5-0 out of 5 stars Good..
I found this straightener at a garage sale for 50 cents. I went home and tried it right away. My hair is not curly, but it always flips out at the bottom and tends to have a mind of its own at the back (it curls random ways). My hair is never frizzy but it never looks particularly shiny. I wash my hair once a week so it doesn't get greasy and I didn't take a shower on the day I tried it. It didn't come with the extra teeth, and I used it without the steam feature, but it still worked fine. My hair stayed straight all day and looked shiny-er than usual. Later on that week I used the steam feature and it didnt seem to make a difference from when I used the straightener without it. It was definitely worth it and I plan to continue using it.

1-0 out of 5 stars good god, stay away
I recieved this as a gift. Now, I have naturally curly hair-not kinky curly, but not loose waves either. Now, being that it was a gift I was of course polite and acted excited. I did try it knowing full well this was not going to work.I was right. My hair looked 10 times bigger then it normally is. The steam made my hair so puffy and frizzy it was comical.Stay away if you have naturally curly hair. Steam and curls are not a good combo. My hair looked like I sat in a sauna all day-YIKES!

1-0 out of 5 stars i wouldn't even pay $2 for this product
DO NOT BUY THIS IRON.
i used to have long slightly wavy hair, but after a shorter cut plus bangs, i decided i needed to buy a straightener so i bought this one at a local pharmacy for $20.
it did not do anything for me. it couldn't even straighten my bangs. all it did was damage my hair. in fact, my hair looked frizzier after i used it.
i went to my hairdresser and she suggested i buy the chi ceramic straightening iron, which i bought and have been using for 2 years.
if you're going to invest in a straightening iron, get a ceramic one because they actually work and they don't fry your hair.
this product should be taken off the market. conair products tend to be bad in gerneral.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hair straightener? not quite
I recieved this product as a Christmas present, and my hair isn't too curly or anything so I figured it would be fine for me. It doesn't do much for my hair, other than make it slightly less poofy, but does no where come near being straight (and this is after blow drying it 100%).My hair is only slightly wavy, and this did nothing for me; I would recommend spending a bit more on a ceramic hair straigtener, as they work far better. My hair stylist said that the steam setting on this iron is not good to use on your hair at all, or you'll fry it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time!
I tried this straightener because I thought the steam would reduce the amount of damage I was doing to my hair.Wrong.Because I had to go over the same spot so many times, I probably inflicted more damage to my tresses than if I had gotten a real straightener.

The straigtener did not seem to get very hot and was difficult to use because the jaws did not open that wide.

I suggest spending a little more to get a ceramic iron.Much better. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

Let's discuss something no one wants to talk about: ear and nose hair. It's simply a reality of life that, as we age, hair in these places can become longer and thicker. Despite the fact that no one wants to talk about it, unsightly hair doesn't go unnoticed; each of us can remember the dentist we had as a child, whose nose hair we'd gaze at as our teeth were worked on. Conair's cordless nose and ear hair trimmer can help you avoid becoming like that dentist. Engineered to safely cut hair in nostrils and ears, this trimmer's sheathed stainless-steel blades eliminate the painful risk of using scissors. Simply insert the tip of the trimmer and let it do its thang. Then we'll never have to discuss this topic again, will we? Two-year warranty. --Ariel Meadow Stallings ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars OK for the price
I received this for free and tried it out. It does the job just OK. Noisy.

4-0 out of 5 stars not bad for the price!
I can see people complaining about this trimmer if they were paying a big price, but c'mon! It does a decent job and the noise isn't any louder than your average vibrator! (joke) Go spend a ton more or have it done professionally for alot more, but don't complain when you're not paying alot. You get what you pay for....

1-0 out of 5 stars ear hair expert
I bought this Conair unit for the car (!)-(yup!) because I am a wreck in the mornings, and often forget to use my "old reliable" Panasonic one at home after shaving!...Moral of this story: this Conair thing ain't even worth the cheap price. It is loud, and doesn't cut close. Like giving your ear hairs a crew cut.

3-0 out of 5 stars Ok I use it, but it could be better.
Interesting device with two drawbacks which are sensory driven. One is that when you use it in your ear it is quite noisy. I wouldn't want to lose my hearing just to trim a little ear hair. Useable but loud. Using in the nose, it smells of light machine oil (or 3 in 1 oil) even after a year of use. Again, usable but could be better. As for actual cutting, it is pretty good but areas need to be repeated before being completely removed. Hmmm, a nose hair trimmer with an odor, and an ear hair trimmer that's too loud. Is there a better product out there on these two issues?

2-0 out of 5 stars Other models more effective
While it will certainly "get the job done," I found this model less effective than the (I believe) panasonic unit I had which has a circular blade that spins rather than this straight blade that goes back and forth. This one is cheap, but I would go with the panasonic. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad
I have wavy hair and, It took around 10 minuets to heat and two hours to straighten with the conair straightener. Then it would end up wavy again by less than mid-day. With the velvet material on the straighener it did not pull our strands of hair at all but with the velvet like material on it it makes it harder and take longer to straighten. I've had it for a short while and the velvet is already fadding. There are way better products out there. I do not recomend this to anybody.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good

It’s easy for professional hair stylists to blow-dry your hair into the perfect style. But when you get home from the salon and try to balance a round brush in one hand and a hairdryer in another, it tends to be a little awkward. This combination dryer/styler needs only one hand and joins both hairstyling tools into one appliance. The unit can be used solely as a dryer, or you can attach the nylon-bristle round brush attachment so heat blasts from behind the brush to set styles perfectly. The styler/dryer also includes a detangling comb attachment for combing out snarls in long or dry, curly hair. The unit has a powerful but quiet 1,875-watt motor that sends out a stream of hot air at one of two different speeds (low or high) or, via a cool button, sends a blast of cold hair to set your hairstyle. A removable concentrator nozzle also lets you direct the dryer’s heat to a specific section of hair for more specialized styling. 1-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth Your Money
The Conair Shiny Straight Hair Straightener isn't worth your money. You've worked hard to earn that money, so why spend it on something that won't work? The only person that would really get a good job done with this straightener is someone with extremely fine hair that is naturally straight. And if you have naturally straight hair, you're not going to straighten it. I don't understand how people make any money off this! If you want a good straightening job, you have to get a good straightener. However, this doesn't mean that you have to haul over to your stylist and buy one for $200.

How to buy: The best straighteners are ceramic (ceramic isn't as damaging as metal and aluminum) and have at least 150 watts of power. Most good straighteners are $50 - $110. Conair (with my experience) hasn't been a good brand. My favorite brands are Revlon, Hot Tools, and Hai. Revlon is pretty cheap- $25 for a 170 watt, but not ceramic. Hot Tools is average- $67 for a 170 watt ceramic flat iron. Hai is the most expensive- $120 for a 220 watt ceramic flat iron. The longer, thicker, frizzier, and curlier your hair, the more power and larger plates you should use. I personally have thick, frizzy, wavy/curly, dry hair and I use the Hot Tools 3" Ceramic Flat Iron (available on Amazon) with great, natural-looking results. When buying a flat iron, look for 150+ watts of power and/or 300+ degrees Celsius, ceramic plates, and made buy a reputable company. Make sure ALL of this information is listed and meets these requirements. If it's not, don't buy it.

Note: Using John Frieda Frizz-Ease Daily Nourishment Leave-in Fortifying Spray (available on Amazon) after you wash your hair will leave your hair hydrated, enriched with vitamins, and protected against heat styling. This is especially important if you don't have a ceramic flat iron.

If you have any other questions/concerns about buying a flat iron, ask your stylist. She/He may bribe you to buy from them, but remember there are many other flat irons that work well and don't cost too much. If your hair starts breaking or burning, use a protective product like the one listed above.

Good luck!

1-0 out of 5 stars What a piece of junk
I have naturally wavy hair. So, if I want perfectly straight tresses, I need the assistance of a straightening iron. There are many choices out there, so make sure you compare- and don't let price be your only deciding factor. I did, and ended up with the spiteful Conair Shiny Straight Hair monster. The sliding purple button is supposed to change the plates from a metal set (for the straightening) to a velvet-covered set (for the "shiny") part. While this thing sort if did it's job, the button/slide mechanism didn't work for squat. The middle plate kept dislodging itself, and I was left with 10 burnt sausages for fingers. Frustrating in the extreme. A word of advice I had to learn the hard way: if you want great hair, you have to spend money on it (no matter what those Suave commercials say). Even if you have to scrimp in other areas, buy yourself professional grade hair tools, like the HAI convertible ceramic iron- runs you around eighty-five bucks, but you'll love how well it works. The Conair flatenning iron may be a lot less, but it's a complete waste of money. Ask your hairdresser for his/her opinion on the right tools for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a Complete Waste of Money
I bought the Conair Shiny Straight Hair Straightener about 2 or 3 years ago because like many people who buy straighteners, I don't have perfectly straight hair. I also have very thick, somewhat wavy, somewhat frizzy hair.

Pretty much every hair stylist I've seen has used a straightening iron on my hair. It always looks awesome! I decided I had to buy one for myself not realizing the difference between the professional straightening irons and the ones you get at walmart. I picked it up at walmart for about $13. After using it, I was fairly happy with it. Then I'd go and get my hair professionally done and realize that there was a huge difference between how my hair looked then and if I did it with my Conair straightener. Later on my hairstylist told me that her professional flat iron (or straightener) has about 1800 watts of heating power while my Conair might have 200 maximum! The good professional ones have ceramic plates and the Conair Shiny Straight Hair Straightener has aluminum. Ceramic heats up faster and retains heat a lot better than aluminum. She said I could buy a professional one from her for $100-200. Not having that kind of dough on me at the time, I decided against it.

The Details
-Has 2 different settings: shiny and straight.
-Use the aluminum plates to straighten and "velvet" plates to make your hair shiny.
-Can lock it in the closed position for easier storage.

What's good about it:
-After a few years I still have it, it's quite durable, haven't had any problems with it breaking or anything.
-Tames some of the frizzies.
-it straightens some, but not as much as I'd like.
-Might be good with someone with thin hair or short hair.
-Nice 6 foot long cord.
-Safe to put on any surface while it heats.
-Switch between the settings just by closing it up and flipping a converter switch. No losing any parts!

What's bad about it:
-Takes maybe 30 minutes to heat up to it's fullest.
-Can use it for a while, but then after 10 minutes you may need to close it up and reheat it a bit.
-Does not straighten as well as professional ceramic straighteners.

***Be careful of some straighteners saying that they're professional ceramic... there's a conair out there with 200 watts of heating power that claims to be ceramic and professional. I think not!***

-With my amount of hair (it's a little past my shoulders and reallly thick), it takes me about 45 minutes to do a decent job while a good straightener should take maybe 20.
-The "velvet" plates are supposed to make your hair nice and shiny. All it did for me is pump it full of static!
-Definitely not recommended for anyone with curly or especially wavy hair.

1-0 out of 5 stars yuk
this straightener sucks! my hair is curly/wavy and all it does is take some of the curl out to make it fizzy and wavy! i think the problem is that it can not get hot enough to do anything. I have a hot tools straightener and it is amazing...my hair is silky smooth after using it. i recommemd hot tools!

1-0 out of 5 stars Does not straighten, only flattens
I have very long, thick, wavy hair and I like to straighten it - I got this straightener because I thought that it would work better than the large barrell curling iron I've been using for years. But, honestly, it's a piece of junk. It does not straighten my hair at all - even when I use it very slowly with little chunks of hair. All it does it take my waves and flatten them, not straighten them. My hair ends up looking worse when I'm done using this thing than it did before I started. And the velvet piece is supposed to add shine to your hair?? It didn't to mine at all. Not recommended at all. Use a large barrell curling iron, or another straightener with a higher rating. ... The accompanying charging stand has an indicator light that illuminates when in action and provides 40 minutes of cordless use from one charge. Women with curly or slightly wavy hair can now change their look in a matter of minutes with this at-home hair straightener. This Satin Finish model has ceramic-coated straightening plates, which distribute heat evenly without creating frizz or hair damage, providing more professional results. The ceramic technology also prevents the straightening iron from sticking to hair and promotes silky, shiny hair.

For quick styling, the Satin Finish instantly heats up 60 seconds after powering up and offers 25 different heat settings on its adjustable dial to accommodate all hair types. To create consistent results, the straightening iron employs a feature called the Uniform Heat Recovery System. This system transfers heat from the plates to hair during straightening, causing the plates to cool down slightly, and then resumes its former temperature before you straighten the next section of hair. A flocked exterior surface stays cool during straightening and keeps heat away from the scalp. The unit also has a hinged, ergonomically curved handle for better control during styling.

The 3/4-inch-thick plates on this straightening iron accommodate sections of hair that are 2 inches wide and 1/2-inch thick or less. For safety, this appliance has a cool tip at the end of its plates; automatic shut-off; a power light; and a 6-inch tangle-free, swiveling cord. 1-0 out of 5 stars not suitable for longer hair
This straightener will probably do a really good job on shorter hair, but it does not get hot enough to make my hair silky smooth and dead straight. Granted, it was less than 20 bucks.
I suggest this straightener for short hair, but my hair is extremely long and wavy, and this straightener didn't grant me the smooth, thin texture I desired. If you invest in some good styling products, however, it might work for you.
I am now buying a Hot Tools one, that brand works well and the products are less expensive than HAI or CHI straighteners.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a Good Purchase
My number one complaint of this iron is the cord. Within a month, it was completely twisted; within two months, the cord was twisted over on itself. I was forced to try to style my hair one foot away from the electrical outlet. I got tired of bending and twisting over my counter; and the results were still hardly worth it.

Additionally, the narrow width is a major drawback. I bought this iron primarily to create a flipped-out look, so I thought the narrow width would be an asset, as well as great money-saver. However, I was much more pleased with the results when I used a wider flat iron, because then it would flip out more of my hair more quickly since I could hold more hair in a 2" grip rather than a 3/4" grip.

Also, the narrow width really added to the time it took to straighten my hair overall--because I had to go over each strand several times, or risk damaging my hair by moving it very slowly. Plus, I had to use thinner strands of hair, because the width kept the heat from thoroughly heating and straightening thicker sections of hair.

I'm not sure that you would have to spend more money to get a better product, but I am sure that (1) the cord defect renders the product almost unusable after you've had it too long to send it back or have lost your receipt; and (2) a straightener is something that you will use often enough to justify spending the money on a product recommended by your stylist or a friend.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Disappointment
Keep in mind that this straightener is only ceramic coated and pales in comparison to actual ceramic straighteners. I bought this for the low price but with that came the lightweight cheap feel and the horrible results. The plates gripped my hair very roughly instead of smoothly gliding over it. I would not recommend this straightener at all. Don't waste your time or money with this -- I have already returned it to Amazon and received a refund, which I used on the Revlon Satin Finish Ceramic Straightener. I highly recommend that one instead of this Conair piece of uselessness. It costs about $8 more but it's definitely well worth it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!
Over the years, I have been continually disappointed with Conair products, and with this item, I have decided I will never buy one again! This is not a true ceramic iron (a friend schooled me)-- the plates are "ceramic coated." So basically it's a regular straightening iron with a layer of cheap "ceramic" over the plates. My hair did not achieve the promised "professional" results, and went back to wavy in a few hours. Unfortunately, ceramic irons are one of those professional items you have to pay the top $ to get a good product. The same friend suggests either a Solano or Baybliss (quite reasonably priced).

4-0 out of 5 stars good deal
Prior to buying this, I have had experience with a different hair straightener, which was my roommates and hers is the salon one, bought for like a hundred dollars so when I went out to buy a straightener.. what I did know is that I didn't want to pay ONE HUNDRED DOLLARs.. but i also did not want to buy too cheap a straightener that would end up a disappointment sOo i went online and searched and came up this one. What I liked, besides the price was the fact that it had ceramic plates so the moisture in my hair would stay and that IT would not dry out my hair. Also it's not too big or small. Now I woould have to say that this is a pretty good straightener.. granted i have wavy THICK hair. It doesn't work as FAST as my roommates straightener but it WILL get the job done and that's the main thing. =T my hair is a little longer then my shoulder and it takes about 12 minutes to straighten my hair. =T nOt bAd... ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!!
I received this as a birthday gift, and I just love it! Although it only sits on one side of the tub, the entire bath was full of bubbles. I personally didn't find the sound of the product bothersome; the bubbling action filled the room with a pleasing fountain-like sound. Very relaxing! The only problem I had was not wanting to get out of the tub. I anticipate using this item at least once a week, so I hope the motor can keep up.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!
I have always wanted one of these, so my mom got me one for my birthday almost a year ago. I love it! The two settings are great, and it's really powerful. It's a little loud, but definately worth it. The only other problem I have with it is that it's so powerful that the suction cups don't stay put very well. Overall, it's great!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice item but make sure it fits!!
This item does what it claims to do, and does it well, but make sure it will fit the side of your tub! It is adjustable but does not open very large and so as a result I risk electrocution every time I use it because I sort of balance it on the tub side! Measure your tub wall before you buy!!! ... Amazon.com Product Description

The SW2514 from Conair is a touch-tone corded phone with a rotary style look and feel, and even a mechanical bell ringer for a retro sound. With its unique design, the SW2514 delivers a hint of the old, while providing many of the features of today. Caller ID/call-waiting compatible, the SW2514 stores up to 64 numbers in its caller ID memory, while a new-call indicator lets you know if someone has called since you last checked the caller ID log. With display and dial, you can easily dial any caller ID entry, and the LCD menu on the base can be set to one of three languages (English, French, or Spanish).

A receiver control lets you adjust volume levels, and a ringer on/off switch is also provided. The SW2514 requires four AAA batteries to operate (sold separately), and accordingly an indicator lets you know when they are running low. A redial button allows you to easily dial the last outgoing number, while hearing aid compatibility is provided for hearing-impaired users. Wall-mountable, the SW2514 comes backed by a one-year limited warranty.
