Amazon.com Review

KLH's Model 325 Home Theater Satellite Speakers function nicely as a stereo bookshelf pair or as an integral part of a small-scale home-theater setup. The Model 325s are compact--they stand about a foot high and produce next to nothing below 80 Hz (the upper bass region)--but if you use them in tandem with a subwoofer, you can extend their perceived range to be much deeper.

We found that the KLH 325s sounded best in smaller applications where they can power a room on their own, such as office or bedroom setups. They're too large and too efficient for close-quarters computer use; a tiny boost from a small amplifier is more than enough to get the 325s cranking. Supplied brackets facilitate wall mounting, but make sure the tweeters are at or below ear level, as the high frequencies cut out sharply the second you move off-axis.

When positioned correctly, the 325s offer surprisingly balanced sound. Given their three-driver design, we assumed KLH would try to push a lot of bass from these speakers, but this is not the case. The manufacturer has wisely let the speakers "speak" in the range most comfortable for them and they're all the more listenable for it. Voices and strummed guitars (both acoustic and electric) sounded especially sweet at both loud and soft levels, inviting sustained listening. Lengthy, solderedspeaker wire is supplied for flexible positioning.

Pros:

  • Good sound for their size
  • Easy to drive
  • Simple setup

Cons:

  • Highly directional

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality Satilite Speakers for the money.
These speakers are a cost-effective solution for remote sound in a Family Room or Home Office. The sound is better than expected for the low cost. Plenty of power to be used without additional speakers. Wall mounting is tricky (non-adjustable bracket), but achievable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It is an excellent system at a low price!
I originally bought this system right after it was released from KLH Audio. I compared numerous systems and found this to be the best for the money. This includes almost everything you need and for a fantastic price. I have made an arrangement with a few companies and have begun selling these units. Check for them here on Amazon ... Good luck and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do...

5-0 out of 5 stars Awsome Speakers for a Great Price
Pros: Awsome speakers, Low price, 120W powered sub, wires included, a company you can trust, and the gates to a whole 'nother world.

Cons: Doesn't come with sub hook-up, std wires aren't your best choice, so cheap you're afraid to buy them. BUT YOU SHOULD! THEY RULE!!!!!

KLH has done it again! I had A sucky sound system in my room (2 very old, sucky Realistic speakers and a decent Infinity center speaker. It had an extremely old reciver hooked up to it.)So ever since I got my Dad's old reciver, (which wasn't very old he just wanted all the new technology since he got a progressive scan DVD player.) I needed new speakers. Though with only 200 bucks to spend, I was in a rut. I wanted full surround sound and a sub. After much research, I had several ideas, but the complete set KLH set seemed to be perfect for me. And sure enough it is! The sattilites are clear and precise and sound great alone, but the sub really makes up for the small speaker bass. This set even includes the wires for the speakers, though is lacking a sub plug. I hooked my front sattilites up through the sub. But with the right reciver, these speakers rock. Litteraly. Hooked up to my PS2, I have ultamite entertainment. I mooved to gaming councles after both our computer started messing up and do only the bare essentials. So that is where I spend my time. And when I compare my setup to my Dad's which cost more than 3 times the amount, just for the speakers, It's a close match. But he has a few advantages. :)
Bottom line: in this price range, nothing can compare to the capabilities of these KLH surrounders

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good System
I wanted a home theater speaker system but didn't want to spend alot of money. I am very glad I purchased this system. I compared these speakers with many others and they sounded as good as any I listened too. If you want a great system without paying big bucks for it, then these speakers are for you. I cannot think of anything to complain about and I plan on purchasing another set for a second TV room in the near future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Speakers for the Money
I am very impressed with the KLH SS02-HTIB speaker set, and for the money I couldn't be happier. The 8 inch powered subwoofer delivers good strong bass, and unlike other low-priced (and some much more expensive brands), it has both line and speaker-wire inputs, plus an auto off timer, phase in/out, adjustable crossover (30-180 Hz) and amplifier gain controls. That flexibility means you can connect it in many configurations, whether the receiver has a subwoofer output or not. The front, center and rear speakers are all identical, with 4 inch midrange and 5/8 inch tweeter. They deliver smooth full midrange and couple flawlessly with the subwoofer. For my tastes the tweeter could be a bit more brilliant on some music, but I adjust by inching the treble up a few decibels on the receiver in those situations and it sounds great. I compared several brands like Sony, Yamaha and JBL, but being budget conscious I could not justify more for those brands when these KLHs sounded just as good to me. (Noticed that Yamaha has the same satellites as rear speakers on a much more expensive set.) Overall the SS02-HTIB has all the bass you'd ever want, and a very smooth sound that's full but never shrill. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Revelation
Let me begin by admitting that I cannot be considered an expert in the field of evaluating speakers. However, I have been a pretty avid stereophile for almost 20 years, and am something of an equipment snob. My tastes, however, run to what some of my friends would disdainfully call "mid-fi." In lieu of esoterica such as 20 watt monoblock tube amps, I believe in solid, no-frills equipment from companies such as NAD, Denon, Harman Kardon, and Nakamichi: equipment that gives solid performance at a fair price, eschewing silly frills for quality construction, design, and materials. When it comes to speakers, I believe the decision as to what to buy is very subjective, and a function of some basic cost trade-offs. That said, I have always been a firm believer in a well-designed two-way speaker - all of my main speakers, from EPI T/E 100s, to the Energy ESM-2s I just replaced, have been two-way speakers with 8-inch woofers. The KLH Model 18T is, I believe, the best of the bunch.

I just recently had to replace my faithful Energy speakers when the foam woofer surrounds completely disintegrated after 15 years. I have had my heart set on purchasing a pair of Magnepans (perhaps the MMGs) for some time, but with two small and very curious children, this seemed quite foolish. I don't think those nice flat panels would last a day without having multiple holes punched in them. Another concern: it's Christmastime and I have two small children, so spending what I once thought of as a reasonable sum to satisfy my stereo-lust seemed rather Scroogelike. So I needed something solid, inexpensive, and relatively impervious to children. And they had to sound wonderful. Unable to do a decent job of speaker auditioning, I took the plunge and did a little web-research, settling on a pair of KLH Model 18Ts. And I was well rewarded.

Now, KLH is a brand that I have never considered before. If you're going to go esoteric, speakers are the place to start. And KLHs are about as plainjane and lowbrow as they come. But as I read in various testimonials, these top of the line KLHs should not be lumped with their more humble siblings. The materials and construction appear generally to be of high quality, from the gold plated binding posts to the yellow woven fiberglass woofers. And added bonus, they look good, at least to me. They are about 40" tall, just about right for listening in your favorite easy chair. The finish on my speakers is a nice high gloss maple (they are also available in black and various other finishes), although the gloss looks perhaps a bit too plasticky. You can see the gold colored polycarbonate tweeters and yellow woofers through the metal screens, for a nice high-tech touch. The plastic grill casing, however, seem a little flimsy, and the veneer is a little warped along some of the edges. I would not notice this, I think, in a less glossy finish, and it is a relatively minor quibble.

Now, let's get to the meat. How do they sound? They sound good. Very good, indeed. And they seem much more efficient than the sensitivity rating of 86 dB @ 1W - 1M would suggest. My Energy speakers were rated the same and required a lot more of my Harmon Kardon amplifier. The soundstage and accuracy of these speakers is every bit as good as my old speakers, which cost $100 more in 1985 dollars. And they seem to have what I consider great "presence." My Steely Dan CD, which I consider a great test of a speaker's abilities, sounded fresh and alive. I could hear things on "Deacon Blues" I never noticed bedfore. And the bass is tight and deep. The drums on the CD had that quality of "attack" and immediacy that my other speakers could never match: It seems as if the drums are live, as opposed to a muffled recording. These KLHs certainly add back the punch to percussion that I had not even know I was missing. I don't believe in subwoofers in general, although I accept their justification with satellite speakers. A subwoofer is certainly not needed with these speakers. Their (unqualified) rating of 30-20,000Hz seems reasonable. They also did a fine job with (modern) classical music. The low, rumbling menace of Gorecki's Third Symphony was given new life by these speakers. They did just as well with Dawn Upshaw's haunting voice.

It is really hard to do a true evaluation of a speaker without being able to compare it head to head with another model. I would not be surprised if once could find similarly priced speakers that were more accurate, or more smooth. I would not be surprised if one could find better, tighter bass, if that's what you are into (personally, I prefer a good tight mini-speaker with no bass to a sloppy one with a 15" woofer). Pick any particular aspect of a speaker that you might be interested in and no doubt you could find something in the same price range that would beat this speaker. But I have not auditioned any speaker that for the money performs so well in so many ways as these KLHs. They are incredibly versatile, and at their price, you cannot really go wrong.

If price were no object, I would give these 4 stars over all. But given all that these speakers deliver for their price they deserve 5 stars. Or, if you're desperate like I was, order them online, and if you don't think they are worth every penny, send them back and eat the postage. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent choice for the rest of us
I consider myself an audiophile, but I don't always have money to throw down for the high-end stuff. I took a chance based on the decent reviews this piece was getting here at Amazon. I was pleasantly surprised once I had it hooked up to my low cost receiver (SONY STR-DE545) to compliment my floor speakers and bookshelf speakers. The sound is clear and natural sounding and it even does well at high volumes. Granted I live in an apartment so I can't crank it that often, but when I do this speaker does the job admirably.

The only bad thing (and it is minor) is the speaker shielding isn't rock solid and if I put this directly on top of my TV it will distort the tube just a bit. Had to put it up higher on the entertainment center to get it away from the tv tube. Gave it 5 stars anyway, based on performance and of course value.

For reference, we use it mostly for DVD movies (at moderate volumes usually) and some TV programs. Very happy with its performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars I'm very happy with the speaker
I upgraded to a surround sound receiver (mainly because I needed it to switch between s-video inputs), and decided to add some cheap surround speakers including the KLH center channel and subwoofer. I've been very happy with the results. I'm not an audiophile, but for my fairly simple needs, it makes a big difference in the sound quality and I've had absolutely no problems with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars [great] performance with a [nice] price tag!
These are great speakers for the price. I have compared them to center channels costing three times their price such as the Polks, JBL, and even the Infinitys and the cheaper KLH 525 sound just as good (one may think that the sound is slightly flat when put against some 300+ dollar centers but when combined with a good sub, surrounds and fronts, the are probably the best value for the money)

With 4 mids and a tweeter, and 125 watt capability, I would recommend these to anyone on a tight budget who wants a high quality speaker.

One thing I don't like from this speaker is the housing is made of plastic...It makes itself look cheap. And it should be deep black not dark gray.

However, the weakness I found is not relevant to its performance. So, although I would give it 3 stars for style it certainly deserves 5 for value and performance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
I recently got a Dolby Digital reciever but no speakers to listen my to sorround sound movies with, looking threw Amazon i found this great center channel. The crisp clears of the highs and lows of the people talking and whispering truly come to life with this speaker, the movies sound amazing. Im not an expert on how things should sound but to my ears this sounds just great. It's distortion free and has no ecco at high volumes. I think this speaker was a great buy and it really compliments my reciever. Everyone should have a great center channel and i think that KLH did a great job with this one. Yull love it at this price. You cant find such good sound at such a small price.

5-0 out of 5 stars KLH 525 Center Channel Speaker
this is a verry good center speeker for the price that is being asked it may not be the best out there but it gets the job done at very high volums it sounds didtorted but other than that this is a verry goot center speeker i just wish i would have got it sooner ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Talk about a lot of bang for the buck--KLH's AV5001 floorstanding speaker provides just that with a 12-inch woofer and a 12-inch passive radiator for deep, powerful bass. For the remainder of the frequency range, KLH uses a 5.25-inch liquid-cooled midrange cone and a 1-inch liquid-cooled dome tweeter. And because the AV5001 has high sensitivity, you can drive it to ear-crunching indoor levels with just about any amplifier.

The AV5001, which comes in a black-ash vinyl veneer, is relatively large and designed to sit directly on the floor. (You may want to consider wedging rubber feet or cones under the AV5001 in order to keep all of that bass energy from resonating through your floorboards instead of radiating into your room.) As far as hooking up the AV5001, we weren't crazy about the spring-loaded wire-clip terminals. Five-way binding posts would be more rugged and convenient. Otherwise, the AV5001 appears to be a solidly made speaker.

Sonically, it may not be the last word in subtlety and nuance, especially for jazz and classical fans. But then, refinement is the last thing needed for some music. If you love to hear a Marshall stack churning waves of thrashing guitar notes, or a kick drum delivered with the room-rattling power of a crashing safe, or pants-flapping drum and bass, then the AV5001 will have you on your feet and dancing. In addition, vocals sound clear and strong, and the top end has plenty of shimmer and zing. Overall, the AV5001 is a clean and powerful speaker.

No one speaker can satisfy everybody, and KLH's AV5001 probably won't get your juices flowing if you're into classical or acoustic music. But if you like hard-hitting music that's rich in bass and treble, the AV5001 will make it come alive. --Wayne Garcia

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't be an audio snob!! Buy these speakers.
I bought these speakers christmas 2001 so I've been listening to them for a year now. I have them paired with a smaller set of KLH bookshelf speakers. Powered by a 100 watt Teac home audio receiver along with a Teac equalizer connected with gold tipped monster cable. These speakers ROCK!! really. The sound is very clean. Regaurdless of weather your listening to rock, jazz ect..
With the smooth jazz or very instramental songs you can hear everything. The seperation of sound is just wonderfull. But on the other hand they can also put out the very loud thumping bass that would make a marshall stack proud, that's if you can take turning up the volume. I havn't had the need to blow out my ears or really disturb the neighbors so I've not turned the receiver up past 4 on an 8 volume knob. But at 3-4 the sound is loud enough for an enclosed room. I bought the EQ after getting the speakers in order to better control the sound. What I found was that without the EQ in some cases the bass was overpowering. The EQ has given me the ability to tone down the bass or midrange when needed.
The size of these speakers are to say big. If you have a small place these speakers are not for you. They need to be seperated by some space. I have mine on opposite sides of the room with the bookshelfs in between which work out ok. In a large room they take up space really nice and look great. I would have liked them to be a honey color which I saw KLH made but was never able to find them but the black is fine. The only bad thing I can find that I would change is the terminals which are the clip type. A screw type binder would have really made these the ultimate package but with the price of these speakers it's really easy to look the other way. Bottom line : if you can get past the snobbish remarks you might get from the audiophiles that think the only way you can get great sound is by spending thousands of dollars then your home free. Besides, I don't know many people that construct their homes to be concert halls. Most get what the contractor builds in a particular area. these speakers take avantage of what most people have and KLH should be commended on selling an affordable speaker that really Rocks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bringing Down the House
These speakers are awesome! I have a 100w per channel surround sound system and they don't even break a sweat. If you live in an apartment builing in Manhattan like I do you might feel a little restrained on the volume because these things GOT BASS. In a home it could rival any movie theatre you have went to. Deep bass, crystal clear highs and an excellent mid range. This is regardless of price. Now account for the [$$] per speaker price and you have something to cheap to pass up.
The speakers are larger than the typical towers but they have a 12" woofer so that accounts for the size. The size is not ridiculous but it will make family and friends do a double take with a smile because they know there must be some serious sound coming out of them.
GO BUY A PAIR, ONLY YOUR NEIGHBORS WILL BE SORRY!

4-0 out of 5 stars exceptional speaker at this price
I hooked this enormous speaker up to my 50 watt reciever. They have ample bass ...But i wouldnt suggest these speakers for a 3 piece system(reciever, speaker pair)because there are virtually no mids and the highs are really flat sounding. The speakers still sound this way when the treble is all the way up.I also warn people on trying to bridge these speakers i use 50 watt amp so i tried it and its not a wise idea. All in all these speakers are great at their price but the sound is mainly for the bass lovers.Add a set of mid to high bookshelf speakers and its a system that is unrivaled at this price.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased
Have had speakers 6 days; I'm giving them a "break-in" period.
Thus far I couldn't be more pleased. They seem to produce everything from highs to lows with ease. I have a wide variety of tastes in music. It ranges from classical to the screamer Manard Ferguson. They have satisfied me in every respect. When I listen to Wynton Marsalis he sounds unbelievable. To anyone, I can't see buying "audiophile" equipment when this product is so satisfying. I'll probably upgrade them in time.

5-0 out of 5 stars What was that guy on??
I don't know what the guy who wrote the review that said that this system is like dog regurgitation was on, but this is definately not a dog's projectile vomit. its bass is quite good if you are looking for a sweet system for your dorm, and its probably very good for some 15 years old who wants to show off for his friends. overall, this system is the living end for anyone who wants to add on to their current system.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor reliability
The speaker was fine while it worked. The circuitry just went out on mine, however, for the second time in just over a year of light use. I had it replaced the first time (at half of the cost of the original unit) and now plan to give up and buy something of higher quality. Quite a disappointment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Subwoofer
In the 8 months I have had this subwoofer, the base has never been a good "thump". It seems there is more amp than there is speaker. In trying to get what I was looking for, the subwoofer went out. Now I am looking for a new speaker. I always had to keep the gain and the frequency turned down to half or less than half in order for the sound not to have a splat to it. I am now looking for something that will hold up better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Low sonics for less
I believe that music as recorded on any source be as accurately reproduced as possible - as it was performed. The problem is that this is not always the case, and so, we are all guilty of "tailoring" the sound to fit our preferences. Recording equipment and the equipment used to reproduce music is not always faultless. The KLH ASW 12 subwoofer is as near to faultless as is possible for $200, and is more than capable of accurately reproducing musical instruments of low sonics. This is my opinion as a musician of many years. I am pleased that I made the decision to add this subwoofer to my system, and I did so economically. However, I found that some experimenting with placing and adjusting the unit is required. My advice is to be cautious not to "add" low frequencies which are not on the source, and which make music muddy and boomy. When properly adjusted, the ASW 12 reproduces low and tight bass sounds in a large room, but don't put it in a corner on the floor. One trick is not to set the gain too high, but only at the point where the sub is silent during moderately loud passages of the music being played. If the sub is trying to reproduce frequencies at a level above its design limits, then clarity in the music will be lost. I have found that the crossover adjustment should be set at a point where the lowest frequencies of the main speakers begin to rolloff, and the sub takes over. This is its purpose after all. In adjusting the gain and crossover controls, less is more; at least in the case of the KLH ASW 12. Remember, this unit has a 200 watt amp on board. The only fault I have with this sub is the overall size which is large. Perhaps this is a design necessity. Also, for a company who should be proud of their product; the owner's manual doesn't reflect pride or much of anything, including detailed instructions which are, concise and ambiguous. Here again, you can't rely on much help from KLH engineers. A good musical ear will tell the listener where to best place the KLH 12, and how to adjust it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What are you people doing?
I have to say, after hearing many different brands of audio equipment out there. KLH is the best deal I've seen yet. I see all these people saying how they have so many problems, what are you people doing to this sub for it to stop working that fast? It has an internal amp, that doesn't mean you need to use the speaker inputs with high amp and then have the gain up high. Are you running it for long periods with bass testers or something? Read the manual, it says to prevent long and loud bass for extended periods of time. Maybe you people just don't know how to use audio equipment the proper way and with care for the equipment as well. And anyways, just like with a car for instance, you don't get it and then floor it until you break it in a little, the same thing goes for audio equipment.
Besides the aspect of its "problems" people seem to have generated with this speaker, I would say it has the quality of some Velodyne subs, and they are almost 2 times the price for an 8" subwoofer. So, all I can say is, if you want an awesome stereo system and don't want to refinance your house, go with KLH for everything, I've had no problems with any of my equipment (Digital Dolby Receiver, Floors, Bookshelfs, Sub and my other stereo w/ 8" bookshelfs).

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Sub, but only for a while...
I bought the KLH 10" sub with high hopes. When I first got it 2 months ago it performed rather well. At low to mid volume levels it could play clean. At high volume levels it has a lot of port noise from the velocity of the air exiting. Last night the sub died. It began to exibit popping noises and is now deceased. If you buy this, don't expect it to last long at high volume levels as with any sub, it had it's limit. This peticular sub did not care for a band called "Nile." I wouldn't recommend this product for extreme volume levels, but it sure tried!

1-0 out of 5 stars very boomy
not a quality piece. i usually like KLH products, but this is definitely a case where you get what you pay for.

the sound is loud, but very boomy and not controllable at all. i played around with it for a few hours and had to take it back - it was worthless to me. and i'm not an audiophile.

i eventually bought a jbl PB10 and it's considerably better. it's twice the price, but worth it for the improvement in sound.

best of luck!

2-0 out of 5 stars Strange Buzzing sound and then it stopped working
This subwoofer worked great during action scenes, but during the quieter scenes it had a really annoying humming sound coming from it and it made it hard to concentrate on dialogue. I played with all the dials and made sure the wires were plugged in correctly, but it didn't help. After the warranty expired, so did the subwoofer. I have to give the subwoofer a rating of 2 stars because it did perform well during action scenes, but that is the most I can give it. I will never buy KLH speakers again. It wasn't worth the aggravation and added expense in the long run.

3-0 out of 5 stars not a review as such
Since I see a lot of people complaining about these subs, I just want to make sure people are setting them properly. Before you hook the sub up, slowly turn up the volume on your other 5 channels until they are as loud as they can go without distorting. Then disconnect those speakers and hook the sub up, keeping that volume the same. For the crossover, check the frequency response of the sub, and then set the crossover to slightly lower than that to give it some leeway (like if frequenct response is 20-150hz, set it to 100hz or 125hz) This will minimize distortion from the sub since it won't be trying to play notes that are almost out of it's range. Now with the sub hooked up, start with the gain at minimum, and slowly turn it up as high as you can without it distorting. Turn the volume back down, hook your speakers back up and enjoy. Taking these steps will optimize the quality of sound, and will keep your amp and sub running longer since it won't be overworking itself. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

KLH's six-piece home theater speaker set is a compact and affordable ticket to enjoying multichannel surround sound from your favorite movies. Best when used in conjunction with a Dolby Digital- and DTS-decoding surround receiver, the KLH HT-9900 handles 10 to 100 watts per channel and--at 8 ohms/88 dB sensitivity--will work nicely with almost any receiver.

Speakers
The five central speakers in the HT-9900 consist of four identical satellites (left, right, front, and rear) and a slightly larger center channel speaker (since 70 percent of a movie's soundtrack is dialogue or center focused).

The two-way satellites each use a single 4-inch woofer and a 0.625-inch piezoelectric tweeter; the center channel uses dual 4.25-inch woofers and a matching tweeter. All speakers are magnetically shielded, so they won't induce image distortion now matter how close you set them to your TV (center channels often rest atop the set).

With the satellites, it's safe to use amplifiers pumping up to 100 watts per channel when the sats are wired through the subwoofer (see the enclosed hookup manual). Use a more conservative 60-watts-per-channel receiver if you'll be feeding them speaker-level signals directly from the receiver's back panel.

The satellites measure 8.625 by 5.125 by 5.5 inches; the center-channel speaker measures 5.25 by 17.25 by 5.5 inches.

Subwoofer
The sub uses dual 5.25-inch woofers, which help push bass down to 50 Hz--impressively deep for the sub's diminutive size. A low-pass filter rolls the top end of the sub's frequency response at the low end of the satellites' range, ensuring seamless integration between them. The subwoofer measures 11.25 by 7.625 by 17.125 inches.

The system includes speaker wire and is covered under a one-year limited warranty on parts and labor. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, surprising awesome speakers!!
I bought this set when Amazon had the Friday sales...I am just getting into the whole home theater thing, so I was looking for highly rated speakers on a budget. Well, they came today, and the set COMPLETELY exceeded my expectations. The speakers are well build, in nice wooden cabinets. Set them up at well thought places in your living room, and the sounds are terrific. The set are a LOT larger than...tiny pictures. Woofer is EXCELLENT when placed at a good corner. I placed mine next to my sofa in the corner against the bookshelf, so the sound can bounce around the shelves, and it is AWESOME! The set is still a steal for 99 bucks. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars PHENOMENAL
I'd never heard of KLH until I bought a pair of large bookshelf style speakers for general audio purposes. The speakers were KLH's and they blew me away. How could I get a pair of speakers that sound this good for under [$]? Which is why when I looked for a home theatre set I went straight for the KLH's. This set is extraordinary. I've had them for well over a year and every time we watch a DVD we're still enamored by the sound these things produce. A 6 piece home theatre set for under [$]sounds ridiculous. It's not, if you're buying KLH.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Deal
The center, front and rear speakers here are remarkable. I have friends who have spent several hundred dollars on sets of speakers, and there is really no noticeable difference in sound quality. However, the subwoofer here is simply a waste of space. Just toss it. Buy yourself a high quality sub. When combined with these speakers, you'll have a great home theater set up, and you'll still have paid less than your friends.

4-0 out of 5 stars I am satisfied with my purchase.
I read all the reviews before I made the move to purchase this and I too was scepticle. But I have heard of KLH and it's been all good, so I went for it! This is a great system and it connected up with my older Pioneer reciever. The only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of longer speaker wires. I extended them with additional wire to place them in all the right places. It was a great compliment to my already awesome Sansui house speakers. This was a good purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars NEVER AGAIN!!!
I got this system home, and it requires a thing called a receiver to hook it up, which costs [extra]... So unless you got a receiver I suggest you not buy this... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For the Price, You Can't do Better
Typically available for as little as $50 each (that is what I paid), I don't think it is possible to find a speaker that will touch the KLH M365T at anywhere near the cost. The sound/cost ratio is truly astounding. These loudspeakers are an excellent buy in all respects, and I recommended them with only a few reservations.

At first blush, you might find the M365T's sound a little thin. But provide source material with a significant amount of bass energy in the lower octaves, and prepare yourself to be impressed. Saint Saens' "Organ Symphony", for example, is quite impressive. An advertised low frequency range dwn to 35Hz sounds like wishful thinking for a $50 speaker sporting a 6.5 inch woofer. But in my listening room (a fairly large and difficult one), the 35Hz response figure is closer to fact than fantasy.

If you really want to impress people and want to shake down the windows, by all means, buy a subwoofer and have at it. But I wouldn't ... the M365T is well balanced, and the lack of tubbiness in the upper bass octaves make these speakers a joy for extended listening sessions. And when there really *is* a lot of low frequency energy, you'll certainly hear it and feel it.

Like the low frequency response, the the high frequency response is, at first, underwhelming. But provide source materal with significant upper harmonics, and close your eyes. What you'll hear is higher frequency material when you *should* hear it, and none when you shouldn't. Instruments sound lifelike ... no more, and no less.

The imaging is an even bigger surprise than the bass response. Soundstaging is steady and accurate, doubtlessly a product of the midrange and lower treble's smooth response and lack of coloration. Play your favorite vocal source material, close your eyes, and you will hear the broad frequency range of the subject coming from one place, and staying there.

The construction quality is quite good as well. The cabinets are thick, structurally sound, well damped, and well finished in a black veneer. Knock around on the cabinet, and you won't hear a lot of hollow resonances. Input is supplied via 5-way gold-plated binding posts.

On the downside, the M365T is not terribly efficient, nor does it handle window-shattering volumes well. The woofer and midrange driver surrounds appear to be made of urethane foam, so expect those to deteriorate within 20 years or so.

But enough quibbling.

If you've got $500 or so to spend on a pair of speakers, by all means, look elsewhere. But if you have only $200 to spend, you should definitely include these speakers in your listening plans. And finally, if all you have is $100, the parade of quality full range floorstanding speakers begins and ends right here. These speakers offer thoroughly enjoyable high fidelity sound, look good, and are made well ... all for as little as $50 each ... and you can't beat that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than I thought!!
I was totally impressed with the quality of these speakers! I'm no audiophile or any kind of expert, but I was stunned at how good they sounded and how excellent they looked, even for refurbs! I hooked these up as the front speakers in my surround system. In stereo mode, these things turned out as much range as my whole system! And, for any home entertainment buff, the bass on these things is enough to shake the ground and provide the perfect rumble!! Like I said, I'm no expert, but I definately have to endorse these speakers and recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great sound at a great price!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great speakers, good value!
These speakers rock!! i looked all around at various floor standing speakers ranging from 200-500 dollars each, and for KLH i was blown away by the sound produced from these speakers, to me they matched the sound of any higher end floor speaker... not to mention i got the pair for 79 bucks as an open box item, they are awesome!! compared to my old bose speakers these simply blow them awayy! they have great Bass too, i dont even need to use my 300 watt sub now... i use these as my front speakers in my surround system and they are awesome! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars KLH dvd221
This player had trouble reading some dvd's that I rent. Even those that look perfectly fine and that play fine on my computer. It will not read DVD+R/RW or CD-R/RW. When a DVD is recognized and works, the picture quality is fine. I can't depend on the player to read DVD's that I rent, so I am looking for a different player.

3-0 out of 5 stars Problems
This is my first DVD player; I bought it about 2 years ago without knowing much about my options. When I got it, I didn't have an AV receiver, so I didn't notice the lack of an optical audio connection. The first thing I did notice is that my universal remote didn't have a listed code, and it didn't find one by searching.

Currently, the player is connected to a Yamaha HTR-5450 receiver. I've noticed some audio synch problems for a while, which really bug me, but don't seem to bother my girlfriend. Recently, I've also had a lot of trouble with discs freezing or skipping. This occurs with both brand new and old discs, and is rarely helped by cleaning. I haven't gone to the trouble to test the discs on other players to determine for sure where the fault is, but I'm pretty sure it's the KLH. I've read that both the skipping and the audio synch problems are related to an ill-defined set of standards for DVD, and many older players have been reported to have trouble with newer discs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent player for a small home theater
I bought this DVD player over a yr ago. I have just hooked it up to a Philips 5.1 Dolby Digital surround system via the coaxial digital audio output and it delivers incredible sound. Each channel is distinct and crisp..and movies sound amazingly life-like. The picture is also very crisp and sharp utilizing the s-video hook-up with my television. I was a little worried at first due to buying low priced dvd players before this and getting junk. However, I was pleasantly surprised and have played many DVD's (both my own and rentals) over the past 15 months and have enjoyed each and every one of them thanks to this great unit. The only thing it doesnt do is play mp3's which is ok....the sound that comes out of it when a regular cd is played is also outstanding (much better than the AIWA stereo I owned prior and that one sounded great). So, for the novice home-theater buff (like myself) I highly recommend this DVD player. I will eventually upgrade to a much more pricier and higher-end product, but for now, this unit does it's job and does it quite well. Thank you KLH.

1-0 out of 5 stars KHL DVD Player

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased
I was a bit skeptical when I bought this for my 9-year-old daughter for Christmas 2000 but have been very pleased with its performance and durability. The cassette player, CD player and radio all have worked flawlessly and the compact size is perfect for her small room. The controls are simple, large and easy to use. She records great sounding cassette tapes from the radio and the CD. My daughter is impressed with its cool design and translucent turquoise color and I'm impressed that I got a product that's worth the money I paid for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars very cool and groovy =)
This little baby is very cool. I just recieved this boombox from amazon and as a normal guy (not some sort of audiophile) I think this boombox sounds pretty good. The sound is crisp and loud enough to annoy the rest of the family and it has a bit of a retro look to it. That's just groovy baby. The build feels pretty solid, except for the handle, but it'll just be a house stereo so I don't have to worry about that too much. I would highly recommend this radio for someone looking for a cheap radio/tape/cd player that sounds pretty good and looks very happening. =-)
