1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
Problem one: I spent money to by the synch for Outlook, but the function doesn't work. Either I get a communication error on the Rolodex, or the I am told to press an "RX" button on the organizer, a button which doesn't exist as far as I am concerned. THe Instruction Manual gives no information about how to synch and the software that comes with the cable to allow sychronization has no help option.

Worthless

2-0 out of 5 stars Okay for [the money]
Christmas gift. At first I was thrilled. I'd wanted the functionality of a digital organizer, but balked at the $$$ of Visors and Palm Pilots. The touchscreen on the Franklin RF-8110 is hard to read in different types of lighting, and it's not very sensitive to the stylus. The words under the icons are blurry. There are 3 address books you can use, but you can't see all the fields of an entry at the same time; you have to touch the down arrow to see the next field. It has a calculator and world time, and even a Euro converter, but it does not convert Euro<->USD. Optional password is nice. One-touch memory check, change to daylight savings, switch between 12-hour and 24-hour time displays and language changer are all nice---as is the slim, lightweight design. However, the instruction booklet is poorly written and fails to give clues about what the different icons at the top represent. There's no picture of the screen showing all the menu items, etc.

I can obtain a "free" PC link kit to use with MS Outlook, butI haven't gotten it because I'm thinking of returning the organizer. For [the money] it's not a bad deal, but if you think, as I did, that this would be a nice, cheap substitute for a Palm, think again. Unlike the Palm, of course, you can't program it or send email, but I didn't want those features either. All I wanted was a nice, inexpensive digital organizer with which I could store names/numbers/addresses, get reminded of scheduled appts, and enter simple todo lists. Spend the extra money on what you want.

BTW, the detail on the larger picture is not exactly correct. For example, there are no numbers above the characters when you are entering a message. You have to touch the "ABC/123" icon to get numbers, once you go there, then you touch a "SYML" icon to get symbols...just a few, and it's hard to tell what they are sometimes.

1-0 out of 5 stars This was not at all what I expected.
My husband purchased this for me for christmas. I thought it would be great to have everything in one place, best of all you can synchronize it to MS Outlook. Unfornuately, it was almost impossible to see the screen, the layout was horrible. It did synchronize with Outlook, but to see your schedule for the day, you have to click into each date and scroll down and it tells you to wait for 5 to 10 minutes. You cannot shut it off while it is waiting so you waste your batteries, and end up having to write down whatever it is on paper so you do not forget. I was soooooo disappointed. Also, it took me four days to figure everything out because the instructions were sorely lacking vital information. I know computers I couldn't imagine someone who didn't using this product at all. basically it is an expensive calculator that is difficult to see. I really expected alittle more. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast and Easy Find
This is a handy little tool to find bible passages or just read the bible in KJV or use to compare the KJV to your favorite bible translation. Enter a scripture reference and it will bring you right to the passage. Or enter a word or a phrase and it will bring up the scrip refer one at a time to view the passage it is in. You can choose the font to small, medium or large to display on the screen.
Easy to use, you don't need a vass amount of knowledge to use this it is very simple.

5-0 out of 5 stars much much better than paper media...
The KJV Bookman card adds the text of the KJV Bible to your bookman device; For example, I use mine with the Webster dictionary.

If you read the Bible often, if you find yourself trying to locate a verse or phrase, or if you're participating in a Bible study, the KJV Bible in Bookman card would be a great choice. The card offers much much more than a book printed on paper:

- You can jump to any book, chapter or verse instantly (there's a simple notation for specifying a location in the Bible).

- You can search for words, phrases, use pattern matching, etc. The card lets you determine the approximate distance between words in a given search, which is a great feature -- this will let you narrow down on even complex searches, so you get be at the chapter and verse within seconds.

- The KJV is annotated with notes to clarify difficult words, etc.

- [THIS IS THE BEST] If you come across a verse you want to remember -- just bookmark is with a single keystroke. You can have several bookmarks, and you can jump to any bookmark with a single click.

And, of course, if you're reading somewhere within the Bible and all of a sudden you need to turn your unit off, you can subsequently turn it back on and it will be show the same screen as before you turned it off. This feature is great when in transit -- you can just shut down the unit, get on or off a bus, and then turn it back on when you want to read some more. Another great feature is that you can choose the size of the letters -- if you have a hard time reading a printed version of the Bible, just select the larger size letters and read away.

I like my unit and use it a lot. Together with a Franklin dictionary, this makes a great combination: Read a book or an article or a novel, see a word you don't know, look it up in the dictionary; See something you suspect is a reference to the Bible, just switch to the KJV and search for it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Buy
This card is a good buy. I originally borrowed this card from my friend and since then have been stuck on Word Poker along with a few of the other games. While this card has many of the same games as the Franklin Electronic Dictionary I have, its still a good deal and very much worth buying!

4-0 out of 5 stars Bookman Word Games Cartridge
I originally purchased this cartridge for my 11 year old to help her develop a broader vocabulary without realizing she was learning. She thoroughly enjoys playing "Hangman" and "Wordtrain", but the real surprise was how much her 14 year old brother enjoyed the other word games. The various skill levels allow for words that I don't even know! If this happens, a press of the button displays the dictionary entry for the word. While neither child cares for "Word Poker" or "Word Auction," the value of the other eight games makes the cartridge more than a worthwhile value. Other games include anagrams, jumble, word blaster (a speed spelling game), word deduction (a variation of word mastermind), memory challenge, word capture (a speed typing game), and Lotto for those of us who like to have our lottery numbers picked for us. All in all, the WORD GAMES cartridge has already provided more entertainment and learning value than I had anticipated. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Does the job well!
Does the job exactly as advertised. Note: get one of the free eBookMan add-on programs (either "Awake" or "Batgraph") so that the eBookMan will draw power from the adapter, rather than the AAA batteries, when turned off. The cord between the adapter and the USB connector for the eBookMan is generously long.

2-0 out of 5 stars Meets Needs, but False advertisement
I ordered this cable hoping that it would help with getting away from the limited use of the USB cradle due to the fact that I have a PDA case that requires velcro on the back. With the velcro, the once natural fit of the eBookman on the cradle becomes too snug and I am afraid I am going to damage the unit everytime I attach the device on. In turn, I purchased the USB cable, but the picture that Amazon shows is a long "version" of the cord. Looking closer, it looks like they just chopped off the USB cable from a cradle and showed that, being that cable is longer. In reality, the cable is a very short limited one. No wonder they offer it for 51% off. But oh, do they make up for the cost in shipping and handling. When I got the product and saw how short it was, I was naturally disappointed. I was looking for a long USB cable as advertised, long and convienent, and instead I got a limited short reachability. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Clever little gidget, good for travelling
This is a clever and convenient thing to carry around, and has turned out to be useful for travelling. Although it is mostly word-oriented, it does have some phrases, such as 'How much does that cost?'

It doesn't have anywhere near the vocabulary of a dedicated single-language dictionary, so it is most useful for casual use. For example, I have a software version of the Collins German-English dictionary that has quite a large vocabulary and I use it quite often instead of carrying a thick printed dictionary.

But for casual use, reading menus, deciphering signs, and asking the hotel staff for help with leaky faucets, the Franklin device is perfect.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better than the competition.
The best I can say about this product is that it's superior to the dictionaries available for download on the Palm platform--but that's not saying all that much. The interface needs improvement; the definitions do not include tips on the pronunciation of words; and some words are either missing from the database or are only half-heartedly defined. For the price, which is at least double that of the download-able dictionaries, I was hoping for more. Having said that, this product does indeed work--I'm a college student, and the dictionary contains the majority of the words I've needed to look up, including some obscure and technical ones. This product is, for now, the only dictionary out there that's worth spending money on. Despite my three-star rating, I'd recommend it to any owner of a Visor that is looking for a dictionary (this product is MUCH better than the Noah program).

2-0 out of 5 stars needs improvement
The idea of having a dictionary as big as the one advertised in this module is great. How many times have you wanted to look up a word only to stop yourself because you didn't want to open up that huge book? Even for those of us who have internet connections to look up words easily, sometimes we are not around the Internet and would like to be able to look up a word on an airplane, train, or bus, etc. The problem is with this module is the implementation. The navigation is poor, and even if you don't use it at first, you will want navigation in it lately. I would wait until Franklin releases a better user interface.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best springboard module.
For me This is the most useful of all the springboard modules. I usually have to carry a big heavy college-size dictionary around when I want to read something because there's inevitably going to be some obscure word that I don't know and that'll bug me if I don't look it up; but carrying around that size of a dictionary although it's really useful is rather on the cumbersome side. I was skeptical at first as to whether this dictionary had what it takes (as compared to an Encarta dictionary or an American Heritage college-sized dictionary) but the definitions are pretty close to what I'm used to reading the main difference being instead of carrying around a 10 pound dictionary I'm not carrying much more than my Handspring visor! This module mounts flush and even though beyond simply looking words up the navigation is a little lacking; the act of looking up words is much easier and quicker than opening up and looking for the words in a 10 pound dictionary. I don't use the module for anything beyond looking up words so I don't really use any of the navigation (beyond the little left arrow at the top to move from the specific definition to the index of all of the words). Navigation among the words is so easy I even found myself scrolling through the dictionary and looking up words that I knew nothing about; with this module it's sort of fun! So if you like to look up words and you own a handspring visor you should ask yourself this: Would you rather carry around a ten pound dictionary or a flush-mounting pittance of a module? ...And could you use all of the time you waste flipping through pages and running your finger down a column of ink?

3-0 out of 5 stars Good definitions but lacks color and user friendly interface
I've just got my dictionary module and I've been playing with it for a few hours. It's nice but I was waiting for something much better than the Freeware Noah dictionary. There are no colors and the font options are even too small or too big. The shortcuts are also useless. If you want to go back you have to use < and > for forward. It is very hard to do those symbols in my Visor and I think hardware buttons shortcuts would have been much better. The interface looks boring, like a DOS shell with not colors or anything. The only good thing about it is the search feature that looks for words that are similar to the one you entered if misspelled. I hope they release an update for this module. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A Major Disappointment
I was very excited to get this module. I remember having had a franklin electronic bible years ago and I was hoping to have that convenience again. Unfortunately, the interface is abominable. There's no real concordance, and when you try to search, you can only do the Old or New Testament, and the presentation of results is lousy, and it always tries to search its topic index first. What a pain. I'll gladly settle for a software solution that takes up a couple of Meg, because this program is so abysmal. There are free solutions out there drastically better than this [$] module.

I love it when I am at church and the preacher asks to turn to a specific book and verse in the bible, and i pull out my PDA with my Franklin Bible and start reading along and taking notes. It is so practical. Thanks FRANKLIN!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Be the hit of the congregation
This is the only module that I own, and the only one that I've been fascinated enough by to purchase. I really love it, and get the funniest comments about the functionality. When the pastor is quoting versus at lightspeed, I am easily able to keep up while everybody else just gives up. Tap. Tap. Tap. One feature it didn't have that I feel I was lead to believe it had was the capability to write extensive bookmarks. I would like to be able to associate notes with specific verses, instead I get a limited entry associated with the chapter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Franklin Bible Reader
I have been using the Franklin Bible Module for about a week now and I love it. Plug it in and it works flawlessly on my Prism. The unit is basically Franklin's Reader and their Bible Ebook combined on a module to negate the use of RAM, which in my opinion is the strongest selling point. The Franklin Reader is very simple to navigate, though somewhat limited in features. I like the ability to search for phrases as opposed to just one word. You may also bookmark sections which is very nice to compare scripture or mark your stopping point. The devotional and the index are both nice touches. Anyone who is familiar with Franklin's electronic Bibles or the software Reader should love this product. I highly recommend it. ... Read more
