And, when you pair the printer's individual ink cartridges with Epson's high-quality, value-priced papers, you've got an affordable home printing solution. Whether you're printing with or without your computer, the Epson Stylus R300M offers total control, with remarkable results every time. What's in the Box Features Reviews (3)
It's a 6-ink inkjet and it's an Epson stylus photo so I don't really need to go on about the print quality but the R300M has some great and outstanding additional features. #1 It reads CompactFlash, Microdrive, Memory Stick, SD, MMC, SmartMedia or xD so unless you own some weird Albanian format - you are set to go. Just plug in your memory card - use the simple navigation (two minutes to learn and very clear) to set the size you want to print and what kind of paper you are using. Then just arrow up & down to view thumbnails (with a preview window of your photograph) - once you select the photograph, it fills the 2" COLOR screen so you know exactly what you are getting. Then hit PRINT and there it is. If you have a nice digital camera and your photographs are at the highest resolution - you get a print that indistinguishable from store processed. It prints BORDERLESS 8.5" by 11" - great quality and makes your special photographs look like art. #2 #3 #4 #5 The ONLY ONLY tiny downside is you do not get a USB cable so you will need a "B" to "A" cable - I had an extra one but if you don't, they're about $6 and up. Other than that tiny thing - it's perfect if you want high-end print results from a $250 printer - if you want 4x6 to 8.5x11 borderless printing along with a COLOR preview window for printing with or without the computer being on - and if you want easy CD/DVD-R printing - and it's well designed and with great step by step setup instructions - this is one great printer!
I converted his logo to a vector graphic, so it could be printed on a variety of marketing items, cups, and t-shirts. At first, I was reluctant to put the actual CD into the printer. My non-trusting techie self, wondered how it was going to come back out, since the CDs had already been burned. I cautiously put in the CD in the tray, and went to the design program, bundled with this printer. I taught my client, how to set up the design, and WOW! The actual CD went inside the printer, and out came a professional labeled CD, in full color. Although the speed was slower than I would have liked, and you must purchase the Epson media CD or DVD, you can retire those sticky labels that jam in other printers. If you want to send out CD media to your clients, with your logo, in full color, and do it cheaply, this is the printer to buy! Even though, I happen to be an HP printer fan, Epson has my admiration on this printer. Gina Novelle at Exclusive Markets ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description The input paper tray holds 100 sheets, 10 envelopes, or 30 transparency films. The 890 accepts a tremendous variety of photo papers, from glossy professional rolls to small matte. Supported paper types include single sheets of letter, legal, A4, and A6; plus 4 by 6 inches, 5 by 7 inches, 8 by 10 inches, and much more. You have your choice of connections--either parallel or USB--and the 890 is compatible with both Macintosh and PC. There is a one-year warranty on parts and labor, and Epson includes instant exchange service for that year at no additional cost. Features Reviews (39)
Paper is key, though. You need to use the premium glossy photo paper to get the prints that are nearly indistinguishable from the real thing. On matte photo paper, the results are more like a poster, still excellent by inkjet standards. You only get one sheet of each to start with, they should provide more. They also provided a feed-in roll so you can print a batch, but I probably won't use that feature. Source is key, too, if you have crummy pictures, they'll look crummy when printed. I have 2.2 megapixel photos that blow up to almost 8x10 no problem. Black and white mode is ... well, black and white. Nothing special on that front. It will also _devour_ ink. Expect maybe 25-35 8x10s before you'll be needing a new color cartridge. It's still a deal compared to lab prices. I didn't deduct for that because you don't deserve this kind of output at the price it sells for. I wasn't interested in speed, so I didn't mind that the unit takes awhile to warm up and doesn't break any speed records in either color or B/W mode. Setup was easy, I did have one temporary glitch, and the software is pretty solid (WinNT).
Well, let me tell you - the Photo 890 simply blows the competition away! The print quality on Epson Glossy Photo paper is nothing short of STUNNING! Even under light mangification it is impossible to see the dots. Skin tones and faces have a continuous tone not possible with other printers. And print speed, while not stunning, is perfectly acceptable considering the quality. As others have noted, Epson generally uses 2 ink cartridges. Because all 5 colors are in one cartridge (black is the other cartridge), if you run out of one color you must replace the entire cartridge. Subjectively, the cartridges seem to last about twice as long as my older Epson, but they're still not [inexpensive]. On the other hand, the Photo 890 has a roll paper option that allows you to print edge-to-edge without margins. This is a SIGNIFICANT cost savings which I believe somewhat balances the higher ink cost. As an added bonus, you can barely hear this printer printing (something I could NOT say about my previous Epson).

PageManager, Epson TWAIN Pro, TWAIN Pro Network, and Scan Server. --Megan Dugan Features Reviews (3)
At 400 dpi it is fast (40 seconds for 14-bit greyscale 11"x14" scan) and very quiet. I added a SCSI hard drive to get the 50 MB TIF files to save to disk on my NT system in 2 seconds. The sample size (14-bit B&W or 42-bit Color), resolution and Dmax are unmatched until you spend over $10,000. Add the Epson 1280 printer for the best photo output.
The Epson TWAIN software handles USM and de-screening like some of the higher-end scanners, but it lacks precise controls for those features. Batch scanning is one of the strengths of this scanner, with multiple marquee selection as easy as click and drag, and one-button batch scanning. This scanner offers one-button capture(Windows only), network scanning and an Automatic Document Feeder option, but we have not explored those options in our workflow. ... Read more

It's not the speediest printer in the world, but then I didn't expect it to be. If your like me, you won't bother to print on the "fast" setting much, when you get used to the primo quality of the "quality" setting. The other thing I like is that it's really not that big of a printer considering it will print 13x19 paper. I had expected it to be much larger, but it fits pretty nicely in the exact spot my laser printer occupied. Also, despite being a photo printer, it does text pretty well. I haven't printed out that much text, but the things I have printed on the "quality" setting, have looked pretty good to me. The output I get from my Canon S300 digital elph are also great. I have pics up in my office and everyone is shocked when I tell them it's not an actual photo, but an epson print.
I currently work at a [camera] store with [another kind of printer], one of the best silver-based photo printers on the market. I've shown my customers prints from my Epson 1280, and before I told them, they assumed the [store printer] printed them. The images from this printer are THAT good. That's saying a lot when you consider you're comparing a $xxx.xx printer to something that costs several hundred thousand dollars! Pluses: Fine, fine resolution. The printer is relatively fast at 1440dpi mode, VERY fast at 720dpi mode. 2880 mode takes a while for enlargements, but that's to be expected. I like the fact that the printer uses 6 color inks to get a better range of tones. And of course, the ability to print borderless prints up to 13" wide is great. Minuses: Nothing I can think of that really matters. The only minus I can think of is that it takes up a lot of room on my desk, but it's worth it. Nobody sells the printer cartridges for this printer locally because nobody sells this printer locally, and the color cartridge is specific to this printer and the 1270. Luckily Amazon sells them at a good price. I highly recommend this printer!
The prints have been nothing short of outstanding. The premium glossy paper is unbelievable in print quality. However, I prefer the heavy weight mat paper due to lower cost. Images are outstanding and the paper is much lower in cost. As for the printer, I have gone through five color ink cartridges with no problems. Sold black areas are black with no banding. This is one of my quality tests of a printer. Banding is unacceptable. The Epson passes with flying colors with an occasional need to use the automatic nozzle cleaning utility. I print 10 by 15 inch prints and measured an output of 22 prints per color cartridge, with about half of the back cartridge being used. This is more surface area of printing than my older model 1520 (which was also nice but not nearly as good). Bottom line is that I see no way to improve this printer.

Cons: The bulb is rated for 1440 hours of use before it supposedly explodes, discharging toxic mercury vapor into your viewing area. I don't like the price tag of the bulb either... for a projector bulb is simply outrageous! And if you use your projector like I do, expect to replace it every year (and you thought ink-jets were expensive to operate). My advice: wait for other companies to release 'consumer-priced' projectors and PRAY that the replacement bulbs will be more economical. *OR* buy yourself a []CRT projector, problem solved! 3-)...
