Excellent little labeler
After researching home/office label makers on Amazon.com, I narrowed my selections to DYMO Labelmanager 100+ and DYMO Letratag. It was VERY useful to be able to download the manuals and compare their features and then choose those most important to my needs. I chose Labelmanager 100+ because of the keyboard (like a miniature typewriter) and the variety of typesetting options which are easily programed and rememberable. The owner's manual did not have illustrations of the options, so I made a cheat sheet, which helped familiarize me with operating it comfortably. (I highly recommend doing this.) No OS X software
We currently have three Dymo Turbo 330 labelers running in our all Mac OS X office. Can't believe Dymo is dragging its feet on releasing an OS X version of their labeling software. Having to run in Classic mode is not my idea of current technology. Other than this one point, a quality product that serves us well.

Great Label Printer
I recently purchased the Dymo Label 300 printer to work with my new WinXP Home Edition computer. I had to wait till new drivers were released on Dymo's website to get the printer to work. The associated software is excellent giving me great functionality.

The associated software that attaches to both Word 2002 and Outlook 2002 did not work as advertised. Contact with tech support led me in the right direction and with some down home tweaking I did finally get it to work as advertised.

The labels for this printer are readily available at nationwide stores or from Amazon (...)

Why buy anything else
It not only makes labels from Word and other MicroSoft programs, it makes labels as a stand-alone feature. nothing works more transparently. We own 5 at our office.

A very Simple and Needed Product
The product does exactly what it says it is going to do, it simplifies making those damm labels for all your outgoing mail. My law firm finds it says time by not having to repeat address entries for our mailings. It saves money by not burning out our ink cartridges on our printer. DYMO's LabelManager 100 is an easy-to-use label maker that's ideal for home or office use. It's small enough to fit nicely on a desk or in two hands, but large enough that the keys are spaced far apart for comfortable typing. It supports two tape sizes, 0.375 and 0.5 inches, making it an excellent choice for labeling files, computer disks, and other office supplies. It employs a QWERTY-style keypad and scrollable eight-character LCD and makes creating labels quickly a simple task. Plus, the entire kit fits in an included hard black case for transporting, with room for backup batteries and additional tape cartridges.

Setup was quick and simple, right out of the box. The LabelManager 115 Kit comes with a 0.5-inch black-on-white tape, six AA batteries for portable use, and an AC adapter. We accessed the battery and tape compartments on the back, and the tape and ink (entirely self-contained in one cartridge) snapped easily into place.

All the keys are arranged on the face for simple access and are clearly labeled and color-coded. Special options such as outline, italic, and box are grouped. Anyone familiar with a computer keyboard will have no problem typing, and even novices should find the interface easy to get used to. A shift key provides many buttons with dual functions, as well as capitalizing letters and accessing standard punctuation characters above the numbers. A caps-lock button is useful for large labels. The backspace and clear buttons are necessary for making corrections and also because the LabelManager 100 does not reset after printing. Manual left/right scroll buttons add characters to any location in a label. Adjustable effects include six character sizes, vertical printing, box/underline, outline, and italics. You can apply multiple effects simultaneously, but every effect applies to the entire label, so single words within a sentence cannot have individual effects applied to them.

In our tests, creating labels was as quick and painless as setup. However, one drawback we experienced was in using the special symbols. A menu-system is used with approximately eight special symbols assigned to each letter A through L. This required us to sift through 12 submenus looking for the character we wanted. The absence of a back button for returning to the previous menu also aggravated this problem. Additionally, some of the lower menus have redundant symbols. However, this system does provide ample symbols, including parentheses, arrows, and accented characters.

Considering the size of the unit, the eight-character LCD should have been larger, but it did an adequate job of letting us preview our labels. The scroll buttons let us manually look back over our labels and make adjustments, and a PREVIEW button automatically scrolled the entire label across the screen for quick perusal.

Pressing the large orange PRINT button completed the labeling process, resulting in a quick response and well-defined labels. While not a speed demon, it did print immediately and at a consistent speed. All text, including the smallest fonts, came out sharp and easy to read. Outline and italic effects did not warp the text, though the LabelManager did not have the resolution to print complete outlines of the smallest fonts. A manual, push-button razor cut our centered label with a perfectly straight line.

The LabelManager 100 prints six text sizes, and you can set a label length to which the unit will print (it automatically adjusts the spacing between letters). It can also print two lines on one label to conserve space, and print up to 99 copies of the same label. (Note that the razor can't be used to separate the labels when printing copies. However, the unit does print small markers between each label for even separation with scissors.)

Overall, the LabelManager 100 is well designed, ideal for labeling files and folders at home or in the office. It's quick and easy to set up and small enough to carry in one hand or to leave on a desk without using much space. It prints smooth, easy-to-read, self-adhesive labels. Despite the symbol-selection problem and the small LCD, the excellent keypad layout and good printing options and quality make the DYMO LabelManager 100 an excellent value. --Matt Deffer

I absolutely love mine. Works great and is portable!

Overpriced for capabilities
Dymo's LetraTag series is cheaper, smaller and has similar capabilities. But for the substantial rebate, this item would be grossly overpriced.

Kind of cheezy, get the Brother PT-1750 instead.
I got this because there was a rebate that made it end up costing (very little). I already had the Brother PT-1750 but at less (money) I figured if nothing else I could give it to the kids. Great convenience
If you need to print a lot of mailing labels, then look no further.The dymo EL60 is great for doing this type of stuff.The included software works seamlessly to print within a moments notice.No jammed labels, running out of ink/toner, or any of that silly stuff you would have to experience with a traditional label printing job.

The only negative is the relatively low resolution output. i.e. you can't print a digitized image because it will look pretty terrible.However, dymo has a newer model that has increased resolution to solve the problem.

Dymo handy but not network-ready
A labelwriter like the Dymo is very handy to have and easy to use.One word of caution: if you want to connect your Dymo directly to a network through a device such as the HP Jetdirect, you have to purchase a separate parallel cable adaptor.This is sold by Dymo for just under $100!You can obviously make your Dymo available to other network users as a shared local printer through one of the computers, but it sure would be nice if the parallel cable would be included.

Stellar
These simple label printers deserve more of a following. They're easy to set up and perform as advertised.I use mine for labeling files, CDs, printing ID tags and a dozen other uses.I only use sheets oflabels for large mailings. While these label makers are versatile and capable, there are a few drawbacks.The included software could be more capable.And because these labels are thermally printed, they can't be used for long periods where they will be exposed to heat or the sun.My wife, for instance, uses the large shipping labels to stick on her car dash near her cell phone.She prints the shortcut codes for commonly called numbers on these labels.After about two months, the labels turn brown and fade because of the effects of the sun and heat in the closed car.Even with those shortcomings, these labelmakers deserve a 5-star rating because of their all-around usefulness.One additional note.

Oh, so simple!
The EL60 is so easy to set up that it's fun! Labels print out very fast and look great. The software comes with many great templates and even allows you to design your own. The integration with Word & Outlook works amazingly well and the label prices compare well with laser/ink jet sheet labels.

Changing labels takes just a few seconds and is easy to do. Quick tip: turn the printer off when you drop in a new roll. You can press the platen release and manually feed the label into place instead of allowing it to automatically feed the label for you. This will keep you from wasting a label every time you swap them!

I haven't been this impressed with a PC product in years. You have to get it - now!

Great Product but One Small Complaint
This is a great product for creating labels, especially if you are doing e-stamps via Stamps.com or eStamp.com.It works with many kinds of label and I never had a problem with it.

I am addicted!
Do you love printing one label at a time when mailing letters or paying bills. How about printing out a message to place on the back of a letter just for fun. Well, I use my LabelWriter daily. You can buy a variety of labels...but guess what...you NEVER need to buy ink. Really!

Once I installed the software, I was so pleased to see the little Dymo icon in Microsoft Word and in my Outlook program. It is most useful in Outlook as you will already have all your addresses stored and ready to go. Simply select the item and print, it is that simple.

Now, when you are working in Microsoft Word, you can highlight the address in a letter and click print and again...you can make one label. I am addicted to this computer essential.

Remember how much fun it was to play with those old hand-crank Dymo labelers? Well, the fancy new Letratag is even cooler. About the size of a walkie-talkie, this labeler is lightweight, easy to use, and has a bunch of label-tape options.

Printing a simple label takes just a few seconds, while fiddling with symbols and type styles will take you a bit longer. The instruction sheet lays it out clearly, and you'll be adding shaded boxes, condensed print, and happy faces to your labels with no trouble. Possibilities for decoration include seven different borders, four text sizes, international characters, and simple graphics such as stars and musical notes.

The built-in label cutter slices through plastic labels with no problem, and the blade is well protected from little fingers, making it safe for children to use. Labels are extremely durable, much more so than the thick plastic of yesteryear, and the metallic tape is actually weather proof. One downside is that there's no adapter; the Letratag only operates on batteries. However, the labeler automatically shuts off after two minutes of non-use--a battery-saving plus.

For office or retail use, it's a little disappointing that the label tape comes in only one width--0.5 inches can be a bit too small for some purposes. Also, while the letter size is great for labeling file folders, envelopes, or desktop containers, you'll need to use the "big caps" mode to be able to read labels on larger storage boxes or shelving units. A super-handy, high-quality gadget
I cannot say enough about this product. Recently I went to Staples and tried out the competing but much more expensive Brother P-Touch series, and I like the Letratag way better! The Letratag's tapes are cheaper, seem more durable, the print looks great, and I think the build quality and tape cartridge design of the Letratag is better than the $50 and $70 P-Touch's.

The Brother P-Touch has a slightly more convenient typewriter-like keyboard layout, and has an AC adaptor accessory to plug it into the wall, so if you're going to use a labelmaker all day, it's a better choice. But for home and home office use, the Letratag turns scribbles on Post-it notes and file folders into professional-looking and durable labels.

I got the white plastic, white paper, yellow plastic, and silver metallic lables (all with black printing), and they are all proving useful. My particular Letratag came with a yellow "smiley face" cartridge (don't know if that's still offered), which is good for writing little romantic labels for your sweetheart and for "fun-looking" labels for kids.

I calculate the average cost of a 2" label at about $0.07, not counting replacing the batteries (6 AA, not included; I don't know how long they last yet).

Fun with labels
Four and a half stars, really. The Dymo LetraTag is fun and easy to use! It does a few different fonts, vertical strips, two-line labels, and symbols. You'll actually want to go through and organize your filing cabinet. The only thing I don't like is the cheapo paper label tape -- OK for sticking to paper items (like file folders) but it doesn't work well on plastic (like VHS cassettes.) Splurge and get the more expensive plastic tape if you want a little more versatility.

Great Product
This is labeling the way it should be. Nice price on a quality product. Not like the old labelmakers that made impressions on plastic tape, this product can print on a variety of tape (available separately) - paper, plastic or metalic. The keyboard is a little clumsy, but for under [money] I can live with it. I use it for all kinds of labels.

Great teacher tool!
I am a music teacher who has thousands of resources. Some of these resources are lent to students and colleagues. The Dymo LetraTag is a great way of labeling my stuff to make sure that it gets returned to me!! The labels that this machine uses adhere better than the labels from my Casio labeler or my wife's Brother labeler. The batteries last much longer with this machine as well. An investment that is well worth the price.

Good multi-purpose label machine
I use my machine to label shelves, leftovers, boxes and anything I lend/leave out that I want returned. I've only used the plastic labels and they stick wonderfully. If you buy one, be sure to order some plain plastic labels - my unit came with one roll of happy face background tape, which is very distracting for everyday use. I only wish there were an easier way to select the special characters - I have to keep the instructions handy to locate the special codes to print symbols. ... Read more
