5-0 out of 5 stars Would be Excellent if it had memory expansion
I'm using this product since a month, and it works really fine. It comes with a belt clip and earbuds. The battery life for the TX models are pretty good (>10hrs), and the output quality is also good. I'm using it to record the lectures, but if you want to get a good quality go for a voice recorder only device, still it performs well. You can add files, mp3's WMA's and record sound on the same device and it will work without any problem, The screen is so small but still readable, and the blue backlit LCD is really good. you can resume the song that you are listening after power off and on again, and have several options for shuffle play(folder, all, repeat folder, repeat all).
Pros: Reversible LCD Menus, Blue Backlit LCD, USB Stick(no need for extra cable), Voice recording capability, Jog Dial button for easy skip, and navigation in menus.
Cons: Not expandable, Voice recoring quality might be better.

4-0 out of 5 stars great little player
I've had this mp3 player for a few months now, and I am extremely happy with it.

Pros:
- Very small and lightweight
- No cables or software necessary
- Easy to load; you just drag and drop
- Easy menu navigation with intuitive GUI
- Has all the necessary features (random, repeat, set it to skip certain folders, etc)
- Doubles as a flash drive
- Arm strap and/or belt clip are great when you're on the move

Cons:
- Wide design is hard to get into the USB port on my HP at work (fits perfectly fine in my Dell at home)

Overall it is a wonderful product and I am very happy with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative Labs Muvo TX 256 MB MP3 Player
This is a brilliant worck of machinary, and anyone who could afford to buy this peice of equipment is very lucky, and should use ot to its highest extent.
Also, don't pollute the earth, recycle and you may save our planet.

5-0 out of 5 stars AAA Battery, EXCELLENT!!!!
What makes this player so great is what it DOESN'T come with. No charger, no cradle, no special cables, just one AAA battery and you're good to go. That means if you are carrying this with you a lot, and you run out of power, all you have to find is another AAA battery and you are running again.

Also, there is no special software, I just plugged it in to my PC, and it was recognized as a removable drive, then it was all drag and drop. I can even put folders of songs on it to make collections of music.

Every other player I've looked at requires some special lithium battery, or charger stand to work, I am amazed that someone finally designed a player that is so simple, and works so well. If it were possible to give this 6 stars, I would!

4-0 out of 5 stars I've bought others as gifts
Super easy, takes 4 - 5 standard CDs. Love the drag and drop and how it is essentially a memory stick that plays music files.
Cons: kind of wanky menu system but easy after a bit. The alphabetical ordering of song play is bothersome but there are ways around that too. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Adequate for a Traveling Camera
I got this unit for use on a laptop. Something small, portable and easy to use. To that end it does it job. Setting, getting it clipped to the LCD screen, getting it positioned right is all easy enough. The Field of View is adequate for likely use.

The image quality on the other hand is not as great as others I have used (Logitech 4000 and Isight). The image is somewhat dark and grainy but still passable. The edges are not very well focused at all.

You should also note that there is no microphone either. You'll either need to shout at your laptop or get an external mic.

Installation and configuration was pretty much by the book on my windows 2000 Dell Latitude LS. No real surprises or problems.

As long as all you plan on being is a talking head and you need something fast and light this little guy will do the job. But if you want to do more than that your better off with something a bit bigger.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor image quality
On the plus side, camera is tiny, and the spring loaded clip works well with notebook PCs. This makes it good for traveling.

On to the negatives... Image quality is very poor, espeically in medium to low light. Pictures are very grainy and even with a 60 watt lamp in the room, still seemed underexposed. Software controls were not as easy to figure out as one would expect.

I gave it a low rating, because I really think that image quality is the most important factor. Design is great - i only wish image quality was better.

3-0 out of 5 stars Portable, easy to use but quality is subpar
If you are strictly looking for a notebook/laptop webcam that only requires the minimum standards as far as quality goes, this may be your choice. I was not happy with the quality at all. Low lighting (zero lux +) gives slower fps (frames per second) and terrible resolution.

Pros:
Small and nice design
Install is easy though the program makes you go through hoops just to change some simple settings
Will work with decent quality with decent lighting.

Cons:
Just like any 'cheapie' webcam, the quality is par to sub-par as far as quality goes.
For $40 bucks, I think you may get better quality from other webcams. The reason why it costs more is because of its size.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great webcam for travelers
great design, small, but the quality is not the best.
I'll like it because is really small and you can tke it with you everywhere. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome value.... Can't beat the price and features...
I was going to pick up the regular Audigy 2 for about fifteen to twenty dollars less but when I looked at the bundle that came with this it was impossible to turn down.

I received the games (all full versions as indicated). The training tutorials on the game CDs are pretty good, which was a relief because as expected no manuals for the games.

Picked this up with a T7700 sound system and Far Cry (awesome game) if you have a very solid PC to run it... I am playing it at max settings with my new Geforce 6800 OC and the graphics are simply amazing.

By picking up the sound card, T7700 speakers and Far Cry I also get fifty later to spend on Doom 3 and a fifteen dollar rebate on the T7700 speakers...

Can't beat this deal and the whole package is a very solid deal for high quality sound...

4-0 out of 5 stars good solid card though I did not get Jedi Academy
I have had little compatiblity problems with this card on games. Of course I have a top of the line computer from Falcon that is tweeked to perfection. On my other PC with the Audigy 2 I noticed that my 6.1 setting would revert to the primative 2.0 setting in some games, but that is no longer a problem with this card using the 6.1 speaker setting. I have not tried 7.1 yet as I am still raising funds for the Gigaworks speakers(aka robbing banks, bashing the heads of stupid rich people, steeling corperate info, ect.;).
This card does not come with Jedi Academy as the other reviewer said, however. I have been wanting that game and only wish it did! The only complaint I have with this card is that it does little to position sounds properly in some games. I cannot get the speech to come through the center speaker only other sounds but that is the game's fault I think. If you have EAX 3 on a game it will not position sound accurately, you must have an EAX 4 compatible game. Knights of the Old Republic does not position speech through the center channel for instance. My old card(Audigy 2) positioned sound perfectly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great deal! Great card!
This card includes 5 full version games (all prices are amazon.com prices as of 4/8/04)
1. Halo ($43.99)
2. Star Wars : Jedi Academy ($44.99)
3. Splinter Cell ($29.99)
4. Rainbow Six 3 : Ravenshield ($19.99)
5. Tomb Raider : Angel of Darkness ($19.99)

Excellent product from creative this card support from 2.1 to 7.1 channels speaker systems and have ability to decode dolby digital signal for watching DVD movies one option i like most in card is audio cleanup believe it this will solve your many problems like pops sounds hiss either highor low the SB Audigy 2 can remove it This card has ulta reallistic sound quality . I suggest to use some speaker sets that works well in my thinking

1. Altec lansing MX5021 THX 2.1
2. Logitech Z-680 5.1

2-0 out of 5 stars good hardware, bad software
i bought this card because i have a dell laptop which has either a poor sound card, or its wiring is poorly shielded, resulting in noticable interference when listening. the audigy2 external sound card solves this problem--the sound is clear, crisp, and has no noticable interference. i have several issues with the software however. first off, once you'll install the software on your computer you'll have to download a plethora of software updates and fixes from creative's site. secondly, the software is poorly integrated with the hardware--on numerous occasions the software could not detect the sound card, and the 'diagnostic' utility that comes with it advises to reinstall the software, rather than fix the problem; geez, thanks. thirdly, often i had to manually shut-off my laptop because windows could not shutdown a background process--i never had this problem before installing this card. fourthly, sometimes the card is detected by the system, and sometimes it is not (this could be an issue with their hardware). overall, i have mixed feelings--sound is great, but it may be frustrating to get it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Where is Coaxial In?
I recommended this product to my friend as an external decoder for DVD surround sound. As an upgrade from Extigy, this thing surprisingly doesn't have a coaxial in. So those who want to use it as a dolby surround sound decoder are pretty much stuck with DVD players that have toshlink out.
As for the sound quality ,it's actually not that bad for a creative product. Definitely a step up from average AC97 onboard soundcards. But I doubt how many people would want to spend over 100 for the difference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your ears will sing praise to you
First of all, you will hear the difference. I absolutely guarantee it. You're laptop (or default pc) audio cannot even begin to measure up to the awesome power of the Audigy. You will hear it the moment you plug this marvel into your USB port. Even your mundane and boring-to-the-death windows system sounds now carry a cadence that was simply not there before.

The sound card supports 7.1 speakers (for hardcore gamers) as well as the more pedestrian 5.1 setup (like mine). the handling of surround sound is superb. The availability of EAX (the patented SoundBlaster HARDWARE sound package) provides for seemless transitions, and the direct hardware equalizer and on the fly effects are a tremendous bonus if you are planning to use this second sound card's output for DJ-ing (like i am).

The fact that this has an independent power supply might seem inconvenient at first, and frankly... it is... There is a tradeoff, however... You will not believe how loud your speakers can actualy go now without distorting! Deafening. Almost like a pre-amp in that respect.

The negative reviews for this card startle me. Jeff Rutsch is incorrect when he says the USB cable is short. Its 4 feet. Too long for me, actually... furthermore, if you want a 20 foot cable, go out and buy it! No issues whatsoever with magnetic shielding... Its a SoundBlaster for heaven's sake! I have also not had any problems with the installation (even though it took a good hour!) or recognition. It does help if you "Safely Remove" it and/or plug it in before booting up... Otherwise the remote does not always work properly. Also, talking about CD sound, Jeff (even if he is a computer guru, as he claims) did not do his homework. By default your CD-ROM drive converts the digital audio into analog for playback. If you do not adjust this setting, that is the way it will stay after you install the new hardware. Come on Jeff! That was both in the help file and the tutorial program! You should have read those!

Woody Jin's comments also amuse me. There apparently is a white noise that you can't really hear, but its there. What??? :| If you can't hear it.. its not there by definition... Right?

As a matter of fact my experience has been that my onboard laptop audio sounds like a woodsaw compared to this.... Actually the Audigy2 does not produce *any* background noise. At all...

My only "problem" with this device is that it almost neccecitates a speaker upgrade... I am eagerly awaiting my new set of speakers right now, in order to better experience the explosive sound of the Audigy2 card...

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the purchase
This product is a waste of money and I can't strongly enough recommend users away from it. First, the sound quality is just not very high. I barely noticed an improvement from using the computer's on-motherboard sound. This product slightly, but definitely noticeably, gives off a clipped & distorted sound, like a poorly encoded MP3. In addition, this product isn't well magnetically shielded, and must be placed as far as possible from any other part of your computer - not so easy when it's packaged with such a short USB cord.

Playing a CD through my computer and this soundcard, vs just playing the CD from a Discman, showed a night and day difference - the sound from this product can't compare. Running this product through recording software, even with short shielded wires, showed me a background hiss of -55 dB. Most consumer electonics will have S/N ratios a few orders of magnitude better than that. You wouldn't want to record your LP collection using this product, which is part of the reason I bought it.

In addition, the product is buggy. It worked fine at the beginning, and then as I added to my computer and changed the system configuration, it would act very erraticly. If I plugged the device into different USB ports, it would have completely different behaviors, none of which were correct. The installation software is buggy, I've been caught it loops where trying to exit merely re-starts the installer!

Creative's Support was very quick and attentive, but not helpful. I know computers well, and I've worked with plenty of hardware, but I've never experienced such a buggy product. As the product is so mediocre even when it is working, I can't recommend this product to anyone.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad analog recording, Background noise for digital music
I purchased this product mainly for recording my LP collection into digitial format using my laptop. I thought that this could be a good product for that purpose, until I used it. This product could not record properly from analog input. It's even much much worse than recording using laptop's analog input. Not only the recording level was so low, but also the recorded mp3 or wma had so much artificial noise that it was unusable. I used USB2 connection all the time. It seems to me that USB2 doesn't help any better.
Playing digital music was relatively OK, except that it produced slight background white noise. Still directly connecting from my laptop to the speaker produced much better result.
I wonder what the purpose of this device might be ?
Not recommended. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This thing roxxorz
I purchased this player last week. I did a little research on the web and this is the player I decided on. I refuse to buy anything made by Apple and the Nomad is about $200 cheaper anyway. I have had no problem what-so-ever with this product. The software installed flawlessly and without any problems on my Windows 2k machine. The headphones aren't the best, but you can really expect much out of the small headphones you insert in the ear cavity. The battery life seems good, takes very lttle time to charge, it uploads mp3s quickly and there is no delay between songs. Took me a few tries to get use to the navigation, but it's a very user friendly player IMO. I haven't messed with the firmware at all, the player worked perfect for me right out of the box. All-in-all, this is another excellent Creative product. If you have the money and need 40 GB, this is the player for you. It's small, light and nice looking and the display is decent as well. I would recommend this product to anyone.

2-0 out of 5 stars Important Zen Information
This player is an overall disappointment with a couple of big flaws that potential buyers should be wary of; and all readers need to know about a third party software company that resolves virtually all of the Creative MediaSource file transfer issues.

Zen Good points:

1. I achieved my basic objective; my entire CD collection is on a portable device with lots of room to store more.

2. Most MP3 players have a gap between the end of one track and the start of the next; it's annoying in music that is intended to be continuous. The Zen has minimal stoppage between tracks; when listening to music that continues from one track to the next the gap is just a hesitation - a slightly audible click; if I am not listening for the progress from one track to the next I don't even notice the click.

Flaws:

1. Creative MediaSource software is OK to rip, catalog & burn music if you are starting from scratch; but I used MusicMatch to rip my CDs before I bought the Zen (278 CDs; 3,400 tracks; 12.5Gb of music all ripped at 128bps) and guess what? MediaSource did not recognize my tags! My choices at that moment were to manually re-tag my music or re-rip using MediaSource. I don't think so. BTW, if you *are* ripping your CDs, MediaSource accesses the CDDB music catalog over the Internet and the few CDs I experimented with all provided good quality [correct & uncluttered] tag information.

2. Despite most reviewers giving kudos to the Zen for music quality, I experienced a flaw using EAX. After about 45 mins of listening there was audible static in the player. When I turned EAX off the static disappeared. When I turned EAX back on the static was also not present. Creative are *the* sound people for computers, I can't understand why EAX would introduce static. Is EAX faulty? Is my unit defective? Was I just unlucky at that moment? Was it a full moon that night? I haven't figured it out yet.

3. MediaSource is an application with serious user interface flaws. Do not underestimate this in your purchase decision. Many reviewers refer to it as "clunky" or "difficult" - heed their warnings. Some Amazon reviewers say it corrrupted their music files; I didn't use it long enough to know, but clearly you need to use it with caution.

4. The Zen *stores* data files, but does not allow a folder structure nor does it allow documents to be opened or programs to be launched from its disk (they must be copied to another hard drive to be launched). In other words, the Zen is not a convenient data storage device; only buy the capacity you need for your music collection (see point 1. for some sizing information). My goal of using it as a music player *and* data storage device has not been met; don't make the same mistake.

5. The Zen does not have a Stop button! You can stop playback by pressing 2 buttons, first the Pause button, then the "Next Track" or "Previous Track" button. But this is *not documented* in the Zen manual - neither the hard copy nor the CD version. To discover this I had to read about 10 online reviews (with many complaints about the lack of Stop button) before I found one reviewer who was smart enough to both figure it out & document it.

6. The Zen NX battery requires the AC adapter to recharge; it does not charge by USB cable; this is not tragic, but USB recharging would be a convenient (additional) choice. If you are buying a Zen Xtra check whether the battery recharges via USB; it does not on the Zen NX.

7. MediaSource did not install on my personal notebook. It referred to a "Microsoft Jet Database Engine" error and the install program suggested I download a service pack from the MS website to fix the problem; I did that and re-installed the software but had the same error. Creative provided e-mail support; I followed their advice but that failed, too. I experimented with installing MediaSource on 2 other computers at home and it worked fine. So it is probably "just bad luck" on my part that the personal notebook I own had this install error. However, it did motivate me to find a work-around solution.

Third Party Software To The Rescue

After much frustration (above) I found the Notmad Explorer; cute product name for software that resolves virtually all of the Creative MediaSource FILE TRANSFER & ORGANIZATION problems. I am not associated with the company, I am not providing a URL, but search for NotMad and you should find it pretty easily. This provides drag & drop transfers of music between the computer & Zen; each time it transfers music to the Zen it asks if you want to generate a playlist; it allows playlists developed in other software to be transferred to the Zen (.m3u files are used by most mp3 players like MusicMatch and Winamp, but not Creative - without Notmad you need to manually recreate your playlists); it doesn't care what software you use to rip or catalog your music - Creative or any other company - all my 12.5Gb of music were transferred to the Zen with correct tags - hooray! Notmad has other features too, but this is not an advertisement so please see the company's web site for more information ...

Conclusion:

If I knew then what I know now I would have paid the extra to get an iPod & avoided the Zen. Given that I already have the Zen the only reason I am happy with it is because of the Notmad software. And I am hoping the static I heard when using EAX was a blip ...

To summarize, I am using the Creative Zen as a mobile device; I am using MusicMatch to rip & catalog (and if I choose, download) music; I am using Notmad Explorer to move music & playlists between the Zen & my computer. The only Creative software I am using is the device driver(s).

5-0 out of 5 stars What more could you want - and the price is right!
I finally bought an MP3 player when there was a reasonable alternative to Apple. I was involved with Apple when they built the first one and had an Apple 1 in the late 70's. I saw them get very close to the vest and I was closely involved with IBM when they broke all their "Big blue" rules and turned a group loose in Boca Raton FL with but one charge - to get out a PC in two years regardless. I had a Beta test model.

That led to creation of a VERY open software platform, the relagation of Apple to schools and graphics types, and the creation of countless numbers of millionaires and the VERY rich William Gates. So now that I don't have to deal with "my way or the highway" Apple, I can get it my way.

The Nomad Zen Xtra 40 GB is every thing I want and then some. Those who fault the size being bigger than iPod did not grow up in the days of 30 pound luggables with a whopping 64 KB like I did. The software is top notch and works seemlessly and rapidly with my PC. The manual leaves a few holes but once you play around, you find that you can do all sorts of stuff with the Nomad connected to the computer that you cannot do with it disconnected.

The data storage is a big plus. I will still use my flash drives (128MB & 256MB) for portability of a lot of my data, but to back up my growing digital picture files this will be invaluable. I can take my entire picture collection around with me.

This is a real winner and I have not even gotten my FM attachment yet!

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost 1 year!
I received this player as a gift in the fall of last year. I have never had a problem with it. It has been great on trips and I bought an RF adapter that plays it through my car radio.
I take this thing everywhere. I know a lot of people like iPods. I have never used one. I HAVE used this player and can tell you that it has been nothing but great to me! I have only used up half the memory so far. I upload tons of CDs all the time. I even have a book on tape on it (28 compact discs alone!) the memory is huge on a 40 gb.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Travel Mate
I take this unit everywhere, and love it. I use this in my car with a C. Crane FM Transmitter and boy is it oh so nice to essentially have your own radio station.

I have to admit that the case could be a little better. You have to open it to see the display and make music selections.

I also wish it came with a car power adapter, I'm still trying to hunt one down for this particular model so that I don't have to run it off the battery all the time.

Other than these two minor issues, this unit is a great value. The battery is easy to get to (meaning you don't have to take the thing apart like the Ipod) and it will play wma files and hooks up to my Windows Systems! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the Zen solution for better PC sound quality
My Dell PC has an integrated soundcard, which provided mediocre-at-best sound quality whenever I tried to listen to Internet radio stations through my compact stereo system. I researched a whole slew of internal sound cards but read too many complaints about software glitches/slowdowns which made me balk at forking out $80 and up for them.

This USB external card does what I need perfectly: at a very reasonable price, I now get CD-quality sound from online music radio stations (the corporate FM stations here in Houston are just too pathetic for words) and without ever having to install any additional software on my PC, so zero noticeable resource drain. Sure if I ever decide to do surround sound (unlikely in my already-cramped home office) or do some cross-medium recording (unlikely due to my lack of time) I may regret not buying a more expensive card---but in the meantime I'm VERY happy with this sleek little baby. Simplicity, functionality, and cost-effectiveness...I couldn't ask for more!

And yeah, the sleek silver casing and flashing blue light are pretty cool too.

BTW, some awesome Net stations with zero commercials, awesome playlists, and free too: di.fm (the classical and modern jazz channels), kexp.org, radioparadise.com

4-0 out of 5 stars Better Notebook Sound
Although not as good, as the Creative Labs USB Sound Blaster Audigy2 External Sound Card, it gets the job done. My only problem is the lack of a SPDIF output for speaker systems. If you have a receiever that supports optical or even speakers it does transform a laptop into a stereo system. For the price I like it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very poor sound Quality
I bought this to add to my laptop to connect into my HiFi, The sound quality using the line-in was excuricatingly bad...

I'm returning it!

4-0 out of 5 stars good for laptops/notebooks
I own a laptop computer which has decent onboard sound capabilities, but I recently discovered that it only has one audio input -- a microphone jack -- which is mono, and therefore is not suitable for recording stereo sources. Due to the fact that there is no way to install a "real" sound card in it, I needed an external solution. This USB sound system from Creative fits the bill. It didn't make a dramatic -- or even noticable -- difference in the quality of the audio coming out of my speakers; however, it did allow me to digitize my old cassette tapes and vinyl records, which is the main reason I bought it. If your computer can't accomodate a real sound card and its audio abilities aren't good enough for what you need, this might be the solution you're looking for.

5-0 out of 5 stars I Use it to Record Voice for Presentations
I use this adapter to record presentations through our P.A. system right to my laptop. You can run any audio through the RCA and it compresses and records directly to MP3. It's a great way to burn presentations right to CD. I haven't tried to use it to beef up my computer sound system, but for $40 it was well worth being able to record voices in a small file size. ...
