5-0 out of 5 stars Plug and Play
I just bought my iPod for the windows and needed to upgrade my PC to USB 2.0. I went looking around for a USB 2.0/Firewire card and noticed that the ones that were listed on amazon have terrible reviews. Many of the issues were with configuration and many were just terrible products. I really needed to get the card quick because my iPod was just sitting there doing nothing, so I decided to thrown caution to the wind and try it out. I blocked out severals hours of my day thinking that it would be a nasty process. However, I plugged it in and it just worked! No configuration issues or anything. I'm writting this review as I'm downloading my music to my iPod. Still don't know about long term issues with it but I'm happy with the configuration! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great networking alternative, works with XP and 2003
I required a second network card to setup a multihomed server using Windows 2003. Since I was out of PCI slots on my server this adapter was a definitive blessing; it is also an excellent alternative for laptop users and for people who don't feel comfortable opening their computer cases. The adapter's cable length is about a foot 1/2 long, which I think is adequate for most people; it also has a power LED which also serves as a network status indicator.

I also tested the adapter with Windows XP and did not require the CD to set it up (Windows 2003 did require the CD).

Note:
If you install this adapter with your system powered on, you will get an error message indicating a problem starting the device, this is normal and will go out after restarting.

So far, performance has been consistent and it has been 100% stable.

I hope that my review helps in evaluating this device.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to install for any OS
1) You run the setup program in the CD
2) Plug in your USB ethernet adapter into the computer
3) Plug your ethernet cable to the other end

It was so easy to get up and running. Took less than five minutes! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars NO PLUGS
amazons review says it has connecters but it dosnt!!!

Connecting two ethernet wires is a pain. The wire itself contains 8 small color coded wires inside that must be connected indivudaly to the corresponding color on the other wire. These wires can't be soddered because the signal requires metal to metal contact, it won't work with lead sodder. Steady hands and loads of patience are required

1-0 out of 5 stars that a lot of money for bulk cable
factor in the $75 you'll need to spend for tools to crimp on your connectors (not included) and this is a very bad buy. Hey Amazon, you need to make clear that this is BULK CABLE and not a finished product!

1-0 out of 5 stars item not as described
i will be returning this to circuit city, the description states this has gold plated connectors, well there are NO connectos here! this is nothing more than a bulk run of cat 5 cable. STUPID AMAZON! thanks for the waste of time! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A $9.99 4 port-router what else you ask for?
I spent $9.99 at MicroCenter in Chicago. Good product, great price and easy to install.
I've checked the previous previews about this products and it seems like a lot people are not satisfied with it's functions. I just use it as a very basic router. No other fancy functions I need. Only turn on the web-base alternative to do some firewall settings. So far it works fine and it's a no-brainer installation process.
For a $9.99 product, I highly recommend and give it 5 stars. Unless you want to more with it like those who left negative reviews, you probably have to have bigger wallet.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Value, Overall a Good Router as well
Although some people may say that setting up this router on Windows XP is difficult, it is actually easier to set up than one thinks. People say that setting up the internet is easy, but then setting up communication between users is difficult. however, all you have to do is edit a few settings in the Local Area Network. First, turn off the Windows firewall. Then, go to Network Connections> Local Area Connection> Properties> Advanced> WINS, and under NetBIOS setting, select" Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP. This should clear a path for the network to share between computers. Overall, this router is a good deal, and I have had no problems with the internet connection.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable
I've had this router in its previous incarnation for about 18 months. I've finally gotten fed up and I'm replacing it. It constantly needs to be rebooted and it's a total pain. I echo all of the other negative reviews here. Next time I'm buying Linksys.

5-0 out of 5 stars good tool
After so many months of use, I could say this router is right on the money. I had to restart it maybe once a month or less, though the root cause might have been the DSL modem. It's been working well in a mixed environment--different OSes, card adapters, etc.. For those of you who have PPPoE networks, this router works indeed very well (INSTALL INCLUDED). Get as fast as you can to the web interface and drive things from there--security, firmware updates, monitoring, etc. And now, a word of caution: do not trust 100% the built-in firewall. There have indeed been 5 or 6 attacks, over 9 months of use, detected by the software firewall I kept. So, to address this issue, keep all firewalls running and up to date. As for the price, people around speak of all kinds of coupons/rebates. Unless you have the option to wait, get it right away and see the difference!

2-0 out of 5 stars Unusable Piece of Frozen Turd
The price tag (ten dollars after mail in rebate) was what attracted me to replace my aging, failing 1-port router, but in the end it hardly made a difference.

Good news first, the router is nice and sleek looking, albeit slightly large for what it is. It comes packaged neatly and comes with an optional stand so you can place the router on its side. Set-up was a breeze, in my case literally plug-and-play. My cable internet uses DHCP to assign settings, which is default on the router, so I was sharing my internet connection over my home network in less than a few minutes.

The router seems to have plenty of options and settings for a basic system: web-based admin access, a simple firewall, port router/filter, amongst other things. For accessing the internet and sharing files and printers it was more than sufficient.

However, I seem to have the same problem a few other reviewers have: the router inexplicably locks up, in my case 3-10 times a week, and requires a power cycle (unplug it, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, wait a minute for it to boot) to get anything on the network working again. Belkin offers no support, and hasn't released a new firmware at all (still on version 1.00, I don't know why there's even an "update firmware" button on the admin control panel).

There are times I'll turn on my computer and try to access the internet and realize the router locked up. There are also times I'm right in the middle of browsing and then the router will lock up. After eight months of putting up with this, the hunk of junk is going out the window. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great egronomic keyboard -- it eliminated my wrist pain!
I was looking an ergonomic keyboard because of ongoing wrist pain. I wanted a black keyboard that would match my mouse, monitor, and ThinkPad laptop. The only one I found that met both requirements was the Black Ergoboard by Belkin. I was surprised by the reasonable price and pleased with the "proper" key layout (unlike some other ergonomic keyboards). Although the keyboard looks a bit strange in the Amazon picture, it looks much more conventional when sitting on a desk in front of a monitor.

I was a bit surprised by the fact that it tilts by raising the edge of the keyboard closest to me because every keyboard I'd seen tilted by raising the side closest to the monitor. I gave the tilt feature a try anyway and was very pleased. As it turns out, the reverse tilt places much less strain on your wrists, especially in the carpel tunnel area, because your wrists are not bent at all when typing. The wrist supports are very solid and the keyboard is well constructed overall.

After using this keyboard everyday at work for about 3 weeks, the pain along the outside edge of right wrist completely disappeared! I've now been using this keyboard for over a year with no pain at all. If you require a USB connection, buy this keyboard use a PS2 to USB adapter instead of looking for a different keyboard. This is an outstanding product!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Buy
This keyboard has everything a person could want, with a good feel, the ergo design and a good price, if you need a new keyboard you should get this. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Sleek no more
i just put my new ipod in this thing. my once sleek , cool looking mp3 player is now this big fat chunky thing in my pocket. i don't think belkin quite got the idea here. it attaches to the ipod with a plastic suction cup. that's laughable. it got two stars cause instead of one cause it does protect the ipod. i sure wish someone would make one that maintains the "sleek" though.

4-0 out of 5 stars pretty good
When i first got my ipod, i didnt think i would really need a case until I saw how fragile it was. so i came on amazon and bought this case. it is good. i would give it 5 starts if you could use the ipod buttons while its in the case, but tahts not a real problem for me ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Unreliable garbage
The manual tells you to wait one full minute after switching and not to move the mouse or press its button while switching. It takes somewhere between 5 seconds and never to start responding to your mouse or keyboard after switching. But because you don't know how long it's going to take to respond, you have to sit and wait, hoping that in a minute or so, it might work.

It switches on its own, and doesn't like to switch when you ask it to. This is a deadly combination; it might randomly jump to the other computer and leave you stranded while it decides to hang out and ignore your request to go back to what you were doing. However, when it does go back... you have to wait for the keyboard and mouse to get picked up again. So when it randomly switches, you're looking at a couple of minutes of waiting and hoping. Literally.

I've experienced these problems with two desktops attached to the switch, and with a laptop and a desktop.

If your company frowns on loud bursts of profuse, ear-searing profanity, don't use this product... it'll get you fired. Only purchase this if you've daydreamed about going postal but can't seem to find that final straw to make you snap.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Product
Not at all reliable - switches on it's own, problems with the button. Very frustrating. At this price it should work much better.
Do yourself a favor - keep looking...

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
Application:single user with two Dell Pentium-4 tower computers and a brand new Belkin F1DK102U.The switch does not work very well and must be pressed several times in different places, at different angles, and with varying amounts of finesse, to get it to switch computers.

After a successful switch, the new computer appears on the monitor right away but the keyboard and mouse do not kick in for approximately five seconds; this took me a couple of days to get used to.(Hint: turn "num lock" on for both computers. When the keyboard's "num lock" light comes on, the keyboard & mouse are ready for input.)Then it stopped working altogether!Of the ten we bought, this one and another one (two total) failed within days.

This left me longing for the good old mechanical A-B switches we had way back in the 1900's!

4-0 out of 5 stars Keyboard and Mouse occasionally freeze
I am using this to share an Apple USB keyboard and a Microsoft Wheel Optical USB mouse between a PC and a Mac. Occassionally while I am working about once every four hours the keyboard and mouse become unresponsive and the mouse laser and Caps Lock key flash, kind of like the USB KVM is rebooting or something. After that freeze everything is fine and I have another four hour window to work again. I did disable all power saving on both machines like Belkin said on their support site but I still get this annoyance. Otherwise this is a solid USB KVM. I few more annoyances:

1. If you are listening to music on one side and switch to the other side, your music goes dead because there is no audio passthrough to your speakers when you switch.

2. Why did they put the cables to the computers and from the keyboard and mouse on opposite sides of the KVM? This makes it harder to find a place to put it on your desk.

3. No built in hotkey switch like Switchview KVMs. On basically every Switchview, I think they are called Avocent now, you can hit either printscreen or ctrl twice and then a or b or 1 or 2 and be switched between machines. The Belkin does not do this.

If I can find another USB KVM that is around $50 like this one you might seem my Belkin KVM up for sale.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worksperfectly w/o software.
I've heard complaints about the software that comes with this product, but what I don't understand is why anybody installs it!The product works perfectly, right out of the box, without installing any software.I have it hooked up to my Dell desktop PC, my Apple iBook laptop, a microsoft 2-button mouse w/scroll wheel, an Apple USB keyboard, and a Dell 15" LCD.It works flawlessly.

The installation was a bit challenging, because the PC didn't recognize the mouse at first, so I had to unplug the mouse from the KVM, plug the mouse directly into the PC, restart the computer, and let Windows recognize the KVM while I had mouse control in order to click the right buttons.Once that was done, I plugged the mouse back into the KVM, and it works perfectly.

My only complaint is that the KVM cables come out of one side, and the USB/monitor cables that go to the PC/Mac come out the other side. This makes it very difficult to find a good place for it on your desk. It'd be better if ALL the cables came out of one side. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good on OS X
Although there's no documentation about OS X, it's simple to set this thing up (in 10.3.3): just open the Keyboard & Mouse preferences, choose Bluetooth, and click "Set up new device..." and push the connect button on the bottom of the mouse.

And while there's no OS X support for the third (thumb) button, you're still a right-click and a scroll wheel ahead of Apple's own Bluetooth mouse offering... for less money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor Macintosh OSX Compatibility
Zero documentation for installation and setup on Mac -- I had to download a PDF from their website and ultimately email Belkin Tech Support for help.

Once I got the mouse basically working, I asked them how to configure the various buttons. Out of the box, the side button does nothing. Belkin told me "We don't have any special software to program the buttons but you may be able to find a third-party application"!! Clearly their Mac OSX support is an afterthought. My advice: Wait and buy one that really IS compatible. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars stay away from Belkin
They work for a month and poop out. go with another brand

4-0 out of 5 stars Works well with USB 1.1 and 2.0
This hub has worked very well with my USB 1.1 ports. I recently tried it on my USB 2.0 PCI card. Initially, Windows XP didn't want to recognize the hub. A few switched ports and reboots later, problem solved. It is now running on USB 2.0 just fine, as advertised. In retrospect, my decision to pay a little more for a higher-quality product was a good one.

Of course, since no product is perfect, here are a few negative aspects:

1) All the USB ports are in the back of the product; it would be more convenient to have them in front.

2) The ports are quite close together. If you're using normal USB cables, you shouldn't have a problem, but some users with wider devices such as a flash card reader or a USB flash drive may have to unplug a cable or two to get the room they need to plug their devices in.

3) The AC adapter is HUGE; make sure you have plenty of room on your wall outlet or power strip to plug that monster in.

2-0 out of 5 stars how many of these die
Great looking unit, but didn't live very long. I've had some Belking USB1.1 hubs that did the same. Fine for a while then just upped and stopped working. One even sparked whenever you plugged its power supply in!

2-0 out of 5 stars Death of a hub
Plugged it in, it worked for a week and then nothing. Electronic CPR doens't appear to be helping.
