1-0 out of 5 stars this is no good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We bought this system for our home. We bought it as an investment that we would have for years. Bose is supposed to be some of the best speakers on the market. We have Bose 601 speakers and they are awesome. This system sucks and I wouldn't recomend anyone spending $1,000 on this system. You should go to Wal-mart and buy the cheapest boom box they sale and get the same effect. Please concider what I am saying and try something else. We bought sony and it is much better. If you buy it anyway make sure it has a 100% money back guarantee. Thanks for reading my review.

1-0 out of 5 stars Pretty pathetic system if you ask me.
I am a former BOSE Acustimass 10 owner. When i got into Home theater, I was a newbie and pretty much bought into the marketing power of BOSE. They had the nice little Demonstration stands at Best Buy and at Fry's Electronics, they have the Soundroom that is tweaked to make the Bose sound incredible. Problem is, that room costs hundreds of thousands of dollars of technology to make the BOSE Accoutimass speakers sound that good. I don't have $$$,$$$.$$ to spend on a room. You need to see the EQ equiptment in that room.

Safe to say, I was slightly dissappointed then these speakers did not sound as good in my house as in the store. Still un-deterred, I figured it was my room (of course, it can't be as good as THAT sound room) and they still sound better then some other satellites speakers (though not by much) is why i justifying paying a much higher price.
Little unknown fact: These little cubes cost BOSE about $35.00 to make each double cube speaker. (5x35 = 175.00 plus probably 75 for the bassmodule = $250. This means on a $1000.00 system, the retailer and BOSE is pocketing $750.00 of your dollars)
You can buy replacement drivers on the web for about $35.00 per pair. They are paper cones and plastic casing. http://layneaudio.hypermart.net/specials.htm

The most important thing is, if you have a decent A/V Receiver, you should be able to select "Source Direct" which means the Reciever acts as a pass through, adding no EQ to the music, and just supplies power to the speakers. When playing anything in "Source Direct" mode, these BOSE speakers were the same as a cheap clock radio or the TV speakers. Actually, the TV speakers on my Sony Vega was better. Only if you use EQ, like Jazz Club, or Stereo or something like that did the speakers a little better. This is for music.
I am glad for 1 thing. I was not duped into getting a Bose Lifestyle system. My AVR and DVD separates are much better then the lifestyle box. I mean.. come on BOSE, can't you put a Progressive Scan DVD player in it?

For HT, the accoustimass is slightly better. since they do play squeakly noises good, you are able to get pretty good glass breaking sounds. This is because BOSE has almost no lower midrange sounds to speak of. This way, the sqeaky highs are of course going to sound more defined. The Bass module is way underpowered. You will never get the feel like a real subwoofer. Thats a little dissappointing with the movies and no "boom" effect during explosions. Almost everyone who keeps the AM system will get 1 or 2 subwoofers. (250 to 500 a piece). At that point, you are already almost in 1500.00 area. That puts you direct against some "reference" lines of Klipsch and Polk Audio.

Still, i was not so upset to return the system. I pretty much decided that all speaker systems sound good at the store, but will lose something at the house. It wasn't until recently when I started to learn more about speakers like Polk Audio and Klipsch did I realize what I was missing out on. I bought a new speaker system and sold this BOSE system on EBAY. I am happy that BOSE has good re-sell value due to their extensive marketing. I have a new klipsch system which forced me to re-listen to every music CD that I had to see what i have been missing all this time. Its truly incredible. I had to re-watch my movies on DVD and they all seem more alive and exciting. Much more like the theater. To say the least, if you only listen to BOSE or the stuff at Best Buy, you have little to compare with. The better audio stuff is only a few dollars more, are more flexible and deliver superior performance for the dollar. I guess BOSE will sound better then those cheap 200.00 systems, but only marginally better. I bought a cheap kenwood 206 system for my mother. It under $250.00 and it was very comparable to this Bose system for $999.99 and it came with a A/V Receiver!!! What are you paying for? I guess the rights to those 4 letters... B-O-S-E. For my money... BOSE is not much different from WOES. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Awesome Bose Product
I have been a Bose buyer for quite some time. I started off with noise cancelling headphones then I bought this product and just recently purchased some 601's. If one thing I have learned about Bose is they are committed to having the best sounding products on the market, but more importantly its customer relations. Yes, I have had one minor glitch with this system, however I told them about it and they immediately sent me a brand new system with in two or three days. Bose. Unbelievable sound. Unbelievable service. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is simply amazing.
I'm really not sure what to say about the bad reviews of this product. I can't imagine why anyone would not be impressed by the sound coming from these tiny cube speakers. As they did not mention it in their reviews, I can only assume that the people who were unhappy with their products did not read the instructions (it is fairly simple to figure out) and play the setup DVD that came with it. Before running the AdaptIQ program, the system sounds decent. Then I ran the software and the system literally came alive and adjusted itself perfectly to my room (it's an odd "L" shape and I was getting an unbalanced sound at first).

In terms of music listening, I have not heard anything that matched the spaciousness in this price range. I listened to a lot of products and the Lifestyle system blew me away. Its music processing changed a regular stereo CD into a surround sound experience which was 20 times better than a traditional dolby processing in a traditional receiver. This also works well with TV and radio.

If you are looking for a great sounding product with an elegant appearance and a simple setup, then go with a Bose Lifestyle system. Just run the setup software. :P

2-0 out of 5 stars Junk System
I bought one from circuit city and hooked up in my home. In Store, it sounded great, but in home it is not really. What I realized is because of the selective clips, it sounded great in stores.

In the Bose Outlet Stores, they will show a demo in a soundproof room with proper speaker adjustment. It requires a kind of closed rectangle shape room. In real life, not all the apartments will be having this kind of living room. That is why you wont find any bose stores in town.

Many of the remote control functions are missing in the system including Closed Caption, Slow, XX Frame forwarding, eject and etc. All these are there in $35 DVD Player.

Overall I dont recommend this system. I had Panasonic scht900, paid about $500. Definately there is diffrence between the panasonic one and bose one, but I dont feel its worth for that money. Dont go for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great System
I heard this system in a store and it sounded great so i brought it home and hooked it up... it still sounded great. U can make a really exaggerated bass or bass that just picks up when it needs to. I went through probably 5 different setups with the speakers and to be honest it totally changed the sound quality. So anyone who gave up on their system and said it sounded bad, should have tried rearranging their speakers a little. all in all, great system

3-0 out of 5 stars Great sound - less features
I always wanted a Bose. I have several friends who had the WAVE radio, and i figured
it would be really cool to have the Big System for everything (DVDc, CDs, MP3s, etc).
No more piles of machines lying around my TV.
BUT... what I found out was shocking.
1) The system sounds Great. It's tough to tell what is real, and what is coming from
the speakers. This is good.
2) It's got more then enough base to get you going. You have a separate Base control
to max. it out, if you want. After that, even Enya sounds like a Club-Mix.
3) My $110, 7 year old DVD player, has more features. The Bose cost $3000!!!!
---- a)Slow motion, play backward, step frames (forward-reverse), one button audio control,
one button subtitles control: are all NOT available on the Bose, but ARE on
my $110 Player.
---- b)The Bose is SO sensitive. My $110 Player can play ANYTHING. Scratched or
whatever. the Bose freezes on several DVDs (Disney's most of all).
4) Music is played funny. It would be nice if the sound came from EVERYWHERE,
But it comes from the focus point you set. ie. the TV. There are 5 speakers (one on
your TV, then one on each side of the TV, then two speakers behind you, are the surround
sound speakers). The 2 behind you get less sound. This makes sense when watching movies,
but listening to music should be different.

Overall it's a great system. I bought it for the sound, and I watch lots of DVDs, but I want
more control in my remote. I hope Bose comes out with a better controller soon.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't get if you need Closed Captioning (CC)
The Bose line of DVD players seems to have some sort of filter that removes the closed caption signal. Even if a DVD is encoded with it, you won't be able to access it on your television. This has turned into a very expensive mistake for me.

The sound is fabulous; deep bass and great spacing. Video is good -> great. But for those of us who need CC, it's a poor choice.

(Note: CC is different from subtitles; if a DVD has subtitles -- such as "English for the Hearing Impaired" as a choice -- you will be able to use that.) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Move over ... the God's here
This is God himself.Make no distinctions about it.I have heard from many so called "Audiophiles"(basically a bunch of losers who think earth shattering bass and big balls is all there is to life) that Bose products are a waste, they are useless, they are over priced, bla, bla bla and the works.that is until i entered the Bose Store in Uptown,Bangalore, with my Pink Floyd DVD.Once it started playing "Shine on you crazy diamond", time stood still.Believe me.No one moved for another 6 mins, and that is the power of Bose,my friends. it is just different.it is just too good.it makes a clear distinction between hard bass, and depth bass. You get clarity and the depth of music is amazing.this is for the true connosiuers of music.audiophiles included.
i suggest life isnt complete without a Bose.when u die, eventually,u will carry the musical tones in ur immortal journey to another world.
ps: listen to Cafe Del Mar Vol.7 and Buddha Bar VOL 4 CD1,when it is raining and is cold outside.u will experience bliss.u will experience a high that will put crack and extacy to shame.this is life.this is why we all live.eventually help ur soul get liberated,by the Bose.Jesus ain't do it man.Bose do.

5-0 out of 5 stars The perfect Home Theater system for Quality sound !
The BOSE LS 12 quality sound and "futuristic look" convinced me so much I had to buy it.This system is kind of expensive but it really worths it. First You dont know were the sound comes from because the speakers are so powerfull & small, not like other BIG speakers that don`t fit well and look messy in the house.
Highly recomended for anybody that like to her good sound in CD`s, CDR`s and movies.

5-0 out of 5 stars It deserves more than five stars!!!
...When I purchased my HDTV, I was offered a "floor model" bose system for $300. I had heard that Bose was a good brand, so I took it...It's amazing...Get this system, you won't regret it. You'll get goosebumps from it.

5-0 out of 5 stars how about shipping internationally
How about shipping internationally? Not much info on the products by bose. on an unrelated matter - are jewel cubes available just by themselves?

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound!
Enjoy your movies and music with this system...

When I was going to buy my home theater system, I listened to at least another 5 systems of other brands and other configurations

When I heard the Bose Lifestyle 12, I was impressed.

You definetely get what you pay for; go for it and don't waste your time looking at other brands. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars There's much better out there, people!
Tried one of these in a Bose store, oh my God it was a joke.Drums sounded muddy and boomy at the same time, highs were shrill and unnatural, and voices sounded completely hollow.

The Sennheiser PXC-300, at 2/3rds of this Bose's price, blows it out of the water in all departments: noise cancellation, physical comfort, and most of all, SOUND QUALITY.

Me, I'm no hoity-toity "audiophile"---but I do have friends who are audiophiles, and they do plenty of headphone listening, contrary to the previous reviewer. In fact, many audiophiles will tell you that a two hundred dollar pair of quality headphones can easily surpass the sound quality of a two thousand dollar pair of speakers!

To be fair these Bose headphones sound slightly better than the under-100 dollar competition by Sony and Phillips. But compared to my Sennheisers at 2/3rds of the price, they're toast.

4-0 out of 5 stars OK,
When I began looking for headphones, I knew that i needed a closed system and a very comfortable pair. I was planning on using them for college which is on the east coast and i'm on the west coast. Noise Cancelling or at least attenuation was important for the plane and doing homework. I would use them on the airplane, dorm, and generally everywhere. I looked at the Sennheiser hd 280's, quiet comfort 2's, triports, and a few random sony models. Ifound these headhphones to meet my needs.

1. These headphones are extremely comfortable. They just are. The pressure on my head is very slight. I can wear them much longer than my sennheiser pcx250's.

2. The sound was good enough for me. People have cited too much bass, but because i am using iTunes and iPod: i have a good equalizer at my desposal. I can change those aspects if they bug me on any specific song.

3. They have a shorter cable (about 5 feet) than most high end headphones. This is good because i can listen to my iPod or computer without getting bogged down by the cable. If i am listening to something farther away, it comes with an extension cable so i can do so.

4. The noise cancelling very good. I have a pair of sennheiser pxc250's and i think that both passively and activly- the Bose has got them beat.

When you are buying headphones remember a few things:

monitor headphones give you a flatter sound. Completely as it was recorded.

you probably aren't an "audiophile".

Open backed headphones are inapproprate in almost every enviroment we use headphones in: the car, train, airplane, library, around other people, computer, and anwhere that has ambient noise or people that will be bothered by the music.

Although it may be hard to believe, you will listen to your headphones for 4 hours plus- ie, an airplane, doing homework, watching a movie.

For these reasons- i suggest a good set of closed headphones. Many people said that the sennheiser 280's were prone to cracking and were somewhat uncomfortable. the cracking would really bug me and i have to be able to wear the headphones for long periods. The triports don't have as full of a sound as the QC2's do. The sony's look dumb and played up to meet a specific audience. I also looked at Ultrasone stuff but nothing there was well recieved.
I found that Bose Quiet Comfort 2's were a good compromise on all the things i was looking for. Great Comfort, decent noise quality, good noise cancelling, but expensive.

1-0 out of 5 stars buyer BEWARE!
This was the worst pair of headphones I've ever bought, and it was not easy to get the local Bose store to give me a full refund on them despite their advertised "no hassle refund" policy.

Terrible sound, poor ergonomics, medicore "noise cancellation"---never again will I buy another Bose product!I should've known better, my husband has a ridiculous Bose Wave radio which he now tells everyone that he "won at a Christmas raffle at the office" because he's too embarassed to confess that he paid half a grand for the thing.

My son pointed me towards a pair of Sennheisers which were better in every respect, and at one third of the price.

1-0 out of 5 stars what an atrocious RIP-OFF!!!
First off, let me say how happy I am that *I* didn't waste three hundred freakin' dollars on this total POS.

No, the hopeless sucker was my EX-GIRLFRIEND, who bought me one of these for my birthday! However since she bundled in a nice long 10 minute wet kiss with the gift, how could a gentleman possibly refuse, LOL?Plus since she is now married to a very wealthy man, I figure it wasn't really *her* money she just wasted...in any case it's the thought that counts, right?

Well I have to say, these headphones at least manage to mostly do ONE thing they claim (unlike most Bose products which are total frauds): cancel out noise by sending out a neutralizing frequency. No, you don't get anything resembling dead silence but you do get about a good 50% reduction, it kind of sounds like when you have a bad cold and your ears are stuck, know what I mean?

Now where these headphones positively stink is if you ever, God help you, attempt to listen to MUSIC through them. Then the infamous Bose Effect ("No highs, no lows, it must be Bose.") takes over: really hollow vocal reproduction, muffled highs, muddy and atrophied bass.I listend to my Norah Jones CD with these things and for a minute there thought it was some totally different female vocalist...one wearing a neck brace and a half dozen clothespins on her nose that is!

I also agree with the other reviewers who claimed that these headphones produce a very unpleasant physical pressure on the ears, and that the construction looks like an accident begging to happen.

Oh well, shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth, right?Even if it's a (cough! gag! hack!) Bose horsey.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Headset
Love the performance. Love the support. The only problem I have is with the durability. I've owned two. Ok only paid for one, and they were good with the exchange. But for some reason the right ear cup keeps going out about every 3 months with extended use.Don't get me wrong, I'm far from abusive to a 300 dollar piece of equipment. All in all, great if you want a name brand. Just don't expect to not have to use their customer service. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I love my Bose Wave....
....radio/CD player with remote. I'm an old school guy who always thought I needed to haul around speakers and a full system anywhere I went to get fantastic music sound. I bought my Bose Wave after hearing one a friend purchased. I was knocked out by the amount of sound and the quality of sound produced by such a compact, mobile unit. I can move this thing from room to room with one hand and when I change homes, I just grab it up and take it with me in the front seat. I have even taken this unit along to friends houses for outdoor parties and you can hear it all over the backyard with no problem. The unit really shines though when you place it properly within a room, put in a CD, and kick back with your remote and adjust the sound to your pleasure. I have been so pleased with this unit that I recommend it to all of my friends and I am saving up my nickels so I can buy another one for the back part of the house. I prefer to keep the volume in the middling range so I can appreciate the subtle tones, but even when it gets jammed up very, very loud I just don't hear much distortion - just more sound. It's a little pricey but Bose lets you pay over a whole year if you'll commit to monthly credit card withdrawals. Kind of hard to beat that! Highly recommended to anyone with a few bucks to invest.

5-0 out of 5 stars best sounding system ive ever heard!
hi all. this is the pinnacle of sound in my humble opinion. for awhile, i was debating wheter or not to buy this system... i mean ive already had the bose wave radio/cd, which sounds pretty good...this couldnt sound that much better... could it? my brother had just bougth a simular priced sony 5 speaker home theater system which sounded very good. me and my brother are very competive so of course he wanted to compare his sony with my original wave radio/cd. my wave/cd sounded a tad bit clearer and cleaner on cd music, but over-all, the sony sounded better: better base, nice surround sound, and movies sound way better(of course)with the sony than they did with the wave/cd when i connected it to a dvd player. he told me that i would be stupid if i was to buy the bose wave music system because it was basicly the same as the wave/cd and that a tabletop system couldnt compare to a full-fledged home theater system anyway...and to tell u the truth, i was starting to agree with him. i was this close to buying a comparable home theater system until i read on bose.com that they were offering a free 30 day trial to compare the new bose wave music system to a larger more expensive sound system. so thats what i did. a week later it arrived ups, got it in my home, opened the package, eyeballed it for awile,(its looked awesome!)then began listening to it... i could not belive what i was hearing! it sounded so wonderfully clear, the base sounded perfect, the music seemed to be coming from everywhere...it was strange. i hooked it up to my dvd player and even though the was bose was right in front of me, i swear i could hear sounds everywhere in my room!it was a unique experience. the best way to describe the sound is beautiful and perfect. i was up til 4 in the mouring playing with this sucker! so the next day i called my brother and told him im coming over so that he could hear it. he liked the way it looked, but thought there's no way it could compare to his (real) hometheater system. so we got a cd that we both like (we love final fantasy music),and started to do our comparisons. my brother isnt the kind of person to admit things, but you should have seen the look on his face... i couldnt help but laugh. he admitted that cd music sounded better on the bose then it did on his sony then wanted to compare how dvds sounded on it. we compared spiderman 2. as we compared systems, he didnt laugh, or say a word. when we were finished comparing, he asked me how much did the bose cost, and all he could say about his sony was that it had a built in dvd player and that it could have sound directly behide you. he also admitted that the bose sounded alot better than he thought it would and that mabye i should keep it. he wont admit it, but i belive he thinks that my bose wave music system sounds better that his sony. this is by far the best system ive heard and it easily out performs the original bose wave radio/cd. i am now covinced that bose is the best music system making company in the world. keep up the good work bose!

1-0 out of 5 stars Much better choices out there!
If you do some research, you will see reviewers that have reviewed radios such as the Bose Wave Radio and Boston Acoustics Recepter and Tivoli Model One, and as soon as they turn on the Bose Wave Radio, they just unplug it and forget about any side by side comparisons, because it is so obviously bad when compared to the other two!

So...why do so many give it such high reviews?Because most people are impressed with big names and have been TOLD that it is the best, so they go on beleiving it.Now to be fair, some people actually do think the Bose Wave Radio sounds great, because all they have ever had before, were cheap $10 clock radios, and next to them, this sounds awesome.

But folks, next to the Boston Acoustics Receptor, this sounds just as bad to those of us that have heard GOOD radios.

Here is the best part... The Boston Acoustics Receptor, and the Tivoli Audio Model One, are only about $100 each, and BLOW the Bose radios away!

How Bose can charge $400 or $500 for a radio that doesn't even come CLOSE to sounding as good as the other two $100 radios just shows you that the cost is just for the name brand of "BOSE".

The two speakers in this unit are not even the SAME!If you take this unit apart, you can see that. No good engineer would ever design something like this where the speakers are not matched.

And when the speakers are so close together like this, it is silly to make it stereo, you will never hear the seperation anyway, especially when lying in the bed with both speakers only on one side of your head at one ear, or if you have one ear in the pillow anyway.

If you are shopping for a radio like this, the hard decision should be between the Tivoli Model One, or the Boston Acoustics Recepter, NOT this one at all.

In fact, you can buy 4 of those radios for the price this one is, and have one for bedroom, office, kitchen, bathroom.

I own just about every great radio there is, including the Ccradio, and have compared them all to each other. I would never buy anything with the BOSE name on it.

If this BOSE radio sounds good to you, it is because you have never heard the other two I just mentioned.

If you own the others, and then have to listen to a BOSE, you will not be able to figure out how they can charge so much money for something that sounds so bad.

But considering how many raving reviews this BOSE seems to be getting, I can see how it would be hard to just take my word on it. PLEASE go to some stores and listen to ALL of them YOURSELF before making the decision to buy one. You will see that I am right.

5-0 out of 5 stars Makes music clearer and better.
I GREATLY recommend this product. When ever I listen to a song, the quality of this music system makes me feel the mood of the song.If you listen to a love song,it makes you realize how loved you are.All because of the quality of this box.It lets me feel and hear things that are impossible to hear on other music systems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Five Stars from a Bose Basher
Yes, you read that right. But before I get to the review, a confession:

As a life-long audiophile, I have long felt that Bose represented the pinnacle of overpriced hype and underwhelming sound quality. The true genius of Amar Bose, in my opinion, is that he has created a distinctive "Bose sound" that appeals greatly to mass market consumers who don't know any better. Spend some time listening to truly good audio systems, and you'll quickly realize that Bose is a high-priced, superbly marketed joke. And unfortunately, I have to live with Bose mediocrity on a daily basis in the form of a Bose audio system "upgrade" in my Acura MDX. (Which I was forced to take as part of the touring package.) It cranks out 'okay' sound at best, and is no where near as good as "stock" audio systems in some of my previously owned vehicles. The most positive thing I can say is that my Acura Bose system sounds better than the Bose system in my friend's Mercedes.

By now you should be getting the idea that I'm the last person in the world inclined to give a Bose product a compliment, no less a five star review. What happened? Well, I was looking for a compact, one piece music system for my home office. And in the world of audio, I realize there is no such thing as a free lunch--designing such a system requires that sound quality be compromised to various degrees along the way. So I certainly wasn't expecting this unit to sound anything like the $10K Sonus Faber speakers in my main rig. What I wanted was good quality sound that, muscially speaking, got the important things right, with no obvious "wrongs."

With these parameters, I quickly realized that there are not many systems out there worth considering. The Cambridge Soundworks 740 soon became my top contender, but I wasn't really happy with it. Yes, it's got bass to spare, but it's bass that I find to be somewhat out of balance with the overall sound, and there's simply no way to tame it. And so, begrudgingly, I decided to give Bose's "New Wave Music System" a listen--after all, I could return it if I didnt like the sound, which I fully expected to be doing. And yet, nearly a month after it arrived in my home, I'm here to sing its praises.

Simply put, the New Wave Music System sounds better than I ever imagined possible with a unit of this size. It's extremely musical and just sounds "right," (whether it be rock, hip-hop, jazz or classical) with many sonic strengths and no obvious flaws. It will easily fill an average-sized room with music, and there's no sense of strain as you push it to higher volumes. For many if not most consumers, the New Wave may be as much "music system" as you'll ever need. One of the downsides to the audiophile pursuit is that you increasing tend to listen analytically, rather than for enjoyment. With the New Wave system, I've rediscovered the pleasure of just popping in a CD and letting it play. I"ve also found both the AM and FM receivers to be quite good, as well.

I really like the sleek, compact design, though I suspect I'll be cursing the "no buttons" approach the first time I (inevitably) lose the remote. And, being always suspicious of Bose's motives, I suspect this design may have been driven by bean counters who saw a way to reduce manufacturing costs by eliminating all on-case controls.

Is it overpriced? Well, if you're the type of person for whom "good enough" is usually good enough, you may want to look elsewhere. But for a product that I truly enjoy using on a daily basis, this was well worth the price. And compared to the insanity of high-end audio, where a 1 meter interconnect can run 3,000 bucks, $500 is downright reasonable.

Overall, I give the New Wave a "Bravo, Bose!" and I'd encourage any audiophiles looking for a small second system to give this a listen. You can always return it within 30 days, but I'd plan on it being a keeper. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb sound from such a small system
I love my Wave System to pieces.

My Wave replaced an aging and broken hi-fi -- An ugly big-ass unit (with twin tape-decks -- so important when I bought it in the mid 90s!) and two hulking speakers.

In comparison, the Wave sits discreetly on the corner of my desk and, when the mood takes me, blasts the music I need to get through the day. It's seriously impressive how loud this puppy can get without distortion.

My one complaint is the lack of any controls on the system itself -- Everything is controlled by the remote control. It can be a pain when you walk across the room to change the CD, then realise you can't eject it without walking back to the remote control.(Although I've recently discovered that if you unplug then reconnect the power, it'll spit the disc out)

I received the system as a gift, so cannot speak to value for money. ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

Bose's most affordable headphones are designed to prove that high-performance sound can come in a lightweight package (just five-ounces, including ear cords). The Bose TriPort glacier-blue headphones deliver the full spectrum of your music, whether you're plugged into a computer or on the go with a portable media player. Their ergonomic design keeps them remarkably comfortable and lightweight, even as proprietary Bose headphone technology conveys the rich acoustical landscape of your music.

Bose's acoustic equalization techniques aim to deliver the rich nuances of your music--details that conventional headphones often lose. The TriPort headphone technology faithfully reproduces deep, full low notes without requiring the artificial bass-boost function found on many portable players.

Based on the results of decades of audio research and headphone acoustical study, Bose identified ways in which normal listener sound perception changes when people wear headphones. That led to the development of Bose's proprietary acoustic equalization techniques, which have fine-tuned the frequency response of the TriPort headphones for exceptional performance.

The headphones' soft ear cushions gently fit around your ear for comfortable listening. A thin, adjustable headband offers several head-size settings, and the earcups swivel for a better fit. The headphones include a generous, five-foot extension cable and a handy carrying pouch.

5-0 out of 5 stars good sound + ambient noise blocked + 13mo warranty
Keep your receipt, Bose makes all repairs at no cost for 13 months. Also, it seems a "no-fault" type warranty, where they didn't enquire what the problem was & whether it was covered. (in my case, lost electrical connection at headphone jack, tho probably my own fault for pulling wires out of backpack by yanking on headphones.) Out of warranty, all repairs (so i was told) are flat fee $39, which seems reasonable.

Was told turn-around within maximum 3 weeks from time Bose receives the unit.

Sound quality is excellent - and I agree with others, headphones are very comfortable & do fit well against skull around ears to block out _much_ ambient noise (e.g. subway noise, obstreperous New Yorkers), such that I wonder whether the Bose noise-cancelling can do very much more. Also against comp priced Sennheisers & Sony in store (not rigorous compare at home), Bose sounded better. Yeah, pricey, but don't whine about it just because you don't want to spend the cash.

Pouch doesn't seem flimsy, although not crush-proof, is adequate for keeping wires in one place & not having them tugged all way & lose electrical connection.

1-0 out of 5 stars They seemed nice...until they broke...twice...
When I first recieved these headphones as a gift, I thought they were wonderful. The sound quality was incredible, and they were very lightweight and comfortable. After five months, the headband above one of the ears snapped. When I still tried to wear it, it would occasionally pop out and hurt my ear. I've read other reviews of others who had the same problem. I sent mine back through customer service, and got a free replacement (it was still under warranty), however I was very disappointed. For $150, most people expect quality headphones that will last longer than five months. Two months after I recieved my replacement, they broke AGAIN! I finally asked for a refund, and I'm awaiting their response. Sure, there are plenty of good reviews here, but why risk having the headphones break, and waste $150? Trust me, these aren't worth $150, or anywhere near that insane value.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great on sound, flimsy on construction
I bought a pair of these for use in Iraq, and I must say the sound quality is excellent. I wouldn't necessarily say they are $100 better than a pair of $40 JVC headphones I own, so in that sense they are a bit overpriced. The Bose name probably accounts for over half the price tag.
On the downside these headphones are constructed of cheap material. The plastic halo piece is fragile, and the metal sliding piece on mine broke through during the first week of limited use. You have to be careful with these at the portion where the plastic ends and the metal headpiece inserts.

Bottomline: Love the sound, drowns out the noise in the gym, including the gym's sound system. Rich, full sound.
Cheap construction. Bose should have used an aluminum alloy or something more durable for headphones costing $149.
Given another choice I'd stick with the $40 headphones and spend the other $110 on some nice CD's to listen to with them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Greatest Headphones Ever
Now when i called this review greatest headphones ever i dont mean the headphones with the most bass. these headphones do offer plenty of bass but they offer so much more as well. the are the most comfy heaphones i have ever tried on. i can wear them anywhere. i use them for two things. my i-pod and my recording studio. they work extremely well for both. the sound quality is what you would expect from bose. it has beefy bass but doesnt over due it like most heaphones but more importantly it has a crisp frequency response across all the entie spectrum. the response these heaphones offer above 5k (higher stuff) is amazing. i love that when i listen to them on my i-pod. i hate headphones with a roll off at 15kHz and really crappy highs and have a bosst at 100Hz that make really good mixes sound like crap. anyway the only headphones on earth better than these are the bose noise canceling but you could get two of these for the price of one of those and to be honest i like the highs on these better.

2-0 out of 5 stars Definitely not worth that much money
I had these for a couple weeks before I sold them on ebay. That pretty much explains how much I disliked them. The only thing really going for them is comfort. The sound is OK, about what I'd expect from maybe a $30 or maybe even $40 pair. But $150?? I think these are supposed to be a status symbol or something, because there's just nothing that great about them. I bought some Sennheiser HD280's instead and like those a lot better, although they're not nearly as comfortable and light. Save your money, do some more reasearch. Buy something else. ... Product Description

The Wave radio II delivers deeper tones and crisper, more accurate audio performance than the original. The key to the improved sound is the new dual tapered waveguide technology, exclusively from Bose. Engineers re-sculpted the interior of the Wave radio II to accommodate not one, but two 26" folded waveguides. These dual waveguides amplify the low-frequency output, reproducing musical notes a full one-half octave lower than the original Wave radio. The result: Instruments like kettle drums and bass guitars have a more natural presence. With such accurate sound reproduction, you can appreciate more of the intricate nuances of many instruments, including the human voice. You may even hear details in music that you've never heard before. There's also a new equalization feature for talk radio. It automatically compensates for the artificially boosted low frequencies found in some talk radio programs so announcers sound more natural. The Wave radio II is simple to use. Instead of buttons on the unit, everything is conveniently controlled with a well-organized credit card-sized remote. And setup is easy too. The digital FM/AM tuner, amplifiers and speakers are all built into the unit. Just unpack it and plug it in to enjoy Bose quality sound. The display panel is large and bright, with big, bold text that's easier to read from across the room. It displays more information now too. Radio station, current time and alarm setting are all shown simultaneously. You can also use your Wave radio II to enjoy lifelike sound with your TV, VCR, DVD player or computer, thanks to the auxiliary input jack. Or plug your headphones into the convenient headphone jack for private listening. You can even place the Wave radio II near your TV or computer monitor because the speakers are magnetically shielded to avoid interference with the picture image. ... Read more
