Amazon.com Product Description

The MapSource MetroGuide U.S.A. CD-ROM contains the electronic equivalent of several paper maps and represents the same information found on MetroGuide cartridges. MetroGuide U.S.A. includes trip and waypoint management functions that allow you to transfer waypoints, routes, and tracks between your PC and nearly all Garmin GPS units while viewing detailed maps on your PC screen.

With a map-download-compatible Garmin GPS, MetroGuide U.S.A. allows you to load map detail, addresses, business listings, and points of interest from any region in the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii. You can transfer MetroGuide U.S.A. data from a personal computer to your GPS unit or to a blank or preprogrammed data cartridge (compatible with StreetPilot III).

You'll see details such as the locations of restaurants, banks, gas stations, and tourist attractions, plus much more. In addition, you can use your GPS to look up street addresses and points of interest, then navigate to them with the help of onscreen arrows and street-level detail. You'll be able to drive to any city address in the large database using an electronic map that shows street-level detail.

Note on compatibility: The trip and waypoint management functions of this product work with nearly all Garmin GPS units, excluding the GPS 100 family and panel-mount aviation units. Specifically, the map download features of this product work with the eTrex Legend, eTrex Vista, eMap, GPS V, StreetPilot, StreetPilot ColorMap, StreetPilot III, and GPSMAP 76, 176, 182, 188, 232, 238, 295, 2006, and 2010. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Don't go for a holiday without this!
I'm using this with a Garmin eTrex Vista. Been quite useful so far, especially just to keep track of where you are (just about every road, big and small, in the US is in the map) or when you're in a new place and you just want to find the closest Italian restaurant with the GPS of yours. (Of course it probably only works with selected Garmin GPSs)

Maps in this CD are about 2 or 3 years old so some new roads will probably be missing. Each city map takes about 7Mb and with the eTrex's serial connection to the PC, it takes ages to upload.

Once you finally get over the uploading time, its a bliss. Like you're in control of everything.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best maps for Garmin GPS
Note that although v5 is now out, it's really more of a map data vendor change than an "update". The interface is identical, and much of the map data is, too. The main differences will be in Alaska and Hawaii. You can use the map viewer at Garmin's web site to check out what the v5 maps look like.

Also, MetroGuide v5 can only be used to create routes on a PC. You cannot use its maps to create routes on a StreetPilot or other GPS that does its own routes. You can use the City Select CDs to do this.

Finally, if you're wondering what the difference between this and Roads & Recreation, that is intended for older and low memory (1MB or less) units. If you have 8MB or more, get MetroGuide.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stop! Get the new version five!
Version five is out, just ordered and got version four -- ouch!

2-0 out of 5 stars It'd be nice if the maps were updated in the near future.
I got this for my eTrex Legend. Like the other reviewers have said, the maps are pretty badly out of date. If you're in a relatively new area, don't expect this CD to have any streets listed.

If you are navigating in an established area that's been around for more than three or four years, you'll find the maps to be pretty helpful. They are very detailed, and I've found that even if a restaurant isn't properly located on the map, the marker is usually within walking distance of where it should be. Note though, that because this map data is rapidly aging, a lot of these restaurants have gone out of business and no longer exist.

I live in Los Angeles, and the area is so big that Garmin split it up into two maps on this CD. One covers just about everything west of the 710 freeway, and another covers everything from the 710 east out to Palm Desert and Orange County. The problem is that these two maps are like 7 megs EACH.

If you live in the Los Angeles area and require full coverage, the 8 MB of the eTrex Legend just isn't enough to hold it all at once. That's not a big deal for me, but it would have been nice to know that beforehand.

If you have a need for coverage of the entire LA/OC area, you'd be much better off with an eTrex Vista which has 24 megs of memory (and costs more than twice as much as the Legend!)

3-0 out of 5 stars Works Great on My Garmin
Much has been written in these Amazon.com reviews about the problems with this product. And, I find it hard to disagree with much of what has been said. However, when I load it into my GPS Map 76S it is a beautiful thing. It looks better on the GPS than on the computer. I also like the ability to build, and save, routes on my computer and then load them in the GPS as needed. It is much easier to use a full computer screen and a mouse to click the waypoints, rather than using the much smaller GPS screen and controls. Probably my biggest gripe is the pre-defined areas that can be loaded to the GPS. One corner of New York City is on the New Jersey map. So to get the as small part of the western side of the Island of Matthatten, you have to use valuable memory loading the top half of New Jersey. MapSource is not as nice a map as my DeLorme, which I use all the time on my computer. However, this is the only game in town for use with the Garmin GPS. If you want a map to use on your computer get DeLorme or the Microsoft product, both of which are cheaper that MapSource. If you have a Garmin GPS this is a product, despite some flaws, does work very well. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Designed and Overpriced
This is a leather slipcase with elastic sides so you slide your iQue into it from the top. You pretty much have to jam it in to get it all the way in so it's difficult to insert or retrieve your iQue. And you must remove it from the case to use or charge it. It's so poorly designed that it's hard not to push the power button or side record button when putting it in or getting it out. And at $19 it is way overpriced, even at half that price it wouldn't be worth it. The iQue is a great device and deserves a better designed and more functional case. Don't buy this one or you'll return it like me.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's An Open Top Slipcase
It's not what I thought it would be. It does not have a belt clip. Nor is it fully enclosed. It has a nice quality cover for the front and back. The sides are elastic so that it expands when you slide the unit in. Consequently, the top is exposed. I also discovered a tendency to press the record button when pulling the unit out. However, I have not had that problem ever since I started inserting the unit top first leaving the bottom exposed instead. Also this protects the media card from being ejected by accident. The case does the job of protecting the Garmin from scratches. Fits in a pocket nicely.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent if you know what you're ordering
I ordered the Garmin slipcase with some trepidation after reading the negative review here. It is indeed a slipcase, but what I was looking for was a case that offers protection without bulk, and this fills the bill. All the other generic cases I've seen are bulkier than this one.

The case is well-made with a good quality padded leather front and back. The sides are elastic to allow a snug fit for the slightly wedge-shaped iQue. I haven't had any problems with removing the iQue without pressing the record button--it just requires a bit more care. It would also have been nice to have a flap to close over the top of the case. The open top leaves the card slot exposed. But overall I'm very pleased with the compactness and quality of this case.

Amazon.com Product Description

Download detailed, street-level maps to a Garmin data card in seconds with this USB data card programmer. To use the programmer, you need a blank Garmin data card, which come in sizes ranging from 8 MB to 128 MB. To view the data you need a Garmin GPS handheld with a data-card slot. Compatible models include the Garmin StreetPilot, ColorMap, eMap, and GPSMAP 295.

With the USB data card programmer, you can download map information from a MapSource CD-ROM to your computer, then from your computer to the data card. The programmer is powered by the USB cable and downloads at speeds up to 1.5 MB per second. To use the programmer, you need a PC with a Pentium processor with 16 MB RAM, a CD-ROM drive, Windows 98 or 2000 (Windows 95 and NT not supported), and an available USB port.

To use the programmer, first plug the USB connector at the end of the cable to either one of your computer's USB ports. The programmer is hot-pluggable, so you don't need to turn off your computer during installation. Next, install the device drivers on your hard drive from the included CD-ROM. Then download map data onto your hard drive from a MapSource CD-ROM. Insert a blank data card into the programmer and transfer the data. Then plug the data card into your GPS unit for an in-depth map of a specific area.

The data card programmer comes with a 6-foot USB cable, software on CD-ROM and a one-year warranty. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Garmin USB Data card programmer
It would be impracticale to buy a memory card larger than 32 meg without buying this product. I had the 32 meg memory card, and it took about 8 hours to load the maps in using a serial connection (cut the battery life in half while flashing). Now I flash a 128 meg card with the usb programmer, and the total time to load ~127 megs of maps (including indexing time) is about 13 minutes. This was on a 400 MHz Windows 2000 computer. If you have a faster computer, it may be able to index the maps faster. I highly recommend this product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy, efficient, and speedy!
From 22 minutes to 22 seconds! That's the difference between loading one region from my MetroGuide CD to an 8mb data card using this programmer instead of using the serial cable. It took slightly less than 4 minutes to load a 61.4mb file (9 maps) to my 64mb card. That included building the map set, erasing the former map set, transferring the files, and then verifying the files. This same transfer took over two hours in the past. If you are in no rush and you don't change areas much, obviously the programmer is not necessary. You may even choose to get a larger data card for your needs. But if you travel to different places and rent a car, or you plan to make a long trip, save your time and batteries and invest in this programmer.

I run it on Windows XP. Initially it did not work, but a trip to Garmin's website enabled me to download the latest drivers. No problems thereafter.

4-0 out of 5 stars USB Data Card Programmer
I really liked the Data Card Programmer on my old operating software Windows 98 & ME. It is very fast and a must if you don't want to burn up batteries when downloading maps. However I have not been able to make it work with my XP software. I have even downloaded the new USB drivers from the Garmin Web site (v 2.5.0.0). The first time I used it, (USB driver version 2.3) my 32Mb card was destroyed only 720Kb was left useable. While Garmin replaced the card and put out a new set of USB drivers (9/19/02), I still cannot get it to work with XP at least it no longer destroys the card. When they get the drivers fixed this is an item to buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Talk about a time saver
Uploading and downloading info to your Garmin GPS using the serial data link may not take that much time if you only use the smaller data cards. However, when you start getting up to the 32 or 64 MB range, the time it takes to use the regular serial link is ridiculous. It took about 10 minutes to fill up my 8mb card using the normal link to my eMap. Not really a big deal. However, when I got a 32MB card, it took over an hour to fill up my cross country trip details. For my next trip, I picked up the USB programmer. I tested it with my 8MB card and a few routes. On the serial link it took about 6 minutes. The USB was done in about 15 seconds. I thought it wasn't working, so after a few minutes of trouble shooting, I realized that not only was it working correctly, but it was working very fast. Very nice.
Note: The 32Mb card took a little over 2 minutes to completely fill. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for a second vehicle
My StreetPilot III came with one of these, which I mounted in my main vehicle, and I then purchased a beanbag mount for my other vehicle and for rental cars. While the beanbag mount does work well, it is no substitute for the "real thing." This dash mount is a great item that allows the unit to be rotated (360 degrees if you want) then easily locked into place. The permanent mounting disk is truly permanent, and the temp disk works great to try it in a position for a while to make sure it works well there. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Garmin's exclusive line of BlueChart marine cartography products is designed to provide interactive viewing of detailed nautical chart data. These detailed electronic nautical charts look just like paper charts when displayed on your Garmin chart plotter. Descriptive details for features typically found on nautical charts can easily be viewed with a simple key press. Cursor movements over the chart provide descriptions for contour depths, chart number, navaid name, and much more.

BlueChart data includes shaded depth contours, intertidal zones, spot soundings, wrecks, navaids, port plans, restricted areas, cable areas, anchorages, and more. Additionally, BlueCharts include information from the paper chart used in the digitization process, such as chart number, name, scale, revision date, and Notice-to-Mariners date.

Three MapSource BlueChart CD-ROMs are available: Americas, Atlantic, and Pacific. The Americas CD-ROM covers both North and South America. One CD-ROM contains BlueChart data for an entire region. MapSource BlueChart is a Microsoft Windows-based program that uses Garmin Unlock technology, allowing you to use one coverage area from the CD-ROM when initially purchased and to purchase additional coverage areas. Internet access is recommended for the unlock process.

Compatible products include these Garmin marine chart plotters: GPSMAP 176, GPSMAP 176C, GPSMAP 182, GPSMAP 188 Sounder, GPSMAP 232, GPSMAP 238 Sounder, GPSMAP 2006, and the GPSMAP 2010. 3-0 out of 5 stars Blue Chart Review
The description for this product, both on Amazon and from MapSource is a little mis-leading. The software is very easy to use and after getting through the unlock process (you need to have your GPS serial number), was easily downloaded to the GPS.
The Great Lakes contained detailed information, but there was no information for the in-land lakes. In order to view this info, you need to use your unlock code for a region of your choice. For instance, I downloaded the Lake Michigan region. However, I also needed information for Lake Gogebic in Michigan and this would cost me another [price] to get, even though this is the second largest lake in Michigan. Make sure you take a look at the regions you are interested in before buying. You can visit the Garman website for this. Then you can estimate how much it will cost and how valuable this information will be, before purchasing the software, which only allows one region to be unlocked.
