1-0 out of 5 stars It will crash your sytem...
I bought this IEEE 1394 card soon after I got a brand new computer. My computer was operating fine until this component crashed my system everytime I use any type of multimedia. It has caused me a lot of headache and agony. Not even XP OS can tell you what crash your system. Until I removed this card, everything was running the way it supposed to be. 5-0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised
My digital photo needs are limited. I want to send snapshots to grandparents and take pictures for eBay. I've tried a couple near $100 digital cameras and they were close to worthless, especially for closeups of products, and both were returned. Recently we bought a Sharp ViewCam and so I thought I'd try a Video Capture product. Dazzle advertised just what I wanted -- and, a surprise in today's market, it actually did what its makers advertised it would do! I was surprised at how clear my stills were -- more than adequate for my purposes. Actually, the quality is not that bad -- no one will mistake me for Ansel Adams, but considering I'm using a video tape to digital translation I'm very happy with the close-up detail. I've got some pretty pictures of my kids on the computer now. I have tried a couple short videos and wouldn't suggest this product if that is your main object. I was looking for a digital still camera substitute and I'm very happy with my choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really well for myself on 366mhz celeron
I had taken vacation cam shots, had expected some degredation on the dubbing. But for the price relative to the high end 249.00 slotted product it's fun and adequate when sending "novel" motion video e-mails. Editing doesn't really ever grab me on computers anyway--too laborious.

2-0 out of 5 stars OK for Pictures, not video
This device works with Windows 98 (Windows ME with a download from the manufacturer's web site). Macintosh is also supported. It can only capture 160x120 mpeg video on Windows. Not what you want to digitize your video collection. Still, works well enough for the occasional video email. I found the software rather inflexible, and I wonder why they support a higher capture rate on Mac than on Windows.

1-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't get it to work either - very disappointed
This product truly is easy to install, but then the database wouldn't open. I've tried contacting their tech support, but with no success so this product is going back to the store - I'm not wasting any more time on emails or money on long-distance calls. btw, I got the installation tested at the store and it did work there, so judging from these reviews there's obviously something with the product that's making it incompatible with certain computers. I personally wouldn't buy this online (sorry Amazon) because of the chance of it not working.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cool Little Box For the Money
While I encountered a couple problems when trying to install and use this product, many of the problem were a result of outside factors.

I happened to get a poorly pressed installation CD, which I had to return to the store to exchange.

I found that the capture software was crashing on me every now and again, but discovered that my motherboard was sharing the USB IRQ with another device. (Unfortunately, the design of my motherboard does not allow me to assign a unique IRQ to my USB interface, so I had to return this product.)

However, I was able to perform several hundred still captures at the maximum resolution of 1600 by 1200 pixels and save them to Photoshop 3.0 files--a nice feature, but would be nice if you could save in Photoshop 5.5 format.

In my opinion, this product was meant for still captures. The stills look good for a product under $100. If you wish to capture low-res video, you can do that as well. But if high-quality motion video capture is the primary function you're looking for, I would go for a different product.

Another nice feature of this product is that it draws its power from the USB controller. No external wall-wart power supply required. Just the USB cable. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Link for Lexar firmware update please
I am also having trouble in reading Lexar 128MB memory stick. On Dazzle / Zio website I was not able to get firmware update. I am using Windows 2000 so can somebody post a link to firmware update on zio's website>

4-0 out of 5 stars Problems with Lexar Media have been resolved...
I encountered the same problems with a Lexar 128MB memory stick that have been mentioned by other reviewers. I discovered that dazzle has a firmware update for this reader available on their website. I downloaded, installed and ran the firmware updater and have had no problems with the reader since.

There's not much more to say. I wish the cord was about 2 feet longer. I have my USB hub on the floor, and the cord is barely long enough to reach --- and the reader is at the back of the desk. If it was a bit longer, I'd be able to pull it closer to the keyboard when I'm using it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with Lexar media
The Dazzle reader doesn't work with my 128MB lexar stick. But it works fine with my 128MB sony stick and my 128MB sandisk stick. The lexar stick works fine in my camera and in my hp officejet's reader. I'd stay away from this reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great reader/writer
I have a 128MB Sandisk memory stick and a 32MB Sony stick, and I got this Dazzle memory stick reader because it was inexpensive and seemed to do what I needed to do.
I just inserted the CD that came with it and installed the drivers on Windows XP. Popped the stick reader in the USB port, and voila! my computer immediately recognized it and it was ready to go.
It had NO problem reading either the Sony or the SanDisk memory sticks at all. I could also delete and write to the stick without any difficulty.
To all the Lexar stick owners, I have to say that maybe it's true you are having problems, because I don't have the Lexar stick and can't vouch for it. But if Sony and SanDisk work fine, there maybe some flaw in the Lexar stick somewhere or at worst Dazzle reader is just incompatible with it.

I love this product for the ease of use, price and convenience. I don't ever plug in my Sony F707 camera into the USB port, just take the memory stick and put it into the reader and it's ready to go.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lexar and Dazzle will not dance together
If you own a Lexar Memory Stick, do not buy this product. The reader does not work with Lexar media. It sounds absurd that two products subscribing to the same specifications created by Sony do not work together, but they do not.

I received the same response that this may someday be fixed. I am not holding my breath though. I purchased a Sony reader and it works fine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done. Fast.
While it might be tempting to go for a cheaper device, I would advice to read its reviews (if available). This guy never failed on me. It not only looks cool, it gets the job done. I've used it with Win98 and now WinXP(pro). It also seems to be very fast compared to what friends and colleagues have told me how long it takes them to download images. The only alternative I would consider is the USB 2.0 version of the device from the same manufacturer. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not ready for prime time
After hours of frustration, I finally found this paragraph I am pasting directly from dazzle's web site...

Currently DVD Complete cannot capture Audio and Video using the DCS 200, DVC 100, DVC 150,or DVC 80. We are aware of this issue and are working towards and update for DVD Complete that will allow capture directly into the DVD Complete software.

...At least the card reader part still works, albeit a very expensive card reader!

4-0 out of 5 stars It works as I have expected
After looking at all the reviews given here and on other sites, I still decided to give this system a try. I have no problem installing the hardware. For the software, I only installed MovieStar 5 and downloaded the patch from Dazzle. They all worked great on my Windows ME and Windows XP systems. May be I am lucky, it doesn't have the problems people mentioned using this system. The video captured is good without lost frames and the audio is acceptable although the volume is a bit low. I used a third party software to edit my movies (that means I only use Dazzle's included software to capture and output to valid format) and I used Nero to burn VCDs out of the movies.

1-0 out of 5 stars Software problems
Even after installing the last version (2.1.5.0 November 2002) of Movie Star 5 the software that comes with Station 200 I had a major struggle to make a home movie of 5 minutes duration. Retrieving a saved project with "centered" titles and an intact time line was impossible.

1-0 out of 5 stars USB Video capture sucks
Even if you manage to get the software run,..., usb just can't keep up, I always get the video with lots of drop frames and audio glitches, a PCI capture board is a much better choice.

1-0 out of 5 stars really bad softwares
all of the softwares needed fixeds/upgrades.
even after all the downloads/upgraded,
softwares still not totally fixed. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad overall product
Well it's pretty obvious "A proud Dazzle owner" probably works for Dazzle or some affiliated company. Judging by the language alone, you can tell its more of an advertisement than a casual customer review. This is simply a bad product. Dazzle made bad capturing devices in the past, and still does now. This product is buggy, prone to crashes, and arbitrarily (if ever) works.

I'm a network admin and I would consider myself pretty technically competant, and still had one helluva time getting this product to operate properly. Its not that the installation process is troublesome, on the contrary - the installation went fine but still it would work for moments then stop. 75% of the time it would not capture, it would lock up and crash. Within the 25% of the time that it worked - the audio would go mute after a minute, the audio would go out of sync, or it would stop capturing at an random point.

Just to give this product a chance, i tested this on all 3 of my machines at home. The OS of the machines are XP, ME, and 2k. All machines over 2ghz, 512ram, and with 7200rpm ide drives or scsi ultrastar 10k drives. 3 different machines with different video cards and OS's. Same problems with this product on all machines. Its a piece of crap, save your time and the 15% restocking fee.

4-0 out of 5 stars Simple and easy to use. Put home video on CD or send "Vmail"
Despite the rant from the fellow from Singapore (about the Snazzi - a totally different product) the Dazzle is marvelously easy to use and gives better than average video quality. Read on...
It took me all of 15 minutes to follow the simple directions (including pictures) to hook up the Dazzle and begin capturing video to my hard drive.
The first time around I used the "default" settings and the results were extremely gratifying. Less than an hour after opening the box I was sending off an email to my parents (the proud grandparents) with a video attachment that warmed their hearts. It truly was a snap.
Then I started playing around with the settings and found that I could produce some pretty hi-quality video that I have since used in a CD presentation. The comments I got after the presentation were: "How'd you get that video in their?" and "Tell me where you got that Dazzle!"
Keep in mind that (1) capturing video requires a fairly strong machine (they say a Pentium 133 is minimum, but I'm not sure that would be enough computer) and (2) MPEG video takes up alot of room on your hard drive and takes a long time to send over the internet. (A 7 second clip of video took 4 minutes to download as an email attachment.) But grandma says, "It was worth every second! Send me more!"

1-0 out of 5 stars Frustrated with snazzi
I bought this product thinking that I would be *finally* able to get some sort of order to my hours of video tapes. What I was looking for in Snazzi was simple. I wanted: 1) Grab a chunk of tape (say 30 min. at a time) 2) Cut out unwanted parts easily & 3) write back on another tape

Unfortunately, as I found out, using Snazzi for above purpose is incredibly (and unnecessarily, IMO) complicated due to bad user interface.

Below are some highlights from my story of frustrating dealings with the product. I and my wife (both of us work in IT) consumed one entired Sunday and came to the conclusion that it is not for us.

I will just list below a couple of experiences.

1) For some reason (!), the audio was not getting grabbed from my camcorder. To compound our misery, we found that the user manual states 'when using camcorder as video input, the audio is off to avoid feedback' or some such mish-mosh. Well, we fiddled around with various wizards and lizards, changing the video sources and audio sources, till at the end we figured out that what we needed as our 'template' was Audio/Video Clip and not a video clip - which was the default set!!! I am sure Dazzle has lots of marketing surveys to support that people usually have just video clips and no audio to go with it. Well, I wanted to make movie of my babie's first babbling and audio was *very* important to me. As I mentioned earlier, the off-hand remark in the manual did not help either.

2) You cannot 'split' a clip easily if you have already split it. e.g. What I want to do is just to grab off 30 minutes of video and then split it 30 ways - 1 minute clip each - and *then* fine tune the clips by hand. There is no way in dazzle where you can do this. You have to split the clips by hand.

3) On the same note as above, you cannot mark more than 1 IN and OUT points on 1 clip. IMO, it would be *much* easier for a user if you could just play the whole 30 minutes which you grabbed and go on marking IN/OUT IN/OUT so that you just keep the parts that you want. You cannot do this in Dazzle Snazzi. You will have to split the 30 minutes *by hand* and mark IN/OUT on each one.

Summary: Not a *easy* product to use. I have given up on it. I have not even tested the quality of video out due to the hassles mentioned above. (The quality appears to be a problem going from images that come up on screen). I am going back to my usual method of play/stop/record start/play/record stop/ff/rew method of editing the tapes.

This product *might* be useful to you if you are looking for 1) Making a clip of exact duration - preferably a very small duration, say 1 minute.

But I guess there are many cheaper products available that will help you do this. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The bundle software (onDVD) is an old version
The bundled software "onDVD" is an old version (v1.5), which does not include audio function in it's photo slideshow VCD burner. According to it's website product introduction, it should include audio and photo edit function.

1-0 out of 5 stars frustrating dvd creation station
I am so frustrated using this product.First of all, I had to go online to update the software then the movie software would freeze up on me. The quality of transfering the video tapes to dvd was terrible. It was just a big waste of money.I even tried to ask for help...got nowhere...the support was just not there. After working on it for over ten hours, I learned my lesson and that is to read reviews and opinions of products from customers before purchasing new items.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does the job but not as well as I would have liked.
I bought the unit to help me convert about 20 years of VHS home movies to DVD. Although the unit can convert analog to mpeg2 on the fly the quality is not as good as just bringing in digital video and compressing it with cheap software. Many of the menus run very slow and a preview box seems to have sound with no video. When I hit the internet help link I receive a message that that site is no longer there. The hardware seems to work well for bringing in analog signals to digital thru USB but the software could use some work. I was able to do the software upgrades online.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dazzle Creation Station 200 USB
Installation of this device was easy and it works well. However, picture captured by computer is much lighter than that on my camcorder. Am I using it wrongly or this is all that the device can do?
Dazzle talks about free service which is a joke. When you call machine tells you to call another number where you can get service for a fee.For free service, they let you hang on forever.I called and held phone for ten minutes without an answer.
Try it at you own risk. ... Read more
