5-0 out of 5 stars WOW GREAT MACHINE
It took me a couple of weeks to decide if I wanted to buy this. With all of the different reveiws of it. Well let me tell you I am so happy that I did. IT SOUNDS GREAT. It fills the whole apt. The sound is strong and clear. This is the best you can buy for external speakers for you ipos. It sounds just like a stereo. I am so totaly happy with it

1-0 out of 5 stars Overpriced GARBAGE!
My mother gave me one of these for my birthday and as much as I love her, I was really disappointed.See, I am not an audiophile but I have had a fair bit of experience with good audio because I used to work in a small audio store, and in the audio industry is full of little dittys about Bose: "BOSE=Buy Other Sound Equipment" or "Bose blows" or "No highs, no lows, it must be Bose."I am not saying you have to go out and buy a $5,000 system to get good sound, but only that you can get far better sound for half the price that Bose will gouge you for...they are NOTORIOUSLY bad, the only thing they have going for them is massive and relentless advertising campaigns, and cute compact little designs.

So I plug in this Sound-Crock thing, and jump out of my skin...never in my life have I heard MP3 sound so bad!!!This is exactly what a lot of doomsayers were warning about when MP3 first came out, that its musical quality would be horrible. It was simply unlistenable!

Well, I plan on eBaying this thing as soon as a few months pass and my Mom forgets that she gave it to me.Maybe I'll just tell her that my dog ate it or something...but then I'd have to kill my dog, and I don't want to do that.So maybe an irate girlfriend smashed it to pieces, yeah Mom will like to hear about that drama, she loves soap operas as I suspect that most Bose-buyers probably do which explains their buying disasters.

Anyway right now I have my iPod plugged into my Aiwa AWP-ZX7 boombox and for just two hundred dollars it blows this THREE hundred dollar Bose hunka-junk clear out of the water!I highly recommend you do the same, a boombox is also far more versatile, can play normal CDs, radio and cassette, plus way better sound quality.

Oh, I forgot...it's not as cutesy as this little Bose.GAG!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible sound!
I ordered the Soundock online and received it within 5 days.It is unbelievably easy to set-up - just plug in the adapter for your size iPod, plug in and enjoy! The sound from the notebook sized speaker is amazing! The remote doesn't have a ton of functions available, but I find it's not really needed.Overall, I would definitely purchase again and am considering a second unit to keep at the office.Excellent sound quality!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sound Loud or Sound Low, Bose does it Best
My gal Sara and I are music people. We're writers and photographers and we have music all around the house. However the darkroom and the kitchen have no speakers, are not wired for sound. Enter the Bose SoundDock. Yes, it's expensive, but we listened to all of the others out there before we plunked our credit cards down and bought two of these. The sound is absolutely incredible, just what you'd expect from Bose. Drop your Pod in the Dock and you're good to go. Nothing made by the competition comes close. Sound loud or sound low, Bose does it best. The tiny remote works like a champ and the dock keeps your Pod charged. Sara's lives in the darkroom, unless she's out and about with it and mine lives in the kitchen, it seems it's found a permanent home there as I got an iPod Shuffle for our anniversery (she got flowers and won't forgive me), but that's another story.

Jack Priest, Writer from the Darkside

1-0 out of 5 stars yet another pretty joke from Bose!
This SoundDock system is the worse Apple iPod speaker accessory I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a few of them.Even the lady at the Bose store was wincing when I turned the volume just over the halfway mark, that's how bad they sounded.

HOWEVER like all Bose products, these are very pretty. They look good.Nice compact and clean design.Yes.Very pretty.

BUT like all Bose products, sound quality is mediocre at best, and absolutely ATROCIOUS when compared to competitors' products in the same price range---difficult to do because very few competitors use the outrageous 800% markup Bose does.

To the uneducated listener, they SEEM to have less distortion than other speakers only because Bose speakers are designed to reproduce only 60% of the sound spectrum (up to around 13KHz, whereas the spectrum of human hearing maxes out at 20KHz), and also they simply don't go very loud, so voila, you THINK these are "clear" when in reality they are simply LIMITED.But when compared to some truly decent quality speakers (which often cost less, much less) you'll immediately see that Bose speakers have a tinny, castrated and closed-off sound.

Highly respected names in audio like JBL and Harman Kardon also make similiarly small-and-pretty iPod speakers that cost 1/2 to 1/3 of these which sound much better.Still, keep your expectations low---you can only get so much sound out of lousy 2-3" drivers. The ONLY justification for buying ANY of these tiny "iPod speakers" is if you ABSOLUTELY want to have speaker sound while on the road for some reason.

Otherwise if you are looking for something to play your iPod out of at home, you are much better just buying a simple $3 Y-adapter cable and connecting your iPod to your home stereo or mini-system, or even a cheap boombox that has auxilary-input connections.

The cheapest and far better sounding solution is just to use a 2.1 computer speaker system (self-powered computer speakers with subwoofer) like the Logitech Z2300 or Altec Lansing MX5021 or Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, all of which are LIGHT YEARS better for ***HALF*** the price! ... Read more

Amazon.com Product Description

The Bose Lifestyle 28 DVD home-entertainment system delivers home theater simplicity with superb sound, elegance, and simple setup and configuration. The system comes with a central DVD/CD media center, a quintet of Direct/Reflecting cube speakers, a powered Acoustimass module (subwoofer), and everything you need to hook it all up.

The brushed-silver media center features an integrated DVD/CD player and AM/FM tuner. Its Zone 1/Zone 2 configuration gives you independent volume controls in each of 2 different rooms. You get Dolby Digital 5.1 surround processing for dynamic, lifelike surround effects from your favorite movies, as well as Bose Videostage 5 processing for mono and stereo sources. This processing generates 5.1 audio from any 1- or 2-channel source, from old movies and TV shows to today's commercial CDs.

The DVD/CD player plays your DVD-Video movies and CD-based music, including MP3 files written to recordable CD-R or CD-RW. Disc features include repeat and random play, DVD parental controls, forward and reverse chapter/track skip, and scanning within tracks.

The compact Direct/Reflecting cube speaker arrays--each standing roughly 6 inches high--blend with your décor to deliver the kind of sound you'd expect from much larger speakers. And the Acoustimass module reproduces deep, resonant low notes while stationed inconspicuously almost anywhere in your room. The result? Riveting surround sound that seems to come from the cube speaker arrays, whether it’s the hypnotic whisper of rustling leaves or the pure power of a ferocious storm.

In the Bose Acoustimass module, 2 down-firing drivers give you powerful performance for the lowest audible notes and effects. And proprietary Bose technology ensures that you hear with clarity the proper balance of deep lows from all channels for music and movies. Hide the module almost anywhere, even behind furniture, and all the sound seems to come from the small cube speaker arrays.

Other features include AM/FM tuning with 50 preset stations (25 FM, 25 AM), a sleep timer (1 to 90 minutes), and console input jacks for connecting other source components (such as a VCR, DSS, CD changer, or tape deck).

Connections include digital and analog audio inputs and outputs for a range of ancillary components, with a choice of composite-video, S-video, or--with an optional accessory cable that connects to both the composite- and S-video outputs--480i component-video outputs, depending on your television.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is simply amazing.
I'm really not sure what to say about the bad reviews of this product. I can't imagine why anyone would not be impressed by the sound coming from these tiny cube speakers. As they did not mention it in their reviews, I can only assume that the people who were unhappy with their products did not read the instructions (it is fairly simple to figure out) and play the setup DVD that came with it. Before running the AdaptIQ program, the system sounds decent. Then I ran the software and the system literally came alive and adjusted itself perfectly to my room (it's an odd "L" shape and I was getting an unbalanced sound at first).

In terms of music listening, I have not heard anything that matched the spaciousness in this price range. I listened to a lot of products and the Lifestyle system blew me away. Its music processing changed a regular stereo CD into a surround sound experience which was 20 times better than a traditional dolby processing in a traditional receiver. This also works well with TV and radio.

If you are looking for a great sounding product with an elegant appearance and a simple setup, then go with a Bose Lifestyle system. Just run the setup software. :P

2-0 out of 5 stars Junk System
I bought one from circuit city and hooked up in my home. In Store, it sounded great, but in home it is not really. What I realized is because of the selective clips, it sounded great in stores.

In the Bose Outlet Stores, they will show a demo in a soundproof room with proper speaker adjustment. It requires a kind of closed rectangle shape room. In real life, not all the apartments will be having this kind of living room. That is why you wont find any bose stores in town.

Many of the remote control functions are missing in the system including Closed Caption, Slow, XX Frame forwarding, eject and etc. All these are there in $35 DVD Player.

Overall I dont recommend this system. I had Panasonic scht900, paid about $500. Definately there is diffrence between the panasonic one and bose one, but I dont feel its worth for that money. Dont go for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great System
I heard this system in a store and it sounded great so i brought it home and hooked it up... it still sounded great. U can make a really exaggerated bass or bass that just picks up when it needs to. I went through probably 5 different setups with the speakers and to be honest it totally changed the sound quality. So anyone who gave up on their system and said it sounded bad, should have tried rearranging their speakers a little. all in all, great system

3-0 out of 5 stars Great sound - less features
I always wanted a Bose. I have several friends who had the WAVE radio, and i figured
it would be really cool to have the Big System for everything (DVDc, CDs, MP3s, etc).
No more piles of machines lying around my TV.
BUT... what I found out was shocking.
1) The system sounds Great. It's tough to tell what is real, and what is coming from
the speakers. This is good.
2) It's got more then enough base to get you going. You have a separate Base control
to max. it out, if you want. After that, even Enya sounds like a Club-Mix.
3) My $110, 7 year old DVD player, has more features. The Bose cost $3000!!!!
---- a)Slow motion, play backward, step frames (forward-reverse), one button audio control,
one button subtitles control: are all NOT available on the Bose, but ARE on
my $110 Player.
---- b)The Bose is SO sensitive. My $110 Player can play ANYTHING. Scratched or
whatever. the Bose freezes on several DVDs (Disney's most of all).
4) Music is played funny. It would be nice if the sound came from EVERYWHERE,
But it comes from the focus point you set. ie. the TV. There are 5 speakers (one on
your TV, then one on each side of the TV, then two speakers behind you, are the surround
sound speakers). The 2 behind you get less sound. This makes sense when watching movies,
but listening to music should be different.

Overall it's a great system. I bought it for the sound, and I watch lots of DVDs, but I want
more control in my remote. I hope Bose comes out with a better controller soon.

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't get if you need Closed Captioning (CC)
The Bose line of DVD players seems to have some sort of filter that removes the closed caption signal. Even if a DVD is encoded with it, you won't be able to access it on your television. This has turned into a very expensive mistake for me.

The sound is fabulous; deep bass and great spacing. Video is good -> great. But for those of us who need CC, it's a poor choice.

(Note: CC is different from subtitles; if a DVD has subtitles -- such as "English for the Hearing Impaired" as a choice -- you will be able to use that.) ... Read more

6. Bose Acoustimass 15 Series II Home-Entertainment Speaker System

(price subject to change: see help)
Asin: B00007DN0Z
Catlog: CE
Manufacturer: Bose
Sales Rank: 23641
Average Customer Review: 2.33 out of 5 stars
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan

Amazon.com Product Description

From a rumbling tidal wave to a shimmering violin, the Acoustimass 15 Series II speaker system was designed to bring the full emotional import of music and film to your living room with depth and clarity. Innovative Bose technology and design let you enjoy Bose's best-performing 5.1-channel speaker system with your other surround-sound components--without the bulk of traditional speakers. The Acoustimass 15 speaker system is also upgradeable for 6.1-channel receivers.

The foundation of this system is Bose's powered Acoustimass module, which features three down-firing drivers and proprietary technology to deliver the highest-impact performance of any Bose home-entertainment speakers. Hear the clarity and proper balance of the lowest audible notes and effects from all channels for both music and movies. You can place the hideaway bass module, or subwoofer, just about anywhere--even behind furniture--and all the sound appears to come from the tiny cube speakers.

As films unfold on your screen, you'll hear the swell of an orchestra and the energy of a busy city street. Five Direct/Reflecting cube speaker arrays--each only 6 inches tall--produce these 5.1-channel surround sound effects with vivid character that belies their small size. The speaker arrays are optimized to render high and midrange frequencies for natural music presentations and clear dialogue.

The Direct/Reflecting cube speaker arrays blend direct with reflected sound to re-create a natural spaciousness--much like the sense of "air" and "room" you'd hear at a live concert. The arrays are engineered to let you experience rich sound almost anywhere in the room, not just in a single small "sweet spot."

The elements of this speaker system are engineered for space efficiency, so they don't intrude on your decor. The largest part of the system--the Acoustimass bass module--tucks neatly behind a couch or a curtain. You can mount the small cube speaker arrays tastefully on your walls or display them attractively on optional speaker stands (the UFS-20 universal floor stands).

The Acoustimass 15 speaker system is also designed to increase its capabilities as you upgrade your equipment. The Acoustimass 15 Series II 6.1 upgrade speaker kit lets you enjoy 6.1-channel surround sound (front left/center/right, rear left/center/right, and a .1 subwoofer channel) with a compatible audio/video receiver. Automatic protection circuitry prevents the system's drivers from being overdriven and provides increased reliability without interfering with your listening.

What's in the Box
Five cube speakers, one Acoustimass module, two 50-foot (15.2 m) rear speaker cables, a 20-foot (6.1 m) system input cable, three 20-foot (6.1 m) front speaker cables, rubber feet for the front center cube speaker array, a power cord, and a user's manual. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars not up to par
After purchasing a HDTV and a DVD player the next step was to get a speaker system and receiver. I had some limitations on the size of the speakers I could use, so naturally I thought of Bose. After using these speakers for about 20 days I had returned these speakers because of the lack of sound, what I mean by lack of sound is that I could hear humps from the speakers to the base module and distortion it got very annoying. One thing a person will notice very quickly about Bose is that there speakers don't need a lot of watts to get loud, (loud does not mean they are good speakers). I end up going with Round Sound (aka. Anthony Gallo Acoustics) A' Diva speakers much cleaner sound. If you are in the market for small speakers I would highly recommend giving Round Sound a look.

1-0 out of 5 stars Buy anything but Bose
Bose is a testament to the power of advertising over product. In many ways it is a fascinating company whose products are based on late 1960's theories of audio using tweeters and woofers that Radio Shack parts outperform. This has been known for years in audio circles where Bose products are held in very low esteem. Check any issue of Stereophile, Absolute Sound, What HIFI or do a google search for Audioreview and epinions- you won't find Bose products held in any high regard. Yet uninformed consumers buy into it.

Bose has designed a system which probably costs them less than $400 in parts to build and retails them for several times that amount. Yet consumers still buy into this. Incredible.

Bose has made a name for itself by aiming its advertising towards consumers with little or no knowledge of audio equipment. It sells speakers and systems like this that are of poorer quality and absolutely worse performance than its competitors. I know, I owned several Bose products for years (901s, 301s and 201s) until I began to learn more about audio technology and quality. I was literally blown away by the quality of mid-fi Polk speakers when placed next to Bose products. Polk isn't "cutting edge" but builds a decently designed product for its price point.

Amazon carries Polk, JBL and Wharfedale ANY of whom offer decent mid-fi loudspeakers with substantially better engineered electronics and drivers. Most important of all these speakers sound much better than Bose for around $250 to $1000.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great speaker system
This system is an unbeliveable upgrade to your crappy home theatre system. Each of those little speakers can go up to 100 watts of power handling. Although small, they are probably louder than your bookshelf speaker, although these would not be nearly anything without the sub. The sub can handle very very high amounts of bass, this is the best sub you will see. This is the best speaker system of all time, this is half off right now, the price is normally double, don't miss your chance, I know I didn't. ... Read more
