aiwa sells crap
I bought two aiwa boomboxes last year. They both died within the year. This company sells crap and they don't care. Buy any other brand!!!

Great "bang-for-the-buck" for an executive micro system
I am very impressed with the sound of the XR-X7. This unit offers contemporary styling, several features and crystal clear sound usually found on much more expensive systems. I would say if you are looking for a "kathump-kathump" sound then the XR-X7 is probably not for you. (There is a sub-woofer jack in the back of the unit if more bass is desired, I do not use it.) If you like clarity in your music with accurate bass, then you will love this unit. The unit sounds excellent with CD's but is most impressive with satellite radio. Corner placement really brings the subtleties and definition of the sound alive. I would have given the unit 5 stars except for one feature I felt was frivolous. I feel the screen color adjustment (12 of them) should be traded for a balance control.

It would have been higher, but the remote [is bad]
My JVC finally [quit] on me and I thought I would try a new flavor. The Aiwa is pretty sharp looking, has lots of features and sounds excellent. I use it in my bedroom, and the sound more than fills the room. However, it comes with possibly the worst remote control in the world! It's about as big as a credit card (and about as thick). To get some of the functions to work, you have to press and hold down a shift button while picking the option (repeat, shuffle, sleep etc...). Pretty much impossible to do with one hand (unless you have six fingers). Because of the remotes rather diminutive size, there is a fear that it would break easily.
My only other gripe is that there isn't a dimmer on the display. You can change the colors, but you can't actually dim them. It may sound silly, but if you are using it in a bed room, the display can actually be pretty bright and somewhat of a pain in the [behind] when trying to sleep.
In summary. Excellent machine. [Terrible] remote control. If the remote were more thought out, I would have given the XR-X7 a 5 out of 5...

Good looks and great sound...
I found this little Aiwa Xr-X7 and figured it would be great. It has a crisp, clear sound and is great for a small room. I definitely recommend it to others. The surround sound is great because it brings out alot of unheard qualities in cd's.

Great looks, good sound
I recently bought an AIWA XR-7. The saleman tried to talk me into buying the AIWA 60 watt powered subwoofer, but I thought he was just trying to sell me something. I should have listened a little closer to what he was saying.

The XR-7 (without the subwoofer) is perfect for a small room, an office or a dorm room. It's sound is crisp and clear. I love the surround sound feature and the T-Bass modes. However to really fill out the sound you need the subwoofer. If you play your music soft and low, you don't need the subwoofer.

Would I recommend the XR-7? You bet!

Me again....... and the NSX-D70 is still great.
I am returning to express how pleased I still am with this stereo. It has great sound that comes from 4 different speakers on each speaker box. The jog dial is a great that lets you turn a dial to select different things when using different features. The remote has the capability to control every single feature that the stereo has. D70 puts out great sound when you connect it to a tv/dvd/vcr.......but especially a dvd through the aux inputs. The display is pretty cool, but I don't really need it so there is a feature that I use to just turn off the graphic sound level display. I have not had one problem with this system yet and probably won't. The cassette door is also a pretty cool thing. It is one large opening door but you push with one finger on the left or right side to engane the thing holding the tape so you can take one in while another is playing or open both at the same time. The looks/style/appearance of the Aiwa NSX-D70 is simply great and does not look old fashioned or too over the top.

Excellent sound quality
I spent a couple of weeks looking for a stereo that allowed me to change the bass and treble to what i liked and to have a great sound that didn't crack or squeek. I spent probably 5 hours online looking through reviews and prices. I finally go fed up and went to circuit city with a personal cd with what i thought had really deep base and high trebles. I looked at everything from executive systems to theater systems and just for fun the Bose and other systems that cost thousands. This machine sounded absolutly awesome. The sound was un matchable only to the high priced systems ... It only cost [a small amount]with the two year extended warranty. It is an excellent system. my only gripe is that you cant change cds while litening to another one. It was a nice feature that i found on some of the executive systems which cost about the same but don't produce the same amount of volume. It'sa an excellent system.

Extraordinary Sound--Sam B. 16 y.o.
This stereo is amazing. The sound is just great. Deep bass and high .... high's that dont distort at high volumes. I have this hooked up to my dvd player through the aux input and it is simply awesome watching the Matrix or any other dvd. This stereo. The 280 watts of total power never sounds fuzzy or crackles at high or low sound points as my old 3 piece 7 watt per speaker did. NSX-D70 comes w/ a nice remote capable of every possible task. This system also looks great. It exceeds my expectations by at least 20 times and I had great expectations to begin with. OK sound but CDs freeze
I was perfectly happy with this mini system until about three months after I purchased it. Suddenly all of my CDs began to stop dead in the middle of a song. We're talking brand new CDs here. It doesn't happen at any specific point in a given CD, just randomly. Other times it stops momentarily and then continues. When I try to eject the frozen CD it won't even open unless I bang hard on the unit, which I'm sure doesn't help the problem! I tried various laser lens cleaners and it still happened. I contacted Aiwa and they told me I had to SEND the unit to a place in upstate New York and wait an indefinite period for them to repair it. I don't expect much for $... but I do expect more than 3 months use out of a system.

Great Sound for the Price
The Aiwa NSX-D30 is a good system for the price. I would have liked a beefier bass (there are three pre-settings for treble and bass) but over-all the 'control panel' is intuitive and easy to use. I especially like the volume control--a dial that turns up and down (sometimes old-fashioned & simple is best)! The double cassette decks, which open at a subtle touch to the corner, means one can record from one tape to another or from one of 3-CD R/RW and AM/FM radio. A snap to set-up. Good looking unit, good sound
Nice system for the price. Easy to set up and use. Sounds very good in the basement.

Great looking but unreliable
I have had thi sunit for 3 months and have used it lightly. Now the CD player is hissing and skipping unexplainably.

Good but lousy radio reception
This little system has great sound but the FM reception is lousy. I work in NYC and work in Howard Stern's building. However, the reception of the radio station that he transmits on (92.3) is intermittent. My little ...radio picked it up no problem.

CD sounds good though and the system looks very smart sitting on my desk......

Had it for over a month now and the QSound signal processing (some type of phase shift) works fine for some songs but tends to accentuate certain instruments. For example, the lead guitar thats set to image from both speakers is drowned out by the keyboard that is favoring the right speaker. In some cases, the vocals get drowned out. Also the volume control is kinda fiddly. ...

Approperate MicroSystem
There are several advantages to this system over it's competitors, making it a really good small shelf system for a home.

1. It has 30W output - which means it can achieve good high volume.
2. It has an RCA jack on the back, so I can plug in my MP3 player.
3. It's simple. Tape deck, CD player, and sterio.

Is it great? No, the navigation is a little kitchey and the cd tray is a little slow (they should have done slot-loading technology). But it's REALLY good, no where near as bad as the other reviews make it out to be...

nice sound, but loud CD hiss
The system has very nice sound, but the CD makes an unusually loud hiss, which is especially evident at low volume levels. I'm debating whether to return it.

The FM reception is also very poor -- it only gets a handful of stations with any clarity. My 5-year old boom box does much better. ... Read more

Nice! Until it breaks
I bought this receiver last March and was very pleased with it until it just quit working. I thought...no problem, it's still under warranty, so I'll just get it fixed. That's when the real problems began. I happen to live in Anchorage, AK. and there is no authorized service center for Aiwa in Anchorage. I have been unable to access their Web sight for the nearest service center and their automated phone system continually disconnects. This has been going on for weeks! The reciever WAS great, but Aiwa USA needs to get their act together. I should have been suspect of buying another Aiwa product because I had a similar experience with Aiwa when I lived in San Diego, CA. I think I have definitely learned my lesson this time. NO MORE AIWA PRODUCTS FOR ME!!!

This is a great stereo system, I highly recommend it to anyone with a portable MD player who is a fan of great quality music. If you dont use MD's, this isnt for you, get something cheeper. Aiwa is the best, Amazon is the cheapest!

I Think Theres Something Wrong With The Price
Are you kidding me? This price is unbelievable! Just a 3CD changer MiniSystem with this sound qualtiy should be around 300-350 but then it has a mini disc player and recorder which should be another 100-150. Everything is so easy on this product even recording CD to MD or Radio to MD. I thought dubbing on to MDs might be complicated but its as easy as pressing a button because it is just pressing a button. Seriously, if you have $200 buy this right now. The sound quality is incredible the MiniDisc capabilities are outstanding and the price is outrageous. The price is so good that I saw this product about 6 months ago in the stores at around 450, and if I had 450 then I would've bought it.

Buy it while you can
I did a lot of looking for any unit that was an md system, and everything was $300 or more and they were very tiny with pitiful speakers. And this $200 price is only at amazon i checked at another online electronics place they have it for $300, and the list price is closer to $450. This item is no longer being made so you won't find in any retail place other than these massive online stores. This is an absolutely incredible unit, a 5 MD changer and 3 CD, with an array of recording features and options. If you want to get started in Minidiscs this is the way to go, since you don't have to have any other components or attachments to record, like the $30 digital cable for a portable to record. I'm very glad i found this system. With it's 60watt speakers it provides incredible sound, and has several sound enhancing features. Bass boost, BBE(enhances high frequency sound), surround sound features, and an equalizer with four settings. The only downside is the lack of a cassete player, but if you move to MDs you'll find yourself rarely using tapes again. So again my advice is to buy this unit before it runs out for good.

Total satisfaction
I bought this unit and a Sony car MD changer to get away from cassettes. The absence of cassette slots allows a more compact unit, and I just hook up an external deck to record a tape for a friend. Copying one or three of your CD's is one-button simple. Five MD's can be loaded for recording or listening. The manual is comprehensive and clear. I've used the unit in its sleep and wake-up modes as well as making timer recordings of my favorite public radio programs. Can't beat the price. I recommend it highly.

In standard sleep mode, we found the multicolor display somewhat gaudy--and it might keep you awake if it's visible from your bed. Thankfully, you can turn the display off to show only the time. In addition, the system includes a slot-machine-like game that you can play at any time, whether the system is on or off (but we think it's fixed, as we never managed to win).

The karaoke feature, while probably a draw for only select users, is pretty cool. It almost eliminates the vocal portions of any song so you can play the star using either of the two microphone inputs on the system's front panel. You can also mix in your own basic beats and croon to those, too--the system supplies a variety of percussion-driven rhythms.

Our only gripe is the very limited warranty (90 days for parts and labor), though Aiwa will supply new or rebuilt parts up to one year from the purchase date. But if you're in the market for an inexpensive yet powerful compact system with surround-sound capabilities, the Aiwa NSX-MT920 certainly delivers the most bang for your buck.

Great system! But there are other options...
Prior to purchasing this system, I also demo'ed its sister lower-endsystem (NSX-MT720) and two other systems I wasinterested in: the Panasonic SC-AK57 and Sony MHC-RXD7AV in retail stores. I listened to Miles Davis and other jazz CD's on the Aiwa, Sony, and Panasonic in stores before buying, and was duly impressed with the sound I got from all three. At the time, however, I was most impressed by the sound I would get from the Aiwa for less $$$, and so far I have not been disappointed with the bang-for-the-buck that the NSX-MT920 has delivered. I have not had any problems with "muffled" sound that I've seen in other reviews, although the system, if anything, could be too powerful for the one-bedroom apartment I live in. The Dolby Pro Logic system delivers excellent sound with Dolby Surround-encoded VHS tapes and gives me more incentive to go to Blockbuster video and actually rent something.

If you want to listen to rap music and boom your stereo all day, the Aiwa system is certainly for you. However, if you are more concerned with clarity (i.e. if you are listening to classical, jazz, and the like), either the Panasonic SCAK57 or Sony MHC-RXD7AV I think will serve you better for the same price... I still believe the NSX-MT920 is a good value for its current price. Additionally, I believe the NSX-MT720 is also more than enough for the casual listener's home theater needs.

Good things come in this small package.
What a nice surprise, a product that delivers what it promises and a whole lot more. This is a powerful little package with enough punch to knock your socks off. The karaoke feature is fun and easy enough for the entire family. You can bet we'll be singing Christmas Carols with the help of the Aiwa NSX-MT920 299 Watt Home Theater Mini System. This is a must have if you love music and the price, lets just say I really shopped around and this price was almost ½ of the next lowest price I found. Hurry and snatch this up before they realize how under priced they are.

Better than BOSE
Wow, how do I explain the quality of the sound of this complete system? I have a Bose sound system and this is just as great, if not better. I added a subwoofer to my system to give it an even more bass boost. If you have a DVD player, you're in for something great. It is BETTER THAN THE MOVIES! Wait untill you hear the center speaker. It has great features like karaoke, dolby pro logic, and DSP surround sound. This is THE BEST!

Beats a boombox, maybe
To be honest, I've had better sound from two tin cups on strings. But everything arrives in one box and Amazon will ship it right to your door - and for a 5 channel surround system, the price is right. There are all kinds of DSP (digital signal processing) options you can use to tweak the sound if you're not using a 5-channel input (high end VCR's and DVD players provide this for movie watching); but these options have the habit of cancelling themselves at the drop of a hat. Luckily resetting them is easy.

There are all the bells, whistles, karaoke, equalizer, bass booster, dynamic range/compression utilities you could ask for; there's even a drum machine to add rhythm and a slot-machine like irritating game which is, most unfortunately, the machine's default setting. (You can make it show the clock by pressing 'clock' each time you power off.)

For the price, you get loud, low-end sound, a 3-CD changer, and decent 2-tape and tuner capability. I run my computer sound out through it too, in the mini-disc port, with no problem. I'd buy it again, with no illusions about audiophile-quality sound, just because it annoys my neighbors.

BE FAIR... Aiwa is just as good, if not better...
Aiwa systems are definately one of the best value for money stereo's you can buy. Despite all the complaints I tend to see, most relate to exceptionally old units - and most relate to those people who never got their Butt into Gear to get it fixed under warranty. That's what a warranty is for! I have owned several AIWA's and have never experienced anything but the best customer service and swiftness of reply in any kind of problem or query. I would recommend AIWA to my closest friends due to the amount of confidence I have in their products - especially the models relesed in the last two ranges. How about a true fair go... if you buy a unit for under $1,000, you can't expect it to perform and last as long as a seperate component $3,000 plus unit!
