Amazon.com Product Description

Bypass your computer system and print photos directly from your digital camera's memory card, with the Epson R300M. Thanks to a 2.5-inch color preview LCD, you can enlarge, crop, or resize before you even press the print button, and then enjoy your borderless 4-by-6-inch photo in as little as 37 seconds. With clear border definition and color separation and genuinely realistic skin tones, the prints will be suitable for framing, as if they had come from a professional photo lab.

Printing directly on CDs
and DVDs is a snap.
The R300M also does a splendid job on standard text documents, envelopes, labels or transparencies--you can even print on CDs and DVDs in both 8cm and 12cm sizes. When you're in a hurry, churn out draft-quality sheets at 15 pages per minute, or take your time and achieve the ultimate perfection of 5,760 x 1,440 optimized dpi photos.

Wireless option: With a separately sold Bluetooth adapter, you can print directly from Bluetooth-equipped devices.
Six individual ink cartridges keep the cost of consumables low; yields of 630 black pages and 430 color pages (based on 5% coverage) mean you won't have to replace any of them too often. A convenient USB port allows you to connect a Zip drive or PictBridge-equipped camera directly to the front panel. The sleek black and silver finish adds a streamlined modern look to your desktop, and the paper trays fold away when not in use to keep the area tidy. Epson includes a one-year warranty with the Epson exchange program.

Designed by Epson, an industry leader in photo imaging technology, the Epson Stylus R300M supports Exif Print and PRINT Image Matching technology to automatically print the best possible photos from P.I.M.-enabled digital cameras. With stunning image quality, a large color preview monitor, and many easy-to-use features, printing all your favorite photos is a breeze. And, when you pair the printer's individual ink cartridges with Epson's high-quality, value-priced papers, you've got an affordable home printing solution. 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer, if you know what it does NOT come with!
The printer works great! But the only downfall is the fact that the website said it would print from wireless devices and the picture showed an LCD screen that looks like it is flipped up. Too bad that they do not tell you that it will print from wireless devices IF you buy the wireless adapter. And the LCD screen is available as an additional purchase. You may think you get everything they advertise but you only get the basic package!

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the BEST
Of course, all Epson stylus photo's produce great picture quality, are solidly built and have thoughtful easy setup directions. I've owned several Epson's and each generation just gets more amazing - both in easy of use and quality.

It's a 6-ink inkjet and it's an Epson stylus photo so I don't really need to go on about the print quality but the R300M has some great and outstanding additional features.

#1
This printer prints with the Mac/PC on or off. You can use a USB cable to plug in your digital camera or better yet, drop in your camera's memory card in one of the front slots and view using the COLOR LCD screen! And if you activate the feature, the memory card mounts on the desktop (well at least on a Mac) so you can save from having to buy a memory card reader also!

It reads CompactFlash, Microdrive, Memory Stick, SD, MMC, SmartMedia or xD so unless you own some weird Albanian format - you are set to go.

Just plug in your memory card - use the simple navigation (two minutes to learn and very clear) to set the size you want to print and what kind of paper you are using. Then just arrow up & down to view thumbnails (with a preview window of your photograph) - once you select the photograph, it fills the 2" COLOR screen so you know exactly what you are getting. Then hit PRINT and there it is. If you have a nice digital camera and your photographs are at the highest resolution - you get a print that indistinguishable from store processed.

It prints BORDERLESS 8.5" by 11" - great quality and makes your special photographs look like art.

#2
It prints on CD-R and DVD-R's. While you can certainly use Epson discs (probably a bit steeper), I did not have a lot of different types of printable media around (you get a Memorex branded freebie with the printer) but they all look fine. It depends on your needs - some look a little darker than others so you'll have to experiment a little but an incredibly easy to use feature. You simply insert a special tray - launch the Epson CD software - paste and/or type and select print. Since Epson included a Memorex CD, it's pretty obvious you can use any brand - as you might know, your choices on the CD/DVD printables are with a white background or on silver so depending on your artwork - some might look better on white - others on silver. DO NOT print on non-printable CD/DVD-R's - the ink will smear! (no, I did not have to try it to know that :-)

#3
Setup is amazingly easy and you get a nice assortment of software.

#4
I know some printers have special chips in the print cartridges that do not allow you to use 3rd party color cartridges - not the case with Epson - I've already seen 3rd party cartridges for the R300M so if you decide not to buy the Epson ink, you have other choices.

#5
Epson has a great selection of professional paper including some that will supposedly not yellow in 25 or 100 years (you choose) so you get a lot of professional options along the way.

The ONLY ONLY tiny downside is you do not get a USB cable so you will need a "B" to "A" cable - I had an extra one but if you don't, they're about $6 and up.

Other than that tiny thing - it's perfect if you want high-end print results from a $250 printer - if you want 4x6 to 8.5x11 borderless printing along with a COLOR preview window for printing with or without the computer being on - and if you want easy CD/DVD-R printing - and it's well designed and with great step by step setup instructions - this is one great printer!

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW This is The Printer to Buy!
My client Tim, the "dental guy" was in the process of marketing a dental plan in the Las Vegas area, when he advised me that he wanted to print CD cards to pass out to his clients. I purchased this Epson printer, but wasn't really sure if it could produce the professional quality he desired.

I converted his logo to a vector graphic, so it could be printed on a variety of marketing items, cups, and t-shirts. At first, I was reluctant to put the actual CD into the printer. My non-trusting techie self, wondered how it was going to come back out, since the CDs had already been burned.

I cautiously put in the CD in the tray, and went to the design program, bundled with this printer. I taught my client, how to set up the design, and WOW! The actual CD went inside the printer, and out came a professional labeled CD, in full color.

Although the speed was slower than I would have liked, and you must purchase the Epson media CD or DVD, you can retire those sticky labels that jam in other printers. If you want to send out CD media to your clients, with your logo, in full color, and do it cheaply, this is the printer to buy!

Even though, I happen to be an HP printer fan, Epson has my admiration on this printer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunned at the Quality
I was absolutely stunned at the output from this printer, and I've been around color lasers for years. For the price, I love this new toy.

Paper is key, though. You need to use the premium glossy photo paper to get the prints that are nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. On matte photo paper, the results are more like a poster, still excellent by inkjet standards. You only get one sheet of each to start with, they should provide more. They also provided a feed-in roll so you can print a batch, but I probably won't use that feature.

Source is key, too, if you have crummy pictures, they'll look crummy when printed. I have 2.2 megapixel photos that blow up to almost 8x10 no problem.

Black and white mode is ... well, black and white. Nothing special on that front.

It will also _devour_ ink. Expect maybe 25-35 8x10s before you'll be needing a new color cartridge. It's still a deal compared to lab prices. I didn't deduct for that because you don't deserve this kind of output at the price it sells for.

I wasn't interested in speed, so I didn't mind that the unit takes awhile to warm up and doesn't break any speed records in either color or B/W mode. Setup was easy, I did have one temporary glitch, and the software is pretty solid (WinNT).

5-0 out of 5 stars one FANTASTIC printer! best photo quality, allows roll paper
I was always impressed with the print quality of my previous inkjet, the original Epson Stylus Photo.

Well, let me tell you - the Photo 890 simply blows the competition away! The print quality on Epson Glossy Photo paper is nothing short of STUNNING! Even under light mangification it is impossible to see the dots. Skin tones and faces have a continuous tone not possible with other printers. And print speed, while not stunning, is perfectly acceptable considering the quality.

As others have noted, Epson generally uses 2 ink cartridges. Because all 5 colors are in one cartridge (black is the other cartridge), if you run out of one color you must replace the entire cartridge. Subjectively, the cartridges seem to last about twice as long as my older Epson, but they're still not [inexpensive].

On the other hand, the Photo 890 has a roll paper option that allows you to print edge-to-edge without margins. This is a SIGNIFICANT cost savings which I believe somewhat balances the higher ink cost.

As an added bonus, you can barely hear this printer printing (something I could NOT say about my previous Epson).

5-0 out of 5 stars Great performer on more than photos!
This is my third Epson printer, purchased in June, 2001, just before a trip to Italy where I planned to take lots of digital shots. The first Epson lasted me 4½ years, and the second one, a Stylus Color 800 (refurbished) is still going strong as my everyday "workhorse" for non-photo applications after 4 years. After poor HP experiences, I am absolutely sold on Epson.
When this printer is given Epson papers to work with, it produces the most stunning (and lightfast) photos imaginable. I've actually taken some of the same digital images to a local drugstore and printed on their Kodak machines, and BOY, are mine superior!
Well worth the price even though it has been superceded by faster models with individual ink tanks.
I've heard fairly often that this is an ink drinker, but that hasn't been my experience. As long as you set the proper settings in the printer options panel depending on the job, they'll last a reasonable length of time.
This one will keep me happy for a few more years, I trust.

2-0 out of 5 stars Was OK while it worked
I had this printer for about one year.
The GOOD:
The inks are really good and long lasting. You can drop water on them one minute after printing and they won't fade.
The printer accepts many different kinds of paper sizes and printing media.
The drivers have lots of settings and you have enough flexibility to be creative.
The BAD:
The drivers have lots of settings and you never know if you have chosen the right one, and at times, when the collors are wrong and any setting seems to be wrong, after you go through tons of ink and paper, you might have to do as I did, take the pictures to a photo shop, in a few minutes, at a fraction of the cost when you add the waisted paper, ink and time.
Printing is very slow. A real picture of 8x11 takes "forever" (10-15 min). (How can they claim that the printer is fast? Fast comparing with what? Drawing the page by hand?)
The ink cartridges clog constantly and one every other page comes out with random tiny red lines across. Customer support didn't want to talk to me unless I paid, and then they just told me to take the printer to a repair shop (After 20 minutes of waiting and paying the fee, the service call was over in about 30 seconds). Waist of money and time calling customer support. A repair shop will charge to diagnose and repair the printer (change the printer heads and allign them) more than what a new printer costs today.
I have no choise but to buy a new printer now.
Oh, and another thing, in one year I mingled with it enough to get acceptable pictures out, but I could never get on the paper the same collors that I would see on the screen. I got some special pictures with all the basic collors and different mixings, and to save my life I could not set the printer to reproduce those collors. I waisted days and nights downloading upgrades and changing settings, I bought the printer's tech book (I am an electronics engineer by trade, so I HAD to read the manual :-)).
Guess what... I am looking at Canon and HP now.

5-0 out of 5 stars JUST BUY IT !
You can't improve on perfection. It's fast, quiet and the quality is superb. Don't let the price of supplies scare you. Compatible color cartridges are available ... from many vendors and the quality is the same. Try eBay for Epson Paper. Sure it's 2880 DPI, and some of the new ones are 5760 DPI. If your eyes can detect 2880 dots in an inch, you are obviously Clark Kent. There's enough rebates out there that you should be able to get this printer for around $99. Look, don't read any further, take my word for it, JUST BUY IT ! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars This printer is total garbage
The only reason I rated it 1 of 5 is that rating it below zero was not an option. I bought one of these disasters late fall of 2003. I bought it new not refurished. Now in Feb of 2004 it has died. It is the dorkiest printer I have ever seen. Even when it worked it printed several sheets at once and threw paper all over the floor. I ran out of color ink but still had black left. I only wanted black and white print but it would not print anything. Even if I switched the printer settings to black only it would print nothing. SO I went to buy new cartridges. By golly they were out of color. So I was stuck until I could find a store that had color. Changing the cartridges was dorky too. With HP printers, the process was obvious enough that I only need to read the instructions once. With the Epson I have to find the manual to find which button(s) to push to get it to move the print head out so I can swap cartridges. There are a number of unintuitive steps to the process. It seems to always be a half hour ordeal. Well, it is not a long process anymore. Now the "helpful" LCD display on the printer reads "General Error. See your printer documentation for information about clearing this error." There is no information on clearing errors at all in the documentation. I plan to clear the error by clearing this waste of plastic right out of my home. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It gets the job done!
I think this is a fabulous scanner. I'm the curator for a photographic website ...and I've run over 4000 11"x14" photographs through mine with no problems. I use ULead's PhotoImpact 6 for image processing (TIF to JPG) - it's the only program that allows macros - when you're doing 4000 scans with several manual steps the macros are indispensible. I can't say I'm looking forward to scanning the next 4000 photos, but I sure know this scanner can do the job.

At 400 dpi it is fast (40 seconds for 14-bit greyscale 11"x14" scan) and very quiet. I added a SCSI hard drive to get the 50 MB TIF files to save to disk on my NT system in 2 seconds.

The sample size (14-bit B&W or 42-bit Color), resolution and Dmax are unmatched until you spend over $10,000.

Add the Epson 1280 printer for the best photo output.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lousy software, Terrible support
I wasted no time returning this scanner. I have eventually settled on a Microtek 4600. The Epson is sleek appearing, lightweight, fast. But fast is no good when the results are unuseable. The Epson software doesn't permit you to preset what you want to scan and whether or not to push more light to it, or less. It defaults to amateur settings and the results might thrill someone who's never used a scanner before, but anyone who has used one for graphics work of any kind, will find it unworthy. The factory is impossible to get hold of either through email, or telephone. In essence the software is lousy and the support is nil. Back it went.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Scanner for the price
This scanner is an excellent purchase for an ad agency or design house looking to improve their color. Right out of the box, this scanner has excellent color reproduction, and the 3.6 DMax grabs excellent detail in the shadows. Our agency... has a client roster of many large agribusiness firms, and this scanner grabs onto individual hairs in even the blackest Black Angus cattle.

The Epson TWAIN software handles USM and de-screening like some of the higher-end scanners, but it lacks precise controls for those features.

Batch scanning is one of the strengths of this scanner, with multiple marquee selection as easy as click and drag, and one-button batch scanning.

This scanner offers one-button capture(Windows only), network scanning and an Automatic Document Feeder option, but we have not explored those options in our workflow. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I was blown away
My fiance and I are both art directors and we bought this printer to primarily update the work in our portfolio's. Both of us were somewhat skeptical about the level of quality we would receive, being used to having high quality proofs in our books. Well it's amazing, but this printer produces very high quality stuff. Frankly, it's not easy to differentiate between the Epson print and a C-print sitting in a portfolio.

It's not the speediest printer in the world, but then I didn't expect it to be. If your like me, you won't bother to print on the "fast" setting much, when you get used to the primo quality of the "quality" setting.

The other thing I like is that it's really not that big of a printer considering it will print 13x19 paper. I had expected it to be much larger, but it fits pretty nicely in the exact spot my laser printer occupied.

Also, despite being a photo printer, it does text pretty well. I haven't printed out that much text, but the things I have printed on the "quality" setting, have looked pretty good to me.

The output I get from my Canon S300 digital elph are also great. I have pics up in my office and everyone is shocked when I tell them it's not an actual photo, but an epson print.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Quality--Forget the rest, buy Epson
I've used several brands of inkjet printers... As far as I'm concerned, none of them can compete with the Epson.

I currently work at a [camera] store with [another kind of printer], one of the best silver-based photo printers on the market. I've shown my customers prints from my Epson 1280, and before I told them, they assumed the [store printer] printed them. The images from this printer are THAT good. That's saying a lot when you consider you're comparing a $xxx.xx printer to something that costs several hundred thousand dollars!

Pluses: Fine, fine resolution. The printer is relatively fast at 1440dpi mode, VERY fast at 720dpi mode. 2880 mode takes a while for enlargements, but that's to be expected. I like the fact that the printer uses 6 color inks to get a better range of tones. And of course, the ability to print borderless prints up to 13" wide is great.

Minuses: Nothing I can think of that really matters. The only minus I can think of is that it takes up a lot of room on my desk, but it's worth it. Nobody sells the printer cartridges for this printer locally because nobody sells this printer locally, and the color cartridge is specific to this printer and the 1270. Luckily Amazon sells them at a good price.

I highly recommend this printer!

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely outstanding
I replaced my Epson 1520 with the 1270 (now 1280). I did this to get higher quality prints that would last a long time without fading.

The prints have been nothing short of outstanding. The premium glossy paper is unbelievable in print quality. However, I prefer the heavy weight mat paper due to lower cost. Images are outstanding and the paper is much lower in cost. As for the printer, I have gone through five color ink cartridges with no problems. Sold black areas are black with no banding. This is one of my quality tests of a printer. Banding is unacceptable. The Epson passes with flying colors with an occasional need to use the automatic nozzle cleaning utility. I print 10 by 15 inch prints and measured an output of 22 prints per color cartridge, with about half of the back cartridge being used. This is more surface area of printing than my older model 1520 (which was also nice but not nearly as good).

Bottom line is that I see no way to improve this printer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing
I just bought the 1280 and I am extremly disappointed. I had a Canon i9100 for a couple of weeks, but returned it because it didn't print 11x14 borderless prints. The Epson did, so I bought it. Upon comparing the Canon i9100 to the Epson 1280, there really is no comparison. The Canon has vivid, and true color, the Epson prints couldn't come close to the Canon prints no matter what I did. The Canon is lightning fast. Even at it's highest resolution settings. The Epson is painstakingly slow at any setting other than draft mode. I was really hoping the Epson would work out for me, but no such luck. I'm returning the Epson and re-purchasing the Canon i9100. I'll just have to print out at 11x17 and trim off three inches when I need 11x14 prints. The $100 price difference for the Canon is well worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars A real disappointment
I've had my printer now for 1.5 years, and have constantly battled with it. I've returned 3 and received 3 refurbished units, all with the same problems...(banding, ink randomly dropped on the photos, constant need to clean the print heads, etc.)...I thought it might be the USB connection, but saw no improvement when I switched it to the parallel port. I do think, however, that it has to do with the computer-printer interface, to have the same problem with 4 different units. I have 80-100 pages that printed so badly that I couldn't use them, which is pretty expensive given the amount of ink the printer consumes. Epson support was of very little help. I too have a friend who gets WONDERFUL prints off of her Epson 1280, but can't figure out why I don't get the same results... ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Epson Powerlite 30c ..Cute little projector
Finally there's a projector one can afford. I am quite pleased with the quality of the projection. In addition to 1024x768 VGA, it also handles HDTV 1080i as well as all other current video standards (NTSC-PAL/SECAM). Unfortunately, the image isn't bright enough to see in a well lit room; you'll have to turn out ALL the lights to see the output from this projector.
Great for watching your DVDs, making presentations, or just plain fun (surfing the web on a 200" screen is quite nice :-) .

Cons: The bulb is rated for 1440 hours of use before it supposedly explodes, discharging toxic mercury vapor into your viewing area. I don't like the price tag of the bulb either... for a projector bulb is simply outrageous! And if you use your projector like I do, expect to replace it every year (and you thought ink-jets were expensive to operate). My advice: wait for other companies to release 'consumer-priced' projectors and PRAY that the replacement bulbs will be more economical. *OR* buy yourself a []CRT projector, problem solved! 3-)...

5-0 out of 5 stars Great projector for fairly little money
As long as you're not working in a big theater, this is a terrific projector for everyday presentations. It is one of the least expensive on the market, and easy to use right out of the box. The controls are super-easy and the hook up simple and clear. A nice sharp, bright image in a very small and lightweight package. ... Read more
