Amazon.com Product Description

No, it's not as big as a real movie screen--but it will probably feel like it. Samsung's rear-projection HCN4727W offers a huge, 47-inch display in a widescreen format that's specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies. The set's dark-bezel, silver-gray cabinet makes it a great choice for stylish, big-screen entertainment in large rooms. And, when you're ready to take on the world of high-definition television, just add a HD satellite/off-air receiver or an HDTV tuner to enjoy full-quality digital HDTV broadcast programming--the set features a DVI-HDTVinterface so you can establish a direct, premium-quality digitalconnection with your DTV receiver.

Whether your passion is for DVDs, sports, or movies, the HCN4727Wdelivers high performance and convenience. Three high-resolution,7-inch liquid-cooled CRTs power Samsung's RealFlect System Pro,delivering highly focused illumination across the entire screen throughincorporated features like HD Fine Focus lenses and a high-performanceHD Fine Pitch lenticular screen with anti-glare protection. PerfectFocus digital auto-convergence gives you convenient picture focus at the push of a button. Samsung's Cinema Progressive Scan automatically upconverts all nondigital signals to a smooth, clear 720 lines of progressively scanned images.

An important element of Cinema Progressive Scan is 3:2 pulldowndetection, which renders DVD movies in their native 24-frame format.Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitallycorrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to displaya film-frame-accurate picture.

Samsung's HD Fine Pitch screen further improves picture clarity, especially when viewing higher-definition video sources like DVD andHDTV. The fine-pitch, .52 mm screen brings out subtle image detailsotherwise unnoticeable on standard .72 mm pitch screens. Samsung's AutoPerfectFocus auto-convergence system corrects picture focus at the pushof a button. All onscreen information and menus appear in translucentoverlays, letting you view video programs in the background while youconsult the setup menus.

A total of 10 video inputs handle more than most of the sets out thereand includes the DVI input mentioned above, three composite-video andtwo high-definition component-video inputs, two S-video inputs, and twostandard RF inputs (for VCRs and cable boxes).

The set's two-tuner picture-in-picture with stock-ticker modes lets youmonitor up to 13 different channels simultaneously. Stock-ticker modeplaces the lower one-fifth of the screen of one channel into anotherchannel so you can viewing streaming text beneath the program of yourchoice.

The 15-watt-per-channel stereo audio system benefits from BBE Sound with a five-band equalizer, which is designed to enhance the sound frommovies and music programs alike. Sound Mode Preset gives you the bestdynamic sound settings for whatever you're watching. Choose fromstandard, music, movie, speech, or custom.

Amazon.com Product Description

Get detailed and go wide with Samsung's high-definition ready 30-inch-diagonal DynaFlat widescreen TXM3098HF. The set comes loaded with a host of high-tech image enhancements, including a flat, anti-distortion/anti-glare CRT, Invar Shadow Mask (an alloy material that increases focus and brightness without sacrificing color purity), and Samsung's ProPicture 3-Stage Video Enhancement.

ProPicture enhancement enfolds three different features. Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing) converts standard analog TV signals to digital, compensating for varying signal strengths in the process. Pro Chip Plus Natural Scan Line Doubling converts NTSC signals to 480p, dramatically improving any video source to 480p progressive picture quality. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

Three-line comb-filter technology enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped T-shirt).

Another picture enhancement is velocity-scan modulation, which improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

The set pumps out stereo audio with 10 watts per channel and also includes a 25-watt powered subwoofer in the rear of the cabinet for deep, rich bass. Two sets of HD component-video 1080i/480p/480i jacks foster hookup with a DTV set-top box and a progressive-scan DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. One side and 3 rear audio/video inputs accommodate your other entertainment equipment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as my Panasonic CT34WX50
Major drawbacks on this product (versus the Panasonic widescreen 34 inch, CT34WX50, which I also own) include 1) When switched on, the television defaults to "WIDE" viewing mode, which is fine for anamorhphic DVDs but is not appropriate for watching any other source, where "PANORAMA" OR "ZOOM" are better choices. The previous viewing mode choice is not saved once the TV is switched off. 2) There is no "AUTO" mode, where the TV automatically adjusts the aspect ratio as different programs alternate between widescreen and 4:3 formats. 3)There is no leeway to fine tune the aspect ratio in ZOOM or WIDE formats.

The picture quality itself is beautiful, particularly in HDTV and EDTV (DVD source). ... Read more

84. Samsung TXN2775HF 27" HD-Ready TV with DynaFlat Screen

Asin: B00009QG4N
Catlog: CE
Manufacturer: SAMSUNG
Sales Rank: 34668
Average Customer Review: 4 out of 5 stars

Amazon.com Product Description

Enjoy gloriously detailed images and rich, spacious sound from one surprisingly compact 27-inch television. The TXN2775HF uses Samsung's proprietary DynaFlat technology to provide a perfectly flat viewing surface with none of the curvature, image distortion, or detrimental glare that accompany traditional TV screens. Hook the set up with any DTV set-top box or progressive-scan DVD player to take full advantage of its high resolution and picture-enhancing technologies.

The 800-line DynaFlat screen brings higher resolution than that achieved by earlier-generation sets because the individual phosphor color spots (or pixels) are smaller and closer together in this configuration. The set's multiple-focus electron gun illuminates finer spots for a more detailed picture, edge-to-edge, and it's assisted in this job by a three-line digital comb filter and velocity-scan modulation circuitry.

Velocity-scan modulation improves the definition at picture edges, creating sharper images by slowing the CRT (cathode-ray tube) beam's horizontal scanning during demanding work--say, when rendering transitions from light to dark parts of an image--and speeding it up when scanning easily rendered sections, like broad dark areas.

Another set of image improvements is wrapped into Samsung's Pro Picture three-stage video correction: Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing), Pro Chip Plus (converts all interlaced analog signals to superior, flicker-free progressive scan images), and the above-mentioned three-line digital comb filter (which analyzes multiple lines of picture information to better minimize edge image artifacts while improving transition detail).

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

The TXN2775HF performs 3:2 pulldown detection, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Connections include a component-video input, an S-video input, a trio of composite-video inputs (with accompanying stereo analog RCA audio inputs), an RF input (for VCR or cable box), and a set of audio/video outputs for feeding a DVR or VCR. Convenient side-panel audio/video inputs foster hookups with camcorders and gaming consoles while preserving the set's uncluttered silver front panel.

A zoom screen-filling option lets you customize the view of letterboxed DVDs from the supplied remote control, while screen-capture picture freezing lets you view still images, even with broadcast television. Convenient side-panel buttons let you configure the set and access its menus without having to use the remote.

The TXN2775HF also features what Samsung terms a "neo side-sound design" aimed at delivering full-bodied sound with a clean, uncomplicated look. And, with 15 watts per channel x 2, you can be sure of the system's clarity and its ability to play loudly. Several sound modes offer dynamic audio settings for whatever you're watching; choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom. Surround-sound mode simulates an exciting surround effect from any two speakers, and a side-panel headphone jack allows private listening (headphones not included).

1-0 out of 5 stars Avoid Samsung and stay happy!
My Samsung TXN2775HF worked fine for 8 months until the CRT failed. It has been in the shop under warranty for almost 3 weeks with no end in sight. Samsung Customer Service is an oxymoron. They provide conflicting information and their supervisors happen to be "out of the building" when you need to talk with one. To spend this much money on a product, have it fail after such a short period of time, and then have Customer Service seem unwilling or unable to do anything about it says volumes about a company.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
Cheapest priced 16:9 HDTV monitor out there.

Not cheap in quality either

3-0 out of 5 stars Cheap HDTV, Good for price, but it has issues.
This is a low end HDTV, hence it's better than most normal TV's, but it still has its issues:

1. Misalignment of the picture. While watching normal Cable TV, the picture cuts off the bottom quarter inch of the picture or so. Using the Zoom features only make it worse. It's not bad, but it's really annoying if you're trying to read the scrolling information at the bottom of news channels.

2. It has two component inputs on the back, but it doesn't have a DVI connector which is nice for computer video cards that output DVI. DVI is the digital to digital connector on LCD screens and hopefully on upcoming DVD players.

3. Remote control dumbness - the remote is universal, but doesn't support most of the buttons for anything other than TV. The thing that really stinks is the "TV/Video" button on the remote. On this TV I got, if you hit this button on the remote, it goes through ANT/SVIDEO/etc, but it skips the two Component inputs on the back, only the front button (TV/Video) physically on the TV selects the component inputs. This is dumb since the reason you get an HDTV is for the Component connections. I'm not sure, but I don't think HDTV signals can go through SVideo, or composite cables. At least I think this TV only supports HDTV through it's Component inputs.

I'm happy with this TV, but I would've like to have known about these issues before I bought it. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

With its DynaFlat anti-distortion, anti-glare flat picture tube, the 32-inch Samsung TXN3245FP will make movie night a special night indeed. The TXN3245FP offers a full complement of Samsung's advanced digital video features, including 3-line digital comb filter, velocity scan modulation, 3:2 pulldown cinema conversion, and a wide selection of video/audio input connections. Using the SDTV (standard definition television) system, the TXN3245FP can display brilliant, flicker-free progressive digital output in 480p mode (perfect for viewing movies from your progressive scan DVD player.

The TXN3245FP offers Samsung's Digital Pro Picture three-stage video processing system that produces a high performance picture from both analog and digital sources. The Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing) improves analog to digital signal processing, the Pro Chip Plus converts all analog signals to the better flicker-free progressive scan, and the three-line digital comb filter analyzes multiple lines of picture information to minimize edge image artifacts while improving transition detail.

The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theater-like experience at home. This set also features an Invar shadow mask (an alloy material used to attain better focus and brightness consistency), color temperature controls, and four video presets (standard, dynamic, movie, custom) that optimize the picture for brightness, sharpness, color, and tint.

It has a built-in 181-chanel NTSC tuner that receives MTS and SAP stereo broadcasts. Its built-in speakers have 15 watts of power apiece and it features a headphone jack on the side of the set. Two component-video inputs allow you to connect an optional HDTV receiver or a source with component-video outputs. It also has 4 composite A/V inputs (3 rear, 1 side), 1 A/V output, 1 S-video input (side), and 2 RF inputs (rear).

Tech Talk
Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, which is widescreen and appears rectangular, looking more like a movie screen and filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.

Scanning method: Frames of video are made up of many lines of video that are scanned onto a television screen so closely they appear to be a solid picture. The scanning method can be either interlaced or progressive. Interlaced scanning (also used in today's analog TV), indicated by an "i" in the video format, fills in the odd number lines (1,3,5,7...) and then fills in the even number lines (2,4,6,8...) until the frame is complete. Progressive scanning, "p," fills in each line consecutively until the frame is complete, like a computer display.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value
This tv is perfect for the kind of person who doesn't watch a lot of tv but wants to watch dvds and/or play games in 480p (progressive scan). Out of the box the tv needs to be calibrated to look its best (everything is set too high). Once adjustments are made you have a crystal clear digital picture - you just won't believe how good it is for this price. With 2 sets of component video inputs you can easily hook up a digital cable receiver and set it to output in 480p and you've essentially got an hdtv for much less money. Excellent quality. I don't know about the speakers as I use my surround sound system for that. A word of caution though some tvs of this model have poor power supplies but most are fine. If you are getting a poor picture or flicker exchange it for the same model (I had to do this). If you are getting an unbelievable crystal clear picture you've got a good one, don't settle for one of the duds. There's a hidden service menu that lets you adjust the picture quality further and fix geometry.. accessing this menu is a must just search online and you'll find out how.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good choice at this time. Nov. 2003
Very good definition. A good alternative to the higher price HD offerings. If you need a TV now this is a good choice. I am going to wait until the dust settles to buy the HD or Plasma.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awesome picture for the price -- after adjustments
This has to be the best deal currently going on ED/HDTV. I've had this set for almost two months and I love it. Out of the box, you might be unhappy with it, but if you search online, you'll find a message board full of good instructions on how to make the proper adjustments from within the service menu -- including a few settings that give the TV video/audio abilities it's not advertised to have. Get a calibration disc such as Video Essentials to help you make the adjustments. The 480p image, straight up from DVDs or digitally enhanced over-the-air, is gorgeous, with incredible clarity for a non-HD picture.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth 4.5 Stars, and the money
If you can get past the size of the box (like a ford excursion parked in your living room), and spring the extra $.. for component video cables, you'll find it difficult to beat the picture and sound for the price. Wasn't even considering this TV when shopping. Was looking at Sony and Toshiba 32" analog sets, then happened to see both of them next to this TV. Asked the sales guy why this one was the same price but looked so much better. Then learned about the world of EDTV (Enhanced Digital TV), which is the best of both worlds. Same price as comparable analog sets but with much better picture, and no horizontal lines--big distinction from analog sets! Much less than HDTV AND!!! the price of the in-home warranty for HD is 3 times as much as analog and EDTV! Flat screens have more of a tendency to burn hot spots into the screen, so I'd definitely spring for the extra $$$ or so for 4-5 years of in-home service and peace of mind--considering the price of the TV, the extra $..is totally worth it.
Sound and picture might take some tinkering to get it right. Reasons for 4 or 4.5 stars instead of 5 are size of the box and stupid cell phone-type sound it makes when you turn it on or off. Maybe there's a setting for that one.

4-0 out of 5 stars great for the price
You need something to tide you over until HDTV prices come down? I got this TV and it takes a little messing around with the picture to get it looking good, but once you figure that out, DVD's look AWESOME! IT's like watching on a HDTV. I've got digital cable, and the picture is a little grainy but still clearer than the 32" analog Sony Wega (no horizontal scan lines with this Samsung!!!) I would get an even nicer TV, but I want to wait until HDTV prices fall. This is a great inbetween analog and HDTV alternative. The only Negative statement I can make on this Samsung is that when you are close (within a few feet) to the tv the picture is a little grainy on broadcast television, but still as good as analog sets. Who needs to sit that close to their tv anyways? ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Pop, Pop, Fizz Fizz
I bought the 4216 (platinum) in November and have had nothing but problems. Delivery driver unpacked TV only to power up with no picture. Amazon would not allow me to return TV and made me call Samsung for warranty repair. I would think twice about buying on-line for this reason. 1st warranty company came out to repair and had to take TV to shop and replace tuner. Returned TV and regular picture looked fine, but HDTV was blurred. 1st warranty company would not come out to adjust, so I had to call 2nd company and they came out and adjusted lines. It is now May and TV just popped and fizzed and now no sound or functionality. 3rd repair service in less than 6 months. I too heard Samsung had improved their products, but I do not see it. The picture is great when it is working, but for this $$$ I would go with the Mitsubishi if I could do it over again.

1-0 out of 5 stars terrible investment
The furniture company delivered the television to me, and not one hour later, the television had mysteriously developed a dark band running vertically down the right-hand side of the screen. This was not always noticeable, depending on what the on-screen display was, but against bright colors (the sky, etc.) it showed up as a yellow stripe. This did not improve "The Matrix," it just made it seem as though Neo occasionally was jaundiced. As if this wasn't bad enough, the quality of the image itself was poor. I would describe it as out-of-focus and as grainy. My DVDs looked like VHS tapes on this television. In fact, they look better on my old 27", non-HD, non-projection Zenith, and when the furniture company came to retrieve this Samsung turkey from my house, I told them my old set would be just fine.

Don't waste your money on this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars I really wanted it to work!
I love the look of this TV and it fit perfectly in my living room but after trying twice, I'm scared of getting that third one. The first one worked for four days and then started flickering. Then it just went blue (no cable signal) but the dvd worked fine. I got the second one and it didn't even turn on. I did notice a faint burning smell for a few seconds... I must now decide if I should go with the third. I think the previous reviews have convinced me not to. Better go with another brand!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Job, Samsung!
I've nothing but good fortune with my Samsung 4215W. It's the best TV I've ever had so far, and I have confidence in this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Can't give it ZERO stars!

4-0 out of 5 stars THIS TV IS AWSOME
The only problem I have with this TV is that when in compnent 1 HDTV mode through charter I have to keep it in the cool 1 color setting. If I don't the color gets real bright then real dark in and out. Other then that this TV is great no complaints exspecailly for the (970) price tag I bought it at!!!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars No significant problems, nice picture
I do not have a problem changing the aspect ratio on progressive scan DVD's as a previous rater suggests. The one catch I had was that this TV has two sets of component jacks (Red-Blue-Green and two audio jacks). The CATCH is that component 2 cannot be used for DVD. Hence, our Digital TV box (Comcast Cable) must be used in component 2 and the DVD must be hooked up to component 1. This was not in the manual. Also, when I put my cable in component 2, it did not work until I hooked up a DVI cable from the TV to the comcast box. Not sure why. But looks great all the same. I have a Panasonic progressive scan DVD and typically set the aspect ratio of the TV to "DVD" which allows me to adjust the screen to take up the entire screen. Looks fantastic in progressive scan DVD playing. HDTV, I guess it depends on the signal you are receiving, does not allow for changing of aspect ratio. The Masters golf tournament was awesome, although an LCD in HDTV would blow it away, it still makes HDTV worth the price. I get Phillies games on HDTV and I cannot change the aspect ratio (bar at top and bottom) and I dont think its the TV's fault. The Masters as in most HDTV stuff takes up the entire screen. I found everything else about this TV to be satisfactory, it is not as deep as some big screens and does not overtake a room. The small shelf it sits on that comes with the TV houses the Comcast box and probably would fit the DVD player but that is it. You will need to put your Sound Receiver and any other component elsewhere so be aware of that when you go out and spend money on cables. I use a DVI cable that came with a Dell flat screen and it works great. Monster DVI cable ($129!!) would be overkill. I also use GE componnent cables which had I gone with Monster brand cables all around I would have spent an extra $300!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Samsung HCN4226W 42" Widescreen Projection HD-Ready TV
We have had problems with the tv, but have not had any problems getting it serviced. Works fine now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good tv - some specific specs missing
For me - this tv lacks two things.

1. Theres no way to change the aspect ratio when the tv is receiving a 480p (progressive) input signal. This is bad when you want to watch a Simpsons DVD with a high quality signal and its stretching it to meet the dimensions of the tv rather than allowing you to change the aspect ratio to 4:3

2. Of the two component inputs, only one allows for both 480p and 480i - and with problem #1, you would periodically have to change the signal from a progressive to an interlaced, and therefore be required to use the only input that gives you a choice of signals. the other input is a straight 480p / 1080i input.

I felt like i was having to calibrate it too often and the edges of my screen were blurry. I think the picture was quite good and the price was fab. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars New model fixes settings problem
The picture and sound are awesome on this TV. Many of the reviews here are copied from an older model, the TXM3298HF. The new model TXN3298HF, released in the first half of Jan 2004, remembers all of your settings when turned off. (How did that ever get into distribution?)

Also notice the unfair skewing that rating the dealer has on what people actually have to say about the TV. I bought mine elsewhere, and have no complaints.

The DNIe image enhancement engine, and automatic conversion of signals to higher quality mean that I don't see any improvement by switching my DVD player to progressive scan. Might sound like a complaint, but it just means the TV's doing a great job cleaning up incoming signals.

The S-Video input is still on the left side, making accessing it difficult for those of you who need it. I don't, so it's no big deal.

My complaints about the TV are very minor:
* The velocity scan picture enhancement does a nice job of improving the picture, but has a very subtle effect of making the low-contrast details of an image swim after the high contrast portions. For instance, if somebody jiggles their head, the eyes, mouth and other high-contrast portions of their face move quickly, but the subtle lines on their forehead move very slightly slower. My wife doesn't notice it, so maybe you won't. The digital noise reduction should only be used on bad signals: it blurs good ones.

* Pushing the quick-access settings buttons on the remote produces two different effects. Some buttons display the current setting, others immediately change it. If you have a regular, one rca cable signal on one input and a component on another, you may have to push one button four times to change to the rca input, and another button two times to switch to the component. If you have a universal remote with macros, it's not a problem. If all of your inputs are s-video, digital or component, you can use one button to switch between all inputs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Use the DVI Interface
I selected this TV because of the size. This set is designed to be less wide than most 32" sets so it fit perfectly into my cabinet. Delivery was great. The scheduling was easy and two guys delivered it into the house and down the stairs (this baby is heavy).

Be sure you can use the DVI interface for input to this TV. When I first hooked it up to my high definition cable box via component video the HD channels were a little wavy around the edges. Not bad, but noticable. Once I purchased a DVI cable (100 bucks!) and hooked it up via DVI the picture on this set was pefect. Looks fantastic.

One thing to watch out for is that the only S-Video input is on the side and if you have the set in a cabinet you can't access it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great value, not as slim as hoped
I bought this set from Amazon and am overall pleased with it.

The Good: The picture is unbelievably good even compared with Sony's 32 inchers. The low price makes this set a steal.

The Bad: I originally was interested in this tv because it is the only 32 incher that was narrow enough to fit in my entertainment center. After I got it, I went to hook up my DVD and realized the set's only S-Video connection is on the SIDE of the set- there was not enough room for me to hook up my DVD player.

The Ugly: Shipping took 11 days from order date to in my living room.

4-0 out of 5 stars great set great price questionable shipper
I ordered this tv after looking for a set that would fit in my entertainment unit to replace a 32 inch set, and this was the only 32 inch hdtv that would fit in the spot, also it had many features and had a reat picture. i looked at one at my local goodguys electronics store and the were charging 1300 plus tax, so i searched and amazon had the same on e for 994 plus 99 shipping, so iI ordered it from them, well the product says usually ships in 24 hours, but remeber usually, it took 5 days before they shipped it, then the shipper egl logistics had a 5 day delivery with this unit, and after 3 days, I checked thier website and put in the tracking number, and that saturday it was at my local airport and scnnned by egl, 2 days later I got a call from egl saying they could only deliver this item between 10 and 12 on a tuesday, well i work for a living and was off that monday, but was told they are not in my area on monday, and that the package was not even n the area at this time even though it was sitting on thier dock, as per thier tracking system on thier site. so I had enough and called amazon and they got back to me and said that you can not track items with egl and to call thier 800 number, real customer service would have done this for me, so I called the 800 number and was told that indeed the product should be in my home on thursday and they were calling the local office to investigaste, oh yea i was on vacation for the whole week but had to return to work that friday, which I thought was one day after the product should have been delivered, and they agreed and somehow egl found a way to get me the set on that thursday, i also bought a warrantee from servicemaster which extends the warranty by 4 years after the unit is out of waranty for 110 buck, bottom line on set = 4 bottom line on amazon service -1, and egl, for coming thru a 4, if you have probs, call egl direct.

Amazon.com Product Description

Get detailed and go wide with Samsung's 30-inch-diagonal DynaFlat widescreen TXM3096HF. The set comes loaded with a host of high-tech image enhancements, including a flat, anti-distortion, anti-glare CRT, Invar Shadow Mask (an alloy material that increases focus and brightness without sacrificing color purity), and Samsung's ProPicture three-stage video enhancement.

ProPicture enhancement comprises three features. Total DSP (Digital Signal Processing) converts standard analog TV signals to digital, compensating for varying signal strengths in the process. Pro Chip Plus Natural Scan Line Doubling converts NTSC signals to 480p, dramatically improving any video source to 480p progressive picture quality. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, providing higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. Finally, three-line Defining Filter combing technology enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line).

The set pumps out stereo audio with 10 watts per channel. Two sets of HD component-video 1080i/480p/480i jacks foster hookup with a DTV set-top box and a progressive-scan DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. One side and three rear audio/video inputs accommodate your other entertainment equipment. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Big value for the buck
Purchased the Samsung 3096HF 30" widescreen HDTV monitor after MUCH shopping around, reading of customer reviews and comparisons with other models. I knew I wanted an HDTV monitor that could handle HDTV of the future and also would look great with my Yamaha progressive scan DVD player.

It came down to this model and the Samsung 32" that has the exact same features in a 4:3 picture frame. My wife talked me into the widescreen model, and I'm glad she did.

I've had the set up and running for about a week now. You've probably read the initial complaints: too much red push. Well, you're going to get that with just about every HDTV tube monitor out there. You can easily adjust the set to your own preferences in color, sharpness, contrast and brightness. It took me 2 or 3 days of tinkering to get it just right, but finally I'm really happy with the TV's picture.

No, it doesn't look as good as the comparable Sony model. But you're talking about [more $$] for the Sony. To me, it just wasn't worth it. You get a ton of great features in the Samsung ...--HDTV capabilities, 3:2 pulldown processing, a widescreen model. No, it isn't the BEST television on the market, but I assure you it's the best widescreen HDTV set you'll find for under a thousand bucks.

There are one or two little nitpicky complaints I could make about it, but nothing that would keep me from recommending your purchase of this set. Like I said, I've had it for a week and every day I like it more. DVD picture quality is awesome and great in a widescreen mode. Regular TV broadcasts through satellite are also very good; the 4:3 picture is stretched to fit the widescreen but the TV isn't so big that it's noticeable as on larger, rear projection widescreens.

I recommend the set wholeheartedly. If you have two grand to blow, then spend it on a Sony, but if you're on a tight budget like me but you still want high-end features on a direct-view, tube set, this is a good one.

For what it's worth, at [$$] I was told by a guy at one of the retail stores I visited that there was very little markup on it. Don't know if that's true, but thought I'd pass it along...

5-0 out of 5 stars The best deal in HDTV.......
...and probably the least known. This TV is an unbelievable deal, well worth the price. It is one of the cheapest ways to get into the HDTV market, and you will not regret the leap. It is hard to justify spending [a lot of money] on a digital TV when there are little or no Digital signal sources available, but this price point makes the argument a moot point. Use it to watch progressive scan DVD's in unparalleled quality, or watch digital cable or satelite broadcasts the way they were meant to be watched. You will enjoy this well built TV for many years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars 16:9 for under 1K? - Awesome!
A great value!

OK, firstly the bad... Unit has a somewhat clumsy input selection between inputs (have to always go thru AV1,AV2,AV3 to get to Svideo), a non-adjustable and non-stored picture sizing,(wide is good for DVD, panorama stretches edges of 4:3, and 2 fixed zoom modes for letterbox, but unit always defaults to wide), a rather weak NTSV via-air tuner (needed a signal amplifier) and only 1 side mounted S-Video jack is available. These are my ONLY complaints...

Otherwise, for the money, it is the best television I have ever owned. It's not a $4,000 Sony, and I acknowlege that, but it's got a mighty good picture when connected to a progressive scan DVD, or to the satellite via the S-Video input.

Why buy 4:3 when you can have 16:9, and why buy fuzzy and blotchy projection when you can have a sharp and bright direct-view flat CRT?

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Value
I'm very pleased with my TXM3096HF. (I notice with some chagrin that the negative reviews listed for this model seem to be ACTUALLY for a different model, the TXM3097HF).
My biggest gripe about the TXM3096HF is the annoying remote control requires far too much fiddling, particularly when selecting the source (one must cycle through the choices, there is no direct one-button access to a particular source).
Being a movie fan, I really love the 16:9 aspect ratio and the hi-def picture.
My previous TV was a top-of-the-line Sony-XBR. The Samsung is sure better value-for-money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great widescreen set . . . after a few adjustments
As far as the negative reviews all I can say is any television and especially an HDTV needs adjustments when you first set it up.

No matter what brand you buy, the factory settings are always lousy, especially contrast. And on this set the Dynamic, Movie, and Standard settings Do Not give you a good picture. Use the Custom option and fine tune your settings.

Turn the contrast way down to around 30. All sets . . . Toshiba, Sony, Panasonic . . . come with contrast set way too high and this is the first thing you need to adjust. Same for brightness and sharpness. Sharpness should be way down in the 10 -12 range and brightness in the 30's range. This will also save your picture tube especially during the first 100 hours when all sets, HDTV or Standard, go through a break in period.

Don't expect standard cable to be magically transformed into a crystal clear picture cause it ain't gonna happen. Some stations will look better but some may look worse. It depends on how good your cable signal is and this will vary from station to station.
You might need to change some of your connections . . . especially the RF cable and the RCA composites. But don't buy overpriced Monster cables . . . you'll be paying for hype and retail mark up and may actual get worse results.

The one source that will really show you how good this set is are DVD's which look fantastic when you connect with component cables. I'm using a Panasonic progressive scan DVD player, but have it set to interlace because the Samsung de-interlacer creates a much better picture.

The TXM3096WHF is a great entry level set. And that's where we are with HDTV . . . . it's just beginning and it's gonna have bugs that will be ironed out over time. At this price you won't feel [taken] if you want to replace it in 2 or 3 years. But you might feel [taken] with a more expensive Toshiba or Sony set, because you're gonna want to replace one of those, too. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Samsung HCM4216WX projection HDTV monitor is designed to be the perfect alternative to heavier and bulkier 36-inch picture-tube TVs. Its 42-inch widescreen viewing area is set in a smart-looking, charcoal-gray cabinet, making it the perfect choice for big-screen enjoyment in smaller rooms. At the heart of the set, three high-resolution 7-inch liquid-cooled CRTs power Samsung's RealFlect video system with excellent brightness and contrast. The RealFlect video system incorporates high-quality, data-grade lenses for optimal picture detail and a high-performance first-surface mirror that ensures high brightness and image clarity.

NTSC-to-480-progressive-scan line doubling converts incoming analog sources (like VCR, cable, or non-progressive-scan DVD) to a progressive-scan 480p display, eliminating conventional TV scan lines for a "flicker-free" picture. Samsung's PerfectFocus auto-convergence system corrects picture focus at the push of a button. Flicker-free progressive-scan picture performance eliminates the scan lines visible in analog projection TVs.

A protective screen with high-contrast properties protects the display surface from scratches and reduces glare from ambient light. Auto clock set reads universal time code (UTC) from broadcast signals to set the internal clock. The set's 30-watt stereo audio system delivers ample sound for any entertainment venue. When you're ready for the world of high-definition TV, just add an HD satellite/off-air receiver or an HDTV tuner to enjoy digital HDTV broadcast programming.

Connections consist of three composite video inputs (one front, two rear), two S-video inputs (one front, one rear), one set of DVD 480P/480i (Y, Pb, Pr) component-video inputs, one set of HDTV 480P/1080i component-video (Y, Pb, Pr) inputs, and dual RF terminals for separate cable and broadcast reception. ... Amazon.com Product Description

Samsung's rear-projection, HD-ready HCN436W offers refined picture enhancements, abundant features, and a price low enough to erase any remnant of sentiment like "I'll just wait 'til those HD-ready sets get more affordable." The 43-inch set's widescreen display is specially configured to accommodate the native aspect ratios of your favorite movies. Its dark-bezel, silver-gray cabinet makes it a great choice for stylish, big-screen entertainment in large rooms.

And, when you're ready to take on the world of high-definition television, just add a HD satellite/off-air receiver or an HDTV tuner to enjoy full-quality digital HDTV broadcast programming--the set features a DVI-HDTV interface so you can establish a direct, premium-quality digital connection with your DTV receiver.

Three high-resolution, 7-inch liquid-cooled CRTs power Samsung's RealFlect System Pro, delivering highly focused illumination across the entire screen through incorporated features like HD Fine Focus lenses and a high-performance HD Fine Pitch lenticular screen with anti-glare protection. PerfectFocus Pro 15-point digital focus gives you convenient picture focus at the push of a button. Samsung's Cinema Progressive Scan automatically upconverts all nondigital signals to a smooth, clear 720 lines of progressively scanned images.

An important element of Cinema Progressive Scan is 3:2 pulldown detection, which renders DVD movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24-frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture.

Samsung's HD Fine Pitch screen further improves picture clarity, especially when viewing higher-definition video sources like DVD and HDTV. The fine-pitch, .52 mm screen brings out subtle image details otherwise unnoticeable on standard .72 mm pitch screens. Samsung's Auto PerfectFocus auto-convergence system corrects picture focus at the push of a button. All onscreen information and menus appear in translucent overlays, letting you view video programs in the background while you consult the setup menus.

A total of 11 video inputs handles more than most of the sets out there and includes the DVI input mentioned above, three each composite-video and high-definition component-video inputs, two S-video inputs, and two standard RF inputs (for VCRs and cable boxes).

The set's two-tuner picture-in-picture with stock-ticker modes lets you monitor up to 13 different channels simultaneously. Stock-ticker mode places the lower one fifth of the screen of one channel into another channel so you can view streaming text beneath the program of your choice, and if two pictures aren't enough, you'll have a choice of either 4- or 13-multiwindow viewing.

The 15-watt-per-channel stereo audio system benefits from BBE Sound with a five-band equalizer, which is designed to enhance the sound from movies and music programs alike. Sound Mode Preset gives you the best dynamic sound settings for whatever you're watching. Choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom.

Finally, a handy component shelf lets you tuck your DVD player or PVR inside your HCN436W to save a little space and strategically position it for use. (The component must be no more than five inches in height.)

The set's two-tuner picture-in-picture (side-by-side, split-screen) grants convenient, simultaneous viewing of two TV programs. Remote-controlled PIP functions include mixing a TV source and a video source, second screen size selection, and positioning on the TV screen.

Sound Mode Preset gives you the best dynamic sound settings for whatever you're watching. Choose from standard, music, movie, speech, or custom.

Finally, a handy component shelf lets you tuck your DVD player or PVR inside your HCN559W to save a little space and strategically position it for use. (The component must be no more than 5 inches in height.)

Amazon.com Product Description

The 43" DLP projection TV displays a widescreen viewing area that is elegantly framed in an ultra-light, thin-bezel cabinet. Weighing about 68 pounds and only 15.7 inches deep, it fits almost anywhere. You will experience perfect vision: Samsung’s DLP projection TV delivers unmatched brightness, contrast levels, and color accuracy, plus full digital convergence and a host of top-notch features. Its sleek design and lightweight construction also make this monitor possiblythe most attractive and versatile TV your home has ever seen.

HDTV with DLP technology
Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology is found in leading digital cinemas the world over. The heart of DLP technology is a micro-display panel no larger than a postage stamp, which integrates 921,600 microscopic mirrors to deliver eye-popping, high-definition detail, color, and clarity. Samsung applies the magic of DLP technology to your home theater via its patented, compact optical engine that replaces the large, heavy picture tubes found in direct-view sets. Best of all, Samsung DLP projection TVs are lighter, more affordable, and use far less power than plasma TVs. Now you can enjoy the spine-tingling thrills of digital television in a sleek, tabletop design that’s significantly smaller, lighter, and brighter than a conventional projection TV. Samsung’s advanced convergence technologies also make DLP projection TVs compatible with your HDTV tuner, PC, DVD, game console, VCR, camcorder, digital camera, and much more.

Samsung optical engine
Samsung’s patented optical engine ensures maximum brightness, flicker-free video, detailed text, and still images, and a full 160-degree viewing angle. DLP micro-display technology and Samsung’s proprietary Bent Light Lens System give you a big-screen TV without the big-screen hassle. Its ultra-slim, ultra-lightweight design lets you put it virtually anywhere. And its optical engine is durable, long-lasting, and never needs calibrating.

Digital perfection
DLP technology is the only display solution that enables projection systems to create a purely digital connection between a digital video or graphic source and the screen in front of you. The surface of the DLP panel is covered with almost a million micro-mirrors (1280 x 720) that act as pixels. This incredibly high pixel count creates a striking, digital image with seamless resolution, amazing detail, and brilliant, lifelike colors. And because the pixels are less than one micron apart, you won’t notice the "screen door" effect apparent with other TVs.

Ultra-smooth action
Samsung’s DLP micro-mirrors can switch on and off over 5,000 times a second--that’s up to 10 times faster than other micro-displays. This allows DLP Projection TV to smoothly and accurately display fast-switching content like HDTV and DVD.

Brighter and clearer
At 400 cd/m2, DLP outshines other micro-display technologies for a bright, clear picture, with incredible contrast and color accuracy. Its unique optical engine preserves the intensity of the original image with vibrant colors and rich, deep blacks. Its high, 1000:1 contrast ratio makes for ideal color separation and crisp, detailed images. That’s why Samsung's DLP projection TV is perfect for any source material that demands minute detail, such as HDTV, computer images, and DVDs.

Consistent screen image
The DLP projection TV is much more durable than competing technologies because the display doesn’t physically age or deteriorate. Its ultra-high-pressure lamp delivers consistent light output and picture quality throughout its long lifespan.

Cinema progressive scan and 3:2 pulldown
The cinema progressive scan enhancement automatically upconverts all nondigital signals to a smooth, clear 720 lines of progressive scan. The 3:2 pulldown feature is a must for any movie enthusiast. It analyzes each frame of video, removing unclear frames that were added during the transfer from film to video. These added frames cause blurring, stuttering, and other motion artifacts, especially during fast-action sequences. 3:2 pulldown eliminates them and gives your DVDs a look and feel that’s much closer to film. Cinema progressive scan with 3:2 pulldown is powered by Faroudja’s patented DCDi video processing on Samsung DLP projection TVs.

1280 x 720 progressive display quality
Samsung delivers flicker-free, static images, thanks to its all-format conversion system. Progressive scan is a must for rock-steady text, still images, and smooth action sequences.

Wide viewing angle
Left side, right side, or upside-down--whatever your location, Samsung DLP projection TVs allow you to see any display clearly, thanks to its 160-degree-wide viewing angle. Unlike traditional projection TVs, the image doesn’t get darker as you move away from the center.

5-0 out of 5 stars Abolutely awesome picture!!!
Your search is over! The Samsung 43" HDTV monitor has spectacular HDTV digital picture quality! Digital light processing (DLP) is a significant advancement in digital imaging technology; noticeably better than both plasma and liquid crystal displays. This monitor is the centerpiece of my home theater. Unexpectedly, it is a shoehorn fit into a 38" wide cabinet opening. My cabinet was originally designed for a traditional 36" tube.

The Samsung 43" monitor depth is approximately 15.7", therefore it cannot hang on a wall, like a 5" thick plasma or LCD display. If this is acceptable, DLP is superior in every essential picture related factor. It weighs a meager 65 lbs. It is cheaper in price and cannot suffer from "burn-in", in comparison to a plasma display. It has a user replaceable lamp that Samsung estimates will last 8,000 hours. Brightness is exceptionally good, even with sunlight entering the room.

Traditional direct view or cathode ray tubes (CRT) are relics of a bygone era, but are relatively cheap. CRT size is limited, yet sales may linger for a while longer. CRTs will become extinct, as DLP prices become comparable. Some manufacturers' claims that a CRT can display HDTV 1080i images is misleading. I think the tuners simply accept and convert an HDTV component signal by downgrading it to the lesser capability of an analog CRT. (See Consumer Reports magazine reviews.)

Texas Instruments is the manufacturer of the core DLP microprocessor technology. Today is 11/3/2003. DLP HDTV monitors are available from Samsung, RCA, Mitsubishi, Optoma and LG Electronics. More manufacturers are bound to introduce monitors using this DLP technology, while others may hesitate to license the key chip from an outside source.

In my humble opinion, plasma deserves a solid A-, whereas DLP should get an A+. I am a pro-consumer who did his homework. I am not a professional reviewer, nor do I have any special interest or bias favoring a particular manufacturer or technology. I love to watch very high quality TV in my home theater. I rent an HDTV decoder from Comcast and found HDTV picture sources are unbelievable. The best DVDs produce a very enjoyable B+ picture, but a true HDTV picture is breathtaking. Ultimately, all broadcast television must meet minimum HDTV standards.

DLP prices depend upon Texas Instrument's ability to mass produce DLP processors - outpacing a booming demand is a key pricing factor. If price trends are like computer microprocessors, then plasma and LCD will have an uphill struggle to compete with DLP sales.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best!
I purchased this set in November '03 after doing about 3 months research and visiting Best Buy etc. to view picture quality and technology comparisons. I settled on the Samsung DLP (43") to fit the opening in my wall cabinet. I wish I could have gotten a bigger model, however, it would have cost me $1600 to remodel my built-in wall cabinet. I have Direct TV and installed a roof antenna for my local stations(Direct TV doesn't broadcast in HD for local stations). The picture quality is astounding.

It beats Plasma and any other picture technology 2-1. HD Net, Discovery Channel HD, ESPN HD, and all the other HD channels available are sharp and without any type of distortion to my critical eye. The roof antenna brings in the local channels (about 60 miles away in Cleveland) as if they were HD coming off the satellite.

I have a Samsung HD 931 DVD player which is connected to the TV via a DVI cable. What a difference between my present picture and the one I got from my old analog TV.

I have a Samsung SR T165 HD receiver box and I am very dissappointed with its user interface with the 2 antenna feeds.
Although it provides the above mentioned great reception, it is very cumberson to use when surfing.

In conclusion, The Samsung DLP is a dream. I can't imagine how they can improve on the quality and clarity of this set, but I'm sure they will. The closer you sit to this set the clearer the picture becomes.

So far I have had no problems with the TV and have not adjusted the set as it came from the factory.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best TV on market
I purchased this TV after a year of research on Plasma and LCD. In store personal comparisons showed better pictures than the prior two technologies at less than half the price. I think DLP technology is the first step in making HD televisions affordable. This tv is light and thin to compared to CRT and the picture when seen in true high definition is stunning. Even non HD siganls are best I've ever seen. I have two friends who bought plasma tv,s who say DVD images are perfect, but regular tv is terrible. I don't kow if this is the TV or too advanced a cble connection. Either way, this is not happening with this tv or my connections. I've not witnessed any rainbow or other image problems others have mentioned. I hooked up my Cablevision IO HD box with component Video/audio and my DVD using DVI cable. The fact that there is almost no wasted space on left, right and top sides allows you to fit as much picture as possible in the smallest space. I've nothing but a positive review of this TV and would advise purchase to anyone. Plasma is just not worth it, unless you have to have a wall mount. With the money I saved buying this, I purchased a beautiful antique entertainment center to hold it and more. Very happy I found this.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this HDTV but I¿m returning it.
I love this HDTV but I'm returning it.
Although I did over a year of research and I'm happy, I picked this over a flatscreen LCD (not taking a chance on dead pixels), Plasma (not taking a chance on burn ins and they don't last long enough) or LCD projection (dead pixels), or LcOs (technology is not perfected) I'm returning it. First of all the HLN437W you see at Circuit City is not what gets delivered to your house; I called Samsung and what you'll get is actually the upgraded HLN437W1XX (does not say so on the box, its on the sticker to the right of the screen) THE SALES PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THIS! The menu is improved and the remote control is different but the real change has been made to the component inputs in the rear. They now all support all input resolutions (1080i, 720, 480p, 480i, etc.). The sets that come out this June are just slightly different but the technology is the same.

So why am I returning it?
Well the HD picture is stunning but regular broadcast is very poor. I've tried a bunch of different connections and called Samsung. The Monster S-video connector is the best but the clarity of detail is worse than what I get on my 12 year old ProScan and that is not acceptable. DVDs look great but most of my use will come from watching regular broadcast. Now keep in mind that THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HD BROADCAST STATIONS TO WARRANT A $3,100 PURCHASE (TV plus warrantee). Even though the major networks broadcast in HD the original format (Beta) is simply broadcast as HD. True HD (Discovery Channel) if far superior and widescreen but there are not enough stations like Discovery. One other thing to mention is that you can only view this TV at eye level. It is unviewable from above or from the sides.

DVI warning.
They are going to try to sell you a DVI cable for $100 and sure it is great but your eye won't tell the difference between that and component. Also the dirty little secret of the DVI connection is that it defaults to 1080i ONLY, that means that your regular broadcast will look horrible because the native resolution (see the Cnet.com review of this unit) is 720 and with the DVI hookup you can't change it on a Pioneer Voyager 3510 box. Period. Also Time Warner does not support DVI, so you're back to either component which is poor or S-video which is just okay.

Ghosting, Rainbow Effect. Fan Noise. Picture-in-picture
Have seen ghosting on some stations and it is very annoying. No rainbow effect. Only a little fan noise that I can live with. PIP does not work because you're using a cable box.

Pushes Red.
Yes but overall the colors are vibrant the blacks are great and there is no screendoor effect you just have to deal with the pixilization from poor broadcast viewing.

A Plea to Samsung, The Cable Companies (TimeWarner), HD box makers (Pioneer) and Merchants (Circuit City)
TALK TO EACH OTHER! There is a lack of understanding as to how things work together and the consumer-yes even we techno savvy guys-should not have to spend hours on the phone (if you don't work from home try getting Samsung on the phone at night or during the weekend when you want to tweak your set; the people at Time Warner really don't know much; Pioneer posts no phone numbers on their website and the sales people only know what the reps tell or fail to tell them). Samsung Customer Care people are great and very knowledgeable but it is quite disconcerting that none of them (Samsung employees) own DLPs or any of their high end TVs. It turns out that these guys say they can't afford them-that is truly sad, almost shameful on Samsung's part.

Do not enter your Service Menu.
If you make and changes you immediately void your Warrantee. Period.

I simply can't see spending the money when the broadcasters have not caught up to Samsung. I'm buying a 27" analog CRT this weekend and waiting for two years.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good TV IF The Bulb Doesn't Go Bad
My Samsung DLP is 90 Days Old and the bulb already went out. I estimate it had about 600 hours before it just wouldn't work anymore. A new bulb is $200 and should last 8,000 hours. Samsung is replacing the bulb for free but I am without a TV for 15-25 days. Hopefully it is only the bulb and nothing else with this Sansung 43" DLP. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Get ready for the future of television with the 32-inch, HD-ready Samsung TXN3271HF TV. It features 1080i and 480p display formats, 4:3 aspect ratio (with 16:9 enhanced mode), Samsung's DynaFlat anti-distortion, anti-glare flat picture tube, and a full complement of Samsung's advanced digital video features, including three-line digital comb filter, velocity scan modulation, and 3:2 pulldown cinema conversion.

The TXN3271HF offers Samsung's Digital Pro Picture three-stage video processing system that produces a high-performance picture from both analog and digital sources.

The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth theaterlike experience at home.

You'll need a separate HDTV tuner to receive high-definition broadcasts.

3-0 out of 5 stars Very good
I think other reviewers must work for Samsung's competition. Recently received mine and the picture quality is excellant. Yes, there are some extras missing I would like to have like PIP but after all, look at the price. Once again those other reviewers listed I suspect may be working in concert

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly designed, Poorly serviced
We bought a Samsung TXN3271HF 32" HDTV last August. We noticed about a month later that when watching TV in the dark the picture is "striped". That is parts of the screen are one darkness and part are another. We have had a very difficult time getting service help from Samsung. Calls to their service center go unreturned. When we finally got a referral to a competent local service company, the head tech told us that Samsung admits the design of the TV is flawed and that this problem is COMMON AND CANNOT BE FIXED! Do not buy this television! I have called Samsung service more than 12 times and never recieved a satisfactory answer to this problem.

1-0 out of 5 stars Known problem as reviewed above
Again, as post indicated above, standard cable is fuzzy and looks like there is some sort of compression going on. Not a clear picture like the other televisions. did extensive troubleshooting, Samsung admits fault and now has a new model, replacing this one..boy i wonder why! Those reading this, get the txn-3275hf which fixes this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
Please refer to richard's review of this TV (under reviews of the TXM3296HF 32" DynaFlat HDTV TV), my opinion is frighteningly similar. Not a technophile, but did ample research, read largely positive reviews of Samsung products. Receiving standard digital cable signal, picture was fuzzy, grainy--after much adjustment, no improvement. Also purchased at Best Buy. Returned to BB the next day to exchange for the Sony WEGA 32" HDTV. Will receive TV tomorrow, hope I'm as pleased at richard. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars 2 Years now
TV is good. Have had mine for 2 years now. One problem as with all these types of TV's, I would put on gray bars to put it to 4:3 size when watching regular TV and the bars started burning into the screen. You must always view in widescreen to avoid this, also, have the service plan if you can and have someone come out a align the projections every year. Makes a difference. Picture is great as a whole and DVD movies are really nice via componet video with progressive scan. Getting a deal on it, then I would grab it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Big Screen I've owned
Used primarly for video games, I've had it almost a year now & no problems. It has a rich & colorful picture that can be scene no matter where you are in the room. I just want it to be bigger.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great
I picked this unit up at [the store] because the picture was great on the floor, and it is at home to. If the absence of surround sound on this unit bothers you dont buy it, sound on board is good. I like it so far and is awesome with widescreen movies, sitting anywhere in the room is a pretty good viewing spot, but not to close. Remote is not super great in terms of sending signals. I had for 6 months and I love it so far. ... Read more
