1-0 out of 5 stars Just a warning from an experience with the DVI version
I'm extremely unhappy with the Belkin OmniView SOHO Series 4-Port KVM DVI Switch with Audio. I'm sure most of this applies for the VGA version

1) It is nearly impossible to connect a cable to the console DVI Connector. Belkin had to overnight a special extender to connect the monitor DVI cable to the KVM.
2) Connecting the Power Adapter to the KVM blocks one of the peripheral USB ports.
3) It's absolutely impossible to put on the cover (i.e. cable management cover) if you connect the four (Belkin) cables to it.
4) Connecting only two PCs with a resolution of 1600x1200 to the KVM resulted in green shadows for one connection. (both NVidia cards GeForce 4 (4200 series) and a Geforce 5 (5200 series)
5) The Microsoft Wireless Keyboard doesn't work as stated in the manual. I did manage to plug in the wireless dongle connector to the USB mouse port on the KVM but now I can't use the hotkeys to switch between computers. Belkin has also indicated that wireless keyboards don't always work as stated in the manual

6) There isn't a FAQ or software/firmware upgrade listed for this device. I would recommend checking out the belkin support pages or lack there of.

3-0 out of 5 stars If you're patient, it will kind of work
This is my review for the Belkin 4-port USB/Audio/VGA KVM. I share with you the following experiences and tips.

First, you can't NOT plug in a USB keyboard without the unit beeping incessantly. However, if you have a wireless keyboard/mouse combo that has a single USB dongle on the receiver, you have to plug it into the mouse USB port on the KVM to use the both the wireless mouse AND keyboard. Which causes the no keyboard beep. Which will drive you nuts.

I spent approx. 2 hours trying to update the firmware to a NO KEYBOARD BEEP revision available from Belkin. It requires enabling a parallel port in your BIOS, making sure to set the BIOS port to NORMAL as opposed to ECP, EPP, BI-DIRECTIONAL, etc. This is NOT documented, from what I could tell.

Additionally, Belkin recommends running a firmware driver fix for Win2K and WinXP machines prior to the firmware flash, as the firmware updater won't recognize the parallel port properly without the driver update. A friend also noted that you should to run the updater in compatibility mode (Win98) in WinXP and Win2K.

The firmware update took about 5-10 minutes. After the update, you're asked to disconnect ALL cables from the unit to get it to reset. ALL CABLES MUST BE REMOVED -- POWER INCLUDED. Be prepared for it to beep again when it resets. I honestly thought the firmware flash had not worked when I heard it.

I read online that this KVM DOES NOT WORK WITH DOCKING STATIONS, which is why I bought the unit for use with my desktop and a Dell laptop/port replicator. Thankfully, it DID WORK, and I was able to switch from desktop to laptop/docking station without too much trouble.

Sometimes, when the USB is switching, the computer that I'm going to can't reinitialize the USB device and WinXP throws a minor error. I just go back and forth for a second to get it to re-initialize. Try switching to an empty KVM channel if you need to.

I'm wary of using the KVM's built in USB hub (2-port) because of this USB switching issue. I had planned on connecting a USB hard drive between the two computers, but I'm concerned that I would (a) lose data or (b) damage the hard drive switching back and forth between the two computers, particularly if USB switching doesn't always work.

So far, I've used it while playing hi-res games on my desktop which hasn't caused additional problems like video or USB bandwidth issues. Good luck with your purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality product
While this KVM works great with USB mice, it has terrible support for USB keyboards.

I have one of these at work and I've had nothing but problems. It will randomly type 77777777777 or something when I hit the shift key. The shift key randomly gets stuck for no aparent reason when I'm selecting text. Everytime I press CTRL-ALT-DEL to log onto a computer after switching to it, I am unable to type anything for over a minute unless I press a bunch of the shift keys to 'unstick' them. The problem is, the USB KVM switch is RE-INTERPRETTING the USB keyboard signal so that it can trap the Scoll-Lock key (used for switching). This is totally unacceptable because it also breaks the functionality if you have an enhanced keyboard like the kind from logitech which has many additional keys (volume, scroll wheel, etc).

This device would have been MUCH better if it simply acted like a disconnect/reconnect of the USB cable (which is perfectly fine) for the keyboard.

I'll wait awhile until USB-DVI-KVM switches mature before purchasing one for home use.

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm Likin' It
I shopped for a USB 4-port KVM for months before settling upon the Belkin. Realizing that nothing is perfect, I was hoping for something usable.

I use four computers (2 Dells, 1 Mac & 1 home built). I use two sets of kb (keyboard) and mice (one set for me, one for my better-half). The Mac is still not fully functional for me but maybe it doesn't like my Microsoft Natural Pro kb.

The kb multimedia keys did not work when the kb was plugged into the regular kb port, but thanks to the (limited) 2 port USB hub, the extra keys now work fine.

I don't use the audio anymore (a couple computers I have are not built for sound), but it seemed fine when I did use it (listening to MP3 or even CD through computer speakers isn't requiring any high-end 5.1 audio).

I would like to be able to use the extended kb and mouse options w/o having to use the built-in USB hub, but at least the option exists.

I had/have issues with the lack of firmware updates, since there have not been any yet. Belkin should have something built-in to recognize different kb/mouse settings for each port if it intends to have all computer specific drivers for these devices set to standard. How about just setting something in a software setting that Belkin could easily build into the KVM.

The best part of my deal though was taking advantage of Belkin's 50% off deal (directly through Belkin).

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this crap!
We have 4 of them. 3 of them have keyboard connection burned out. All of which we had various problems. Problem range from number key stucking to particular key (F7) not working. firmware upgrade isn't easy since they provide 40pin serial connector. (who has a PC with 40pin connector these days?) Oh, and firmware upgrade made the thing worse. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars hate it!
I was excited to find this case at Target (none of the other stores seemed to have ANYTHING), and I kinda liked it at first, but it's really more trouble than it's worth.
1. It's a pain to get my iPod in and out of it
2. The click wheel does work with the iPod in the case, but just barely
3. It left black marks on my earphones too!
4. It's just easier to carry my iPod in my back pocket
I'm thinking of buying the clip case, it looks a lot better.

1-0 out of 5 stars stupid case
i hate this case! i made a better case than this and had more luck! first of all, there is no hole for the click wheel! even though u can still use the click wheel, its easier to use it when its out of the case. Like most cases, it colected a lot of dust, but that is the leastof my worries. also, the ipod is impossible to get out of the case without (A) scratching the Ipod and (B) permanately bending the case so it doesnt fit right. Keep looking for that special case, its out there somewhere. I hope.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this item!
I bought mine the day after I bought my iPod because a friend had told me the shiny little guys scratch easily. All seemed good; I liked the neoprene non-slip surface for working out. Operating the controls seemed clumsy at first but I got used to it. It was worth the hassle to be "protecting" my investment. Today I noticed that a hair had slipped inside the plastic cover, so I took the iPod out for the first time in 4 months to clean it. I found that the screen is completely scratched with fine wear marks from the plastic rubbing against it. (I had noticed the screen getting harder to read, but figured the plastic had gotten dirty.) The back of the unit is also completely scratched. I may as well have been throwing it in my backpack unprotected!

2-0 out of 5 stars There's got to be a better case!
This case does not protect from scratches! My screen is somehow scratched up and I always have it in this case. Also the bottom opening isn't big enough for the monster digital tuner/charger.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than the Provided Carrier, Like a WetSuit!
This case is great.I use my iPod in the car and at work, and I like to be able to rotate through songs quickly and easily. The case that comes with the iPod is hard and opaque, so you can't push the buttons or turn the wheel.

This case has one transparent plastic side and a cute belt clip mounted on neoprene (think wetsuit material) on the other. The drawstring at the top seals the case, protecting it from most damage.

This case has served me well for the better part of a year, and has kept food and drink out of the buttons! The only concern I have is that sometimes moisture gathers between the face of the iPod and the clear plastic. If I take the iPod out and use a cloth to soak up the water, it is good for another few months. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great mouse!
This is a great mouse for mobile users. It's a minimouse which means it is more compact and smaller than standard mice out there. I can't believe a reviewer complained about the mouse being too small - its supposed to be small! ON that note, it's only about 33% smaller than a regular mouse - making it a bit more convenient for mobile users, while still being large enough to be functional (I have big hands and even I didnt think it was that bad).

I also saw people saying it only has a 3 foot long cord, which is false. I just measured the cord and it is almost 6 feet long - plenty of cable, especially since it is designed for MOBILE users and is MEANT FOR USE ON LAPTOPS. If you want a regular sized mouse, get a regular mouse.

The small size makes this mouse ideal for people who want to use a real mouse with thier laptops (those touch pads and pointers are a pain) but think a regular mouse is just a bit too bulky to carry around with them everywhere.

The mouse is also a USB device, and worked perfectly with plug and play on my windows XP home edition laptop. I plugged it in, and it worked - that was it. They also include a USB to PS/2 adapter - which is nice. Even when using PS/2 as an interface for the mouse I didnt really need to install any drivers for it to work (scroll functions included) and it didnt need batteries or anything like that either, all power came through the cord.

This mouse is also an OPTICAL mouse, meaning it has no rubber ball to clean or worry about. This also means that it has very smooth and precise control and can be used on almost any flat, non-reflective surface. This is GREAT for mobile users as you can use the mouse on your thigh or a book - meaning it wont be a pain to use on the bus or plane!! The scroll wheel is great, as expected and means that you dont need to sacrifice funtionality for portabnillity (I cant live without a scroll wheel!).

As if that weren't enough, it's extremely light, attractively designed, and is fairly comfortable considering it's small size thanks to an ergonomic design. It is also designed to work for both RIGH AND LEFT HANDED people.

A great mouse for people on the go.

4-0 out of 5 stars "Good" Mouse, not "Great"
I purchased this mouse because of its attractive price being it is optical. It was very easy to setup on my Windows 98 desktop, although I guess it is used for laptops. But at any rate, I loved the simplicity of this mouse.

The draw back was the wheel for me. When ever I would want to scroll down a page and it would run over a drop-down list, it would change the setting of the web page and take me places I didn't want. This happens EVEN if the selected option in the drop-down list is NOT HIGHLIGHTED. But if you switch its mode to Default, then the mouse only allows you to scroll 1 line per scroll unit! That is too slow for me! Even if you change the Scroll Speed, it doesn't work if you remain in Default. It is not a major problem, but an annoying one. Other than that, this mouse is small and durable, which I prefer. I would rate it a 3.5 if I could, but 3 would sound too low. So I rated it 4 stars, especially considering its sticker price.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Mouse - While it lasted.
I have to say that this mouse is very well designed for laptop users. It was a great mouse, and, you can read the other reviews to find out how.

I bought this mouse when I bought my Toshiba Laptop for use in school. The mouse worked great:
*Instantly recognized when plugged in.
*Small size perfect for portable use.
*Etc Etc.

The problems started after about 8 months of constant use, being carried from class to class, being unplugged and plugged several times everyday. It worked great untill the cord got a short in it. The mouse started to stop working if you moved the cord close to the USB connector. I fixed this by cutting off about a foot of the cord and the USB connector, and connecting another one. This seemed to solve the problem, but now, after exactly a year of using the mouse, the laser light on it is turning on and off for no apparent reason, and I am afraid I am now shopping for a new mouse.

Therefore I conclude that while this mouse is great for laptops, in is not durabble enough to be called truelly portable. It cannot stand up to the use that a mobile laptop user would give it. However, I have to be fair and mention that the plug on my power supply eventually came off after being plugged and unplugged so often, so this mouse is not the only non-durable laptop item.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mini my foot!
Not a true "mini" mouse. It is about as bulky and cumbersome as the cheapy mouse that comes with bundled PC packages. Not at all suitable for small hands (or people with a hand disability) as it so claims. It may have fared better had Belkin omitted the word "mini" from its name. A hassle downloading drivers which were not easy to find on Belkin's site. Also, there was no USB-to-PS/2 adapter in the package; you'd have to call the vendor and special-request it which they ship to you standard. They don't expedite.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for laptops
I bought this mouse to go w/ my laptop. I love it except for the super long cord. There is a debate on if it is 3 or 6ft long... but it's too long for me either way. Other than that though it has been extremely durable and I can use it on just about any surface. I highly recommend it. :) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A good little router
I purchased this cable/dsl router locally for a very good price and have found it offers relatively the same features as the Linksys and Netgear equivalents. The device itself is easy to setup, and works well with a standard high speed connection. The reviewer whose kept losing his cable modem connection may have had this problem due to a cable modem that does not support DHCP or possibly his provider uses PPPOE, though I am unsure if cable could. If so he would have to specially configure the router. I have not have any disconnection problems or connection problems whatsoever.

A plus to the browser interface is the direct link to firmware update, a hands off install of them and the ability to configure many options and settings. The browser interface could be set up better, but it not terrible and easily navigated.

The manual is very weak. There is no explanation for the advanced features, such as the VPN for remote management and I have yet to make this work. The DMZ and port filtering is vague and confusing as well, which as limited my success in implementing it. One reviewer thought that if you know how to use these advanced features, then you might know how to set them up. I do know enough to set them up and I still found the lack of information problematic as I cannot tell if I have set THIS particular device up accordingly. Of course these features are not required for a basic setup so I cannot ding them too hard for the lack of documentation

5-0 out of 5 stars I'd Give It A 10 If Possible
... Right outta the box it I was up and running in less than five minutes after having set up my network and cable modem. I have a desktop and laptop hooked to the router...

The router though lets me transfer data between the two networked computers at blazing speeds. 700 megs in about 5 minutes. This is mainly due to a 300 P2 laptop hooked to a Belkin network card in a PCMCIA slot which is not as fast as my PCI based desktop NIC. The laptop's HD has sub-standard read and write speeds. Setup with the router was easy and considering I knew nothing about networking beforehand it was a plus.

All in all this router is in the economy price range and it works well providing your ISP is up to speed. I've never been disconnected from the cable except during Hurricane Lili...and that was for about 12 hours because of power lines down.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gets the job done
I had been using software to share my Net connection, but found this router locally on a good sale and decided to pick it up. I already had a home network in place, so it took me less than 15 minutes to install the router and get everything to work. The manual covers the basic installation and setup of the router, but some of the more advanced features ("Virtual Server Settings" and "Special Application Settings") are not explained at all. I suppose that if you knew what they were, you'd already know how to use them. Belkin's Web site does not have any more detailed explanation of these features. Fortunately, these aren't necessary for the main use of this product - to share your Internet connection. Online games have worked fine without any special setups, such as turning off the firewall or putting my PC outside the firewall (the "DMZ"), and I haven't had a problem getting disconnected from my DSL line so far. The only weirdness I've run in to is that Netscape won't connect to the router (to do the setup and change router options) at all; I have to use Internet Explorer (I have to hit "reload" a few times before I'll get the login screen mentioned in the manual) or Opera. So in short, it does what it is supposed to do, though it would be nice if the documentation discussed the advanced features so that I can tell if I need them or not.

1-0 out of 5 stars Belkin's customer service leaves much to be desired.
My Belkin 4 Cable/DSL 4 Port Router never was a trouble-free device. It needed frequent resets and then seemed to cause one of our computers to start only in safe mode. Further investigation of the system revealed an over-heating power adapter. Unplugging the adapter fixed the non-starting computer and all three worked just fine when individually plugged into the cable modem. On December 6th, I wrote an email to Belkin because I wasn't able to find an identical adapter locally. Belkin replied they would email me again once my RMA was approved, but told me not to respond to their notice. After waiting what seemed to be an unreasonable time for the RMA, or further communication from Belkin, I wrote again, because only one computer was on line via the Cable modem. By December 26th, I had written three or four times with no response from Belkin.
When a relative came to visit with yet another computer, I relented and bought a Linksys router. The Belkin router remains inoperable when all that it needed was an adapter replacement or some other indication Belkin was aware of the problem with their product.

1-0 out of 5 stars I wouldn't recommend it
I wouldn't recommend this product. I have it for about 3 yrs, works as a simple DSL router in 2-3 computers home network. It froze on me on numerous occasion for no apparent reasons andhave to present the reset button on the router in order for it to work again. In 3 yrs, it broke twice. The first time was about 6 months in the ownship. Belkin replace it with a new one and postal cost out of my own pocket. The 2nd time was last week (warrany expired), the same old problem. It just quite working. I won't be replacing my router with the same unit for sure. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect but decent
Overall this is a pretty good natural keyboard and the additional USB ports for other peripherals makes it a good bargain. I've used it so far with a Microsoft Optical (wired) Mouse but exceeded the USB hub's power capacity when I tried using a smartcard reader (Viking Intelliflash 6-in-1).

Pros:

* The keys aren't as clacky (noisy on the keystrokes) as other keyboards I've used, although they couldn't be called "quiet" either.

* One nice touch is the addition of markings on those keys which become shortcut keys when used in conjunction with the CTRL key. The reference text indicates which letters can be used for Cut (Ctrl-X), Copy (Ctrl-C), Paste (Ctrl-V) and other shortcuts (Select All, Save, Find, Bold, Underline, Italics, Redo, Open, Print, New).

Cons:

* The unit as a whole feels big, almost TOO big. This is probably due to a) the wrist rest being completely integrated into the keyboard rather than being an flexible or hinged attachment and b) the extra girth on the underside to accomodate the USB ports. If you're looking for a keyboard with a lean profile this probably isn't your best choice.

* The USB ports in the back aren't well seated into their sockets so they flex a bit *too* much when adding or removing a USB peripheral. That leads me to believe those ports may wear out rather quickly if peripherals are attached and detached on a regular basis.

* There are no adjustable feet to raise or lower the angle of the unit, so you're pretty much stuck with the slant that came built into the keyboard.

All in all, though, it works exactly as advertised and so far I've had no problems with its quality or functionality.

3-0 out of 5 stars Better, but not ideal
This keyboard is the best compromise that I've found, but it's not perfect.

Pros: ALL keys are in the correct position (I had a Datadesk Smartboard, and the '=/+' key is on the left hand on that unit). Even the Insert/Delete/etc. keys are in the correct position.

Cons: The spacebar is a little "clacky" as another reviewer said. The split could be angled a little more -- it's almost like they took a keyboard and pulled it apart in the middle. My unit is wobbly, so I put a penny under one of the feet.

Overall it's a good value, but Belkin needs to do a little more work on the design. ... Read more

I wanted to buy a RJ45 network cable crimper so that I could make my own cables (to network my house) but I didn't want to spend $30+ for most of the crimpers out there. I recently upgraded to a 3G iPod. When I saw this, I thought it would be the perfect solution for those people who actually USE their iPod, not bury it in a case. If you're worried about scratches all the time, I doubt you are enjoying the music much. This would allow for easy access and quick connection connections. It would also double as a quick and easy car holder.

I received the holster and slid the iPod in. Perfect fit to my slim 3G. Excellent so far. Nice fit and quality, great grip. Then I clipped the holder on the clip. A little loose on the fit I thought. Then I squeezed the clip. It shattered. No, it wasn't cold. Room temp. The sides just cracked and the clip broke into 4 pieces. First squeeze. Upon close examination, it is made from the ultra brittle plastic you see on the cheap import cell phone cases. The ones in Wal-Mart for pennies on the dollar?

Hard to believe Belkin would make such a nice holster and then supply the cheapest clip they could find. A total failure. By the way, I dug out an old Nokia clip I had that had been in use for 2+ years every day until I retired the phone. The clip is very loose with this Belkin as the knob on the case is smaller than that on most cell phone case.

Big drag. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I like it.
Granted, the 3 buttons are a bit overkill for my iBook - two would be enough - but it's a very nice mouse, after all. Very basic, though - if you're looking for fancy scroll wheels or 8-button mice (now _that's_ overkill), then look elsewhere. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Good thing it's only 30 bucks!
The thing that bothers me about this keyboard is that Belkin felt the need to move some of the keys.

Of course they are the ones you use most: the zero key on the 10-key pad is half the size of any regular keyboard, the enter key is moved over so that you hit the "\" all the time, and the "Delete" and "End" keys got moved too.

All in all, if you're a major computer user at work or at home, I would chose one that is more mainstream and user friendly.I don't think I'll get used to using the zero key by scrunching up my thumb every day.

Who would've thunk that you'd have to look at the key layout before you buy?I definitely didn't, but I will know next time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Belkin Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle PS2 (F8E815-BNDL)
The listing and the picture is correct for the Belkin Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Bundle PS2(F8E815-BNDL).

The keyboard has 8 one touch Internet and Multimedia keys located at the top. 1.Refresh 2.Favorites List 3.Search 4.E-mail 5.Play/Pause 6.Volume up 7.Volume Down 8.Mute

System requirements:
1. PC 486 or higher.
2. 2 available PS/2 ports on your computer.
3. Windows 98, 2000, ME, or XP.
4. CD-ROM driver.

Package Includes: (F8E815-BNDL)
1. Wireless Keyboard
2. Wireless PS/2 Mouse
3. PS/2 Receiver (receives signals from mouse & kybd)
4. User Manual
5. CD software driver.

The componets collectively, with the retail box, weigh about 4 pounds. ergo a 5 pound ship wgt is about right.
I use the Belkin F8E815-BNDL myself. There are 3 features of this unit which I think stand out.

1. The wide area at the base of the keyboard for wrist support. Very comfortable with the keyboard angle.

2. Wireless connection. I can put my glasses on, lean back in the chair with the keyboard on my lap. I no longer have to be "on top of the monitor." And, I put the keyboard up on a shelf when I'm not online to clear up desk space.

3. The 8 Internet/Multimedia Keys do make it convienent to open additional internet windows, check the mail, and control the volume after there are already several windows open on the desktop.

I recommend this keyboard and mouse.
