Amazon.com Product Description

Get advanced fish-finding technology and a high-resolution display with the Garmin Fishfinder 240. The Fishfinder 240 transmits at 200 kHz with a sonar power output of 400 watts (RMS) and 3,200 watts (peak to peak) for a highly accurate picture to a maximum depth of 900 feet.

Garmin's See-Thru technology enables the sonar to hear weak and strong signals at the same time. A graphic whiteline presents a clear image of bottom hardness and structure, and the sounder detects fish even when they are suspended inside structure and thermoclines. Depth Control Gain automatically adjusts sensitivity according to depth.

View data on the Fishfinder 240's 4.2-inch diagonal, high-resolution LCD screen with a resolution of 240 by 240 pixels. Display options include split-screen zoom, depth, temperature, speed through water, auto ranging, 2x and 4x auto and manual zoom, three fish symbol sizes, and an adjustment bar. A backlit keypad allows you to navigate the screen with cursor keys and enter data.

The Fishfinder 240 comes in a fully gasketed, high-impact plastic alloy case rated to be waterproof submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 3.3 feet. This product comes with a protective front cover, mounting kit, wiring adapter cable, and a one-year warranty. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Good value.
For the price you pay this is a decent fishfinder. However, even with the updated software the performance of the 240 blue has been disappointing. As long as you do not plan to fish any water deeper than 500 feet, it works well. After 500 feet you lose the reading and you then must circle back into shallower water to regain the signal. Unfortunately, you generally have to go all the way back to about 300 feet of water to actually do this. In shallow water it works well. Just keep in mind that the actual max depth is 500, not 1500, feet when buying.

4-0 out of 5 stars Garmin 240
The Garmin 240 is an excellent value. It is your best bet for under 300.00. It is extremely easy to install, only a one cable hook up. The High Resolution display is top of the line. The display of the thermocline is great when it works. The transducer has given me problems. But overall it is an awesome value. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars best low end unit
The Garmin fishfinders model 100blue and 160blue are basically the same unit. The only difference is screen size. These are the best low end fishfinders available today for the salt water fisherman or diver. The gray scale and adjustable contrast show up as well as any LCD unit under sunlight. The screen/pixel resolution could be better but it's a price difference. If you want ultimate resolution go with the model 240. The real plus of this unit is its durability, ease of operation and the power of the dual frequency 300 watt transducer. Like most Garmin marine products their fishfinders are built to last, water intrusion and breakage won't be a problem under normal usage. Operation is also very intuitive, if you read what the zoom, gain and frequency mean then you will know how to use the unit. A readable manual is also provided. The unit performs well, the transducer signal is able to penetrate somewhat in to the bottom. This will give you an idea of bottom composition and structure, all important to offshore fishermen.

In all, if you are looking to get a saltwater sounder and price is a concern than one of these two units is for you. If you can go a hundred or so dollars more you should consider the model 240. ... Read more
