5-0 out of 5 stars Lexar Media 256 MB Memory Stick
I purchased this memory stick and have been extrememly happy with it. I have a Sony 5.0 digital camera and have been using this memory stick constantly for the past few months with no problems. I would recommend it highly!

4-0 out of 5 stars Your best value choice for stick media.
I own two 256Mb Memory Sticks from Lexar. These sticks are, in fact, two 128Mb sticks in a single body; you must manually switch, via a micro DIP switch, which bank you wish to access. It also has a micro DIP switch for write-locking the media.

Now, manually switching banks is something to consider if you're looking for the latest and greatest: Sony has just released Memory Stick Pro media which can address up to 1GB of memory in a single stick. Is this a strong consideration? Probably not, since the 1Gb stick ends up costing more than your handheld.

In general use, these sticks are more than adequate. The minor incovenience of manually switching the banks is outweighed by the cost and backing of Lexar. Lexar makes good memory devices.

You could buy the Sony-branded sticks or Lexar-branded sticks, and you end up with identical media. Lexar's warranty on their Memory Stick media even surpasses Sony's, and it's the same item functionally. I recommend the Lexar sticks, withholding the final star because a soft-switch of the banks would have been perfect.

4-0 out of 5 stars For the price a pro stick is better
I have this Lexar stick and the SanDisk SDMSP-256-822 256 MB Memory Stick Pro. Unless you have an older camera that is not compatible with the Pro technology I highly recommend buying a Pro stick instead. The Pro stick does not have an a-b switch and it writes faster than the older memory sticks.

It is important however to make sure your camera (as well as any card reader) is compatible with the pro stick.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Deal
I bought one of the 256's at a local store for 870 some bucks. Works excellent but I never formatted it in the camera. Be sure you do that before taking pictures.

4-0 out of 5 stars Ehhh it works
I bought it to use in my sony dsc-p72 and well it worked fine but I could not get past picture #51 it gave me a file error so I had to turn it off and then look at the pictures from the last one back to picture 51. Odd but I just had to delete them all and start over. I had some really good pics I wanted to save but could not. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Woks Great!!!
I had slight confusion whether to choose the sony 64 MB memory stick, which is nearly the same price or this one, which has twice the memory capacity of the previous one. I choose this one for the better deal and to add to my surprise J&R Electronics shipped it so quickly(You guys Rock!!!). This one comes par with sony memory media in every field. So why choose the one with lesser memory capacity. Choose this one and feed your camera with some memory space!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ninguna diferencia.

4-0 out of 5 stars A+ for product, F for rebate
I've been using Lexar sticks for over a year with
a Sony digital camera. I've never had a problem with
a stick going bad, nor have I ever lost a single photo.

Although I crossed my t's and dotted my i's and sent
the rebate form in weeks before the 'must be received
by' date, the envelope was returned unopened, stamped
PROGRAM CLOSED. Not nice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy it if the price is right
I mean the selling price...forget about the rebate from Lexar. I will get mine when pigs fly.

I haven't seen any compatible issue between Lexar/Sandisk and Sony brands. Now there is a new format called Memory Stick Pro that are compatible with the old format. Other than this, I can't figure out how it could be incompatible among brands.

4-0 out of 5 stars It works well--better than the rebate.
This 128 mb memory stick works quite well in my Clie and in my PQI MS reader. I have no comparison to make to other brands or such. While I cannot comment on their relative product quality (although objectively it seems flawless), I can comment on their rebates.

It took 2 weeks more than the 8 to recieve a "Check # ###### in the amount of $15.00 Mailed on..." and then a date that is several days in the future. This, combined with some not so good reviews from other rebaters makes rebating with Lexar potentially risky.

I wish I would have gotten the switched 256 (128*2, operated by switch) MS. You can never have too much memory. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid Lexar at all costs.
I bought one of these for my new digital camera. 4 days and over 50 MB of photos later, this Memory Stick had a fatal error, taking all of my photos with it. I tried to retrieve the data several ways and all failed. Buy at your own risk. I'd go with a different brand if I were you. I lost photos I'll never get back, and when I returned the stick, the guy at the store told me that this happens more regularly with Lexar than other brands.

5-0 out of 5 stars the knock-off works great.
I didn't even figure that reviewing Lexar memory sticks was worthwhile, since they did their job so well that they could easily be forgotten about. I got a cardreader for the holidays and didn't realize the stick had an LED for data transmission until I used said reader - very slick. And for anyone worried about power drain with digital camera applications, the constantly lit power-on LED for your camera draws more juice than this one does. Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Never had a problem with it...
I was nervous buying this at almost half the price as the original sony memory stick, because I was putting it in my camera. With the camera - if the memory stick has errors, well those pictures are all gone... and unlike losing some phone numbers from your PDA because of bad memory - you can't recreate photos from your friends wedding because your memory stick went bad on you.

Well, the nervousness was unfounded! I've used this stick heavily since I bought it a few months ago, and has never failed me. It performs just as well as the smaller sony stick that came with the camera.

I'd also highly recommend the memory stick reader Lexar makes (you'll find it here on Amazon as well). I bought it after loosing the cable that connects my camera to my computer (the memory reader is *cheaper* than that single cable, if you can believe it!) and it's *better* because you don't waste batteries transferrring your pictures, and there's no cables to mess with when it's time to upload your pictures - just pop the mem stick into the reader that's always hooked up...

End result - Very happy with this memory stick and other Lexar products. They've worked flawless for me so far :)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Way To Add Memory
This product is the exact fit for any product using the sony memory stick. It is the same style and has the same specifications, and mine has had no hiccups or errors since using it for over 1 month (used daily). I bought this thinking it would be cool for the translucent cover over the memory, but quickly realized you can't see 95% of the stick when it's inside my Clie Peg s360. Also the built-in light on the memory stick is another feature I thought I'd like, but I also found out that my Clie has a light on it that shows when I'm writing to my memory stick. Therefore, that was pretty useless as well. Overall, I enjoy the stick due to its cheaper price than an original Sony and its comparable performance, but can't say much for the translucency and added light that I thought I would like. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Twinkles and is compatable
Other reviewers have commented on lack of compatablity with some memory readers. My family has two different Sony digital cammeras and three different (none of them Sony) memory stick readers. I have had no problem with any of the devices I use this memory stick with.

The blinking light is a nice feature for when using the stick readers.

In my experence the Lexar sticks have no functional difference (other than the blinking light) from the Sony sticks. The major difference seems to be the price. Lexar is typically cheaper.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big Problems with LEXAR 128 mb memory sticks
I bought two of the translucent purple sticks. They worked fine in my camera and recorded beautiful images. I travel alot so took the sticks to a photo shop to burn to a CD. The shop was unable to read any of the files. Then when I returned home I tried to transfer the images to my computer. The files were corrupted and I could not open them. Now, I have two sony memory sticks also. I had no problem with either of them. I do not know what the problem with the Lexar media is but it gets worse. Now I can not even view the photo on my camera. I get a message saying "Format Error". The computer and the camera recognize the photo files but are unable to open them. I am heart sick to have lost so many memories. ...

3-0 out of 5 stars Standard quality but LED waste power
Hi,
I have a Sony DSC-P71 Cybershot that I use with this memory stick. The memory stick has a LED that light's when it writes. But when it is inside the Cybershot you can't see it. And the Cybershot has it's own LED anyway. So I think this memory stick is wasting batery life.

Thank-you

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent device (so far)
I purchased the Lexar memory stick for my Sony Vaio PC. I also purchased a Sony PCMCIA Memory Stick Adapter (MSAC-PC2) for my IBM Thinkpad 600E. The adapter worked fine, was recognized instantly by XP, and now I can transfer large amounts of data back and forth among my laptop and my home PC without any problem.

XP recognizes the memory stick about the same as when you insert a CD--it pops up a dialog box asking you what program to use to view the new media.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Blinks While Its Saving Data
When I purchased this Lexar 128 MB Translucent Memory Stick, I thought I was getting a memory card in a really cool (purple) color.

I was surprised to learn, once I received it, that this Memory Stick also blinks (on its end) while its saving data -- so that you won't accidentally remove it while its doing so! (Cool!)

This Lexar Memory Stick works well in all of my Memory Stick devices -- my Sony Vaio computer, Sony Clie PDA, Dazzle 6-in-1 memory card reader, HP Photosmart Printer, even my Sony PC Card Memory Stick adapter. I haven't had any problems.

Delivery from Circuit City was also uneventful (and fast).

Is an indicator light and the cool translucent color worth a little cost premium? You bet! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent - you have to get this if you have a Sony Clie
I just got my Lexar 128 MB Memory Stick - just 3 days after ordering.! The ... price was excellent....and was even better with a ...rebate ...you cannot beat the price and it is identical to the Sony brand Memory Stick. Now, I have tons of photos on the Lexar Memory Stick and keep it nicely tucked away when I'm not using it inside the leather case for my Sony Clie 615T leather (which I got at ebcases.com). Save your money and go with this one instead. I strictly use it with my Sony Clie and I am 100% satisfied. Happy Holidays!

5-0 out of 5 stars Tastes Great, Less Filling!
Lexar has always been the Cadillac of 3rd party memory as far as I am concerned. Yes, not all manufacturers are created equal! (See how you feel when you discover the mfgr. "Compatibility List" for your application!!) I've used their CF, SM and now MS (Memory Stick) memory with nary a problem over the years. You might pay a premium for a high quality product, but in this case you get what you pay for.

What is especially interesting with MS, is they are competing with the "creator" of the format - Sony. Lexar is cheaper than Sony. Most people reading this will be asking "Should I just play it safe and buy Sony for more $$$??" The only difference I've found is that Lexar doesn't support their new proprietary music format - something that limits what you can do with your own music. Hardly an advance, if you ask me!

I am using Lexar MS 128k (2 sticks) on my Sony Clie T665C PDA and Viking IntelliFlash 6-in-1 Memory Reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredibly durable!
Went through the washer and dryer. Still works perfectly. Very impressive.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is for people who are new at these gadget things
I recently got a new sony digital camera which comes with a 16mb memory stick. It is obvious that I need another memory stick to hold more pix. I had trouble deciding how much mb I need that would hold lots of pix and at a reasonable price. As many can see, the 256mb is way more expensive than 128mb. But the 256mb holds more space?! Well, after much inspection and reading all the reviews from the customers, I've decided to stick with 128mb because I do not want to deal with flicking the little switch to access the second part of the memory stick. It turns out that the 128mb works out perfectly for me. Just a big picture for those of you who are new at these techonology gadgets as me, a 128mb memory stick would hold about 82 picutres on the automatic setting in the camera ( I have a sony DSC-P72) Of course, you can always change the setting to landscape mode, moonlight mode etc that will hold about 149 pictures for you.
Oh, and wait for the great amazon deal that sells this for only $32 and free shipping. make sure it is from Amazon, not office depot or J&R bc they charge shipping and tax. This deal doesnt appear often, so you just keep checking the website, you'll get that deal.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not compatible with extreme light situations
The Lexar 128 mb memory stick matches up in most cases to the Sony memory stick that originally came with my camera, but clearly fails in low light or very bright situations. I've reverted to buying a larger Sony memory stick.... ... Read more

...and found to have *exactly* the same write time as the Sony. My experience with these same write tests on CompacFlash & SmartMedia cards, which show rather marked differences from brand to brand but little variance among cards from the same manufacturer, indeed suggests that Lexar is the original manufacturer for Sony. Think of the Lexar then as an off-label or generic equivalent to the Sony, made on the same assembly line but offered at a lower price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing technology
I've seen memory sticks in stores but until you actually hold one, it's hard to grasp just how small these things are. They compare it to a stick of gum but that's actually overstating the size of the thing. These are TINY. I popped it into my VAIO and was transferring data between the laptop and card immediately. I use it now as my primary data storage source for my personal files. The price on this thing is amazing. I'm hoping they come out with a 1GB version in the near future but for day-to-day use, this thing is amazing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Spotty Performance with San Disk Reader
First one I purchased worked great... My sony P7 recognized it and my San Disk reader also read it. Immediately ordered another one.

2nd one was a bust. Reader would not recognize it. Sent to amazon.com for a replacement.

3rd one was spotty. Reader sometimes read it, sometimes not. Sent back for refund.

It should be mentioned that in all cases, my P7 (and my Clie for that matter) read the sticks. It was only the reader which had problems recognizing it-- which leads me to believe the readers are a bit picky when it comes to the sticks they accept. (I know the reader itself isn't broken because I have two of them, and both had the same problems reading.)

Also should be mentioned that my SONY brand memory sticks flawlessly every time-- by my cybershot, my clie, and my San disk reader.

So, if you are not using a reader, you should be fine. If you are using a reader (especially the SAn disk reader) I'd stick to Sony. The Lexars are cheaper, but what's the use if it doesn't work?

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatly priced for Sony quality Memory Stick
I own Sony Memory Stick and bought this one at amazon[.com] for it's very attractive price and mail in rebate offer. Other than the name of Lexar on the Stick, I see no difference in quality or performance when I use it with my Sony DSC-S85 Digital camera.

Thanks Lexar for saving me [$$$] bucks compared with Sony's similar stick.

Added on Sep 21, 2002: It's almost 10 month since I got this one and I use it almost every week and still is working great like a new one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ninguna diferencia.

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this over sony any day!
I have two 128MB Lexar sticks for my F717 and Clie, and they work PERFECTLY. I have no idea why people still buys the much more expensive Sony. Now I look forward for the Memory Stick Pro once they come down in price to acceptable levels. ... Read more

Having recently switched from compact flash camera to a Memory Stick I was happy to see that Lexar (my preferred brand for my CF camera) makes memory stick. They really know the mind of the hobby photographer! High quality and at a non-Sony (you're gonna pay a lot for my brand) price! ... Read more
