Not conpatable with XP operating system.
This multipass C5500 is a very good all-in-one machine. I recently purchased a new Dell computer, but this machine is not compatable with the XP os. I need to sell this one and buy another multifunction that will work with my new computer. I have the original box it came in, the software, documents and extra black cartridge still in the package, unopened, that goes to the successful buyer. This machine is in excellant condition and have never had any problems with it . I am the only owner. I purchased it new. Thank you for your interest. Daniel Rogers

not a great product
The printer, copy, and scan functions all work great. I have only tried to fax a couple times and couldn't get it to work. The ink cartridges run dry frequently, one went out in only 11 days. I am not sure if it is because the cartridge dries that fast or because the print head gets clogged quickly and thinks its dry. Even with cleaning the print head it still runs out of ink too fast.

Hardware Fab! Software Bad!
I have had the C5500 for almost 2 years now and have discovered all its faults and advantages. It is really no different from any other All-In-One device. At the time we bought it, there was only one other choice, the HP OfficeJet 500 (which we already own). The colors are marvelous, the blacks are also very good. It isn't that fabulous for sending faxs or making monocolour copies, but that's what I use my scanner for.

A very nice feature to the C5500 is AnsMode, where if you plug your answering machine through the unit, you can send faxes to the answering machine, but the unit will pick up and recieve the fax as normal.

But the reason i didn't give it 5 stars is the software. The unit is completely useless without the software. While you can copy and recieve/send faxes to a degree without the software, you cannot print as another printer similar to other printers. The software is often very problematic and sometimes doesnt start up properly, making you restart or plug a different printer into the unit. The software also crashes a lot both on Win98 and WinME machines. If you misplace the CD (I could've sworn I left it on the counter) it's a 40MB download just to make it work!!!

Unfortunately, the software gives the C5500 a bad reputation with me. If the software were re-designed it would earn the C5500 a 5 star rating because the unit is really and truly wonderful.

A Cheapy All-In-One Printing Package
I use this Canon machine mostly for printing, and copying use. However, this can only scan sheets as there is no area on the machine to print bulky books. I was dissappointed this fact. It prints well when there is ink, but I have to constantly buy a lot of ink cartridges because it runs out quickly. Although the price might sound appealing, a higher priced all-in-one machine might be a better buy.

Found this version of the multipass to be a reliable machine. But it DOES USE ALOT OF INK! If you think of purchasing the multipass do yourself a favor and get the 6000 series which is the laser copier. ... Read more

Great scanner for photos, negatives, and text.
This was my first experience with a scanner, and it does everything I expected with absolutely no glitches. I wanted a scanner for all-around use, including scans of photos, negatives, and text, with photo-quality resolution. The scanner was easy to setup and is easy to use. I'm still discovering the capabilities of the included ArcSoft PhotoStudio software, but is certainly easy to get started with. The Caere OCR program works well in scanning files to Word. The negatives: scans on highest resolution are slow, and scanning negatives requires the removal of a sliding cover on the inside of the lid to expose a built-in backlight. All in all, I'm extremely happy with how well and how easily this scanner works.

Excellent, Excellent scanner.
This scanner was a replacement for my Mustek 1200 that I had recently bought and was dissatisfied with the quality of output. The Canon D660U, though not as fast as the Epson Expression 636 I use at work, has better output quality. This scanner is PERFECT for my home and business needs. The ability to scan 35mm slides and negatives is an added plus. Although I still use Adobe Photoshop to edit all my graphics, the software that comes with the D660U is every bit as good. The included Ceare Omnipage OCR software is top notch. This is an easy to use, high quality scanner package that everyone should be happy with.

Dust Inside, aka DOA
When you get it, check the inside glass with flash light before you plug it in. Mine was peppered with grime and dust; Scans show these as white specks everywhere! I'm returning this product from company that does no quality checks on its product.

Mine also had DOA film scanner.

You can be sure I'll try to avoid all future canon products.

Veeery sloooow!!
I just purchased a 660U scanner. After a 20 minute trial I decided to return it and get my money back. It takes 6 minutes (yes six minutes) to scan a single negative in high res mode. This is absolutely useless

Almost perfect
I purchased this scanner for the 35mm negitive scanning. I wasn't disappointed. I setup the machine, installed the software and was up and running scanning negitives in about 30 Minutes. Very nice negitive scanning at 1200x1200 for the price ( I was not interested in purchasing a 400.00 film scanner). Photo scanning was simular in quality. Overall a good product.
The only thing from making it a 5-Star was the time it took to
scan negitives was about 3 minutes though it seemed like forever. ... Read more
