5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent drug reference
This new "plug and play" PDR® Handspring™ Springboard™ Module for the Visor™ handhelds makes accessing important FDA-approved drug data more convenient than ever. And it's updateable!

With a tap of the stylus, in a matter of seconds, your Handspring™ Visor™ handheld shows accurate, up-to-date, prescription drug information. It contains the full text of six key topics for every prescription drug fully described in the 2000 PDR® and PDR for Ophthalmology®. These topics include indications and usage, contraindications, warnings, adverse reactions, dosage and administration, how supplied, generic drugs and manufacturer.

5-0 out of 5 stars PDR in your Pocket? Now you can!
The famed PDR -- Physician's Desk Reference -- is a common sight in doctors' offices, pharmacies, and libraries. This indispensable volume lists all currently available prescription drugs along with their effects, interactions, and possible side-effects. However, the sheer size of the book made its use cumbersome -- this Desk Reference is nearly as big as a desk. But now, with the new Springboard Module edition, the PDR becomes as portable as the Handspring Visor it fits into.

No, it's not cheap -- but it puts the ability for every healthcare professional to have the PDR at their fingertips -- in their shirt pocket -- or in the proverbial little black bag -- 24 hours a day.

And considering the rugged nature of Handsprings, I would not be a bit surprised to see at least one of these in every EMT ambulance in the country in a year or so.

If you frequently use the PDR but you also want to be freed from the bulk of the printed book, then you need this module!

4-0 out of 5 stars A little expensive but most certainly worth it!
I believe that this was very useful. Exactly what my handspring visor deluxe needed. it added an extensive amount of memory to my visor and made it easier to store and retrieve applications. this helped me out a lot even though as a college student it put quite a dent in my wallet, but hopefully it will pay for itself.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have
What doctor, med student or resident could survive without a Physician's Desk Reference on their desk? Well, how about in your hand? If you have a Visor, you should have your own PDR at the ready. A must-have!

4-0 out of 5 stars A very handy prescription drug information tool
I was skeptical that Franklin's PDR 2000 module for the Handspring would work. I purchased it anyway because of Franklin's reputation with their Palm-compatible stuff.

But after putting it to work and using it every day in my practice, I have seen the terrific benefits of having this information handy for my patients. Everytime I pull out my Visor and look up the information as I sit right in front of the patient, they love the convenience and the "high tech" flavor this tool has.

Another great aspect of the PDA 2000 is that it is updatable, which just takes a few moments.

I can access accurate, up-to-date, prescription drug information and see six topics about every prescription drug, including indications and usage, contraindications, warnings, adverse reactions, dosage and administration, how supplied, generic drugs and manufacturer.

If you have a Visor and are a physician or dental profressional, I would recommend the PDA 2000 if you can stomach the cost. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Rocket eBook fits in the palm of your hand and stores the equivalent of 10 novels. Why fuss with bulky paperbacks on your travels when you can download them through the Internet and then read them at your convenience?

Some electronics manufactures have sought to replace the paperback novel with an electronic reader. The concept is simple: Create a handled computing device that can store the text of several books and thus negate the need to buy the physical books. The execution is not simple: Printed books are so perfectly well suited for their intended task that no battery-operated, LCD-sporting device can compete with them. Still, the Franklin Rocket eBook presents a worthy and fun alternative to the printed medium, if not a replacement. You control the unit with three buttons and four icons on its touch-sensitive screen, which let you select a stored title, navigate the title's chapters and pages, and decide how you want to display them (horizontally or vertically or for left or right-handed holding).

The Rocket eBook comes with its owner's manual, the Random House Webster's Concise Dictionary, and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland built-in. To purchase more books, you must install the included RocketLibrarian software and register the Rocket eBook online. In our tests, the process of acquainting ourselves with the device, installing the software, and registering the Rocket eBook online took about 45 minutes.

Using a provider of RocketEdition-compatible titles on the Internet, we located and purchased Daniel Brown's Digital Fortress in about five minutes, and we downloaded it in about two minutes. Transferring the book from our PC to the Rocket eBook took only 30 seconds.

For casual reading, even at only 22 ounces, the unit seems heavy after holding it for a few minutes--much heavier than a normal paperback. The unit's arrow keys let you page forward and backward, but not as rapidly as you can "thumb" through dozens of pages in a paperback. Also, you have to "pan" to see graphic images that are too large to fit on the LCD screen. Overall, the Rocket eBook's reading experience is not as pleasant as we've come to expect from reading an ordinary paperback. Still, if you want to read your favorite books but don't want to carry them in stacks as you travel, the Rocket eBook offers a great alternative--the ability to store several titles in a convenient, compact, portable package. --Mike Brown

Pros:

  • Relatively lightweight
  • Large storage capacity

Cons:

  • Limited rapid scrolling (thumbing through pages)
  • Limited number of titles available

5-0 out of 5 stars Pick one up!
I used to hate the fact that I couldn't read as much as Iwanted to. There just wasn't enough time in the day. The RocketeBook really changed that. I just throw it in my satchel and can turn it on and pick up reading right where I left off.

I know this sounds trite, but I rather read a book on the Rocket than in its paper version. It is a great crutch to my laziness--I can sit or lie in any position and with a flick of my thumb, turn the 'page.' And, whenever I have some down-time, I can spend it reading. The backlit screen makes reading in bed without disturbing my companion realistic. And, the screen is beautiful. It has a great clarity and I suffer from no eyestrain, of course, if YOU do, you can bump up the font a few points. The fact I can get many books loaded on the thing is incredible and allows me to select any reading material I'm in the mood for. Just a few clicks on a book seller's web site and I can download the book in a couple minutes.

I've read where some people complain that the books are a lot more expensive than they should be. However, ebooks are on average 20% less than the normal paper version, and when you consider there is no tax or shipping charges AND get instant gratification of receiving the books immediately, the savings really add up. You can also often download a portion of the book to read, free of charge, so you can see if you'll like it before paying for it. I'd also definitely recommend the 'Pro' version. It's more $$ than the basic version but has 12 more megs of memory and can hold upwards of 50 or 60 books. It's well worth it. Pick one up!

5-0 out of 5 stars If You Can Find It, Buy It!
I love my eBook! When I travel, I sometimes have 40 titles in it, and never run out of things to read. I especially love the way I can download free books from the Gutenberg Project and other public domain sites and load them into the reader. I can download HTML pages, and portions of web sites and have them to read. The backlit screen is very easy to read and requires no external light. You can adjust the light to accomodate a dark room or direct sunlight. I collect web pages and e-mail I've not read yet and upload them to the book. I have bought a few current titles from booksellers, with no shipping and immediate delivery too. Now the downside: It's so easy to get lots of good literature free that authors and book sellers are missing out on a cut of the profits. After all, if you want to read Mark Twain, why pay for a copy when it's all over the Internet, free? So they've stopped making this wonderful gadget, and the replacements from RCA actively discourage you from loading your own materials into the ebook. You can still find the software to do it, but you need to search for it. They also keep the prices very high,...for an ebook! I think this means the format is being driven out of the market slowly. This could eventually limit new, non-public domain book availability, but there will be thousands more freely available books too, plus all the reading you normally do on your computer screen, such as this web page. It will continue to be possible to use the ebook for that. Unless they come up with a PDA with a large, very readable backlit screen, with long-life batteries and highly ergonomic usability, it'll still be easier to read a Rocket ebook!

4-0 out of 5 stars Well worth having "if".
My Rocket eBook is most enjoyable in the dark hours of night if you have problems sleeping as I do. No more flashlights and no lamps on to disturb your partner. It travels just great.. the battery seems to last forever, you don't even need to pack your charger if a weekend trip. The "only" complaint I have is the lack of Best Sellers available and especially, the cost of the few that are. We all have the common sense to realize that if the publishers are NOT spending their money on printing, shipping, etc., they should be able to pass on these savings. At any discount store, we can get printed versions of a Best Seller for about $15.00.. Any new book should be available for this $15.00 or less. psv

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a terrific product!
I have had one of these for about two months, and am totally hooked on it. It has some readily apparent advantages (portability, ease of use, etc.), but some advantages that are not so apparent--it has focused my reading on some classics that I missed earlier in my reading life (as most e-texts are currently non-copyrighted materials; I finally got through Moby Dick) and it has helped to improve my computer skills (to get the absolute most out of it, you need to be able to do some somewhat sophisticated computer stuff). Probably its best feature for me is the portability factor--I can carry a wide variety of texts, articles, etc. on the rocket book in a single, easy to use package. Since I read both voraciously and omnivorously, this is a real plus. I also like the feature that allows different screen aspects (4 way print)--one setting is good for reading in bed, another for reading in a restaurant, etc. The one drawback is the comparitively small memory--if you want to maintain/save some of things that you have read, the 2MB memory quickly fills up. But I think that the value and utility of the product overall outweighs this quibble.

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful where I didn't think it would
This is a very useful product, particularly for downloading lengthy texts from the web. I have found it very useful for studying annual reports, speeches from CEOs, etc. The software allows simple downloading and then one can carry these useful texts with you. Fabulously useful!

My only regret is that it will not read PDF files. Currently, a number of the really useful things that I get come in PDF format. Right now -- in order to down load a PDF file you have to e-mail out and then download the file after a translator reworks it. This has not worked well. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Would be great if it worked!
I ordered my first one, and figured out how to link with my computer; it was easy to use, and seemed to be perfect for my needs. Then I noticed a "line" of the diplay was missing, making it difficult to read. I reset it, then called the company. They immediately sent me a new one. A week or two later, the same thing happened to this one. I am not going to spend a lot of time entering info into a product that won't work. Also, the address book does not seem compatible with Excel or any other product, so the only record you will have of it is the one that comes with the software. I would rather have one that I could use for other purposes.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Organizer / so far
I have just purchased the Rolodex RF-1000 organizer and so far has been excellent. I have been able to sync the organizer with my computer and it was pretty simple. I have been able to put in quite a bit of information and haven't even used a quarter of the memory yet. Thank you Rolodex for the fine product.

3-0 out of 5 stars Incompatable with many computers
Franklin RF 1000 has more memory than most users will ever need. The average user could keep all personal and business phone numbers and ten years of schedules and not use half the available memory. These organizers are incompatable with many computers. The system requirements fail to list that a serial comunication port at position 1 or 2 is requuired. If you have a serial mouse and a modem you are using both ports 1 and 2, and cannot synchronize with your computer to back up data. The organizer has many good features. It is a usefull tool but backup is unavailable to many purchasers. Franklin technical support cannot help with this problem.

3-0 out of 5 stars PC - Sync DOSN'T WORK WITH WINDOWS NT!
...the pc - sync for the franklin organisers ONLY work with windows 95/98 and only ENGLISH! versions. Although the organiser supports many different languages.

2-0 out of 5 stars Any other version?
It will be excellent if the product is available in other versions e.g NIV. Does anyone know if this product or a similar product is available in the NIV?

4-0 out of 5 stars Very handy for specific purposes
The next review gives good descriptive info. I just wanted to add that I find the Franklin electronic Bible convenient for two specific purposes. One is for doing Bible crossword puzzles (it saves a lot of page-rustling) and the other is for carrying in my shirt/jacket pocket (if I have large enough pockets) when I am sitting in a boat or walking in the woods, meditating. One drawback is that this model is not backlit so you do need some reasonable light.

3-0 out of 5 stars Handy, compact, & powerful
This Franklin is very convenient, fits easily in a shirt/coat pocket or purse, and is protected by a flip-top cover. It will search for any word or words in the popular King James Bible, and allow you to go, via the menu, to any specific book where the word is found, without looking at every book. It allows for type size changes, to allow for larger print if needed. It also has a bookmark list for you to save your favorite passages. It uses "button" type batteries that last a long time. The one drawback I have noticed is that it is slower in word searches than a "big brother" that cost about $20 more that operates in essentially identical operation techniques. The larger model is not quite as small, but is still compact, without the flip-up protective cover. It uses 4 "AAA" batteries, whose power may provide the difference in speed. NOTE: While Bible students may find this unit quite handy, remember that wording in more modern texts of the Bible may be sufficiently different to cause some difficulty in looking up specific verses if the corresponding KJV word(s) is not used. Still, this is a nice unit.

5-0 out of 5 stars A nice alternative to the expensive PDA's
This PDA does everything that is really necessary for a PDA to do. It keeps track of appointments, it has a thesauraus/dictionary/translator, it converts currency or measurements. It is a little difficult to read the screen in some light; however it's price is excellent. It is very compact, which is another feature I appreciate. Unlike most other personal PC's or PDA's this fits into a pocket and is virtually un-noticeable. The stylus pen works well overall if you don't need the flash and just need the basics this is a great product.

1-0 out of 5 stars I KNOW I WASTED MY MONEY
This PDA is NOT user friendly, Instruction manual is NOT very helpful and features it claims to have don't work as well as others do from other companies. Save yourself time/money... DO NOT buy this item.

4-0 out of 5 stars almost great
The RF-8130 does alot of things. It has about a third of the space
as a Palm m100. The only drawback is the back-lighted screen. It
is somewhat dim, about as bright as an Indiglo Timex watch display.
And, of course, this was the main reason why I chose to
purchase this model over the RF-8120 which has no backlighting.
Overall, it is worth the price, though.

1-0 out of 5 stars Do not waste your money
At first glance, this is a PDA but in fact the calendar is for displaying the date and time only. It is said in the box that it is compatible with several MS-Outlook but in fact it requires three transformations to synchronize the contacts agenda between the PC and the PDA. The PDF manual supplies a minimum of information abut how it operates and it is necessary to download html file from ... to find out what can be done. It looks like a PDA, but many functions are incomplete and very unfriendly. I think I have wasted my money. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical and cute
I live by my three ring organizer, but it is bulky to carry everywhere. I recently bought this Rolodex unit, actually the RF-192 which is almost the same as the RF-128. I put in all my business and personal addresses and phone numbers and fax, emails etc..plus lots of memos and anniversaries, and have used only 2% of the memory. It is also a calculater, hold two time displays, local and a world zone of choice, with editable city name for your location and the world zone. It is handy, small - fits in my very small organizer handbag, making that the only thing I carry during the day. All for a discount price below 30 dollars. Unless you really NEED the additional features of a palm unit, such as email access and web access (and who could read that!) a Rolodex electronic organizer is a fine product.

5-0 out of 5 stars Personal Organizer Review
I have used this item for several years, and I must say it is the best personal organizer that I have used. It's very convenyent with it's personal and bussnes names and phone #'s. It also has a great sceduler with alarm, so you will not forget your importent meetings, or other importent events. As a student I have found the calculator, time, and date very helpful. Another nice thing is that you can program the time for several different cities. If you are a person that is on the go just put in your info, and get going. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars the alternative brand BESTA is supposedly BETTER for Chinese
ISBN: 1-56712-594-8
which is expressed by amazon in the following format
ISBN: 1567125948
UPC: 0-84793-99213-1
country of origin: ?

battery requirement: two AAA
dimensions (in metric): 14.8 x 8.3 x 2.2 cm
weight: 8 oz. (ounces)
warranty from Franklin: 1 year
USA customers must call Franklin for an RMA (Return Merchandise
Authorization) number BEFORE sending it to NJ for "repair".
They suggest using "A TRACKABLE FORM OF DELIVERY".

Although amazon seems to carry only ONE Besta model (Korean),
I personally would hunt down the Besta Chinese thingamajig,
since what the Franklin costs is no small potatoes (for a device
that MIGHT be inferior to the one by Besta). Hope this helped.

4-0 out of 5 stars This one worked fine!
I purchased this electronic dictionary a year and half ago for my mom to learn new English words. The one that I got worked fine! And it's still working fine. My mom loves it! And she learned a lot of new English words.

1-0 out of 5 stars Oh My God!!!
I never bought this but come on! It just looks horrible - and Franklin?! I recommend buying from Besta - they specialize in Chinese translators.
The ones that have the touch screen pens are very useful.

2-0 out of 5 stars somewhat dissapointed
I am a non native speaker of English and when I came to the United States I got a lot of help from a Franklin Speaking Dictionary so I bought the Chinese-English version hoping it will do the same. First I liked the price. Similar gadgets go for a higher price and sometimes do not even have an English manual. The interface was also great then you can switch between Chinese and English. The disappointment came when I tried to use the "say" function. It didn't work. Hopefully my case is an isolated one. I think that if it had worked I would have liked this product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Franklin HW 216 IS WONDERFUL
This product is great. More parents should purchase it for their children. It gives your children the independence that they desire when doing homework and also you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Franklin HW 216 Homework Wiz Plus
My ten year old daugther is making great use out of the Franklin HW 216. In the car on the way to school she can easily review her spelling words. The big display is great for easy spell checking and the hangman game helps with the spelling too. The problem with the device is that it is very difficult to get the very small philips head screw out of the battery lid so that the four AAA bateries can be installed. I ended after almost an hour of trying opitcal screw drivers having to drill out the screw with a fine drill. Franklin customer service says this is a problem that they are aware of and hope to re-design the battery compartment in the future.

I don't know what this device is like, but if the spelling of the users who reviewed this product is of any indication, I think that I will skip it.
