Block Products follows up their original Eyemodule digital cameraHandspring Visor module with the Eyemodule2, doubling the maximum resolution ofcolor images to 640 x 480 while decreasing the amount of space required to storethe pictures. The Eyemodule2 also captures video, although at a choppy 8 framesper second.

Like the original Eyemodule, the Eyemodule2 barely sticks out fromthe Visor module slot--just enough for the lens and capture button to protrude(with the lens cap on and the Visor in its leather case, the combinationresembles a liquor flask). The Eyemodule2 is incredibly simple to use--the viewthat it sees is displayed on the Visor screen and the capture button freezes animage. You'll see the image onscreen, and if you don't like it you can easilyerase it and try another.

Like with other digital cameras, a steady handproves necessary to capture sharp images, and this was made more difficult byhaving to hold the Visor/Eyemodule2 in our palm instead of being able to braceit with both hands like a normal camera. It seemed that even our steadiestefforts came back a bit grainy when viewed at full size. But the quality is highenough for putting pictures up on the Web at reduced size or printing them outat 3 by 5 inches.

Block Products has improved their storage methods aswell--640 x 480 color images take up less space than the 320 x 240 color imagesof the Eyemodule. We were able to house more than 60 shots on our Visor Deluxewith 6.5 MB of free memory. By dropping the images down to the 160 x 120 palmsize (which are black and white on all Visors except the color Prism), thestorage numbers increase by more than tenfold.

The Eyemodule2 also tossesvideo capture into the mix. At 8 frames per second and 160 x 120 resolution,it's not Lucas-level digital video, but it's enough to recognize folks andfollow motion. The Prism captures video in color, but other Visors only do blackand white. With 6 MB of free space, a little less than a minute and a half ofblack and white or 19 seconds of color video can be stored, so you won't bedocumenting the family reunion. The video files are converted to QuickTime whentransferred to your PC, so they can be easily e-mailed or uploaded to family andfriends.

Timed capture preferences let you take self-portraits, as well as setthe Eyemodule2 up for some time-lapse photography, taking multiple picturesevery few seconds, minutes, or hours. The timer also works for video, countingdown and then automatically capturing the set length of video.

The Eyemodule2isn't a substitute for a high-end digital camera, but it offers passable qualitycoupled with a lot of nifty features that up the value-add for this module.--J. Curtis

Really Slick - EyeModule 2!
My Visor Deluxe goes everywhere with me and contains my life in an organized fashion. While checking out add-ons I ran across the EyeModule 2 digital camera. It looked too good to be true. After reading other Amazon comments on this product, I was sold. In less than 20 minutes I owned one. I have to admit I love electronic gadgets, especially cameras. It is so small and weighs nearly nothing. And like one reviewer said, it comes in a slick little tin. The software was easy to load and it's really easy to use--just like the Visor Deluxe. The batteries in my Visor were half used up and I did get the message that I needed to change to new batteries in order to "capture" pictures. You can even make 5 second mini-movies, which I haven't tried out yet, but I'm sure it will be awesome. I'm going to South Africa and Zimbabwe in September and will use it as an adjunct to my SLR camera. And around town, there will be lots of chances to use it I know. I highly recommend this for all 'electronic junkies'and anyone else who wants to be able to take a photograph to document things, send e-mail photos. The only negative thing about the EyeModules is that like other reviewers said, you need to have lots of light and a steady hand.

Think of it as a digital "Polaroid" with free film!
320x240 is about the quality of the instant Polaroid cameras - not great, but more than adequate for quick snaps. The eyemodule is so small you can take it with you everywhere and take some photos you would otherwise miss. My 2-1/2 year old daughter loves it because she can see the pictures right away on the Visor screen. I print them out 6 or 8 to an 8.5x11 page and they look fine at that size. It's really a fun challenge to try to create a good photograph with that few pixels. I'm planning to create an online gallery of images soon. The time-lapse feature is a lot of fun - set it up and the camera will capture images at intervals you have set. Snapped into the Visor, it doesn't look like a camera, so you can take candid shots and no one even knows you are taking photos. Color images are about 190 KBytes each, so you will want the 8 MB version of the Visor. I can imagine real estate agents, insurance adjusters, salespeople, househunters, and anyone with kids will enjoy this cool little camera. My other digital camera is a Kodak DC260 with 1536x1024 resolution. The eyemodule is clearly no competition for it, but they both have a place and a purpose. The eyemodule is a fraction of the price, much smaller in size, and can grab a shot within a second of turning it on. Think of the eyemodule as a very small, more flexible digital alternative to Polaroids and you won't be disappointed. At over $1 a shot for Polaroids, the eyemodule will quickly pay for itself too.

Talk about instant gratification: attach the eyemodule to your Handspring Visor and you've got yourself a cool little digital camera. The eyemodule will capture photos in two sizes, in color or black and white, plus it can sync up with your Mac or PC, letting you download your little masterpieces for posterity.

Getting started with the eyemodule is as simple as sliding it into your Springboard expansion slot and turning it on--that's it. In order to start synching your images with your PC, though, you must install the eyemodule software from the accompanying CD-ROM. Mac users will also have to download a patch from the eyemodule Web site, but it's a speedy process that won't take more than a couple of minutes.

Once the software is installed, you're good to go. The eyemodule will hold up to 25 color images at 320 x 240 pixels, in 5 MB of free space on your Visor (and we even found that we could hold a few more than that). It will also hold up to 125 320 x 240 black and white images, or 500 small ones (at 160 x 120 pixels). The pictures are really on the tiny side, especially the ultratiny black and white ones, but we liked the way the size and color makes them kind of kitschy and cool. Image quality is not outstanding and is certainly not close to what you would get from even a semiprofessional digital camera, but it's definitely good enough to entertain friends and capture odd moments.

In color shots, the lighting leans toward the dramatic, with dark shadows and bright colors. Since there's no flash, you'll need to make extra sure that you're balancing the light. The viewfinder on the Visor screen will show you what you're shooting in black and white, and if you don't like the shot when you're done, you can simply erase it from the handheld and try again. The interface on the Visor is incredibly simple and intuitive--it consists of a capture mode, list mode (of collected shots), display mode, and a preferences screen, where you can change the resolution and capture settings.

Overall, don't expect to take award-winning photographs. The eyemodule is great, though, as a fun toy for the Visor. --Ara Jane Olufson

glad I waited this long to buy a photo printer
I'm not an 'early adopter'. Didn't buy a digital camera until I was convinced the photos would rival my good old OM-1! Same with the photo printer.

Anyway: The i960 looked so good in the store that it became a family Christmas present. We were all very pleased from the very first print.

We don't print anything without a quick check of framing/cropping on the computer's nice, big screen. So, who cares that the printer doesn't have a memory card slot or a 2-inch LCD for editing/previewing?

The supplied Easy Photo Print software is pretty easy to use and hasn't confused or disappointed us. We may never graduate to anything more sophisticated!

Prints made on the cheapest Canon 'Glossy Photo Paper' have impressed everyone. On the 'Pro' paper they have even more snap. We don't seem to have used up much ink yet either... so I really won't mind buying Genuine Canon cartridges when the time comes!

Yeah, the i960 resides toward the more-expensive end of the printer spectrum and it is optimized as a photo (vs. general purpose) printer. But if, like us, your goal is glorious photos you can't help but be pleased with its output. And the entertainment value of watching this 'magic' happen again and again is undeniable. Buy one!

Must have printer
Purchased this printer for photo printing only. Main reason was that it has two USB ports. Utilized the high speed port to connect an iMac flat panel and the full speed port to a Windows XP computer. Installation was a breeze and had both computers up and printing in 25 minutes. I have only printed out with the borderless 4x6 pro paper that came with the printer so my review is with limited use. I have a Nikon 885 3 mega-pixel camera taking pictures on the highest quality setting. The pictures are amazing with vibrant colors. Speed to print from the XP computer is immediate while the iMac typically takes an extra 10-20 seconds to send print information. Although, I believe this is the Mac OS X problem and not the printer since it takes this long to send information to the HP all-in-one also connected. The quality of the prints and the price of the printer make this an excellent buy. Compared the same photo from this printer to one done at a decent photo lab and was hard pressed to notice differences.

Poor Printer Head / Ink Cartridge Design
I am very disappointed in the Cannon i960 printer. The printer head is very poorly designed. I had great difficulty getting the print head and ink cartridges to work. I had to reseat the printer head 5 times before it would work. I had to reseat the magenta ink cartridge 5 times before it would work. It took 4 hours of reading the manual to diagnose all the errors I was getting and running tests to get this printer where it would print a color picture. Our last printer was an HP 895cse. The HP was easy to set up and ran great for 3 years. I wish we had bought another HP. I am very disappointed in the quality of this printer.

Direct, simple & complete.
After delivery, I checked out the directions printed on the sides of the box before opening it. My first opioion was that this was going to be a quick and easy assembly and application software uploaded to Zigzag, the name I've given to my computer. I unloaded the printer, power cable, the ink jet cartridges, & 4X6 photo paper insert. Then I unwrapped all shipping tape stripping from the products, placed the printer on its stand...please excuse my long windedness...attached the power cord, placed the ink cartridges in their appropriate spots, placed the 4X6 paper tray, expanded the the paper outputs trays, pluged in MY OWN USB cable...since one didn't come with the purchase.

There it was, ready to go. My second opinion was that all was easy. I uploaded the software following instructions. All was easy like drinking fine wine.

My first photo print was two 2X3 photos on one sheet of 4X6 glossy paper supplied with the Canon i906. The detailed printing application was a breeze, the color and detail quality were excellent, as good/better than photo lab processing. I'm a Happy Photographer & Happy Photo Printer thanks to my new CANON i960. Enjoy.

DOESN'T WORK NO CABLE INCLUDED RUN
I can't believe why no cable was included knowing that it uses only one kind of cable. Now I have to go get a cable somewhere. So basically the price of the printer is $20 more then list price. If there were choices of cable to use I can understand but it only uses USB. ... Read more

CH Pedals are good but don't buy from Proactive Electronics
CH Pedals are the BEST. My only problem is that I've purchased the product from Proactive Electronics!! Don't buy a thing from this reseller!! They were quick charging the $122 dollars to my credit card on 3/22/2004 but until today, the product has not been received. Went to fedEx to track the shipment with the tracking number emailed to me by Proactive Electronics 1.5 weeks after placing my order, and the manifest shows it was delivered to another address. After a quick call to FedEx they told me it wasn't their fault because Proactive Electronics entered the wrong direction. Proactive Electronics is now blaming FedEx. They send 2 emails asking me to do more research, bu not a word on crediting my VISA card.
Again, don't put your money in risk buying from an unreliable company.

Very realistic for $100: lets me practice the real thing!
PERFORMANCE: Flight Simulator recognized that I had both pedals and the yoke installed when it started up. I selected a Cessna 172 at JZI (pilot talk for Charleston Executive Airport on John's Island, SC) and gave the system a try. My immediate thought was "Man! These pedal springs are light!" I took off my shoes to give me a better feel to start off with. My other thought was that the toe brakes are also very light, and they have more travel than I am used to on a real plane, a compromise of being able to use these pedals for driving as well.

Teething Pains. I managed a reasonable roll down the runway, using the pedals effectively (I thought) for rudder control. But once I was in the air, the rudders were no longer effective. Back on the ground the differential brakes didn't seem to be working correctly. Even with my feet off the pedals, the differential brakes were constantly coming on. THEN...I tried several times to set the sensitivities within Flight Simulator, hoping I could set a null zone to keep the pedals from being applied when I wasn't pressing the toe brakes, but each time I tried this the system seemed to reset the settings to the defaults. It turns out that I had forgotten to disable the auto-rudder feature of Flight Simulator. The rudders are effective on the ground even with auto-rudder turned on, but differential braking is affected when you turn the yoke. Auto-rudder activated the differential brakes every time I turned the yoke side to side, which made me think the pedals were not properly set.

Learning Curve. It took a few hours for my feet to remember how airplanes turn. To turn left, you step on the left pedal, and you step on the right pedal for a right turn, naturally. Maybe so, but we had a few trips off the runway before I could convince my dogs to cooperate.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Ultimately the pedals worked great. The sliding action is very realistic, and they enable me to perform all sorts of maneuvers that just can't be done without them, like a full power takeoff in an Extra 300 aerobatic aircraft (so much power that without rudder controls the torque pulls you off the side of the runway!). I was also able to do full slips on landing, crosswind corrections, even aerobatics with vertical tail slides for almost 100 feet. The Pro-pedals, dont work with many games, but they r the only pedals that have oppistite sliding "action", and i cant get them 2 work with any of the flight sims i have (alot) and they cost,alot but there the closest pedals 2 the real thing, and i got them 2 years ago for christmas and pulled them out of my closet yesterday, and plugged them into the USB port, and When u do that a window should pop up and say "new software detected" but it didnt then my dad and i had 2 go 2 CH.com and install a ton of drivers, and yet none of them worked. hopefully some day well figure out how 2 get them working. but for the people that can get them working there awesome pedals, and thats y i gave it 3 stars.

You get what you pay for...
Ok, before we go in depth, remember this inequality(or whatever it is) CH Produts = The best quality out there.
These are the best. They are so durable, you ould probably drop them from the 10 story of a skysraper and nothing would happen. The problem: You have to be a flight sim freak to use them. The package says you can use them as pedals for cars, but forget that (unless you drive witha joystick). This is because most steering wheels either come witha pair of pedals and the wheel only works with them, or the game nly supports one controller.
So, dont complain about these not working as standalone controllers. They were not supposed to !!!! They were suppossed to be part of a HOTAS(if you dont know what that means, DONT BUY THEM). However, if you are a flight sim freak, and want simulation to the edge of the envelope, you will NEED these.

Toebrakes work perfectly in MS CFS2 and MS FS2002
Under controller assignments 'assign axis' both Microsoft FS2002 and CFS2 menues allow assigning the up and down movement of the pedals to the toebrakes, right and left. Pushing (forwards and backwards) on pedals moves the rudder. It all works perfectly giving a variable analogue brake, the harder you push the more brake you apply. Taxiing the plane using rudder and brakes together works smooth and is easy to control. I velcroed the pedals to a large plywood sheet and attached the sheet to the desk legs with small angle brackets and machine screws. A large sheet so I could later move the pedals around to different positions on the board.

I use this setup: Fighterstick USB, ThrottlePro USB, Pro Rudder Pedals USB, all CH branded. All 3 of these combine with CH's software to make one huge virtual device. So if you then go to Windows control panel's game control applet you see 1 device not 3. That one device has six axis and 32 buttons! Never calibrate it there (doing that will screw it all up). Instead ONLY calibrate it in the CH software.

I assigned those six axes to: 1 HorizStickX 2 VertStickY 3 Wheel on the stick (Fuel mixture lean/rich), 4 Throttle, 5 Right brake, 6 Left brake. FS2002 would let me assign them to other controls if I had prefered).

WOW! Great Photo Printer For Just A Bit More Than New Ink
My old HP 880C needed new ink cartridges but I felt the money spent on ink (forty - fifty dollars) would be better spent towards a new, up-to-date technology printer. Man, prices have come down in the five years since I got the HP. Print quality has gone the opposite way (way up). This printer prints FANTASTIC photos. The sample Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy prints are indistinguishable from lab prints...in many ways they're even better because you can crop/frame exactly what you want and print only the shots you really like. I love this printer. Right now, Amazon sells a 50 pack of the Canon 4x6 photo paper plus for just under 8 bucks with free super saver shipping on twenty-five dollar orders. In addition, consider that this printer has separate ink cartridges and relatively cheap ink prices and you can't go wrong.

Great printer for price!
I just bought the i560 last week when my BJ2000 died. I use my printer frequently for school papers and this printer prints very crisp, clear letters. More recently, I started using it to print out pictures. My BJ2000 could also do pictures, but not near as well as this printer. I used the Canon 4x6 Photo Paper Plus Glossy sample that came with the printer and was very impressed with the quality of the pictures. They looked at least as good as the ones I get when I send them out to be developed. It also has some great tools to optimize photos which gives you an even better picture. The only drawback that I have found so far is that pictures don't seem to come out as 'pretty' if you use general purpose photo/imaging film. Glossy photos seem to come out the best.

Best Value I've Found
For speed, print quality, quiet operation, long ink cartridge life, and versitility this bets the Epson, HP, Lexmark, and Panasonic competition by far. I've been using the i560 for 11 months and have no complaints. I sold all my other printers at a yard sale last spring and haven't missed any of them.

You cant do better for your money
My last printer from a few years back was an Epson. At first the printer was good then there was the dreaded clogged print head which frequent Epson printers. After that I swore that my next printer would have the option of replacing the print head. Fast forward a few years forward and I purchased the i560 with complete budget on mind. I wasnt expecting anything other than an average printer, when I began using the unit I found that its more than an average printer.

Good:
Borderless printing on glossy paper is amazing with this unit even at 8x11.5 paper. The printer has a decent build and the seperate color tanks is a fantastic. Text printing has been the majority of the printing use for this unit but photos from my 2MP camera look amazing on the 4x5 photo plus paper.

Bad:
As with any product you can find flaws. Borderless prints will have a very thin line (as thin as a strand of fine hair) at the bottom of the print. This is mostly noticable if your looking for it and if its on black. From what I understand when printing photos it doesnt use the black ink but the combination of the 3 colors to produce black.

In either cases these are not major issues and shouldnt stop anyone from purchasing this unit if your in the sub 100 range for a printer.

Great little printer
I just bought this and I am really impressed. I have used only Epson printers before this and finally dumped them because the print heads always jammed or it ran out of ink after having to repeatedly clean the heads. I came to a point where I needed a new ink cartridge for my Epson 785EPX and they were $50 for 2 at CostCo OR I could buy a new Canon i560s for $80 and ink is only $30 for 2 (all CostCo prices). Well I bought the Canon and will never go back to Epson.

First, the Canon has a replaceable print head. So if it every wears out or gets clogged you can replace the print head and don't have to toss the whole printer. 2nd, its very quiet - much, much less noisy than that my Epsons. 3rd, the print quality is very, very good. B&W text is laser quality but print speed seemed a little slow (maybe I had it on high quality). Color images print surprisingly fast - faster than on the Epson and Web pages with mixed text and colored items print extremely quickly. 4th, I agree with another reviewer who says the ink cartridges don't have chips in them. So I assume that this printer will continue to let you print if one tank is out of ink. The most annoying thing with Epson is that if you are out of color ink, the printer will not print - not even B&W text until you replace the color ink! ... Read more

portability at a price
I print on the go all the time, and sometimes, at conferences and events, it's been more than a lifesaver. Printing good photos on the go seemed a natural addition.

Problems with this printer include: need really good quality paper for decent prints (consistent with Canon printers in my experience); Canon's warranty is lousy (and they have screwed me before with products that broke a couple months after warranty expired); photo quality is less than a dedicated 6- or 8-ink desktop printer; expensive inks.

Primary use: printing at conferences or other public events that keep you away from an office. Kinkos beware--this thing handles most of the jobs that I'd run to a business center to do while on the go. HOWEVER, without buying the extra battery, you're still on the prowl for the power outlets, along with everyone else in the room.

Secondary use: traveling, where snapshots of friends can be handed over while still on the go. I tend to travel light, so carrying a printer is a bit nuts, and the inks run out quickly, but sometimes there's no replacement for printing a photo of some new friend and giving them a copy while on the go.

Tertiary use: desktop printer. There's cheaper, faster, better alternatives for this use though--but it does fine as a backup (or when I want to print from a room without a printer without getting up).

My recommendation? Wait a little longer: the quality will only improve, and eventually Canon will bundle the battery with their 'portable' printer (instead of charging an extra hundred bucks to make your portable actually usable on the go).

Good portable printer
The canon i80 is a good portable printer-not a replacement for a good workgroup printer or photo printer. I've had it for around 2 months now and put it through lots of use. In general, the quality is fairly good-monochrome printing is almost up to par with lasers. Color graphics are pretty decent-but remember that this is not a dedicated photo printer Speed is a bit slow-somewhat slower than advertised, but acceptable. It does tend to use lots of ink, and the ink cartridges are fairly expensive, though you do get 2 of them per pack. On the good side, the ink cartridges are easily refillable with any standard kit-but you will need to drill holes on the top after you peel back the label. It only holds around 20-30 sheets of paper and you'll need to fan through them before loading them in the sheet feeder or it will often pull in more than one sheet at a time. It seems pretty durable-I usually carry it with a laptop so it gets lots of travel and there are no alignment problems at all. My only real complaint is that I got it for its bluetooth capability. There is a dedicated bluetooth unit made for this printer, but it's not currently available from Canon or anywhere else I looked. I could get a universal, but that would defeat the purpose of having everything built in. If you're looking for portability, then this is the only way to go. Otherwise, you may be better off with a larger inkjet or a monochrome laser.

Class by Itself
No real competition thus somewhat expensive. Fast, excellent quality photo prints even with generic cartridges. Comes with 120v-220v (to 16v 1.8a) dual voltage adapter. USB cable not included. IRDA. Excellent documentation. Somewhat flimsy feeling. Wish it were still lighter and smaller. Easy but seamful install.

update 08 Apr 2004: On more thorough examination, the generic cartridges made photos with a bit too much red, YMMV.

Quick Install, Beautiful Photos!
This printer replaces an older HP color ink jet for me. Installation was quick and easy using my USB 2.0, the printer is backwards compatable with the slower USB 1.1 ports. The USB 2.0 is about 20 times faster than the older USB version 1.1 ports.

The printer includes six ink cartridges, software, and two different cables to connect directly to Canon cameras but not the needed USB cable to connect the printer to the computer. A nice feature is the included media adapters that will take your camera memory and plug them into the printer's PCMCIA port. My package included a Canon adapter for CompactFlash and another by Dazzle that works for four different types including SmartMedia.

The prints are simply beautiful using the sample of five sheets of included glossy paper. The colors are accurate and sharp. The 4x6 frameless prints take less than a minute to print out, 30 minutes to completely dry and they recommend 24 hours before putting them under glass or in an album.

The printer can be used without a computer connected to it using the LCD screen on the righthand side of the machine and a camera's memory card. The image adapter available for [X] connects to a port on the top of the printer to allow you to preview pictures when used to print without the computer.

Great Pictures
It took a lot of searching before I decided to purchase a good printer and this one is a great one. The pictures are clear and they print fast. I showed them to friends and didn't tell them that I printed them at home and they were very surprised when I told them. Spend the extra money and get a good printer. This printer also include photo ink, which is really needed for a clean print. Make sure you also get the right paper.

Great printer
I acquired an S830D recently.

You don't need the auxiliary screen to print directly from the memory card slot.

To access the cropping capabilities, yes, you need a screen or a compatible camera, but not to print from a memory card. Inserting a memory card (and I've used both CompactFlash and SmartMedia from both Canon and Olympus cameras) causes the S830D to go into a mode that activates automatic print functions on the printer control board. You can print an index sheet of thumbnail images, print all images in a wide variety of multi-print-per-page formats, selected prints using the index and vary the print media and quality from plain paper to Photo Paper Pro.

I have been very happy with both the color and the contrast produced by the printer with no computer intervention.

As for the rest of the printer's features, photo lab quality, good ink economy, fast and quiet operation.

This is the best printer I have ever owned.

A great choice
... That said, I'm very happy with this printer. Other reviews, like the one on C|Net, have faulted the printer for mediocre text printing. I can't really address that complaint...have a laser printer for text and only use the S830 for printing photos and I'm very, very happy with how it performs that function. It's fast, I like being able to replace the ink cartridges separately, supports Exif if your digital camera outputs the encrypted data and the pictures are indistinguishable from those printed conventionally. It's the perfect color printer for my advanced amateur needs.

beautiful photo printer
Other review has talked much about this printer. I only have few comments for those who don't know:
- First, the USB cable is not included. You have to buy the USB cable to install the software to re-align the print head, for example. The print head was factory set and produce beautiful print though
- Second, the little LCD screen is not included and cost 100 USD to purchase separately. You need it if you print photo directly from your memory card in the built in slot of the printer. Without the screen, you can't print from this slot.
- Third, there are "selected" Canon camera that support direct print with this printer. My ELPH S110 only works with the CP-10 or CP-100 photo printer, but not with this printer. What a pain!
- 4"x6" borderless paper is what you probably need as it give a nice borderless photo at ease. Printing direct on A4 or letter paper waste a lot of paper at the edge. You may as well cut the A4 to 4 pieces and print from the PC, which allow you to print, say, A6 borderless photo. Don't get bother with the perforated paper.
- The sample pack paper give the best result. I wonder if they sell it.
- Turn on the Image optimizer with Vivid photo option gives even better picture when printing direct.
- If you don't want the direct printing, or you always edit your photo first before printing, go for some other Canon printer that do not have direct printing, it will save you some big bucks.

My wife loves this printer, because she can work with it alone, without a PC. That's the point, after all, to have a direct printing option, right? ... Read more

Do not look elsewhere!
Buy this printer now! I can't say enough about how incredibly good this baby performs, and for less than $100! You basically get a printer with the specifications and features of a machine that would normally run $200+. The ability of direct printing via memory cards, and print resolution that rivals most high-end printers make this a no-brainer.

My only issue is with this listing, i wish Amazon would be a bit more competitive with their price.

I have fallen in love with this printer! It is extremely easy to set up and use, and it comes with all kinds of extras. And the photo print quality is just amazing! NO MORE BUYING PRINTS!!!! This is the best printer ever!!!!! It definatly lived up to my expectations. I always used to use just a regular printer for my photos and i hated the lines that were left on the pictures from the printer. This makes the pictures sooooo clear, from only a 2.1 MP camera! The best part is it prints directly from memory cards so you don't even have to go through the computer to get the pictures. It works with Compact flash, smart media, memory stick, secure digital and mulimedia. It is also extremely easy to use! I thought the directions were very easy to understand. All in all if your thinking of buying a photo printer buy this one!

Most Bang for the Buck
I got it a couple days ago and have been printing some 4/6s and 8/10s ,going through the easy photo with little adjustment,the pictures from a piddly 2.0 Fuji were just outstanding.Not having the multitank ink cartridges is no big deal,ink is cheap enough.Plenty of good printers out there for the money,but having owned a standard Lex printer,an Epson 88onaither of which I was happy with.It was a toos up with American made H/P and Canon.

much more than i expected!
i was looking for a photo printer that takes the memory stick directly with a price less than $100. Using Amazon's reviews i located a similar Canon printer (there were no reviews of this model yet) and, based on price, selected the i475D. WOW! The prints are great, which is the first consideration for me. Crisp, clean, true in color, in short, everything i hoped for when i decided to start doing my own prints. Yesterday i printed six 8x10s and two dozen 4x6s and the ink gauge shows that i still have half a tank. All these photos are from my digital camera, yet there is no way that i can tell that they didn't come from my beloved Canon SLR, and i am VERY picky. i also printed an 8x10 b&w from a scan, and this printer corrected flaws that my other printer simply couldn't.

The software and documentation are first-rate. There are two manuals, one a quick-and-dirty and the other more detailed, and they complement each other. The printer software is intuitive and easy, and it dovetails seamlessly with my favorite viewer, IrfanView. And there is plenty of capacity for playing with the settings to get specific effects if that's something a person is interested in doing.

The convenience of printing precisely which shots and the number i need is well worth the rather minimal cost of getting set up with a photo printer, especially considering the time that i don't spend fooling around with making reprints at the photo store. i recently took candids at a wedding and used this printer to make sets of prints especially for each set of friends without all the bother of getting the film developed, selecting the prints and quantities, then trekking to the shop for reprints.

Great sounding, stable, AAA battery-driven gem.
I loved my player/recorder. It sounded great, recorded well, and had good expandable memory with the SM slot. It even looked slick. A friend bought one, seeing mine.
Only downsides: First, no recording level, so you have to experiment with the external source for line-in and use the built-in (very capable) mic for voice. (and you can adjust the recording quality setting beforehand. Second, the order of the songs are unchangeable, playing in the order that they were downloaded using the software designed to use with the player. Third, relating to the second, it cannot be used for an external flashdrive as it does not have a drag-and-drop feature.
Those faults were minor for the price and quality I experienced while I had mine. Alas, after many months of happy use, mine was stolen. I've tried two other players from other companies since (one a flash-drive, one a hard-drive, both with the external drive feature and fm radio, but both exhibiting poor quality). I should have just bought this one again.
So, consider buying the Ripflash Plus for its AAA battery freedom and $100 price (IPODs are a problem for both these reasons). Once you buy it, enjoy its rich feature set and good sound. And now Pogo! has added a a theft protection service. That doesn't mean you'd get it back if it got stolen, but nice thought anyway, Pogo!

Great product, puzzling controls
If the RipfFlash Plus wasn't such a good electronic device, its unfathomable controls would have compelled me to toss it off a bridge long ago. I use it for voice recording. There its virtues shine. It is as small and light as a compact cell phone. It records flawlessly in nearly any situation I've tried: one-on-one interviews, lectures, speeches, Internet conferences et al. Even without the accessory flash card, it has the capacity to records hours and hours of good quality voice. Its batteries are readily available and long lasting. Downloads to my home computer take a matter of seconds for an hour-long interview. Those are the virtues.
Here are the detriments: Multi-use controls completely lacking any sense of user friendliness. Every time I have to erase a file, I'm forced to return to the manual and struggle for 20 minutes to follow its unclear instructions. That process of erasing files involves cycling through a menu to an appropriate selection. While that selection remains on the screen, then you must depress another button labeled only with an icon and then press yet a third button precisely the right amount of time to initiate the erasure process. If you lag too long, the menu selection disappears and you must begin anew. If you press the button too long, the whole device shuts down. The RipFlash Plus was clearly designed by the same people who gave drivers the IDrive on the BMW 745 where it takes scrolling through six menus while driving to change a radio station selection. One other gripe. There is no Mac software to use to download digital information. I'm in publishing. We use Macs at work. That means I must first download the digital information from my RipFlash Plus on my home PC, burn a CD and carry it to work.

RipFlash Plus: know what you're getting into
I purchased a RipFlash Plus 256 MP3 player/recorder in June 2004 to record voice interviews. Major flaws in its construction and in its download software mean you are very likely to lose your recordings. To make matters worse, customer support is very resistant to issuing refunds for faulty equipment.

It produces decent sound quality, though the recordings have a constant low-level hum in the background.

Two main problems with the unit make it very problematic for capturing recordings:

1) The software provided (and required) to download the sound files to computer over USB is very flakey - sometimes it works, sometimes does not connect, sometimes downloads only part of the sound file but indicates it is "done." This happens on both of the newer Dell computers that I've tried it on. By contrast, all other devices I attach to the USB ports on these same computers exchange files flawlessly.

2) The RipFlash Plus is able to hold a SmartMedia card and record to it. This would seem to be an alternative to downloading through the USB connection - just remove the SmartMedia card, insert it into your computers card reader, and copy off the files. BUT . . . the ejector button on the RipFlash broke the second time I ejected a card, and appears likely to break on any unit. The ejector button pushes the card out with two very tiny brittle plastic tabs. It takes almost nothing to break one (in my case, just ejecting the card did it.) Then, you can't get the card out, or if you do fish it out, you can no longer position it in correctly without the button in place.

Regarding customer support . . . when the unit arrived in the mail, I discovered that they had thrown in a "voice activated TV remote" - at no charge, and without any advance notice - a device they don't sell on their site. I can't imagine anything more useless than that so I tossed it immediately. After obtaining an RMA from them and returning the broken RipFlash, they at first tried to charge me a "restocking" fee for the useless recorder. After I put my credit card company on their case, they finally refunded the full amount. Then, they decided they needed to charge me $40 for the throw-away remote that they had sent unsolicited, so they made a new charge on my card for it.

You might want to consider the options before you decide to try the RipFlash Plus.

Fantastic Gadget, Sound Volume little low but not that bad!
I just received my Ripflash 256 mb. I like it very much.
Opened the box. It had a small mini disc with the drivers, a usb cable, a blue case, a carry cord, an arm band, ear-phones, 2 AAA batteries, a stereo 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable for line-in recordings. Immediately installed it on my XP system. Loaded a couple of MP3 files and started playing it. Found the Volume a little low from the speakers but still tolerable, as i was searching for a model with a built-in speaker. For the price what i paid i did not expect the greatest volume..and it is still better than not having a built-in speaker. Other than that everything was great. Also ordered the 128 mb smart-media card for expansion. On some Mp3 files, the sound volume was awsome...i am not sure why. I am guessing it could be the recording. Bottom line, I am very happy with it no matter what other people have said about it. And yes, thanks to all the reviewers out there, it helped me in making my decision to buy it. I bought this after researching almost more than 40 - 60 mp3 players. In case you want to research them, a good place to go to is cnet.com...search for music and click mp3 players. A huge list of all the latest models shows up. Have fun.

The latest version on the POGO site (2.38) gives you a new feature designed to be used with a pre-amplified mic (POGO SELLS)

That set up is great and I get great quality recordings.

The PLUS is a cool MP3 player with many features. The manual is not well written but common sence will get you buy because the product is so easy to use. You really don't need the manual.

If you are on a budget and would like an MP3 player that can record the RIPFLASH is the way to go.

Simple Modem Installation
One of the simplist installation of a modem I ever had. Running Win2000 just installed the board and followed the on screen prompts to install the driver. Had it running in five mins. Would have to recommend this modem. Speed seems to be faster than my old modem blaster which findly gave out.
