Amazon.com Product Description

What can't you use a scanner for these days? Whether you're archiving old family heirloom photos or emailing a print article to a friend across the country, the Canon Lide35 scanner does what you need it to do, easily, without taking up much valuable desktop space. A patented Z-lid design allows you to smoothly accommodate thicker originals like magazines and yearbooks, even though the scanner itself measures just 1.5 inches thick. A stand is included to store it in an upright position, and a single cable supplies power and a USB connection. Even better, the cable's included in the box.

Both color and monochrome images come through cleanly, thanks to a 1,200 optical dpi and an interpolated resolution of 9,600 x 9,600 dpi. The included pack of scanning software provides you with plenty of options for storing, sending, and retouching; the scanner will automatically take care of scratches or lint on your originals, freeing your time to let you organize rather than repair them. Canon includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

3-0 out of 5 stars Home device
Just bought it to replace Lexmark X75.
Quality wice it is a little better.
Text printing much faster.
Photo printing seems in 3-4 times faster
and quality is better.
It is a little bit noisy.
Scanning software has some advanced features
for scanning photo but slow.
In general device initialization is slow.
Printing block comprises of printing frame and two
ink tanks. So ink is chipper but if frame will be
dust I have no idea if I can buy a new one.
Paper doc is weak. Still don't know if it supports
USB 2.0. TWAIN driver seems not universal.
Other Canon software shows it in a list but do not
recognize.
Can do copy without computer.
I general good device. Can not be beat for the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Which Canon Multifunction is right for you?
First off, if you're in the market for a printer, you can't go wrong with a Canon.Canon printers consistently beat out the competition in independent tests for print quality.Their items are elegant, well designed, and most importantly, ink is affordable.

We all know the razor and blade scheme: sell the printer below cost and make it up with pricey cartridges.Canon, however, saves you a lot of money by including the print head with the printer and not on each cartridge.Because of this, genuine Canon cartridges can be had for around $12, while 3rd party cartridges, which many claim work just as well, can be found for as low as $2.

If you've already decided on a Canon multifunction, lets see which model is right for you.Canon's current market list is as follows:

MP130 - New model, and the most affordable yet.
Copy/Print/Scan
18ppm black, 13ppm color
2 ink tanks
No auto sheet feeder!
Card slots

MP390 - Has a fax, About half the cost of the MP7xx's.
Copy/Print/SCan/Fax
18ppm black, 12 ppm color
2 ink tanks
card slots

MP750 - Older model - exactly the same as mp780 but no fax.
Copy/Print/Scan
25ppm black, 17 ppm color
5 ink tanks
Built in Duplexing

MP760 - New Model - geared towards photo enthusiasts.
Copy/Print/Scan + Special Photo Features
25ppm black, 17 ppm color
5 ink tanks
No auto sheet feeder!
Built in Duplexing
*Unique photo features:
2.5 inch lcd screen
Built in film adapter for 35mm slides or negatives
can print directly from negatives
Card slots

MP780 - Does it all except for the mp760 photo features.
Copy/Print/Scan/Fax
25ppm black, 17 ppm color
5 ink tanks
Built in Duplexing

Now, let's look more closely at some key differences between these models:

*Fax: The first thing you should do is decide if you need a fax or not. If you do, you should choose between the MP780 or the MP390.If not, don't rule those two out just yet, they may have have other features you can't live without.

*Note: There is NO auto fax/telephone switching on these models if you wish to use the same line for faxes and voice calls.

*Number of ink tanks: The next important thing you should look at is whether you want to be able to replace each color individually or not.The MP750, MP760 and MP780 all have 5 individual ink tanks (photo black, black, cyan, yellow, magenta), while the MP130 and MP390 have only 2 (black and tricolor). The cost of each cartridge is about the same, but you will waste some leftover ink by throwing out the MP130 or MP390's color cartridge when just one color runs out.

*Photo printing: If you're planning on printing a lot of photos, you should probably go with an mp7xx.These have a superior print head, as well as the 5 separate ink tanks. The MP760 is especially noteable with all the features Canon has added specifically for photos. These come at a price however, as the MP760 does not share the auto sheet feeder of its MP750 and MP780 cousins, or the fax of the 780.

*However - If you plan on printing directly from memory cards, beware! The mp750 and mp780 do not have card slots! The 2 cheaper models and the mp760 do.

*Auto sheet feeder: The mp130 and mp760 do NOT have an auto sheet feeder. All 3 of the others do.An auto sheet feeder is very useful when doing a lot of scanning or faxing.

*Duplexing: The mp7xx models each have built in duplexing.

*Size: The mp7xx models weigh around 30 pounds and are quite big.The MP390 is a smaller, and weighs 18 pounds. The mp130 has a tiny footprint for a multifunction printer, and weighs 14 pounds.

Some features that all of Canon's current MFPs share:

*Copying: Each of these models has a copy function, and all have the same resolution (600x600 black, 1200x1200 color).
*USB 2.0 connection
*Pictbridge direct photo printing support
*All 5 models are great looking and will complement almost any decor.

My recommendations:

If you want a great price on an excellent printer and don't need a fax: MP130

If price is an issue but you still need a fax: MP390

If you can afford an MP700 series and don't need a fax, card slots, or the MP760's photo features: MP750

If you need its exclusive photo features (but no fax or auto sheet feeder): MP760

If you can afford an MP700 series and need a fax (but no card slots and none of the MP760s photo features): MP780 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable value
This is my second Canon color inkjet. The first is just a printer, but based on my positive experience wiht that, I was confident in buying a Canon this time around as well. That confidence was reinforced with the MP730.

In a nutshell, the positives are:

- Surprisingly quick printing for an injet, even in color. Faster than the laser from just a few years ago that it replaces

- Excellent print quality -- tested it with color photos at full size and it's outstanding

- Very slick design... small footprint on the desk and looks good too.

- Both a flatbed AND fed copier -- this is very cool. I prefer to use the feeder most of the time (which is what my old multifunction had), but sometimes, if I'm copying a book or something, I wish I had a flatbed. This does both, again in a very compact size.

- Great Canon software and utilities for printing and other tasks

- Individually replaceable ink cartridges (saves money).

Just an outstanding unit -- I would have expected it to cost 2-3x it's price point.

The only downside, and this is a downside of inkjets generally, not the Canon specifically, is that ink is expensive and runs out faster than you think. Over the course of a couple years owning it, the cost of ink will likely outpace the cost of the printer itself.

But if you're deciding among multifunction units and among inkjets, this is a very good pick.

4-0 out of 5 stars Outsanding performance but....bulky, photo quibble
I've just set up the printer today, so this is my initial impression after playing with it.

I love it! It is a bit larger than I expected, mainly because angled paper tray at rear makes it take up a lot of depth (22.5 inches). Text output is OUTSTANDING and fast (up to 22ppm), but like all things in life, it comes with a small but noticable compromise. Although the photos are quite stunning, any areas with dark black have droplets that are visible (only if you look closely) but otherwise the image is stunning and very sharp. For professional quality photo output I would recommend a dedicated photo printer (check out Canon i950)but note that it is not optimized for text (I believe it prints text around 2 pages per minute. Also, if you do intensive document scanning, it seems a bit slow when using the document tray on top. There is also quite a bit of annoying beeping going on (pushing buttons, completed faxes, that I hope I can turn off...)

If you want a home office beast of burden that can handle a variety of tasks with very high quality results, this is it!

Helpful notes:
1. If it makes funny clicking noises and the phone you plug into it does not always work, and your faxes just stall with continuous beeping, switch the phone lines in back...oops!
2. If you are upgrading from an older printer, you will need to purchase a USB 2.0 cable (not included)

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a Gem
Ok granted I've only had the unit a week or so...but it's been a really good week. Easy to get running and works like a dream, fax, scanner and copy unit are great and just printed out about a dozen foto's. This is a great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars No need to look further, I already did it for you
I am a small business owner and bought the 730 for fax reasons mainly. I got a whole lot more than I paid for. This thing is great.

The photo print quality is awesome, it prints damn fast on all settings, has a flat bed, and you can reload the ink tubs individually. I looked at the HPs, the Epsons, the everbody elses, and this one took the cake. It doesnt come with an interconnect cord, so go to best buy get one before you try to hook the 730 up. It is large, so check your desk space before you buy.

For those of you with voicemail from your phone company - as opposed to an answering machine- you will need to get a distinctive ring pattern for the fax to pick up the call. The DRP usually is a double ring as opposed to a single ring. The machince recognizes this as a fax and picks it up. If the caller is a normal voice caller, your phone will do the normal single ring, and you will either pick up the call or let it go into voicemail.

The DRP is a second phone line into your house, but it will work on the same phone line as your voice line and is very cheap. So, only 1 call at a time or 1 fax at a time. I had to do some homework to figure this out, so pay attention and save yourself some time.

I would buy this again in a heartbeat if I open a second office. Amazon also has the best price for the 730, even better than what you can find on Ebay.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best multifunction out there!
I did a month of research before buying this multifunction printer. I really wanted something to do it all. It had to do decent faxing, plus serve my needs for scanning and copying as well. I already have a high-end photo printer, so basic printing was fine for me.

This did all I hoped for and then some. The Fax worked great, I hooked it up to my home phone system and it does a great job of detecting voice versus fax calls and switching them appropriately. You'll hear the answering machine pick up for a second when sending a fax to it, but that's a very minor nit. Quality of the fax is nice. I did notice that it only redials 3 times on a busy signal, but I hope to find a function to set that higher. The document feeder is essential, you'll find a lot of multifunctions do not include one and you have to load the pages one at a time. It also has a nice cover for the paper feeder in the back, a nice feature if you do not print a lot.

Scanning is considerably slower than my old flatbed to get high quality but the results look good. Anything less than high quality is not that great, but fine for anything but photos.

The printing quality is not quite as good as my dedicated photo printer, but I doubt most home office users would notice. You'll still get very decent photos and color printing out of this, certainly far better than most multifunctions. It's good enough that if I did not already have a high end color injet, I probably would be fine with this one.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this printer and recommend it highly. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Canon's 12x36 Image Stabilization II binoculars incorporate an optical image stabilizer for shake-free viewing with minimal eye fatigue. This technology was first developed for Canon video camcorders and is now available in many of Canon's binoculars. The system employs a Vari-Angle Prism, dual transparent plates, independent vertical and horizontal sensors, and a dedicated microprocessor to continuously adjust the prism to maintain a steady image.

These 12x36 Image Stabilization II binoculars feature a water-resistant rubber coating for nonslip holding. If you get caught in light rain, you don't have to worry about the optics fogging up or getting ruined. These binoculars deliver high magnification, long eye relief, and wide-field viewing. Controls for focusing and image stabilization are centrally located and are accessible by both hands.

Improvements to the objective lens assembly have resulted in the binoculars being approximately 26% lighter and 10% smaller than the previous 12x36 IS model they replace. And reductions in power consumption mean a massive 270% increase in battery life of up to four hours using two AA-size alkaline batteries.

Image Stabilization and More
With any high magnification binoculars, most users will experience frustrating image shake. Unless fixed to a tripod, image shake can render high magnification binoculars useless. Canon's IS technology is remarkably effective at eliminating this problem and is widely used by the television industry with Canon's professional broadcast quality video recording equipment. A special VAP (Vari-Angle Prism) corrective IS system sits between the objective lens group and the porro prism on each side of the binoculars. Within thousandths of a second of the binoculars being moved from their optical axis by vibrations, a detection system activates the IS mechanism. The VAP shape alters to refract or 'bend' the light path by precisely the right amount, thus fully compensating for the vibration. It is this essentially immediate response that effectively suppresses image shake. The binoculars' compact design is based on Canon's popular 10x30 IS model. Curved surfaces mean easy handling, while nature lovers will appreciate the low-reflectance exterior and low gloss front covers, which help to avoid disturbing birds and other

What do the numbers mean?
15x50? 8x25? The two numbers used to describe any pair of binoculars are their magnification — 8x, 12x, 15x and so on — and the diameter of their objective lenses — 25mm, 36mm, 50mm, and so on. The larger the first number is, the larger the object will appear to be in the objective lens. For instance, if you use a 10x lens and look at an object that is 100 yards away, it appears to be the same size as an object located just 10 yards away. The second number, the size of the objective lens, is important because the larger the objective lens, the more light it can admit for brighter, more detailed images, and the better suited they will be for lowlight situations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good camera for daytime photos; not so good for night photos
This is a compact camera with solid metal construction.Startup times and shutter lag are extremely fast for a digital camera.Daytime and flash pictures are excellent.Macro pictures of flowers are pretty sharp.I'm also happy that the camera runs on AA batteries. Low light focusing is very good.Nightime pictures illuminated by street lights are okay when the camera automatically chooses a shutter speed of 1/8 sec and ISO of 250.However, anything darker than that requires the use of the nighttime scene best shot mode.Under nighttime scene best shot mode, the camera chooses a shutter speed greater than 1/8 sec.Often it may chose between 2-4 seconds, which means that one absolutely needs a tripod to avoid image blur caused by camera shake. It would have been nice if the camera offered manual control of the shutter and aperature settings because I can take reasonably shake-free photos up to a shutter speed of 1/2 sec and sometimes I don't want the camera to automatically chose a shutter speed longer than I think is necessary.Another annoyance is that the noise reduction system takes on average about ten seconds to process long exposure pictures. I suppose this frustration made me to return the camera and get a Canon A85 camera with manual controls instead even though the Canon A85 operates slower than the Casio QV-R62. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect!
I'm very happy with this purchase. I've had it for a month now and it has worked flawlessly. It takes great stills, on par with other 5mp cameras, but that's not why I got it.I wanted something that could do decent stills & videos - so I wouldn't need my camcorder anymore. The vids are not quite as good as a DV camcorder, but I'll settle for 90% of dv camcorder quality for the joy of leaving the camcorder at home. Another thing - tape sucks! It takes forever to get a movie on tape into my computer for editing/burning.Saving movies on a SD card rocks!

My only gripes are the included software and camera computer interface.
Each time you take a movie clip, it is saved on teh SD card as a seperate mpeg4 file. That's OK, except Casio doesn't include an easy way to link the clips together again. The included Movie Wizard software will let you link together clips, but you must save them as dv or mpeg1/2 files which are much bigger and the conversion process is very slow. I searched the net and found a program called avi joiner to quickly splice together mpeg4 clips.
As for the camera computer interface, I have had trouble moving large video files from the camera to my HDD. The process errors out and I get a message that the connection to the camera is lost. I have to cycle power on the camera and try again. I always get them off eventually, but it is a pain. I haven't tried it with a different computer, so it might not have anything to do with the camera.

But overall I am very happy with the EX-P505

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! Great Photo Printer For Just A Bit More Than New Ink
My old HP 880C needed new ink cartridges but I felt the money spent on ink (forty - fifty dollars) would be better spent towards a new, up-to-date technology printer. Man, prices have come down in the five years since I got the HP. Print quality has gone the opposite way (way up). This printer prints FANTASTIC photos. The sample Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy prints are indistinguishable from lab prints...in many ways they're even better because you can crop/frame exactly what you want and print only the shots you really like. I love this printer. Right now, Amazon sells a 50 pack of the Canon 4x6 photo paper plus for just under 8 bucks with free super saver shipping on twenty-five dollar orders. In addition, consider that this printer has separate ink cartridges and relatively cheap ink prices and you can't go wrong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great printer for price!
I just bought the i560 last week when my BJ2000 died. I use my printer frequently for school papers and this printer prints very crisp, clear letters. More recently, I started using it to print out pictures. My BJ2000 could also do pictures, but not near as well as this printer. I used the Canon 4x6 Photo Paper Plus Glossy sample that came with the printer and was very impressed with the quality of the pictures. They looked at least as good as the ones I get when I send them out to be developed. It also has some great tools to optimize photos which gives you an even better picture. The only drawback that I have found so far is that pictures don't seem to come out as 'pretty' if you use general purpose photo/imaging film. Glossy photos seem to come out the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Value I've Found
For speed, print quality, quiet operation, long ink cartridge life, and versitility this bets the Epson, HP, Lexmark, and Panasonic competition by far. I've been using the i560 for 11 months and have no complaints. I sold all my other printers at a yard sale last spring and haven't missed any of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars You cant do better for your money
My last printer from a few years back was an Epson. At first the printer was good then there was the dreaded clogged print head which frequent Epson printers. After that I swore that my next printer would have the option of replacing the print head. Fast forward a few years forward and I purchased the i560 with complete budget on mind. I wasnt expecting anything other than an average printer, when I began using the unit I found that its more than an average printer.

Good:
Borderless printing on glossy paper is amazing with this unit even at 8x11.5 paper. The printer has a decent build and the seperate color tanks is a fantastic. Text printing has been the majority of the printing use for this unit but photos from my 2MP camera look amazing on the 4x5 photo plus paper.

Bad:
As with any product you can find flaws. Borderless prints will have a very thin line (as thin as a strand of fine hair) at the bottom of the print. This is mostly noticable if your looking for it and if its on black. From what I understand when printing photos it doesnt use the black ink but the combination of the 3 colors to produce black.

In either cases these are not major issues and shouldnt stop anyone from purchasing this unit if your in the sub 100 range for a printer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great little printer
I just bought this and I am really impressed. I have used only Epson printers before this and finally dumped them because the print heads always jammed or it ran out of ink after having to repeatedly clean the heads. I came to a point where I needed a new ink cartridge for my Epson 785EPX and they were $50 for 2 at CostCo OR I could buy a new Canon i560s for $80 and ink is only $30 for 2 (all CostCo prices). Well I bought the Canon and will never go back to Epson.

First, the Canon has a replaceable print head. So if it every wears out or gets clogged you can replace the print head and don't have to toss the whole printer. 2nd, its very quiet - much, much less noisy than that my Epsons. 3rd, the print quality is very, very good. B&W text is laser quality but print speed seemed a little slow (maybe I had it on high quality). Color images print surprisingly fast - faster than on the Epson and Web pages with mixed text and colored items print extremely quickly. 4th, I agree with another reviewer who says the ink cartridges don't have chips in them. So I assume that this printer will continue to let you print if one tank is out of ink. The most annoying thing with Epson is that if you are out of color ink, the printer will not print - not even B&W text until you replace the color ink! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Small, Convenient, Works Great!!
The Canon BJC-85 is a small, lightweight printer that is easy to pack and works wonderfully well. It has both parallel and USB connections for PC's or MAC's. The quality of the black text printing is very good - especially when you consider the small size and light weight of this printer. The color printing is also amazingly good. The software loads easily, and I had mine up and running in a matter of minutes attached to my laptop. You'll need to buy either a parallel or USB cable, since it isn't included. Canon has the best reputation, by far, of all the brands who make portable printers and this is their newest model. This is really a terrific little printer that is well worth the price for people on the road who need to print from their laptops.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just what I was looking for..
This printer is a convenient size for someone with limited desk space or for taking it with you when traveling. The battery pak mentioned that can be used with this printer is available through DELL. It may take a bit of searching to find it. Click on Printers, then look for the Canon BJC-85, then click on more details under the printer icon, then related products on the next screen. It does not state for BJC-85 but it is the correct battery pack or ask Dell for reassurance, I did! I have been very pleased with the print quality of such a small printer, even the graphics are great. For Word Processing that requires mostly black ink, use the large BCI-10 Ink Cartridge it is better than the small black tank you use with color printing. I have not been able to locate the Infrared Driver for it does anyone know where that can be acquired? I am more than pleased with this quality and size of this printer.

4-0 out of 5 stars Print Word Documents From Your Palm
If you add DataVid's Documents To Go 4.0 (available from Amazon) to your Palm; and if you also add Docs To Print and IR Print (available from doctoprint.irprint.com); you can then -- work on -- and print MS Word files from your Palm to the Canon BJC-85 via IR (infrared) -- no cords or PC required.

The printing I get when using my Palm and Canon BJC-85 isn't letter quality. But the Canon BJC line of printers are the smallest, most portable letter-size printers available today. And being able to -- work on -- and print MS Word presentations and proposals from my Palm while on the road is extremely convenient.

(The above software combination, incidentally, will enable you to also print to other IR capable printers such as desktop models from HP and portable A6 paper-size units from Sipix.)

The BJC-85 also provides the option of swapping out the color cartridge -- and replacing it with a much larger black cartridge -- which is very helpful, especially since the ink capacity on this printer is quite limited.

(As a watch-out: be sure to aim your Palm at the Canon BJC-85's IR port from at least seven inches away, otherwise the connection won't be made. I learned this after e-mailing someone at Docs To Print, who was most helpful.)

Being able to print letter-size documents on the road directly from my Palm is another good reason to leave my heavy laptop computer -- at home -- where it belongs!

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor paper feed
I have owned BJC 70 and BJC 80. Both have difficulty feeding automatically. I have had to guide each single piece of paper in order for the feed to catch.

I have also gone through a power supply. Currently my power button is not operating and cannot turn on.

I paid the high price of $300 for dependabilty thinking that it was reliable but the variety of mechanical failures have caused me to look for another brand name. I do love the portability design, but I guess design does not equate with dependability.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, with one discrepancy (sp?)
This is a good quality printer. I like it. There's only one thing I don't like. The ink tanks (cartridges) are small. It seems like I'm always putting in a new one. And of course, they have to have all three colors in one tank so that the remaining ink of the other two colors gets wasted. At least the tanks are cheap. ... Read more

This comes highly recommended. However, print your most important pictures at the beginning of the cartridge, because as it runs down, the picture quality decreases.

Since the process is dye-sublimination, you don't get those ink jet spots, and smearing that you get even from the finest photo printers. The cartridge is easily slipped into the printer, and the paper put in the paper tray. After three passes, yellow, red, blue, you get an extremely nice snapshot to pass out. 5-0 out of 5 stars Professional Quality Photos
I love having my own photo lab at home! This printer is simply fantastic and produces photos that look great. In fact, I can hardly tell the difference from the photos printed with my CP-330 and the ones I've had professionally developed. Photos come out incredibly sharp and colorful.

My favorite feature on this printer is the fact that I can plug my camera directly into it to print a photo that was taken mere moments before. It is so much fun to take photos and then almost immediately be able to have and share a print of it.

If you are looking for an easy to use, high quality photo printer, this would be the perfect choice.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good little printer!
I like the clear protective coating on the paper. Seems to be waterproof, which I can't say for the other brand of printer that I looked at. I wish it were easier to find the sizes of paper other than 4x6, though, especially since the printer comes with a 4x8 tray. ... Read more
