1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid Memorex CD-RW
This rewiew is for rewriteable media only!

These CD-RWs are very low quality. I have been using them for a year now and they are bad after erasing them 2-3 times on AVERAGE.

There must be a reason why Fujifilm only produces 650MB and does not offer 700MB disks with phase-change medium! (Fuji disks are my most dependable CD-R medium.)

I have used them with multiple CD-writers, packet writing, UDF, digital-camera, the pocket version 210MB/24min and the full version 700MB/80min. The pocket version for my digital camera (CD-MAVICA) is loosing pictures (read-errors) after 2x erasing the discs. Generally I cannot rewrite the discs or erase them with cdrecord after few times (MEDIUM ERROR).

Their ATIP information is as follows (so that you can distinguish them from other 'brands' that use the same discs):

Manuf. index: 40
Manufacturer: INFODISC Technology Co., Ltd.
Disk type: Phase change

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the Best
I have used cd-rw's for several years now. These are some of the most reliable I have used. But then you should expect nothing less from a company like Memorex.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dependable product
I have been using memorex blank media for a long time. They are the most dependable on the market. I have yet to come across a cd that was bad.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not for Macs
Macs can't recognize these disks. Though the pack contains a disk with CD-burning software only for PCs, nowhere on the package does it say the disks are for PCs only. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Disappointed
It appears these music CD-Rs do not work on most home CD players. I can only get them to work in my computer and in my car CD player (and that doesn't play back as great a quality as I'd like). I thought these would work since I had previously bought JVC Audio CD-Rs which are awesome. I won't bother with these again and unfortunately, I bought two spindles!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Playbility
I have tried a handful of different CD-R's in the past few years, and these have the best quality. Memorex did a great job with these black CD-Rs.

The black colour on them looks great, as well.

I use these to burn audio cds, and every track sounds as crisp and clear as on the original cd. Another advantage to these are that you can see dust on them perfectly, so they are easier to maintain. There are absolutely no problems I have encountered with these cds, I highly recommend them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Try the 10-Pack..
I wanted to try this Memorex CD-R, 80 Minute in the 10-pk box before committing to a 50-Pk spindle. I've had nothing but good luck with these CD-R's. (Not a coaster in the bunch!!)
If you aren't sure about getting that 50-pk spindle, go on and order the 10-Pack. Give them a try and (if you are as satisfied as I am with their performance) order that 50-pk spindle..you won't be disappointed!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just a Great CD-R Company
This CD-R company does great with there CD's!
There isn't no fuzzing, no any of the junk you get in some models! If your looking to record MP3 to CD-R or Coping a CD to this CD-R, This is the one to get! It sounds just like the orginal CD!

5-0 out of 5 stars Cheaper than in actual stores!
I have a stereo that will only burn music cdrs. I've always bought Memorex brand cdrs and have never had a coaster.

Thumbs Up! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Currently, these are RICOHJPN-W11 DVD+RWs
Hello,

As of July 6, 2004, these were the RICOHJPN-W11 DVD+RWs (Note that almost all distributors of DVD and CD recordable blanks, such as Memorex, can and do change their suppliers at any time, so there are no guarantees as to which factory your disks will come from.)

The RICOHJPN-W11 DVD+RWs are high quality media that work well in the NEC ND-2500A burner, and many others as well. You can check whether they are a good choice for your burner by going to cdfreaks dot com or other similar cd/dvd enthusiast sites. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

This 50-pack of 4x DVD-R discs consists of write-once, single-sided discs that store up to 4.7 GB of data and approximately 120 minutes of DVD quality video--that's more than six times as much data as will fit on a recordable CD. You can transfer your home movies from VHS or 8mm cassettes, back-up computer hard drives and large files, or stuff them chock full of MP3 music files and JPEG image files from your digital camera. A one-year warranty protects you against defects in the near term, while the discs' rated archival life of 70 to 100 years means you can rest easy about the future of your data.

Special Note:Using new recordable discs (4X for DVD-R) in 1X-2X Pioneer manufactured DVD drives and DVD recorders may cause damage to the DVD drive or recorder and possibly to the loaded 4X disc. The source of the problem is a firmware "bug" in certain DVD-R/RW drives and recorders, and not with the media itself. A firmware update is required to avoid potential damage to the units and discs.

The following products may be affected:
Pioneer DVR - A03 Computer Drive
Pioneer DVR - A04 Computer Drive
Pioneer DVR - 103 Computer Drive
Pioneer DVR - 104 Computer Drive
Pioneer DVR - 7000 DVD Recorder
Pioneer PRV - 9000 Professional DVD Recorder
Apple and Compaq Systems with DVD-R/RW Drives (Pioneer DVR-103 & DVR-104)

Anyone who owns or uses any of the above listed products should perform the free firmware update immediately, prior to using the new 4X DVD-R discs. Firmware updates can be accomplished in the following two ways:
For computer drives: A free update utility can be downloaded at www.pioneerelectronics.com/hs/

For computer drives and stand-alone DVD recorders:
A free update disc can be ordered at www.pioneerelectronics.com/hs/ or by calling toll-free 1-800-421-1623

5-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff
I have used the memorex 4x dvd-rs for close to a year now. I have had successful burns with every one of the two hundred I have purchased from Amazon.com. I have used a pioneer 105 to burn my movies and they all come out great. No pixelation or freezing at the edge(end of the movie) of the disc that you get with inferior quality discs. I have used these discs on three sony players and they work flawlessly. They also have no probs running on two different computers.

Note: I also have a sony DRU 500AX (I purchased this before I purchased the pioneer 105), like the reviewer below and I have had nothing but problems with the sony dru 500AX which is VERY VERY Picky with media. Let it be known that the Sony dru 500 is a biased towards PLUS media (As sony adopted the plus format)and will come up with problems when trying to burn with MINUS dvd media. If you have a plus writer stick to Plus media for less problems, or just avoid getting a sony drive in the future.

I no longer use the sony writer except to write data. I use the pioneer to burn all my movies and they ALL work!

I guess I'm plugging Pioneer drives too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best media available, even for a higher price
This is absolutely the BEST media out there. For ther person asking before, this burns at 4X speed on the Sony DRU-500AX burner with NO problems. You get VERY FEW coasters with this media using the picky Sony DRU-500AX. Fast, reliable and no skipping. Record-Now DX and DVD Shrink software is used to make great backups. Great for data. I have heard great reviews by MANY others on many other websites. You CANT GO WRONG with this media. Way better than Princo and other cheapie store brand media that are always on sale (like the ones CompUSA sells). For under $1/disc, PLEASE spend the extra money on these blanks. I know you can get other media for cheaper if you look around but you cant complain if you are getting media that works flawlessly for under a buck. Trying to save any more money is just being unreasonably cheap and will cost you in the long run. Buy these. Only TDK (great media) can keep pace with these blanks

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
Love these DVDs! Recording has never been easier! I've used around 30 of them, and not one coaster yet. That's a much better result than my CD recording which always results in a coaster here and there...

5-0 out of 5 stars Good speed and not a single coaster.
Works great with my new BTC 4x dvd+/-rw drive. The 4x speed is as advertised and not one coaster after > 20 burns(backups of my harddrives and some movies). Now, I can bring all my son's movies with us on trips without the fear of damage or loss. The backups can be played on any DVD-ROM drives and all my home DVD players plays all my backups wonderfully as well, just like originals. The service from Amazon is always great but I did not get it from here because I need is urgently and got a slightly better deal from a local store last week. Grab them while they are still available. Amazon's price is competitive and shipping is FREE! Do search with google to try find a better deal and will you always end up back here. Great Job Amazon. Keep up the great work.

2-0 out of 5 stars Check compatibility with writer BEFORE buying media!
One out of every 4 discs would fail on me when I'd burn to this media at 4x. Slowing down the burn to 2x didn't help either! I own a Sony DRU500A with the latest firmware. Memorex isn't on their compatibility list. Lesson learned: check the compatibility list BEFORE buying!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best DVD-R on the market!
These are the best dvd-r's on the market. I have only had a handful of these not work, out of the hundreds that I have used. Very stable and plays on most dvd players. Highly recomend! Can't beat the price!

1-0 out of 5 stars Be Careful + and -
I have a TEAC DV-W58E and I cannot get them to recognize these discs. I previously used 4x DVD+R with no problem. It was only after I bought these that I realized the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R. They are the same price.

3-0 out of 5 stars misprint
I think that it is supposed to say "21 minute" not "210 minute" in case anyone else was confused about that. And it should probably be changed. I just did three stars because I have no feelings about the product either way being that I did not buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Compact and convienient
I've been using these disks for all manner of uses for quite some time now...they're great for putting your resume and other info onto and bringing to job interviews, for example....and have yet to have come across any of the disk/data corruption issues mentioned.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shameful and Degrading
Let me start by correcting the name of the product. It is a 210 MB / 24 minute CD-R spindle. I went to Europe with my CD Mavica and this exact item. It is now a little over a month after my return, and several disks (containing our trip to London and a friend's wedding) no longer work in my computer or camera. It seems the data is degrading from the disks. Luckily, we gave copies of the wedding pictures to the bride, so we'll get those back. London, however is only captured in memory anymore. I should have known. Memorex. . .memory + ex. "ex" comes from the Latin for "out of, from." You get the picture. Unless you took it with a memorex disk.

5-0 out of 5 stars De lo Mejor
Son Excelentes. Sobre todo por su tamaƱo. Lo unico malo es que les son dificiles de conseguir las cajas o los sobres.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good dvd-rw media.
I've bought these five Memorex dvd-rw on Amazon. All five of them are very good so far. To write and rewrite and rewrite on 3 disks and they are all good. I've used them with new Sharp 300U Dvd-recorder with 80GB HDD.

1-0 out of 5 stars AVOID IF YOU HAVE NEC 1300a
It will not work on this drive. Period. I switched to Maxell and Fujifilm disks, and now I'm a happy camper.

1-0 out of 5 stars Does not work with Plextor PX-708A Drive
These disks simply do not work with the Plextor-708A DVD writer, even with the latest firmware upgrade. When I called Plextor for some guidance, they told be never to use this brand. I switched to TDK and had no problems after that.

4-0 out of 5 stars not universally compatable
while not so much the fault of the disks themselfs but rather the -rw format itself. You may find earlier (older) dvd drives including set top boxes will not read this format.

i use -rw's more for replay on the burner then for use on set top boxes, or for sending to family and friends. Using them to get the format and feel then burn to a -r disk. This is the most availble brand and is recomended for most inhouse uses. I find the -r the most compatable, and the +rw format the least.

3-0 out of 5 stars DVD+RW media
I purchased a pack of 5 of Memorex DVD+RW to use on my Sony DRU-510A. It was my first time to use a DVD burner so I was patient to learn how to use it. I was able to burn only once to a disk and when I tried to erase it it gave me hell. The burner told me that there was a defect on the disc so I went back to the store and explained what happend. They were happy to get me another pack but the same thing happen to me again. So I returned them. I do not know if I was using them correctly but if they work like CDRW then I need to change brand. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Buy.....More Than Just A Lens Cleaner
After pouring over all the DVD/CD Laser Lens Cleaners here, that vary quite a bit in price, I took the advice of the last reviewer who said they all work about the same, so for the price this one will do the trick. So thanks "an electronics fan from New York"..You were right. The"Memorex CD/DVD Laser Lens Cleaner" cleaned and restored the performance of my DVD player(which is also a CD player), and more. It has 6 little brushes on the disc designed to remove dust and other small particles that may be lurking on your laser lens after hours of play. This ensures a crisp/clear playback.

What the buying info here on the product page didn't tell me, was that seven "Quality Tests and Optimization Tools" are also included on this terrific little gadget. The whole process between the cleaning and the tests took all of about 5 minutes. Once the nice voice told me my lens was clean it instructed me on making sure that I was getting optimum effciency from my set up.

The tests included are 1.Stereo Imaging and Channel ID Check-checks set up of left and right speakers. 2.Polarity Test - checks positive/negative set-up. 3.Sweep Test - will let you know if all your speakers are working correctly. 4.ProLogic Imaging- checks your surround sound. 5.System Balance Check -adjusts for optimum volume levels. 6.Rattle Test - checks for vibration during low frequency emissions. 7. System Purity Test -checks for unwanted interference. If your system doesn't "pass" any of these tests, "the voice" will also tell you how what to do to correct it, or will tell you that your system is at it's optimum level. It will also advise you on how often to clean your DVD player.

I love this thing! It's multifunctional, reusable(keep it stored in the case it comes with), a good brand name and the price is right. Go for it....Laurie

3-0 out of 5 stars Audio CD only, no video DVD encoding.
This wouldnt play at all in my DVD player, the menu never came up and it wouldnt even detect as an audio CD for some reason. It did, however, work great with my CD player and even allowed to find out my speakers were out of phase which I easily corrected by reversing the positive and negative leads for one of the speakers.

I'll be looking for another cleaner for my DVD player as this one seems to be made more for audio and has no video features as far as I could find.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worked perfectly
I own a Sony 2001 SCD775 CD/SACD Player. Until recently it would play any burned CD's perfectly. During the last several months, it would refuse to recognize burned cd's at all most of the time. This problem seemed to be dirt, as burned cd's are more difficult to read than regular cd's. This Memorex CD/DVD Laser Lens cleaner worked quickly and restored my CD player to perfect working condition for burned and regular CD's. Give this CD cleaner a shot--it's definitely worth the money!

3-0 out of 5 stars Didn't work with my computers
The product states that it works with CD-ROM, DVD-ROM products. The audio portion didn't work with either my desktop or my laptop. Worked just great with my DVD player and stereo system, though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done
Most lens cleaners are the same, so for the price, this does the trick just fine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars almost one year and going fine
I have two of these memorex jumps "thumbdrive." Both have worked fine and taken a lot of abuse as well!
To the reveiwer below who had trouble with their USB, perhaps you a a newbie. I suggest you check your machine. I have used a dozen different brands (memorex, sandisk, lexar, etc) and never had trouble with a single one or machine pc or mac, usb 1, 1.2 or 2.0 and any drive. perhaps you twisted it while taking it out.

In any case memorex support is great, I had one drive I crushed in a door (my fault and a strong enough impact to also destroy may car alarm gizmo) and they sent me a new one! I have had otehr brands (ironically the lexar "sport"), where the keychain holder broke, memorex is actually more study than most)

Memorex jumps are also true usb 2.0 and there are a few cheap ones that aren't.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst product to ever buy
This is the worst flash drive ever someone can buy. I bought two of them for my personal use and both of them failed to work between USB2.0 and USB1.1. I've two computers at my home with one being USB2.0 and the other one being USB1.1. This flash drive miserably failed to work. Every time, I switch between the USB systems, the flash drive would have to be formatted.

This is more nuisance then ever.

I would never by a flash drive from Memorex ever in my life and I would certainly inform my friends about the same.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at prsiva@hotmail.com

2-0 out of 5 stars drive works fine but cap broke too soon
One of the reasons I chose the Memorex over some other options (like the comparably priced SanDisk for example) was because I wanted to put it on my keychain rather than risk losing it or having to put it around my neck. I've had the drive less than three weeks and the cap is already broken-- it came right off my keychain. I didn't abuse it or toss it around or step on it or doing anything extraordinary. And it's less than 3 weeks. Very annoying.

The drive itself I haven't had problems with, though. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable!
Bought these for recording on my Sony DVD Recorder. First problem encountered: does not record from timer set programs. Second frustrating problem: I will frequently record from TiVo programs onto these discs, then try to play them back and come up with the same disc error problems ("disc error, unreadable, or disc dirty). Some of the discs work without a hitch, then the next few will be completely unusable! I will not buy these Memorex discs again and recommend you do not waste your money on them either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very reliable
I've used several hundred of these Memorex DVD+RW's with a Cyberhome recorder, no problems, as compared to the Memorex printable disks and a few other brands. In fact, I no longer buy any other type because of the convenience, price and reliability. As for the person who quoted Memorex tech support as saying +RW has a data retention rate of only 5 years, I checked with them today and they say, "The media will last 70 plus years, however you should check the data every 5 years to ensure quality." I think that need to check is good advice for every type of storage media, so I'm sticking with +RW as a personal preference for the way I record. I essentially record everything and decide later whether or not to keep it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some things to keep in mind
I bought these after having great success with the memorex 25 +R X4 pack. they burn fine on my liteone but can only be read by the same drive and not by my other dvd. Also, I confirmed with memorex technical support; these disks have a much shorter data retention rate than the +r format; 5 years+ vs 70 yrs+. FYI.

2-0 out of 5 stars Be careful....
I own the Gateway AR-230 DVD recorder. I purchased this 25 pack of Memorex DVD+RW's thinking it was a great bargain......too bad it wasn't. The first one I used worked fine, but this only set me up to record something using my timer only to come home and find that the DVD had a write error. The recording was lost, and so was the DVD as it wouldn't read even as it tried to format. I figured it was a one time thing, but the next two Memorex DVD+RW's I tried both failed as well. One would stop after recording for 30 seconds after formatting, and the other couldn't even be read. Then, of course, I thought something was wrong with my DVD recorder, but my Verbatim DVD+RW's work great. If only they were the same price! : ).....anyway, make sure these suckers work with your deck before spending your hard earned $$.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great For Standalone DVD Recorders And Cloning Drives
I picked up 6 packs of these Memorex +RW's from CompUSA (150 total). They work great in my Liteon LVW5005 DVD recorder. I also used them to Ghost my hard drive. 40GB drive filled up about 5 discs when compressed. Hey, 2.4x isn't that slow...about 22 min a disc vs about 15min for 4x. Not worth the price difference to go 4x (.40, .50 or more $$ per disc extra for no-name discs). I haven't had a failed burn yet with these Memorex discs. The fact that they're re-usable up to a 1,000 times makes these a great value. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Works BUT...
I've used this extensively to clean and fix library discs in horrible shape. It works fine IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. Always use the cleaner with the abrasive. On really soiled discs, do a cleaning cycle first (otherwise you'll drag grit on the surface). Clean the pads about every five uses. I use Simple Green and running water (dry 'em too) -- you'll get better results, and the pads will last a lot longer.

I haven't noticed the film problem. Maybe they fixed that. Also (just a guess), it's possible that Memorex has quality control problems with the pad's spring tension, causing the swirling scratches mentioned by some reviewers. I have not had this problem except when I experimented with harsher abrasives.

1-0 out of 5 stars THE SCRATCH MAKER
This device is supposed to repair CDs and DVDs, but what it does is the opposite. In repair mode the unit did nothing to repair the scratches which caused skipping on one of my DVDs. In cleaning mode the unit ruined two of my DVDs: the discs developed numerous scratches from the abrasive action of the rotating cleaning pads and were covered by a greasy film caused by the cleaning solution. The circular scratches could not be removed. I was able to remove some of the sticky grease by using dishwashing liquid, warm water, a soft cloth, and plenty of elbow grease, but what developed thereafter were permanent white spots all over the disc.

In the end, I was left with two damaged discs and a lot of wasted time. I returned the item for a refund, but what I spent to replace the discs cost me more, far more.

THIS PRODUCT MUST BE RECALLED IMMEDAITELY.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fixing the hazy film
I work at a Library that uses this cleaner and we discovered that the film left on the disc was caused by the cleaning solution not the cleaner itself. You can remove the film from the disc if you wipe it with rubbing alcohol. You do need to apply a bit of pressure when wiping. We have begun to clean our discs by spraying them first with rubbing alcohol and not using the solution that was included with the cleaner. I hope this helps.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cleaning Mode Does Damage!
I must agree with the other shopper who found this unit damaging his discs. In cleaning mode, the Optifix Pro leaves a hazy film on the disc, with radial swirl patterns, that I have not been able to remove. An effective cleaner should leave a disc shiny and bright, free of haze. According to Memorex, this haze is caused by the pads and solution and can be wiped off -- but I wasn't able to wipe it off. I would have to call this product UNACCEPTABLE, and I am returning it for a refund. I guess I'll have to pick up one of the Maxell cleaners; they're poorly made of cheap plastic, but at least they clean a disc effectively and feature reusable pads...

4-0 out of 5 stars It's good
It has saved 4 cd's so far in the repair mode. Did a beautiful job cleaning. So far the only down side is getting replacement supplies repair or cleaning (such as repair goo or pads). I personnaly am very pleased. ... Read more
