Great Photo Printer
I did some research and thought that for me the Canon i9100 was the best option of excellent printing quality, flexibility, and had pricing that was not out of this world. I have just printed my first few photos and I am amazed. Oh, that bit where they say it prints really fast...True. Setup was straight forward except for a paper feed problem, see below. Pictures are so clear I cannot believe that these photos came from an ink jet. Boy have things changed since my HP 500 B&W.

I have an older 2 mega-pixel Nikon Digital camera and the 4x6 images are sharp on this printer. I needed to decrease the resolution to around 250 pixels/inch to fill a 4x6 photo properly. This did not seem to impact the perceived quality much if at all. Time to get the Nikon D100!!! I know...I know, I got a Canon printer but I have a big investment in Nikon lenses already.

Drawbacks:

I have not played with the included Canon Photo Software too much. The first picture or two that I printed with it had banding in the colors (like JPG artifacts). The canon software has photo batch options that are already set for 4x6 and other common paper sizes. This is a plus. The option to instantly print a borderless picture was neat but I will pass on this software until I can get the quality where I want it. Fiddling with the software or checking for updates may fix this problem.

Oh, one of the paper guides got misaligned. I think this might of happened when I was taking off the miles of shipping tape. I had quite of few sore words toward the printer until I finally saw the misalignment way down in the area where the paper is fed. I knew that the paper should not jam every other page.

Well back to printing. I need to work a little bit on color correction but that is all part of the fun.

Better than expected
I had an Epson 890 Photo Printer and the print head clogged up, and it would have been more expensive to replace the head than to buy a new printer.
I had some doubts about this Canon i9100, but once I ordered and received it , this printer proved to be better than expected.
No problem set up, got it running right away, beautiful print out.
I have a test page, made of the basic window colors in different shapes. With my old Epson 890 I spent several nights, tried all the settings, calibrated the screen matching, etc, etc, and I could never ever get the right colors across the whole spectrum. The colors were always skewed at one end or another.
Guess what, the Canon printed from the very beginning, with standard settings, all the colors in the right COLOR. Tried different papers and settings, always came out perfect.
The best:
really nice color reproduction, large size prints, about 5 to 10 times faster than my Epson, individual color cartridges, replaceable print head, very quiet operation.
The questionable:
Will have to see how long the prints last, since definitely the Epson has an advantage with long lasting inks. I will get some Canon paper and experiment with it.
The bad:
I wish it came with at least a couple of papers in all different sizes (not only 4x6), and an USB cable. C'mon Canon, couldn't you throw in a $5.00 USB cable on your best printer?

Almost Great
This is a great printer, but no one, including Canon carries 13"x19" card-stock paper. I bought this printer with idea that I'ld be able to print my own 13x19 colored signs (100 at a time) but alas, no paper is available.

Epson user switches to Canon
+: Wide format, fairly affordable (especially since the recent price drop), Print heads are less troublesome than on Epson models, ink tanks seem to last longer than with Epson printers (maybe because I am not cleaning them constantly), it's quiet, makes nice photos, and my favorite - print head assembly is replaceable!

-: Annoying to customize settings in OS X.. actually, I haven't been able to choose a custom paper size yet, sometimes output is enlarged (I know - weird, right?), had problems with saving color settings, prints like crap on plain or non-inkjet art paper (Epson is better here).

New Canon printers will be shipped...
i9100 prices dropped because the new i9900 will come out between May 10 - 21 (2004). i9100 are great but if you can wait, it looks like the new i9900s will be better with 2-picoliter droplets, 4800x2400 dpi printing, 8 ink system (CMYK, PC,PM, Red,Blue) almost doubling the print nozzles, and USB & Firewire connection. Sorry this is not a review but just a head up for those who like to get latest so they don'g get stuck with buying an older model. ... Read more

Not for Mac OS 9
The manufacturer claims on the box that this card is compatible with Mac OS 8.6 and up, but the instructions inside specify OS X, and no driver is provided for earlier systems. Also, with OS 9 on a Power Mac G4 MDD, it prevented my computer from going to sleep completely and prevented it entirely from waking up. ... Read more

great CD player - for the price
I got this portable CD player for Christmas last year and have been quite pleased with the features. It has excellent sound, anti-shock protection, and plays CD-Rs and CD-RWs effortlessly. The only problem that I had was that it eats up power too quickly - I played about two hours worth of music and it required me to replace the batteries after that. Still, it's a good deal. Just get rechargeable batteries for this one.

Better Than Apple's Internal Modem, But...
This has to be one of the worst external modems ever made for the Mac. It is, however, still an improvement over Apple's own internal modem, in that, once the Best modem manages to negotiate a connection, it stays connected. But getting that initial connection with the Best modem is often difficult, and dealing with the necessary workarounds can quickly tire one's patience. After having consistent difficulties with this modem when I first bought it, I tried to contact Best Support, but I never received a reply. So, I returned it to Amazon.com for an exchange. After receiving the second Best modem, I had exactly the same problems, so I concluded that the defects I was experiencing were probably generic to the model. The basic issue seems to be that the modem often fails to initialize properly. To reset it requires that you unplug the USB cable and re-plug it, sometimes over and over, until the device finally responds. The modem has the same difficulty in both OS 9 and OS X; the only difference I've noted is that, in OS X, it can take up to 15 seconds after issuing the Connect command for the modem to actually start dialing. I've had to unplug and re-plug the USB cable as many as a half dozen times sometimes to get the device to work. So why do I put up with it? Because, as I mentioned at the beginning, once this modem makes a connection, it stays connected, which Apple's own internal modem typically failed to do. In that sense, the Best modem is just marginally more tolerable. It's just a shame that this Best modem appears to be the only external modem that's now made for the Mac. Caveat emptor! ...
