2-0 out of 5 stars lacks durability, not for young kids
We were very happy with this TV/VCR when we first received it. It was very easy to use and quite portable. But then after 2 weeks the play button on the front panel stopped working. A week later as I was getting ready to take it to the repair shop, my daughter stuck some crayons in the VCR slot. When I took it into the repair shop, the receptionist said not to worry about it, kids stick stuff in VCRs all the time and it's not that big a deal. Well the next day I got a call from the repair shop saying the unit was so badly damaged from the crayons that it couldn't be fixed. He said the power supply was blown, the gears broken, and a few other things. If we had bought a regular TV with a separate VCR, we would now at least still have the TV, but as it is we're back to being a single TV family. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The DVD623AT plays all movies and music, providing the flexibility of MP3-CD playback, 80-disc lockout for premium parental control, and five-disc resume to pick up where you left off on recently viewed discs. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs help minimize line scan and digital artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television.

A single set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each coaxial and optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: 3D sound generates 5.1-channel surround sound from any stereo source.

Playback options include multi-speed smooth scan and slow motion, frame advance, DVD and CD programming and repeat modes (disc, title, chapter, track, A-B), DVD and CD random play, screen saver, and picture zoom. The player comes with a composite-video/stereo analog-audio interconnect, user's manual, and a universal remote control (with batteries). ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good player for the price
I just got this one at K-Mart, I had a panasonic s47 which was freezing after a couple of DVD's, so when I saw this one for $49.99 i just can 't wait.
I have Yahama home theatre receiver, I hooked it up up and its playing well, but one small problem, I have to use dtv/cbl input of the receiver for the optical input from the player, somehow the dvd input just didn't work.
I use S-Video out put for video, and it is great, colors are just perfect.
Overall it seems to be a good player for the price, I have my doubt, that you get any player with a optical output for this cost.
Go for it it guys !! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A solid investment
Making the move from laptop to 27" TV DVD has been a thoroughly enlightening experience. This entry level Magnavox player does the job...it played The Matrix and Sleepy Hollow without a hitch. It froze on one movie, until I cleaned a highly used rental disk with dishwashing liquid and hot water, taking the oily fingerprints off it and allowing it to play smoothly. Sound is ravishing, even without the S-video and digital audio hooked up (my old Sony TV doesn't have such connections). And what a price, esp. with the coupons available these days.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a good, inexpensive DVD player with few frills
When I was searching for info on DVD players I found a few reviews on other web-sites from consumers who had this DVD player and complained that it skipped. Therefore, I bought it with the understanding that it might not met my needs. It has performed wodnerfully. I have not experienced any skipping or other problems with the player. With that said it is a very basic DVD player. There aren't any fancy frills on it, but I wasn't really looking for any. I wanted something that was easy to use, had a component video and audio output, and would do a reliable job of playing my favorite movies. The 621 does that at a price that I liked.

1-0 out of 5 stars Keep looking...unless you want a disposable DVD player.
I'm glad to see that I am not the only one who has had problems with this machine. It worked great for months (but much less than a year) then suddenly it would no longer play discs. I took the cover off to see if there was anything I could possibly fix and a piece had totally come loose, the main part responsible for spinning the disc. Needless to say it was beyond my help. It's dumpster material now. Please don't waste your money, too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disposable DVD player-
This dvd player worked fine for about 7 months starting last January, and then started to exhibit a small amount of occasional skipping, and would freeze up every so often. Player would become frighteningly hot during/after playing a movie. It is now fully non-functional, a movie will skip constantly- there is no point to even try to play one. All of the reviews are true, this machine is an honest LEMON. Amazon.com needs to add a no-star rating, one star was far too generous.

1-0 out of 5 stars horrible!
Skips/Freezes on disks. Just when you get into a movie it will freeze/skip so horribly that you cannont continue watching. We didn't discover this until after the 6 month warranty ran out and Philips' solution was for us to pay ...for them to replace it with the same defective model. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Freezes With Every Movie
I bought this DVD Player last month and it would freeze on every movie I'd watch. Sometimes it would stop then start then stop and start again. Other times it just froze solid and I'd have to turn off the power because none of the controls would work. I returned it and got a replacement unit hoping it was just a bad single unit, but the replacement unit had the same problem. Tomorrow it goes back to the store for good. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The CCA192AT TV/VCR's compact size belies its powerful and convenient feature set. Its lightweight, 19-inch screen make it perfect for kitchens, bedrooms, and dormitories, while its front-panel audio/video input accommodates a camcorder, game console, or second VCR quickly and easily. A full auto-feature package includes power on, digital auto tracking, auto play, auto repeat, auto rewind, auto eject, auto head cleaner, and auto power off.

The unit comes with standard eight-event, one-year programming for the VCR, and ShowGuard timer/programmer backup memory keeps all your timer/programming safe, even through power outages. Meanwhile, SmartClock with time-zone select maintains the correct time, regularly checking and updating the time if necessary. It also resets the clock after a power failure. Daylight-savings time adjustment automatically compensates for daylight savings in early April and late October so you don't have to reset the clock twice a year; just "set it and forget it."

When tape playback begins, digital auto tracking seeks the optimum video and audio tracking positions for the clearest picture and sound. With automatic channel setup, the VCR tuner scans through television frequencies, automatically storing active broadcast channels into memory. Then, only channels programmed into memory are tuned using the channel up/down buttons on either the remote or front panel. Automatic channel preset can be repeated whenever desired, and you can always add or delete channels manually.

Other features include closed-captioning, bilingual (English/Spanish) onscreen display, onscreen real-time counter (indicates record/playback functions, channel number, clock setting, date, counter, programming, one-touch record, and record standby), a sleep/wake timer, a monaural earphone jack for private listening, A-B and indefinite repeat play, a rapid-start mechanism, memory rewind/off, and 15x forward/reverse search.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for your buck
If you're like me, still hopelessly attatched to the VHS format, this TV/VCR combo is a great value. It's priced more cheaply than most of it's 13 inch rivals, but it's proven to be dependable, and has a nice clear picture. If you're tired of too many remotes and cords (or even hate having to switch to channel 3 or 4 to view your film) this set is perfect. Set-up was a breeze and it's user-friendly all the way. The VCR recording options are a little limited--you can't watch one program while recording another, but if you just want a simple set with a clear television picture and a great VCR, this Phillips is hard to beat.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy a Magnavox
... I have this TV/VCR combo and it is horrible. The pictureis great, and the size is great but it does not work. In the timethat I have had it, it has completely stopped working three times and Philips Magnavox will not take responsibility for defective merchandise! Save your money and buy a better product! END

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product for the price
From the varity of TV/VCR combos out there, this one by far has the greatest picture.

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't imagine a better value
Three people on my mother's side of the family purchased this gem of a TV/VCR, and after discovering the value of it, I bought a CCA192AT for myself. The picture quality is brilliant. The sound quality is even better than the 27 inch TV I have in the living room. I think Philips/Magnavox really outdid themselves... Exceptional price with the usual exceptional quality. I've had no trouble with it whatsoever. The VCR plays videos as good as I've seen and the remote control rewinds and fastforwards very quickly. Sorry to ramble, but I'm extremely satisfied with all aspects of the CCA192AT!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great TV/VCR with a rock solid picture.
I own a Sony 36XBR200, which I consider to have the best picture on the market. I just bought this Philips for my niece and am just wow'd by the picture. Also, the pause, slow motion, speed search/rewind search are flawless. Programming for timeshifting is a snap. A great product at a great price! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Philips 32-inch 32PT543S offers a large, high-contrast image, abundant connections for your other home-entertainment equipment, and convenient features to enhance your viewing. A hallmark of the set, its QuadraSurf remote control lets you personalize and customize your channel surfing and TV viewing by family member or program theme. QuadraSurf delivers your favorite television shows at the press of a button.

The 32PT543S's digital comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate most other audio/video gear, from DVD players to satellite receivers, digital video recorders, video game consoles, cable boxes, and VCRs. You can choose between rear AV inputs and a set of side AV inputs for spontaneous hookups, including a side-panel headphone jack for private listening.

Other 32PT543S features include a 240-minute sleep timer, AutoPicture (which optimizes brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness), AutoLock (which uses V-Chip technology for parental control), and AutoSound (which lets you select settings for voice, music, movies, or custom). Incredible Surround simulates surround sound from the set's two speakers, while bass and treble controls let you adjust the sound to your taste.

Amazon Product Description

Delivering a high-performance, big-screen image from a casing with a depth of little more than 4 inches, Philips' widescreen, high-definition-ready 30PF9975/17 is stylish enough--and still small enough--to place in any room of the house. The 30-inch set offers high brightness (450 cd/m3) and high contrast (350:1), as well as an integrated TV tuner for cable or broadcast reception of all your favorite programs. Hook it up to an optional DTV receiver or progressive-scan DVD player and you'll enjoy vivid, detailed images from 1080i, 720p, and 480p sources, which render at up to 720p resolution on the set's native 1,024 x 768-pixel screen.

Philips' Dynamic Contrast technology optimizes the contrast of the picture by stretching the white, gray, and black levels.

LCD technology allows screens to be thinner and televisions to be lighter and more energy-efficient than ever before. The result is television that not only fits on a wall, but fits in places conventional televisions cannot. The 30PF9975/17's comes outfitted with Digital Crystal Clear III technology, a suite of picture innovations including Dynamic Contrast, a comb filter, and advanced, 10-bit processing. Further, Digital Natural Motion eliminates motion judder from film-based sources such as DVDs for natural, distortion-free viewing.

All standard-definition interlaced video signals are treated to Philips' PixelPlus line doubling, which turns them into near-high-definition (HD) images. By doubling the number of lines and the number of pixels per line, PixelPlus enhances both regular TV broadcasts and DVD inputs for unparalleled sharpness and depth.

A feature called Active Control Plus continually adjusts picture settings at over 60 times per second for all inputs, correcting both sharpness and noise reduction, even adjusting for changes in ambient viewing light.

SmartSound lets you select from 3 factory-set controls (movie, music, and speech) and a personal control that you set according to your preferences. A center-channel input lets you use the TV's speakers in conjunction with your multichannel home speaker system in place of an additional center speaker, and a subwoofer output affords simple hookup with a powered sub for dynamic, full-bodied sound even without use of an audio/video receiver.

Auto Color, one of the features of Active Control, measures the color content of the incoming signal and adjusts it to predefined ideal values.

The set pumps a hefty 10 watts per channel x 2, and onboard Dolby Virtual Surround simulates enveloping surround sound from any 2 speakers, while the audio volume leveler keeps the TV sound at an even level for a more consistent, comfortable sound. The unit's .125-inch headphone jack features its very own volume control.

Audio/video inputs include a direct-digital DVI input, 1 component-video (switchable between HD/standard-definition), 2 S-video, and 3 composite-video connections, as well as a VGA computer input, which--apart from its native pixel resolution--offers the following multimedia modes: VGA 640 x 480 (60 Hz), VGA 1,024 x 768 (60 Hz), and SVGA 800 x 600 (56 Hz). A composite-video-based audio/video output facilitates hookup with a surround receiver or integrated amplifier.

The supplied infrared remote control works your TV and other remote-controlled devices such as VCRs, DVD players, cable converters, and satellite receivers.

Amazon.com Review

The upscale VRA671 AT is Philips's topnotch home-theater VCR. This unit offers such welcome amenities as a four-head tape transport; hi-fi stereo sound; one-touch recording; VCR Plus+ (which simplifies recording by allowing you to input program codes from your local TV listings); front-panel camcorder inputs; a Smart Picture control; an automated clock setting; head cleaning; and tuner setup. As if this list of goodies wasn't long enough, the VRA671 AT adds front-panel access to the excellent onscreen menus, a ShowGuard perpetual timer-recording memory system, and a more comprehensive display panel.

The VRA671 also includes a first-rate remote control unit: the most frequently used keys are backlit, making them accessible in a darkened room. If you tend to misplace things, you'll appreciate the remote locator, which prompts the handset to beep for 30 seconds when you push the VCR's power button.

Throughout our evaluations, the VRA671 AT functioned flawlessly; its transport responded to commands instantly and it had less motor noise than most other VCRs we've tested. Better still, both audio and video performance were surprisingly good for a unit in this price range. Special effects--fast-, slow-, and still-frame playback--were exceptionally clear and stable.

This machine impressed us with its natural color rendition on rental tapes. Flesh tones were neither too red nor too muted, and landscape scenes portrayed grass in natural shades of green. Image sharpness was also quite good, as demonstrated by the fine reproduction of small details.

If you think all VCRs sound the same, the VR671 AT will change your mind. In both record and playback modes, voices sounded less artificial or "electronic" than they often do through other machines. Not surprisingly, those big-ticket action films sound their best with the VRA671 AT. Even the tuner section sounded great, as we discovered when using this player to enjoy network television broadcasts.

Whether you're buying a VCR as the nucleus of a home theater, to record favorite programs, or simply to babysit the kids, Philips's VR-671 AT will meet or surpass your expectations. --Anthony Chiarella

5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I Ever Wanted
I had owned a Magnavox (now Philips-Magnavox) VCR for several years, and being the loyalist that I am I shopped for another P.M. model when my old VCR decided to quit displaying a picture while playing a tape. I came across the VRA671AT while I was shopping here. It has all the features I swore I would not go without -- commercial skip, fast rewind, non-erasable memory, and of course excellent variable speed playback. I have always had excellent luck with Philips Magnavox products (I also have a P.M. DVD player), and I expect to have the same success with the new VRA671AT. I find the memory feature especially useful since I make good use of the event programming function at night since I get the "honor" of working many late shifts, and my house has its ample share of power "glitches". I would have no reservations whatsoever recommending this VCR to anyone who is looking for a quality VCR in the mid-price range, with nearly all of the features of the more expensive models of VCR's that are available...... ... Amazon.com Product Description

The MRV700R from Magnavox combines a full-featured DVD player with the quality and convenience of both DVD+R/+RW and VHS (NTSC, PAL, SECAM) recording and playback. Great for small-scale entertainment systems and back-room or bedroom service, the MRV700R lets you archive your home movies and edit favorite scenes to share with loved ones: use recordable DVD+R and rerecordable DVD+RW media for compiling home-video highlights or for storing TV programs, then mail them to loved ones.

You can also time-shift your TV viewing, using the unit's programmable timer to schedule programs to record on either VHS tape or DVD, depending on your priorities. The MRV700R stores up to 6 hours of audio and video on a single-sided recordable DVD at varying quality levels, from sub-VHS quality to VHS/S-VHS quality, DVD quality, and full DV quality.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the MRV700R stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs during playback. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The MRV700R also performs 3:2 pulldown detection. DVD mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; reverse 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

The unit's front panel sports a set of inputs for your temporary or spontaneous A/V connections. A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Picture
This is a great TV set 25 inches and all. The picture is very good and the VCR section just makes it all the much better. The VCR performs very well for a TV-combination unit. It's just as good as if you patched in a separate VCR. Outstanding!

3-0 out of 5 stars Warning two thirds of the world tapes will not play on this
The world is divided in regions and the tape manufacturers only produce tapes for that region. A tape available from amazon.uk.co can only play on recorders of type PAL. Other world locations use SECAM. Only the US and Canada uses NTSC format. If you buy "Dead Man's Folly" from the United Kingdom, you can not play it on this VCR. Place VCR and pal in the search box and press "go!"

So far the Samsung SV-5000w VCR is the only one on the list you can also place the ASIN number in the search box B00004TEUK

Samsung SV-5000w also plays the NTSC

3-0 out of 5 stars Good player, bad manual and menus
I have not had any issues since instaling this DVD player. The picture and sound are very good. The manual and on-screen setup menus are very weak. I am very technical and had to wing my way to getting this thing to work. If you want to play MPEGS on this player you need to check the compatability.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great DVD
After researching several DVD players we settled on Philips due to the fact that we have a Philips TV. So far its been great. No problem with movies or music cds, easy to hook up, set-up and install. Intutive instructions and display, good remote. If you are willing to spend the money you'll have a good piece of equipment that will last.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet DVD Player
This here is the best dvd player on amazon. It's not too expensive and it's got everything that you'll need. Nice remote and it won't screw up your tv like other ones do. This is an average price for an awesome system. If I were you I would buy it! Right away! ... Read more
