Canon's i950 is a high-quality photo printer that boasts speed, accurate color, and affordability. Canon's MicroFine Droplet Technology, a 4,800 x 1,200 dpi maximum resolution, and up to 49 gradation levels combine to create bright, crisp images. Over 3,000 print nozzles deliver precise 2-picoliter droplets, resulting in surprisingly accurate, uniform prints.

With borderless printing, you can create edge-to-edge photos in a number of popular sizes, with 4-by-6-inch prints taking as little as 37 seconds. Canon's Think Tank System lets you replace only those inks that run out, as opposed to the entire cartridge. A wide variety of paper types are supported, including envelopes, glossy photo cards, glossy photo paper, transparencies, T-shirt transfers, and more.

The i950 also supports the Exif 2.2 standard, which along with the included Easy-PhotoPrint software (Windows Only) results in high-quality images that rival those of professional prints. The i950 is both Mac and PC compatible and comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality Output
Years ago, I worked as a custom color printer, so I feel I have somewhat of a background in judging photo print quality. Hopefully the stability of the Canon photo paper pro media truly approaches 25 yrs, as Canon claims. This is good enough for me at this time. My prints are made for myself, and as gifts for my family and friends.....

The output from this printer, with the 8.5"x11" photo paper pro, really impressed me right out of the box. I figured I would give it the acid test right away and try printing portraits. I don't have any professional color management, but the color was bang on, did a +13 intensity change in the print driver and I felt I had honest WYSIWYG work-flow!!

Accurate flesh tones are critical in portrait printing and the printer nailed them. I didn't need the Canon supplied imaging software as I am a PSP 7 user, so I can't comment on Canon's efforts here. I printed 6x8" prints with 1" borders that are easily frameable, wall-hangable prints. I would have no hesitation in giving these prints as gifts to family and friends....

5-0 out of 5 stars easy to use. amazing results.
I received a digital camera (Nikon 4300 which I like) for x-mas, but didn't buy a printer right away. My friends' photo printers were okay, but I really wanted to be able to get prints that looked as good as from a lab.

The i950 is impressive. Setup was very easy on my XP machine. In less than half an hour, I took the printer from the box, set it up, did some tests, then printed some photos that blew me away. 8 1/2 x 11 and 4 x 6 prints were very impressive. No graininess, beautiful colors, all this with no editing at all. The printer driver is incredibly easy to use. Simply select the photos you want to print, choose the type and size of paper, select a layout, and that's it. No complicated settings.

The Canon paper is key. Photo Paper Plus is good. Photo Paper Pro is slightly better, but so far I have not seen good results with any non-Canon paper.

Anyway, if you want a great photo printer, this is the one. 2 picoliter droplets and 6 color tanks are an awesome combination.

5-0 out of 5 stars This may be the perfect photo printer!
I recently purchased a new digital camera (Canon PowerShot G2), and wanted a better photo printer than my current Epson 785EXP, which I never really cared for. I am absolutely blown away by this printer! Set up under XP is completely painless. I had my first print in under 5 minutes. The image quality is amazing. It exceeds those from my Sony Dye Sublimation printer (DPP-SV55), which I could never get to print a true borderless 4 x 6 photo.

I have finally found a printer that truly justifies having a digital camera, and may very well never take another roll of film. (Well, never say never!) With the bundled software you can easily adjust and crop your images, but I did also purchase Roxio's Photosuite Platinum Edition, because truthfully I found the included software to be a little light. Don't get me wrong - the image quality was excellent with no adjustment needed at all, but I know that once I have installed Photosuite I will be able to adjust and further perfect my output.

So far I have only printed 4 x 6 photos on the Canon Photo Paper Plus. True borderless 4 x 6 output. I defy you to tell them apart from a photolab's! The detail and skintones are incredible. I bought 8 x 10 glossy and matte and look forward to giving those a try as well.

At this price and with the quality of the photos you can print I can't imagine that there is a better printer on the market. Can't comment on text, as I have an HP LaserJet 2200D, so this printer will be strictly for photos. But if you a looking for a great photo printer at a great price please give this one a try. You will not be disappointed!

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific printer!
This is my first photo printer and I couldn't be happier with it. I purchased it in September 2003 and it has worked perfectly since then. Set-up was easy, the photos come out great, and it is fast. I use the Canon software to download photos but that's it. For everything else -- image correction, printing, etc. -- I use Photoshop Elements 2.0. For what it's worth, I use a Canon G3 and a Mac running OS X 10.2.8.

2-0 out of 5 stars Must use Canon products
Good printer if you are prepared to spend $11-$12 per Canon cartridge and use Canon paper. If you plan to use compatible cartridges, anticipate lots of color and clogging problems. If you expect to print lots of photos, as I do (new baby), expect to spend $50-$80 per month on cartridges alone. The ink runs out very quickly! Paper by other manufacturers tends to misfeed.

As a graphic designer, I was hoping to use this as a back-up printer for work. I've had to stop, as I find it too expensive to run.

Otherwise, good print quality, good skin tones. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent, but you can do better
The Flipster looks cool, pretty much like a clamshell cell phone. It works well, too, playing specially encoded video files (a conversion tool for Windows is included) as well MP3, WMA and AAC music files. You can also load various picture formats on the 2.5" screen, which is smallist. But seriously, this is really a half-cripped WinCE device, so for this money you might as well get a Pocket PC that has a built-in SD slot. For example, the Toshiba e755 has both SD and CF slots and can thus support up to 2GB of storage (or more in the future), and comes with wi-fi, AND is cheaper than the Flipster... and, of course, the e755 is a Pocket PC so it can do much more. If the Flipster were hard drive-based, it could be cool for my money. As it is, it arrives too late with too few functions. ... Read more

47. Canon i470D Photo Printer

Manufacturer: Canon Office Products

Average Customer Review: 4.78 out of 5 stars
US | Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan Product Description

The Canon i470D Photo Printer delivers high-quality photos from your computer or directly from removable memory, as well as detailed printing from the Web and crisp text. It achieves print speeds of up to 18 pages per minute in black and up to 12 ppm in color, along with resolution of up to 4,800 x 1,200 color dpi.

The i470D comes with a built-in print-operation panel, Canon Photo Viewer software, and slots for CompactFlash card, Memory Stick, Microdrive, SmartMedia, SD Card, and MultimediaCard. You can print with or without your computer--just connect a compatible Canon digital camera or camcorder to your i470D printer and print (see specifications for a list of compatible cameras).

The unit's LCD simplifies printing without your computer, offering access to features like image selection, size, paper selection, date stamp, and number of prints. Canon Photo Viewer software is automatically installed with the printer driver and lets you view images on your monitor while you print using the printer's operation panel.

The i470D produces edge-to-edge borderless printing (4 x 6-inch, 5 x 7-inch, or 8.5 x 11-inch prints) with the look and feel of a traditional photograph. The printer generates 4 x 6-inch prints in approximately 93 seconds. Canon advanced MicroFine Droplet Technology uses a nozzle system that ejects consistent, prescribed-volume droplets in microscopic sizes for fine detail.

The i470D supports the worldwide standard Exif 2.2 (Exchangeable Image Format File), so when an Exif-compliant camera captures a photo, important camera settings and shooting conditions are saved in the JPEG image file. Easy-PhotoPrint software analyzes the recorded data and automatically adjusts printer driver settings for optimum image processing. To simplify Web-page printing, Canon also includes Easy-WebPrint software (Windows only), so pages print just as they're seen onscreen. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! Incredible results at an incredible price
I continue to be amazed at the quality of this printer. I've owned Epson 6 color printers (785. 900) and the results from this four color printer are superior. Blazing fast with excellent skintone and resolution on a variety of papers. Don't get me wrong, the Epsons will give great results of you use the proper paper and print settings, but I found that if I used the highest quality settings the Epson's seemed to dump and waste ink. With the Canon I print at highest quality and get photos that look like photos, not like inkjet printouts that can't be touched lest you mar the surface. The fact that this printer can support direct printing from digicams and memory cards is an added bonus. Lastly, its very economical in the use of ink. And one more time, this printer is FAST!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Value
This printer does a very good job for the price. The color pictures are pretty crisp and clear and sometimes better than Lab quality. You can use this camera as a regular printer too. Set up is real fast. The ink cartridges are cheap and last long. Do not buy the perforated Canon Glossy paper, the regular Canon Glossy paper should be fine. I did not notice any difference in print quality between the Canon Glossy Paper print and the Canon Pro paper print. Overall I recommend this printer if you are willing to spend less that 75$ (I bought mine for 39$ look out for deals), dont go by the low price of this printer you will be amazed at the quality of the print outs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very pleased after six months...
This printer has been great. Bought it for $50, after a $50 instant/in-store rebate. The black ink cartridges are inexpensive and longer lasting than my previous, and costly, BJ-100 cartridges. The printer is fairly quiet and prints at an acceptable speed. So far the print quality (black & color) has been excellent. I have yet to use it for any photo pics though - so can't comment there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer/Great Price
Excellent quality of printed items - documents and photos. What's better is the long-lasting cartridges and their low price.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best purchase I've ever made
In fact, I've got the printer (...) when it was in promotion. Cheap, but never seen any inkjet printer good as this one. I'm 100% satisfied with the picture quality. Simply the best value for the money. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars "Blotting paper" would be a better label
I inherited a stack of this before leaving for grad school (my mother was cleaning the closets.) I have to say that most cheaper store-brand filler papers are far better.

95% of readers are probably thinking right now that all filler paper is essentially the same, with slight variations in color and printing. Perhaps this is even true for 95% of you.

However, for reasons of legibility and comfort, I use a technical pen with black india to write equations, and a fountain pen (usually a Parker 45) with Platinum brand carbon black ink for general writing. Both of these inks are more or less water-based but rather thick; both are wicked (despite their thickness) by Mead filler paper to the point of near illegibility. Lines begin to blur together and letters become fuzzy and uncomfortable to read.

This paper is fine for scratchwork, but for homework to be submitted or figures to photocopy, it's terrible. On the upside, I don't have to worry about smudges--the mead paper even doubles rather well as blotting paper. Most store-brand filler papers I've used seem to have a higher oil content and don't wick ink nearly this well.

If you only use pencil or gel/ballpoint pens Mead paper will suffice, but if you use rollerball, fountain, or other ink pens, pass this one over and get the generic stuff instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars COMPARED CANON I850 and S900 PHOTO PRINTERS
I couldn't decide which printer to get. I am using a Sony DCS P9 (4MegaPixel) camera. I bought both the Canon I850 and the Canon S900. I decided to use both and whichever one I liked better, I would return the other one.
I was only using Canon Photo Paper Pro papers. I used both 4x6 and 8 1/2"x11" full size papers. The price I paid after rebate and tax on the I850 was $140 (yes, afer rebate and including all taxes) and the Canon S900 set me back about $250 dollars + tax. Both were equally easy to set up out of the box. I was comparing 3,072 nozzles on S900 to 1,600 nozzles on I850. But, the I850 also offers:

5 and 2 pico-liter droplet size for ink...S900 is 4 pico-liter
248 RAM buffer for quicker printing compare with 80 for S900
4 colors of ink cartridges including a double size black (because it does text well, too)which is cheaper to replace than 6 cartridges on S900
Very, very quiet operation BOth were quiet but I850 was quieter
Liked the fact the I850 has a door that closes on front AND BACK...the S900 doesn't close on back to keep dust out
Smaller in size than S900...and sleeker looking in aluminum look

Bottom line...I could see a difference in certain kinds of pictures...I saw a little more purple in a flower picture printed on the S900 and more of a deep blue color on same picture printed on I850...the picture looked more blue than purple on my computer though so I don't know how good a test this was. This color shade difference may be due to the 49 graduations of color available on S900 and only 27 on the I850. But, on most printing, the sharpness seemed to be slightly better on the I850..only slightly better...details were darker on the I850, like outlines of green leaves on trees.
Would I justify the difference in price for the difference in print...ABSOLUTELY NOT. It just seems that the I850 is the newest printer technology and the S900, although only out since March 2002, will probably be replaced in the next 6 months or so with newer technology similar to the I850. Some colors on S900 came out with a different shade like bails of hay in a Halloween shot; on S900 it had a little more yellow tones than the I850 but the I850 had more detail on lines in hay and on my kids hair. Both were excellent and I took both 8 1/2x11 sheets (1 from each printer) to my local Best Buy store on a Saturday and the Canon rep working there couldn't tell the difference between the two printer's results. Bottom line is; If you need a magnafying glass to see the difference, then the I850 should be the choice. These pictures on both printers rival those that you get from local photo developing store...and you can adjust the contrast, brightness and color to your liking.
The speed when printing pictures on the I850 is fast. Again, I must stress how quiet this machine is while printing. You will almost forget it's on even when printing. The software that came with the I850 is Canon's Zoombrowser 3.5 version...the S900 came with older version. I took the pictures to show some friends and they couldn't believe I printed them at home. If you get this printer, you will not regret your purchase. Just remember, from what I've heard, that it does make a difference which photo paper you use...Canon's Photo Paper Pro is the BEST (and Canon claims pix will last 25 years on this paper). The text is quoted in Black/White as 22 ppm (WOW). Also, haven't done it yet but I've heard from other's that the I850 does awesome Black and White pictures...better than the S900. I hope this helps in your the way, it does only take about 30 seconds to do a high quality 4x6 print on this printer. An Epson of equal comparison would easily take at least 4 to 5 minutes to do the same print!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Printer, and even Greater Customer Service!
I bought this printer just over a month ago. In that time, I've printed out a test photo and several regular prints. As noted by so many others, the photo print was on par with what you'd get from your local 1-hour photo store or other bargain place (Costco, BJ's, CVS, etc.). My wife noticed that the flesh tones were slightly grey, but the photo was taken on an overcast day with a 1.5 megapixel digital camera and no color correction was performed before the print was made.

The quality of the printouts for text is what I'd expect from a good inkjet printer. It's definitely on par with what I get from the HP 5000DN at work. Text is sharp and crisp, no visible blurring around the edges. Do note, though, that I use heavy-weight (24lb) inkjet paper for my printouts, and from other reviews I think that plays a key role in the quality of the text printout.

The durability of the ink was proven really well by accident. I had printed out some directions, and after the event put the printout in a paper bag for recycling. When I went outside the day it was due to be picked up, the bag had tipped over in the night due to heavy wind during a rain storm. The printout had fallen onto the street and was soaked through. When I picked it up, I found that none of the ink -- black or color -- had smudged at all and the entire printout was still 100% readable.

Now the most important part of this review is how I was treated by Amazon after the purchase. Four days after I bought the printer, the price went down. I sent an e-mail to customer service and they credited me the difference the next day. Even better, I checked the price again 30 days after the purchase date, and found it had dropped significantly further. I e-mailed them again, and they once again gave me a credit the next day! No hassle, no arguments, nada! This is outstanding customer service and I think it's great that Amazon offers price protection like this! Kudos to you all, customer service reps!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Photo/General Purpose Inkjet Printer You Can Buy!
I purchased this printer 2 months ago and have found the perfect home printer. The main reason I was in the market was the high cost of "color" inkjet cartridges that I went through like candy in my old Canon and HP printers. I did my research and I wanted a printer that had separate color tanks so that if I ran out of cyan ink I wouldn't have to trash the whole cartride that most likely had plenty of yellow and magenta inks. The individual tanks are far cheaper to buy (at about ~$$$ each) than a new color cartridge (~$$$).

Now for performance. The output quality is fantastic. I have printed out over 40 photos on 4x6 glossy photo paper (I have used 3 different premium glossy brands with little, if any, discernable difference in sharpness or color fidelity. I work for a large major medical equipment manufacturer and we ditribute "low-end" printers for over $10,000 that you would not be able to tell the difference in quality with the naked eye given the same source input. The bottom line is that the photo print capability of this printer is nothing short of stunning. I am also more than happy with the general purpose color and document printing on standard high resolution paper contrary to a number of reviews (usually from editorial product reviewers) that I have seen elsewhere.

The speed of both photo and general purpose printing is nothing short of astounding. I couldn't believe my eyes at the output speed of photo prints and general purpose documents. Documents came out nearly as fast as a laser printer I have at work. And the pinter is so darn quiet. Except for the normal "thunk" as the paper is fed into the machine, I can barely hear the printhead while it is in operation.

In short, if you are looking for a printer that is miserly on printing supplies that produces fabulous photo and general purpose output, then GET THIS MACHINE!

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad Printer Head
After 12 months of use the printer head went bad. I had problems with printing the color red. I've bought Canon printers in the past and really liked them but this is a bummer ... I'll think twice before I get another one.

I heard Howard Stern talk about how great canon printers are but he had a hard time finding replacement ink for it. So I started reading reviews for all printers and canon had great reviews for most of their printers and found replacemnet ink all over ebay. I decided on the I850 and was very happy with it.It's quiet, fast and great prints. I tried other "like canon" photo paper but soon learned to stick with genuine canon paper for best results. I was dissapointed the printer did not support 5x7 prints but turns out all i need to do was to download latest driver. Somehow after installing the driver the printhead went bad. Good thing it's still under warranty. Should I have to purchase another printer will most likely purchase another canon. ... Read more
