5-0 out of 5 stars Best Bang for the Buck
80 gig's of space for alittle over a 100 dollars. I've had this for 4 months now and it works perfectly. It's quite, fast and everything I wanted and more. I don't know what these others are talking about. I use it just for storing Music ,videos and games. No problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worse product I've bought in a long time.
Worked great for about 4 weeks then one day I fired it up and "poof" the computer couldn't see it and their tech support concluded that it was broken. I see from other reviews that I'm not the only who has had this problem. I'm serious, someone should start a class action about this HDD. They obviously know it's a lemon. They must have no conscience whatsoever. I lost about 5 years worth of digital photography and about 50 compositions that I've written over the years. All they offered to do was replace it and send my old back. Dream on! I can't afford to lose all the info on this drive. (...).

5-0 out of 5 stars Sweet!
I got mine. Ignored the fact that the other guy had a bad experience with the fan. He must have got a lemon because mine doesn't make a sound at all. Iomega will replace such things, just in case you didn't know. That's what warranties are for.
I don't care much for the Iomega software though. Mine seems to hang up...might need some tweeking. But the Norton Ghost 2003 is perfect for my needs. Easy to use. It backed up my entire system in no time flat using the Windows interface.

2-0 out of 5 stars Want to repel rodents? Buy this drive!
Just bought one of these. Seems to work okay, but the high pitch, whirring noise of the fan may be of some concern for some users. It produces 50-55 decibels (equivalent to noise emanating from a 30-year old refrigerator). I'll be using it for backup only, so I'll be able to turn it off when not in use. Which, BTW, must be performed by unplugging it since there is no power switch. If you're in need of disk capacity, spend the extra $100 to get yourself into a firewire compatible drive--the transfer rate of USB 2.0 isn't adequate for quick access.

5-0 out of 5 stars Affordable, reliable disaster recovery and backup...
Have owned this drive for about 6 weeks. Simple install in Windows XP. Iomega backup software works well. Ghost 2003 was a real bonus and works perfectly including allowing you to write to the USB Iomega in DOS as well as restore in case of disaster, first drive I've seen do that this perfectly. Backed up Ghost images of my two hard drives (about 50GB) in compressed form to the Iomega with no problems whatsoever, all while in DOS environment. If you want simple, efficient backup and off line storage, this is your solution hands down. Paid an incredible $90 for it after a rebate, you can't go wrong. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Floppy of the Future
When I first unpacked this , I was amazed to see just how compact it was. The software loaded without a hitch and I was up and running. This is a dream come true. It backs up my data as fast if not faster than my old external drive. I bought this because on my job we switched from our old Zip 250 to these, so I needed this at home for work, but wow It does so much more. I loaded all my sons pc games onto it so I could free up the pc's internal drive and they work just as well. I just pop out his disk and place in mine when I need to work. I love it, Thanks Iomega for a great device.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Super Zip
This is what we needed. Iomega finally gave us a Zip style drive to meet the needs of today. I use this as an external hard drive. It's as fast as my maxtor 80 gig, but with being able to swap disks. I lost alot of data once when my old external maxtor crashed. But with this it's easy to change disks. I had the zip 250 for 5 years and loved it but needed more storage. This is the answer. Software loaded easy and I was up and running in a few minutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Great
This device is simply awesome.

We've been looking for a back-up solution for some time. At first we looked at DVD based solutions.

Unfortunately, such solutions have at least four limitations. First, reading and writing to DVD is much slower than a USB hard drive. Second, DVDs can only store 4.7 GB of information. Therefore, backups need to span multiple disks; and forget about storing a hour long .avi file to a single disk. Third, writing information to DVDs requires special software. Fourth, unless you have a cartridge based DVD-RAM drive, you can only re-write data on a DVD about a thousand times.

This device solves those problems. It is fast, reliable and easy to use. After plugging it into a USB port it functions just like a removable 35 GB hard drive. We use it for backing up data and video files. We can store two hour long .avi files and their mpeg2 equivalents on a single disk.

3-0 out of 5 stars Backup needs 1 disk for system and 1 for data
Big suprise to me - Iomega REV software backs up user files ONLY.
The ad copy says "Save Everything!" but backing up Windows system files to a REV disk requies a special version of Norton Ghost (included with the REV).
REV Backup and Norton Ghost cannot share one disk even if partitioned.
Each must have its own disk.
Backing up a complete hard drive requires 2 REV disks.
REV Automatic Backup Pro will automatically back up user files at specified intervals but system backups are not automatic because Norton Ghost runs directly from the CD drive not under Windows.

I found the REV system software install confusing and my first attempt produced a configuration that does not recognize the disk that it created. Nothing in Help or the web site FAQ's addresses this issue.
I have not taken time to uninstall it and start over.

The initial REV backup copy of 7.7GB took 3.5 hours.

Be aware that the software shipped with initial units needs patches before use (available on the Iomega web site).
I believe that I can get this to work for me - but it isan't a no-brainer install.
Review pertains to the USB model REV on a Win 2000 Pro system.

5-0 out of 5 stars One BIG Zip Disk
This is being marketed as a backup solution, and that's fine, it's a great one and, depending upon what you're using, maybe a little expensive. However, don't overlook (and this isn't obvious at all from their marketing) that this is still just like one very fast, and, very, VERY BIG password protected Zip Drive! Iomega has finally delivered what they promised (and NEVER delivered at 2.0 USB!!!) with the Peerless several years ago. This unit is really small -- the disks are smaller than Zip disks -- and if they keep up with their plans of doubling the capacity every 18 months or so, they may really be onto something. Installation was totally unremarkable and exactly as promised. It comes with a version of Norton Ghost made especially for the Rev. Following the included directions step-by-step re: the Ghost backup is very important. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great product, few nitpicks
I did not buy this on Amazon but instead found it for $130 on another website. Unfortunately, I don't have USB 2.0, but the unit works fine and speedier than I expected on my USB 1.1. The only problems I had with this are the extremely bright blue led light that can get very annoying if it's in your line of site (i.e. if you use it with a laptop like me), and the slightly imperfect connections for the USB and power (the USB was a little difficult to get all the way in and the power felt a little loose). Otherwise it's a solid, quiet product that deserves the four stars I gave it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't trust this product with your data!!!
This is the second product from Iomega that I have had problems with. I know, you think I would have learned the first time. I got this product yesterday. It installed fine. I backed up my files, installed Norton Ghost and created a .gho copy of my entire system. That took 12 hours. When it finished I shut down the computer and powered off the HDD. This morning when I started everything back up, guess what? No HDD. I have spent all day troubleshooting to no avail. Finally broke down and called Tech Support (toll call). After 5 minutes of speaking with me, mostly asking me my name, etc... they said, ok we will send you a new one. Unbelievable! No help, no ideas, no nothing. Just "we'll replace it". Obviously they are used to their products having problems. Then guess what? They are out of stock. They won't take it back because I bought it from Amazon. I got a little upset and so they transferred me to the sales department, saying that the sales department had a special return policy since I bought it online. The sales department had no idea what I was talking about. They offered to transfer me back to tech support and I told them to forget it. That is the last time I buy something from this company. You would think that if the only thing you do is produce and sell storage devices you could at least get it right. And if you didn't, you could try to offer some satisfaction to those that are extremely inconvenienced by your shortcomings. Unreal. Now basically I am out the $170. This HDD has all my personal data on it - it's not something I want to send back to Amazon without being able to clear out. I would really think twice, no I guess that would be three times before buying ANYTHING from Iomega!

PS - Did I mention the files I moved on to the HDD as an archieve? Won't ever see those again....

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product. with simple to follow backup software
I highly recommend this product. I used the firewire connector and had everything set up in a few minutes. I use it to back up everything important; documents, e-mails, music, photos, videos, downloads, etc. The hard drive works flawlessly, and the Iomega Automatic Backup software is very simple to use. Just choose directories to back up then select backup methods (i.e., after files are changed, on a fixed schedule, etc.). This product also comes with Norton Ghost which I did not install. One nit-pick: the firewire cable inclued is only 3 ft. I needed 6 ft. and had to buy a replacement (6pin to 6pin, and they're not exactly cheap).

4-0 out of 5 stars Good performance, ample storage.
The Iomega HDD 120GB offers solid performance and a great bundle, and would be suitable for multimedia developers, those in the graphics, video or audio industries, power users, or simply anyone who needs to move a lot of data around quickly.

In my testing, I copied 10GB of files and folders from a PC to the drive in 8 min 1 sec.

The drive weighs in at about 820g (1.8lbs) though, so it may not be something you want to haul around all the time - but to be fair, Iomega does advertise these as "desktop hard drives."

If you want truly portable external storage products, Iomega also offers a range of lighter products that utilise notebook hard disks.

Pros: Fast; quiet; lots of extras.

Cons: Slightly expensive. ... Read more
