Works flawlessly
I have had this labeller for several years, and never had the label tape bind up. The unit is easy to use--hitting the function keys allows you to change print size, and there is a cutter on the side to dispense the label when printed. The previous entry stays on the screen for printing multiple copies. It's a useful device for labeling food bags in the freezer, making file folder labels, and any number of things that I used to label with the old embossing type label tape. The batteries seem to last plenty long (it takes AA's.) No complaints here, priceworthy and works well.

Labels, Labels, Labels
I'm no Felix Unger. But with my PT-65 sometimes I feel like him. Let me first say that I've had mine for over 1 year, and I love it. I started out doing the usuall labeling CD's, Video tapes, spice rack...um... I mean nail bin. Now I label every thing. I even labeled my labeler. It sounds strange at first, but some of the functions are not so easy to find with out labels.... i.e. Sym (symbol)(a button) and the letter D give you a choice of "+x=%"etc. Without labeling my labeler it would be hard to find ...say the "#" symbol. Also I printed one strip with each of the 5 type sizes. Here are some of the uses I've found... "change Oil at 92,350 miles", "Furnace replacement filter part # 12345", "school folders", " 2 1/2" Gal. screws". I need to get a life!

Had to replace it twice
The first machine I had would print in only one size. I had it replaced, and the second machine has the same problem.

Just About Perfect
As a computer guy, I can just about go insane managing hundreds of machines, have to remember the machines assigned name off the top of my head can be a pain, that's where this labeler came in, I fell in love with this labeler for labeling computers at my last job, now I bought one for myself, and my current job.

Like some of the previous reviewers said, the basic interface is very easy to use. There are a nice selection of labels (the only one I wish they had was black on clear) available at most retailers.

I only have a couple of nitpick issues with the label, first for the advanced features that typesets there isn't much explanation, you just have to experiment. And second there is too much excess on the labels, I often have to cut them down to get the label to fit in some of the tight spots that I want to use them.

Excellent tool.
This little baby works great for labeling just about anything. The interface is intuitive and easy to use, the print options are pretty good for an inexpensive machine, and print quality is superb. The only thing keeping this from garnering 5 stars is the printed label backing. A few problems
I just purchased this product. In the instruction manual, it states that only the Brother AC adapter should be used and any other will invalidate the warranty. Why is it that only a Brother adapter can be used when AC adapters are supposed to be standard? A tactic to increase sales? The adapter itself costs an additional 15 to 20 dollars. In addition, I agree with some of the other reviewers that a significant amount of label is wasted with each printing due to the empty space on either side that must be cut off. The 2 line printing does look very nice. I have not used many of the other features and so cannot comment on those.

A must have!
Once you have one, you'll find more uses for it than you ever dreamed possible! I use mine constantly. I wish I had bought one YEARS ago. Works great!

Nice, but...
I really like everything about it, except one big thing. It wastes a lot of blank label with each print. The replacement labels are costly and it leaves me wondering if Brother designed it that way to boost sales of replacement label cartridges. I am always cutting off the excess and wondering how much money is going down the drain each time.

Fine except that you have to trim your own lablels
I like everything about this product except for one thing: unless you're happy with a margin of about two inches on each side of the text, you have to cut each label by hand. It does offer narrow margin options, but when you use this option, you just get a dotted line on one side that you have trim along. What a pain!

Glad I Invested In It
I will be using my unit for home purposes and so I was at first reluctant to shell-out the money for it but am now very glad I did. Like a lot of electronic items these days, it has bells and whistles I will never use but..... It has bells and whistles other units DON'T have that I WILL use. I'll use mine as a stand alone unit for it has enough Font, Size, Sytle and Width choices to suit my needs and wants now and for the forseeable future. I haven't loaded the software for computer use and I can only imagine the miriad of choices and functions this little machine offers. The carrying case is great for storing the unit safe and sound out of the way when done using it. To me, the little "stick" that came with the unit to separate the tape backing from the tape itself, is one of the greatest "I-wish-I-would-of-thought-of-it" items I've seen in a long time. Excellent Contractor's Tool
My dad recently bought one of these and he absolutely loves it. As an electrician, it is a very useful tool for him, ideal for labeling wires and boxes in his truck. Battery powered, it's always handy and even has a label peeler implement so guys and gals with short nails can easily peel the label from its back! The only problem is, since he loves it so much he doesn't want to take it to work for fear of damaging it!

A very useful machine
This Model offers a lot for your buck. It allows 6 lines of text, so you can print multi-line address labels. It connects to your PC, allowing you to micro-manage your label layout. My only complaint is about 1 in 50 labels have to be reprinted because there are lines in the text. Although it happens very infrequently, it prevents me from giving this product 5 Stars. Nice machine, but the software sucks
Brother P-Touch labeling system are notorious for wasting expensive marking tape, just read any of the reviews. The lable maker performs as execpted. The problem is the Editor. I have downloaded the lastest version and it still sucks. The editor is is what keeps it from being a serious industral tool. It has all sorts of cutise, but worthless templets and clip art. Two features the Editor needs is a search and replace, and a seral numbering system. When I have several hundred lables to make,it is eaiser to use a Handimark with its seral keys than to use the PT. I give it 2 stars and the Editor 0 stars. If it has those features, they must be well hidden,

Won't Work on Windows 2000 Professional
Upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional and the printer will not work. Spoke with Brother and they told me it was a Windows 2000 problem, that nothing was wrong with their software, then have thousands installed . . . Brother's Customer Service would not take a "Problem Report" and could offer no advise . . . just it's Windows 2000 fault . . . sorry, this is a wrong answer.

I loved it at first, but it failed me
Although the software was a bit klunky I loved this printer. It's no more wasteful of tape than others (which is still too much, I agree) and I was thrilled to be able to compose labels from my keyboard.

Sadly, when I upgraded to Mac OS X 10.3 something went awry and the printer now prints only blank labels. I emailed Brother about this in early November, 2003, and was told that the problem is that Mac OS X changes a lot in each release and they keep finding their driver doesn't work anymore. No idea when it will be fixed; I just checked and there are still no updated drivers available on their website. They can't be trying very hard; I don't know of any other printer having this problem.

So, this is a great product unless you run OS X! Since odds are that even if they get it fixed, when 10.4 comes out it will happen all over again.... :(

Brother P-Touch 1500PC Labeling System
Packaging required "industrial strength" tool to remove the product. Interface is awkward. I was required to find a file on the installation CD to set it up. It has no drop down menues. You have to right click at the right place. It's confusing at first. The printed manual that comes with it is in very small print. Every label uses up extra tape that has to be cut off. It's wasteful. In the end, it prints lables fine, but it could have had better desinged software. A good product but not at all an outstanding one.

Borrow my secretary, but not my P-Touch printer!
When I came to my latest company, rather than having an almost-dedicated secretary, I found that I had to share her with twenty-five other people. Needless to say, asking her to prepare things like file folder labels (for both manila and Pendaflex files) quickly went out the window.

Luckily I found the P-Touch printer. It handles a wide variety of tape sizes, and prints up to five lines of type. I use it to print identification labels for all of my electronic gadgets (in case I lose them), and contents labels (on boxes) for the prototypes I file into storage.

M overwhelming #1 usage, though, is printing file folder labels. I use the 3/4" (18mm) size, black type on white. The labels make my files look professional and organized. And they only take seconds each to create. I wouldn't dream of making file folder labels any other way.

I use my P-Touch almost daily.

And what's the funniest thing? My secretary borrows my P-Touch to make file folder labels for everyone else in our department!

Do I feel slighted that my administrative assistant makes labels for them -- and not for me? Not in the least. Sharing a secretary is something I've learned not to mind.

But I do wish, though -- that my colleagues would get their own P-Touch printer!
