2-0 out of 5 stars a PIECE OF CRAP
This radio was ok at first but after I used it for a week, and I don't mean rough use, just regular in the house never moves kind of use the cd player crapped out on me. I was so mad. I paid much, much too much for this and I don't advise that you waste your money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the money
I paid ($$$)for this unit brand new. I've only had it for a few weeks it performs nicely so far. The sound is good and it's sporty looking. If you can pick it up for a low price like I did, I highly recomend it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good buy but beware.
It is vary cool looking and the supper woofer is nice. But it takes way to many batteries for my taste (10 D’s for exact) if you are going to buy batteries buy rechargeable. The CD player has no shuffle (which I like). Note that the right supper woofer is [not real], (trust me I took it apart to see why it was not working its a plastic molding to look like one. I was upset and that is why I gave it 3*'s). Besides that I use it for roller hockey, it puts out a good LOUDE sound with nice quality and bass. (It takes stray shots fairly good with little skipping).

2-0 out of 5 stars Return To Sender
It came with a totally silent left-side woofer. This would take away 2 stars.

Other than that... it gets its second star for 'cuteness's. A third star can't be awarded - the cassette player controls are difficult to reach and is not as loud as one would expect.

As for its alleged 'ruggedness' - not so (see first paragraph).

Yorx, the manufacturer, has a 90-day warranty that asks you to ship it to their repair center, return prepaid, and wait to hear back from them. I'd rather send it one-way back to Amazon - I trust them a lot more than Yorx.

Overall impression: mediocre+.

2-0 out of 5 stars Sounded Great... Till it broke
This stereo Sounded Great until one day a channel stopped working. I was upset but my 3 month warranty was just up. Ok. Fine. At least I still have one channel and the Super Woofer left. Until today when they both quit working on me. Now I have to work in silence. I work in construction so the radio had some wear and tear, but I was very careful with it. This radio lasted the shortest length of time than any radio I have ever bought. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars good value
These are some harsh reviews I'm reading. I personally owned this CD player and am coming back for another. My last player lasted two years of constant use, dropping, crushing, occasional tossing you name it. The controls are simple, I can use it in the dark half asleep. The sound quality is fine with descent headphones. It's nothing fancy but under normal use the anti-skip is more than adequate. It DOES play all the CD-R's that I've encountered. The bass boost DOES work noticeably. I will however admit that the included headphones are of typical "street style" quality in terms of sound and brittle plastic construction. The inline volume adjust is too sensitive, a brush against your arm could cause the music to stop entirely or blast unexpectedly. Also after a few weeks it (the headset) started crackling. If you care at all about a pure sound you never would have put on the stock set on, there isn't a good set to be found on any player. It does not play MP3's but I've heard that most MP3's are of poor quality anyway. If you want luxury features or a status symbol you will be disappointed. If you want a simple reliable player that wont skip then you've found it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Worth it?
This is a pretty "cool" CD player and I like the 40 second anti-skip, but I bought it for my car. I have a nice little built-in space for a CD player in my car. Well, this particular CD player doesn't fit in it because the two outlet plugs are on either side of the player. One on the left, one on the right. This makes it wider, and therefore does not fit. That is really annoying! Plus, when the weather is too cold. It doesn't work. I can't keep it in my car in the winter. So depending on what you'll use it for, it's ok.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy This Discman
This Discman has given me many long hours of grief. The batteries die down so quickly. Also, it is not very compatible with CD-R's. If you buy this discman to save money, the batteries will cost way more in the long run. Go for a discman that uses at least 30 hours out of your batteries.

2-0 out of 5 stars Buy this if you feel like wasting $45
This cd player is really junky. there are so many down sides to it. 1)the headphones are really cheap. They were made of cheap plastic, and broke very easily. 2) The anti-skip feature is basically useless, since it still skipped when it was activated. 3) it's pretty bulky. 4)It doesn't play very long when you use 2 AA bateries instead of the AC adapter. 5) it doesn't play CD-R cd's. The only reason why I still gave this product 2 stars was because it was pretty good when it was new, and everything worked perfectly. However, this product is NOT worth it for the price. To be honest, a cheap CD player like this should be priced for $15.

2-0 out of 5 stars Your money can buy better
It looks pretty good for [the price] but there is more than what meets the eye. Let's start with the good qualities: 40 second anti-shock, bass-boost system, nice design, durable, one year warrany. Now the downsides: The anti-shock needs to build up for 40 seconds at the beginning of every track or each time you return from pause, so therefore if, say, you're jogging with your CD player, you need to wait 40 seconds so the anti-shock can build up, otherwise the bouncing will wear it off while it builds up. The bass-boost makes barely any difference. All it does is increase the volume VERY slightly. After a while, you sometimes need to press the buttons a few times before they actualy respond. The "open" button is very easy to accidently pressand the hold button doesn't stop it. If you drop it while listening to a CD, that part will always screw-up unless you have anti-shock active (The CD will still play fine in any other device, CD player or boombox). And the most annoying part yet (at least it happened to me this way): Last week I put in a CD and tried playing it and I noticed my right headphone wasn't working. I tried using a different set of headphones and the car kit too but it was still screwed. Though I found out that if I put the headphone jack half-way in, I can hear with both ears but only the left ear's part. So say I listen to Bohemian Rhapsody, which has a lot of stereo effects, I hear the left ear part in both ears and the right ear part is missing. REALLY ANNOYING!!! Oh yeah, and all this happened just after my warranty expired. AAAHHH!!! So since durability and nice design don't really count if the thing sucks, the bottom line is buy this if you think [theprice] is worth it for a slightly under average CD player that's good for a year. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Spartan though functional player
Being a long haul semi driver I've found that MP3's are the solution to my audio needs since swapping a normal CD every 80 minutes while driving is impractical and some would argue downright dangerous. Originally I had an RCA 2410 which was as useless as a milk pail under a bull, and then later an RCA 2450 which was just the same. For a year I used my laptop as my player but after dropping it multiple times it has ceased to function. A colleague of mine purchased the GPX 3960 for his own use which caused me to laugh long and hard. To me GPX has always been one of those joke brands that you would expect to find in an Alco store (those of you in the midwest will understand) sitting on the shelf by the Emersons. But when he reported that his worked great I had to get one for myself and so far I've grown attached to it.
Unlike the 2 RCA's I've had, this one isn't terribly picky about the burn speed you use to create your CDR's or CDR-W's (yes they work too), the RCA 2410 would sometimes work if you burned at 1x, this model plays just fine on CDR's that were burned at 16x, might even work at higher speeds though I haven't tried yet. Also, it doesn't hang on mp3's encoded at 320 kbps or even variable bit rates. It also has both line out and head phone out jacks, a feature I haven't seen on portable CD players in years. There are some negative drawbacks that keep this from receiving 5 stars. First, it does skip from time to time, though I don't believe it's caused from vibrations since it has survived with flying colors the I70 across Missouri torture test. The skipping must be from occasional read errors though it usually recovers and continues where as both RCA models would either hang all day or jump to another region of the disk. Second, the randomize feature doesn't randomize very well, by that I mean no matter what track I put it to act as the seed for it's random generator it always will play the same order. Third, the interface is very clumsy, changing directories requires pressing two buttons in an esoteric manner so I usually just keep hitting advance to get the directory I want. Fourth, and most annoying, is the slow speed of the fast forward feature. At least it actually does go forward, unlike the RCA 2410 which would go 5 seconds forward and 6 seconds back, but the sluggishness makes fast forwarding through an audiobook ripped from tape a nightmare, and you can't advance to the next track and then rewind. Other minor annoyances are the lack of a backlit display, lack of a cigarette lighter adapter (car users may want to consider snagging a cheap inverter since it only comes with an AC adapter),lack of a cassette adapter, and some may find the lack of MP3 management software bothersome. Sound quality? Well, keep in mind I'm running through a cassette deck in a Kenworth T2000's stock stereo system and the only other experience I have with MP3 players are the RCA's and my laptop. The RCA's, especially the RP 2450 had a rather thin sound to it while this model sounds on par with the laptop.
I can't comment on how the more expensive players such as the RioVolt or iRiver will serve your needs, but if you're looking for a low priced player and can live with the aforementioned annoyances then this one is definitely worth a look. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars avoid this product
I bought this walkman thinking i would get a good deal on it. However the quality is extremely poor. The walkman is extremely bulky at best. The headphones are poor. The sound qualiyt is worse, often you would be only able to get sound out of one ear. There is no rewing button so listening to casettes can be difficult. In addition, the switch that changes the walkman from casette to radio is difficult to use, this goes for the power button as well.

Bottom line, get someting else.

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT
This product is a cheap cheap cheap cheap run of the mill product. Yea it looks cool, all digital like but really when u get it is all plastic like and the cassette player eats tapes, at least it ate my tape and the head phones are chincy and don't work and u can only get sound in one ear and they are really bad. and i would not reccomend buying this product, i would go for sumthing better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Tape Player not that Good!
This cassette player is ok, the radio player is pretty good, except for some stations, like 89X, it doesn't come out very good. and the tape player doesn't work very good, it actually ate one of my tapes! i fixed the tape but i havn't played any tapes in it, i just got it today, 1-4-01, and i might return it, unless i can get it to work, the radio, which i bascally ordered the whole thing for is pretty good, and that is why i bought it for when i go running, and biking... so it is ok, i would get it for the radio but not for the tape player.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful
I bought this product and it is godawful. I may have gotten a faulty one because the sound is so awful. The range and sound separation is terrible and the volume is horrible. I tried to use it on a long plane trip and was very dissapointed.

1-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
This tape player doesn't have a rewind button, and flipping the tape so you can fast-forward it instead is a pain in the middle of a workout. The headphones are also low quality; they certainly don't handle the full volume range of the player, which isn't even that great. The radio reception is also poor. In sum: Bad radio, low volume, terrible headphones, no rewind. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars GPX JUNK
I got a GPX CD player for Christmas and it broke the 2nd time I used. TARGET wouldn't exchange it becuase I didn't have a receipt (It was a dang Christmas present!) I called GPX and they wanted me to ship the player back to them which cost $10 and mail them a check for $15. So it would cost me another $25 to replace it.GPX makes lousy products. You would have to be a FOOL to buy this product.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good Product at first, then becomes a piece of junk!!
When I first got the DVD Player for Chirstmas 2 years ago, I was amazed by the clarity of the picture. Then a year later, the player went bad, first stopped reading one dvd disc, then a few, now all. The player used to play those dvds but now cannot get a picture from the player. The DVDs could play easily in my PANASONIC DVD-LV750 PORTABLE much better than the GPX product. A portable simply did better than this product, that is no excuse. Simply, the product went bad just like many cheap, off-brand items do.

5-0 out of 5 stars as good as component video dvd players
i mainly was using this for the karaoke features, but when i compared the svideo output against my toshiba sd1600 that has component video outs hooked up to my toshiba 65" hdtv widescreen, i saw no difference.i looked at the same movies, same scenes and the picture was great!!!i was truly amazed.plus it has vcd, svcd and karaoke features that my toshiba didn't have.now my toshiba sd1600 is collecting dust while my gpx gets shelf on the entertainment center!

5-0 out of 5 stars Much Better Than Expected
I bought his a week or two before Christmas. I wasn't expecting much -- I'd never even heard of GPX -- I mainly picked it up because it was the cheapest one there and it had a 3x zoom. Let me tell ya', it's a very good player and well-worth the [$] I paid for it. The picture is sharp and the sound is much louder & clearer than anything I've ever heard on a VHS. There's even a pointless karaoke option for when you are drunk and want to embarrass yourself in front of friends & family.

Now it's not perfect, on the newer DVDs -- ones with the dual-layer format -- your always going to get a slight pause an hour-something into the movie when it switches over to the second layer. I'm not positive; but I believe almost every low/midrange player that doesn't have a dual-laser reading thing is going to do this when it switches layers. I wouldn't say this is even that annoying though -- the people putting the movie onto DVD know this and make sure to place the layer switch during a scene break or something. I have 27 DVDs at the moment and none of the dual-layer ones have layer switches during action scenes/when people are talking, or anything like that. Basically, if you blink at the right time; you might miss it altogether.

Now on the plus side, I really like the 3x zoom option. I always make sure to get widescreen versions because you can just hit the zoom button which makes it fairly close to the TV format. The 3rd zoom is kind of pointless though -- none of the DVDs I've played have enough picture quality to show a decent picture on 3x (I doubt many do at the moment).

The only other thing I can think to point out is that you might want to turn it off for about 15 minutes between movies to let it cool down. I had a few very slight freezes once near the end of Saving Private Ryan, and I think the player had been on for about four hours. I have to attribute it to being on so long since that's the only time it's happened.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product, needs more advertising
I recently purchased this product as a gift (for myself :) ) and i didn't expect much.Gpx has never been much of a brand name, and i had no intention of using it that much. Now, after spending countless hours watching ALL of the DVD movies I can get my hands on, i have a new perspective. It is merely the name that keeps this product from being a bestseller.Dont look at external appearances, read into it, watch the EXTREMELY high quality movies, and enjoy life! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not good
I guess because of the price I should rank it higher. But I had another walkman that did the job in this price range. I lost it and had to buy this one. It was terrible. The sound was so bad I cannot even listen to it. No sound separation or range at all. I could barely make out the music I was listening to. Go for a higher end model cause this one is a waste of 13 bucks. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Release the rock & roller or lounge singer raging inside you with this compact karaoke party machine. Sing along to your favorite tapes using the built-in dual cassette deck or connect to a TV and VCR to see the lyrics when you play a karaoke VHS tape. You can also sing along to the built-in AM/FM radio tuner.

The C1285 includes a sampler videotape with seven tracks, including Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," The Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody," and Bill Haley and the Comets' "Rock Around the Clock." The optional echo effect adds a distinct reverb to the vocal, which you can use to simulate a concert hall.

While singing alone is fun, this unit shines in social situations. The two omnidirectional microphones allow you to harmonize or perform a duet with a friend. The compact design and helpful carrying handles enable you to take the C1285 just about anywhere.

While this portable system delivers hours of fun, it is worth noting that the audio quality is not topnotch. The sound was a bit muffled, which is probably due to the bargain-quality cassette player and speakers. However, this shortcoming is a tradeoff for the great value this party machine offers.

Pros:

  • Dual microphone support for duets
  • Compact and lightweight design for portable use
  • Echo effect for fun vocal enhancements

Cons:

  • Audio quality is marginal

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy
Cute tv - very good for the office, but after about 6 months the button to switch between tv & radio stop working. So now I don't have a tv or radio to listen to. Save your money, buy something else.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you like the smell of smoldering plastic... buy this tv!
I bought this tv last Aug/Sept, here it is a mere 4 months later and it is already kaput. The first thing to break was the antenna. It was held in place by a dinky little plastic tab which promptly snapped off after a few times adjusting for reception. Three days ago the picture tube blew and I mean it BLEW. First a puff of black smoke and then the tv nearly caught fire in my living room! I could smell the wires and plastic melting. BUYER BEWARE! This is a real lemon and a fire hazard.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unhappy customer
I bought this little TV for my husband for X-mas 12/2000, within two weeks the TV will not give us a picture for any station. The first two weeks we thought it was the best product that we bought, but now we're very disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars not bad
THis T.V. is very handy for traveling ang keeping kids occupied in a long car trip but the reception isn't that good. It gives you a good selection of channels but you have to turn a different angle for a channel. My cousin once had to watch t.v laying down! Overall, I think this is a good product and anyone with kids should buy it. ... Read more
