4-0 out of 5 stars Labelez votre CDs!
"labelez"? I kinda doubt that's correct...

I've used these for a few years now. They work. There are some definite consistency issues between pages as the labels aren't always cut in the same place, but the other brands I've tried (Avery in particular) had similar problems.

The secrets to doing consistently successful CD labels on any brand of label paper? Background images should be signficantly larger than the label and also cover the hub completely, keep lettering well within the label (1/8" minimum clearance from the edges recommended), and do test prints on plain paper first. And you'll still waste some label sheets, guaranteed.

I've used the labels in a HP4050 laserprinter, a BJC-600 bubblejet and a Epson Stylus 1280 without any problems whatsoever. The 1280 works *very* well, and the quality of the output is impressive even at a low 360DPI setting (although a higher DPI is suggested). I haven't tried the "photo paper" labels, but except in really exceptional cases they wouldn't be worth the extra cost. Laser printers are OK but the labels don't really last that long if the CDs get any sort of wear.

Despite the issues with the labels moving around between pages I'm sticking with the same brand, as all my templates are already set up for them, and they also have had good longevity for me. CD-RWs I labeled in 1999 still have their original labels with no peeling or bubbling issues, always a good thing.

I've never used the enclosed software; I use either GIMP or my own custom label generator program under Linux. There are inexpensive labeling programs for Windows/Mac that are probably better in any case.

Finally: you really need the label applicator to use these. It was worth it, as I've never had any problems with either off-center or misapplied labels. It helps to not curl the label as you remove it from the sheet (keep the label straight as you peel the paper away from it), but it'll work OK even if the label is curled a bit. Don't forget to burnish the label down a bit after it's been applied.

1-0 out of 5 stars Memorex Labels Peel Off After 1-2 Weeks
I've purchased Memorex brand labels 2-3 times in the past. Almost without exception, I've found that these labels tend to begin peeling off the CD after 1-2 weeks. Although the NEATO brand labels cost twice as much, they are of much higher quality and do not peel off as easily. I have NEATO labels on CDs that are over 2 years old with no signs of peeling.

3-0 out of 5 stars Quality Control?
I purchased a pack of 100 that were supposed to have precuts for the full disk size and precuts for 2 sizes of center cut out; one the size of the clear section in the center of the disks and the other the size of the center hole. About half of the pack had sheets that were like this. However, the other half of the pack did not have a precut for the small (about 1/2 inch) center hole. I am getting ready to complain to Memorex.

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking For A Good Deal?
For the price, these labels are a GREAT deal! I have used up the 100 I have perchased and I'm about to order more. The only problem that you may have with these labels is that the paper is very thin and that anything dark which is on the CD face will show through. If you have written on the CD face with a permanent ink marker, remove it with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol. This will remove all or most of ink so that it will not show through. If the CD face has dark printing on it from the manufacturer, then you're up the creek or you'll have to print a dark colored label to try and cover it. --- All things considered, these labels are good and cheep. If you screwup on printing a label you won't feel too bad throwing it away.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy unless you plan on buying a new printer afterwards
I got these and was first disappointed to find that you need to purchase an applicator seperately.

I was planning on buying a new printer some time soon. But this product kind of pushed me to get one faster than my wallet wanted me to. THEY GOT stuck in my printer. I could not get it out, I couldn't use my printer AT ALL afterwards! Totally jammed the printer. I actually had to purchase a new printer after using these labels. I was not happy. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Works after you get past a small setback
I've been having problems with formatting these CDs with Easy CD Creator 4 so that it can write and erase like a hard drive or floppy disk using any Windows program. They seem to want to be formatted twice in order for them to work, which can be really annoying since it takes an average of 40-60 minutes to format them.

If you don't format them you can still use the rewrite feature through Easy CD Creator, but you would have to use its record program rather then just being able to use the CDs like a floppy disk by clicking save as and choosing your CD recorder drive. The only time that I have successfully formatted a CD in one try was on the very first one. Although, to be fair I haven't finished the whole pack yet.

Other then the need to be formatted twice, I don't have any complaints about it. They work fine and haven't cause any other problems. It could be my CD recorder or the program Easy CD Creator 4 that is causing the problem. I'm going to have to buy another brand and see the difference. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

This 100-pack of 4x DVD+R discs for newer DVD+R/+RW drives consists of write-once, single-sided discs that store up to 4.7 GB of data and approximately 120 minutes of DVD quality video--that's more than six times as much data as will fit on a recordable CD. You can transfer your home movies from VHS or 8mm cassettes, back-up computer hard drives and large files, or stuff them chock full of MP3 music files and JPEG image files from your digital camera.

The discs are backward-compatible with older, 2.4x DVD recorder drives through the use of a simple firmware upgrade for the drive in question, which you can downloaded at www.dvdrwservices.com. A one-year warranty protects you against defects in the near term, while the discs' rated archival life of 70 to 100 years means you can rest easy about the future of your data.

Special Note:If you currently own a 2.4x DVD+RW/+R Drive you must upgrade your firmware. 2.4x Write Speed DVD+RW/+R Drives sold by Memorex, Phillips, H/P, Verbatim, Sony and QPS require a drive firmware upgrade. Memorex 4x media is compliant with the new 4x write speed standards. Using the Memorex 4x Write Speed media with a 2.4x write speed DVD+RW/+R drive that has not had a firmware upgrade to support the new 4x write speed standards may result in writing errors, data retrievable failure and damage to the data on this disc. Please make sure to confirm whether your drive supports the new 4x write speed media before use.

5-0 out of 5 stars I have had good results so far.
When I first purchased a DVD writer, I bought whatever I could afford in the way of media. My first drive was an NEC 2.4X. I graduated to a KyperMedia 8X (Made by Cyberdrive).

I purchased 50 Phillips brand disks and ended up making 5 or 6 coasters. It may have been because of something in my computer that caused the problems. But whatever the reason, I have been buying and burning Memorex 4X DVDs since then with outstanding results. The only coasters that I made with Memorex were because my recorder defaulted to maximum speed (8X). If that means these disks are 8X capable, something is amiss because the three times that I did not notice this, I came away with coasters.

As far as recording movies, I record at 2.4X no matter what speed the recorder or disk is. It has been my experience that the slower you record, the better the disk. That goes for music CDs also.

So, to wrap it up, I have now used around 250 of the Memorex brand DVD-Rs (4X) and have only made three coasters (my fault).

I don't know about any DVD rot. I sure hope that it does not occur with my disks as I have many that can not be replaced. If anyone can figure out how to tell who the manufacturer is, please let us know.

Please forgive any typos. :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality, good price
The 25 spindle is also an excellent deal. I burned about thirty of these with, knock-knock-knock-narry a problem. Since my primary use is backing up mine and my daugther's DVD collection (at four she's just hell on them; and I've given to much money to Hi (Barney and the Wiggles) and Disney and Gullance (Thomas the Tank Engine!). So I have to make back ups for her use or the original, pressed disk will be toast in no time.

So, I burn full disks most of the time and I've yet to have any problems with them. Would highly reccomend the -Rs and CD-Rs as well. Although I believe

....sorry about that, DVDShrink was demanding a disk. It now uses NERO to burn CDs as well. I can usually have a complete copy in my hand in 45min and that's with my 4X Pioneer 106D.

Now, with an unexpected tax refund, it's time to upgrade to a serious burner. But whatever brand that happens to be, I know I'll still being using Memorex media.

5-0 out of 5 stars Writes at 8X with NO PROBLEMS...
These disks are GREAT at under a buck each you cant go wrong!!
I currently burn at 8X with these disks and have had no problems.
Great Value and Great Quality! :)

1-0 out of 5 stars Won't work for me.
These won't work in my Panasonic. The CD-RWs refused to work in either of our Dell Laptops. Shouldn't they say on the label what products they work in? I bought Memorex frequently for cassette and VHS tapes, but I'll never buy another Memorex product again. Too unreliable.

5-0 out of 5 stars no problems, great value
I've used more than 50% of the 100 Pack, and I've encountered no disk errors. I've recorded at 4X with both data and movie content and so far so good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome player
I got this as a returned item for cheaper from Sears, now before this I tried Cyberhome, and that experience was horrible, distorted picture, battery never lasted, the thing was made of plastic. What I like about this player is not only that it works, but it works well, its made of metal at least so it's solid, the picture quality is perfect, better even than cyberhome, sound quality is good also although the only way to control volume is by the rotator on the side, which I wish there were a way on the remote control. Everything else though is fine, The battery is the length of the player and securley hooks on to the back, adding a slight bit of weight, size, and heat to the system, however this battery lasts long, and unlike cyberhome you do not have to remove the battery everytime you use the ac or car adapter. Functionality is great. Wonderful for long road trips. Comes with ac adapter with a rather short cord, car adapter, battery, player, audio and sound inputs as well as a 90 day warranty although further warranties are availaible for purchase. All in all a great 7" portable dvd player from Mintek but marketed through Memorex. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality media from Memorex!
Check your DVD burner/drive, plus your DVD player for DVD+R compatibility before purchasing. If compatible, then purchase this DVD media. Memorex does an outstanding job of quality control, in my opinion. After buying over 50 blank DVD+R discs (which I use with a Sony DRX-510UL external DVD burner unit on Windows XP), I have no issues. Every disc was perfect; no coasters.

DVD+R permits one recording. If the disc screws up during the recording, that's it. It's an expensive coaster for your coffee table. If you need to erase/rewrite data onto your DVD, use DVD+RW discs by Memorex. (Also highly recommended.) Just be sure to check if your DVD drives can handle the format/media. (The manufacturers should have compatibility listings on their respective web sites.)

Three recommendations:

1.) Buy bulk to save $$. 10 discs is a good start; consider a bigger purchase to save $$ (if you need the discs).

2.) If you're confused about the DVD+R format (and other formats), do some research online to understand the pros and cons of DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW.

3.) Again, double-check that your DVD burner drive(s) *and* your DVD player(s) are compatible with the DVD+R format. Most new DVD players can handle DVD+R.

Memorex makes a great product with these DVD+R discs. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars not for car audio use
the original plan of use for these discs were to be used for an mp3 disc for my sony cd/mp3 cd player in my car. i have a high speed sony cd-rw drive (48x/24x/48x) and when mp3s are written on 16-24x on the cds, the music constantly skips. an ideal speed is 2x or 4x. i learned the hard way, but i have no problems saving some of my downloaded mpegs on these discs.

i think the other reviews saying that thses discs dont write past 16x are due to the fact that mabey they dont have an ultra speed cd-rw drive like i do. i have had no problems writing on 24x.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't let the 24X label fool you!
It does not work at 24X. I bought these to try to use my Mt. Rainier-enabled drive that supports rewriting at 24X so I can use these CDRWs like floppies. But they do not rewrite at 24X! Searching the forums on the web will reveal that these can only write at 16X and while this may be acceptable for some people who are willing to reduce the rewrite speed to 16X and not use the UDF packet writing, if you are like me and want to use packet writing, these disks are not for you. They will just cause headaches and lots of read / write failures. I've heard Verbatim brand ultra speed CDRWs work at 24X. While they do not have the 700mb version yet, sacrificing 50mb for a working disc is acceptable in my opinion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Work Great
These are the only CD-RW's I can create VCDs with AND run on my set-top DVD player (Sony SVP-S530D). Even the green boxes of Memorex don't work, but these consistently work great.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
These discs allow to be written at 16x only despite the claim of 16x to 24x "ultra speed". The CD writting software identified the manufacturer as INFODISK.

I purchased the disc pack to make VCDs. The discs proved unreliable for VideoCD. VCDs did not play on the same CD-RW drive (under WinXP), or in my consumer DVD player (where other brands work.) The VCDs played on Mac OSX using DLC (freeware VCD player) but the video was choppy and the player became unstable.

I am forced to give this Memorex product one star because zero is not an option. ... Read more
