This recorder kills batteries.

Amazon.com Product Description

The compact Memorex MDP8507CP not only plays MP3 files burned to CD, but also professionally recorded CDs, CD-R and CD-RW discs. A key feature to this player is the included car kit. Combine the cassette and DC adaptors with the forty-five seconds of anti-skip coverage (120 seconds for MP3 files) and you have a nice option for a vehicle CD player. Playback options include twenty-one track programming, as well as random and repeat (single track, all tracks). Use the extensive search mode to find music by subject, title or artist. An auxiliary output lets you hook the player up to your home system through a stereo Y interconnect (not supplied).

The four-line text and numeric LCD simplifies file maintenance and offers scrolling text so you can read the full artist name and song title. The player supports MP3 bit rates of 32, 64, 96, 128, 192, and 256 Kbps, as well as variable bit-rate recordings (MP3 format ISO 9660). A hold switch prevents unintended interruptions in playback and saves batteries by negating playback when the player is stopped. Dynamic bass boost system (DBBS) heightens the impact of low frequencies. The player also contains an electronic equalizer which provides superior sound quality. The player runs on two AA batteries (not supplied.) This unit does NOT include an AC adaptor.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good basic, but some issues
Let me start off by saying that this is a pretty good little player, but the portable part is where the problems come in. I have only used this player with an MP3 disc, so no comments refer to CD ability.

Overall: Loads fairly quickly, about the same as my in-dash car MP3-CD player. It's quite solid, however, the lid is slightly out of alignment, and the volume control is via two small buttons instead of the typical dial, so they don't always respond very quickly, and sometimes not at all.

Portability: While I wouldn't expect a player to work well while running, it even seemed to have problems while on a slow walk. Battery life seems good, however. I've gotten about 10 hours out of this set of batteries, and they're still going.

Useability: The buttons can be quite insteresting to try and figure out without the manual. It took me about 20 minutes, and I'm quite adept at gadgets. The biggest problem I have with this player is that the random function is anything but random. The first time through, it is quite random, however, the next time you put in the same MP3-CD and push random, it feels like the list has been heard before. In fact it has. It's the exact same order as the last time. Not very random now, is it?

4-0 out of 5 stars Works as both CD and MP3, complicated
I bought this player so I could listen to a ton of MP3s burned on to a CD. It works! It's easy to make the CD. Basically burn the CD with about 200 of your favorite songs (it only plays back mp3s) either in folders or all your mp3s on the disc not in any folder. Either way it works. I chose to make folders for various types of music.

The problems:
1- due to the few controls and small display, it's awkward to navigate to find a song you want to play.
2- It can only play MP3s or regular old Audio CDs (no wma or WAV files) You also can't fool it by renaming files to .mp3.

The good:
1.Sound is good. (not great, but then MP3s aren't real high quality)
2.Volume is fine, it gets loud enough.
3.It comes with a Car adapter to plug it in.
4.Has a cassette adapter!
5.Comes with average head phones.
6.Has headphone output and line outputs so you can plug it in to your home or car stereo with no problems.
7.Has 45 seconds of CD anti-shock memory and over 120 seconds of MP3 anti-shock memory! This is cool. This means that most songs will totally load in memory and the CD will stop! This saves battery power. Very cool!
8.You can pick this up about [price]! A great deal!
9. Plays back CD-R and CD-R/W discs
10. A ton of other fetures I'm not using like EQ, random playback

Hint: to plug it in to AC power, go to Radio Shack and buy a 12 volt Cigarette adapter. You can use it for other 12 volt stuff, it's cheap and works great!

In short, while the controls are awkward, you can't beat this for value! I like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lasted 2.5 years of hard use!
I'm so sad that this just died! I used it continuously for 2.5 years, and it never let me down. I dropped it a number of times, and it kept right on working. It was well worth the price and I hope I can find another one!

3-0 out of 5 stars Display Dies...and sound quality minimal..
It was really frustrating considering I dropped quite a few dollars on this machine..to discover that 4 months later..the screen went out and now the thing will only turn on when plugged into the wall. I have tried 3 - 4 sets of new battaries all to no avail...granted memorex offers great products cheaper then sony or others..but i tell you ...the things die just when the warranty expires. No more memmorex anything for me!

5-0 out of 5 stars AAAAHHHHSSOOOOMMMMMEEEEEEE
Memorex does it again, this is my third MP3 CD Player from Memorex, they were on board with the technology from day one, and having owned three of these now, I see the progression, and improvement of their product with every one that I purchase. The others served me well, very well in fact, the first one I gave to a friend, the second tok a 3 story tumble, landed on it's side and exploded, this is the replacement. I work construction, and can pack an entire days worth of music on an MP3 CD. I will buy MP3 CD Players from Memorex as long as they continue to make them..... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A great product to enhance your memory...
If you have trouble remembering some things that you should not forget, you need this little device. For light note taking (this machine has a one-hour capacity), this recorder is perfect. It is easy to learn and use, and the sound quality is good. The only complaint I have is that the screen is slightly hard to read. I suppose that can't be helped since the recorder is so small. Regardless, you will enjoy having and using this device. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful product for a rip-off
I can't even believe that Memorex decided to put this out for the Christmas market season. After mine died, I opened it up to test what had happened in my case, and found that my water-resistant speaker was shot. If Memorex is going to market a radio as a "shower" radio, it needs to be able to withstand at least the amount of steam that you find on a bathroom mirror after a shower. Agreeing with some of the other reviews, I would not recommend this product for anyone, and feel that Memorex has violated my trust with them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Displeased
This unit has died unexplicitly. We have replaced numerous batteries and the unit refuses to work. After reading some of the other reviews (albeit too late), I guess I feel a bit gratified because the unit worked for 68 days instead of just one week. I have made repeated phone calls to customer service and have yet to speak to a person. I am simply told to leave my name and number and someone will contact me. The call has not come. Summary: I regret buying this product (Christmas present for my son) and I will most likely not purchase other Memorex products, even their tapes...this experience has left a sour taste in my mouth.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible product, terrible customer service
This is the first online review I've ever written, but I was compelled by how awful this product was and then by how indifferent the customer service was. I got this as a gift, and thought it would be great for my 6 year old son who likes to listen to kids music while he takes a bath. But the CD player mysteriously stopped working after about a month. Then, when I finally got through to customer service, the woman on the line said they could do absolutely nothing for me without a receipt (even when I offered to give her the serial # off the player, which presumably would tell them it was just purchased and is still under warranty). When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she said she had none. I would never buy anything from Memorex ever again.

1-0 out of 5 stars Drains batteries, broke down after a couple of month
My radio just could't get enough power. It swollowed batteries without first chewing them. Finally, it broke down two month later - the sound disappeared. No sound from radio and from CD. I decided not to repair, but to throw it away. Don't even want to waste shipping fees on fixing it.

1-0 out of 5 stars JUNK
This riadio did't meet any of my expectations. It is big, fragile, and stoped workin the first time I used it with a CD, and never worked again... Not even the radio. It lasted for about 2 days... Don't waste your $$. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Why blame a product if you drop it?
I was happy enough with this product, but I wonder why some customers feel it is the fault of the product if they are the ones who drop and break it? Whould you blame a glass if it broke after falling???? Take reponcibility please....

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't drop it!
I got this CD/Radio player as a gift, unpacked it, set it on the desk at my work and accidentally pulled it off the desk by moving away from it while wearing headphones. The player dropped to the floor, the CD player quit working. I exchanged it at the store for a new one. The new one lasted about 2 weeks, and maybe got dropped twice (by now i had bought a pouch for it to strap it to my waist and also to buffer any further falls). After that and maybe two more drops, the CD player was broken again. I still use it for the radio and have no complaints there, but of course it is a bulky portable radio only...

2-0 out of 5 stars Cheap? Not really!
I wouldn't buy one if it only give 7 hours battery life. The lower price you pay initially is quickly eaten up by batteries. Get a Panasonic unit that gives you well over 30 hours.

4-0 out of 5 stars Over, a great servicable discman
STUFF I LIKED:
1) it has a radio! its awesome, so that if you get bored of CDs, theres always the radio there to listen to. reception was decent from where i was...some stations better than others. it even partially worked for a while underground in the subway lol.
2) sound quality in general is perfectly fine. it has enough options -the basics, play stop pause skip etc, and some program song things and random shuffle, intro, repeat, repeat all. im not that into hi tech stuff, so maybe to other people who are used to all sorts offancy buttons this may be a disappointment, but it was perfectly fine for me, perfectly servicable and adequate.
3) great anti-skip thing -45 seconds. it hasnt skipped at all so far with the antishock thing on, even running a bit. and you even have the option to turn it off if you want. pretty cool.
4) it has a "low battery" display thing to warn you.

THINGS I DIDNT LIKE:
1) the buttons are easy to reach cuz theyre in the front, but then if you try to put the discman in a bag or something the buttons get pressed by other things easily, so its best to just hold it in your hand which is kind of annoying. but thats just a minor thing
2) its rather on the bulky side, especially compared to super expensive new ultra slim models. its a tight fit into a really big jacket pocket. but its okay though.
3) personally i like the behind the ear headphones or earbuds or something, but this is traditional over your head earphones. theyre good quality though, the volume is fine, music doesnt get warped, perfectly servicable once again. it doesnt block out outside noise at ALL though, which can be annoying (especially on the subway). but theyre decent
4) sort of short battery life...my first set of new batteries got eaten up in about 6-7 hours...i dont know if thats considered good or bad, but ive heard of other discmans having battery lives of like 30 hours and such.

so overall, a really great buy...very affordable especially for all its features and stuff. i shopped around a lot before choosing this cd player, and im happy with my decision.

5-0 out of 5 stars All this and a Radio Too......
1.) The unit will play back CD-RW Discs.

2.) The Radio has programmable presets for your favorite AM and FM Stations. The PLL Digital Tuner ((PLL) Phase Locked Loop) offers drift-free reception, and will adjust automatically to better receive your favorite radio station when necessary.

3.) The Player has a 24 Track Programmable Memory. The Full Digital LCD Display will show the listener the radio station (By Number) when listening to the radio, and the Track/Min. /Sec. when listening to a CD.

4.) Oversampling: 8X Digital Filter with a 1 Bit D/A Converter.

5.) The user has the ability to turn off the ESP (Electronic Shock Protection (Anti Skip)) in order to save on the battery usage when the unit is stationary.

6.) Stereo Headphones Included. (Over the top of your head Bar Type)

7.) The Player is packaged in hard clear plastic with a full color display card.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent size, price and total package
This is a great keyboard. Has everything you need in MUCH less space. Also lays flat on the desk if you want it to.
Why do other keyboard (and PC) makers insist on adding more useless features instead of making good functional products like this? We've bought 3 of them. The price can't be beat and the spillproofing has come in handy more than once, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good, Quiet Keyboard for a Crowded Desk
This keyboard is great for desks with limited keyboard space. If you're looking for a keyboard that doesn't have lots of extra (and in my opinion useless) keys but still has a numeric keypad and a "Windows" key, this one is perfect. Note that its NOT a USB keyboard which is is good if all of your USB ports are already in use. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Designed for the family on the go, Memorex's aptly named Roadrunner is a nifty mobile videocassette playback system designed to fit snuggly against the backseat of just about any car--facing passengers in the back seat, of course! Its compact size, light weight (just 18 pounds), and fully self-contained components make the Roadrunner as easy to install as it is to remove, while an optional power adapter lets your family enjoy videotapes and games in the car, at home, or in a hotel room.

Roadrunner's black, sculpted-plastic body houses an adjustable 5-inch LCD (liquid crystal display) screen, an easy-to-use VCP (videocassette player), jacks for both video games and two sets of headphones, and a built-in 2-inch speaker. (Note that the LCD screen is not a television--no TV tuner is included nor are there jacks for one--and that the videocassette player does not record.)

As with all LCDs, the Roadrunner's 5-incher is light-sensitive, so the pivoting screen is essential if the backseat passengers are going to get a consistently good, if small, picture; the easily accessible controls help here, too. The 2-inch speaker produces decent sound, and it's clear enough as long as you keep the volume at a sane level. The dual headphone jacks are a great idea, allowing kids to watch a video or play a game in the backseat while the parents chat or listen to the auto sound system up front (though excited screams from video game players may challenge mom and dad!).

Aside from its small screen size, there isn't much not to like about the Roadrunner. It's a breeze to take in and out of a car. It can be used indoors, has clean ergonomics, and can entertain with tapes as well as video games. (We'd also suggest having a few sets of headphones handy, so front seat passengers can travel in peace if they like.)Though it isn't cheap, Roadrunner is sure to make those trips through the woods to grandmother's house a whole lot more fun for kids and parents alike. --Wayne Garcia

2-0 out of 5 stars Without a doubt, the worst wireless mouse available
The keyboard isn't too bad. Never had any trouble with it. The mouse is another story. It frequently needed to be reset with the receiving base. I used this combo to control my home theater PC, so I placed the receiving base by the computer about 5 feet away from where I sit. Everytime I needed to reset it, that involved playing with cabling to pull the receiving base out to a position where I can hit the "reset" button. Anyone who has an intricate wiring setup for their PC/Stereo/TV can appreciate that this is a hassle. Eventually, I grew bored of playing this game and stretched the receiving base out to the coffee table. Sure, there was an ugly cord stretched out in the middle of the room, but I was sick of having to dig it out.

Another problem with the mouse is that it seems to go to "sleep" after 20 minutes of inactivity. Which means moving it does nothing. You have to click a button to wake it up. I've had a screensaver running and having to click a button to wake up the mouse has ended up sending that mouse click to an application running under the screensaver. I try to use the keyboard to turn off the screensaver before waking the mouse.

If that wasn't annoying enough, the mouse NEVER EVER worked! It was flaky. I'd right click on the desktop, not move the mouse at all, and by the time the menu popped up, I was unable to move the mouse pointer. Distance from the RF base had nothing to do with this, as I was able to duplicate this 1" away from the base. In the middle of a mouse operation, the mouse would stop working. This happens every time I use it. Imagine the frustration of trying to control a DVD app, hitting the seek button, then having the mouse stop working when you need to hit play again. I have never owned such a difficult to use mouse, wireless or otherwise. I eventually lost my temper with it one day and through it down the stairs. Remarkably, this seemed to fix it, although temporarily.

I have since paid up for the Gyration wireless combo and am happy I did. The keyboard may find another use in my house, but I cannot get the mouse out of my sight quick enough. Basically, if having a mouse is important to you, walk away from this combo.

1-0 out of 5 stars Caveat Emptor II (another buy at your own risk)
I have had this keyboard for 4 months. I never did like the mouse so I didn't use it other than to verify its function. It worked, but lacked 100% every time precision that a cable-connected mouse has. The keyboard however, worked like a champ for about 3 months. Then for the last several weeks of its life I would have to re-initialize the transmitter/receiver. It would work fine for a day or two, then I would have to re-init again. Then finally it stopped even re-initializing. I did the normal troubleshooting, checked the batteries, connections, interference from other devices that transmit, etc. I believe it has bought the farm.

5-0 out of 5 stars CAN IT GET ANY EASIER?
I received this as a gift from my mother in law for Christmas. In the almost 5 months that I have had it I don't know how I got along without it. It has made me lazy. I don't even get up to get on the computer half the time. I lay in bed on a Saturday and list all my Ebay. My mouse and keyboard work wonderfully. I don't understand the other unfavorable reviews. It seems to me they just didn't install it properly or they had other comp issues not to be blamed on the product. I have recommended this to all my friends and family and quite a few have bought it and have had no probs what so ever.

2-0 out of 5 stars Keyboard - Great ; Mouse - Bad
They keyboard is great. After successfully installing and connecting it to the computer, it works like a champ. However, I would do something about the icons on the keyboard. They aren't always easy to interpret quickly.

The mouse is another story.I could never get it to install via PS/2.Plus, even if I had, the shape is not comfortable, as in the center front of the mouse, the shape rises to a high peak.Really high, and forcing my fingers to feel like they're curling down.

2-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware
I was very disappointed in this product. The keyboard and mouse itself look great and feel high quality. The keys on the keyboard are ultra-quiet.However, the keyboard never worked (the mouse did work great and is the only reason I gave this product 2 stars as opposed to 1).Technical support for Memorex has very funky hours, but when they were open, they could only tell me that indeed, my keyboard did not work. Thanks guys.Office Depot/Amazon was great in returning the product even though the return period was up (which makes me wonder if this is a common problem). ...
