1-0 out of 5 stars Big Printer Driver (Softward) Problems
I am unable to use my Lexmark printer because the driver software is apparently incompatible with my operating system, Windows XP.No help was forthcoming form customer support.I have updated the driver and associated software from the Lexmark website but the driver still crashes.I would stay away from Lexmark.

1-0 out of 5 stars you get what you pay for
It works fine, more or less, for printing text (never tried printing photos with it).But whatever money you save on the price of the printer you will pay back tenfold in ink catridges. This thing goes through ink at an unbelievable rate, and of course, Lexmark ink cartriges are among the most expensive (if not THE most expensive) of any brand.

It's all about cost-per-page with printers, at least any printer that gets regular use. This thing is the printer equivalent of a Hummer, only less cool.

3-0 out of 5 stars For what it is, agood product.
With the understanding that this is not supposed to be a top-of-the-line photo printer, nor is it intended for high volume use - does the job and does it quite well.I use mine to print greeting cards and promotional bookmarks. Its supplies are too expensive, and are used up too quickly, for me to print flyers and brochures. But it will handle 110-pound card stock that makes my laser printer jam, its output is vivid and fairly accurate (although skin tones can come out looking weird on occasion), and it's easy to change the cartridges.

Not a bad little printer if you just want to print a few greeting cards or documents in color, a few times a week.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Good and the Bad
I have really enjoyed the quality of this printer since I upgraded my motherboard and added Windows XP.I have had no problems with it and my digital images have been just awesome.

On the flip side this printer is a nightmare with Windows 98 SE.I experienced all the problems reported from other gripers...paper jams, driver errors, misfeeds, multi-page feeds, crooked pages, etc.I used to have to reboot my system to reactivate my printer. It was very frustrating. It cleared up immediately with my PC change. It was like night and day.Even print speed improved.

I think the biggest issue with this printer is OS compatibility.I also think that anyone who does digital imaging will be rapidly going through ink.I haven't found a printer yet that doesn't drain the ink resources when making photo prints.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Bang for the Buck
This printer is a great value.... my old Epson 600, and the Z32 is twice the speed and twice the resolution and it doesn't need to constantly clean the print head. This printer does an excellent job printing photos as well. The only problem I had was when I tried to print on special canvas paper (used for simulating oil paintings). This paper was a little too thick I think because the printer couldn't grab it properly and needed a little help from me (though thick paper like this is not listed in the types of paper this printer can handle - so the problem was really me trying to use this for the wrong application). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars OK!!!
This printer is ok i'am using it with a mac OS 9.2.2 sometimes it has computer problems but I fix them like
sometimes it says printer is busy. I bought it at Rite Aid
for $30 in the summer I had to get my computer upgraded
on MB's because I did not have enough.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy It!
Spend more money and get a real printer. Ink is expensive, picture quality so-so and it consistently fails to properly execute print jobs... partially printed documents happen far too often. This is easily the most frustrating to use inexpensive printer I have ever purchased. Never again! The only redeeming quality is the price, but only because I won't feel quite so bad when I stomp the miserable @#! into tiny pieces.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good buy.
It is an average printer and the above mentioned prices are just enough. There is nothing really special about it at all. Only advantage is that it works both with MAC and PC. One BIG problem is: the ink cartridges are very expensive, more expensive the printer itself. So it is not a good buy. I used to have one do not recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stay away! It's crap!
THE CARTRIDGES COST MORE THAN THE PRINTER ITSELF! Basically, Lexmark has decided to exploit the people who can't afford a printer that costs more than $30 by charging them more for the cartridges on average than any other brand of inkjet printer. It's a scam! Most of the time, you can't even find the black ink cartridges (I had to order it from an office supply store catalog) and I run out of ink about every month. For the amount of money I've spent on this piece of crap, I could have bought myself a good one!

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk
This printer is a piece of junk. The software with it sucks, the printer is slow, and the print quality is bad. The ink cartriges are expensive (they are worth more than the printer itself now!). The printer insists upon cutting off the last half inch of text or it prints in the wrong way. The ink cartrige get very bad life.

Beware this printer! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
I got one from HSN for $9.97. It is cheap. But even at that price, I don't think it is worth to buy. Compare to my i470D, it is much slower and quality is poor too. For stand quality, it takes about 2 and half minutes. For high quality, it takes around 7 minutes. For best quality, it takes around 15 minutes. There was little difference between high quality and best quality. Even when printed in best quality, the picture printed by this printer is still not as good as my i470D. It is darker than i470D. It will take about 3 minutes when using my i470D to print high quality picture.
If I can suggest, don't waste your money on this junk. I recommend Cannon because I used i470D and found the quality is very good. So go for Canon brand. My colleage tried HP. She said HP is good too.Hers is HP Photosmart 7660. I also got an HP Photosmart 7260. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm sure it is good and much better than the Lexmark p707.

2-0 out of 5 stars There are many better alternatives
Lexmark really tried -- they included the USB cord instead of shorting you, they included two standard ink cartridges (one black, one color) instead of giving you half-filled cartridges, and they priced it right.

Then they built it wrong. The black ink cartridge prints a slightly faint image, the color is useful only for office-type presentations (banding is prominent and the image is fuzzy if
you use it for a photograph, and the color reproduction is extremely poor) the machine is flimsy, loud, and far slower than the rated speed. The built-in photo slots don't work too well -- the transfer speed is not nearly as good as with a standard USB card reader, and the included software is clumsy and difficult.

My HP 930c is almost as fast, quieter, and though not billed as a 'photo printer' produces better images (and much better text) print. The way printers are improving, any time a 5 year old printer is better than a brand new one, you know there's something wrong. After rebates I only paid $15 for this, and it was so disappointing that I'd have sent it back if the cost of shipping weren't equal to the cost of the printer.

Short version -- it's just barely worth having if it's free.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bargain Printer For Digital Photography
I first want to clarify the quality star rating of 4 I gave to the P707. For value at this price point, this baby gets 5 stars, hands down. For print quality, maybe 3.5 stars. But let's keep it all in context - if you want the best quality print, you know you're going to have to shell out more than $76. At this price, this printer provides excellent value. The P707 has slots of Compact Flash I and II, SD, SM/MMC and Memory Stick. It has auto print head alignment and can determine what kind of paper you have in automatically. In order to get it's best print quality, you'll probably need Photoshop or some other high quality photo editing software. The included software doesn't hack it. Total bargain at this price point.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty cute printer!
I just got this printer several hours ago. It is really fantastic. The softwares are powerful(but I have to install their soft to run the printer, so not 5), the connection is easy and the card reader is really convinent. Compared with my past printer, it is smaller, lighter and more user-friendly. Esp. the card reader still works even the power is off, it is really a cool design. I would recommend this printer for every one.

Cons (why only 4 stars): have to install the software to run (many printers can run directly in Xp), the ink is expensive.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not impressed
I hardly ever write reviews but the other reviews for this product are really off the mark. The p707 it is a decent looking printer but the prints are relatively poor. I took an image of my newborn with an exceedingly high quality digital camera and printed a 4X6 at the highest quality on premium photo paper and I would be embarrassed to give the photo to anyone. The pinkish color is now grayish, the blues are slightly turquoise, the browns are slightly reddish, and the reds are accentuated. Each of these problems are relatively slight but in combination it makes for a pretty awful image.

A previous reviewer stated that there is a 100 page tray and no USB, my tray is much smaller and I have a USB cable. Another stated that this printer prints quality pictures really fast, this is false; this printer is slow. Yet another stated that there is absolutely zero noise, this is also false as I have a fan in my window blowing on high and I could still hear the printer. Even though I could hear the printer it is not loud. These reviewers were so far off, the only conclusion that I can draw is - it looks like the people at Lexmark have been rating their own products on their lunch hour again! (...) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect for text!
When the Epson Photo 820 (read the bad reviews; they're all true), instead of just using tons of ink when I cleaned the heads (needed often), started leaving streaks of black ink across the page, I tried to get some help from Epson's customer service. I found that a wasted effort. They must have known what the problem was (I've since figured it out from other Web sites), but refused to tell me other than to tell me to clean the heads or take it in for service. I remembered the wonderful little Lexmark that came with my iMac several years ago and how reliable it was, and I wound up buying this printer. It's wonderful! Fact is, I'm in school and don't print photos. I hate that Epson, which you can't run without both black and color inks, even if you just plan to print text. The Lexmark will run with just black ink. It does a wonderful job on text. If your primary need of a printer is text, you can't go wrong with this wonderful little printer.

5-0 out of 5 stars What can I say but "WOW"
First of all, I want everyone who reads this to know that this is my first review. I can say without prejudice that this is the BEST little printer I have ever owned. I started out this century with the much lesser version Z-11 which I paid almost twice as much for. While I still have that printer for the kids' computer, I would buy another one of the z-605's in a heartbeat should the z-11 quit on me. I won't even start to compare the two, but just to say the 605 is WAY better and easier to operate, from installing on the computer to installing the ink cartridges. And speaking of ink cartridges, you can just ignore the inane ramblings of :" ljrhodes " from 1/29/04. For replacement cartridges, shop the web or go to Staples for their own brand to save money. This printer is SO worth the money. As far as needing a black ink replacement, I don't know how much printing he does, but I've had my z-11 for going on 5 yrs now and have never once had to replace black. And we use it quite a bit for school and work. So there. Anyway, I hope this helps. The people who wrote in ahead of me certainly helped me decide. I got this printer when it was "on sale" for less than 50 bucks. Add to that free shipping, no tax and saving "half" again on the cable (less than $6) you simply can't beat it.

5-0 out of 5 stars So good we got another one
At my workplace, which it's a small office, we needed an emergency printer so we got this one. For 50 bucks we got more than we bargained for. It is extremely fast and very efficient. One week after we aquired this one another printer broke so It was a no brainer, cheap but extremely good product my boss got another one like this. Should any more printers break this will be the replacement. Why pay 100 when yuo can get such quality for half the price?

4-0 out of 5 stars Some people dont think before they write
Ive always found lexmark printers to be higher quality than the rest within the same price range, yes the cartridges are costlier, but they are the EASIEST to refill bar none, and not at all messy! just get a refill kit, you can fill a cartridge 7 times, no problem. As regard this being cheaper at walmart, add tax, and realise that amazon provide this with free shipping, plus get the USB cable with it while you order (for 3x cheaper than walmart)and you realise youve just said something real silly. The ideal printer for people that dont want instant pages shot out to them.
Great for the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars EASY QUALITY PRINTING!
I cannot speak for anyone else here, but I find this printer to be fantastic. Not only was I able to hook it all up and install the software easily, I was printing beautiful photos and text documents with my Word Perfect program within the hour. It was THAT simple. This comes with what at first seems like vague instructions on a folded large sheet. After staring at it for a few moments, I followed the pictures, inserted the cartridges, attached all the cables, applied software..and was all installed and working in less than half an hour. Since I am no whiz at this stuff, I was absolutely thrilled how easy this was to install and use, and I still am.

I find the colors to be quite crisp when printing a photo. The text is outstanding. You configure your colors and depth of saturation with a test sheet that you print when installing, and then choose what you consider the best. Maybe those who don't like the quality, did not do this process correctly, because I have no trouble at all with crisp clear text printing. On some color text, the color is slightly differing than what is offered on the screen, otherwise exceptional quality for the money spent.

I had gotten an HP Photosmart Printer and spent $200 before I returned and got this one. I spent so long installing that one, and it never worked for me. Like I said, I am no expert when it comes to this stuff. I ended up uninstalling the entire operation, and returning that for a full refund. For $150 LESS, I got this Lexmark Z605, and WOW, what a difference.

In my opinion, you CANNOT beat this printer for the money. Wonderful quality, ease of installation, dependability, and also easy to turn on and off, pause, and folds up nice and neat for small workstations with limited space. Mine sits ontop of my HP Pavillion PC and takes up little room. When I want to use it I just push one easy button, flip up the top of the paper feeder, and I am printing. Then just turn off with the same button. You also have the options of resuming printing after pausing, and loading paper as you go along from one page to another, or loading several pieces.

For simple quality printing needs, I highly recommend this printer. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Complete waste of money
I will never buy a Lexmark again. The printer software contains spyware that runs continuously in memory, phones home with usage information and crashes computer. The print quality is poor, it has never been able to produce true black text.Cartridges constantly dry up and are expensive.

4-0 out of 5 stars A solid, reliable printer.
I've been using this printer for two years now and it has seen me through the end of my undergraduate degree, printing photos, T-shirts and a host of other uses. I have not experienced even one failure with the hardware or the drivers and I plan on using this same printer for all my graduate projects.
I'm amazed at the people who claim that they go through an ink cartridge in one day! While Lexmark ink is a little pricey,(Hence the 4 star rating) the cartridges will last as long as any other on the market. If you manage to use one in a day you might want to consider a commercial grade printer not one designed for home or home office use.
Text is crisp and clear and images are excellent. I'm sure you can find a printer that will produce better results but probably not in this price range.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good printer for the average documents...
I bought this printer about a year ago and it has not failed me.It is durable and reliable for your normal every day printing.Changing the cartridges is a snap and the software makes it very easy for you to maintain your printer and see your print progress.

I gave this 3 stars only because with the high resolution photo quality printers out there now, this Lexmark just doesn't compare if that is the quality that you are looking for.It is also pretty slow to print color documents. For everyday printing, this printer is great! However, now that I need a printer that will print photo quality and faster prints, this printer has become obsolete to me.I will probably keep it around for my normal document prints.

If you are looking for high resolution and photo quality, try an Epson.Otherwise for students and families using a printer for your average document prints, this would do the trick!

2-0 out of 5 stars Close but No Cigar
This printer is not the top of the line HP printer. But it gets the job done.

The printer cartridges can be used up quickly and they are costly to replace. Look up 15M0120 for color and 12A1970 for black to see their current pricing. They were quite high when this review was written.

Also, the pages can get jammed or come out crooked easily due to the way the printer is designed. The right side of the paper is designed to load faster than the left. The printer uses an auto-fix way of adjusting that. Although, sometimes that does not work and your pages either get jammed or come out crooked, as stated above.

This printer is good at printing fast DRAFT quality prints, but draft quality is, what the name suggests, .... The normal printing quality is far better but it also takes far longer to print.

Overall, I would look around for a better printer, possibly an HP.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cartridges become defective easily
1.Printing quality is not as good as other color inkjet printers.
2. I have had to replace my color ink cartridge TWICE before they were used up, simply because the cartridge heads had become defective. One of the colors won't print properly or it prints with a dark line through each pass.I tried cleaning the cartridge per instructions offered by tech support, but no luck.If I wanted to print, I had to buy a new cartridge.
3.Recently, it simply died on me.It lost connection with my computer all of a sudden and was no longer recognized by my computer.I have reinstalled the software several times and checked the cables, but nothing worked.
4.Ink cartridges are used up quickly.I have spent more money on cartridges than I did on the printer in the one year I had it.

Given this dismal experience with the Z52 and its multiple cartridge problems, I would never buy another Lexmark product again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice for the Price
I saw this by chance and ended up getting it because the price was right and it had the "all in one" feature. I must say, that it has worked really great. The speed of scanning and printing is awesome. I've been able to scan and print photos for framing within 10 minutes, whereas on my HP it took about 30 minutes.

For the price, you get a good scan and printing that is fast and pretty true to what you scan. One caution, I was scanning without printing at first and the scanned image on screen looked too yellowish. I had a cow and had a not so pleasant experience trying to get a useable answer from Lexmark's online tech support. But once they suggested I print the image to show them and I did, I found that the image printed like what I'd scanned. It did not have the off color tints like the image did on the monitor.

Really, I've been surprised and now use it more than my HP. The copy function is cool, because you don't even have to have the computer turned on to use it. Copies are quick and you can adjust the ink levels to get it as light or dark as you want. Plus copies in color or B&W. I like the machine alot and I'm very glad I got it.

3-0 out of 5 stars no problems here
why i gave this printer 3 stars? 2 reasons... 1 i can't find the ink anywhere. 2 all of a sudden it's much cheaper than what i paid i just hate when that happens

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer for Great Price!
I needed a printer, but one that had several features altogether. The scanner, photocopy, and printing features are all great. The quality for printing can be adjusted accordingly especially for rough drafts to conserve ink for final prints. This is a great buy for buyers like myself looking for budget price and having many features all in one. Also the usb cable works fine, I saved about $13 with the included one. I've been using this printer for about two months and no problems whatsoever. Installation is a breeze just follow the manual and display menu. It even has a power save feature that can be adjusted accordingly. Great quality for great price. Of course I bought mine when it was $120 which was outstanding in comparison to almost buying the Lexmark X1150 with no usb cable for $100.

4-0 out of 5 stars An excellent all-in-one with just a flaw
First of all the amazon shipping service with UPS is amazing even the free shipping option. The installation process was extremely easy, and also the software installation. The software included is very good, and will help you a lot if you have ever scanned a picture. The OCR software is amazing; I tried it with a magazine which included charts and text and the program do it without any mistake.

The real problem is the design: The scanner is not horizontal, it has an inclination, so pictures and magazines are moved by gravity, changing its position in the scanner and twisting all around the scanner glass.

The printing quality is OK and the speed is awesome. So if you want to have a good printer with the option to copy or scan occasionally, this is a good deal for sure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great buy.
This printer was affordable, easy to set up, and prints great. I've done so much since I've bought it. I had never scanned images or printed photos before and it was a snap. I can't praise it enough. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Lexmark's X125 is a compact, self-contained multifunction device for your printing, scanning, and faxing needs, and most of your copying needs as well. The scanner uses a feed-through device instead of a flat bed, so pages pass through one-by-one. You can scan them into your PC or make copies in black-and-white or color without a PC. The X125 looks much like an enlarged fax machine, and indeed provides full fax facilities, including speed dial and memory storage for up to 70 numbers.

Paper feeds from a near-vertical tray at the rear to a long pullout tray at the front. Above this is a second (clip-on) tray that catches pages as they exit the scanning mechanism. The machine uses old-style, high-capacity cartridges, which are easy to fit and clip into place.

A two-line LCD eases setup by directing you to, for example, align the machine's print heads before installing the driver software. The bundle includes photo editing and OCR software as well as facilities for faxing. These utilities install easily, but the driver isn't as user-friendly as those typically supplied with the more consumer-oriented printers, lower in Lexmark's price range.

In our tests, printed output was generally good, with sharp black text and finely detailed color prints. Resolution is high at 2,400 dpi, but we could still see fine dots in areas of variable shading. The print times, particularly for text, were low, with a five-page text document printing in just over a minute. Photo printing, at the best quality, took nearly 3 minutes.

Color copies weren't that effective, losing definition and bleaching some colors, particularly magenta tones. While they would be okay for quick copies intended for personal use, they would probably not be appropriate for giving to customers.

As a multifunction device, the X125 is functional and well-designed. It has some restrictions, most noticeably an inability to scan from books or magazines because it is sheet-fed, but still provides printing, scanning, copying, and faxing in one compact device at a good price. --Simon Williams, Amazon.co.uk

1-0 out of 5 stars Requires too many ink cartridges
5 out of 10 print jobs are slanted, maybe because it grabs the paper so hard. I've invested a small fortune in ink cartridges alone. Never have seen a machine similar to this one require so many ink cartridges as this one does. When the message displays "change ink cartridge" you can't get anything else to work, so you're forced to buy more. I'll count my losses and buy a better machine.

2-0 out of 5 stars How hard is it to feed paper
I've had my Lexmark X125 for almost a year now. I'm now shopping for an HP. At least once every 50-100 sheets, the paper feed mechanizm goofs and I have to open up the printer and pull out scrunched paper. And the lines of text on all pages are slightly slanted due to the paper pulling mechanism being on the paper's left side.
The fax/copy feeder slot tries to feed as many sheets at the same time as it can. So to fax or copy a multi page document, I have to feed the sheets one at a time. What a pain.
Ok, one more complaint. This printer, when it grabs a new sheet of paper makes a startling loud noise that makes some people jump.
Pick another printer.

5-0 out of 5 stars After Xerox and Epson this is a dream
I've owned Xerox multi-function lasers and God knows how many Epson ink-jets. All I can say is that the unit has worked flawlessly from moment I set it up (took all of 3 mins.). I've had it about 6 months now. The quality of the color printing is superb. Unlike Epson units that seem to clog up and become useless hunks of color-glob spewing plastic junk if you let them sit idle for a few days without printing, the Lexmark prints perfect, crisp color pages every time - on demand. I will never buy another Epson and would gladly trade the 875DC I have for a single Lexmark ink cartridge!

1-0 out of 5 stars driver software doesn't work well, support is pathetic
I have been using this product for almost 2 weeks now. The main problem that I have is the driver software crashes, usually at least once per day. I reported the problem to Lexmark support and they claim that it is not a known issue. But when I search the web, I find that others are having the same problem (the driver puts a Lexmark "red diamond" in your system tray - when the software crashes, this red diamond turns into a "red X" and a reboot is required before the computer can print again). Also, the scanner/copier doesn't do too well with narrow items. I used to be able to make photocopies of checks for example, with my HP. Making photocopies of anything small is very difficult with the Lexmark x125. ... Read more
