5-0 out of 5 stars awesome cd player and spify color
hey, i'm only 12, but i know plenty bout cd players. this is my first cd player, it kicks (in a good way), it plays CD-Rs which is pretty cool...cuz all the other ones that are this price dont. it hardly ever skips even on the biggest bUmPs on the road, and when on that rare occaision when it does, it skips for a second then plays again super smoothly. it has super handy buttons like 'hold', which u use when u have a 'press-a-random-button-happy' friend. the pause and resume button is awesome. u can program it so it wont play songs u dont wanna hear and it has a shuffle button if u dont wanna hear the all the songs in order. the best part is the clear blue lid (everyones fav, u cant hate blue, right?)the only bad thing is the head phones, which are fragile...i'm scared to brake them, so i dont use them. i think u should get a new pair, if u wanna get the cd player...which i totaly suggest. the price is low for its HIGH high quality. so...what are ya waiting for...HURRY UP AND GET IT!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great price but not all it's hyped up to be
I was looking for a CD player to take to the gym. After reading nearly everyone's reviews of this product, I thought I had found the perfectly-priced item. This is a great-looking and great-sounding player, but there are some drawbacks: 1) It takes 40 seconds to load the anti-skip function, and once it's loaded, you can't so much as skip a song, then you have to re-load. 2) Since I'm using this at the gym I use the anti-skip function most of the time, and it appears that is the main reason for short battery life-- I've gone through 3 sets of batteries in about 2 weeks. 3) The anti-skip function just isn't fool-proof. Even when the player is snuggly in my neoprene waist-pack (and I'm not usually wearing the waist pack, but hanging it over the bar of the treadmill, etc.), the vibration from the equipment causes the player to skip, just long enough to get annoying. Sure, I can stand in one place and shake the player all I want, and it won't skip, but this doesn't seem to hold true in real-life situations. But, one must consider the price. You can spend 3x as much for a Sony or Panasonic claiming the same anti-skip features, and probably not get any better of a product. Stick with this one.

2-0 out of 5 stars Okay...but...
I bought this cdplayer with carkit about a year ago and some months, summer of 2000. It worked great the first few months/weeks, but then the buttons just started going wierd on me, and not functioning correctly. Maybe there was a cross of information, because the back track button actually plays forward, and yeah...

And then about a week or so ago the thing just started skipping after 17secs worth of playing on any song/track.

Given, the cd player has lasted for so long, its a nice buy. But if youre looking for a long lasting investment, i suggest that you take your money else where. spend that extra buck and buy sony, or something.

3-0 out of 5 stars Think of it as a one-year rental
The player worked great for about a year. A few weeks ago the buttons started having a mind of their own: pressing 'forward' sometimes turns on 'repeat' or 'shuffle', pressing 'stop' usually makes it go back one track so I have to press stop four or five times before it actually stops. I had to replace the cassette adapter after a couple of months, but overall it has been worth the $30 for a year's use.

3-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware....
Beware if you purchase this product....you'll need to purchase another one pretty soon! Koss products do not last. I have to say...this one has superior sound quality and does not drain the battery too quickly....that is if the anti-skip is off. I bought this discman about a year ago...and 3 or 4 months ago it started acting up.....will not fast forward or rewind correctly within a track....will not go to the track you want it to go to....will sometimes shut off for no apparent reason. Sure, it's a good price...but I recommend investing your money in something better....Sony, Panasonic, etc. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great CD Player

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Player...not Great!
I like this player...it does work really well. It is very easy to use and the sound is pretty good. The reason that this player got a 3 rating is the effectivness of the battery power. This thing eats up batteries like you would not believe!!! The thing of it is...I dont use it that much. I think that if there was a player out there that offered better battery power...I would choose that one instead. A plus on this one, it does include an AC adapter. I will keep this player for as long as it works... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More than adequate for the price
I've owned this radio for nearly two years. Considering the low price, it performs admirably for my needs. I use for a couple of hours at a time, several times at week while working out and running. It is lightweight (doesn't pull down my running shorts) and the ear phones are comfortable. As for reception, I've been able to receive any local FM station I've tried, even in the basement of my health club. I'm ordering another because the beltclip has broken (because of my own clumsiness).

... but for less than [amount], it definitely meets my needs.

1-0 out of 5 stars Broke after 8 months
Bought radio in January, used approx. 2-4 times/month, and by September it was broken. I didn't manhandle it (in fact, I kept it in a small leather pouch to protect it), didn't drop it, bang it, or otherwise abuse it. Not quite sure what the problem it, but sound like the digital tuning is broken... after 5 minutes of use, it starts randomly scanning stations and then just settles on nothingness.
Recommend you save your money and spend it on a better brand.

1-0 out of 5 stars Main Problems: Background Hissing, Poor Reception
Here is a breakdown of my evaluation of this radio:

** Cons **

>> Performance
Here's the real gripe I have about this unit: the reception is very poor on some radio stations and a very noticeable background hissing can be heard when the volume is turned down low. These ought to be enough reasons for you to decide not to purchase this unit. But there's more.

>> Construction
The unit is also poorly constructed. I have owned it for almost two years and have been using it on my bus commute to and from work. Within this span of time, the plug for the head phone jack has come off, one of the buds of the earphones have ceased functioning, and the volume knob has gotten too easy to turn due to frequent use. The unit also gives the appearance of being constructed from cheap plastic. Further, the color of the back of the body is painted on so the paint rubs off over time.

>> Function
There are only five presets for each AM and FM band. Also, if you accidentally pressed the memory button, you could easily overwrite one of your presets. The only way that I have found to avoid overwriting any preset stations is to turn the unit off and then back on again.

** Pros **

The pros for this radio are not worth mentioning because the problems with this unit far outweigh any pros this unit has. But here they are for completeness sake:

>> Features
This radio has decent bass boost and station auto-scan. Both features are absent in many portable radios.

** Conclusion **

If I hadn't lost my receipt, I would most certainly have returned it to the store I purchased this it from. Although I use this radio on a regular basis, I have been very dissatisfied with it. I strongly advise you to pass this radio up for something else. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the best quality
I bought this CD player because it was reasonably priced but I probably would have been better off buying a portable cd player with am/fm raido with a headphone jack. When I left the anti-skip protection off, it skips at the slightest move. I also found that if I turned the anti-skip protection on, the sound quality isn't as good.

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS ONE!
I purchased this product just a few months ago and it's broken already. It was used at a desk with ear phones so it wasn't moved, bounced or anything you would expect a personal player to withstand. It skipped at the slightest bump and went through batteries like crazy.I now have a different CD player and would not recommend this to anyone.

3-0 out of 5 stars had some problems but good price
The skipping is terrible. But it's good if you just want to sit down and listen. Like maybe when you watch tv or go on the computer. If you move it, it will most likely skip. Another problem is that the headphones are never perfect.

If you can get used to that, then this would be a good cd player to buy and at a good price.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a piece of junk!
Recently, I went and bought this CD Player, i was going to geta ... Sony one but ended up with this one instead cuz' it was cheap u know? Well, this one I bought didn't even have antiskip protection at all! It skips whenever I go and it eat batteries like crazy! I had wasted over 10 batteries within a month. What a piece of junk! I don't think this product differs either so I recommend not buying it and get a better product. In fact, I just going to get a new CD Player from KOSS which I think will be better. This is not worth your time, and the cd players ugly too!

3-0 out of 5 stars Review of Koss cd player
This cd player is sold at a great price! It is a brand name cd player sold for under $30.00. It has 12 esp which is enough if you don't jog. The cd player has a cool design to. I would rate this a three because it doesn't have a very high amount of shock protection. Great Deal!!!! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

If you favor a sleek look, modest sound, lots of features, and a bargain price in your music machine, the Koss PC 68 CD boombox is a good bet. Tastefully designed in silver and black, this boombox has curvaceous lines, a disappearing handle, and nice metal grille.

Rap lovers will probably find the box's bass inadequate, even with the 7-watt superwoofer cranked to the max. But for playing wide-open pop, jazz, country, and folk, the PC 68's sound is reasonably detailed and natural. The bass is decently articulated; guitars, pianos, cymbals, and steel drums sound reasonably accurate; and saxes show some sass. With a good set of headphones, music on the Koss PC 68 sounds even better.

Running the show is a low-key exercise. Thanks to the well-designed (and color-coordinated) infrared remote control, you can skip across the digitally tuned AM/FM radio bands. In fact, you can program up to 20 station presets and access them via the unified up/down/search/skip toggle button on the remote. Other controls on the remote manipulate volume, switch the radio band between FM and AM, and instantly mute the sound.

A multitude of rubbery controls on the remote--duplicated on the face of the box--are dedicated to operating the top-loading CD player. Tap the Intro button, and the player automatically delivers just the first 10 seconds of each track on a CD. This feature is useful when you're searching for a particular song or want to quickly audition an unfamiliar disc.

The built-in tape deck, also top loading, lets you make custom-mixed tapes from CD or radio. The tape deck is basic--there's no Dolby noise reduction, auto-reverse, or remote-controllable operations--but it gets the job done. For best recording results, use a name-brand, normal-grade ferrous-oxide tape. More expensive varieties will actually sound poorer because the tape deck is equalized for Normal/Type I cassettes.

With a fair amount of metal on board and solid construction throughout, this Koss has more heft to it than other boomboxes in the same size range. When loaded up with eight D-cell batteries, it can seem a little heavy when you're lugging it around by the handle.

Pros:

  • Attractive design
  • Easy operation
  • Versatile CD, radio, and tape functions

Cons:

  • Not a lot of boom
  • Minimalist tape deck
  • Rather heavy for its size

5-0 out of 5 stars NOTHING BEATS A KOSS!
Love it, love it, love it. For your money, this CD boombox is at the top of the list. Over the years I have owned many Koss products, and several other brands that were a lot more expensive. Would I switch to another manufacturer - no way! Nothing beats a Koss for quality, sound and durability. No wonder it is difficult for retailers to keep this product in stock!

5-0 out of 5 stars Koss CD Boombox
I bought two of these for my 12 and 17 year old daughters, and they love them. The digital tuner with 10 AM and 10 FM presets lets them program in their favorite stations, and the remote then lets them channel surf from station to station avoiding commercials and looking for their favorite songs without having to sit next to the box and push buttons on it. Same is true for flipping around tracks on a CD with the remote. Nice sound for a unit in this price range.

4-0 out of 5 stars Koss=Quality
I own this player, Koss Headphones, and a set of Koss loudspeakers and love them all. Top quality and sound. The only gripe I have is one I have with ALL boomboxes. Loading doors on top. When are the designers going to figure out that the top, where they almost always place the loading doors, is where all the dust and dirt gather. Flat smooth top for cleaning and front load for keeping the inside clean. Please!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars works good -- a foible or two
Plays cds and mp3s just fine. The "hold" button is vital once play has started -- the buttons on the face-plate will activate if you are carrying it around, like in your pocket -- so play is easily interrupted, or the screen info will change in unexpected ways. If you don't turn it all the way off with two clicks of the "stop" button, the play will continue and the batteries will drain, resulting in a very unstable performance that will start play and stop after a few minutes -- annoying til you figure it out. I use this to play old time radio catalog radio shows, and the manual fails to explain that holding down the "next program" button will give you a fast-forward function. It's bare-bones, rattles a bit, but it plays good and the price is right. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fit for a church and more - A Solid Bargain
We needed at least one boom box for our Church Sunday School so that we could play tapes and CDs. After pursuing a donation of a used boom box from our congregation members - to no avail - I shopped the net and found what we needed. Thank You Amazon.com.

I have purchased several items from Amazon.com and have always been completely satisfied with pricing and deliveries.

Anyway - the boom box has a great room-filling sound level. The bass boost is a necessity since the non-boost bass sounds somewhat cheap. The bass boost does an excellent job on all sound reproduction, radio, tapes, and CDs.

The radio reception is very satisfactory.

To load a CD, you lift a lid. No push button mechanism to break. The CD needs to spin a short while to transfer the track information. Then you have all the typical controls - next track etc.

One bit of difficulty is that the tape controls are embossed into the case - same color as the case - and somewhat hard to see.

For occasional musical requirements - this is the inexpensive solution! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

With its sleek icy blue looks and lightweight construction, the KossCDP1740A portable CD player is a pleasure to use. If you're looking for arelatively inexpensive yet well-made and functional portable CD player, look nofurther.

In our tests, this Koss CD player performed very well. The digital bass boostsystem (DBBS) does a great job of kicking the bass frequencies up a bit, and itcan be switched to remain active at all times. The headphones are satisfactory, though they tend to distort a bit at high volumes.

Koss asserts that its new ASP antiskip protection provides 40 seconds of skip-freemusic. While the antiskip protection is very good, we found its reliabilitydepends on the amount of disturbance the unit receives. When we ran with theunit in our tests, it occasionally skipped but soon recovered. The button forthe antiskip protector is on the top of the unit, along with the other maincontrols (play, stop, fast-forward, rewind, program, and mode). Unlike the DBBSfunction, the antiskip function resets when the unit is opened or stopped.Wewould have preferred if this function remained activated until it was shut offmanually, so that we could stop a CD then resume playing with the antiskip stillonline.

The only other drawback we found with the CDP1740A is the lack of a resumefunction. That means that if you stop a disc, then hit the play button again, the CD will begin from the first track. That small annoyance aside, this Koss CDplayer is well made and fun to use. Though it does not have every function weideally like to see, it does offer good sound quality as well as many featuresusually found only in more expensive players. --David Lavin

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, But Missing Features
This CD player has a great weight and feel to it, and it look awsome to. It plays CD's super and has a very crisp sound. I got this to replace my Sony Discman, and with the replacement, There are some missing features that are hard to live without. This CD Player doesnt have a "resume" function that allows you to pick up off the place on the CD where you left off, and the biggest missing feature is a Battery Indicator, so you have absolutly no idea what condition your batteries are in. I will now be forced to take an extra pair of batteries with me wherever I go in case they go dead on me. But overall, its worth the money, and a good CD player! You can always trust Koss

5-0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get better than this!
Well, I purchased this cd player about a month ago. It's the best player I've ever heard. The headphones deliver the most crisp and clear sound I've ever heard. The buttons are easy to use and it absolutely WONT skip. The design is awesome. I was listening to it on the subway and this total stranger came up and started asking me all these questions about it because he thought it was so cool looking! It's a little flimsy, if you push the top up hard it will snap off, but it won't do that when its closed because it has a open switch. The other drawback is that it eats up batteries like crazy. I went through 8 batteries in 2 weeks! But the adapter is helpful and it's all worth it! ...If you want a great cd player at an unbeatable price, you've found it!

3-0 out of 5 stars An OK player that has some flaws...
I bought this player a long time ago; it served me well but there were a few noticable flaws. Cheap headphones broke rather too soon. The most frastrating, however, is trying to forward the tracks (FF button activates programming mode) and turn the player off without taking the CD out (double cliking the stop button turns the player off about one it ten attempts). The batteries also are used up rather quickly. If you use it sparingly, it will do, but if you are a hardcore music lover - settle for something more expensive.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
Wow, I see since I bought this unit there have been lots of people with the same troubles I had. I will simply add to the chorus of voices who have said:

1) Eats batteries like mad.
2) Within about a month of buying the unit the buttons stopped working properly. The reverse button advanced tracks, stop would often switch modes, etc. ABSOLUTELY FRUSTRATING
3) The anti-skip protection did not work very well. I got nothign like 40 seconds out of the skip protection and this is just holding the unit flat while walking at a moderate pace.

I was extremely dissapointed with this player. Mine finally just stoppped working one day...

2-0 out of 5 stars Cool looks, doesnt work tho...
I bought this same CD player a couple of years ago but I found out that was a big mistake. It started out working really well, and i thought all the negative reviews were wrong. Then after about a week the headphones just snapped as i went to put them on... That's not too big a deal cuz I had others, but about a week later all the buttons got messed up. For example the FF RW buttons switched jobs and so did others. It was really confusing and made it impossible to do anything other than just let the CD play, altho it somehow got put in a random order and the thing to stop that broke. A couple days later, the thing just quit. I tried new batteries but they didnt help. I never dropped it or anything... If u can cough up 15 more dollars buy the cool Cd, CD-R, CD-RW, mp3 thing the have on the site. ... Read more
