This CanoScan flatbed scanner delivers 600 x 1,200 resolution in a slim package, just over 1 inch high. It uses a single USB cable for both power and data from any compatible Mac or PC. This scanner offers 42-bit scanning with more than four trillion possible colors. It also has an external programmable button for fast, one-touch scanning.

Another handy feature is Canon's exclusive Z-Lid expansion top, which allows you to scan bulky items, such as books and magazines. Many other scanner covers lift only at an angle and become uneven and awkward when scanning anything that isn't completely flat; the N650U scanner cover includes a special expansion hinge that lifts up to 1 inch vertically and lies flat to create extra space. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars worse than i thought!
the GOOD: lightweight, small, cheap, no power cord...the BAD: scans the flattest paper, 99.9% paper only! horrible software! FOR: beginners and only those scanning the flattest objects!

i got the CanoScan N650U because of such overwhelming positive reviews, then i bought it and tried it - easy to install and started scanning. it is NOT AS GOOD as the majority online says it is. from the reviews i read, it was suppose to be quiet, fast and easy to use.'s not exactly that. i even contacted Canon, who said they would reply back with help in 2-3 days; it's been over a week.

it's almost louder than my old scanner, a Umax Astra 1220S and crashes alot more on Window2000! the N650U scans at a good speed, though i had hoped faster for USB. while i do admire it's size and design, i despise it's scanning program and even it's scanning ability, or lack of i should say.

the N650U only scans well if you have a perfectly flat object [99.9% paper material] on the surface. if u do not have a flat object and you scan, u will get the blurrest image!!! i'm talking about the slightest wrinkle in the paper, and the N650U will see it as a BIG blur! this scanner is ONLY for the flattest object, dont think of using it for magazines that are creased or such, you will get blurs at the crease.

compared to my 1220S, the N650U is a lost cause! the photos scanned do not appear as clear as my 1220S and have white specks on the scans, even after i cleaned the glass surface! while the N650U saves space, it doesn't save the user from agony and professional use. it is overall a waste of money unless you are a pre-beginner at scanning and only scan flat paper images, which turn out decent.

my 1220S does a good job of scanning everything! flat objects and 3D objects! the only reason i thought of buying another scanner is because i wanted to use the USB port rather than a SCSI port. and that my scanner is bulky compared to the N650U...but now that i've tried another scanner that seemed really nice but wasnt, i am definitely returning the N650U, then either stay with my old scanner or buy another brand.

while the N650U looks beautiful on your desktop, it's not quite useful enough for a true designer working with graphics, drawings, etc. and for under 100$, there is NO such thing as high quality in this scanner. better to try another brand [first] and compare the results.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great basic scanner
I am very impressed with this scanner. It is my first, so I don't have much to compare it to, but it worked extremely well once I figured a few things out. One thing you should be aware of; since this unit is powered only through the USB cable, Canon strongly recommends that you do not use a longer cable than the one supplied with the scanner. It's about 5' long, which should be long enough for most. Also, as others have stated, it should only be connected to a direct USB port on your computer.(not a hub, or "daisy chained" with other USB devices). Instalation was easy. Just follow the instructions in order. The software is easy to learn if you have the time to play with it. I didn't, so I went to Arcsoft's web site and downloaded the manual. My first scan was a 3.5" x 5" color photo. I set the res at 600 dpi. It took a LONG time. Then I realized I had the scan size set at 8.5" X 11" (duh). It was scanning the entire flatbed. Once I adjusted the scan size, it scanned the same photo, at the same res, in only about 20 seconds. And it's whisper quiet. I have read others complain that that it won't scan 3-D objects well at all. It probably wont. It uses entirely different technology than older "brighter" scanners which need a separate power cord. I don't see this as a problem for me, as 99% of my scans will be photos or text pages. I would recomed this product to anyone.

3-0 out of 5 stars worked great until the glass broke
I had this scanner for a couple years. I thought it worked really good. I used it mainly for scanning pictures, and they were very sharp. Then one day the glass shattered into hundreds of tiny pieces with no apparent explaination.

3-0 out of 5 stars works OK but some limitations
Unlike some of the others with this unit, I had no trouble installing and using it (one I got the right drivers, that is -- J&R Music world initially sent me the wrong disk, grrr).

Though it runs a little slow, it does make reasonably clean scans, and makes MUCH less clutter on and behind my desk than most other machines, which is why I bought it.

People need to know, however, that the lens has crummy depth-of field, which means that anything that is not dead flat against the glass will look fuzzy. My previous scanner could make acceptable images of small three-dimensional objects; this one won't.

Also, the color balance is kind of off, too blue-tinged. With my Paint Shop Pro, I need to subtract a little blue and add a little red to the scans to make them look like real life.

I assume that both these problems (poor depth of field and color imbalance) come from the dim scanning lamp neccesitated by the low power available to the unit.

The Canon MultiPass C755 multifunction peripheral is whole lot of functions rolled into one. It's a color Bubble Jet printer, fax machine, copier, and scanner. You can save money and space in your office with this high-performance multitasking machine.

As a Bubble Jet printer, the C755 features individual ink tanks, meaning you replace just the color that runs out, not an entire cartridge. A special optical sensor alerts you with a message on your screen that you are about to run out of ink, so you can change your cartridge before you end up high and dry.

The C755 prints incredibly fast, up to 9 ppm in black (using the optional BC-30e black BJ cartridge) and up to 4 ppm in color, so you can get through jobs quickly. Then, if you need to, you can whisk them away using the machine's faxing capability--which operates faster than most standard fax machines. At up to 33.6 Kbps, you can fax a page in just 3 seconds. 4-0 out of 5 stars Canon multifunction printer
I upgraded to this printer from an older Canon multipass machine that a few years ago cost me more than 2x as much and did much less. This printer has black and white and color copying, scanning and printing. It is a good size, easy to use and has ink tanks that are seperate for each color, so you just replace what you need. I have had mine for about 2 months and haven't had any problems with it. Pictures print quickly and are pretty sharp. I think this is a great printer to use at home as I do for my basic household computer printing, and I make many copies which is great too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Printer Ever
If my sister askes whether to buy this C755 Multipass, my answer is, "Darn forget it." Yest it prints, scans, faxes and photo copies. But that's it. Quallity of printing (whatever it is black, color, faxing or copying), is almost tragic. There are very notable thinny line between one horizontal ink spread and another. Another agony is popping up when you leave it out for a relatively long period of time. Ink or nozzle (I don't know what actually cause problem) are sticking up and it produces jagged letters or images which is very unsmooth. Scanning quallity? It's even no better than today's digital cameras which many cell phones arm with. Last pitfall is it needs on-memory utility software turned always on. Considering the large memory size of today's computers, the on-memory residencial utility program could not be a big issue. Yet, it makes lots of problem such as scarry blue screen and reasonless system stop with certain applications. I manually dragged the utility out from my start-up list for trouble shooting and reenter it when I needed printing. All in all, I gave it away to somebody and I'm so happy about it.

1-0 out of 5 stars don't do it!!!!!!
We purchased this printer while still running windows98. It has NEVER worked correctly. We have since upgraded to windowsXP and the problems are even worse. The print quality is terrible. The top of page one of nearly everything is a mess. This machine is NOT user friendly at all so if you are the least bit intimidated by copying, faxing, scanning, etc, then DO NOT buy this. I wish that I could give it zero stars. I would recommend this only as a "hand me down" to a preschooler who doesn't know or care about the quality. Then again, maybe not.

1-0 out of 5 stars MultiNONfunction - software support is TERRIBLE
I've had compatability issues with this printer/fax/copier/scanner from the first time I tried to install it. I've tried using it with Windows 98, 2000, NT and now XP. NEVER EVER EVER has anything worked the way Canon says it will. The scanner software creates errors in Excel and Access when it's installed. The fax sending software never worked - I ended up printing every fax I needed to send. The faxes sent manually mis-feed if there's more than 1 page. The print quality is spotty at best. Half the time, there's just splotches of ink instead of text. Forget about printing photos of any kind. Print speed is terrible - the cartridge runs back and forth and churns about 6 times before it starts feeding paper in, if it even does this. Making copies works o.k., but mostly it seems to work, the ink cartridge moves back and forth for about 1 min., then a "CHECK DOCUMENT" error flashes up and you have to start the whole process again.
I have been working with computers, printers, networks, etc. very heavily since 1992. No piece of hardware has ever been so frustrating.
So of the 4 'functions' on this machine, none work as expected. And Canon's tech support for this product is slow, and hasn't solved any of these problems.

1-0 out of 5 stars think twice
Think twice about what you need in a printer, because I did not and purchased the Canon Multipass C755 Multifunction System. I was going to use it mainly for printing/faxing resumes, scanning/printing family color photos, and simple copies for various projects.
This machine can not even make a simple copy without the lines becoming crooked and the words squished together. The color copies were okay, but nothing spectacular, I have not used the fax machine, because it does not work. The entire machine does not work after a year of purchase. It is dead and not worth the time to have it repaired. I have wasted my money on Canon. I do not recommend this product. There are better products out there. Needless to say, I've learned a lesson and purchased a an HP :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Good Canon Product
I'm thrilled with my Canon i250 inkjet. It has performed flawlessly for a month now. My two teenagers are happy with it also and today is the first time that I have had to replace the black ink cartridge. For an economy priced printer, this one does it all without complaint. The quality of the print, both color and black, is good as well as the speed of the printing. It makes a bit of a racket when printing but you quickly learn to live with the clanky noise. I've had no paper jams so far which is good. The printer is compact and will fit into a small space. The ink cartridges are reasonably priced which is another plus. The USB is not included so be prepared to buy one. All told, I've had a positive experience with this printer and I would not hesitate to buy another.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super Printer!
The Canon i250 is marvelous. My old HP died, and I wanted an inexpensive printer now because I expected at a later date to buy a new computer and a higher tech printer. Now I need neither. In other words, the Canon i250 allows me to print wonderfully what I thought only higher tech/higher priced printers would! I've been able to print greeting cards, as well as photos and crisply clear documents. The i250 only takes seconds to warm up, and each print job is done quickly and beautifully. This printer allows one to choose a variety of print qualities and paper types to ensure the best print for each job. Set up was super easy, as is the printer's use. And noise? It's not excessive; I never even give it a second thought. Along with superb performance and inexpensive price, another great thing about the i250 is that I can buy both a black and a color refill cartridge for it for less than I'd pay for one HP cartridge. What a super printer bargain!

4-0 out of 5 stars A great little printer at a value price
At its value price point, perhaps you can't expect perfection from the Canon i250,(...) I find very few reasons to complain.

First off, the quality of printing was surprising for a standard, 4 ink printer, even on digital photos. For photo prints, does it perform as well as, say, an HP Photosmart 7960 with its 8 inks (which is over 4x the cost)? Of course it doesn't. But for routine use, even on the occasional photo, it's really not bad.

When in its normal printing mode, it's not a speed demon, but it does perform reasonably well, and is typical of printers in its class.

On the up side, consumables for this printer are remarkably affordable, providing somewhat of a disincentive to pursue refill kits. They also seem to have a fair and reasonable number of prints per cartridge change. But if you do choose to refill, I've found the print cartridges in the i250 refill easily and effectively, free of print-counter chips (so popular in Epson's printers these days) that are such a pain.

And speaking of Epson, recent Epson inkjets I've used will end-up with clogged print nozzles if the printer sits unused even for only a couple of days. Not so here; I've gone weeks between prints, and it fires-up and works perfectly each time.

Also a plus is the printer's compact size. While you still need to allow space for paper movement, when not in use, the top folds down and it's small, shoebox size let's you put it most anywhere.

Truly, at this price, almost anyone can afford one, and it'd be money well spent in my book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ink Cartridge is faulty- never worked
terrible, terrible, terrible. I installed the software and all components perfectly. I still kept getting error messages saying the ink cartridges were not installed correctly- which they were. Stay away from this printer. It's not worth the cheap price.

4-0 out of 5 stars ink wells
I think this printer is ideal for me to work from home & do webpage design. I cannot figure how to put ink in when it has run dry though.
Anybody explain it to me please? ... Read more

The CanoScan FB620U seems barely bigger than the documents it scans. However, this little machine is packed with power--it makes high-quality scans of graphics, photos, line art, or text, and offers great imaging and optical character recognition (OCR) software for an incredibly low price.

To set up the CanoScan, we attached the cable to our PC, plugged in the AC adapter, dropped in the CD-ROM, and followed the setup wizard. (If you restart your computer before running the CanoScan's setup wizard, you can cancel the Windows New Hardware Installation wizard that runs automatically.) When following the setup wizard, make sure you indicate that you want to install the 620P, not the 320P whose drivers are also included on the same CD-ROM.

In our tests of the CanoScan, we first conducted preview scans of several documents and images just to get acquainted with the scanner. These preview scans and other low resolution scans (75 dpi) were fast and easy, but high-resolution scans were much slower. Still, the images were sharp and clear, and the final scans were comparable to those of much more expensive scanners.

If you're looking for an inexpensive, light-duty scanner that's easy to set up and learn, the CanoScan makes a fine choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars love that canon
i have been using this scanner for about a month now and i have been having a blast with it. it is very easy to set up and use with the included software. let your imagination fly, with everything that you can do. i highly recommend this product, it's small size was one thing that led me to this scanner,so anyone with limited space for "extras" will like this. i am very pleased with the quality of the images and with a little tweaking i get beautiful photo quality results.

4-0 out of 5 stars I am impressed.
I must admit I was a little unsure about buying one of the lower priced scanners. Canon pleasently suprised me,though. This machine and software were easy to use. Software made it quick to make a copy or send pics. to someone. The scanning speed on pictures was fast. On text documents it was a little slow but if you just want a copy it works fairly fast. Overall I was very impressed with my choice. I did not have any problems setting it up, and it is nice and compact in overall space. The only things I would have liked better would be faster text scan and a top that lifts for larger objects.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent first scanner
Easy hookup to my PC-Pentium II processor. Easy setup, except for several attempts to complete the registration via modem--finally skipped through that and did the registration online. After that, I was quickly on my way, scanning my first photo in minutes. I felt it did a great job. I emailed my photos and response from my friends on the quality were very positive. Excellent choice for first-time scanner purchasers.

Only downside is there is no on/off switch. Overall I'm very satisfied with this scanner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Corporate user scanning 30 to 60 documents a day
We currently have one Canoscan FB620U in use and have ordered another one because of the flexibility and quality that it has offered. The scanning is a little slow going for high defintion but works great for scanning documents. The thing we appreciate the most is being able to control the size of the scanned item. This allows us to maintain more records on a hard drive than what other scanners have allowed us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Scanner
When I bought this scanner, it was about 99 bucks. I am very happy with it. It is very easy to use and hook up. Just follow the quick start guide and your golden. One touch scanning makes scanning quick and simple. Just press a button and select the program to use. It scans up to 1200 DPI which is plenty. It comes with good software- Textbrige Plus, Adobe Photodeluxe Home Edition 3.0, ScanGear CS-U, and Toolbox CS. I don't recommond it for Windows 95.(USB dosn't work good with Win95) If you consider in buying a scanner, I recommend this one! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy Canon!
I purchased my multipass and it was supposed to have a color scanner (the book even said so), but when I called them about it they told me that it was a generic book and that mine was not supposed to have a color scanner. The book doesn't list any other machine except for my Canon Multipass C3500. Then my warning light wouldn't always come one when it was supposed to to tell me that I needed to replace the ink cartridge. And to top it off, my print head needs to be replaced. The reason I say don't buy Canon is because I have seen many of their printers up for sale (not just this particular kind) and every time I ask what is wrong the tell me they need a new print head. I've run into many people on the web with the same problem. If only I knew then what I know now.

2-0 out of 5 stars Multipass equals multiple problems
Like a lot people, I went for something that could do a lot for little money. I knew the risks of buying a machine that can seemingly do everything. Well, I know nothing is a cure-all but I was hopeful.

1. I couldn't use the product for 3 months because of driver problems. I got defective software that included the driver setup. It took 8 weeks for them to send it to me. Took me another month to get it set up.

2. I finally got to use it and then almost immediately started having feed problems with the copy and fax feeders. I had to start manually loading each page of the fax I was sending. If I miscalculated the timing I would wind up sending half of a fax because the machine wouldn't accept subsequent pages.

3. The scanner is VERY poor. I wouldn't even consider it a real scanner. Lots of skipping occurred because this is the same feeder for the faxing and copying I don't think the rollers were built to have that much action. They should have put sturdier rollers/feeders on the machine knowing it was going to be used for so much. If I were using three different machines (i.e. a dedicated copier, fax and scanner) my volume would not be considered that high for each machine. But using the same feeder for all three functions is more than this product can handle unfortunately.

4. I don't like the fact that it doesn't tell me when it's going to run out of ink. Unless, I missed that particular function. But as far as I can tell you just RUN OUT. NO warning. I've learned to "buy ahead" and I used to think it "convenient" that they sold the black ink jet cartridges in pairs, but now I think it's a plot. Canon knows the cartridges have low capacity and/or the machines are greedy.

5. This last problem--the final straw. I came home last weekend after being gone for 5 weeks and "suddenly" the printer feeder isn't working and the function keys are going nuts (possible power surge problem to be fair but everything else is fine and I have a very good power surge protecting hardware). Anyway, called for repair and realized it's two months past my 3 year warranty.

surprise, surprise

These problems weren't constant but seemed to come up at THE most inconvenient times. Good when it worked but it just wasn't consistent enough to be considered a great, reliable product.

Would suggest buying for a college student not a home office--it's reasonably priced enough and should last through most of your student's college career. Also, a college student will have back up computer resources around campus in case of a last minute breakdown.

3-0 out of 5 stars multipass 3500
Its always good to see that a model is still available 3 years later. We have been using this in a light-med duty office for that long. It has really good features for a home office, color copies that look great. Relatively little problems for the three years until now, that it says its out of ink but its a new cartridge. Head cleaning hasn't done the trick. It does eat ink cartridges so be aware!

5-0 out of 5 stars what a deal or should i say steal
this product was economical and affordable to me seeing how i didn't want to spend a lot on a copier fax and scanner all at once i will recommend this to all my friends and family and co workers too.all the other multi function machines did exactly what this ones does but i feel that i was paying for the fancy adds and pictures and not the product itself

3-0 out of 5 stars This Printer "WAS" good in the beginning!
The Canon S450 Printer was working great the first time I bought it. But now it still prints but smudges the ink on the paper when you do. I've tried numerous idea's to make it work without smudging the ink. GO WITH A BETTER PRINTER! excuse my language BUT THIS PRINTER ...!

4-0 out of 5 stars Basically Good Experience with this printer
I purchased this printer about two half years ago from an online
market. It worked for about 2 days, I called Canon and got a replacement and after three cartridge wells exchanges it worked just fine. So, after some tinkering and UPS packages I got mine to work just fine for the next two years. Of course, until last night when my three year spilled a cup of milk into the print bay. I need suggestions for a new printer ;-) Richard

1-0 out of 5 stars A PEACE OF [JUNK]!
When I first purchased the S450 it worked well. Then about 3 months later, the feeder began feeding 2+ sheets through at the same time. I exchanged that unit with Canon and within 1 month I started have the same problem with an added twist, ink smuge. Take my advice, RUN LIKE HELL WHEN YOU SEE THIS PRINTER ON SALE!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Refurbished printer
I ordered my printer on the night of the 23rd of June, and received it by July 1st. That was fast, [inexpensive], and in almost perfect condition. Can't tell the difference from a brand new.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great printer for the price!!!
I bought the Canon S450 because I wanted a step up from the low-end HP printer that came free with my computer. If you are fed up with HP printers, are looking for something that produces good quality output, and don't want to spend a lot of money, this is the printer for you. I had so many problems with ink trails on the HPs I've owned the last few years that I gave up on the HP brand completely. That is one of the big selling points of this printer. I have used it for almost 6 months months now and not once have I had to clean the print heads, even when it goes a few weeks between uses. CNet has rated this printer one of the lowest in operating costs, mostly due to the fact that you can replace each color cartridge individually. (They don't soak you on the cartridges either - some online auctions have them for as little as $6 apiece). I am very happy with both the black and color quality of this printer. I've used it for documents as well as photos and CD labels, and it does a great job.

For the casual user who wants a decent printer that doesn't require a fortune in upkeep or hours of cleaning just to get a good copy, this is definitely the one. ... Read more

The Canon BJC-1000 gives you both affordability and a wide range of color printing options to make the most of your images. It's a great printer for home and family use.

The BJC-1000 comes with Canon's Creative Home software, which makes it easy to make custom greeting cards, calendars, T-shirt art, and more. It handles a wide range of print media, including glossy photo paper, transparencies, banner paper, greeting cards, and even T-shirt transfers.

The Canon BJC-1000 is fairly easy to set up, and comes with a comprehensive, easy-to-follow manual. It gave us sharp, colorful printouts at about two minutes per page in color mode.

The Canon BJC-1000 comes with a standard color cartridge, but also accepts photo-realistic, high-resolution color cartridges, neon color cartridges, and high-resolution black cartridges. While you probably wouldn't use the Canon BJC-1000 for high-volume professional applications, it fits the bill nicely for a home printer--it's especially good for printing photos and greeting cards for friends and family members.

5-0 out of 5 stars BJC-1000 = surprisingly good quality for the priceprice
The 1000 offers a very good quality output, although it is a bit on the slow side. I'm not sure whether the black cartridge, which must be bought separately, is necessary to get the highest resolution output. Also I thought this printer may be a bit difficult for the beginner or casual user to set up.

The range of printing options, e.g. low/high res, color and image enhancement etc. is extensive.

Note that the 1000 requires a bi-directional printer cable.

5-0 out of 5 stars for the price you can't go wrong
It's great for the price and it is compatible with with webtv plus.It was easy to set up and use and is a great basic printer if your like me and always said I'll never use a computer this printer is nice I hooked it up and was glad for the first time I did something on the computer without my ten year old sons help! it prints text well ok image quality and long ink life.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a hunk of crap
Sucked. Clunky piece of junk. Though it only cost me potatos to buy... but it cost me a forture to operate. If you own one do yourself a favor and through it out with the empty ink and buy something economical. $35 for black and it prints... no it bleed ink onto the paper at a rate of 500 pages per tank... AHHHHHH! That's scary. 7 cents a page. Canon please bend me over and take my money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Got this printer for three years
No problem at all. But if you need to print a lot of stuff, you 'd better get a laser printer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great while it lasted
This was a sturdy little printer--for about eighteen months. It was great for documents, so-so with the color, a disaster with
photos, but I used it for basic b/w printing 98% of the time.

Then---sudden death. Something fizzled with the mechanism that moves the cartridge. Repair would run more than the cost of the printer. Wish I could recommend this as more than a back-up machine, but can't. ... Read more
