4-0 out of 5 stars What a fun machine!
This is a really fun toy. When I use earphones it has great sound. I like how it sounds louder when the drum pads are hit harder. It also has a very large number of programmable sounds. The only problem is that the drum pads are too small. It is definetly worth it's price but is no substitute for a real drum set.

5-0 out of 5 stars I LIKE IT!
Well when i first seen the DD9M i walked away from it because it was so small. When i was looking around the store for another product to check out.Thats when i heard this great awesome stereo drumming sound.I brought one for a practice pad.Don"t let the looks fool you.The DD9M rocks.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great !!!
I was a little disappointed with this product when I first opened the box. It looked cheap. But, after giving it to my daughter, who is 8, for Christmas, she was thrilled. She loves it, and I dont know who has enjoyed it more...her or the adults. It is great for someone just wanting to learn...wouldnt recommend for a serious drummer, but I ...I mean my daughter, loves it!!!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars A Toy - not a Practice Pad.
It's small, there are no foot paddle inputs, there are limitations to the preprogrammed settings, there's no MIDI output. The sounds are fine, but not spectacular. My eight year old cousin thinks it's GREAT; I think it's substandard. Fine for kids or screwing around; lousy for actual music making. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Sounds like a real piano
The good:
Digitized piano sound. Sounds exactly like a real piano.
76 notes allow you to play most classical sheets.
Amazing deal by far if you can't afford a real piano.

The bad:
Speakers too small.
Education suite confusing.
Sensitivity of the keyboard not like a piano at all (of course).
Guitar and all other instruments not very realistic.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good keyboard
This keyboard is a great buy, especially if you're going to practice playing piano. It has a great 'grand piano' sound, and its 76 keys provide a wide enough range for beginners. You can connect a foot pedal to enhance the piano experience. In my personal opinion, other pros of this keyboard are as follows:

(+) Teaching mode is a perfect tool for beginners. It has 4 different teaching and grading modes (left hand/right hand/both hands/rhtym only) (+) A wide range of voice styles (+) A wide range of accompaniments (some of them are piano-only, which I think is a great feature)

If you want to buy a keyboard for *only* practicing playing piano, I would reccommend going for the Yamaha YPR50, which has an excellent piano sound. But if you want a keyboard with loads of features with which you can also practice playing piano scores, PSRGX76 is the way to go...

5-0 out of 5 stars The "Recylicing" Keyboard
This is the BEST KEYBOARD IN THE WORLD!!!!! It is #1. If you want a keyboard. Get this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Learning keyboard!
I wish this had been my first keyboard. My first one had only 4 octaves and it never reached most of the bass clef notes. Therefore, I never learned the base clef. But with this machine, it has plenty of room plus a great learning tool through Yamaha's Education Suite. I love it! The sound is also fantastic and realistic. My only negative comment would be that I must turn up the volume rather high in order to hear the Grand Piano.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great way to learn and have fun
I bought this Yamaha with a hope of renewing and refreshing my piano skills. Having taken lessons as a child, I never quite was able to put the two hands together. The education suite is a fun way to pick up my skills. My husband, who is a true beginner, needs a little more "basic" practice before he's ready for the lessons, though. The piano itself has great sound, and almost more options than I know what to do with (although it's been fun to play around with it). A friend of mine who is a professional musician also said it was a good piano for the price, and he thought he might recommend it as a great portable option to someone else. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A good choice for amusement or ear training
I've never purchased a keyboard before. I never thought I would need one. However, I found myself in the situation of learning vocal music and realizing that while I knew the name of the note, I couldn't always remember the sound of the note.

"A keyboard", my vocal coach suggested.

"A keyboard," I sighed.

I hunted around town and found that the cheapest I could get was 80 or more dollars -- too much for my budget. Then I saw this gem. I figured that if it was too much like a toy, I could send it to my nephews (and really annoy my sister!).

I've tried it and I like it. Read the description for the details of what it has. As for me, this review is what I like and dislike about it.

While it has a three-octave range, by shifting the selected voice to a bass voice, one can get lower notes -- this is good, for basses and baritones who need notes while learning vocal scores. By shifting to a sopranino voice (like the piccolo) one can cover the full soprano range.

The keys are very small -- I find myself hitting strays when running 5 and 8 note scales. The good point to the small keys is that the player must hit the keys precisely in the center to play anything accurately; however, it also means that the player gets used to having the intervals closer than they are on a full sized keyboard.

Yes, there are lots of voices and combinations, but don't expect them to sound identical to the instrument. Remember that this is a $40.00 keyboard, not a several hundred dollar Roland or Yamaha.

It is lightweight and VERY portable; however, spend a wad on batteries -- this thing uses 6 "C" cells. Do yourself a favor and pick up the adapter the same time you buy the keyboard.

The built in speakers sound good for the midrange voices; however, they do not give full sound the lower voices and the higher. If you demand better sound, then jack in additional speakers or a set of headphones.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun for not so serious players
I bought this keyboard for my daughter, but everyone wants to play it because it's so much fun. I particullarly like the 100 instrument settings, and playing along with the preprogrammed songs. It has several features to make keyboard playing easier.

The keyboard isn't well suited for serious music reading though, having only 3 octaves and small keys. Also, it uses up batteries rather quickly. If you use it much at all you'll need the power adapter or rechargeable batteries.

I started keyboard lessons this past summer and this specific keyboard really makes beginners sound great! I am ordering a duplicate for my mother for her upcoming 80th birthday.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great keyboard
Along with the PSR280 I have this one for home i love this one because it has a 3.5 floppy disk drive and because of the music database. I enjoy playing frank sinatra songs and many others. I sit for hours playing this keyboard and listen to the songs i sent to disk through the computer. I take the psr 350 data disk to my aunt's or uncle's house and impress them. The great thing is that you don't have to bring the whole keyboard to someones house, only the disk. I also love all of the expanded voices, great accompanent styles and the sound. Amazon.com Product Description

The Yamaha YPR50 offers all the basics in a full-sized, 76-key electric keyboard. It provides a unique touch sensitivity, so beginners learn finger sensitivity from the outset, as they would on a real piano. Among its many features are 32-note polyphony, a song library, five voices, and 20 accompaniment styles.

Full, 32-note polyphony lets you play complex sustained chords and passages without cutting off the notes. The pianist feature automatically chooses the most appropriate of 20 piano accompaniment styles. Simply hold down one key, or play the full chord, and the YPR50 will accompany in that style, instantly and effortlessly making your performances sound more professional.

Yamaha offers a variety of voices as well. Thanks to sophisticated stereo sampling, the grand piano voice is especially realistic; other voices include piano, harpsichord, organ, and string--each created from digital recordings of actual instruments.

A left-hand accompaniment feature can record and play two hands independently. The left hand records on track one while the right hand records on track two, letting you practice one hand at a time. The YPR50's built-in digital performance memory, with fast-forward, rewind, pause, and play, makes it easy to record practice sessions.

Also featured is a metronome with modifiable time signatures that you can turn on and off for practice purposes. Just for fun, Yamaha provides a built-in song library that consists of 20 popular piano songs and a companion music book for learning and playing along, using provided melody guides.

MIDI in/out jacks let you integrate your electronic piano with a state-of-the-art music production system. If the two speakers and their 3-watt amplifiers get too loud, Yamaha provides a headphone jack so you can create melodies without disturbing others (headphones aren't included).

The YPR50 comes with a keyboard stand, a music stand, and a sustain pedal at an affordable price. You can plug it into the wall with an adapter, or run it with six D-size batteries (not included). ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great value for price!
This keyboard is an excellent product for what my needs and desires are. I am not a professional, just a recreational pianist who recently learned how to tickle the ivories. It is difficult to find an affordable keyboard that offers functions of a real piano or expensive unit. The market dictates that you must either chose a (cheep) or so unit that sounded lousy or a professional Roland/Korg/Yamaha unit that costs (an extravagantamount of money)! This was the perfect compromise. Unlike most inexpensive keyboards, this unit features 3 characteristics that are hard to find: 1) sustain pedal for more realistic playing, 2) pressure sensitive keys to convey mood, etc., & 3) 76 keys! Most keyboards have necessary keys absent from the instrument to play certain pieces. I like the fact that I can play all pieces without having to improvise or jump octaves. The cheap keyboards usually have 60 or so keys. The stand is made of pressboard, but is very solid and sturdy. My only negative (from what I expected) in this instrument is with the sustain pedal. During play, it's lack of grip on the floor causes it to move and turn under your foot. Yamaha sells an upgrade "piano-style" pedal that they say will stay put - so they are aware of the problem with the old pedal. Not a big deal, but a bit annoying.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love it!
I live in an apartment, so a full sized piano was out of question. The size and the volume control made me look into a digital piano. They usually cost more than $1000, so I was quite skeptic about this one. After comparing the specs, the only differences between expensive ones and this model were the number of keys (88 vs 76) and key weight control. So I decided to go for this one.

It comes with wooden stand, sustain pedal, music stand, music books, and adapter - basically everything you need!

The sound is beautiful. No annoying electronic sound I was afraid of. After playing music from past lessons such as Sonatinen, I also discovered that 76 keys are quite sufficient.

After 6 months, I have no complaint.
It's definitely a great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value for Money
For what it costs, the YPR50 is easily top of its class. Touch sensitive keys and a sustain pedal make for as a real a piano experience as possible for the price. The realistic Grand Piano sound and the hardwood stand give it an extra realistic appeal.

Weighted keys would have completed the YPR50. The absence of weighted keys is natural for the price but detracts from the real piano playing experience. For the beginning to intermediate pianist and even for the serious pianist on a tight budget, the YPR50 is a great value for money.

If you're willing to spend a little more though, you should look into a weighted key digital piano such as the Yamaha YPD series.

Draw backs : The sustain pedal is as flimsy as they get. With no weighted anchor, it flips around annoyingly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice! Glad I bought it.
I am very happy with this digital piano. Originally I wanted a regular piano, but even the used pianos listed in the newspaper can get pricey. This product solved my needs. Because of the stand, this instrument is more like a piece of furniture in the room, not some flimsy keyboard. And yet, unlike a piano, this Yamaha Digital Piano is easy to move around if one needs to. The stand is made out of pressed wood, is very sturdy, and does the job nicely. It was simple to put together, all I needed was a phillips screw driver. The wood is black in color. (The Amazon photo can sometimes make it look brown.) The full-size 76 keys on it are wonderful to have and allows one to play any piece of music without limitations. There is a music stand on top of the keyboard for convenience. The sound is rich and pleasant. There are five voices: Grand Piano (sounds wonderful), Electric Piano, Organ, Strings, and Harpsichord. Another great attribute to this instrument is the sustain pedal. It's terrific! No sacrificing from a tradition piano. If you're a student you will have the elements you need to learn appropriately. Though the stated Amazon offer doesn't provide an adapter to plug into the wall (one would have to purchase it separately) instead of using batteries, surprisingly my shipment arrived with a sticker on the box saying, "Bonus adapter included". And sure enough the adapter was included, no additional purchase to make. Amazon's technical details page on this product states the unit is 161 lbs. That's probably a typo. My shipment arrived from UPS rather quickly in a box about 5 ft. long and 3 ft. high with a weight of 46 lbs.... Overall, Yamaha has come up with an exceptional product to allow one to have a piano in their home when a traditional piano is out of the budget. The stand provides the full appreciation of sitting down to a wonderful instrument. I've read someone else's post saying it's not right to learn piano on anything other than a traditional piano. I think differently with this product. This product has all the concerns needed, and the sound wasn't sacrificed. There are also plenty of other features I didn't mention. Yamaha did their homework. It's nice to hear piano being played in the home.

5-0 out of 5 stars As for this Stand, I'm your biggest fan.
I've been needing a new keyboard for some of my random wedding gigs. My pals Ben Wa and Geraldine kept begging me to play at their wedding. I soon understood the nature of the importance they had presented me with. They were having a mock Elvis wedding. Geraldine looked fabu with her Priscilla wig. They even had some very nice plastic champagne glasses that I took home, they work just fine if you wash them. I didn't end up buying the keyboard for that wedding, but I did get it as a suprise gift for myself. I was so suprised, at how much I really liked it. I was so glad I liked. It had a strong stand which really comes in handy for my new age version of "Who Let The Dogs Out/Macarena Medley". The pressure sensitive keys set my fingers ablaze with emotion. It is a superior function that I know will come in handy in preparing for my rendition of "Stan" by Eminem with Sir Elton John. The only thing I would change(and did!) is the sustain pedal. It didn't seem as stationary as I would have liked, so I replaced it with the chrome foot shaped pedal from my 76' Chevy Van. I think this is a nice balance in price and performance. Overall the best feature is a nice "feel". When I come back around from a 360' kick to Gaigi Tah Chop, I have to hit those keys just right. A necessary skill for the piano-man. Amazon.com Review

The PSR-225GMAD has everything a musician new to keyboards would need to get started creating, composing, and/or performing music, without the expense of a professional synthesizer. It's a fantastic keyboard at a phenomenal price.

The PSR-225GMAD boasts a total of 238 voices. The voices are simple to access: press the Voice button, then type in the appropriate voice's number (all of the voices with their numbers are listed in the accompanying manual). For an inexpensive instrument, the quality of these voices is well above average. The PSR-225GMAD is a General MIDI-compatible keyboard, which means 128 of the voices are grouped in a standardized way: if you connect the keyboard to a computer--via the MIDI ports using MIDI cables (sold separately)--the PSR-225GMAD will correctly play General MIDI files (a standard of most MIDI files in educational software and of those available on the Internet).

If you enjoy playing along with built-in drum patterns and bass lines, then you will want to press the Style button. The PSR-225GMAD contains 100 different auto accompaniments from a variety of musical genres. The keyboard can harmonize chords for you, and it can select voices that match well the style you have chosen. You can easily change the tempo or move between an intro, ending, or two preset sections of a song.

There is also a Song function on the PSR-225GMAD, which allows you to play back songs or record your own songs. This is one area where the PSR-225GMAD does not shine. The user can store only a maximum of three songs. Each song can have up to six tracks, but the interface for recording these tracks is cumbersome and counterintuitive.

A user more serious about creating their own songs will probably opt for connecting the keyboard to a computer and using a software-based sequencer. The novice songwriter will most likely become frustrated rather quickly with the PSR-225GMAD's built-in sequencer because of its complexity and limitations.

There are a number of other useful and extremely easy-to-use functions on the PSR-225GMAD, including a metronome, dual- and split-keyboard modes, and sound enhancers such as reverb and chorus. The five-octave, 61-note keyboard and good-quality built-in speakers make the PSR-225GMAD very fun to play.

Overall, the PSR-225GMAD is a quality keyboard for new keyboardists and composers. --Chris Fresolone

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
I purchased this keyboard so I could have an inexpensive way to play the piano now and then. I am amazed at the quality of this keyboard. I am enjoying the great piano sound and touch sensitive keys. I also purchased an inexpensive foot pedal to go with the keyboard. This nicely simulates the sustain pedal on a piano. This keyboard has many useful features that will be fun to explore over time. I think this keyboard is a fantastic value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Top Quality for a small price
I have a Clavinova and a PSR 6700. I play the clavinova at our local hospital and the keyboard at the Senior Center. I ordered the PSR225GMAD as a backup mainly because of its weight and price. I was amazed at the sound quality. I didn't believe it was possible with just two 3 watt speakers. The voices very closely mimic the real instruments and the rythm sections are outstanding. It is easy to set the voice, tempos, and accompaniment. At twelve pounds, I can carry it without the possibility of getting a hernia. It is attractive, has quality sound and it was at at unbelievable low price. My only suggestion is that you increase the number of memory setups. Four is not enough.

A very satisfied customer,

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT MACHINE!
I bought this in October for my 9yr old son for Christmas (I shop early) and I was on vacation with my 2 sons when it arrived at the house. However, I told my husband to check it out (make sure nothing was broken etc) and to wrap it up then hide it. He ended checking it out for about a week! He says it's the most awesome machine! He didn't want to put it away! Hope my 9yr old gets to play it on Christmas day!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great entry level keyboard and great price
This instrument is probably the best buy one can get for way under a grand (no pun intended). It includes some really nice sounds, especially the piano sounds, the organ sounds and the flute sounds.

It has some really nice features and bells and whistles (both literally and figuratively) including very good touch. It is not fully weighted, but is still pretty good.

The only problems I have with it is the weight, which prevents it from being totally portable and the tinny sounding speakers. But this are nit picks because both can be overcome easily enough and what you do get more than offsets the losses.

If you want a keyboard that can do a lot of things, has a lot of great pre-set sounds, is pretty nice looking and can be used either for an inexpensive home piano or as a gigging instrument and with a bench, a stand, and way to record your music as well as being useful as a learning instrument, this is the one. it is fully MIDI ready and has a lot more that I have not yet scratched the surface of. And all for way under a thousand dollars.

I don't think there is anything better for an all-in-one keyboard for this level of expense. A great deal, an excellent instrument. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Dim
When I first bought this it was great. It has plenty of different sounds and features. One thing I didn't like was that after a while, the display screen grows a little dim.Other than that I thought this product was great.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sensational Keyboard! A MUST for the beginner!
I was amazed, no, ASTONSIHED by the enhanced sound that this thing makes! It's almost better than owning your own grand piano at such a low low cost! Although I do not own the keyboard myself, I am constantly using my friends system. I love it so much that I am having it purchased for me for Christmas. I love the idea that you can save your compositions onto a floppy and than convert it to midi on the computer. You can even download midis off the internet and have them play right off the keyboard for an easier learning environment. Download the sheet music, and download the song, there you have it folks! Furthermore, there is a WIDE variety of instrumental selection on this monster. I mean, if you select trumpet, it's a TRUMPET! Unlike the older versions of YAMAHA keyboards where every instrument sounds like a computerized immitation. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE REAL THING FOLKS! No cheap immitations here! You'll be playing for hours! There is so much more that I could compliment this keyboard for, but I would be typing for years! ... For parents reading this review, this is by no means a TOY, it's worth the money and you'll soon see your children or teens blooming into Mozarts. It's really incredible! I can't stress that enough! It is seriously just as good as owning a piano.

What makes this product even more exciting is the many accessories you can purchase for this musical maham. A sustaining foot switch is one of the many.

For a cost like what Amazon offers, five stars does not even satisfy the rating this product should receive.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delighted
I purchased the PSR340 as a Christmas gift for my retired parents. They both have a history with full sized organs and piano's and they simply love the Yamaha keyboard. I was particularly pleased with Amazon.com's ordering process. I was promptly notified via email of the exact status of my order and received it right on schedule.

Yes, I was rather disappointed that Yamaha chose not to include the power supply but Amazon.com DOES in fact sell it.

Yamaha PA6 Power Adapter for Electronic Keyboards and Drums

4-0 out of 5 stars no power supply
This is a fine keyboard. Unfortunately, Yamaha does not include the power supply, and considers it 'optional' ! So, be aware that you will have to wait up to 30 days for a backordered 10 v power supply, or buy a pallet of D batteries. Amazon does not appear to carry the power supply.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Keyboard!
This Yamaha keyboard does everything! I can hook it up to my computer to write music. The disk drive makes it easy to record music and it acts almost like a player piano. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bang for your Buck
I wanted to learn basic keyboard/piano-type keyboard. So for a long time I was looking for a good musical keyboard. When I saw this DJXII under 100 bucks I ordered it immediately.

This has got hundreds of bells and whistles with the keyboard I was looking for. I like it and I am learning keyboard right now.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Fun
I have had one of these beat boxes for over a year and enjoy it. It's fairly easy to use and fun to perform on. It's not a "serious" instrument but it has capabilities that only a few years ago were costing much much more. The keyboard function is fairly limited and has no performance nuance like touch sensitivity, but it works in a pinch. It also has automated mixing and processing capabilities that took a lot of effort and time to execute a few years ago. It definitely allows non musicians (or non-keyboardists) to jam and create club music. Some of the grooves are very good, but most are pop and sure to sound dorky within a few years - but then again - retro gear will have its own appeal several years hence. Likewise, the effects are what are currently "in" in dance production. I like the ease with which effects can be sync-ed to the beat.

As to use by pros - it might be a good addition to a DJ to spice up a mix. I am a guitarist, and I have used this unit as a drum machine with a small combo and it sounds fine through a PA. It's a fun jam box, and the price is right.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Much Fun
Look, I'm an accomplished musician and while this thing is fun, it's not something i'd use in the studio. But i sure as heck would use while DJing to fill in between songs. If you are shopping for a keyboard to learn how to play honkey dorey songs, dont get this one. If you are seriously into Hip-hop, techno, and house, this is one cool tool to use!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for MIDI users
The DJX-1 (PSRD1-DJX) was a great keyboard. I suggest you look for one of those on ebay or something. In many ways the DJX-2 is a stripped down version of the original. The sounds are fine and you can record your own beats and samples etc, but if you want to use it in a MIDI setup, forget it. Its "MIDI out" capability is only for saving your samples to a computer --- you cannot use the DJX-2 to output note information to an external sequencer (or computer or other keyboard...). Also, the DJX-2 does not include the industry standard set of 128 general MIDI (GM) voices. And who wants to look at alternating gray and white octaves???

5-0 out of 5 stars Great

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Stand, but a bit Short
Just a note to all interested in this stand: as of now, Amazon's technical details invert the width and height of the stand. It is actually 25.25" tall and 30 & 3/8" wide. I'm fairly tall. By losing 5 inches in the advertised height of the stand, my knees barely squeek under with my bench adjusted all the way down. The stand itself is sturdy, looks great, and is probably fine for those under 6". Anyone taller might want to consider something a tad taller. And Amazon: fix those specs, please.
