Amazon.com Product Description

Garmin MapSource North America Fishing Hot Spots provides fishing information, such as detailed shoreline, depth contours, and navigational aids, and recreational aids, like mile markers, boat ramps, and marinas. You also get extended fishing information, such as lake profiles, which list size, depth, and water source. Anglers will even find helpful hints on the best type of lure to use when catching a particular kind of fish or the best time of year to fish certain areas.

This map detail and data may be viewed on a PC and with data downloaded to select Garmin GPS receivers; however, extended fishing information is only available once it's been downloaded to the GPS.

MapSource Fishing Hot Spots provides coverage for select lakes throughout the United States. Select lakes are contained within determined regions, and a region must be unlocked before it can be used. Unlocking can be done through Garmin's Web site or by phone. With the purchase of MapSource Fishing Hot Spots, you will have access to one region area of your choice. For a complete listing of lakes and coverage areas, see www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/fhsReg.html.

Please note: The trip and waypoint management functions of this product work with nearly all Garmin GPS units, excluding the GPS100 family and panel mount aviation units. The map download features of this product will work only with the Garmin GPSMAP 162 and GPSMAP 168 Sounder. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars HIDDEN AGENDAS
This CD ROM is not what it appears to be. For the price, you get only a small region (the selection is at your disgression) of the U.S.. To get more, you have to purchase 'unlock' codes from the manufacturer or an authorized retailer. In addition, the detail is poor. A good set of road maps or U.S.G.S. topographical maps are better. I don't recommend this product.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful but lacking an awful lot...
The fact that "all of Canada" is packed onto one CD should set off warning bells right away. This cd is certainly required for anyone with one of Garmin's "MAP" GPS's but don't expect to get the same level of detail available for the US.

There is metro info available for several large cities and you can have full functionality for address lookup and points of interest; however, for everything smaller than Ottawa you are out of luck...

Road detail goes down to the level of paved county roads and in some areas dirt roads as well but this leaves an awful lot of detail that you simply won't have available. Waterways are also available but again, the level of shoreline detail leaves a lot to be desired for most activities such as canoeing.

Hopefully Garmin will partner with a few more map-making companies from Canada and get a lot better information. I suspect that a proper job will require many CD's for each province much like SoftMap.

The software on the disk (MapSource) is rather low-level as well. You have very limited ability to do anything in here and you have extremely limited options for exporting the data as well. I'd suggest spending a few dollars on GPS Utility which is far superior for actually using your mapping GPS as it was intended. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars It's okay at best
I can echo the problem with the buttons not fitting...I had to cut out the padding on the inside to get it to fit. After that, it's still hard to use with the case on: basic navigation is okay, but when you do lots of button presses you need to take it out of the case. I hear it causes a GPS to float, which could potentially be a good thing (knowing my clumsiness) and it does do a good job of protecting your GPS. Perhaps the Garmin brand case is better.

2-0 out of 5 stars Price is right - - Fit is wrong
After reading the earlier reviews, I ordered this anyway hoping it would fit my new etrex Vista. I should have thought twice as the holes in the Glove don't give you access to all of the buttons. The Vista has the 'Click Stick' in the front that does not have a cutout in the Body Glove and I'm afraid to make one. The power hole is too small and I can't turn the Vista on or off without an object to reach in the hole.

Sorry Amazon - This baby is coming back your way

3-0 out of 5 stars Case button holes problem
I found the Body Glove case very form fitting and nice looking, however I found the holes for the Etrex buttons to be too deep to comfortably use the buttons. I did return the item for this reason.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but needs modification
This is a great product, except the holes for the buttons didn't align, so I had to modify the holes on the cover. A big bonus is the cover floats, even with the GPS in it. Way cool. Body Glove makes good, durable items, and once I made the holes fit, I love the case. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Invaluable Navigation Resource for E-Map
I have found this product to be an invaluable navigation resource for my Garmin E-map. Even residential areas are very well covered. The maps may be five years old but they have proven to be accurate in my NorthEastern US travels.

This package gives you the maps and enough memory to hold maps of New York State, Vermont and Western Massachusetts. With proper use, I've always been able to head in the right direction.

I think this is a high quality product. If you have a Garmin E-Map and use it for city navigation, I think you will appreciate it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have
Its a must have if you are using garmin emap. Once you download the data from the cd rom into the memory cartridge you are ready to roll. Expect to see the whole area on the small screen. I would say with out the mapsource and the cartridge (which you have to have inorder to download the data) the emap is not complete. If you are willing to invest the money then i would suggest to get either the 16 mb or much better the 32 mb cartridge.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for City GPS Users
You must own this if you use a GPS in the city. This software works on your computer for exploring any street in the nation, and the data can be uploaded to the GPS unit and placed on the card. This allows you to use the data in conjunction with real time position information on the GPS. The software is great, and the road data is very accurate. If you want to go hiking or camping get the topo or roads and rec maps. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy! Out of date and unsupported.
Garmin do not make this any more. All the European maps have been combimed into a single CD package.

1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY! - OUTDATED PRODUCT
I made the mistake of ordering this product along with a new Garmin Etrex Vista a week before a UK trip. Garmin does not sell it any more. It's a WINDOWS 95, 98, NT 4.0 product. Not even NT 4.1, not less Windows 2000 or XP. The packaging mentions only GPSes that Garmin used to sell, none that they currently sell. It's a 1999 product, based on 1995 map data. ALL of the products with a European country name in them (France, Great Britain, etc) are OUTDATED! DO NOT BUY! See the Garmin site.

Garmin will charge you ...plus shipping to upgrade to the current product, which Amazon doesn't even appear to sell. Even this offer expires on August 31, then you are completely stuck.

In short, I trusted Amazon to know their stuff, and they cheated me. I guess they laid off their GPS guru. Very surprised and disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars Urban Explorer
I used this product in conjunction with the eTrex Vista unit, on a recent vacation to the UK. Traveling by train, I used the product mainly to navigate on foot in the various cities I visited. I found the pre-programmed waypoints of tourist sites, train stations, and even London tube stops, to be extremely accurate. As for the accuracy of the waypoints I uploaded by street address, it varied bit, but was still good enough to easily get me where I needed to go. My only real disappointment was with the granularity of the mapping data, as it is selected for upload. For the purposes of this feature, the country is divided into large sections, and I had cases where to get one city, I had to upload a large section containing several megabytes of data I wouldn't use. This of course tied up precious memory that kept me from uploading the data for other cities. Still, I found this to be a workable limitation since I could use the PC based maps to preprogram routes and waypoints for all the places I knew I would want to visit, regardless of their map section.

All things considered, this product greatly enhanced my vacation. Saving me the frustration of burying my head in maps, and hunting for the elusive European street sign, this product virtually eliminated one of the biggest headaches of what is meant to be a relaxing time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very useful in France
The Metroguide software for France is more useful than the US version. The maps seem more up to date, and, due to the difficulty of finding anything in France, much more useful. I managed to find our company's new building in a new town by punching in the address, and I was able to use my emap to find it in 10 minutes from the train station. It also seems to have up to date restaurant and attraction info for Paris and other areas. ... Read more

It also seems to have up to date restaurant and attraction info for Paris and other areas. ... Read more
