4-0 out of 5 stars I'd pay 5 Times as much!
I was really just looking for a small radio to take on my nightly walks. Most radios with DIGITAL tuning lock into one signal and allow NO adjustment whatsoever. Not very good when you're trying to fine tune a station. That and the price caught my eye on this little piece of electronics magic!

First off, the receptation is good to excellant anywhere I have taken it. I notice that the AM stations also are not plaqued with static from other devices like some radios.

Second, the headphones are better than most people have stated. True, I replaced them...but they still are pretty decent sounding compared to what I expected.

Third, the EQ setting (Both TREBLE & BASS). These are nice features on a 3 dollar radio and work adequetly. They really don't do much but let you adjust out some hiss you may encounter, but are still handy when fine tuning a station.

Getting almost 20 hours on my first set of AA batteries was also a nice surprise. This sucker is pretty dang durable as well, taking numerous falls on the pavement.

I really can't say too much more but BUY THIS RADIO and you will no be disappointed...

4-0 out of 5 stars Easily worth the money
Exceptionally pleased with the quality of performance from this small unit. For the money, this is top drawer. I would highly recommend this am/fm radio for anyone looking for a quality unit for listening while you move the lawn, etc.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
The sound from this thing is really good.Though the chrome knobs get dirty easily. It is also kind of big for just a radio. The shape is nice though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for its price
The only complaint is that when I tried to use a better headphone, there was considerable hiss. Otherwise pretty good.

5-0 out of 5 stars dynamite
this is a really good am fm radio on the cheaps it holds 2 double a batteries for max power i was impressed with the quality for sure ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for me
I purchased this CD player at a local store. I needed a portable device and this one was recommended by the store employee. I was only able to use the CD player sucessfully once, then it stopped working. I was trying to play a CD I purchased, not one that was CD-R. I would not recommend this CD player.

2-0 out of 5 stars Forget those CD-R's
This player works OK, except with CD-R's, which was one of the reasons I wanted it to begin with. My CD-R's play fine on my old player, but not this cute portable one. I was very disappointed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Consider another product.
I received this as a gift, so I'm glad I didn't have to shell for this. I am in agreement with the others who say that this product has defects. In my case, it is the radio. I listen to the radio more than I play cassettes or CDs, but it takes a ton of jiggling the settings slider before it will come on and stay on. And forget turning the radio off...then I must start the ritual again. It is very frustrating. The cassette player works well, and the cd player is adequate--not great--but adequate.

3-0 out of 5 stars Cute but fuzzy
This cd player is compact, cute and handy. However, especially when listening with headphones at low volumes there is a very annoying background buzz. It goes away at higher volumes. But- for the visually inclined, it looks great on my desk!

1-0 out of 5 stars looks don't count in this case!
I got this CD boombox because it looked awsome! But, in this case, looks do NOT count! I got this ONE year after I ordered it...and the sound is all crackly and uneven. The plastic (yes, PLASTIC) cover to the CD broke within half a week, and the speakers got scratched up and full of dust, though I tried cleaning it (WITHIN TWO WEEKS!) So, I suggest you TRY to look at other boomboxes before you buy this one, okay? (...) In my opinion, just stay on the safe side... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I thought it was just me...
I ordered this as a Christmas gift for myself, but it was not worth it. I thought my volume control was the only messed up one, but I see other customers have the same complaint. I took it to the repair man, and he told me it would cheaper to buy another one instead of trying to get it fixed. I have used GPX before, but never again. This item is nice for decoration, but horrible for reliability. I have it sitting nice in my room, but never use it, because I am affraid it is going to blast my ears off. This stero is not worth it, invest your money elsewhere.!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars JUNK...JUNK...JUNK
I was a dedicated Target fan but his ruined it for me. Ordered the first one, volume was either blasting loud or super soft. Still not unhappy, just thought it was a one in a million thing. Ordered a replacement. Guess what, volume didn't work on this one either. Still not unhappy. Decided it would be best just to get a refund and start all over on my search for a cd player.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware...
I am a dedicated Target fan, BUT this almost ruined it for me. I ordered this CD player, and when it arrived it worked for all of 1 hour. Then the volume didn't work. 3-0 out of 5 stars durable & reliable
I needed a karaoke machine for my 7 yr old daughters birthday party. It made it through a night with 15 girls it should last a life time!! I like that it had the dual cassettes, cd & the best part was that it displayed the words on the tv. I recommended this item to my sister, cousins ,aunts etc! Its an excellent karaoke machine for beginners.

3-0 out of 5 stars GPX/Yorx Karaoke Machine
This is a decent karaoke machine, although the supplied microphone is not omni-directional, and the VHS tape has poor quality. There seems to be a slight problem with feedback, since the microphone's short cord does not allow one to move far from the unit. My only suggestion for improvement other than the faults I mentioned above would be for GPX/Yorx to enter the Internet age by supplying an email address for customers to contact them, or at least a toll free number so that reporting packaging flaws over the phone did not result in phone bills equal to the item's purchase price. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars If you want a CD Alarm Clock, Do not buy this
I got this item for christmas a few years ago and from the begining the CD player has not worked, It will start to play and then about 6 minutes into the CD it will stop.

Amazon.com Review

With the many competing brands of portable CD players available in the $50 to $75 price range, it's difficult for us to recommend the GPX C3946BI.

Although the C3946BI has lots of features, including a car adapter kit and volume control, we found its best asset to be its 40-second electronic antishock protection (ESP). With the ESP engaged, we dropped the player and bumped it repeatedly without causing the music to skip.

Unfortunately, even the antiskip feature has its flaws. Because the ESP button sticks out from the side, it was prone to being accidentally turned off each time we lifted the player.

The player's build quality is below average, with a design that offers fake screws as part of the lid's plastic mold.

The supplied headphones are among the least impressive we've heard in a portable CD player, exhibiting very little dynamic range and distorting frequently in the midrange.

Although the headphones come with a volume control, the circuit that's used to adjust the volume level hissed each time we moved the slide-rule-type control, with the music fading in and out and distorting through the headphones.

The supplied car kit did nothing to convince us the C3946BI's faults lie specifically with its headphones. When we plugged the player into our vehicle's normally impressive six-speaker sound system, the music distorted in the higher frequencies and demonstrated weak bass, indicating the built-in digital-to-analog converter is below average. --Eric Gill

Pros:

  • Impressive antiskip memory buffer
  • Lots of features

Cons:

  • Unimpressive build quality

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Buy
This is a great CD player for anyone. It's sleek design is easy to grasp, and it gives you great sound quality. This certaintly is a good buy. I personally enjoyed that it dosen't skip. Because I like to listen to my player while I'm running.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tight player
This cd player is tight its rockin itself out with 40 second anti shock tight frames form tha cover nothing less to carry around showin it off. car kit is kewl to no doubt im luvin this cd player go out and buy this thang right here

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the best!
My mom got me this cd player as a backup to my almost 3 year old Aiwa cd player.I liked the cool look so much I had to have it!
When I got it...I was amazed it came with a AC adapter because alot of cheap ones don't.We both wanted to know how it sounded,so I played a cd on it right out of the box.My mom thought it sounded ok.The headphones are poor and [bad] in the bass department but do show some full-range dynamics.GPX calls them "digital headphones" but they are not!
I prefer to use my Sony headphones which gives the DBBS a REAL bass sound. The ESP is a God send.It makes this cd player unskipable beyond even the Sony's new anti-skip feature!
Yes it might stick out from the side like a sore thump, but if you put the HOLD button on it won't disengage when bumped(something the editor and 2 reviewers missed to examine).
The carkit is another God send,it works well.If you have a subwoofer the DBBS works very well in the bass department.Only cons I have is the headphones sound pretty [bad],and this cd player doesn't play CDRW's well.I highly recommend this cd player to people looking for a great, cheap discman that will play their CD's and CDR's(and don't mind buying a good pair of headphones).

5-0 out of 5 stars Clock radio deluxe....
It won't replace your stereo, but it is so much better than a simple clock radio. It has better reception and much better sound than a simple clock radio. The hour and minute setting buttons are separate (i.e. very easy to set the time/alarm). The alarm is pretty loud, but isn't music so much nicer an option anyway? No digital display though and probably not something you want to drop on the floor too often (just a hunch - I may be wrong). Size: 6 x 7 x 7 inches. Very happy with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Waking up can be so easy
This clock is a dream compared to the EEEEE EEEEE EEEEE noise that used to wake me up. I pop in a wake-me-up CD and my day is a-rolling. It larger than the average alarm clock, but smaller than the average CD player. This product has the best of both worlds.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great sound, but awkward controls
This radio has a good digital clock readout, but it is not a digital radio. Once you get a station the sound is very good, and controls for the clock are right up front, but I always have to check the side for the proper on/off setting. Those side buttons are small, and you have to turn it from side to side to be sure you have it right. Also, plastic casing seems insubstantial. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Read this before you buy
This CD player works only if you are sitting absolutely still and breathing shallow. It's heavy, large and the headphones are junk. It does produce a good sound though and I think it works much better with the ESP off rather than on. There are much better products on the market for less money.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is the WORST BRAND!!!!!!!!!
Giving this brand one star is too much. The first one I received the volume didn't work. I returned it and received a replacement. Well guess what, the second will not read ANY CD! I have learned my lesson with this brand. I will never purchase another product from this company. It is not worth the time and hasssle in my opinion. For anyone wanting to purchase a portable CD player, buy the extra few dollars and save yourself a headache.

1-0 out of 5 stars THE VERY VERY VERY WORST!
I bought this CD player and it was a total waste of money!First of all, it skips on almost every song and you have topractically turn it off then on again to get it to work for a fewseconds and then skip again. Also, although it is called a"slimline", I can't even fit it into my huge cargo pocket onmy pants. The headphones are very crappy too; I had to buy another...pair!If you buy this you might as well just flush your [money] downthe toilet!

1-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!
I bought two of these units for my kids to use on their bus rides to school. After a couple months the skipping became terrible. The sound was never clean- maybe a function of the flimsy headphones. In any case, I'm trying to get the things serviced by the company, but it doesn't look promising. As others have said, "Hello Sony!"

5-0 out of 5 stars GPX
This product was soo cool...i had been looking for a cd player for a long long time and i finally found this one, it never skips even when u drop it and the esp makes it do ur music is crystal clear in the car. Its tiny and very lightweight so it wouldnt be drag to carry around. I really like it. it was good for the price ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Trying to contact manufacturer (GPX) directly
Hope you can lead me in the right direction. I have two boys, ages 10 & 12, who received GPX Model C3853G Portable CD Players for Christmas last year. The CD players work fine, unfortunately they have lost the covers for where the batteries go in. They both lost the cover for their CD player. Can you supply the address for the manufacturer? If this Model CD player is no longer made, we will need to purchase new ones, with battery covers intact.

Thanks for your help.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Product.....But
I bought this product for price to try out the idea of having a portable CD player. I unfortunately failed to realize that it DOES NOT have Anti-Shock. The music quality of the this system is AWESOME! The headphones played well even on the higher setting and it was crystal clear. For me the music quality in conjunction with the super low price makes this product a wonderful item to get if you are not yet willing to pay the rather high prices for the others. As well it is perfect for those who plan to use it in stationary places like commuting and outdoors. This is unfortunately not the case if you plan on doing ANY exercise or excessive movement. Without the Anti-shock the product skips rather frequently. While it doesn't lose its place in the song nor does it stop playing the occasional scratching sound of the skips can be annoying. As for the other reviews claiming that the product did not work this player comes with a "lock" feature to prevent accidental button pushing.

1-0 out of 5 stars At least the headphones worked....
I thought CD players were supposed to actually play music. This one doesn't.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is pretty good
When I bought I thought it was gonna be a beat up cd player but found it to be a reliable cd player with a pretty cheap price. It is awsome to just get for a replacement while trying to put stress off of your expensive cd player.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this product

Amazon.com Review

The GPX FRS100 is an incredibly cheap FRS radio for people who don't need a lot of features but don't believe the rugged sports design tagline for a second. The worst thing about this radio is its construction quality, which is a far cry from the truly (and more expensive) rugged FRS devices we've tested.

This radio can transmit and receive on only the first two of FRS's 14 available channels, so it is practically worthless at the amusement park or in a similarly crowded environment where FRS usage is heavy. The radio works best when you are communicating with companions while doing things like camping or driving in a convoy. In these situations, the FRS100 shines, delivering decent sound quality at a range of up to (and sometimes beyond) one mile.

Since the radio supports so few features, it is extremely easy to use. Holding down the channel button switches between the two available channels, which are indicated by LEDs on the front of the radio. Volume can be adjusted using a pair of up/down buttons in the center, and a button on the side is pressed to transmit. It doesn't get much simpler. We were surprised to discover that there are headphone and microphone jacks on top of the radio, and that's the best way to use it while driving if you're willing to spring for a compatible headset unit.

Our only gripe is that GPX is advertising this radio as a rugged design when it's anything but. It uses a plastic housing that has rubber nubs down each side that give the appearance of protecting the case if the radio is dropped. In reality, the rubber doesn't extend past the plastic it presumably exists to protect. If this radio hits the ground, the plastic is going to hit first, and the results likely won't be pretty.

This isn't the radio for your next ascent up K2, but it is a cheap alternative for road trips, neighborhood communication, and hikes. --T. Byrl Baker

Pros:

  • Very cheap
  • Easy to use

Cons:

  • Only supports two FRS channels
  • Design less shock-absorbent than advertised

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW!
This product is great! If you are looking for a 2-way radio to use with your family or friends, this is the one. It is not to take to sports games because it only has 2 frequensies, but otherwise it is the model radio. Great for events where many people have to communicate because it costs only $22. The "monitor" function that blocks out noise and background is great. There is NO static at ALL! You need new batteries because any that have been partially used will not work correctly. This gave me crystal clear reception from a mile a way.

Very convenient for vacations. It is good rule of thumb to have a radio anyway.

The batteries last up to 30 hours (I actually got about 35 out of them.)

If you are concerned that these are not made well they are so cheap, I tell you that I had the same concern. However with other radios costing up to $50 each, I had no choice. Now I realise this was the correct way to go!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the price
I was a little hesitant to purchase a pair of GPX FRS100 radios because of the low price and no previous experience, however they have lived up to the billing. I was pleasantly surprised at the range they work at. In my testing, I could communicate up to 2 KM (from inside our home to the inside of my office building with a large two-storey structural metal building in between). I read the review about sturdiness. It's housed in a plastic case but one of my kids dropped one on the sidewalk and it's still kicking with no ill effects. There's only two channels, but in my area that's plenty. After all, you can only use one channel at a time anyway and if the kids inadvertently switch channels, there's only one other channel to try to reach them.

1-0 out of 5 stars Piece of S--t!
Bought a pair, from circuit city, and it didn't even work. FYI, made in China.

5-0 out of 5 stars Roger Roger
Whatever your name is even Roger this radio is for you with a 2mile range and an automatic squelch control you can do anything in it! It's compact design allows you to go anywhere! It will work anywhere. In the mall, on a road trip, In a museum, at the park. Keep in touch! Never get lost again. With two channels means you will have a nice private channel to yourself. If you are looking for a well built sturdy and rugged radio the GPS FRX 100 is for you! END ... Read more

The GPX D750 is an AM/FM clock radio that combines practical features with powerful sound to gently rock you into wakefulness each morning. Choose to wake to the alarm, your favorite radio station, or CD. The dual alarm is great for working couples who get up at different times, since each alarm can be set individually. The snooze button will temporarily switch the alarm off and let you rest a little while longer. The 9-volt battery backup works to maintain the time and alarm settings in case of a power outage. 3-0 out of 5 stars Strong on parts, weak on design
The industry behind this machine is fine - the parts, the labor, the detail, all no problem. But the design is weak. In particuarly, the sound is too narrowly directed. The front-loading of all the speakers is a poor choice for an instrument whose audience might be less than a foot away. Nonetheless, the sound is clear, and the placement of controls is better than some other models.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stopped after 3 Months
Bought this at Christmas 2001. By mid-March, it would not work. IF the time displayed, it was 18:88. (Since this is in another review, it must be a common failure mode.) The radio and CD player would not work either.

DO NOT buy this product. Select another clock/radio/CD.

1-0 out of 5 stars Petered Out After 4 months
After only 4 months of use, this product shutdown completely. I woke up one morning and in the time display showed 18:88. After unplugging the radio and waiting a good 2 hours, I plugged the radio back on the same thing appeared on the display. Everything stopped working, the CD, the time, the radio as well as the on and off button. NOTHING was working! I must say, I was extremely disappointed in this product and I felt as if I was cheated.

4-0 out of 5 stars An inexpensive CD player, fine for a young child's room.
We purchased this CD player to play CDs and soft music at bedtime for our child. For the price, it's not bad. As stated in a previous review - it does lack bass. Also no digital radio but the reception is very good. It's also compact and the buttons are small enough that the kids won't fool around with it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Perfect size for the baby room
This was just what I was looking for to play music in the baby room. The bass sound is not as booming as I would like but the overall sound quality is very good. I don't use all of the functions this unit has but the power on and play buttons are easy to find. I would recommend this to anyone who wants an easy to operate small cd player. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Red, What Red?
What I got doesn't really look like the picture. I like RED, I wanted RED, but did I get red? NO! This player is in no way RED. It's sooo pink. It's a kind of hot pink color. Yuck! But hey that's my opinion. If you think red and pink are the same color, then this is the player for you! By the way, instead of getting that nice slivery surrounding cover, you get a plastic-looking cheap cover. It looks like one of those play time Barbie toys that doesn't really work. But hey, you can always use your imaginations and imagine the perfect RED CD player amazon displays. If I had a little sister, she would score a new CD player! The reason why it even has any stars are because I love its sound! The BASS is great! It's really good when I'm listening to "No Strings Attached" by 'N Sync (Go and buy that album! It's the best CD yet!) and "Bringin' Da Noise" (tract 9) is on! Oh the sound! The head phones in the picture and what you get are totally different! These are so annoying! These won't last (that's why it's always good to have an extra pair, hehe!) Um, well, it's your money. Do whatever you want. Actually this is a pretty nice player if you're into bright pink and you're 6-11 years old. Have a nice day! Happy listening (to another player!)

5-0 out of 5 stars I miss my CD player... : (
Not too long ago I got this cd player and I was coming home from a trip and as I walked in my front door, I dropped it on our tile front entry-way. I was soooo mad cuz I broke it!!! This is a totally awesome player!! It's cheap and it works great-the bass is much better than most!! The color/design is totally awesome, and the sound adjustment on the cord is totally convenient!! (that's what I miss the most) so I've come online to order a new one and decided to write a review. I will warn buyers though that the picture is slightly decieving cuz the silvery trim is actually more of a see-through milk white color.(which I like better anyways) Also if you buy one, be extra careful with the headphones when you put them on... they aren't as sturdy as most. and I didn't think about it but it does eat up batteries pretty quickly- but I liked it a LOT > so I really don't care!

5-0 out of 5 stars SO CUTE
This is such a good cd player. I give it 5 stars the bass
is the bomb!

2-0 out of 5 stars bad.
this cd player is D rated material. for one, the battery life is extremely short. about 5 hours on a pair of fresh duracell batteries. that ranks it to a B-. another thing is the sound. about average. thats a C+. then theirs the anti skip. it barely works. all in all, D.

4-0 out of 5 stars good player works great
When my cd player broke I looked for a new one and found this which works great my favorite features are the hold, esp, and bass boost system. I've dropped it a few times and it still works. Even my friends think it looks cool and gives very good sound with the right earphones. ... Read more
