Amazon.com Product Description The recorder offers timer recording (record once, daily, or weekly), as well as disc editing features such as title editing, title deletion (on DVD+RW discs), title overwriting (on DVD+RW discs), and content protection. The AR-230 is also a first-rate DVD player, featuring progressive-scan video outputs, Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound passthrough, MP3 CD playback (CD-R/-RW), and playback compatibility with most DVD media (including video-mode DVD-R and DVD-RW). You can load a disc full of JPEG images for a digital slideshow in the comfort of your living room. Whether you already own an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the AR-230 stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a playback picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts. A single set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (one each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. The higher priced digital recorders have hard drives built in to give them Tivo features like the ability to record temporarily for many hours, watch a program from the beginning while the unit is still recording the end, instant replay, pause live TV, etc. The fully loaded recorders also have some sort of Tivo-like program guide. The AR-230 has none of these things, but it costs a lot less as well. It's an interesting mix of high and low end VCR features plus an adequate DVD+R/RW recorder. The high end is reflected by the number of different inputs and outputs: Composite, S-Video, Component, Firewire, Coax and Optical audio. The low end is reflected by the timer: Only 5 programs, no Mon-Fri mode, no VCR+. As a simple DVD replacement for a VCR, it fulfills it's function very well. The remote is easy to use. The quality of the DVD image is equal to the quality of the video input. It won't allow you to create you're own chapters, but you can set it to automatically create chapters every 1 - 12 minutes. There are 4 program modes: 1hr, 2hrs, 4hrs & 6hrs. I've tried the 2 and 4 hour modes and both are fine. Choosing from titles on the disc is much easier than scanning a VCR tape for the start of a new program. Also scanning by chapter and fast forward/reverse work very well - a big improvement over tape. The AR-230 records only on "Plus" media, but reads/plays just about everything. BEWARE: The DVD recordable industry is borderline insane. They're locked in a betamax/vhs type war of competing incompatible formats called "Plus" and "Minus". Not only are there different recorders that record each format, but the blank media are different for each format. A "Minus" disc won't work in a "Plus" recorder. If you've got a set top DVD player you may want to check which format it supports. If your DVD player only plays "Minus" discs it won't be able to play DVD's you produce from the AR-230.
1. Check your DVD media (at least 4x and should be +R/RW). PROS: CONS:

Amazon.com Review So what about video? The DVS20 does okay, though it would be better to think of video as a bonus function rather than its main purpose. It performs middling to poor in low-light conditions, but in daylight it takes pretty clear, if somewhat herky-jerky footage. A memory card is a must if you want to do any significant amount of taping--the size of the internal memory is actually pretty generous at 64 MB, but this will hold a maximum of 18 minutes of video, and that's at the lowest resolution (a very grainy 320 x 240). It's worth noting that the mic performs much better I expected. I was able to tape a public event, getting very clear audio for both the PA and the ambient crowd noise. One real downside is the rate at which this thing eats through batteries--one day of sporadic use was all that a pair of alkalines lasted me. Do not proceed without rechargeables! And while we're talking downsides, I should also mention that the flash tends to wash out facial features at distances under ten feet. Overall, though, you'd be hard put to find a better value in this price range. --David Stoesz Pros Features Reviews (16)
I am a television video producer; I edit video for a living. I am always updating my "goings on" via my moblog and the DV-S20 Multi-Cam continues to be perfect for taking video of an event and quickly uploading the video onto the web. The small camera's appealing design (about the size of a deck of cards, only a little thicker) attracts attention whenever I use it. Even my peers in the "television world" take note. I carry it around with me everywhere I go because it is so small and at such a low price I am not afraid that something may happen to it. The camera can be held and controlled with one hand. The A/V out is great for watching the photos and videos on TV or recording to VCR, if that is your type of thing. I would suggest getting an SD media card for heavy use. The stock 64mb memory has plenty of room for photos, but video will quickly eat up that space. Having separated "video record" and "photo" buttons makes it nice to take a mix of video and photos on the fly. Sound quality is about par with the average consumer camcorder. I want to make it clear, the Multi-Cam is a toy. If you are looking to replace even the lowest end camcorder, you will be VERY unhappy with this product. Don't use it to document "Babies first steps" or "Julie's Second Wedding". The DV-S20 Multi-Cam is not made for these events... the price should clue you into that! The DV-S20 Multi-Cam is made for Bloggers, Young people just getting interested in video production, and the "Gadget Freak" that loves to show off. I love my Multi-Cam, I use it everyday. It fits my mobile technology life and I recommend it. PRO: Cheap price for a well made product, small package, attracts attention, fast and easy uploading to the computer, easy memory upgrade. Very easy to learn and operate. Quality consumer software included. CONS: Lackluster video quality if used for TV viewing, .asf files do not agree with some computers and editing programs. No zoom in photo mode, 2.5x digital zoom in video mode. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description Kitchens, bedrooms, offices, or dormitories will be equally well served by the set, which features a built-in carrying handle for easy transport. An included table stand simplifies desk- or table-top positioning. LCDs are more power-efficient than either CRTs or plasma screens. While they may not be as bright, overall, as plasmas, they get more wallet-friendly every month. You'll see none of the irritating scan lines or flickering that's visible on CRT sets or monitors, and you can forget about both ghosting and image burn-in, no matter how many hours a week you spend parked in front of your favorite video game. This Gateway television is no slouch in the specs department, offering an impressive 600:1 contrast ratio, high (423 cd/m2) brightness, and a wide, 170-degree viewing angle. Stereo speakers with 2.7 watts per channel offer strong, clear sound, and you can always plug a pair of headphones into the set's headphone jack for more private (or just louder) listening. Battery life is another story. It does not hold any battery even Ni-MH. Costumer service is not satisfactory. They deliberately does not discuss the quality. All they talk is "policy". I wonder "is there a policy about sending inferior product and labeling it 4 megapixel".

Amazon.com Product Description A plasma screen consists of two thin sheets of glass containing tiny, gas-filled cells. Electronic current stimulates the cells to produce light and color, creating a bright, steady, vivid pictures. You also get extremely wide viewing angles (160 degrees with this set), and easy placement due to the TV's slim profile--this Gateway set is a mere 3.9 inches deep, perfect for desk or wall mounting (a table stand is supplied, and the set is compatible with most mounting hardware). Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to the picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed near lighting or sound systems. Built-in digital scaling engine accepts various computer and HDTV signals, then digitally maps the signals to fit within the screen's 1,366 x 768 pixels. Compatible signals include computer display resolutions up to 1,280 x 1,024 and all HDTV signals, including 720p and 1080i. Gateway even offers advanced digital image processing, which converts all interlaced (composite-video, S-video) signals to progressive-scanned images for bright, flicker-free viewing. A built-in digital visual interface (DVI) jack eliminates the need for analog-to-digital conversion between your DTV set-top box or computer. PIP (picture-in-picture) gives you the option of watching TV and one non-PC, non-HD input source simultaneously. You can view with one image inset, or with two images side by side (picture-by-picture)--and you can swap images at the touch of a button. A choice of digital zoom modes lets you fill the screen to eliminate letterbox bars on 4:3 (or other) aspect-ratio content, and picture freeze ensures you don't miss any details. Stereo speakers with five watts per channel offer strong, clear sound. Bass, treble, BBE Sound maximizer, and audio balance controls let you tailor the set's sound output, while, for more spacious-sounding programs, SRS sound processing simulates surround sound through any two speakers. A stereo minijack (.125-inch) output facilitates hookup with optional external computer speakers, and a monaural RCA output lets you use an optional subwoofer to enhance the low-frequency response of your listening system. There's a stereo (left/right) RCA output with internally selectable fixed or variable level for routing the TV's sound to an integrated amplifier or surround receiver. With its versatile power supply (AC 100 to 240 volts, 50 or 60 Hz, 4.5 amps), the 50-inch set is equally at home in many countries. What's in the Box Features

The camera comes with a 32MB card, which means when you have it set to the full 5-megapixels you can take about 12 pictures. But unless you're planning to enlarge photos a great deal or want to zoom in on things in detail after taking the photo, 3-megapixels is sufficient, and for that the card holds about 36 photos. Of course, the whole point of a digital camera is be able to take as many pictures as you like without the worry of wasting film, so I bought a 256 MB card: 200 photos at 3mp ought to keep me happy. The lay-out is pretty standard: Zoom lens that closes up behind a shutter when the camera is off, digital display window on the back to see what you're taking and what you've taken, a four-direction set of buttons to navigate the menus (good thing I practiced those controls playing Sega and Nintendo growing up) little wheel around the picture-taking button on the top right to select the mode, a zoom button and a separate power button. I found that when using the viewer to line up the shot the image was often very grainy and difficult to see, particularly in extreme lighting, but once you take the photo, the display quality is much better. Like with most cameras, the photo you've just taken is shown in the display for a few seconds, and you can turn the dial and look back at all the photos you've taken. You can also delete that one that makes you look like you have an extra chin right away, before anyone else sees it. All this viewing used to drain the battery of early digital camera models, but I've yet to run out of battery life, so no complaints on that, and the battery is rechargable. The dial on the top has separate modes for regular, night, action and portrait (which blurs the background) shots. The display window shows battery life, flash/no flash, number of pictures you can still take, zoom level, picture quality setting and auto focus on/off. You can also take a brief movie (we're talking a few minutes max, depending the size of your memory card, but still a nice feature). I actually received this camera the day of a friend's wedding, so it got a test immediately. Having charged it over night, I couldn't wait to start snapping. Overall I got some nice shots once I got the hang of it. My only complaints are that it often took too long to auto focus. So, the bride is coming down the aisle, I line up the perfect shot, push the button, whirr, focus adjust and click--another lovely shot of the back of someone's head. There's also an auto off feature, which is great to save battery power, but when you want your camera at the ready for longer than a minute, it's annoying to have to keep turning it back on. My second test-run was a day at the Bronx Zoo. Now I had the hang of it, and I got some really impressive shots. I could zoom right in for a close-up of a gorilla's hand when it was sitting on the other side of the Plexiglas window so you could see every detail of her fingernails. Or get a nice shot of those flamingos on the little island far away, or right up-close and personal with a Siberian tiger's face. Accessories include PhotoSuite software to view and alter your photos on your computer, a USB cable to connect the camera to the computer, an AV cable to recharge the battery, LI Li-ion rechargeable battery and a 32MP card (as mentioned). This is a very good price for a 5-megapixel camera, and as one of the first that Gateway has produced, I think they've got a very competitive product. I'm certainly satisfied.
There are some exceptional features on this little camera such as a sturdy and attractive metal casing, easy to use controls, a multitude of settings which allow you to choose aperture or shutter speed preferences, portrait mode which blurs the background and includes a red eye reduction flash feature, a choice of focal distances including a macro lens feature, movie clips with sound, 3x optical zoom (I reccommend using only optical zoom with a digital camera)and many more. The battery is rechargeable directly in the camera and it stays charged for a long time. There is also a battery life meter as well as an indicator of space available on the sd card. There are some problems as well. The red eye reduction though helpful is not perfect. This is a problem that exists with all small digital cameras and can be fixed on your computer. The time between pressing the shutter release button and getting an image is long especially with a 512MB card. This may account for the blurred pictures that some people have commented about. You MUST hold still until the picture appears on your monitor or your motion will blur the image. (Try keeping your elbows in at your side for more stability.) Another reason for blurred images might be choosing the wrong focus. If you are set in macro mode and snapping a distant object it will appear blurred and vice versa for close objects and long distance settings. The flash is not extremely powerful but works as well as any other small digital I've used, and I've used many. This is not a strong suit of compact digital cameras. Overall this is a great value for the price and the photos you get will be as good as or better than any point and shoot film camera you now own. The advantage will be that you can view them immediately, email to friends, and print photos yourself using a photo printer and your computer. No more waiting for the photomat to do its job. Be aware that you should bring along an extra card and an extra battery if you want to be assured of uninterrupted use of any digital camera. Since these items are reuseable indefinitely they are worth the investment.
"If you did not purchase the item from Gateway, please contact the manufacturer for further assistance. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. First of all I did format the SD card, and if it needed reformating when a computer was not around to download the pics to, they would all be erased. And second The name on the camera is Gateway. Amazon.com Product Description Gateway's connected DVD player merges plug-and-play networking capabilities with the latest in home-theater technology so you can stream your music, photo, and video files from a Windows-based PC in the study right to your living-room entertainment system. The progressive-scan-capable player is fully compatible with DVD-Video, CD, VCD/SVCD, Kodak Picture CD, and recordable discs full of JPEG, MP3, or WMA (Windows Media Audio) files, so you can still enjoy its authoritative features even if you're not inclined to use the networking feature just yet. Far more convenient but a little more complicated to configure is a wireless setup, which lets you place your hardware in separate rooms without need for lengthy cable runs. This option requires the additional purchase of a wireless networking device (a router if you'll have multiple network users or an access point for a single connection) to relay data between your PC and the DVD player's card. Once you've established your network, you can put a connected DVD player in every room with a TV or stereo to connect wirelessly to your PC library. In your PC, you can then create a library of music, photo, and digital video to enjoy anywhere you have a connected DVD player and a television and/or audio system. Front-panel menu buttons grant full operation, even without the supplied remote control. The player lets you import M3U (MusicMatch) or the PLS (WinAmp) playlists and create custom digital slideshows of PC-based JPEG images. The player also supports playback of recorded video from MPEG4 video and Microsoft Media Center computers. If you're inclined to go in for a little karaoke entertainment, this player's got you covered: the stylish front panel also offers two .25-inch microphone inputs governed by single volume and echo-effect control. The ADC-320's digital-audio outputs enable connection to a full-featured A/V receiver so you can experience Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1-channel surround sound. Top-of-the-line component-video outputs (switchable between progressive and interlaced, depending on your television) help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring compatibility with nearly any television. Amazon Product Description
The supplied LN-520 audio/video receiver includes a 6-channel amplifier capable of delivering 100 full-bandwidth watts per channel in stereo (to 8-ohm speakers) and nearly that much in full surround mode. It processes the latest discrete multichannel surround formats, including the 6.1-channel DTS-ES and Matrix, DTS Neo:6, and Dolby Digital EX 6.1. It will process any stereo program into 5.1-channel sound using Dolby Pro Logic II, and the receiver's rear panel even offers direct 6.1-channel inputs for use with an external surround decoder, such as those found in high-resolution multichannel SACD and DVD-Audio players.
To take advantage of the center speaker's Ventriloquist ability, wire the front left/right satellites inline with the center speaker as shown in the detailed manual and flip the "Ventriloquist" switch, whereupon the front satellites will effectively sound like much larger bookshelf speakers. With the Ventriloquist circuit switched off, the front satellites perform as the standard 2.5-inch speakers they are. The metal bracket supplied with each satellite may be removed to accommodate an aftermarket swivel-type mount (the satellites accommodate a number of mounts, including both the Omnimount 10 series and the Sound Gear SATP series mounts). When I first received it, I took about 10 pictures. 8 of them were very grainy/blurry. From a 5MP camera, that's ridiculous. I assumed (fallaciously) that I simply was not using the camera correctly. My attempt to learn to use the camera 'properly' is what caused my delay in returning it, and forced me to sell it on eBay for significantly less than I paid for it. Don't buy this camera.
Issues: 1. Horrible lag from the moment you push the button to actual shutter movement. 2. The camera's body and telescoping lense feel CHEAP and poorly fitted. 3. I'm having memory card issues/errors that I haven't been able to solve yet. Save your money and get a recognized brand.
Its now time to sell the Gateway and move to a Sony where you can find true quality in the product and the picture. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description Picture-in-picture (PIP) lets you watch two programs simultaneously with one image inset in one of six selectable window positions. Picture-on-picture (POP) lets you watch two programs side by side, each with its own (roughly) 35-inch diagonal image. PIP/POP is available when your main video source is set to any mode. For example, you can watch two analog TV programs simultaneously with PIP/POP by using the built-in TV tuners. And one of your two kids, for instance, can watch a movie from a DVD player or VCR in the main window while your other child watches a TV program--all at the same time. Additionally, the transparency and size of the PIP window are highly adjustable. The TV has two separate headphone jacks, both of which are accessible from the side of the TV. One of these outputs can be assigned to the PIP or secondary side-by-side/POP window, making it possible for two people to use the TV for two totally different activities (e.g., one watches a DVD movie, the other plays a PC game). The set even includes a secondary PIP/POP remote control for this purpose. Unlike most TVs, this set's PIP source can include progressive-scan DVD inputs and HDTV signals through the component-video inputs. And, the PIP source can be displayed using either 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios. DVI and VGA inputs from things such as a PC can only be displayed in the main window. Gateway provides a broad range of inputs with independent picture settings, including two component-video inputs, one DVI interface with HDCP copy-protection compatibility, three sets of audio/video inputs that support composite- and S-video (one of which is side-mounted for easy access), and two separate RGB inputs for a PC (with accompanying minijack stereo audio inputs). The side-panel inputs are perfect for occasional hookups such as a camcorder or video-game console. Stereo speakers with an impressive 15 watts per channel offer strong, clear sound. Bass, treble, BBE High Definition Sound, and audio balance controls let you tailor the set's sound output, while, for more spacious-sounding programs, both SRS and VivaHD3D sound processing simulate surround sound through any two speakers. There's a stereo RCA output with internally selectable fixed or variable level for routing the TV's sound to an integrated amplifier or surround receiver. The TV supports Microsoft's Media Center PC specification. What's in the Box Features Reviews (1)
