2-0 out of 5 stars Not Good Key Action
First, the good:
* all the keys are full-sized - none of those pipsqueak arrow keys
* the function keys have not been remapped to different default actions (gimme back my function keys, Microsoft!)
* almost all keys are in the places they should be

The not-so-good:
There are Wake, Sleep, and Power keys in the space normally occupied by Scroll Lock and Co., which have been moved down into where one expects to find Insert, Home, and Page Up. Basically everything above the arrow keys has been moved down one row, which causes me to frequenly hit the wrong key.

The worst thing about it, though, is that the keys are difficult to depress. They take a little extra force than that to which I am accustomed, which puts extra strain on my wrists. This defeats the purpose of buying an ergonomic keyboard. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Used Car Type Sales
I purchased the item then noticed it did not say optical mouse. A ball mouse anyone will tell you is obsolete. So I tried to contact the seller by email and it came back to me.

I contacted Yahoo and apparently that is what they are a bunch of. The description was misleading. The product is well worn.

I do not like dealing with people or companies that are deceptive. I would not by anything else under such circumstances.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dig it!
I bought this mouse to replace the Apple-branded optical mouse that came with my iMac. While the package says that the mouse is PC only (and the included PC-only drivers are on a floppy disk! How quaint!), this mouse works with plug-and-play perfection on my iMac with Mac OS X, including the right-click (which performs a control-click) and the scroll wheel. All of the buttons work great in Quake III too. I love the mouse's smaller size (I'm one of the few people who prefer Apple's little hockey-puck mice over the new bulky optical ones), and it tracks dandily too on a standard mouse pad. It's a great value, too. My only complaint is that after a few days of use, the mouse began to quietly squeak (heh) when I move it to the right, but it could prob'ly be fixed with a drop of oil if I cared enough to fix it (which I don't).

3-0 out of 5 stars Compact but not so great
I bought this mouse to use with my laptop computer. I carry it around a lot and it takes up a little less space than a regular sized mouse. But the small size makes my hand cramp after using it for a while. Also the scroll wheel is loud and jerky and it comes with a USB connection and a bulky converter if you want to use a PS/2 port. Overall, I would go with a different mouse unless small size is the most important thing to you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good USB Keyboard
I own this keyboard, and I only have nice things to say about it. The keys have just the right firmness with that click that veteran computer users will appreciate. I really hate the soft feel that some keyboards (Dell, Compaq/HP) provede. This is keyboard feels like a vintage IBM in the best way. Also all the keys are the right size and in the right place, that means full size backspace key and the \ is right where God and IBM intended to put it. And another thing, this keyboard is USB, so it will work with your PS2 as well, so you can save money by not buying a dedicated PS2 keyboard.

i do not own this keyboard, but all 98' keyboards are compatible with newer models,
thank you ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Works with Linux...simple fix
I'd been using one of these for two years on a laptop with Win2K, and was perfectly happy with it; over Christmas I installed Red Hat 9, which did not recognize it. Poking with google, I found that all I had to do was to add four lines to the file /etc/pcmcia/config.opts, namely an empty line followed by

card "Belkin-5020"
version "Belkin", "F5D5020-PCMCIA-Network-Card"
bind "pcnet_cs"

(The second and third lines should be indented by two spaces each.) It now seems as trouble-free on Linux as on Win2K.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not very friendly to Linux
Although this card works very well with Windows products, getting it to work with Linux is not for the beginning or even intermediate user. It is a complicated and tricky process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product from belkin.
Bought this for my laptop and it worked perfect. with no problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good, user friendly documentation
I bought this card to network my laptop, running Win 2000, with my old desktop, running Win 95.
Of course, with plug and play, installing the cards is just a matter of plugging them in and letting the installation wizard guide you through a few clicks, but as always with Networks, the two computers, running two different operating systems, have to be configured before they can talk to one another. And while the documentation of the PCI card was totally useless in that regard, I found the documentation of the Belkin F5D5020 very well designed, informative and most useful. A good read through it later, my two computers were sharing files and printers, and I was happy I'd bought the right product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars not a problem
Saw the previous comments so I had the Realtek drivers to hand but they weren't required as I didn't have a single problem installing it on my older Win98se machine. And a bonus - it seems to transfer files faster than the previous 10/100 card that I'd been borrowing from a friend (and thought it was time I returned it!) - a sound purchase at 9 GB pounds, and that was from a High Street retailer!

2-0 out of 5 stars Win98 drivers it comes with are no good
If not for the comment left by Keith Peterson from Bridgeport, CT USA I would not have been able to get this working. I spent hours frustrated because the Win98 drivers that came in the box would not install. There online chat tech support left me waiting for upwards of 45 minutes before I gave up on them. I had to install the Realtek drivers to get it to work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great card, little trouble setting up
I installed the card on an older Gateway machine with Win98 installed. The card was recognized in the Device Manager but not seen in the Network area. After some surfing I discovered the chipset it uses, Realtek 8139A, downloaded that driver and after installing, everything was recognized and now my network is humming along with no problems. I would have given the card 5 stars if it wasn't for the small driver issue.

3-0 out of 5 stars It works great in my Windows XP computer.
A good cheap way to set up a network, if it is just to share an internet connection, to simply connect two computers.
<
The card comes with a cable that the instruction manual call a WOL, it says to plug it up to a WOL port on the motherboard behind a PCI slot? It works fine if you don't, I don't know what a WOL Port is, I have opeaned many computers ane never seen a port as described by this manual

1-0 out of 5 stars Warranty Warning!!
Belkin warranty [is not good]! They will only honor a warranty IF you purchased the product from one of their authorized resellers. Purchases from what Belkin terms as 3ed party resellers, are not eligible for their warranty. I purchased their product, new in the factory box, but it was from a source that was not on their list. I actually bought 2 cards but one was DOA. After a couple of emails back and forth with Belkin, my only recourse was to chalk it up as a lesson learned and I will never buy a Belkin product again because I can never be sure if the seller is on their current list of authorized resellers!!!!!!! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY!
I've never been so disappointed by a product. This unit has more bugs than the amazon (the rainforest, not this site). After 5 seconds it resets the signal from the keyboard input. So, say you're playing a game or scanning through a video, every 5 seconds you have to re-press the key. It also gets confused when switching back and forth between Mac and PC, making the all-important function key, alt key and control key unresponive or completely dead on the Mac. Supposedly you can update the bios to fix this (using a proprietary cable that you have to plug into the antiquated parallel port), but when i attempted it, it killed the switch completely. Belkin tech support's answer to the death of my $90 investment was "replace the unit". I know there aren't a whole lot of other options, but ANYTHING is better than this.

2-0 out of 5 stars Mac compatability availble, only if you have a PC
Just bought one of these so I could use 2 Macs at my desk and control them from one keyboard/mouse. One of the reasons I bought this prudoct is because the box said it's Mac compatible, it's not a complete lie, but your in for some work if you're trying to use it with 2 Macs. I bought this on a friday and came in on the weekend to install it, all that fun work of crawling around under the desk connecting a bunch of cables etc.
It's now Tues. (I wasn't in the office on Mon.) and everything was acting weird. As I was typing I would suddenly be stuck in Caps Lock mode when I hadn't hit the Caps Lock Key. Numbers would appear as I typed and reapeat across the screen and I hadn't typed any numbers either. And volume and eject keys did not work at all. After some experimentation I found that the right shift key was acting like a Caps Lock Key and the arrow keys were producing numbers when I used them, sometimes repeating numbers until I diconnected the keyboard (disconnecting the keyboard produces a nasty beeping noise from the KVM box that my boss can hear across the office with his door shut.)
Off to the website, the FAQ has one question, it's not mine. In all fairness the firmware update I need is on the website but it's only AFTER I call tech support and ask to talk to a supervisor that I realize it's what I need. The description of the software update is so poorly worded that it is impossible to determine that it is the solution to my problem. When I do call Tech support (one hour wait, not an 800#, longdistance call) I am told that this doesn't support the Mac special function keys (volume, eject.) I bought my Mac in 2001 and I remember seeing these keys on macs sometime in 2000. As near as I can tell this product was released in 2002. When I talked to a supervisor at Belkin they were trying to claim it was after mac changed there keyboard layouts that they started getting these complaints. It's been 3 years with this keyboard, thats a really lame excuse when your box says you're mac compatable and the copyright dates on the box and literature say 2002.
In order for this product to work with a mac keyboard I have to connect the keyboard to one of the other USB ports. But as I mentioned earlier, not having a keyboard connected to the keyboard port of the KVM produces an earsplitting beeping noise. To get rid of this noise you can either connect another keyboard to the keyboard port completly negating the reason for buying this in the first place. Or I can upgrade the firmware so the stupid thing doesn't beep when there is nothing connected to the keybord port. You can ONLY preform the firmware update that will make it work correctly on a mac by disconnecting the KVM and connecting it to a PC. Let me repeat that, you need to have a PC to preform an upgrade so it will KINDA work on a Mac. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Previous review is bogus
The guy who said "Not comaptible with dynamic IP address modems" is wrong. I spoke with a tech who told me that it will work fine as long as you disable the DHCP on it's setup page.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice, easy wireless networking
I bought this and set it up yesterday. It was a total breeze--just plugged it into my router, put the PC card in my laptop, installed the drivers on the laptop, and everything worked. Very nice. Encryption works fine, too. I would recommend this to anyone who has a wired network and wants to add wireless access to it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A loud access point!
I am a bit of a newbie to the world of wireless networking, and this is my first wireless access point.

One thing that I think needs to be mentioned is that this access point makes an audible, very rapid clicking noise. I would guess this would completely insignificant to most users, but my current project involves building a silent, fanless PC, and this access point is curiously... loud. Maybe they're all that way, I don't know.

Another reviewer mentioned that this access point needs to be configured with Windows. This is partly true. If you have a UNIX-based computer (including, I imagine, Mac OS X), there is an open source, free, console-based access point configuration utility availabe - do some searching on google. It's certainly harder to use than Belkin's Windows software, but it does work with this Belkin AP.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy for administration...
Good AP, very easy for administration and working fine with all 802.11b cards and hubs (encryption with key or password - 64 or 128 bit). But note, that this AP is only for a small office - there is no possibility to connect to external antena, signal is low powered (110mW), so the distance is very limited.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not comaptible with dynamic IP address modems
I picked this up a couple of hours ago thinking that I could just plug it into my hub and be up and running like I am with my Linksys WAP11. Not so. I called Belkin's tech support who quickly informed me that this unit is not compatible with my cable modem because it dishes out a dynamic IP address. So, on the suggestion of the tech guy, I went back to the store to get Belkin's wireless cable/dsl router and am anxiously awaiting 5pm so that I can go home and try it out. ... Read more
