Amazon.com Product Description

What classier cable to use when hooking your iPod up with your home stereo than Monster Cable's custom iCable interconnect? Your iPod is capable of delivering audiophile-quality sound, and the iCable uses Monster Cable's latest technologies to deliver a connection that maximizes the transmission quality of your digital music while being rugged enough for portable use. Just plug the minijack connector into your iPod's headphone jack and connect the RCA jacks into any pair of left/right analog inputs and you're ready to rock. It even comes with a handy, road-ready carrying pouch.

The iCable's straight-cut turbine RCA and split-tip pins provide excellent contact pressure at the component end, while its 24k gold contacts ensure high signal integrity at both ends. Further, the interconnect's twisted-pair XLN technology offers superior noise rejection--important when connecting your iPod in an environment that's high in radio-frequency or electromagnetic interference. 5-0 out of 5 stars The shielding makes a difference
I am using this cable between my Delphi XM Radio home adapter and a high end stereo system. The out-of-the box cable that came with the adapter was the usual cheap, unshielded thin cable that comes with most electronics today. This cable caused a loud hum in my system. The shielded Monster cable removed the hum completely and worked very well with my high end system. Having a high end system, I know that cables can also make an audible difference in sound quality; however they only make a difference if the system is revealing enough to let these nuances flow all the way to the speakers. Typically such systems cost several thousand dollars. Let your ears be the judge.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish Cable Length Ten (10) Feet NOT a mere seven (7) Feet
This is for owners' of Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 Speakers, including the New Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 Speakers.
I assume of course you already own the Klipsch DD-5.1 Digital Decoder PreAmplifier for these speakers.
The Price has dropped from $170.00 for the Klipsch DD-5.1 Digital Decoder PreAmplifier,
to a much lower price of $100.00 for the Klipsch DD-5.1 Digital Decoder PreAmplifier,
as of the date December 13, 2003.
Purchase three (3) of the Monster Cable iCable for iPod, for each set of the Klipsch Speakers and the matching Klipsch DD-5.1 Digital Decoder PreAmplifier.
Your ears will not have to contend with,
the three (3) poor quality Klipsch Y-Adapters which are supplied with your Klipsch DD-5.1 Digital Decoder PreAmplifier,
and the three (3) poor quality Klipsch cables which are supplied with your Klipsch ProMedia Speakers.
A total of six (6), *** POOR *** Klipsch Cables.
The three cables go / route from the back of the Klipsch ProMedia Powered Subwoofer to the back of the Klipsch DD-5.1 Digital Decoder PreAmplifier.
The Monster Cable iCable for iPod's only limitation is the short seven (7) foot length.
You must place the Klipsch ProMedia Powered Subwoofer within seven (7) feet of the Klipsch DD-5.1 Digital Decoder PreAmplifier.
Sure the cost is a very expensive $90.00 for three of these Monster Cable iCable for iPod,
but once purchased and hooked up,
you know the sound signal is being transmitted via a quality single cable,
rather than having the sound signal being transmitted via a cheap cable with an additional cheap Y-adapter added / joined.
!!! NO MORE two seperate cheap cables, &
!!! NO MORE two seperate cheap cables which MAY disconnect from each other.
One single cable is always better than two,
PLUS
QUALITY is what you are paying for.
NOTE: Monster Cable iCable for iPod has a 1/8" Mini Jack on one end which is the correct size required for use by the Klipsch ProMedia 5.1 speakers and Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 speakers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't pay for style over substance!
Monster makes good cables and often has products other people don't have, but this isn't the case here. This is a very common cable available in your choice of lengths from stereo and electronic stores. I have an iPod and a Bose home theater system and get perfect sound from the 6-foot, $6 version from Radio Shack. All you need is a stereo mini-plug on one end (plugs into the top of the iPod) and RCA red and white stereo jacks on the other (plug into the "input" jacks on your stereo).

1-0 out of 5 stars Common sense
Ok guys, personal disclosure: I'm an audio engineer and a classical musician. My life revolves around fussing over the most minute details of music, whether listening to it or making it. These cables are STUPID. When I was a kid, I remember buying these from the loser sales-people at Hi-Fi Buys. It's the same old line, "You spend how much on your system, and you're going to waste it all with $5 Radio Shack cables?" It's BS! Here's the line profesional musicians and engineers fall back on, "If it sounds good, it is good."

Technical note: if you really wanted high quality cables, you'd have to use 3-pin balanced cables operating at +4dbu. All consumer equipment is 2-pin, unbalanced and operates at -10. So you can buy gold cables (hell, why not platinum, or - DIAMOND, yes DIAMOND cables!), dip them in expensive chocolate, and do a rain dance and it's going to sound just the same.

2-0 out of 5 stars it really depends on what sort of music you listen to
There's a schism here between people who think the cable is worth the extra money for the sound fidelity it affords, and those who feel ripped off because they can get basically the same thing at Radioshack for $5.

To be honest, it all depends on what sort of music you listen to. I love the Sex Pistols, Nirvana, Spoon, Joy Division, Pixies, Dead Kennedys. And guess what? High fidelity cables aren't going to make a 128 kbps MP3 of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" sound any prettier.

However, if the bulk of your iPod collection is classical or vocal music ripped as larger 192 plus files, then these cables DO make a difference. If you like showtunes, Bette Midler, Clay Aiken, or Andrea Botticelli, sure, I think you'll hear a difference. But who cares? You're an @$%hole anyway. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Does not support HDTV!!!!
I bought this unit to protect my new 51" HDTV and as soon as I plugged the coax video RG-6 cable into the unit to protect my link from the cable provider to the set-top box I lost 1/2 of my HD channels. I called Monster tech support and was told that the unit did not pass all the high frequency signals needed for HDTV. He did say they they would ship me out a Monster HT200 which would pass the HD signals. But it never arrived. After waiting two weeks I email their tech support and got a call where Eric V said he would mail me out a HT200. In all I would stay away from this product if you are trying to protect your HDTV until they modify the product.

2-0 out of 5 stars Extremely poor execution
I bought this cable because I've long been a fan of Monster's products. My first thought on opening the package was that the cable itself is beautiful. Then I began to pay more attention to things.
The audio and video segments are side by side which caused some dismay because I wanted to run sound through my receiver. If you pay another 40 and get the proprietary optical cable, you can wire your sound through a receiver but this would mean spending 100 on cables for your Xbox. I have no doubt that there is an improvement but I have doubts as to how detectable it will be. The package does say a separate optical cable is necessary but in my purchasing haste, I failed to notice this.

I prefered to just get the standard HD kit from Microsoft for 17.99 and then hook up my own component cables and optical cable.

I feel that a $60 cable for a game system should include an optical cable for sound. Requiring the purchase of a proprietary optical cable instead of allowing any optical cable to connect is another slap in the consumer's face.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you can afford it...Buy it!!
No need for a lengthy technical review here, otherwise this would sound too repetetive.

I tried:
*InterActs S-Video/AV cables and found them to be just basic cables. The main plug to the XBOX didn't even fit snug. I returned them immediately.

*Microsofts High Definition AV Pack again just basic cables. No dramatic change whatsoever in video quality. Too many extra hook-ups that can cause video noise.
I didn't return them because my brother bought them :) It sucks to be him right now.

I finally decided to go with my original gut instincts, I didn't want to buy the Monster cables because of the high price, I also thought I could get just as good a picture quality with the less expensive versions.
Boy was I mistaken when I hooked them up!! Like night and day!! Solid connections!! Superior construction!!

Bottom line? If you are serious about console gaming as I have become, this is a direct connection into your XBOX, the only way to exploit your XBOX and HDTV's video capabilities.(Can't wait for true 1080i games to come out)

To take advantage of the Digital audio side you would need to also purchase the Monster Game LightWave 100X. It plugs into the jack of the Monster Cable XGL400X and into your Dolby Digital Audio Reciever.

You actually get what you pay for and Monster Game cables should be your final stop in the quest for the best cable as they are the legendary leader in Audio/Video and Gaming cables.

***Monster Game cables is the gaming side of Monster Cable***

Hope this non techie laymans review helped.

Overpriced Pseudo-Science Marketing
Where I work, we once had a discussion about Monster cables and if they really do provide a better signal than a decent less-expensive cable.

So, we injected a range on freqencies through the Monster and looked at it on both an O-scope and a spectrum analyzer. We then did the same for a cable of the same type, but not a so-called Monster.

The Monster had *slightly* less attenuation, however the attenuation was not constant and the fluctuating attenuation introduced fluctuating harmonics. The differences between the Monster and the other cable, however, were along the same lines that one would expect to see from two similiar cables from different manufacturers.

My conclusion is that Monster cables simply are not worth the price. As for the construction itself, I don't find it very durable. It gives the appearance of durability, but I was not impressed with how the connectors were applied. For as much as these things cost, there should be better workmanship.

Professional cables can be had for half the cost of Monster cables. Monster cables are high-end low-end cables, where the high-end aspect is mainly in price. Its no suprise that one wouldn't find Monster cables being used in any professional sound studio.

I believe the "better picture aspect" of Monster video cables to be attributed mainly to psychological factors.

My advice would be to get the Microsoft HD AV Pack (which is what I'm using myself) for $20 and use the $40 you'll save on a game.

2-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced
I have a friend that uses these cables with his X-Box and HDTV. Being curious as to if they provide any improvement, I took my MS HD cables over to his house and we compared them with his Monster. We saw very little difference with the two sets.

5-0 out of 5 stars Monster Cable VS Microsoft HD Pack
I bought this cable after reading a few reviews about how good it was and others about how expensive and so on, well let me tell you the straight truth, I have a 27 inch Zenith HDTV hook up to my XBOX and had the Microsoft High Defenition Pack (component HDTV pack) hook up to it, and the graphics were superb, then I just took a chance and upgraded to this monster cable, boom....I thought I had the best picture but the monster cable gave it about 3+ points to the picture, (picture quality Microsoft HD Pack 10/10, Monster Cable 13/10) that's how I see it, the graphics look even cleaner, the colors look richer, and the darkness is gone (which was a problem with the HD Pack) well worth the 39.99 price, I guess there's a reason why it cost more! Great Item!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent FM Transmitter
Before I write my review, I want to say that this is my first review here on Amazon.com. Well I guess I must be way out of the loop here as I just discovered this type of a device, a way of connecting audio devices to your car without the need for the conventional cassette car adapter. I've been looking at these things for a few days now and decided that I was going to go with the Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter from Best Buy.

I go there only to find they didn't have any, so I decided I'd get this one instead, which surprisingly, (at least not at the time of this review), wasn't listed on their web site, So before I left I bought along my Sony Walkman with a few tapes I love listening to so that I could test this thing out when I got it.

As the instructions say, insert the RadioPlay in to your cigarette lighter, connect the mini headphone jack in to your portable device, select the FM station you want the sound to come through, select the same FM channel on your RadioPlay and your good to go. Living here in Maine, USA there are no stations on 88.1, (I checked before I bought this and you should too).

There is an 88.3 which is clear as a bell but there is nothing coming in on 88.1, so I chose this as my default station, (I didn't test the others). Turning the sound all the way up on my Walkman I was able to hear it coming through the speakers, and boy is it cool! Using my CD player I was able to adjust the bass, treble and volume accordingly to get the best sound, and it's very good.

Some people complain you hear static noise coming from the speakers, while this is true, (it doesn't block this), it plays over the top of it and unless your playing a ballad or listening to speech, this won't be a problem, the static noise was quiet anyway, so for me it wasn't a big deal.

The sound highly depends on your car stereo setup, the clarity of the recording and I'm sure your audio device would have something to do with it. I do have an MP3 player but I didn't test this, I would probably say that if your MP3s are at 320Kbps, 44Kz Stereo, you could probably get it sounding at 128Kbps with a little less clarity. If you could get CD sound or close to it, you'll just hear a bit of static in the background, (particially with songs that don't have many instruments or as I said ealier, ballads / speech).

On the packaging, it doesn't state what the range is, so I'm not sure if for example, the person driving behind you could pick it up, they might be able to, but it probably wouldn't be all that clear, no big deal. Overall, this thing rocks, I can't wait to test this out with some other tapes and my MP3 player, absolutely well worth it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Expensive but WORKS!
The Home Experience
I have a Sony Grand WEGA KF42WE610 42" using Comcast Cable reception w/o the box (analog reception). I wanted to give a bare bone truth if the HTS5000 is any good or not. After spending 1hr 30minutes properly installing my plugs, making sure my wall socket had 3 prongs (not use a 3 prong to 2 prong cheat which will void your warranty, the HTS5000 will not register as being grounded) and installing some copper wire to grounding the HTS 5000 itself (water pipe, iron/steel fixture tucked behind a wall or heater vent will do nicely) I was finally able to plug the HTS 5000, turn on the Sony STR-DE885 receiver w/ 150 watt preamp sub. I immediately noticed a better quality of sound and I was finally able to maintain its volume (as it would decrease and I would have to turn it up even more). It is the same sound quality as mentioned earlier with the Best Buy receiver. The picture is less pixilated and flesh tones are better (although nothing like Direct TV). Cartoon network has vivid, sharp colors (the colors orange and yellow, blue and purple, etc are distinguished. #1 noticeable difference pronounced even as I write this review is the TV's sound quality! It is as good as my STR-885 Sony Receiver! The sound volume remains the same and the bass is much richer then before. The voices are crisp, clear and audible. In the past I accepted the fact that my TV speakers were no good (reason for buying the STR-885) until today! Another positive trait is viewing Channel 2 via cable. In my area channel 2 is the worst channel, producing a series of thin horizontal to diagonal lines. The lines are very noticeable and distracting giving a 3d effect as you attempt to watch a program only having a 75% viewable screen. After installing the HTS 5000, channel 2 is now 95% viewable. You now have to look real hard to find them from 5' away! This is 2nd biggest improvement as I already have a 4 port, Electroline Drop Amp with single shielded RG-6 cable wire. The coax cable is connected to the HTS 5000 and a Monster top grade coax cable from the HTS 5000 to the TV.

SIDE NOTE
Although double shielded RG-6 coax cable would do better most that I have found do not have a solid copper core. As I was told that the signal travels around the circumference not inside. Regardless if you have solid copper core or not It is extremely important to check your cable connections to make sure the exposed copper wire does not have any marks or nicks around the circumference! If any are found there is a 100% chance you are not receiving the best picture possible. It is a MUST to cut the wire just below the connection, then buy $10-$18 "plastic" 2-Blade rotary coaxial cable stripper to properly strip it, place a coax connector then screw it back on your TV (This is intended for coax cable installed by your cable company. Monster coax cable and such are not part of this side note).

The Home Experience Voltage
When I first turn plugged this unit in Voltage was at 125V and did drop to about 115 volts using appliances in the kitchen. I did notice voltage as high as 125 volts until I turn the TV on then it would drop to 120 volts. I also have my computer, DSL and 18" monitor hooked up to the HTS 5000 and it remains 120 volts with the TV on! I did not notice anything better with the computer DSL or monitor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Does It REALLY REALLY matter!
I gave it 5 stars because I don't own it an wanted to be fair, but I do own cabletogo 2m dvi cable and it's a spectacular picture I have on my toshiba 30hf83 30" hdtv which is slightly better than the component I had hooked up earlier. My point is the cabletogo I believe is under $15dls and has a higher data transmission rate which I believe is above 9mbps dual link and the monster above 5mbps,so it's just something to think about, why waste $99dls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Cable but I cannot use it now!!
I have a fairly new HDTV system I bought back in January. I have a JVC 56" rear projection HDTV and am getting my HDTV source from Insight Cable through a Motorola HDTV receiver. I experimented with component video connections when I first bought the TV but later tried the Monster Cable DVI400. Wow what a difference! DVI is the ONLY way to hook up HDTV in my opinion. The colors are brighter and pictures are sharper. Like all Monster Cable products this is made of very high quality materials and it looks nice too. I cannot believe some of the notes I have seen on the internet from people that feel the component video connection is better. The quality of the DVI connection is so superior that my cable company has decided to turn off the DVI output on my cable box. They claim the quality is so good that pirates could make copies of movies through the connection! They claim that this is a new FCC law even!

2-0 out of 5 stars does it really matter?
it is a cable for transferring digital signal... in the digital world, the smallest bit of information is either 0 or 1. in terms of electricity, it is like, either 0 volt or 5 volt. So unless the cable is so lousy that the device cannot tell 0 volt from 5 volt, in which case a gold or platinum plated digital cable is not going to do any good. it either works or doesn't work. there is no "in between".

this is similar to DTV or HDTV -- either you get the picture or you don't. If you do, it is going to be prestine. If you don't, then there is no picture at all. Note that in this case, the analog (non-digital) portion of equipment still makes a difference, such as the antenna or the speaker cable that is non-digital.

so a [$$$$$] DVI cable shouldn't make any difference than a [$$] one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Diminishing returns?
I bought this MonsterCable DVI cable to connect my DVD player to my new HD TV. I was certainly impressed with the image quality and the sturdiness of the cable, though honestly I found the connector pins a bit finicky.
Soon my HD system grew and I needed a way to better utilize the Sony TV's single DVI input, so I bought a very nice Geffen 4 port remote controlled DVI switch. It came packaged with 4 rather generic 6' DVI cables, which I used to connect the components to the switch, saving the MonsterCable for the switch's output to the TV.
The result was great in all cases. That's when the scientist in me took over. I started swapping cables like mad, and asking any poor soul who happened to be around to identify the best picture. The result? No one, myself included, could discern the least little difference in image quality from cable to cable.
Being that the generic DVI cable is one fourth (!) the price of the brand name, obvious questions about diminishing returns are raised. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Monster Cable's Home Theater PowerCenter HTS800 offers a multitude of inputs and a wealth of Monster technologies to protect your gear and ensure clean, reliable power. The PowerCenter features a Monster Clean Power Stage 1 v2.0 filter to deliver noise-free power to your components, an eight-foot AC power cable with a flexible, FlatProfile right-angle plug using a maximum-conductivity 24k gold contact, and a total of eight labeled and color-coded outlets (with matching cord labels for easy hookup).

Three of the unit's eight outlets are conveniently spaced for use with AC adapter transformers, and the power strip provides audible and visual indicators for damage, protection, and ground status monitoring. Its 1,850-Joule rating provides a high level of surge absorption.

Harmful power surges and voltage spikes can travel up the AC power line and damage connected equipment. Lightning, automatic garage doors, power tools, refrigerators, and fluorescent lights all cause power surges and voltage spikes that affect phone lines and coaxial cables. Monster's SurgeGuard detects harmful power surges and voltage spikes before they reach components.

The HTS800 features special surge protection for coaxial video cables used for satellite and cable TV connections. Other surge protectors' coaxial surge protection can result in as much as 20 to 30 dB of signal loss, detracting from video performance. Monster's ultra-low loss RF circuitry provides virtually no signal loss to maintain peak performance.

"Polluted" AC power can degrade the performance you expect from your home-theater components. Electrical power tools, air conditioners, cellular phones, and microwave ovens all generate electromagnetic interference and radio frequency noise which pollutes the AC power and degrades audio and video performance. Monster's Clean Power Circuitry filters out power pollution for more natural sound and better TV picture.

Designed by the renowned AC power expert Richard March, Monster's Clean Power Circuitry uses special filters to reduce electronic noise on your AC power line and ensure the best possible sound and picture from your components. You'll see a more vivid picture and hear more natural sound with increased dynamic range and less noise, especially if your AC power is severely polluted. You'll get back the performance you never knew you lost.

Monster's FlatProfile plug lets you push your furniture flush against the wall. And, with color-coded outlets and cord labels, you can avoid unplugging your VCR by mistake, causing it reset its clock. Finally, the PowerCenter comes with a generous eight-foot Monster power cord, which is the optimum length to reach most electrical outlets.

The strip is covered by a $150,000 connected-equipment warranty as well as Monster's lifetime PowerCenter product warranty.

4-0 out of 5 stars Budget audiophile tweak
I'm an audio guy first, so I can tell you first hand, yes, this has improved the imaging and dynamics of my system. For video applications, colors are more vivid, pictures sharper, and even cable TV looks better.

This is [money] well spent. Give it a week to break in, and you'll really start to notice how much you're enjoying music and watching movies, with this hooked into yer system.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do I actually notice a difference? No. But...
...at least somebody is catering to this market. There are so many products out there (cables, power, etc.) that are so obviously designed to make money by giving you the cheapest possible components. I purchase my Monster products with delight because at least they APPEAR to care about quality. I have never actually compared this power strip to another by watching the same video feed and cannot say for sure that it does what it says with regard to filtering AC pollution. BUT, I do know that AC pollution exists and sometimes my mobile video equipment will pick up radio signals and corrupt microphone recordings. This power strip does completely eliminate RF (radio frequency) interference, and that alone made it worth the purchase for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Monster Cable MP HTS800 HP Surge Protector
I have a 36 inch Sony Wega TV, Pioneer DVC302D DVD player, SONY VCR and a code less phone on the Monster Cable MP HTS800 HP Surge Protector. Observed a slight improvement in picture quality after installing the HTS800.

Really liked the color-coded AC outlets with matching labels. Also the extra space between power outlets so that power adapters for telephone etc can be connected easily.

I recommend this product for your home theater.

5-0 out of 5 stars These do not work with some Gamelink 200 X
Don't buy these for the Gamelink 200 X, chances are that it won't work like it should.

I've had my Gamelink 200 X cables for around 2 years. I happen to buy a 5.1 system, so I decided to buy the Lightwave 100 X toslink cable from Monster Cable.

When I set everthing up and turned on my XBOX, I went to the audio settings only to find out that my Gamlink 200 X and Lightwave 100 X didn't unlock the Dolby Digital/DTS menu. I still only saw the "Mono, Stereo, Dolby Surrond" menu. Therefore, it only transmites the signal as PCM Stereo, and not Dolby Digital or DTS.

I contacted Timothy Pryde from Monster Cable to see if he could send me a replacement 200 X cable. He did, and that cable didn't work either. So I contacted him again, and he sent me another 200 X cable, that one didn't work either to my surprise.

After trying the second he sent, I just gave up, and asked him if he could just send me a Monster Video cable, so I could just buy Microsoft's Advanced AV pack. He said that was just fine.

Right now I'm waiting for a UPS slip to be e-mailed to me so I can send back the two cables he sent me. And when he recieves the cables, he said he will send me the Monster video cable.

He was really helpful, and all in all, I'm very happy with the outcome; he let me keep my Gamelink 200 X incase I need to use my XBOX with a TV set/system that doesn't have an optical input. And he said he was going to thurougly test the Gamelink 200 X cables to see what's the problem. He said he wasn't aware of this problem, and mentioned it as being "weird".

I gave the Lightwave 100 X 5 stars because it is a solid cable that works when used without the Gamelink 200 X.

Hopefully Monster Cable will find the problem and ship out newly modeled Gamelink 200 X cables.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Amazing!
I bought this cable before reading all the reviews. Once I read them I became nervous that I was going to have many problems with it. What I found out when I got it is that most of the people who gave it bad reviews either didn't have an understanding of how it is supposed to be used, or didn't install it correctly. Maybe I'm wrong and there really was a bad batch of cables going around but here is some information that will help you avoid any problems with it.

*Take off the clear plastic caps on both ends (If you don't you won't be able to get 5.1 surround).
*Make sure everything is securly fastened.
*Turn Dolby Digital and DTS on in the audio options menu of the Xbox.
*When your Xbox is on with no game in it, it dosen't put out 5.1 even with the cable. So if you turn on your xbox once you've hooked the cable up and your reciver says its only going through 2 channels, don't panic, its supposed to do that.
*Most importantly many xbox games don't support dolby digital (5.1). Infact most don't, and it is impossible to get 5.1 surround out of a game that dosen't support it. So check the back of the game where its says the number of players and xbox live info. If a green box says "In Game Dolby Digital" you will get 5.1 surround with this cable. If not, you will only get 2 channels and a sub. So check the game first.
*May not be vital, but unplug your RCA audio from your tv or your reciver before you hook this up.

I hope this information helps. Don't let the few bad reviews scare you from buying this. If used correctly it will give you amazing sound. It is truly worth the money.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
I am extremely happy with the image and sound quality of this product once I got things working, but beware, some of these cables are faulty.

I purchased a new Monster Cable XGL400 and XGL-LW100 mid-December 2003 with a new Xbox and was surprised to find that the optical cable was not transmitting an audio signal when connected. I exchanged the cables for a new set and now everything works. I didn't change anything else, just plugged the new cable in and presto.

It's discouraging that a company like Monster Cable would ship a product that had not been tested. Unfortunately, they are the only show in town so be careful and return the cables if you run into any problems. Don't spend the hours trying to trouble-shoot bad cables as I did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Can't be avoided with a 3.5mm to TOSLINK cable
It was suggested that the Monster XBOX video cables would accept a 3.5mm optical plug; this would be a great workaround as adapters to TOSLINK are significantly less expensive. Alas, the proprietary connector on the Monster cables is too small for even a 3.5mm plug and this product is the only way to pair a Monster video connection upgrade with a digital audio connection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cable does work for DTS and Dolby D! Here's how!
Ok....I bought this cable and at first thought it was broken because of some of the reviews I have read here. Alas, I did more research and learned how to correctly hook it up and change my settings in the dashboard and on the dvd you are using. To transmit the signal to your receiver, read this site information ...This is very helpful during hookup. So I got Dolby D to work and was having trouble getting DTS to work. Then I read the review on here saying that DTS was not supported....totally untrue...just enable it in the dashboard. Then be sure to go to the dvd menu and click on LANGUAGES. Here you can select the audio...you want to select either DOlby d 5.1 or DTS 5.1 .....or whatever selection you are looking for. I hope this review saves people a lot of frusturation! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A definite buy!
I do have to admit that being a smart shopper I was hesitant to shell out so much money for "just a cable". But upon the advise of a coworker who said "now that you have a big screen TV you HAVE TO GET A COMPONENT VIDEO CABLE". And right he was. I definitely notice a difference in picture color (not necessiarly in quality but the colors are cleaner and more true to life) when playing DVD movies. I would definitely advise investing in a good cable!

5-0 out of 5 stars top of the line product
It may sound somewhat surprising, at first glance, that a short piece of cable between your TV and DVD player can make a noticeable difference in the picture quality, but once you compare a cheap cable with a good one, you'll see that there is a difference! My DVD player came with a very cheap-looking cable with three RCA connectors on each side, and I used this cable to hook up the DVD player to the component (RGB) input of my TV before doing anything else. I dismissed this cable immediately as the picture was much noisier than I expected. A $15 S-Video cable performed better. However, I had to adjust the settings in video equalizer of my DVD player to increase color saturation, and also had to decrease sharpness of the picture to make noise unnoticeable. Finally, I bought the Monster cable (don't tell my wife about it!). This cable resulted in a perfectly sharp and clean picture without any adjustments in the CD player. Due to double-shielding of this cable, there was no sign of the noise that I saw with the S-Video cable either.

I do not know if there is a noticeable difference between this cable and a less sophisticated one that may cost half of its price. I guess, everything depends on the kind of TV and DVD player you are using. But I can say for sure that my experience convinced me that there is a tremendous difference between this high-end cable and those from the very low end.

The last thing: I do not think that it makes any sense to use such an expensive cable for a connection other than component video (Y + two color difference channels), also called "color stream" by Toshiba. If you do not have a component video input, use either S-video, or composite video (Video+2 audio connector). In the latter case (or if you need a cable to connect your VCR) a cheaper cable would do. This one is worth the money only if you do not want to settle for anything less than perfect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Quality just Way Overpriced!!
These and all other brand cables from MC are all overpriced including these. I have a 20" JVC I'Art television and I have my DVD connected through component. I have used Monster Cable component cables and they put out pretty much the exact same picture as my newer PHILIPS brand component cables that I only had to pay about [$$$] or so for. The PHILIPS are also shielded and gold plated and all that good stuff. So buy these MC component cables if you dont care about price, but otherwise buy PHILIPS brand that are way cheaper and put out the same quality picture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Cable at Good Price
Recently bought a Analog Big Screen TV. Switched from S-Video to Component cables. There is a big difference. The picture looks more film like with Component cables. Do not hesitate to upgrade. Stay away from cheap Wally World brands. You get what you pay for. The S-Video cable I used was Monster Cable M1000 sv.

5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome to the world of COMPONENT VIDEO!!!!!!!
ATTENTION: It is important to understand you must have a COMPONENT VIDEO ready TV and DVD player for this amazing Monster Cable to work.
The MV3CV-2M Monster Video 3 High-Resolution Component Video Cable 2 Meters in length is the BEST off the shelf product available. This gas filled double sheilded cable with duraflex jacket eliminates those ghost and brings the sharpest, most colorful and brightest picture possible to your screen A great value and a much needed cable for your COMPONENT VIDEO Home Theatre System.
Why COMPONENT VIDEO??? In a nutshell:
1). COMPONENT VIDEO is a three wire cable. (Y) - Luminance (Brightness), (Pb) Crominance (Color - Blue) and (Pr) Crominance (Color - Red).
2.) Provides a Cable with Digital (PROGRESSIVE SCAN) and Analog (INTERLACED) capability.

By separating you Blue and Red Colors this provides a pure signal to the TV where it is combined through comb filters for the sharpest picture presentation.

5-0 out of 5 stars 2 GHz Really was an improvement
I have 4 televisions connected to one cable inlet. I had been using an older Gemini 3 way splitter rated 5-900 MHz which was put on the line when I moved in about 15 years ago. I switched over to this splitter because I am getting ready for a cable modem internet connection and wanted to be sure I had the most up to date stuff on the line. I was surprised to find that the reception on all 4 of my televisions has improved and since I have one more place in the line that this cable splits into two, I ran right out and bought a two way splitter by the same company for that line. I don't believe in spending extra $$ for something that I don't have to but this really was an improvement. ... Read more
