1-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth the money
This device is advertised to find networks from up to 200 feet but you will be lucky to break 50 feet. The LED lights are also very hard to see under daylight conditions

1-0 out of 5 stars Senior Network Consultant
I found the Wifi Finder to be totally unreliable and definetely not worth the money. I tried it in my office, about six feet from a wireless b/g router and it responded as if it did not see a wireless network. I tried it in the field along side of my wireless PDA and found it found networks only about 10% of the time while the signal measurement on the PDA was accurate. The product was a disappointment and I would not recommend it at all.

1-0 out of 5 stars A piece of pure, absolute junk.
Save your money on this one, folks - You would be better off lighting cigars with $20 bills. I got this and tested the wifi hotspot in my home - no result. Tested the unit at 5 feet away from the router, and got an intermittent signal. I thought it might be a compatibility issue with Linksys routers, so I went for a walk testing all the local hotspots. It registered 2 lights at the strongest hotspot I know of - and I was 6-8 feet from the router. Even with an SNR of 60 dB - a very strong signal - this product would not register. Junk.

1-0 out of 5 stars It's a waste of money
The only way I could get it to detect a wireless network is if I was standing three feet away from the router or access point. I got it to help me locate or identify rouge access points on customer networks but now I wish I could get my money back on this worthless device.

3-0 out of 5 stars Unpredictable.
If you buy it with that caveat in mind, you won't be too angry to find it will not find a lot of networks at all, and that its estimate of signal strength is none too accurate. Despite that, I've found it's worth having in my bag, as it will find most pay-per-use networks such as those in hotels and airports. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great mouse.
I needed a mouse to use on my laptop for gaming. The cordless mouse that came with it just didn't cut it (couldn't transmit fast enough to keep up). I looked online but couldn't decide so I went down to my local computer superstore. I spent a considerable amount of time testing the feel of the mice and I ended up with this one. I went into the store thinking I was going to get the 5 button Logitec MX300 but I walked out with this one (after paying, of course).

Why go with the less expensive mouse? Comfort. I was willing to pay up to twice what I paid for this one but once I had this one in my hand I knew it was the right one. The rubber grips on the side and the buttons are very comfortable. The ridged wheel rolls with just the right effort and has nice positive clicks when spun. The shape fits perfectly into my hand - I never have to arch my palm to perform any function (like using the scroll wheel). I just rest my hand on the mouse naturally. The resolution is 800 dpi so it's very sensitive. The included software has many nice feature for mapping button presses (for example, left and right together) or key + button press (alt-left click, e.g.) to different functions.

The mouse feels sturdy, the cord is long, and it comes with a PS/2 adapter if you don't want to use a USB port. I'm very happy with it. Great design + good software + low price = excellent value.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I want (in a mouse!) at a great price
I bought this mouse to use with my PowerBook. Apple makes great
hardware, but who wants to struggle with a one-button mouse?

This is a three button wheel mouse, with two buttons and a wheel which
can be depressed to act as a third button. The pro version adds a couple
of thumb buttons, but I got the $20 basic version.

The optical tracking is smooth and precise, and the mouse is comfortable
for both myself and my fiancee, who has fairly small hands. I think part of
the reason it works for both of us is that the right and left buttons are so
long. It is a fairly big, high mouse, but the rubber pads make it easy to
hold onto for long periods. Sometimes mice that use a wheel as a middle
button make it so easy to depress that you find yourself clicking when you
try to scroll, but that has not been a problem with this mouse.

I have heard very good things about the Mouseworks software that
comes with all Kensington mice, but the mouse worked perfectly as
soon as I plugged it in so I have not even opened the CD envelope.

My original plan was to buy this mouse for temporary use and upgrade
later, but I have been so pleased with it that I have stopped shopping.
The only thing that would be nice is if it supported Bluetooth, but at
the price (or even twice the price) this mouse is great.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great 'no hassle' mouse
These days, it's so hard to find a mouse that's just a mouse! The Kensington Pilotmouse is great at just being a mouse.

The package comes with the mouse, a USB to PS/2 adapter, a little booklet, and an installation CD. The mouse is sealed in a refreshingly easy-to-open plastic case, not the vacuum-sealed need-a-knife-to-open kind.

Installation is exceedingly simple. On both Windows 2000 and XP, the mouse installed without needing any drivers. I'll probably try the installation CD later just to see what's on it, but it doesn't appear to be necessary - so you don't have to clutter your PC with useless applications.

The cord on the mouse is nice and long. It's plenty long to run to the edge of my desk and down to the back of my computer, which sits on the floor, with plenty of room to move the mouse without pulling the cord taut. The mouse itself is a pleasant silver and black that matches my Viewsonic monitor and keyboard very well.

I figured the rubber grips were gimmicky, but they're actually very pleasant to hold. The mouse is symmetrical to fit either hand, and it is comfortable even in my relatively small hands. One nice feature is the buttons - they have a very unique design that makes the buttons very long, so even people with small hands will be able to click this relatively large mouse.

The wheel is functional, but not as pleasant to turn as the Microsoft Optical Wheelmice I've used. It may just take some getting used to, but there seems to be more resistance to the wheel. The sensitivity adjustments on the movement work very nicely, giving a wide range of choices to suit different mousing styles. The pads on the bottom help the mouse glide suitably well.

All in all? Just a good, solid mouse. I bought one for a new PC and I liked it so much that, when my mouse died on my other computer, I bought another. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Seamless installation and smooth operation.
I am overwhelmed with the ease of installation and thoughfulness of this package. What a bargain!

I really like being able to plug the rechargable mouse into a USB port to recharge it. The instructions said to install the charging cord to a USB port on the back of the computer or the batteries would not recharge, but I plugged it into my powered USB hub and it charges fine. The wireless freedom is better than I anticipated. The optics didn't work well on the desk glass top so I'm still using a mouse pad.

Too bad Kensington didn't make the keyboard rechargable, but the batteries change out easily, and I'll probably use rechagable batteries later. The keys have a different feel (to say nothing about their shape), and there is no positive feedback. My keyboard resides under my desk in a pullout drawer and the best advantage for me is that now there is no cord tugging the keyboard out of place when I pull the drawer out.

Taskbar icons for the mouse and keyboard allow me to check battery status, and the mouse continues to work when being charged. Everything worked flawlessly even without any software installation, and the download from Kensington worked fine. A label on the included CD recommended going to the website for the most current drivers. Lots of driver packages to pick from, but only one is appropriate and it covers keyboard and mouse both.

One of the most pleasant computer things to happen to me in twenty years!

5-0 out of 5 stars Suprisingly Great
I am typing this review from the room next door to my computer, I can't even see the screen. I just bought this setup today to replace a normal keyboard, and so far, I am very impressed. The keyboard has oddly shaped buttons that look weird at first, but once you use them, it makes sense. The mouse is comfortable and very accurate. The utilites that come with the keyboard are rather handy, such as a meter that tells you how charged the mouse batteries are so that you know when to plug it into the charging cord. The only thing I am mildly worried about is the longevity of the products due to the low price, but the 5 year warranty eased my fears. Everything feels sturdy though. I don't feel like typing anymore, I have to many games to keep trying out (Call of Duty is great from a comfortable distance). So, if you want wireless, but are on a budget, I strongly suggest this keyboard. (NOTE: this review was editted for typos after the author returned to his computer) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Mini Mouse!! Download the driver from their website.
I used to have problem with this mouse for the first year: it won't work on the light color mouse pad, the point is always un-steable,..... just SO Hard to control! We tried to install the driver, clean the exterior, change the mouse pad with dark color background..... It just won't work. My husband gave one last try by downloading the driver from their web site, and, this time, it WORKS!! My problem solved! This mouse has been like a pro ever since!! Steable, Sharp, and easy to control!

3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work on some standard desktops
My main gripe about this mouse is that it is somewhat picky about what surfaces it will work with. I have other optical mice that work fine on my standard grey desk; however, the Kensington Optical Pocketmouse just won't work on that surface. It will work on mousepads and many wood surfaces, however. It's a decent mouse otherwise, but I expect more versatility from a device designed for travel.

4-0 out of 5 stars nice little mouse
This is a nice little mouse. Large enough to use, but small enough to hide in the corner of your shoulder bag. It doesn't look like the white mouse pictured, but I don't mind - it's better, translucent with its red glow. The only gripe I have is that I don't seem to be able to customize the behavior of the scroll wheel, and its default behavior is to scroll a tiny bit (too little) in individual clicks, but large bits (too large) when scrolled more quickly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great travel mouse
I've had this mouse for 1.5 years now and use it when on the road, during off site presentations, and when working at home. It's compact, comes with a stuff sack, and best of all works on my thigh while I'm trapped in a crowded airplane.

2-0 out of 5 stars It Broke!!
I have had this mouse for almost a year now, and a couple of months ago it started flaking out, not always clicking when I clicked. Then I had to start unplugging and re-plugging it to get it to turn on. Eventually it just stopped turning on all together. We tested other USB devices on my laptop, and found that it was indeed a mouse problem. We even tried the mouse on several different computers. I'm working on contacting Kensington to replace it, but so far I've only recieved an e-mail parroting back to me my original complaint. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best track-ball/mouse ever made!
I used to use a mouse until one day at work my Mac took a nose-dive and I was forced to use a co-worker's Mac while my machine was being repaired. My co-worker was on vacation, so I was at his desk for 3 days. He had this trackball connected to his Mac and I felt like a new baby calf trying out new legs.

I was so used to my mouse, I felt like I had just gotten my hand for Christmas and didn't know how to use it. After just one day of using it, however, I was hooked. When my Mac was repaired, I stayed at my co-worker's desk until he came back from vacation, just so I could use his trackball and I asked my boss to order one for me as well.

No more mousepads, no more picking up and moving a mouse when you run out of cord and/or desk-space, and a trackball carefully designed to fit a normal adult human hand with ease.

The trackball is easy to clean and there is never any skipping on the rollers - the friction of the ball against the metal rollers is superb. The buttons are angled at such a way, they are almost a pleasure to click. I have never had wrist discomfort using this model.

The MouseWorks software that comes with the trackball allows you to program the 4 buttons to do different functions and you can even program "chords"... that is the action that happens when you click 2 buttons at once.

It is truly a shame that Kensington did not port this same exact model to USB for modern users and instead fell in love with the shiny colored plastic with poor traction on the rollers.

You can acquire an ADB to USB adapter that will allow you to use this on newer Macs or even PCs. The Kensington Mouseworks software is available for older Macs and newer Macs, as well as PCs.

If you have an old beige Mac you're using as a fax server or for another task, this model trackball is a joy to use.

For those using a newer Mac without an ADB port, you will have to buy a separate adapter to use this mouse with your computer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Mouse!
I have had the original expert mouse for a long time and it is much eaiser to use than a normal mouse. I would not buy it though if you play a lot of games becuase it is hard to move very fast to certin but is great for regular use. Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Old design still the best design!
I've used a Kensington TurboMouse for a solid decade, and I use my computer 4-5 hours per day, so I can recommend it with confidence.

The first one I bought lasted nine years. The fat ball and easy-to-click, naturally positioned buttons were a welcome relief from the Macintosh mice of the early 90's. User definable functions such as right button and chord (clicking both buttons at once) made the TurboMouse even more functional than a mouse. Heavily weighted with non-skid pads, it sits in about 1/2 the space of a mousepad. It gives a feeling of sturdiness and absolute precise control over your cursoring. And it's easy to clean; the ball falls out when you turn it over.

When mine started to go on the blink after 9 years, I ordered another - the 4-button model you see here, compatible with Kensington's latest software. Then I got up the courage to peel the sticker off the bottom. Lo and behold, the rollers were visible! And you would not believe the brown gunge that was accumulated in there. After I cleaned that out, the 9-year-old trackball was again functioning perfectly. What a service record!

I do recommend a foam wrist support with this, although it is much easier on the old carpal tunnel than a standard mouse. Gamers beware: you may discover trouble with using the button definitions with such games as Myth and Starcraft; to be quite precise, these used to work on my old PowerMac 7300, but no longer work on the ADB port of my Yikes! B&W G3. But I don't care about that very much; it's a great product and I'd buy a third in a heartbeat. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works as good as it looks. Nifty little gizmo.
What's in the box:
Wireless mouse (3.4"L X 2.7"W X 1.3"H)
Wireless non-swivel receiver (2.7"L X 0.7"W X 0.6"H)
Small travel bag
(2) AA batteries
Owner's manual

I use the Kensington Mini Wireless PocketMouse 72214 with my Compaq notebook using WinXP, and so far it's worked exactly as advertised. The mouse is about 1.5 times the size of a large hen's egg, but works just as well as my other full-sized Microsoft wireless mouse. Although it's tiny, it isn't difficult to operate. The two finger buttons and scroll wheel are not too cramped and don't cause me any functional problems. The response of the cursor is very accurate with good tracking of the mouse movement. The wireless receiver attaches to any USB port and is strong enough to provide a good steady signal to my mouse. (For me, the separation distance is about 22 inches). I am right handed and the Compaq USB port is on the right side rear, so I may be receiving a shorter and stronger signal than other folks that have a USB port opposite their mouse hand.

My only gripe was during the initial installation of the mouse batteries. To remove the battery cover required more force than I was comfortable with applying. I was afraid I was going to crack the cover. However, the cover finally flung off the base and I was able to insert the batteries without any damage done. I guess the good news is that I shouldn't have to worry about the tight cover slipping off while in use. BTW, both batteries are included.

Another nice feature about this mouse is the automatic standby mode for when the mouse hasn't been used for a couple minutes. This feature saves the batteries from depleting too quickly and will save a few dollars on future battery expenses. Overall, I'm very happy with this product. ... Read more
