    Amazon.com Product Description

Philips 17PF8946 17-inch HDTV-ready flat-panel LCD TV is more than just great looks. The perfect size for a small space, the 3.1-inch-thick display provides an excellent audio/visual experience with features like Crystal Clear III, Active Control, Virtual Dolby Surround, and unique flat speakers. It even has a built-in FM radio tuner so you can listen to all your favorite radio channels, and up to 40 station presets make sure you tune in fast.

The high-definition (HD tuner not included), 1,280 x 768 WXGA LCD panel uses the latest panel technology, such as Philips' proprietary Crystal Clear package of innovations featuring a 3D digital comb filter (eliminates dot crawl and color bleeding, enhancing fine detail, cleaning up image outlines, and removing most extraneous colors), Dynamic Contrast for deep blacks and pure whites, and green and blue color enhancement. The high 400:1 contrast ratio gives you better subtle color details and the ability to see the picture in bright light conditions, and the 25-millisecond response time means it's capable of handling fast-moving action without image blur or lag.

Active Control delivers the best picture setting, any time, from any source. The incoming signal is automatically analyzed and key picture settings, like sharpness, color, and contrast, are adjusted. The 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio is the best for viewing HDTV and DVDs so you can have a more realistic cinema experience, but the TV has zoom modes for viewing 4:3 analog broadcast TV and pan-and-scan-formatted video.

Built-in flat speakers (4 watts per channel) sit on either side of the active-matrix TFT LCD, giving you full stereo sound without needing to connect to an external speaker system. Virtual Dolby Surround sound support simulates cinema surround sound effects without the need for rear speakers. Philips' Smart Listening auto volume leveling eliminates drastic volume spikes while changing channels or when channels go to a commercial break.

Other features include fantastic 176-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles, 100 preset channels, Autostore for easy tuning, Auto Picture (five modes give you picture settings for different types of programming), Auto Sound (four modes to tailor the TV sound to enhance what you're watching), multilanguage onscreen display, sleep timer, integrated NTSC tuner and RF jack for terrestrial reception, ergonomic remote control, and an antireflective screen.

Want to do more than just watch TV? The 17PF8946 has an FM antenna connector for getting better reception, a rear composite input, and a component input that helps minimize digital and line-scan artifacts during DVD playback. And, because the TV is progressive scan, it can take advantage of the more filmlike images produced by progressive-scan DVD players. It has a VGA input too, which receives the signal from your PC so you can use it as a TV and a PC monitor. A set of side jacks has a composite A/V input with S-video, a mini headphone jack, and an audio in for using the TV's speakers with your PC.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you see this on eBay, buy it!
I did. Then I read another review that here that talked about its limited remote control functions, and I got worried. Fortunatly, the reviewer was way off base. The neck strap remote is unique and has volume control, skip, and scan modes. The unit does remember the last song played as well. There is a minimum amount of wires to fuss with because the ear phones are plugged into the top of the neck strap. I'm really happy with this MP3 player.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get this for ease of use and style
Ease of use is best to describe the player. It has a drag and drop interface so there is no need to use a program to transfer music. There is no copy protection on the player so music can be copied to another computer with ease. The remote on the player controls play/pause, skip to forward, skip backward, volume up and volume down. The player resumes playback at the start of the last song played. As for the controls on the player, it's simple as there is one switch. The off/charge position and the playback.download position. I never worry about batteries as I leave it charging in the USB port and when I flip the switch it shows up as a removable storage device. It comes with an external AAA battery pack the provides 10 hours of music and when attached looks like it was built as one and not an attachment. I don't mind the omission of the lcd screen on the player because it really is liberating to not worry about renaming songs. I use this player for the gym over my ipod as it is so much lighter and I put my top 25-30 songs on it and don't worry about changing artists, albums, etc. The sound from the player is amazing. It doesn't have an equalizer and it still sounds better than my 3rd gen 20gb ipod and my old samsung yp-30sh (the key ring replaced this unit). I really was shocked by the sound quality. In terms of looks it is top notch. Everyone comments on how great it looks when they see it. Having said that I bought the KEY005 and not the KEY006 because I would never where one around my neck cause I think it looks stupid to do so. It is also rugged as I have dropped it on the treadmill and there were no chips or dents. In the office if I need to take a file home I just delete a track from the player and drag and drop the document. The only minus is there is no ability to scan through songs. I don't mind this anymore as I just turn on the player and forget about it. The only item I replaced was the headphones. Here is a link of the ones I got with a short cord and work perfectly for me: ..... In summary, I have owned this player for 3 weeks and this is the perfect player for the gym, office and short commutes.

5-0 out of 5 stars wow!
i got this mp3 player for my birthday and it rocks! i love it so much. and how cheap! i got it on sale! it doesnt skip ever or there is nothing ever rong with it. the only problem is that i dont like how there is no screen and all the controls are on the neck strap. but for the person that sayd it was really bad. its not. if its not playing, are you holding the play button down for 2 seconds? is it charged all the way? if your looking for a really good mp3 player at a really good price i recommend this one! trust me!

4-0 out of 5 stars cool gadget
I love the MP3 key. I gave it 4 stars because i had to fork out an additional $15 at best buy for a car adapter. I would also like a fast forward/reverse feature, but I knew there was not one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aways good to go!
I have been using this unit for about two years now. I had the neck strap go on me after I accidently pulled on it while carrying it. Philips replaced it within a few days! The first thing that you need to know is that it is not a PDA or a Juke box. There is not display or fancy EQ features etc. It is however, a great unit for those who wish to keep a low profile while listening to MP3's or WMA's. The sound quality is excellent. This can be improved upon by using a higher grade headphone then the pair supplied with the unit. I use full over ear style when bike riding in the fall. As far as usage, it wins over other units hands down. By simply touching the right spot on my shirt, the unit allows me to control track selection, volume or start/stop features. I often wear it while shopping. I can set volume levels so that I am jamming, and still able to talk with store assistants. If you need alot of bells and whistles, skip this player. If you want portability, a very cool design, and ease of use, this is the game right here. Pro: light weight, easy to wear under clothing. Neck strap provides good control features. Easy to download from PC Cons: no expandability, but new units have 256 meg capacity. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best stereo i have ever purchased
this is by far, the best stereo i have ever bought. with it's 330 Watts of power, and it's 5-disc CD changer, it's an awesome buy. with the wOOx subwoofers, you get exelent bass sound, and with high volumes, and high ammounts of bass, the subwoofer bounces around, it's cool. I use the gameport to plug in my Xbox to it, so i get great surround sound, with two 6.5 inch woofers, two 6.5 inch wOOx subwoofers, and two 2 inch ferro-liquid cooled tweeters, instead of the small, 2 inch TV speakers. there is only three problems i have encountered in my several weeks of ownership of this stereo, all of which are easily solved; it's a big stereo, and it's hard to find a place to put it, the gigantic speakers make my TV look a little dinky, and it doesn't play cassettes, which is no big deal, seeing it has an auxilary input on the back, which allows me to plug any old cassette player into it, so i can play my Led Zeppelin cassettes ;) if you can afford it, and you want a top-end stereo, i strongly suggest you buy this stereo. 330 watts is more than enough power to fill almost any room. and with it's "Incredible Surround" setting, you can create surround sound for almost any room. unless the room you are planning on filling is the size of a movie theatre, you should be good with this stereo. before i bought this stereo, i looked at the Philips FW-C577, which is much like this stereo, but without the wOOx subwoofers, and a slightly smaller prise tag. it costs about $50 less. but, if you like great bass, i suggest you bite the bullet, grab an extra fifty bucks, and buy this stereo. much better sound. i checked it out the other one at Wal-mart, and this one is better.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good
I needed an external drive for my laptop, one which support the older USB 1.1 connection and this one caught my attention with it's design and low price. The drive works very well. I get a 4X burning speed, which is acceptable considering I don't have a USB 2.0 port. It's not portable and doesn't function as a portable cd player, but frankly why would I want to use a CDRW as a cd player.

It's easy to set up and works fine with Easy CD creator (included software).

The only problem I have is that it doesn't work for iTunes, at least not for me. I found that a bit frustrating since iTunes doesn't let you use 3rd party software to burn cds.
However, it does work with Napster 2.0 and I'm forced to switch from iTunes due to that.

Bottom Line: consistant drive, works well, but keep in mind that it doesn't work with iTunes for me and it might not work for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars AVERAGE PERFORMANCE; NO OUTSTANDING FEATURE!
To some extent, greed is the corporate order now. The fact that most (established) companies are only interested in meeting their profit-targets relegates quality to the background.
Yes, this "Philips Jack-Rabbit 24x12x40-external-CD-ReWriter" spots a healthy 8MB data buffer capacity. It supports USB 2.0, as well as both Windows and Mac operating systems. But that is all! Its overall performance hovers on the average. It has very limited features.
Whereas many no-name external CD burners come with earphone ports and volume control buttons for playing music CDs, this Philips CD-RW has neither. It could not even boast of an ON/OFF switch or button; and only turns on when connected to a PC or Mac. Please, do not look at this article, if you hope to enjoy music CDs directly from your external CD-RW.
Despite its advertised 8MB buffer capacity, and 'Seamless Link' buffer-underrun protection, expect this CD-RW to produce one 'coaster' for every seven CDs it records well. In fact, its mediocre bundled-software is so lousy that it won't let you ascertain if the underrun problem is from the recorder itself, or as a result of poor quality CD media.
Finally, before jumping at its popular Philips trademark, note that this CD-RW has just an average output. It has no outstanding feature! And, quite unlike many external CD-RW, you cannot use this "Philips JR24CDRW" as a portable CD player. I am very reluctant to recommend this CD-RW, but I hope you make a good choice. All the best!

    2-0 out of 5 stars can't burn dvd+r's
I have probably wrecked about a 12 DVD+R discs in this burner. I have 2.4GHz computer and have tried Nero 5, 5.5 and 6. I even took the advice of the guys at Philips to turn off every program in the task bar. Half of the discs cancel burning before they finish and the other half are mostly, if not entirely, unreadable. CDs and DVD+RWs work fine, but I already had a Cde burner and RWs cost twice as much as the Rs and they can't be put in DVD players.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very reliable
I have read other reviews about this machine. Some had problems connecting it to Master and others to Slave. It worked both way for my PC. Now I can back up all those "A Bugs life", "Ants"....and other DVDs that I keep buying for my kids and they keep damaging. At first I could not back up some DVDs because of copy protection, but I now I can do that for any DVD. The Philips dvdrw228 can copy DVD on the fly very fast, as short as 20 Minutes, unlike some other writers that will take up to 1 hour or more on the fly. Also, it burns DVD perfectly, no over burn, or soft burn. Because it has an advanced system to major the best burn for the Disc (Discs are made differently).

5-0 out of 5 stars Much better than older Philips burner drives
I had one of the first CD-R drive (CDR2600) Philips made several years ago that I had wrecked many discs in. This time I got this drive with the computer 2.8GHz Compaq Presario 8000 I bought. I have to say it's a day and night difference. So far I have only used DVD+RW and CD-R discs and it worked flawlessly every time. The speed is satisfied. It surprised me that the drive writes faster with my old SCSI Jaz drive than with the 48X CD-ROM drive on the same bus with the burner. I have yet to try burn photo CD or VCD or video DVD. But for burning data discs, it's adequate.

4-0 out of 5 stars The drive works great for me.
I have had no problems with my drive...I've used several different brands and types of disks....good clean burns each time.

The software that comes with it is pretty good, too...Nero is considered one of the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works great so far
This drive works great so far. I've had it for a month with no major problems. The +RW format seems to be superior with better compatibility to the -RW format for what I use it for. (I have and use all 5 DVD recordable formats.)

I have a problem with installing the software disk that came with it, and it seems to stem from having multiple DVD burners installed on the system (or perhaps using it on a ATA bus add-on card--the installer can't see the drive if it does a check purely through the ATAPI interfaces). But my drive generally works with my old software with appropriate +R/+RW patches installed.

My only coasters that I've generated were due to my error, not the burner. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good monitor, questionable software
The 201B monitor has a sharp display. I run it at 1600x1200 with small fonts and all the print is easily readable. It has a standard 15 pin D-sub and BNC connectors so you can hook two computers to it and switch back and forth with a front panel selector switch.

One disappointing item: the monitor has a USB connector and software to let you adjust it with a PC program. The software loaded from the supplied CD but refused to work on my Win2k PC. I found out from Philips custumer support that the USB adjust feature only works with Win95 or Win98. It doesn't say that on the box or in the manual. Its hard to imagine why Philips would add an expensive feature to a product but then only support it on an obsolete OS. Most users will have to use the normal front panel buttons for adjustments.

    5-0 out of 5 stars Space-Saving 21"!
This 21" monitor is a real space saver. I prefer the tube type monitors and did not want to go to an LCD. Most 19" & 21" monitors would take up too much space on my desk. This one is more compact and has a nice picture quality. Pretty reasonable price too. ... Read more

Now you can enjoy thousands of streaming Internet radio stations--as well as all the MP3 and mp3PRO files stored on your PC's hard drive--wirelessly, from nearly anywhere in your house. The Philips MCi250 Stream Internet-Audio Microsystem is WiFi-compatible and broadband-ready for wired connections, too. The system also comes with a full-featured MP3 CD player and a digital AM/FM stereo tuner for traditional stereo conveniences.

With the MCi250 you just have to select "Internet" as a source to instantaneously hear radio from around the world. Unlike conventional radio, Internet radio lets you control what you hear--you can often skip to the next track and see who the next artist will be.

See how you can use the supplied wireless USB transmitter to turn your home into a wireless network
Because its broadband connection is always available through your home network, there's no need to set up the system every time you want to listen to Internet music--it's automatically at the ready. You can also download MP3s from the Internet to your PC and burn them to a CD. This CD can now be played on the MCi250 literally anywhere you go (AC power required for operation). One MP3 CD can carry up to 12 hours of music, and the unit can play files with bit rates between 32 and 320 kbps as well as variable-bit-rate recordings.

Ever missed or forgotten an artist's name after a song has piqued your interest? Just press the handy INFO! button to receive an e-mail containing information about the artist and the track you're hearing. You can also link to retailers to buy the music. And if you're already drowning in e-mail, don't worry--set your e-mail preferences using My.Philips.com and the site will store your INFO! choices until you review them online at your convenience.

"Favorites" is a fast and easy way to bookmark all your preferred music. From the tracks of a CD to broadcast radio stations to the channels and stations offered by Philips's music services--they can all be bookmarked at the touch of the (UN)MARK button. Then press Favorites while in any music source: your list will display and you're ready to select and play a new favorite.

The system is upgradeable, too--use your Internet connection to download and install software updates for exciting new services and product features. Created exclusively for owners of Philips broadband Internet products, the My.Philips.com Web site is your personal tool for getting information and managing your entertainment choices.

As a sound system, the MCi250 delivers the goods. Its two-way speakers each contain a 1-inch cone tweeter for crisp high frequencies and a 5.25-inch aluminum-cone woofer powered by Philips's patented wOOx Technology for powerful bass response. The dual-suspension bass radiator, together with dedicated amplifier circuitry, is designed to produce and handle dynamic sound at very low frequencies.

An auxiliary input (stereo analog audio) accommodates a cassette deck, external MP3 player, DVD player, or other device, and a dedicated subwoofer output lets you hook up a powered sub for extended bass response. Bass and treble controls allow sound adjustment to personal preferences, and Incredible Surround employs psychoacoustic methods to widen the perceived stereo spatial image for full-impact home entertainment--especially helpful if you're not using surround speakers.

    What's in the Box
The MCi250 Internet radio microsystem, a multifunction remote control, remote batteries, FM/AM antennas, a user's manual, and warranty information.

Note: Broadband Internet service and a gateway router including DHCP/NAT support are required for full use of this product's features. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly Surprised
I was very apprehensive to buy this based on the reviews of this and similar streaming music products. However, I found it at a local store for $227 and decided to try it, figuring I could return it if necessary. I bought it Saturday and started trying to get it to work Sunday. It wasn't nearly as bad to set up as I imagined. I followed others advice and first connected it via Ethernet to get the latest firmware upgrade (it only took a minute to download and was effortless). The Wireless was a little tricky, but I did get the 128 WEP to work, but only after turning the system off and back on. The only other "issue" was my firewall, but I changed one setting as recommended on Phillips website and I was off and running. The sound is great and the connection is very fast, I can breeze through my 6000+ MP3 collection with no delay. The Internet radio sounds better than I was expecting. The only thing that would make this better is the capability to play WMA file types. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with the purchase and would highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best internet steaming devices I've used
Mine finially came this week. Waited 3 weeks for it. Philips needs to improve this. I agree with the previous reviews, it's not easy to set up do to lack of information. But once you get past the setup, its a great device. Very fast booting up and connecting to your network. Execellent sound. Very clean display. And easy to use. My eight year old was able to operate it with little instruction.
Some hints for new users. Don't try to connect using a wireless network when you first boot up. It will be easier if you update the units software first (which does automaticlly on first boot when connected to a network) then change to wireless. Web encryption was easy with the new software.
Don't install Philips version of musicmatch from their site. Install the one from musicmatche's site, version 8.2 has the philips streaming option.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! I have been waiting for this kind of thing......
This box is just great. Why didn't they make this
    a couple of years ago?

Are you an internet radio fan? Are you sick of your
CD collection? If you answered yes, then you should
    buy this.

The box connected up to my wired internet connection
(have not tried wireless yet) with no problem and
I could immediately access hundreds of stations on
live365.com. I had to bootup my computer in the past.
Now I can just do it on my 250 boombox. And listen to
hours of music. This has been the best product I have
bought in years (after my DVD player that i got 7 yrs ago).
I am really jazzed about it.

The product looks slick. The Woomx feature makes a
significant difference to the sound quality.

Also, when you play one of your CDs, it connects
up to the internet and downloads track information!

My only complaints are that it has only a single CD disk
player and doesn't have CD-RW capability (for making
your own MP3 compilations) and it is 100W output capacity.
    Otherwise, I love this thing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never Mind : returned mine already
Well, I played with two of these systems, and based on it's configuration and usage over a corporate T1 line, I decided to purchase it for home use on a Cable\Wireless G configuration. All systems and networking components are bedded and stable, and provide continous 700 mpbs connectivity in late evening \ overnight \ morning. Surge protected power.

I've been a senior NT Engineer for over 8 years, but nothing would enable this machine to 'mate' with my linksys 2.4ghz router. No FAQ's were available, no user manual help; in fact the best resource were these reviews here! The machine even failed to work in 'auto everything' mode, and refused to work when setup with identical system configuration as my dell D500. So I went to UTP \ CAT5 \ BASET100.

    Problems
    - WEP code entry is clumsy and terribly implemented : lower case \upper case are the same characters.
    - Entry of email addresses and other items give you <1 second to get it right per character cycle, and you cannot 'go back' - you can only delete and start from "A" again.
    - Connectivity on UTP \ CAT5 \ BASE 100 within a small network was terrible : any machine rebooting resulted in the machine hanging, and play stopping.
    - Random disconnects also caused the whole machine to CRASH and refuse to work again ("lost connection to proxy" messages when not using a proxy for example.
    - 'lack' The backplane has numerous cutouts for more advanced connections (proper connectivity, extra components, SPDIF (?).

I already returned it after less than a week. I have no problem adopting new technology, but only if it actually works. This did not, and I strongly do NOT recommend it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice and easy to handle
I just received my MC-i250. The setup was very easy with my WLAN router using the 128-bit WEP encryption key and SSID. The unit immediately connected to my network and downloaded the firmware upgrade. I had some trouble receiving the registration email, but that was just because my email server filtered it out as spam. Once registered, I could enter my personal radio stations on the WEB and update the time setting via the Internet. The unit connected and played the stations properly. Sound quality is excellent, especially the wOOx bass enhancement feature is a great experience.

The only unfortunate thing is that the CD player in the unit I received is broken. I called Philips customer service who suggested to return the unit rather than repair it. Very courteous and fast response though. I will now see how well the replacement procedure works.

Overall, I can recommend this item. ... Read more

Great compact little TV for the money. However did get it $50 cheaper in the store. Color and Clarity are wonderful for the size.Needed a small tv for a guest bedroom, but didn't want to take up space with a bulky set. This did the trick!

I bought this TV for myself, and I am extremely pleased with it. The picture is great with cable, and even better with DVDs. I love it, however, I bought mine for $50 less at BJ's wholesale club.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Price, Great Product
This is a terrific TV for the money. (When it bought it, it was on sale, too.) It was simple to hook up. I did not have a lot of hope for using it as a monitor for my PC, but low and behold, it functions beautifully as a monitor and a TV. The picture is clear as can be. I hooked up my VCR and DVD player and on the remote you can switch easily between TV and computer monitor. I am really pleased with this little TV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good LCD TV
After quite a bit of shopping for a 15" LCD TV at local retailers, this one performs as well as any of its competitors ... at a much better price. Picture quality with S-Video Cable and Direct TV is very good. Plenty of inputs for DVD, Sat/Cable, Audio, etc. I'm very satisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend it to others. 5-0 out of 5 stars Great Burner
I've had my Philips CD burner since May of last year (2001). I have never recieved an error with it and the cds are perfect practically every time I burn a disc. I've done entire mp3 discs with 150+ songs and every one comes out as crisp as before I burned it. I've also done cds with 3000+ files and don't receive errors when I go to use it. And that goes for every time I burn those types of cds.

I've tested the burner out with Nero to see how fast it could actually read. Because of the fact Nero only tests the drive out for a short amount of time, I was unable to get a clear idea of its max, but the drive was reading at around 19x and still increasing in speed. Now, you can compare that to my regular drive that says it will do 40x, but only reached about 4 or 5.

In May it was a great deal at the price and, in my opinion, still is today.

1-0 out of 5 stars BAD BURNER BLUES
Just got a PCRW804K17 on ebay for $12.00. I thought WOW!! What a deal!!! Sure, it was an older model, but was in mint condition. I soon found out why. It never worked, therefore was never used. This piece of JUNK does not work with XP, and apparently from all the other reviews (and searching myself) Philips has not released drivers for XP. After searching Philips website, it appears they tried to cover up making this drive. I only wish I had did my homework (reading reviews) before placing a bid.

1-0 out of 5 stars Never worked, and customer support sucks
Bad dirve, bad service. Will never touch phlips computer hardware again. They said they will call you back with a solution, they never did. And it happened more than once.
(BTW, I am a computer geek. Do not tell me I do not know how to install a cdrw drive. It even wont recongize a music cd).

1-0 out of 5 stars No driver for XP
I cannot find the XP driver for the PCRW804K17 CD-RW Drive. All of my searches found other users looking. No luck on Philips' website. Perhaps I'll try to email them, or use their live assistance; but I don't think I'll have any better luck than the other countless users who failed in this approach.

I WILL NEVER BUY A PHILIPS PRODUCT EVER AGAIN!!
