2-0 out of 5 stars GE 72585
This radio does not provide good AM reception at all. In Chicago, it is difficult to receive any of the 50,000-watt stations without constantly adjusting the dial and the radio position. I understand it is small, and its FM reception is quite good, but to take this radio to a baseball game as an earlier reviewer suggested leaves one very disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better quality pocket transistor radios around
Although GE's first version of this model, the 72585-A, was of bad quality, the company really shone through with their (internal) re-design -- model 72585-B.

Thomson (the makers and owners of the GE Electronics brand) corrected the annoying volume and reception fluctuations that plagued this radio when listening to FM (you had to turn up the radio to max volume and also you would frequently loose the station you were listening to.

On this model, Thomson also pumped up the radio's speaker output, so you don't have to turn up the radio so much to get a decent volume in a noisy environment. Also the idea of incorporating the FM antenna into the headphone jack (so you don't have to raise the FM whip when listening to FM stations with your stereo earphones) was ingenious. You can put the radio in your pocket and not worry about snapping the antenna off.

I just wish that this radio came with a slightly larger-diameter speaker (about 2" would be nice), to make the sound less tinny. Otherwise, it's a neat radio. I bought two from Amazon last year - one for daily use and one for backup in case I drop this one. :-)

4-0 out of 5 stars CD doesn't give live performance justice
Okay, I agree that this is probably not the best CD out there... But if any of you have caught a live show of the The Incredible Moses Leroy, you would have a whole new appreciation for his music. (He incorporates a lot of irony and personality that I feel is totally lost by a simple introduction to the music through the CD.) However, I think even listening to the CD a few times to get into the groove and really listen to the lyrics is enough to get the idea. It seems to flow together in it's entirety rather than as separate tracks. For myself at least, it didn't hit its groove until I did so. Now I'm addicted.

4-0 out of 5 stars Terrific pocket radio
It's true, as other reviewers have noted, that this unit won't give you the sort of reception you might expect from a larger, higher-priced unit. On the other hand, this is an excellent pocket-sized radio for toting along to the ballgame, carrying along on a hike or to the park, or tucking next to your pillow in bed. It's very thin and light, and the controls are all flush with the case, so it packs well. It won't fill a room with sound - it's not intended to - but it plays loud enough to listen to from a few feet, and the headphone jack can be used for private listening. Overall this is a nice, up-to-date rendition of the classic pocket radios from the 1950s dawn of the transistor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good deal.
This is a handy little radio that is pretty darn rugged. It went to South America for the summer and performed pretty well under very adverse conditions. Battery use was great. It now resides in the small Paraguayan village of Costa Jhu, receiving lots of soccer games I am told. For the price, it's a gem. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars reliable and simple
I used this phone for a little over a year and was very satisfied with it. Just sold it because I'm moving up to the 2.4 GHz frequency. This phone is very simple in appearance and it is very easy to use! If you hold down the Play/Stop button for the answering machine it rattles off all of the instructions for using the phone, so the manual isn't even needed! The sound quality from the handset I have found to be very good. I think there are 5 different levels of volume. The answering machine is clear, but can be a little scratchy but this could be due to the caller's phone as well. Overall, this is a very good phone and I would recommend it to everyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars I've suffered almost all of the problems reported
To save time, I've suffered almost all the problems in the previous review of this product. First three months was ok. But after that the battery died. I've changed three batteries but still can not talk more than 3 minutes on this phone ( it always gives annoying beeps telling lowing battery ). So the only usable part for me is the answering machine. But $50 for an answering machine?

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this phone
We've had this phone for over 3 years. We have had several problems with it that started within that first year. Several of the dialing buttons have stopped being responsive, making it almost impossible to dial a number without dialing from another phone and then switching. A lot of times, I have a really hard time hearing people on the phone no matter what I do with the volume. Finally, if we happened to leave the phone off the hook overnight, the next time I tried to use it it was low battery.

I've had no problems with the answering machine - it is simple and easy to use, but I would avoid this phone if possible. I know another couple that bought this phone, and they've been having these same problems even after exchanging it for another one.

1-0 out of 5 stars No More GE for me
After using GE phones for years with great reliability, I will never again buy their phones. The past 2 I owned have been utter lemons. This unit worked OK for a while, then the sound started cutting out. The phone would just randomly mute itself and cut out every now and then. Then, the 5, 6, and 7 buttons just stopped working. God help you if you wanted to dial a number with a 5, 6, or 7. Was never abused and always kept near full charge. I find it funny that it started malfunctioning right after the warranty expired. Never again will I buy their rubbish. When GE used to actually make their own stuff, it was decent. Now that they just buy cheap-o Chinese junk and re-brand it with their logo, their stuff is horrible. Avoid this and all other so called "GE" products!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Skip It
Pros: Nice looking, easy to use, good control from remote phones, feels solid, lasted 2 years and still same as new.

Cons: Occasional bizarre loss of connection with base (needs to be turned face-up in base for 10 seconds to reconnect!), 1 hour talk time between full charges (which is totally unacceptable), very poor message clarity.

I would just pass on this one even though it was relatively cheap for its day. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very happy, but...
We bought this phone a few weeks ago, and I wanted to try it out a bit before writing a review. I should mention that the major reason we bought it was because Consumer Reports called it the best value in 2.4Ghz phones. I'm quite pleased with every aspect of the phone, especially the answering system, the "look and feel," and the quality of the features (ex. handset volume is adjustable to 5 levels, crystal clear sound on answering system greeting and messages, caller ID is advanced while also being simple to use). Of course, the most important issue with a cordless phone is reception, and on this, the GE phone comes up a bit short. It's true that if you stay near the base, you get great sound. But if you wander a bit, you begin to hear the occasional click and hiss. One more thing, the 2.4 GHz is almost *too* strong. It sometimes picks up conversations coming from other cordless phones in the area. We live in a large apt. building, so it happens more than it would if you're living in a single family. A quick channel change usually clears up that problem, but it's still annoying when it happens. Despite these minor issues, the phone is a keeper.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful phone
This phone is just awful. The buttons stick, the volume is low you can barely hear the party on the other line. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!! It is a waste of money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this phone!
I bought this phone about 18 months ago, and have not been happy with it from the beginning. I thought I just needed to get "adjusted" to it...no!
NOW, the buttons are "broken"......you have to pound on ALL of them to get them to work. I live alone, so it's not like there is a rough-and-tumble bunch of kids using it.
Also, the answering system is below quality, and when you are receiving another call, the call-waiting buzz/beep is WAY too long.
Overall, a very, very disappointing purchase. I am now in the process of looking for a replacement.
DON'T buy this phone

1-0 out of 5 stars Is there a -1 star rating?
The GE phones are awful. The caller ID displays new calls in random order, all over the place with previously logged in calls. About a month out of warranty the base unit now has to be unplugged about once a week to reset normal functioning. GE customer service is of no help, basically statings "This is the way the phone normally operates." Yeah, right... My gut reaction after trying the phone at home was to take it right back. I wish I had.

1-0 out of 5 stars Awful!
Bought this thinking I was purchasing a good product by a reputable company. Bad move! The handset constantly loses 'communication' with the base and the caller ID doesn't work consistently either. I went to bed last night with the handset fully charged and sitting on my nightstand. I woke up with nothing on the caller ID, the speaker button on the base lit up and the handset in use. To top it off, I had a new message from my friend on my answering machine! Huh!?! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a keeper
This model worked OK for about 9 months, then the caller ID quit working. It would work for a short stretch and then go out. I agree with the complaint about the volume, also.

2-0 out of 5 stars Looks Better Than it Operates
The two phones are handy, and the wired base station is great to have as backup during power outage. However the speakerphone volume is too low and the recording quality poor. Also, there was distortion while speaking on the wired handset that was bothersome. Lastly, my family complained of "echo" and inconsistent volume while speaking on the instrument, wired or wireless.

2-0 out of 5 stars Less than satisfactory
While I was very pleased with the overall design of the phones, the implementation just didn't impress me enough. A few of the "soft" buttons on the handsets didn't work properly, which made programming the phones or working with their advanced features very difficult. More importantly, there seemed to be a high signal to noise ratio while actually using the phone, even after moving the base station to different locations. I guess 2.4GHz is just too crowded, at least in my apartment. I ended up returning the product after 3 days. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Phone
Reception is acceptable. Caller ID window is very small and the text font in it is incredibly small. After four months the speaker starting going in and out during every call. Sometimes the speaker would go out for a couple minutes at a time. Now I'm back buying another phone, not GE this time.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
We have had this crappy phone for one year. and its like we had it for 6 years. it won't dial the correct number, it makes loud funny noises, you have to press the key pad very hard to dial, and it doesn't last as long off charge like they say...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Purchase
I am very happy with my purchase. The best part about the phone is the headset. The quality of the headset is very good. I also like the message-waiting feature. The phone will blink when you have a new message on your voicemail. I would definitely recommend this phone to anyone.

3-0 out of 5 stars GE 26930GE1 - looks nice but sound quality poor
Perhaps I need to avoid phones with volume controls... But at the lowest level the quality is good but not loud enough. As the volume is increased the background noise begins to be annoying. Strange how I replaced an old phone that just fell apart with the latest and greatest to be so disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone for the price!
I bought this phone a few years ago and it has been a great phone. I have very few complaints with this phone. The thing I don't like it the fact that it likes to make a lot of noices when you delete names from the caller i.d. I guess I have had this phone for about two years but it's time to get another one... we have dropped it on the garage floor too many times...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Phone
My family got this phone about a year ago, and it hasn't given us any technical problems. The range is good. It's upstairs and I've used it outside by the garage. It's clear most of the time, and the caller ID is a great plus. Overall, a good phone.

1-0 out of 5 stars battery life is a joke
I don't think the battery can last beyond a day. My AT&T phone can last up to a week. Other than the unsatisfactory battery life, the phone is fine.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst cordless I've bought.
Very poor range, works only within a single room. When I move to the next room, where any other cordless I've owned works ok, this one doesn't. A waste of money. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great basic phone
I've owned this phone for two years now and have been very impressed with it's call quality. The incoming sound is great - just about like a corded phone. The phone is static free in my two bedroom apartment. The keys have a nice solid feel and the handset has a nice weight to it (feels comfortable for long calls). I've changed the battery once (it does need charging every other day). It does have one weird problem. Sometimes it doesn't ring on the first ring. I highly recommend it for a cheap basic phone. ... I know it's discontinued, but it's still widely available on the internet new.

1-0 out of 5 stars Does not hold up
I have had this phone for about six months, and although the reception is fine, the buttons don't work well anymore. Sometimes when I press a number, nothing happens. Sometimes pressing once makes it dial twice. I hope they let me return it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good phone at a good price
I've had this phone for about eight months and have had no problems so far. Reception is fine a good distance away from the base; I can go down to the mailbox or the laundry room or the parking lot of my apartment and still be able to talk. Battery life is good--basically, this is a fine phone at a fine price. It's not fancy, but who needs fancy? If you want a good, basic, cordless phone, you could do much worse than this.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good phone for the price
I do not know what this other person is talking about, I have one of these in my apartment and with all the wireless networks and other phones it still works great!

4-0 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise!
When I saw this little webcam on a discount store's top shelf, I was a both intrigued and skeptical. The price was right, but I had picked up PC devices based on price alone before and been burned, badly. The specs looked good and included XP as a compatible OS. I liked it's diminuitive size and its colorful design. I thought, as I usually do, why not?

It was a snap to install and configure. My system has XP Pro. I already had microphone-equipped headphones for gaming and video-conferencing, so I didn't set up the internal microphone in the GE EasyCam Pro. The two applications bundled by ArcSoft aren't bad. VideoImpression by ArcSoft allows you to cut and paste video clips and add transitions just like a miniature version of MovieMaker 2. The snapshots I took with the other program are sharper than the ones I have taken with with my other PC Camera, the Intel PC Camera Deluxe.

The first thing I noticed was the clarity of the video. I have been using the Intel camera for about a year, but the little GE camera has a sharper image with better color. The drop-out rate is better also. You can actually see your hand as you wave instead of a choppy blur.

I haven't found ONE reasonably-priced PC camera that works well in low light. This one is no different. In fact, in that regard, it requires a bit more light than my Intel PC Camera Deluxe. But why try to use a camera in the dark? I guess if you are trying to use it as a security camera, the lux problem could be considered an issue. Otherwise, turn on the light.

I've set it up with XP's Windows Messenger and can't wait to get the reaction from my brother when he makes his weekly Internet call. I'm betting he'll want one too.

3-0 out of 5 stars Build-in MIC
I can not make the build-in MIC work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome
all i have to say is this, for 30 bucks this webcam exceeds my expectations. i didn't expect it to be all that, but it is. the video quality is awesome, and just the fact that it has a microphone is cool too. when u change the flash speed to 30 frames per seconds the video is life-like. you wouldn't believe it until you've bought it. for people who don't want to spend a lot of money on a webcam but still want one with excellent quality the GE PC Camera Pro is the camera for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Monkey
This is a great cam i am 13 and i am good at complaining trust me so if i could i would complain but this is perfect i mean if your computer is slow all ready don't worry this cam has no efect. + this cam has great vedio my old cam was so slow that if u waved at it you looked like a robot but this cam shows every thing in real life speed and i really like its mic. it is clear and never skips what u are saying if u are looking for a web cam or just cam u MUST GET THIS ONE!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Imagery
I have owned and i have seen alot of PC Cams and they have been what i thought was excellent exposure, but i am here to tell you that the GE PC Camera is by for the best that i have ever seen. When i turn the cam on, the action and movement on screen is so real and the sharpness is also fantastic, i highly recommend that if your looking for a PC Cam, this is the one. 2-0 out of 5 stars GE 27930GE3 2.4 GHz Cordless Telephone
I bought this phone at Office Max for the same price as Amazon ($$$). The price was good and the phone felt good in the hand. I liked the antenna lighting up - it gave a visula indication that it was working, but I wonder how much extra battery-time it sucks up. The clarity was good as long as you were near the base. BUT, the volume was too low, even at the highest setting. I kept having to ask my caller to repeat what they said. I also did my usual test of going outside and seeing how far away I could go before the signal became noisy. I barely got out the door before I got all this crackling and static. The range was no where near my two other 900 MHZ phones. Back to the store for a refund with this unit. Bottom Line: Nice features, nice price, poor performance.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so good
I've had this phone for almost a year. It was working fine but lately the number keys do not work. So I now have to replace it.

2-0 out of 5 stars won't last
This phone was decent for about 10-12 months, then it started having all sorts of problems and now I'm looking for a new phone. It gets 2 stars b/c I really did like the features. Good display, decent looking. A bit bulky, but well placed buttons. They just need to work on the quality, I can't afford to buy a new phone every year.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great phone for the price
This has been (after one month) a great phone ... It's clear, has good range, and the memory and caller id are easy to use. My only gripe is that there's no way to tell if your line is active by looking at the phone. This is important to me since I have to use a dial-up internet connection. Other than that, I highly recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars no directions in English
I got this phone second hand and it seems to be great, however the person i bought it from doesn't have the instructions in English any longer.. can someone share them with me please.. I don't know how to save info or how to change rings and things like that.. thank you ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Hello? Hello?
After taking this phone out of the package I was immediately impressed. It was user friendly and a pretty major upgrade from what I was using before as the answering machine and caller ID were features I needed in one model. The answering machine has very poor sound quality, but I thought "Hey, who cares about the answering machine".

Before I knew it I realized the phone did too. I changed channels, moved the base, walked around...but nothing helped. While you could turn the volume up, it sounded as if the person on the other end was holding a towel over the receiver. Not only that but when I talked there was a static echo. Sure I could get used to it, but it irritated me so much because my other cordless phone was clear as a bell....that I decided to take it back for a refund. The features were great, it's too bad the sound quality sucks. They should allow you to test models in the store before getting home.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Phone
I got this phone about 2 months ago and I was a little skeptical if it will work at all after reading some of the reviews here at Amazon. But I must say I feel pretty satisfied with my purchase. The phone works great; I have no problems with voice quality or anything for that matter. It has nice ringer features though it lacks ringer volume control, which would be nice to have. Overall it is a nicely featured phone for the price and if you don't want to spend $100 for caller id and answering machine go for it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice features for a moderately cheap phone
In a recent review, Consumer Reports listed this phone as the best among tested phone + answering machine combos. So far, it works well. The ability to check messages from the handset without remembering an obscure button combination is nice, but for some reason GE (or more accurately, Atlinks--the actual manufacturer), doesn't think that you would want to listen to the newest messages first. So, if you're in the habit of saving messages, you'll have to skip through the ones that you've already heard to get to the new messages. This wouldn't be so bad, but the machine doesn't appear to tell you how many "new" messages you have. You may be listening to the first couple seconds of every one. There is no date stamp, either--just day of week and time.

The phone has the following positive aspects. The sound quality is fine, but you get some echo if you turn the volume to max. The range is fairly standard, but there is less static at the outskirts than the last phone I owned. The handset is comfortable, and I don't find my cheek pressing buttons when the phone's balanced on my shoulder. Although you can only store 10 speed-dial numbers, the ability to record a description with the numbers means that you don't have to remember which button leads where. Messages are stored in flash memory even during a power outage, but there is no backup battery support that allows the phone to work in such conditions. I don't have Caller ID, but the phone supposedly supports call-waiting Caller ID.

Drawbacks include an NiCd battery as opposed to the more environmentally friendly NiMh; analog transmission, which is less secure (but cheaper) than digital or DSS; and lack of energy star compliance.

I would recommend this phone to anyone who doesn't save many messages on their answering machine as cycling through more than a few at a time would be maddening. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Mine didn't work
I own several GE small appliances, including a couple of other GE phones, and have generally been happy with them. This seemed to be a good idea (a phone and digital answering machine in a single small unit), but mine does not work. The telephone works, and callers can leave messages. But the unit won't record a new greeting, and the remote message access features (which are supposed to let you listen to your messages or operate the unit from a touch-tone phone) do not work at all. I returned mine for a ConairPhone "call keeper," which has similar features. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible!
I bought this player for class, and it worked fine for the first two months. Then it just started acting up on me. At first I thought it was the batteries, but then I changed them and the thing still doesn't work. It can rewind and ff fine, but forget playing or recording...it only works for two seconds!

1-0 out of 5 stars Where is it????????
Can't review it till I get it! Ordered on the 18th. supposed to ship in 24hrs??? won't be here till the 1st????? Maybe next time I will shop in person.........

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good little recorder
I have to say, I'm pretty impressed with this recorder. It comes with an external mic, but I think the internal one works great. Not only can you select "high" and "low" for recording levels, but you can fine-tune the recording level with the volume control, so you won't get that annoying buzz when there's not enough sound or too much sound for the microphone. Plus, you can plug in a set of headphones while it's recording, and listen to exactly what's being picked up by the mic.
The only (slight) bummer is that this recorder does NOT have auto-reverse. Luckily, not much noise is created by ejecting and flipping the tape, so you won't disturb anyone during a lecture if you have to do so.
You can record at 1/2 speed (to conserve tape), play at normal or 125% speed (to skip through to the part you really need to hear), and cue forward or reverse. It has a built-in tape counter (great for matching up your notes to the tape), Auto Voice Record (which I'll probably never use, because it clips the first second or so of noise), and a Record/Battery LED that dims when it's time to replace the batteries. Runs on 2 AA batteries (included), which are far easier to find (and cheaper to buy) than AAA batteries. Also comes with 2 60-min tapes. ... Read more
