Amazon.com Product Description

The compact, affordable CDP-3100 not only plays MP3 files burned to CD, but also mixed-mode CDs containing a combination of MP3 files and standard (PCM) CD tracks. You'll enjoy forty-five seconds of anti-skip coverage for music tracks and up to 120 seconds of coverage for MP3 files. Playback options include MP3 and CD track programming, as well as random and repeat (single track, all tracks). An auxiliary output lets you hook the player up to your home system through a stereo Y interconnect (not supplied).

The six-line text and numeric LCD simplifies file maintenance and offers scrolling text so you can read the full artist name and song title. The player supports MP3 bit rates of 32, 64, 96, 128, 192, and 256 Kbps, as well as variable bit-rate recordings (MP3 format ISO 9660). A hold switch prevents unintended interruptions in playback and saves batteries by negating playback when the player is stopped. Dynamic bass boost system (DBBS) heightens the impact of low frequencies. The player runs on two AA batteries (not supplied) and includes an AC power adapter.

4-0 out of 5 stars awesome bargain
I purchased this product on sale at my local Target last month. So far I've had three problems, 1) I dropped it three times from a distance of about three feet and while it continued to play (awesome bufferring and anti skip) for several seconds the disc did suffer some damage as it came free within the device and became severely gouged as it continued to spin. 2) another issue is that it wont recognize more than 93 mp3 files per disc, the manual says that it supports 99 tracks per album, but i haven't had success yet in burning a cd-r with the multiple albums that the player can recognize. 3) I only use this device with the power adapter that came with the device (a big plus), but I did use Energizer Titanium batteries just to test it and it ate them up with in 6 hours of use. I thought that was rather too quick for my taste. The great features include 1)the right price, 2)compact design, 3)ease of operation, 4)nice packaging(comes with fair quality headphones, i do recommend upgrading though, and a AC power adapter), other features include a hold switch(temporarily disables buttons), a DBBS switch (extra bass), a line out port, and the usual programming options. I recommend this product at the right price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice
This is a great entry-level MP3/CD Player. ...The Koss doesn't have the flashy case or the large LCD screen, but I still like it better than the Expanium. It is much simpler to use, and it has better battery life as well (the Expanium has only 10 hours). It is also noticeably lighter and thinner than the Expanium, which is also a big plus. It has a slower boot time (the time it takes from when you turn the player on until when the music starts to play) than the Expanium, but there is almost no delay what-so-ever between tracks. ...I have had no trouble at all with any of my burned cds; they all play fine. As for the "electronics fan from New Jersey", he needs some serious help if he can't make an MP3 cd correctly. It is a totally no-brainer process, so don't believe what he says. I only have had two problem this CD player. 1) that if there are any long, noticeable scratches on the CD, the player will sometimes misread these and suddenly go from 3:23 on track 5 to 3:24 on track 6; but that rarely happens. and 2) it cannot read ID3 tags (song name, artist, and album information). However, all in all, this is a great MP3/CD player, and the price is right.

3-0 out of 5 stars It does work...
I got this little MP3 CD player when it went on a great sale because my old CD player was five or more years old and didn't really work. I never listen to my CDs anymore, but I was going on a long plane ride/bus trip so I needed something to listen to.

There are skips, some songs that it will refuse to play, and doesn't work too well upside down. Mine had a tendancy to just turn off for no apparent reason, even if it had fresh batteries and the buttons locked. Oh, and the locker is cheap. It kept un-locking and then the player would turn on and run the batteries dry.

Not a huge problem and served me well on my trip. It's now gathering dust and will probably get chucked next time I trip over it.

Great for trips/children who break things/people who want a cheap MP3 CD player. NOT great for music conesueirs or people who move a lot. Whether it is for you, I don't know.

1-0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY THIS! IT SUCKS1
DONT BUY THIS...

NOW it wont even see my mp3 cds. it just searches for like 10 minutes and then it says no cd.DONT BUY THIS BECAUSE IT IS CHEAP ...!IT HAS POOR SOUND QUALITY AND LIKES TO QUAKE AND STOP WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SONG!!!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissatisfied!
I purchased this headset radio ... about two years ago. ... I used it solely at sporting events. I take care of my electronic equipment and do not abuse them. At first this radio headset was great but soon it was practically useless. First, when I changed batteries the plastic latch that holds the batteries in place would not properly close which would make the radio non-fuctional. This started happening shortly after the warranty was up. I called Koss [no] service department and was told that they would repair it for what I thought to be an exorbitant amount(over $20). Finally I was able to fool with the latch so it would kind of hold the batteies in place but the latch would continue to come loose causing the radio not to play. Then, the radio would make a loud squeaking noise and cut in and out. Also, the green warning light would come on to indicate that my batteries were low. This would occur right after putting in new batteries!

I would not recommend buying this headset radio. For what I paid for it the quality of workmanship left a lot to be desired. I have been very disappointed with Koss and will buy other brands in the future.

4-0 out of 5 stars One worked, one didn't
I had a KOSS HR 110Y earphone radio for almost two years, and I thought it was great. I took it with me to the YMCA to exercise three times a week. I liked it because: (1) it was completely on top of my head, with no cord down to my arm or belt to interfere with exercising; and (2) it has five buttons for pre-set stations, so I could change stations quickly. It worked very well, and it held up to quite a bit of getting banged around as I took it back and forth to the Y in my gym bag. Finally, after almost two years of regular use, it got broken. I had another identical one that had been sitting new and unused in the original package for about eight months. I tried that one, and it stopped working the first time I used it. Then, when I was trying to see if there was any way to make it work, I dropped it a short way onto a carpeted floor, and the door to the battery compartment broke off, so it was totally junk. Because I had already owned it for eight months, I didn't try to return it. I would be willing to take a chance and buy a third one, hoping it would be good like the first one and not bad like the second. But I can't find them for sale in any physical store, and even on-line, I can only find them offered for sale by one individual who claims to have a supply of them. I wonder if KOSS still makes them, if not, why?

1-0 out of 5 stars Bummed out sound
My wife bought this item for my birthday and I loved it for a couple weeks or so. Then, the headphones began to pick up a very loud static ring after 30 minutes or so of use. Gradually it became more frequent until they became unusable. (Yes, I tried new batteries.)

Unfortunately, because my wife bought them two months before my birthday they AREN'T COVERED BY THE 90 DAY (who would believe that) WARRANTY!

5-0 out of 5 stars Finest Product On Market For Walking & Learning!
This product can change your life. Listening to the radio while walking can increase your health and wealth. The Koss 110Y Radio AM/FM makes it easy to walk or jog or ride a bike anywhere.

I went to many stores and could not find this product. I bought a competitors but it does not have the range of reception. It also does not have the easy push button and band changes like Koss.

Koss also stands behind all of their products with good warranties. I dropped my Headphones on concrete and I just sent them back to Koss who replaced it at little costs.

You will never regret buying this product and you will increase your walking by miles by using it. When you put on National Public Radio at 5AM to 9AM and Howard Stern or Imus, you can switch easily between AM and FM. In the afternoon, National Public Radio from 3 PM to 7 PM is a great source of getting real news, plus interesting stories and following the economic market.

Walking and learning is made easy by Koss. I have one in my car to use when I travel and one at my homes when I am there to walk. It is a great device to use at Airports while waiting for planes, trains and in lines.

Do not waste your time in looking for another product. This Koss product is the best on the market at a great price on [online store].

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Sound
This product has superior sound quality, especiallly for this type of unit. The reception is very good, as well. Overall, I am completely satisfied with this product. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good radio for the money
I'm glad I purchased this product. I use it while walking to and from my van pool meeting place each day and it works great. When the second set of headphones for my little Radio Shack am/fm radio went out, I decided to purchase the Koss. The price for the Koss was equivalent to what I paid for the Radio Shack and not far from what a decent pair of new headphones would cost. The sound and reception is better than what I had and the digital tuning makes it easy to find and switch between stations.

It was a little difficult to use the first few days in the darkness before sunrise, but now that I'm familiar with the buttons it's not a problem to change the volume, switch station presets or find new stations. It would be nice if the display was illuminated but that would just use more battery power.

Also, it seems to be pretty substantial in construction. All in all, a good radio for a reasonable amount of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Glad I ignored most of these reviews
I almost didn't buy this radio after reading the reviews about poor reception. Saw it at a local store and decided to give it a try anyway since I liked the price and styling compared to all the others. I use the radio mostly inside (in my basement for treadmill workouts), and have found that the reception and sound quality are excellent. No problems with receiving stations or static during movement, and even AM comes in loud and clear--in fact, better than on any other radio in my home. I'm curious why people have had such poor luck with this unit. Thought I should put in my 2 cents worth and let you know that it works great here in Salt Lake. I love this thing! Buy it from Amazon and save yourself a few bucks....

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money on this el cheapo radio!
I thought that this would be a good unit for the hour I spend at the gym 3 times per week, but here we are one month later, and the thing has quit working on me. I have never dropped it or gotten it wet -- go figure. The phrase "You get what you pay for" comes to mind. I'm gonna go buy a Sony.

1-0 out of 5 stars Major Problems: Poor Reception, Background Hissing
Here is a breakdown of my evaluation of this radio:
** Cons **
>> Performance
Here's the real gripe I have about this unit: the reception is very poor on some radio stations and a very noticeable background hissing can be heard when the volume is turned down low. These ought to be enough reasons for you to decide not to purchase this unit. But there's more.
>> Construction
The unit is also poorly constructed. I have owned it for almost two years and have been using it on my bus commute to and from work. Within this span of time, the plug for the head phone jack has come off, one of the buds of the earphones have ceased functioning, and the volume knob has gotten too easy to turn due to frequent use. The unit also gives the appearance of being constructed from cheap plastic. Further, the color of the back of the body is painted on so the paint rubs off over time.
>> Function
There are only five presets for each AM and FM band. Also, if you accidentally pressed the memory button, you could easily overwrite one of your presets. The only way that I have found to avoid overwriting any preset stations is to turn the unit off and then back on again.
** Pros **
The pros for this radio are not worth mentioning because the problems with this unit far outweigh any pros this unit has. But here they are for completeness sake:
>> Features
This radio has decent bass boost and station auto-scan. Both features are absent in many portable radios.
** Conclusion **
If I hadn't lost my receipt, I would most certainly have returned it to the store I purchased this it from. Although I use this radio on a regular basis, I have been very dissatisfied with it. I strongly advise you to pass this radio up for something else.

2-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money
The reception is poor, the number of stations is small, and the ear-pieces aren't that comfortable. Might as well pay twice as much for a [money] no-skip CD-player, or [money] for a radio reciever that actually transmits. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good player, could still use improvement on file access
I've had my player for a little over a month now, and I am largely impressed. It plays CDRs, CDRWs and pre-recorded CDs all quite well, and the sounsd quality is exceptional. Finally I have something to listen to MP3s in my home with some decent quality without being anchored to my computer.

My initial shock was the size of the system - the central section shown in the illustration is not much smaller than a 15" monitor. As such, it does not fit on most bookshelves easily. Have someplace where you have a good 18" of depth available for the unit and all the speaker connections.

For MP3 recorded disks, read time is slow, sometimes up to 80 seconds. This is especially frustrating when you go to play the same disk a day later and have to wait again - you'd think the machine would remember.

The scrolling display indicates song title, and allows you to browse the other ID3 information fairly easily. However the display of any of these indicators appears to be limited to 16 characters, which often makes the feature largely useless, especially as the norm I've experienced is to reserve 5 characters of the title for the track number (i.e. "01 - track"). As many of the CDs I've burnt to MP3 are compilations, it would be nice to have a continuous scrolling track number/artist/title display a la Winamp, limited to at least 64 characters. Similarly it would be nice to be able to see the full Artist/CD Title info without the display cutting it off. That would be my ideal. Again, more on-board memory would help with this.

My biggest complaint, though, is with the tuner. It is simply not possible to manually tune a station without the remote. This is thoroughly inexcusable, and makes the egregiously ill-thought assumption that the remote is used regularly. A remote for a shelf system is almost as useless as one for a car stereo.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great System, Could Use Better Speakers
I love this system! It's feature packed and looks great where ever you put it. I bought it mostly because I wanted a system that could play my MP3 cds as well as my purchased ones. It's great not having to use my computer to play loads of (my favorite) music on one disc. There is one thing I would like to point out, that the speakers are not as great as they could be. To tell you the truth, my computer speakers are better sounding than these (but then again, my pc speakers did cost me an extra $400. Klipsch Promedia 5.1 :-P ) and so I ended up using those speakers in place of the original Koss ones. Besides one drawback, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a system with MP3 playback capabilities for their home entertainment purposes. Otherwise, just get a portable cd-mp3 player and plug it into a powerful speaker system. ... Read more

I bought this for my kitchen. I was mainly interested in the casette player for books-on-tape and in getting one far away, not-easy-to-receive FM station. To my pleasure it got the station, and the sound is better than I had expected from the price. The one thing I don't like is that I have to hang on to the radio when I push the buttons for the cassette player, or it moves all over the place. However, I'm not sorry I bought it. ... Read more

Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

The player handles most standard disc formats, including CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 CD, WMA CD, DVD-R/-RW, and DVD+R/+RW--terrific for enjoying homemade DVDs from family and friends. Dolby Digital and DTS surround passthrough (from a choice of two digital-audio outputs, one optical and one coaxial) as well as Dolby Digital decoding--all of which put you in the jungle with the dinosaurs and in the concert hall with music videos, when hooked up with compatible receivers and multi-channel speaker systems. Dolby decoding lets you use the player with older audio/video receivers that offer 5.1-channel analog inputs but no onboard surround processing.

Other features include five-disc resume play (which lets you restart discs from your previous stopping points), parental locking, a vacuum fluorescent display (VFDs are self-lighting, unlike LCDs, requiring no backlight), and a full-function remote control that lets you manage the proceedings from a favorite spot on the couch.

3-0 out of 5 stars KOSS DVD PLAYERS
DON'T BUY IT! I bought a KOSS DVD player and it broke in 6 months. I was told I was out of luck because the warranty is only 90 days. They do not do repairs. My only option is to buy a new one and wasn't even offered a discounted price for it. I have seen several complaints like mine about KOSS on the web. They make JUNK and they make it to last just to get past the warranty period and then it breaks. Oh, by the way I loved it until it broke.

2-0 out of 5 stars Progressive scan
The progressive scan is software configured ( through the remote) and only works through the component video output section of the player. It will not run through the s-video output. If you wish to use it as a regular player through the s-video then it's ok but you may wish to pay the extra bucks for one that outputs to a variety of outputs. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent portable CD player with superb sound
With 40 second anti-skip protection, dynamic bass boost, extended battery life, and shock protection this is a fully-featured portable CD player. Then add a high degree of programming flexibility. You can program up to 24 tracks to play in any order and with any number of repeats. With an appropriate adapter, it works well in a car -- even my bouncy old Toyota Tacoma truck didn't faze it. Jogging, walking, and riding the exercise bike also don't bother it -- I've never made it skip. (Although that may say more about my lax exercise habits than the Koss!!) The headphones that come with it are fine, but I swapped them out for Koss' noise reducing headphones. I travel a lot by plane and those headphones block out most noise. The sound is great. Not surprisingly, it is optimized for rock -- classical doesn't work as well. You lose some of the high end of the orchestra. Battery life is surprisingly long. Highly recommended. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Player...not Great!
I like this player...it does work really well. It is very easy to use and the sound is pretty good. The reason that this player got a 3 rating is the effectivness of the battery power. This thing eats up batteries like you would not believe!!! The thing of it is...I dont use it that much. I think that if there was a player out there that offered better battery power...I would choose that one instead. A plus on this one, it does include an AC adapter. I will keep this player for as long as it works... ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Ehh could be better
I bought a Koss cd player a while ago at Tower, and so far it's my second one. The sound is cool, and I love the anti-skip button, but the whole player breaks down after about a year. The one I have now is just starting to go, and it's pissing me off so much. The only reason why I had bought it a second time was cuz no other player had an anti-skip button on it. This is definitely my last Koss, so if I were you, I'd save my 50 bucks to get something that lasts longer.

3-0 out of 5 stars i liked it!!
well I would never give it to a 5 year old because ofcourse something like dropping it is bound to happen. But weither or not it is touchy in the "breakable" department, it is great for cars! The anti-skip is great and it has a resume button. Not to mention the coler is great!! So it may not be great for the little ones or if you plan to go jogging with it, it's great to use in the car, studing, reading, or just hanging out! Not prefect, but not half bad.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hello Koss Customer Service!
I bought this for my 5 1/2 year old son, who loves music, purple and anything technical. You might say 5, way to young, but here's the story ... He was listening to a CD, by the way he loved the color, and the player dropped out of his hands breaking the top. Lots of tears, it was a christmas present, this happened on New years eve. I called Koss, told them he dropped it, WELL, the response was not good. They said that he voided any warranty by dropping it. Anyone could have dropped it, it's not like he slammed dunked it across the kitchen floor. They further said, mail it back with all accessories and for forty more dollars (check included),we will send a new one. I said, "The player is the only thing broken, can't I just get it replaced?" The answer was no. I then asked, "Since I have to pay full price, can't you just mail a new one, without me sending it back?" Again the answer was no. Now I know he dropped it, and maybe I shouldn't expect anything, but there was no I'm sorry it broke, no what can I do to have this customer buy an another Koss product. Sorry I won't. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars I love the cd player... not the whole package...
I have read many reviews of this cd player and thought why not and bought it.. then I thought the worst reviews were true when I tried playing a cd and it sounded like crap... Then I tried different stuff, and finnally, I took off the headphones(which are uncomfortable for me, but they do look cool), and I put in a pair of sonys, and it sounded perfect... The headphones seem like they disort the sound when people are singing..the music sounds great but the singing gets a weird sound as if they are singing in a large parking garage and having alot of echoing... The only other problem I found was the slot for the adapter... It doesnt go in all the way, but it still works fine. It just seems odd.. Other than those couple things, its a great cdplayer. Just buy some other headphones.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Look Back
So I thought this was a pretty goog player for the price when I got it. I've had it for three months and I'm about to throwit out the window. The green plasic in the head phones broke in about a month. The controls on the player do not do what they are suppose to. You hit the back button and it advance the to the next song instead of going back. You try to change the playing mode it and it goes into the programing mode. In general the button just don't dop what there suppose to. the anti-skip is pretty good but thats it. Spend the extra money on a real cd player.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buttons Have Mind of Own
Don't buy it. Like another person who posted on 12/25, I've found that the buttons do not work. For instance, when I press the ">>|" button that is supposed to advance to the next track, it goes into repeat mode. When I hit that same button again, it begins to cycle through all of the other modes (e.g. shuffle, etc.). Same goes for the other buttons. I'm unable to stop the disc using the Stop button. To stop it, I have to open the player. It's pretty maddening.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful
Just about the most awful CD player I've ever owned. The neat thing about mine is that none of the buttons (stop, play, fwd) do what you want. They randomly do whatever they feel like. Sometimes FWD will change the MODE, i have to hit the STOP button about 10 times to get it to stop, otherwise it ADVANCES the track. Eesh. I wish I had never bought this thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good deal
My brother owns a very good Sony CD player that he is alwaysbragging about. ... . He was telling me that I didn't have enough money for a good CD player. I proved him wrong. As soon as I showed him an ad for this one, he said, "Koss? Are you crazy?" I bought this CD player from Amazon and I really enjoy it. It puts out a really good sound, the extra bass sound adds a lot of bass, it has awesome headphones, and the car pack lets the whole family listen to CDs in the car. It has never skipped with ASP on, and it even has good skip protection without the ASP on. This player hasn't yet given me any problems, and it is all for an incredible price. My brother can't believe my CD player. Even though he doesn't want to admit it, my CD player is actually better than his. ... Read more
