3-0 out of 5 stars Minor problems affect its usefulness.
Overall, the hardware and software both perform adequately, but I ran into some minor problems that affect the usefulness of this device. First, it drains batteries in a few days, whether you're using it or not, and when the batteries go dead, you lose any pictures or sounds left in memory. That means you have to download the pictures and sounds right away, unless you want to risk losing them. That's inconvenient. Switching resolution modes or using the device as a webcam forces you to clear the memory. That's also inconvenient. The camera requires a lot of light. It won't even try to take a picture if there isn't enough light. It just gives you a low beep. This affects its usefulness as a webcam, unless you have a lot of bright lights around your computer. Finally, the built-in speaker isn't very loud, so you have to hold it up to your ear to review what you've recorded.

Like they say, you get what you pay for, but this device still does a lot for the money. You can easily take pictures, record sounds, and even make short video clips reminiscent of old silent movies. You'll just have to learn to live with the quirks to do it. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not XP certified, no tech support
This is a nice little camera with tons of problems on installing if your OS is XP professional. Try to find solutions at their web site is a waste of time as the FAQ sections consists of mere three entries, none related to the webcam.
Finally, once that you are upgrading or trying to upgrade the drivers, here comes a warning: "IT IS RECOMMENDED NOT TO INSTALL THE CAMERA BEFORE INSTALLING THE DRIVERS."
I am not impressed with the technical support from this company

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Time and Money
My husband purchased this webcam 2 weeks ago so that faraway relatives could see our 3 year old in action. In these past 2 weeks we have had to return it 2x and now we'll be returning it for our 3rd time.

Camera #1 - as we were installing the webcam and reading the manual, we realized that we were missing a key component - the audio connector. What good is a webcam with a built-in microphone if you can't connect the microphone?? Image quality was fine, though - we weren't expecting it to be crystal clear, given the cost of it, but it was decent. I wrote to Micro Innovations' support and was told to bring it back to the store to exchange it for...

Camera #2 - this one had the audio connector. Great! Not. The image quality was so poor and when we fiddled with the settings, it just got worse. In other words, this webcam was defective! So, back to a different store location in a different area of the state for...

Camera #3 - we, in our rush, forgot to check it out before we left the store with it. We were also thinking that there was no way a 3rd such camera would be defective. Got home only to find that it was missing the audio connector! Image quality is similar to what it was in Camera #1. I wrote to the support department again and this time I was told that the newer versions (what newer version? there was nothing in the box or manual that indicated it was a "newer version" and the manual still talked about hooking up an "audio connector") didn't have audio connectors so it was okay. Okay! That means the first one we had was okay too! Yay! What a waste of time! And not only that, the sound quality is horrible - there's this incessant beeping noise in the background no matter how far away from the speakers we put it, though the cord only goes so far. Don't know if we have it hooked up right (though how much room for error is there when all you have to do is plug it into the USB port?) or if this is yet another defective camera.

If only we could get rid of that incessant beeping in the background - we've tried troubleshooting and even called the support dept. at Micro Innovations to help and the support guy was unable to figure out what was going on, this would be a decent webcam, initial problems aside. The software included is fine for our needs, as is the video quality.

3-0 out of 5 stars What you pay for.
I bought this webcam at Staples for 30 dollars with a 10 dollar rebate. It's more or less pretty good in the right light and isn't terrible, but it isn't awesome either. It's basically what you pay for.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not windows XP compatible, watch it!
We received this webcam as a present, we had to return it since it was not compatible with our computer and ended up paying for shipping the reimbursement!

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great
Focus ring works fine, color adjustments can be automatic depending on light source chosen, or manual settings for brightness, contrast, hue, etc. I found the auto-settings for indoor lighting and auto-settings for outdoor lighting worked fine. Have used it for live video, video capture, Yahoo-camera, and with other software. No problems, good value for money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Keyboard
I was originally looking for a simple cheap keyboard. But then noticed that this USB keyboard cost just a little more then a generic one. And it works great. If you have WinXP, no need to load the driver off the CD. Just plug it in (when power is on) let it load the general driver, then go to Windows Update where it will detect the new keyboard driver needed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pro Rip Off
This is a nice keyboard for those with small hands, such as myself, but there are serious problems as well:

First, the color coding on the multimedia keys is missing, making it very difficult to figure out which one is which.

Second, the USB connectiors are too small to fit any of my USB devices and are, therefore, completely useless.

Third, the push button sound adjustment is a very useful feature, but its increments are rather large, making it hard to fine adjust sound like you could with a more sophisticated round button system.

Beyond these, this is a nice, compact keyboard.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent product
This keyboard is one of the best I have used. You get more for the money than you will with any other Microsoft and Logitech keyboard. This comes with a load of features, including two USB ports(a large plus for those who have only two USB ports), 8 shortcut keys including two that can be customized, DVD and CD playback can be controlled right from the keyboard, there is a back and forward button for Internet Explorer, and the volume can be adjusted also. Try finding a keyboard with features like these, it will be [expensive]. The keyboard itself is extremely comfortable to type with and the buttons take alsmost no force to push down and it has such good response. The black and the look of the keyboard is sleek and nice that will go with any computer. It looks wonderful with a black computer. The only negative is the different keyboard layout that IBM has used. The Insert, Delete, Page Up/Down keys and the Arrow keys are a little bunched up. This saves space but it does get awhile to get used to, especially if you are one of those people who use those buttons a lot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good bang for the buck
This keyboard has an excellent tactile feel. I used to swear by Keytronic, but I really enjoy typing on this unit. The extras are fun too. An LED light turns on when you get e-mail in Outlook Express. Not sure how it works since it sometimes lights up when OE is not launched. My shortcut buttons are all black unlike the picture here which show them color-coded. That would be a plus in my opinion since the black keys tend to disappear in darkened conditions. Plus the glare off the monitor pretty much reflects off the clear plastic overlay of the customizable label (prints from keyboard software) which makes it impossible to see them. Apart from that, there's the nifty volume and CD/DVD controls. I love the mute switch the best though. Quick and dirty. Some may not like the placement of the cursor arrows and the Ins, Del, PgUp and PgDn keys which have been somewhat crowded between the alphanumeric keys and the numeric keypad. I got used to it rahter quickly though. It makes for relatively compact keyboard with a low-profile. Only 1" high at the front and 1.5" at the back. Software is easy to use and the built-in USB hub is useful for a mouse or the occasional digital camera plug-in. Speaking of mouses, check out the matching IBM Optical Navigator Mouse in Slate Blue with a glowing scroll wheel. Makes for quite the desktop duo. At about US$30 each, this duo has form and function for peanuts. Really. Try them both before you blow your money on Logitech or Microsoft's overpriced offerings.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb travel keyboard for laptop users
I bought this item for my IBM X21 subnotebook, and it's phenomenal for those times when I'm stuck in a hotel and have to do a fair amount of writing. The X21's keyboard is about as good as something so small can be, but it's agonizing to have to do any long-term keyboarding on it. The Media Access Pro has a very nice feel, is very light (which matters for travel) and relatively compact. I can do 100 WPM on it without cramping, and that's a fine thing in my line of work. (I'm a writer.)

But the kicker is the 2-port USB hub. The X21 has the canonical 2 USB ports, but with the Media Access Pro installed, you still have 3 USB ports to play with. I can thus plug in my compact Targus USB mouse, a USB ZIP drive, and the X21's USB CD-ROM drive all at the same time. (Before, I had to choose between ZIP and CD-ROM access.)

The media access features (basically configurable hot keys for Internet access and program launch) work well, but they're less useful on the road, when I'm typically not surfing but logging in and out quickly for email or rapid fact checking. I haven't tried the DVD controls, but the audio volume control works well.

In short, a big winner [...]! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Cheap and utilitarian backup/ travel mouse.
The lovely beauty of this mouse is the convergence of price, utility, and flexibility. It's cheap (too cheap to pass up if you still use a rollerball mouse), it's extremely adaptable as it works on Win2k/XP machines without even drivers, and it's a high-performer with the optical technology. No skips, no hesitations, just accurate and reliable pointing at a killer price point.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mighty Mouse!
No foolin', this is one great mouse for the money. No more shaking to dislodge a stuck mouse ball. Quick accurate pointer movements and a comfortable hand feel, this mouse includes a useful scroll wheel too. At this price, nothing appears to come close. Oh, and don't forget the limited lifetime warranty. Not sure what the limitations are, but lifetime is a pretty long time. It's nice to know the company is confident in the product. I like mine so much, I bought another one for a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Product and Great Price
This mouse is a good product and it saves you ... from purchasing the Microsoft Intellimouse. I had a small amount of trouble installing it on my 486, but I got it to work well after a while. It works fine on all of my other computers. The software also allows you to program the scroll wheel to perform a function upon clicking it. This mouse looks different than the advertisements show it. The mouse is white and the scroll wheel is blue. This is a PS2 mouse. If you have a computer department store at home, you could probably find this mouse .... This mouse works best on flat surfaces and senses even the slightest movement. Great Product! Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars SUPER MOUSE=SUPER PRICE

3-0 out of 5 stars Does not work properly with some applications...
I purchased and installed this product for a client of mine. I'm a computer consultant/technician. The installation was very easy. Sadly, the scroll wheel feature does not function properly in Microsoft Access from Office 97.

My client has a database with 768 entries. No matter where you are in this database, if you scroll up you go non-stop to record number one. If you scroll down you go non-stop to record number last. I have not found any way to stop this process.

Curiously, when you use the scroll wheel in other applications, it works pretty much as one would expect it to. I've found a few cases where it doesn't do anything, however.

Compared to any of the Logitech or Microsoft mice I've installed and/or used, I believe the software driver for this mouse may leave something to be desired.

I will update this review if and when the manufacturer replies to my email to their tech support department with a solution.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Better mouse than MS Optical Wheelmouse
I've purchased this mouse to replace my old Microsoft mouse. It feels very comfortable and the pointer movement is very precise. On a different computer, I am using the Microsoft optical WheelMouse, and thus, am able to compare the two. The Micro Innovations mouse controls the pointer with better precision. The MS WheelMouse, however, loses the pointer position on certain occasions (like once every hundred mouse movements). Also, the wheel between the two buttons works in the same way as the MS WheelMouse.
The only downside is that it does not include a USB connector, and also I was somewhat deceived by Amazon's picture:
- the mouse is WHITE, not GRAY/SILVER
- the wheel is BLUE, not BLACK
- the top of the mouse is not clean/blank; instead, it contains the "MICRO INNOVATIONS" logo.
I am using a dark gray/black keyboard and monitor, and was hoping this mouse would match the same color scheme. Nonetheless, this is only a minor issue.
The bottomline is: if you're looking for an optical PS/2 wheel mouse, Micro Innovations' Optical mouse is definitely the best buy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy
It's a horrible piece of crap that broke after two weeks. Several of the buttons have stopped working and I'm not waiting around to see how long it'll take for the other keys to conk out.

4-0 out of 5 stars PS/2 Port Needed
I just got the keyboard yesterday so I can't fairly rate its performance - but Amazon doesn't list the specs, and though Circuit City's sister listing states "Comes with AT connector and AT to PS/2 Adapter," the keyboard ONLY comes with a PS/2 input.

No problem, it's still a good deal - just be aware that you either need an available PS/2 port or an AT adapter, which'll cost a few more dollars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Product. All Windows Compatible
Its a nice product, inspite of its technical details saying that it is for win 95 , it works on all. its also a quite key keyboard. its Definately more worth for its price

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice Looks, Good Working Keyboard
This keyboard is used in my music studio- I keep the lights low while mixing and mastering various music I record- the black color of the keyboard is a plus and helps with the ambience of the studio. Being in the right mood is a must while forging music mixes and spending hours with this keyboards makes me feel more in the mood. A definate break from traditional colors. Works like a charm- good response and with a wrist rest I can mix and type for hours through the night! ... Read more
