Amazon.com Product Description The three-way satellites and the center-channel speaker all use acoustic-suspension designs for clear sound with taut, uncolored sound. All employ dual drivers with a coaxial, .5-inch tweeter mounted on one of them and all are capable of handling amplifier power up to 120 watts. The complete system is finished in silver for great looks as well as great sound. Magnetic shielding on all speakers permits placement near TVs and computer monitors with no risk of image distortion. The speakers' amazing high-frequency response extends to 60,000 Hz. The 75-watt, 8-inch subwoofer packs the most "under the hood," so to speak, with Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST) generating incredible bass from its small enclosure. Advanced YST uses negative-impedance feedback in the amp and a Helmholtz resonator in the speaker to provide strong and accurate bass. QD-Bass (Quatre Dispersion Bass) technology uses a down-firing driver with square, pyramid-shaped reflective plates to radiate sound efficiently in four horizontal directions. The reflective plates (not used in other brands' down-firing subwoofers) negate any effects caused by the floor surface and reduce resonance between sound waves reflected from the floor and the unit. Most other systems use circular cones, but the YST-SW030, by radiating in four directions, avoids firing sound into the legs of the cabinet. Changing the height of the pyramid varies the acoustic load, permitting relatively simple high-cut adjustment and improving bandpass properties. QD-Bass also grants greater freedom of placement, since the sound radiates with equal effectiveness in all directions. The sub's individual volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system. The YST-SW030 has a signal-sensing circuit, too. When the subwoofer detects an audio signal, it turns its power on. When it senses no signal for several minutes, it shuts itself off. Yamaha's BASS (Bass Action Selector Switch) tailors the sub's output for video or music at the touch of a switch. The sub accepts a line-level RCA input only, and a handy phase normal/reverse switch makes it easy to phase the subwoofer with the other speakers in the system (room placement greatly affects phase relationships). Amazon.com Product Description The powerful HTR-5730 receiver accepts the DVD player's Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS 5.1-channel surround signals and routes each channel to its designated speaker. Additionally, the receiver's Silent Cinema and Night Listening modes enhance headphone and low-level listening, respectively, while Yamaha's 32-bit Cinema-DSP processing gives you an additional 24 surround effects to enhance your movies and music. With the HTR-5730's 5.1-channel analog inputs, you're ready for high-resolution DVD-Audio/SACD playback, too, whether from your current disc player(s) or from any future devices to which you might upgrade. The receiver offers a total of 4 AV inputs, and its tuner section offers 40-station AM/FM preset tuning. The 6-speaker complement includes the 5-speaker NS-AP1500 for the front, center, and surround speakers and Yamaha's YST-SW010 subwoofer for deep bass, which is important for effective home theater sound. Each speaker in the NS-AP1500 ensemble uses a sealed, acoustic-suspension design with dual 2.5-inch pulp-cone woofers. The center speaker is specially configured for TV placement and--as it handles upwards of 70 percent of a movie's audio, including most voices--it's engineered for slightly more full-bodied sound than the other speakers. The 100-watt, 6.5-inch subwoofer uses a spruce-cone driver and Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST), generating incredible bass from its small enclosure. Advanced YST uses negative-impedance feedback in the amp and a Helmholtz resonator in the speaker to provide strong and accurate bass. QD-Bass (Quatre Dispersion Bass) technology uses a down-firing driver with square, pyramid-shaped reflective plates to radiate sound with equal effectiveness in all directions. The sub's individual volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system. The sub has a signal-sensing circuit, too. When it detects an audio signal, it powers right up. When it senses no signal for several minutes, it shuts itself off. All speakers included with the YHT-150 feature magnetic shielding, so they can be placed near a TV or monitor and cause no picture degradation. What's in the Box Features Reviews (1)
Sound is acceptable, for a $300 unit. I don't think anyone would mistake it for a much costlier piece of equipment, but for what I consider a bargain-basement home theatre system, it's pretty good. The Sub stays busy, even while watching golf. I am disappointed that my digital cable system did not have a fiber optic output from the box, but that is a different issue, and obviously not the fault of the Yamaha. The interface to set your system settings is a little cumbersome. It took me a number of attempts to successfully define my speaker landscape, room size, and all that. I do appreciate that the remote seems quite capable of subsuming the responsibilities of other remotes. It was easy to get it to I'll try to update my review after a few months with the system. ... Amazon.com Product Description The satellites and the center-channel speaker all use acoustic-suspension designs with dual 2-inch drivers and a coaxial .5-inch tweeter mounted on one of the drivers. All are capable of handling amplifier power up to 100 watts (30 watts nominal power), and the complete system is finished in piano black for great looks as well as great sound. The powered sub packs the most "under the hood," so to speak, with Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST) generating incredible bass from its small enclosure. Most other systems use circular cones, but the YST-SW015, by radiating in four directions, avoids firing sound into the legs of the cabinet. Changing the height of the pyramid varies the acoustic load, permitting relatively simple high-cut adjustment and improving bandpass properties. QD-Bass also grants greater freedom of placement, since the sound radiates with equal effectiveness in all directions. The user-adjustable, variable high-cut filter sets the highest frequency the subwoofer will deliver. It can be set anywhere from 50 to 150 Hz. For instance, if the filter is set at 75 Hz, only frequencies 75 Hz or below will be delivered by the subwoofer. This allows the sub's output to be matched to the lowest reproducible frequency of the other speakers in the system and the room's acoustics for a seamless presentation. The rotary volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system. The YST-SW015 has a signal-sensing circuit, too. Amazon.com Product Description The RX-SL100 is a powerful receiver that accepts the DVD player's Dolby Digital and Dolby EX, and DTS/DTS-ES/DTS Neo:6 surround signals (5.1- and 6.1-channel formats) and routes each channel to its designated speaker. Dolby Pro Logic IIx generates discrete multichannel surround sound from any stereo source. The receiver uses a highly efficient digital amplifier which delivers high power and low distortion from a chassis much smaller than that of a traditional A/V receiver. Additionally, the receiver's Silent Cinema and Night Listening modes enhance headphone and low-level listening, respectively, while Yamaha's 32-bit Cinema-DSP processing gives you an additional 28 surround effects to enhance your movies and music. Front-panel audio/video inputs (including an optical digital-audio in) make it easy to play games or view camcorder footage through your theater, and the receiver offers a total of 5 A/V inputs. The tuner section offers 40-station AM/FM preset tuning. Yamaha's DV-SL100 spins DVD-Video, VCD, SVCD, CD-R/CD-RW, DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW, MP3, and JPEG (multisession) CDs, putting most types of audio and video media at your disposal. The versatile player will even render region-free European PAL-formatted discs on NTSC televisions, and vice-versa. The player features both interlaced (for standard TVs) and progressive-scan component-video outputs (for use with compatible HD or HD-ready TVs). Other features include picture zoom, shuffle play, repeat play, and five-disc resume. The 7-speaker complement includes the 6-speaker NS-AP9500 for the front, center, and surround speakers and Yamaha's YST-SW030 subwoofer for deep bass, which is important for effective home theater sound. Each 3-way speaker in the NS-AP9500 ensemble uses a sealed, acoustic-suspension design with Quad 4-inch high-compliance pulp-cone woofers and a .75-inch soft-dome tweeter. The 130-watt, 8-inch subwoofer offers Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST), which generates incredible bass from its small enclosure. Advanced YST uses negative-impedance feedback in the amp and a Helmholtz resonator in the speaker to provide strong and accurate bass. Amazon.com Product Description Be aware, however, that the system requires a 6.1-channel receiver for full enjoyment. If you're already set up for 5.1 sound (without the rear center-channel output), don't sweat it--you'll still get terrific performance (and you can always store one of the system's five satellite speakers for later on). The satellites and the center-channel speaker all use acoustic-suspension designs with dual 2-inch drivers, and all are capable of handling amplifier power up to 100 watts (30 watts nominal power). The powered sub packs the most "under the hood," so to speak, with Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST) generating incredible bass from its small enclosure. Advanced YST uses negative-impedance feedback in the amp and a Helmholtz resonator in the speaker to provide strong and accurate bass. The user-adjustable high-cut filter, with settings for "high" and "low," sets the highest frequency the subwoofer will deliver. This allows the sub's output to be matched to the lowest reproducible frequency of the other speakers in the system and the room's acoustics for a seamless presentation. A rotary volume control permits the perfect matching of the sub's output to the overall volume of the system. The YST-SW005 has a signal-sensing circuit, too. When the subwoofer detects an audio signal, it turns its power on. When it senses no signal for several minutes, it shuts itself off. Two sets of inputs let the sub accept either line- or speaker-level inputs, while a handy phase normal/reverse switch makes it easy to phase the subwoofer with the other speakers in your system (room placement greatly affects phase relationships). Amazon.com Product Description Capable of storing around 1,000 CDs (using MP3 compression at a very listenable 160 kbps), the MCX-1000's self-contained 80 GB hard drive provides instant access to a vast array of your favorite music. The server's bits are yours to configure: save your music in CD-quality linear PCM digital audio (it'll hold an impressive 133 hours of CD-quality audio) or convert it internally to MP3 at rates of 160, 256, or 320 kbps. The server has its own disc drive--which records CDs as well as playing them--and analog and digital external audio inputs in case you want to load material from LPs, cassettes, or other sources. The versatile built-in CD recorder lets you save your music to the server at lightning-fast speeds, create your own CD compilations, or simply play your collections of MP3 CDs. The device supports multiple bit rates in addition to variable-bit-rate (VBR) MP3 files. Storing from CD to the hard drive is easy and fully automated. Once a disc is loaded, a music-recognition database provided by Gracenote CDDB will bring up all the information associated with that disc, such as artist, album, track names, and even musical genre. Press "start" and the server will add the album to the library with nothing left for you to do but sit back and enjoy it. With Internet access (via an optional broadband router), the system is designed to let you obtain the latest CD recognition data from a Gracenote CDDB Server. Features Reviews (2)

1. For some reason the Yamaha Universal remote control that comes with 5540 AV receiver does not seem to control the Yamaha's own high end DVD player that came with YHT-800!! In fact, I had no problem programming Samsung DVD player with the Yamaha receiver. Overall, I like the YHT-800 system and hope to resolve remote control issues with Yamaha tech support. Amazon.com Product Description The HTR-5740 is a powerful and versatile tuner and receiver that accepts a DVD player's Dolby Digital and Dolby EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, and DTS/DTS-ES surround signals (5.1- and 6.1-channel formats) and routes each channel to its designated speaker. Additionally, the receiver's 192 kHz/24-bit digital-to-analog converter renders pristine sound from CDs and DVDs with linear-PCM (uncompressed) sound, while Yamaha's 32-bit Cinema-DSP processing gives you an additional 29 surround effects to enhance your movies and music. Front-panel audio/video inputs make it easy to play games or view camcorder footage through your theater, and the receiver offers a total of 4 A/V inputs, 2 of which handle component-video sources. The tuner section offers 40-station AM/FM preset tuning. The 7-speaker complement includes the piano-black NS-AP4400 system for the front, center, and surround speakers and Yamaha's YST-SW015 subwoofer for deep bass, which is important for effective home theater sound. The NS-AP4400 ensemble features large, 3-way floorstanding front left/right speakers with 6.5-inch woofers, 3-inch midrange drivers, and .5-inch tweeters. The wide center-channel speaker is perfectly configured for TV placement, broad sound dispersion, and clear, focused sound from its dual 4-inch woofers and .5-inch tweeter. The three compact rear-surround speakers all use a 2-way design with 3-inch cones and matching .5-inch tweeters for seamless sound, all the way around. The 120-watt, 8-inch subwoofer offers Yamaha's patented Advanced Active Servo Technology (Advanced YST), which generates incredible bass from its small enclosure. All speakers included with the YHT-450 feature magnetic shielding, so they can be placed near a TV or monitor and cause no picture degradation. What's in the Box Features Reviews (1)
I saw the YHT-450 at Best Buy. The wooden speaker boxes with piano black I did observe that the included receiver (HTR-5740) retails at $299 and The packaging is impressive. It just screams "quality!" In the big box are Here are the specs, straight from the included documentation: Mains(2): 6 1/2" pulp cone, 3 1/5" pulp cone, 4/5" soft dome, 50Hz-28kHz My sound review is based solely on performance with cd audio. The 2.1 sound is very good! The larger woofers in the mains give body to the sound that my old Klipsch satellites lacked. The subwoofer is only fair, not delivering much below 40Hz. It does flesh out the uneven low-end response of the mains. With the cutoff set to the minimum value of 50, the sound is mostly crisp and cIear. I plugged in two of the rear speakers to the front channels to see what they The receiver is powerful, with no noticeable distortion even at high volume. In summary, I'm quite happy with this purchase. The piano-black finish on the speakers is gorgeous and classy. CD audio through the mains and the subwoofer sounds good enough to justify the price I payed, $407.55 delivered. The rear speakers are mediocre; a system sporting five of these would get 3/5 at best. Thankfully Yamaha came through with a nice-sounding pair of front speakers. I will eventually replace the subwoofer with one having better range. I give this 4/5, 5/5 if somebody will come steal the three shabby rear speakers from me. ... Read more | |
