5-0 out of 5 stars Does It REALLY REALLY matter!
I gave it 5 stars because I don't own it an wanted to be fair, but I do own cabletogo 2m dvi cable and it's a spectacular picture I have on my toshiba 30hf83 30" hdtv which is slightly better than the component I had hooked up earlier. My point is the cabletogo I believe is under $15dls and has a higher data transmission rate which I believe is above 9mbps dual link and the monster above 5mbps,so it's just something to think about, why waste $99dls.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Cable but I cannot use it now!!
I have a fairly new HDTV system I bought back in January. I have a JVC 56" rear projection HDTV and am getting my HDTV source from Insight Cable through a Motorola HDTV receiver. I experimented with component video connections when I first bought the TV but later tried the Monster Cable DVI400. Wow what a difference! DVI is the ONLY way to hook up HDTV in my opinion. The colors are brighter and pictures are sharper. Like all Monster Cable products this is made of very high quality materials and it looks nice too. I cannot believe some of the notes I have seen on the internet from people that feel the component video connection is better. The quality of the DVI connection is so superior that my cable company has decided to turn off the DVI output on my cable box. They claim the quality is so good that pirates could make copies of movies through the connection! They claim that this is a new FCC law even!

2-0 out of 5 stars does it really matter?
it is a cable for transferring digital signal... in the digital world, the smallest bit of information is either 0 or 1. in terms of electricity, it is like, either 0 volt or 5 volt. So unless the cable is so lousy that the device cannot tell 0 volt from 5 volt, in which case a gold or platinum plated digital cable is not going to do any good. it either works or doesn't work. there is no "in between".

this is similar to DTV or HDTV -- either you get the picture or you don't. If you do, it is going to be prestine. If you don't, then there is no picture at all. Note that in this case, the analog (non-digital) portion of equipment still makes a difference, such as the antenna or the speaker cable that is non-digital.

so a [$$$$$] DVI cable shouldn't make any difference than a [$$] one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Diminishing returns?
I bought this MonsterCable DVI cable to connect my DVD player to my new HD TV. I was certainly impressed with the image quality and the sturdiness of the cable, though honestly I found the connector pins a bit finicky.
Soon my HD system grew and I needed a way to better utilize the Sony TV's single DVI input, so I bought a very nice Geffen 4 port remote controlled DVI switch. It came packaged with 4 rather generic 6' DVI cables, which I used to connect the components to the switch, saving the MonsterCable for the switch's output to the TV.
The result was great in all cases. That's when the scientist in me took over. I started swapping cables like mad, and asking any poor soul who happened to be around to identify the best picture. The result? No one, myself included, could discern the least little difference in image quality from cable to cable.
Being that the generic DVI cable is one fourth (!) the price of the brand name, obvious questions about diminishing returns are raised. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars why pay so much?
Here's a little lesson in understanding optical digital cables from "The complete guide to high end audio" (p. 244-5) "Toslink is the low-cost optical interface promoted by mass-market audio manufacturers as an alternative to coaxial connection...the major electronics companies had two good reasons for trying to convert the world to toslink. First, toslink jacks and cables are cheaper than coaxial jacks and cables. Second, toslink conncetion makes it easier for the compoonents to meet FCC requirements for radiated noise. An electrical signal traveling down copper (such as a coax connection) throws off RF (radio frequency) noise that could interfere with radio and television transmission. The FCC will simply ban products that don't meet its criteria for radiated noise. Because toslink sends the signal as light down a plastic fiber, it produces no radiated noise. toslink (opical) is by far the worst interface, both mechanically (the physical connection between cable and jack), electrically (it has the lowest bandwidth), and sonically. Toslink conncetion tends to blur the separation between individual instrument images, adds a layer of grunge over instrumental textures, softens the bass, and doesn't have the same sense of black silence between notes."

Now, the only reason why you would want to get these cables is because you know that factory provided toslink cable is low-quality that is prone to damage (bending and wearing out)and eventualy you will have to replace the cable. You may want these monster cables because they will last a while, and not because they sound better. I gave three stars because I think they are costly and I am not sure they'll actually last 4 times longer than regular cables.

5-0 out of 5 stars 100 to 200
I used the Lightspeed 100 for about a year. Today I got the lightspeed 200 and what a great improvement it has made. The DTS sound on my DVD has improved alot and that is just by my ear. I also added a HT700 clean power outlet to my whole system. My entertainment center is about 11 grand and all I can say is it is now better than ever. Thanks to Monster cable . all my hook ups are also monstercable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Toslink? Same old, same old.... NOT
I bought my home theatre system over 6 months ago, so i would like to think i'm no stranger to dvd technology. I had my system hooked up to my PC, and figured out a way to actually bypass AC-3 dolby digital into my home theatre without any signal loss, whatsoever. so i was happy with using my dvd-rom and my home theatre system, complete with a Television set. well, i got adventurous one night and went out to buy a dvd player. figured i'll be able to use my computer AND use a dvd to watch movies at the same time (hail multitasking). So, i almost always go for the best when i actually do something. people told me NOT to buy a toslink, because it was just too... "extravagant." i BOUGHT it anyway, said i had enough of the same old copper... i hooked it up, christined my dvd player with a ritualistic playing of The Matrix, and the dynamics of my sound had just ... increased somehow. Wierd as it sounds, the signal is digital, so i didn't think there would be any difference. (digital, meaning it was raw data being fed into the decoder, so no matter how i got the data TO the decoder, as long as it got there in one piece.) Figured it out? me? not really. but i can swear by the fact that the dynamics and 5.1 signal of my hometheatre has improved by AT LEAST 10 Fold. I can tell without having to concentrate where the sound is coming from. the signal is stronger, and without any deteriation. HIGHLY Recommended. Toslink RULES. (kinda catchy, Toslink. ;P ) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Optical is the way to go
If you haven't spent a decent amount of money on your sound system, don't buy optical cable. I hear many people complain about how they can't tell the difference between RCA and optical, but when I see what they're using for a receiver and speakers, the problem is obvious. You're stereo system is only as good as its weakest link, and optical cable is intended for high-end stereo equipment. It's that simple. If you're balking at the price you're spending on optical cable, you probably haven't invested enough money into your stereo equipment for it to really make a difference.
That said, if you do decide to go optical, Monster is an easy choice. Although I'm sure they hike up the price a bit on name alone, they do make some of the best audio cable out there, optical or otherwise. I've noticed marked improvement in the sound quality from both my DVD and even MP3 player. If you want to take a chance with a less known brand for a cheaper price, good luck, but I'm willing to spend a little more for quality.

3-0 out of 5 stars Fair enough
Alot of people say that Monster Cable is overrated. True, they are expensive. I use Monster Cable accessories because I know what kind of improvements to expect from them. Often times, the people here who have issues with Monster Cable, or any sort of a/v cable for that matter, often times do not have high performance a/v equipment. While I'm far from one of those theaterphiles who get paid to test new equipment in specific soundrooms, I do know enough to be able to distinguish what I (emphasis on I) sounds/looks better for my specific needs. Bottom line, Monster cables are a step up from the cables you'll receive with your equipment and will be more distinguishable if you have the right components. I use these digital cables because I have surround sound speakers and a Samsung receiver. If you're someone who does not have or plan on using surround sound, then you probably don't want to shell out money for this digital cable.

Monster could sell ice to Eskimos

I do agree that cables make a difference when electronis devices are involved, however a fibre optic cable will not make one iota of difference to the sound quality when compared to another - no questions, full stop.

An illustration of how some people will buy anything is the crazy guy who said his picture improved!

Enough said

1-0 out of 5 stars More Monster hype
"High velocity of propagation for lower time smear"

What does this mean? The light from the source to the destination over this 1 meter cable probably takes 4 to 5 billionths of a second. I would like to know how this time affects anything sonically, as even golden ears who claim they can hear 100 kHz are talking about 10 millionths of a second cycle time.

Light's light - buy the cheapest optical you can find. If it works, it will sound just as good as this overpriced stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great performance, reliable durability, and reasonable price
What more would you want out of an optical cable than the things I mentioned in the subject? This cable has it all!

I'm a big fan of movies, and I enjoy having friends over every now and then to watch movies. Thus I've started having my own home theater about three years ago. I had it all, the huge screen TV, the astounding speakers, an amazing amplifier, a fantastic DVD player, and a GREAT collection of DVDs. It was nice.

But, believe it or not, once I bought this cable I felt that the fun and enjoyment of my home theater increased by folds! The sound quality was the first thing that I noticed! It had increased by an astonishing standard! It is also much more neater than the mess caused by the bunch of cables I was using!

I bought this cable a little over two years ago; And still, up to this day, it is functioning as good as the day I bought it on!

Whenever I buy an electronic device or a PC I always keep my fingers crossed because I always anticipate problems, and most of the times problems do occur. But this cable was one of the few devices that I bought and felt completely satisfied for two years now and still counting.

I highly recommend this cable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Answer Can Be Found At Amazon.com
This is for the gentelman from Houston who has been lost in the world of cables and wishes to return the Monster Cable IDL 100 Coaxial digital cable. Do not return it!! As another reviewer suggested, you run the IDL 100 from your Digital receiver (it will not work if your receiver doesn't have a digital coaxial out put) to your dvd player. You connect the end of the IDL 100 with the arrows into your digital coaxial out put in the back of your reciver and the other end of the cable into your dvd player (NOT your TV) This cable is an audio cable NOT a video. The back of your Sony TV is for video connections: component, analog or S video. Read your owners manual or visit Amazon.com, find your tv model, your dvd model and read thechnical information. You will be surprise how easy it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific Sound Improvement!!
For some time, I had been reluctant to switch to coaxial digital cables. I figured I was getting good sound with the optical cable which I paid [price] for, and why should I spend another [price] for digital coaxial cable. Last week I switched to Monster Cable IDL 100 Interlink Datalink 100 coaxial digital cable and now my optical cable is collecting dust in my garage. The difference in the sound is incredible!!! This Interlink 100 cable eliminated "sound inpurities" and turned it into a much crispier, detailed sound. The bass from the subwoofer is crystal clear and powerful but without the "puffy"/distorted bass. dvd players have both connection options in the back. Some new models have only the digital coaxial option. Buy this Interlink 100 and experience the difference yourself. You will not be sorry you switched. I give this product two thumbs up!!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good connectors and cable... slight sound improvement.
I used this to replace a CommScope 75 ohms coax data cable. Good looking, much better flexibility, but only a little bit sound enhancement. Stereo image a little more defined, and no better fequency extension. Perhaps with a better CD player it'll do the trick.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent digital cable, even if it is a bit overpriced.
In response to the previous negative review from "An electronics fan from Houston, Texas," this is a digital audio interconnect cable. It does not run from your DVD player to your TV. It runs from the digital coaxial audio output jack on the DVD player to a digital audio input on a Dolby Digital/DTS surround sound receiver.

If you don't have a surround sound set-up, you don't need this cable. All of this is covered in your manuals and on the Monster Cable packaging. Don't be afraid to read those manuals.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lost in the cable world
As you know I just bought this cable along with the Panasonic DVD-RV31K as you people suggested. Very unfortunately I have no information either in the cable package nor in the player's manual on HOW OR WHERE TO INSTALL this cable from the palyer to my TV set (Sony KV-32S45). Please guide me where or whom to call for this information; otherwise, I'm going to return this cable to you. Thank you in advance for you help. Happy holidays. ... Read more
