5-0 out of 5 stars The only battery-operated multi-CD player that I've found
This is the only multi-CD player I've found that runs on batteries. I've been using it for at least 2 hours every day at a swimming pool (hence the requirement for batteries) for several months, in general changing the CD for each song. The batteries last 7 hours. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

JVC's sleek, silvery XV-NP10S could well be called the media maven. This slender DVD player handles a range of media formats, including DVD-Video, VCD/SVCD, DVD-R, DVD-RW (video format), and recordable CDs filled with files encoded in MP3, WMA, JPEG, MPEG-4, or DivX. The XV-NP10S offers premium-quality progressive-scan video (for use with a high-definition or HD-ready TV) and extended-bandwidth, 192 kHz/24-bit audio resolution. Beyond its capabilities with optical media, the unit also boasts a memory card slot equipped to read MP3 music and JPEG images from all major memory formats: SD/MMC, SmartMedia, Compact Flash, xD, and Memory Stick.

JVC's Digital Direct Progressive Scan output, quantified as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. High-quality component-video outputs help minimize line scan and digital artifacts on compatible televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs assure compatibility with nearly any set.

A high-resolution onscreen graphical user interface (GUI) allows Windows-like interactive operation with tool bars superimposed onto the TV screen for simple point-and-click operation. Other convenience features include 3-step high-quality zoom and Screen Fill, which zooms in on a DVD image to eliminate letterbox "bars" on the TV screen.

JVC's versatile VFP (Video Fine Processor) allows 7 parameters of advanced picture adjustment, including gamma, brightness, contrast, color, tint, sharpness, and "Y delay." In addition to 2 factory presets (normal and cinema) there are two user-selectable memories.

A single set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (1 each coaxial and optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great camcorder
I bought this camcorder last Christmas and I've loved it since. I was looking for a reasonably priced Mini DV camcorder and came across this one at a local Sears. It felt nice and sturdy in my hands unlike the smaller ones offered by Sony and Panasonic. I checked some reviews on it, found them to be good and bought it at J&R over in NYC. The video quality is nothing short of outstanding in good lighting thanks to the 1.33 megapixel CCD (a godsend in this price range).

As for faults, the only real Achilles heel this camcorder has is the worthless "Night Alive" mode. Sony's nightvision trumps the JVC in this respect because the picture becomes nothing but a bright, blurry mess in Night Alive mode. I will invest in a video light to remedy this problem and I suggest that those considering this camcorder do likewise. Overall this is still a terrific camcorder thanks to the 1.33 megapixel CCD not usually found in this price range.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Change of Pace!
When I got this camera my first thought was that it just would not deliver, very skeptical. HOWEVER this is the coolest camera in my collection of photo and video gear. Before I get excited let me tell you a few of the bad things first:

1. Not to sporty on Windows 98, have problems from time to time on my old computer running Win 98 getting this to be recognized.

2. The tape loads underneath which means if you are on a tripod that camera must be taken off in order to change tapes.

3. USB and Firewire ports are underneath the view screen which means the camera must be opened in order to use them.

With that said let me say that the camera performs well on my two other computers using Win XP. I enjoy Windows Movie Maker and this camera, they make a perfect match and good outcome.

If you have Win XP or newer this is the camera for you. PLEASE don't forget to get the Flash and Light accessories which really make this a wonderful camera. It is a lightweight and very easy to use camera. I put a 256SD card in this and have not been able to come close to filling it.

I like being able to video and also digital image at the same time, before I had to use two cameras. This camera puts your digial images on the SD Card and also adds the snapshot effect right on the tape. I use this camera daily and have not been let down yet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great camcorder for moviemaking
I purchased this camcorder to make a low budget movie. I was impressed with how many features (like 540 lines of horiz. resolution) were available on this camcorder that were hard to find on anything but the best quality professional mini-dv camcorders.

The image quality was great when adequate lighting was used, and there was no picture distortion, even on a larger (close to 50") television. I recently had trouble with the tape loading mechanism, but that could just be my fault.

Pros:
-1.33 Megapixel CCD hard to find on less expensive camcorders
-Sharp LCD screen
-Viewfinder has diopter (so you can take off your glasses)
-Accepts many lens attachments (I use a wide angle and telephoto lens from Sony)
-Body feels strong, not cheap and light like many Sonys or Panasonics
-Some of the picture effects are useful (like shutter speeds)
-Digital Wide Angle setting (allows you to reach <1x zoom with built in lens)
-Great battery life for included battery
-High quality mic preamp built in
-Amazing picture quality for price when used in good lighting

Cons:
-Bottom loading tape (can't open with tripod attached, but few cameras don't have this now)
-No focus ring (you have to use the tiny scroll wheel, but focus rings are only available on camcorders that cost $1000+. Just use a telephoto lens if you need to pull focus)
-Remote sensor can only be used in front of camcorder
-Poor low light shots (just use good lighting)

All in all, this is a great camcorder for making low budget movies, as long as you have decent lighting. Many options are available in manual mode, allowing you to have more control over picture. Automatic mode works great too.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice
So far, the only thing keeping me from giving this camera 5 stars would be that the night vision is choppy. I'm sure its a side effect of the slower shutter speed required for night viewing, but it made all movement look blurry but the color was great. It's light weight, and easy to use right out of the box. The software that comes with it is usable. It would be better if they would just use a standard windows look and feel though. I could not get XP's movie maker to recognize the camera, but after reading one of the other reviews, I'm sure it's my problem and not the camera's. (8 USB devices and 4 cameras hooked to the same computer may have something to do with it.) All and all, a great package.

5-0 out of 5 stars GR-DV500
Its simply amazing what you can do with this piece of equipment!
Very user friendy and if you are operating on Windows XP,then you are in another entertainment world.
With its compact nature and numerous facilities,it is a must buy.
I love it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

JVC's TH-S3 home theater system delivers top-of-the-line progressive-scan video and world-class sound from high-resolution DVD-Audio discs, which feature your favorite albums specially mixed to take advantage of discrete, multichannel surround sound. The 312-watt (total) system supports most popular optical disc formats, including DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-RW, DVD-R, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, SVCD, VCD, MP3 CD, JPEG image CD, and WMA/MPEG-4 CD. DVD-Audio offers super high-fidelity (192 kHz/24-bit) sound. DVD-Audio discs provide multichannel and stereo sound, incredible storage capacity, and unique bonus materials not available on regular audio CDs.

At the core of the system is a low-profile integrated single-disc DVD receiver. It offers the latest image-enhancing benefits, including a 10-bit/54 MHz video digital-to-analog converter (DAC) for detailed images. If, now or later, you're using a high-definition or HD_ready TV or monitor, you'll appreciate the system's Digital Direct Progressive Scan output, which delivers a seamless, flicker-free image closer to what you see in theaters than standard interlaced outputs can produce.

For audiophiles, onboard 192 kHz/24-bit audio DACs maximize the capabilities of DVD-Audio discs as well as more common PCM stereo and Dolby Digital/DTS audio tracks. Dolby Pro Logic II generates 5.1-channel sound from any stereo (2-channel) source, including your MP3 files.

All speakers are powered by 52 watts per channel. The subwoofer drives home your movies' low-frequency effects with its 6.2-inch woofer; system frequency response is rated at a nearly full-range 40 to 20,000 Hz.

With a redesigned drive mechanism and new algorithms for media identification and parameter optimization, JVC's Express Start feature will deliver the first scene of a movie onscreen in just under 4 seconds (with single-layer discs). JVC's laser pickup offers superior resistance to mistracking resulting from disc warpage and other damage. JVC has developed a new and even higher-performance pickup, officially named "Rolling Pickup," which follows wandering tracks and plays warped discs with impeccable precision.

Other features include analog audio inputs to accommodate a VCR, plus a digital-audio input for a digital satellite receiver. Three video outputs--component-video, S-video, and composite-video--guarantee compatibility with any currently available television or monitor. You also get a high-performance radio tuner with 15 AM and 30 FM station presets, a headphone output for private listening, a choice of 3 onscreen languages (English, French, or Spanish), Express Play start (to bypass DVD menus and get right to your movie), and a multi-brand TV/VCR remote control with a sliding lid. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Only Bad For Pros
Hi...I had been wanting this camera for such a long time, but didn't know if it was the right way to go. I looked at other reviews, and there were many complaints about terrible picture quality. That discouraged me, but when I went to Circuit City and tried it out, it was awesome! It is very stylish, and an excellent camera. Outdoors, the picture quality is excellent. Indoors it's excellent too, except when in low lighting conditions, the picture is slightly (and I mean very slightly) off-color. This (or so I believe) should only have impact on your choice if you're a professional (or really obsessed with perfect graphics...). The bad thing about this camera is the digital stills. I mean, they're not terrible, but you're much better off just buying a regular digital camera for those purposes (like myself). But that doesn't have any impact on my feeling toward the camera, because I don't plan on using it for still photos.

In conclusion, the JVC GR-D90US is an excellent, easy to use video camera that anyone can enjoy! This is a great buy!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars SOME PEOPLE ARE SO HAAAA

3-0 out of 5 stars pretty ordinary camcorder, firewire port is weak.
My freind bought this camcorder a sharper image. It is a decent camera, not great, not terrible. picture is average, sound is average. With this camera you dont get as much for the price as for a canon or sony. It has no mike input and no earphones. It doesnt support LANC like all other JVCs. The firewire port sucks. After two weeks of having the camera the pins inside it bent and the plastic the holds everything in place pretty much disitegrated. He returned the camera under warranty and got a new one. We learned that you have to be really careful with it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your Money
I purchased this JVC GR-D90 camera on Amazon.com used it four times and it died, just like everybody else. This can only lead me to believe that the JVC Brands are unreliable. What a waste of money. I think I will try a Sony next time. I have lost all trust in the JVC brand name. If you are smart do waste your money.

Tech Talk
Progressive scanning: Progressive scanning displays all the horizontal lines of a picture at one time, as a single frame. A progressive scanning DVD player converts the interlaced (480i) video from DVD into progressive (480p) format for connection to a progressive display. It dramatically increases the vertical resolution.

Component video: Video signals with three channels of separate information that make up the picture. There are a couple types of component video, such as R/G/B and Y/Cb(Pb)/Cr(Pr).

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Picture but returning due to unusual problem
I received the unit 3 days ago and set it up without any trouble. The picture quality is fantastic. My issue however was an unusual habit of movies "freezing" every 5-10 minutes (no, I don't thinks its the player looking for layer 2 on the DVD as the JVC website suggests). I tried a number of different movies that had worked the day before on my "old" Sony DVD player, they all did the same thing.

If I can't figure out whats causing it its going to have to go back. As long as you don't get this problem I think this product would be a winner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review update
After making minor repairs to the door front using double sided tape, I no longer have any problems with the tray opening and closing.

This is a great player and I would recommend this player. I have not had any problems with playback of any type of dics that I have used. The picture and sound are great. The video fine processor improves the video quality, it is so good that you must see it for yourself. I have another JVC DVD player and it has been working perfect for the last three years and I expect the same from my current JVC DVD player.

Great DVD player. Plays all types of - +'s disc and MP3's with no problems. Great picture and sound using the latest technology and fastest video processor todate.

4-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars for Picture quality and 4 Stars for build quality
The JVC XVN410BK unit is very slim and the tray is very flimsy. The unit is 1 3/4"inches tall. I quickly connected the unit with no problems, but soon ran into a major problem when trying to open the tray to insert a DVD movie the tray would try to open but something was stopping it from doing so. I placed a call the seller and was given the Tech Support number to JVC ,but did not wait to speak a Tech person. Upon inspection of the tray I notice that the tray was misaligned. I lifted up on the front bottom edge and the tray opened and when the tray came out so did the clear plexiglass insert, which was only held in by some sticky tape that had loss it's stack and it would no longer stay in place. I open and closed the tray a few times to ensure that it was ok, which it seem to be ok, but now I am not confident that the tray will operate later trouble free and wondering if I should send it back to be on the safe side, but I would then be out of paying to ship it back to the seller and wait for a number of weeks to receive a replacement.

I decided to purchase a new DVD player, because my older model Toshiba would only play original pressed DVD/CD's meaning no CD/RW, DVD-R, or DVD+R of any type. I use a JVC in my bedroom and it plays everything and I can use the same remote.

JVC has really built a great DVD player. The XVN410BK has the very best picture and sound I have ever seen or heard. The unit is one of four new models for 2004 the 410BK is in the middle of the pack only surpassed by the 510BK, which only difference is the 510BK plays DVD Audio and DVD Ram disc. The 410BK and 510BK both have the DigiPure Circuitry High-bit/high-sampling (12-bit/108MHz) video D/A converter and DNR video noise reduction system, which means that you get the very best picture there is, other JVC models are not equipped with these new features. The 12 bit/108MHz D/A video processor is the very latest technology, with many other model and brands using the older 10 bit/54MHz D/A converter. The Video Fine Processor of the above models allow you to adjust 8 different video adjustments, such as DNR, DigiPure and many more. Believe me this unit has the very best picture there is.

I originally planed to purchase a multi disc DVD player form Panasonic, but decided to purchase another JVC, because of the quality and price of my last JVC DVD player. If it was not for the mishap with the tray I would give the 410BK 5 Stars. I will write another review soon to update my review. I give the 410BK 5 Starts for the picture and 4 Stars for the build quality. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars JVC GR-DVM90u - READ ALL ABOUT IT HERE
I have done a fair bit of research on the JVC GR-DVM90u camcorder and I have read many negative responses towards this camcorder. However, the specifications of the camcorder compelled me to buy this unit.

I found this camcorder as a demonstration model on [an auction website] and paid [money]. A great deal I might add from the original market price of [price]. What I first noticed about this camera was its sleek design. It is one of the best looking camcorders out there and relatively slim in my view.

The biggest complaint about this camcorder was its low light capabilities. But the fact is, Which camera will give you a good clear picture in the dark, Sony with its night shot which turns everything green?! Most cameras if shooting at low light require some outer lighting source... even professional cameras. If people didn't jump to conclusions about how poor this camera was in lowlight before reading the manual, they are terribly wrong. The camera has three features available to shoot under low light conditions.

Slow 1 - Slow Shutter raises light sensitivity to allow shooting in dark environments. Slow 2 - Slow Shutter raises light sensitivity further to allow shooting in even darker environments.
Gain Up Auto - The shutter speed is automatically adjusted (1/30 - 1/200 sec.). Shooting a subject in low or poor lighting at 1/30 sec. shutter speed provides a brighter image than in the AGC mode, but the subject's movements are not smooth or natural. The overall appearance may be grainy.

Although rendering the video quality, it sure helps and provides a decent clear picture.

Another thing what others have complained about is the 200x zoom and it being pixilated. It indeed does get pixilated however when using 200x zoom you are suppose to being using a tripod so the camera could focus correctly on the object. When moving your hand a millimeter to the left and right, you are actually causing the video to move 10 feet to the left and right allowing it to not focus whatsoever, in the end, causing the picture to be pixilated.

The Stabilizer on the camcorder is average. I can't say it's the best I have seen however it does cut down the erratic movement of your hand. Between 1x - 10x zoom, the stabilizer works perfect, however, anything beyond that point; you will begin to notice that it is becoming less effective. Some camcorders are able to handle better during these conditions, however if you don't plan to zoom beyond 10x, it works great.

Okay, enough with the refuting and on to the good points of the camcorder.

I have to say that the quality of the video under normal conditions is superb! Colors are rich and clear. Smooth movement under video mode, however, under progressive mode it really gives the video an unnatural look, perhaps for the better, perhaps for the worse. I mainly use the normal video mode when shooting.
The dual mode on the camera is a great added feature to the camera. While having the quality of the video mode, dual mode allows you to take still pictures and save it onto the removable 8 megabyte Multimedia Card. When pressing the button for the snapshots ½ of the way in, it freezes the picture and puts it on the right bottom corner of the screen like a picture in picture feature on a television, however, this does not show on the actual playback of the video. When you want to take that picture, you can press the snapshot fully and it will store it on the memory card. It does not affect the video whatsoever and was very pleased about this feature.

The Digital Camera Mode is another great feature that was implemented on the camcorder. Although the picture quality is average, it allows four different settings. Having choosing the highest quality, the picture quality is pretty good. I wouldn't say it is excellent, but good enough to pass it around.

The features on this camera are endless, from taking still pictures and adding a picture frame to it, to a wide variety of transition effects. Not to mention adding mp3 sound clips to the video.

So far so good, but what about the bad things?

All I can say is the battery life and the memory card storage. The battery life on the camera is 1 hour, however, you can pick up a secondary battery on [an auction site] for [price] that will last you 2.5 hours.

If you are a fanatic with taking still pictures 24/7, you might want to upgrade to more memory. You can pick up 32 megabyte of storage on EBay for around [price]. This will allow you to take 96 high-quality pictures and 620 low quality pictures.

What else should I get?

Firewire port for your PC if you don't have one already. Definitely a necessity to have if you plan to do any video editing. Just load the video into the computer, put it in VCD format, and you can take it to any DVD player that reads CDR's and view them.

Price?

A good value for this camcorder would be up to [price] providing the condition it is in. In any case, anything below [price] is a good buy!

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not ever buy a JVC
For all of you who want to benifit from the people who have suffered buying JVC NEVER EVER BUY JVC. The company officials are not cooperative. Please dont wat your money

1-0 out of 5 stars You will regret if you buy it
This product came as nicely packaged and had all the bells and whistles and was way ahead of time in terms of progressive scan, miniaturization, etc. The progressive scan feature certainly tempted me to buy this product.

I bought this product 2 years ago and have probably used it about 10 total times when it really worked. Most of the time, the product just quits on you and the operative buttons are plain too too delicate. Here is the chronological list of events that I encountered and I certainly regret buying this camera. Worse, I don't think I'll have the heart to buy another JVC product again. Like they say, perception is reality. I learnt the hard way:

1. Bought the camera for ~$1400 2 years ago.
2. The camera failed to record in low light. I accepted it since it was digital and ahead of it's time.
3. The camera began a never ending sequence of attempting to FIND the focus. I have used this in wonderful full array of stage lighting but with highly pathetic results. The camcorder just would not stop finding the focus and you would see the entire recording blurred with the focus drifting in a never ending way from one section to another--very daunting when you cannot identify a leg from the hand and vice versa.
4. The camcorder's on/off/auto/manual switch became flaky to the point that I had to insert bits of paper to keep it on. The service people could not do anything about it.
5. The camera kept providing the cleaning message
6. The internal battery died and the camera would never respond to any button pushes.
7. The camera recorded beautifully (it appeared) but never wrote ANYTHING on the MiniDV tape--the tape was completely blank.
8. The camera is in such a pathetic state right now that I finally gave up.

Not to mention that the Snapshot mode is so granular and pixelated, I wondered who was in the picture a few times at least. If you are buying it for the snapshot mode, forget it. If you are relying on the software that comes with it, I have so much pity for you. The software is eions old (and a dinosaur) and seldom links with the camera or identifies it the first time through. With GRDVM90U, you have to TRY, TRY, and TRY again and then it does work (after so much agony).

I am buying Sony and staying away from JVC as far as I can be. As part of my new purchase, I reviewed the GRD-93US product of JVC. I hopped down to Circuit city to test drive it before venturing to buy it over the Internet. Guess what? I could not believe it that at 10x, the camera again went on the focus finding mission. I could easily decipher the camera limitation since I went through the ordeal with the GRDVM90U for so long. I tried the Sony DCR-HC65 and it worked just perfect. I was dumb-founded but I was able to make my decision of spending a few extra dollars now and buy a Sony than to buy the JVC and regret it for the rest of my life.

Hey, my life is simple...I just have to make sure that I don't buy any JVC products.

2-0 out of 5 stars Agree- it has problems
And I thought all these problems were related to my mother dropping the camera down the stairs.

Those that have this camera- be patient with "cleaning tape" errors. Cycle the power a few times. Take the battery on and off. It will usually work eventually.

Having half the screen blue has only happened when I used the aftermarket Hi-output battery. It works fine for pictures, but will usually screw up video.

For indoor video, I usually use the SLOW 2 video speed. Brighter video, but slower fps.

Slow picture downloads are due to the Serial port, Video download with firewire is no problem.

1-0 out of 5 stars This product should be RECALLED!!!
If you read through the prior reviews, there are common problems. The most deadly is - ERROR "E04". Also, a head cleaning message is common. I sent it to JVC for repair = $627. The main board went bad. When I asked if this is a common problem - the customer service rep was very angered.

I will try to find out how to request a product recall. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Take a leap into big-time entertainment with JVC's surprisingly compact DS-TP6000 home theater. The system includes a DVD player/hi-fi VCR combo unit, a 100-watts x 5 audio/video receiver with built-in FM/AM tuner and Dolby Digital/DTS surround decoding, as well as 5 matching satellite speakers and a 100-watt subwoofer. Dolby Pro Logic II processing generates full 5.1-channel surround from any stereo source (even your MP3-CD files).

With the HR-XVC26U combination DVD player and VCR, you can enjoy cutting-edge DVDs alongside your existing library of videocassettes--and you won't have to continually switch inputs on your TV whenever you switch viewing formats from the combo unit. The HR-XVC26U provides a DVD and a VHS signal through both the composite-video and progressive-scan component-video outputs. You'll also enjoy MP3 music, JPEG image CD, and video-mode DVD-RW and DVD-R media playback, as well as hi-fi VHS performance. And, you can be taping something while you're watching a DVD. Listen to your favorite music for hours on end or set up a custom slideshow of your family's digital photos for viewing on your living-room TV.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the Digital Direct Progressive Scan HR-XVC26U stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Composite-video and DVD-only S-video outputs accommodate most standard (non-HD) TVs.

Exclusive VCR features include 1-month, 8-event programming, index search, auto clock setting, and auto tracking. The unit offers an RF input for cable-box signals and an RF output for use with older TVs that lack composite-video inputs. S-VHS quasi playback lets you watch, in regular VHS resolution, tapes recorded in Super-VHS, normally only compatible with more expensive S-VHS machines. A set of front-panel audio/video inputs accommodates a camcorder or gaming console.

The speaker system consists of 5 mini-cube satellite speakers (front left/right, center, and left/right surround) with a slot-loaded powered subwoofer using a 6.5-inch long-throw driver and a 100-watt amplifier. All speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent image distortion when placed close to a television or computer monitor. Integrated mounting hooks on the satellites make it easy to position them on walls to conserve shelf space. You can also mount the satellites on stands, however, while the center speaker is best positioned atop your television or--with a flat-panel TV--on the wall or a shelf just above or below the TV.

JVC's AV Compu Link simplifies operation when the components are connected to each other or to additional JVC equipment.

2-0 out of 5 stars "Last of the Mohicans "camcorder
I bought this camera thinking since it was VHS it would perform better in low light (as did my older 8mm)than a digital one. WRONG. It also will drain the battery in 15 minutes. Resolution is poor with VHS mode and svhs tapes cost too much. Noisy tape makes me weary. Don't waste your money on this old"last of the mohicans" format. Just get a digital camcorder and buy a light. My $299. digital Sharp blows it away. I can't hardly give it away. Want mine for $150?

5-0 out of 5 stars EXELLENT CAMCORDER WITH A LOW PRICE TAG.
At first the camera looked like it was just a odinary one until i tried it. Wow everything was just so great 700X digital zoom could almost take any distant shot with just a click of a button. This Camera is fully loaded with image stabilizes and inbuilt light the rotatable lcd was simply facinating and it was very clear to me that this camera could take evryshot very clearly especially the image stabilizer comes in handy when you are travelling in a RV or a Car toshoot the outside Nature.

Amazon.com Product Description

The JVC RX-7040B is an advanced 5.1 home theater receiver with the power and features to get your entertainment room moving and shaking. The unit has power where it counts: 110 watts per channel delivered to each of six surround sound speakers. Or, if your intention is to set up a basic two-speaker system, the RX-7040B has you covered, as well; it can deliver 130 watts per channel in a two-speaker configuration. Because JVC engineered the RX-7040B with an eye on the future, the unit supports DVD multichannel audio for connection to existing and future multichannel sources such as DVD audio. A high-performance Motorola 160 MIPS (million instructions per second) 24/48-bit DSP delivers sound with incredible clarity and realism. A digital acoustics processor (DAP) offers seven multichannel preset sound fields and eight two-channel presets, so you can simulate a wide range of listening environments.

These days, a dizzying array of digital sound encoding formats make it difficult to know if you're getting the most out of your home theater. Luckily, the RX-7040B has all the bases covered. Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES, DTS 96/24, DTS NEO:6, DTS Discrete 6.1, Matrix 6.1 and Dolby Prologic II decoders are all embedded in the unit so you can experience your DVDs and other digital media the way they were meant be experienced. A virtual surround feature lets you playback 6.1 channels (6 channels plus the mid, low-range channel) without adding a surround back speaker. If you only want to run two speakers with the RX-7040B, the "3D-Phonic" virtual surround sound feature simulates dramatic home theater sound with just two front speakers.

Connections abound on the back of the RX-7040B. Video inputs include three composite video inputs, three S-video inputs and two component video inputs. Video outputs include three composite video outputs, two S-video outputs and one component output. For those with multiple video sources, the unit supports high bandwidth component video switching compatible with standard definition TV and all high-definition TV formats. The audio department includes assignable digital inputs (three optical, one coaxial) that you can designate to any digital source. There's also one optical digital output. Analog audio connections include five inputs and two outputs. Speaker connections feature banana plugs for easy connections and there is a set of second room speaker terminals.

An included multibrand A/V remote control operates other brands of cable set-top boxes, VCRs, TVs, DVD players, and satellite receivers. And because video still hasn't killed the radio star, the RX-7040B features an AM/FM tuner with 15 AM and 30 FM station presets.

Amazon.com Product Description

The design equivalent of the HX-GX8 but without the DVD player, the JVC HX-GX7 is still packed with features for the discerning music fan. The portable 550-watt audio system is particular suited to people with a taste for thumping bass, as its speaker system includes not only twin 80-watt main speakers (each with two 5.38-inch cone woofers and a 2-inch cone tweeter), but two 195-watt Hyper Power Drive subwoofers. The overall effect is vast and powerful, giving listeners the ability to liven up a backyard, picnic area, or beach with dance-club-like audio ("dance club" is even one of the three live surround modes, along with hall and stadium). The system comes with a five-disc CD changer with play exchange (plays the current CD while the user adds others), in addition to an AM/FM tuner and a full-logic dual dubbing cassette deck with CD synchro start recording.

The speakers and main unit combine to deliver rich, full-bodied audio for everything from CDs to CD-R/RWs to MP3s. The flexibility extends to the music modes--one each for pop, rock, and classic, plus three custom choices. Other user favorites include a programmable wakeup and sleep timer; a demo mode; Compu play; continuous, random, and repeat play for one or all five discs; and a rotary encoder volume control. Signal transfer is coordinated by the 1-bit dual DAC.

The center unit of the HX-GX7 is compact and easy to transport, though the robust speakers are a bit bulky, each weighing nearly 30 pounds. The system is designed as a standalone unit, so it's not equipped with a wealth of inputs and outputs, though it does include a headphone jack.

If style, quality, and convenience is what your searching for, the JVC GRD200 MiniDV camcorder is your answer to these needs and more. The GRD200 features a 1.33-megapixel CCD for superior video (540 Lines of resolution) and still photos (1600 x 1200), a bright 2.5-inch LCD, 200x digital zoom, a powerful software package, and much more.

Optics
The GRD200 features a high-performance 1/4-inch 1.3-megapixel CCD to capture high-quality video and digital photos. It's also fitted with a 10x optical zoom lens as well as a 200x digital hyper zoom with spline interpolation.

Digital zoom is a powerful tool, but it can lead to "jaggies"--zigzag contours that reduce picture quality. JVC has adopted spline interpolation to mathematically smooth such contours, making them look more natural. And since frame signals, not field signals, are processed, vertical resolution is increased, also improving quality.

Digital Stills and MPEG Video
In addition to high-quality video, the GRD200 also captures digital still photos in four resolution modes: 1600 x 1200 (UXGA), 1280 x 960 (SXGA), 1024 x 768 (XGA) or 640 x 480 (VGA). The images are stored on the included 8 MB MultiMedia card (MMC) or optional Secure Digital (SD) memory cards.

You can also record small video clips (160 x 120 pixels) for distribution to friends and family over e-mail or the Internet using the MPEG-4 format feature. Video clips can be recorded from the real-time camera image or recorded video footage and stored on a the memory card. With the included 8 MB MMC card, you can record up to 7 minutes of MPEG-4 video.

More Features

  • 2.5-inch 110k-pixel amorphous silicon LCD view screen and color viewfinder
  • The Picture Stabilizer system corrects camera shake instantly, giving you smooth and stable pictures.
  • A combination of built-in Digital Special Effects and Wipes/Fades will give your videos a polished and professional look.
  • PCM Digital Stereo Sound: 16-bit offers one set of stereo tracks and achieves the same quality as CD, while the 12-bit mode creates two sets of stereo tracks.
  • Analog Input: allows you to record into the camcorder all of your memories recorded in the analog format, by allowing you to archive them onto Mini DV tape
  • Power Linked Operation: prepares the camera to record simply by opening the LCD or pulling out the viewfinder
Inputs and Outputs
The GRD200 comes with the standard IEEE 1394 port (also referred to as FireWire), which provides a lossless connection to a PC or other DV machines. Additionally, the GRD200 includes a standard A/V cable to view video footage on your TV and a USB cable for transferring digital stills to your PC.

MiniDV Format
MiniDV is the preferred format for personal and broadcast-quality video, highly regarded for its high audio and image quality. With up to 540 lines of horizontal resolution and minimum color noise, MiniDV delivers a 20-percent clearer picture than analog camcorder formats. This is all delivered on a cassette that's 1/12th the size of a standard VHS tape. A MiniDV tape offers digital recording time of 2 full hours--20 times the capacity of a CD.

Power, Size, and Contents
The GRD200 comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack. The camera itself measures 2.5 by 3.75 by 4.8 inches and weighs 17 ounces. This package includes the GRD200 camcorder, battery pack, AC adapter, remote control, shoulder strap, USB and A/V cables, 8 MB MMC memory card, and a CD-ROM with software. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good overall for the price
I like:
The $500 price is right for the package: small palm handed camcorder size / movie quality / features / battery life. Pictures can be stored on memory card. Wide angle feature is cool. You can transfer old VHS tapes to DVD also.

I didn't like:
Very poor quality in low light (worse than my previous old VHS camcorder) and there's no light (just a flash for pictures) - pictures are 1.3MB but quality is poor and you need to use a switch before taking pictures to the memory card - otherwise it's a "picture-on-tape" - even lower quality.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Product! Small Size and Quality
Excellent performing, and ergonomically correct, and easy to use Camcorder. The 1.33 mg,1/4"ccd,performs better indoors than all others. For low light use,use Indoor AGC in menu.Colors are more vibrant on this camera.Has full manual control set,but auto controls work well.Prints very good 4x6 pictures in still mode.Best little cam out their in this size and price range. THE ONLY REAL PROBLEM WAS MOTOR NOISE. ON VERY QUIET PASSAGES OF FOOTAGE, THERE IS AN AUDIBLE HUM ON OUR RECORDED FOOTAGE. SHOULD YOU BE RECORDING LARGE PASSAGES OF FOOTAGE IN A HUSHED ENVIRONMENT, YOU MIGHT FIND THIS A LITTLE TOO MUCH TO BEAR. "I DID". I will email JVC to see if they will fix this problem. 1/31/2004.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Video & Stills, Really Comfortable Small Size
I expected good video from this JVC and it delivers, but what has really impressed me are the megapixel digital stills. I took my memory card to Walgreens and printed out several 4" X 6" prints and they looked great!

The cam is also very comfortable to hold. The strap adjusts to fit larger hands and the controls are all right where they should be. I also like the color viewfinder.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product!
Great product, great design, very good value in the class. Video and photo quality is very good as promised. It's very easy to use and hook up to PC or TV/VCR. So many features and so much fun! Love it.

Longer battery life is desired, it only lasts about one hour. JVC has optional long-lasting battery. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great quality, especially for the price.
..... I love it. The picture and sound quality are great, I dont think I could ask for more.

The battery it comes with is good for over an hour, which easily covers a 60 minute tape. Thats better than the default battery you get with a lot of other camcorders which are often in the 30-45 minute range. It lacks the remote control and USB/memory card you get with the 2 higher (and more expensive) models, but thats fine by me. It can still take stills, but its not a function I have any interest in. If I want good stills, I have a 2.2MP Kodak for that. Pretty much everyone knows by now that you dont get good stills off a camcorder, just as you dont get good video off a still cam. If its an included secondary feature, then fine, but dont expect the quality you get with a more dedicated device. I got this for the video, and its a wonderful thing.

It doesnt do too well in really low light, of course I wasnt really expecting otherwise. I have yet to ever see a digital camcorder that actually does great with inadequet light. It has a night mode, which does greatly increase the lighting, but it drops the frame rate terribly. It has another "backlight" function that can be handy for less than optimal lighting. But in reasonable-good lighting, you get wonderfull piture quality. It has a nice selection of transition effects built in, I still have yet to explore them all. The 16x optical zoom is cool. Its more than enough for me. The size of the unit is nice, not too big and not too small - similar in shape/size to the canon ZR series, only this thing is of higher quality than the canon counterparts, especially where audio is concerned.

Now, Im sure this isnt the ideal model for everyone in every situation, but for the price, you'd be hard pressed to get this kind of quality elsewhere. There are $$$$ models that cant compare to this, so Im happy with the buy. Its pretty easy to use. Not too much of a learning curve. Not so many buttons that you get lost. Manual/automatic choices. Yeah, its a nice piece of work and I was surprised at how affordable it was. I would recommend this to most people.

3-0 out of 5 stars good value, if it doesn't break
I bought this model JVC mini DV camcorder one year ago when it was first released. The price then was $375 after a $25 rebate, great price I add. At around November of that year the camera locked up into "Condensation, Operation Paused" mode. I didn't know what to do, and the Authorized JVC location wanted a lot of money to just look at the camera, not fix it. I read online that putting a blow dryer on it and leaving it plugged in and on for one hour will allow the camera to clear up the condensation. It worked, but the camera started to go into that mode over and over, until it was in a perpetual locked mode. After leaving it plugged in a week, it suddenly became fine, and here I am a day later it appears to be fine now. This camera shoots great video except in low-light situations which is fine but I find it unreliable. I went on a trip and it never worked, but it works now, weird.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice camcorder but unreliable
I've owned this camcorder for just over a year but have only used it for about 10 hours recording time. Now I keep getting a message :'Operation paused, condensation, please wait.' It doesn't go away, no longer how long I wait and I can't use the camcorder as a result. I now have to send it to a repair centre at my own cost to have it fixed, if it can be at all. I like the camcorder itself, it's easy to use etc, but it's unreliable and I'm sorry I didn't pay more money for a more reliable model. It's put me off buying any more JVC products and I think I'll stick to the Sonys or Canons etc, in future.

1-0 out of 5 stars Look before you leap.
I purchased this camera 4 months ago. Only used it 3 times. The last time I tried to use the camera, I got an e04 error code. The camera told me to eject and reinstall the tape. The camera won't eject the tape. I did some looking around the internet and found a lot of customers unhappy with JVC camcorders in general. Labor part of warrenty is up. It will cost me $75.00 just to have the camera looked at.

1-0 out of 5 stars Defective?
I've had two of this product in a six month time span. Both stopped working with the SAME error message. The part is under warranty, but labor is not included! It's over 200.00 to fix. I advise EXTREME caution if you decide to buy a JVC camcorder. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Why settle for a standard-sized television when JVC's 36-inch, high-quality AV-36F475 is this affordable? The silver set is loaded with innovative home-theater features like black-level expansion and a Real Flat CRT with an Invar shadow mask to render detailed, high-contrast images with no geometric distortion. The set's stereo speakers are powered by a generous 7.5 watts each.

The AV-36F475's 3-line digital comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt). A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture. An Apacon circuit further enhances low-level details for greater picture sharpness.

With 16:9 raster compression mode, you can watch anamorphic DVDs in their true 16:9 format--the TV uses all scan lines for the picture within the letter box area so that anamorphic widescreen DVDs display in their proper resolution.

The AV-36F475 receives not only stereo broadcasts, but Second Audio Programming (or SAP), too, and you always have Hyper Surround to simulate surround sound from any two speakers. BBE High-Definition Audio improves speech intelligibility and restores the dynamic range of compressed musical passages.

Top-of-the-line component-video inputs accept video from compatible DVD players and satellite systems, while S-video and standard RCA composite-video inputs accommodate most other video sources. The set offers a total of 3 audio/video inputs, one of which is built into the front panel so you can hook up a VCR, camcorder, or gaming console. A rear-panel RF input accommodates older VCRs, cable boxes, and antennas. Want to listen through your stereo system? Use the set's stereo, fixed-level analog-audio outputs.

A multifunction timer turns the TV on and off for you when you're not home or works as an alarm clock or program reminder; a sleep timer saves energy by turning off the set after you've nodded off. Other features include an interactive plug-in menu, half-tone onscreen display, channel guard, and V-Chip parental controls, closed captioning with text display, XDS (Extended Data Service) auto clock set with ID display, and a full-function, universal remote with DVD control ability.
