Way too expensive!
I'll keep this simple. I was impressed with the quality of the sound that this unit puts out (including the sound from the two IR full-size headphones). It's versatility/portability is terrific. I was surprised and very disappointed that the quality of the image on the screen was not very good. The image washes out whenever the viewer isn't sitting within a narrow area in front of the screen---above, below, or to the sides. This is the poorest quality LCD image that I have come across. Paying anything over $400 for this unit is absolute lunacy! And since you won't find it for less than $500, you're better off going to another brand---better quality---for about the same money.

Excellent choice
Like the first reviewer, I bought this because I wanted to use it more places than just in a single vehicle. We can use it in my car, my wife's car, the VW camper, or inside. The permanently roof mounted vehicle units cost more and lack this versatility.

The first one I got had a bad pixel (always bright) so I exchanged it and the second one was fine. The sound is excellent, either with the speakers or the nice infrared headsets that come with it. I would like to find a couple more of those.

I also bought a Beamit 400FM device, which plugs into one of the headphone jacks and sends the sound to the vehicle stereo via FM -- just tune to the right FM channel. It works great, but I did have to discover that I needed the WOW off (a feature in the Audiovox) and the volume low. Then I just turned up the car stereo to the desired volume level. Now, when driving, I can at least listen to the movie.

I like this item, and the only negative I would mention is the speakers not working when detatched.

Audiovox DVD Player D1210 User Review
I just bought this DVD player. Rather than installing a video system in our new van, we bought this so that we could not only keep the kids occupied on trips, but have something to take into the hotels to watch. I was unable to find any reviews on this, and when you are spending this much money, it would be nice to find the pluses and minuses. So here are mine:

Pluses: This is the largest screen for mobile DVD that I could find. The picture is clear, the sound is fantastic, but even more impressive to me is the infrared headsets that comes with this unit. The headsets make it sound like you are in a movie theatre, and you don't have to have wires strung through the vehicle. The unit also has a TV so that if you buy an antennae (not included), you can use it while you travel. Otherwise, you can easily hook it up to cable in your house. The carrying bag that comes with the unit is very nice and holds everything that you need for using the player. You can plug the unit into the wall for operation or into your cigerette lighter, depending where you are using it, and the unit comes complete with the attachements to hang it on the seats or you can also sit it up on the bed on on a counter for watching at home.

Minuses: So far, the major disappointment with this product is the fact that the first time that we played a DVD, we noticed that there are a few dead pixels in the screen. Although I figured that I could take it back, my concern is that I may end up on a wild goose chase trying to find one that is good. It would seem that for $700, the screen that they put into this unit would not be having dead pixels. The speakers that attach to the side of the screen must be attached in order for them to work - it would be nice if they could either be attached, or be separate. And finally, whenever we want to watch it in the hotel, it is kind of a pain that you have to take it out of its protective casing in order to open the bracket that supports it for standing up. Works with the PNP3
Here is the new and updated version of the SIR-BB2!Since they do not make the BB2 anymore, this is what you want if you have the PNP3 as it'll allow you to take the boombox anywhere!Note, the PNP2 and other Sirius receivers will not work with this, only the PNP3.

Improvements include a better and lounder volume so that if you're outside you'll hear the program much better!The volume is adjusted by either pushing a down or up button.Also it's not as "thick" as the BB2.

Plug in some D Cell batteries and you can go portable with it!

It includes an adapter to plug in, and 20 wire and antenna for reception.Note many with Sirius have to put the antenna just outside their window facing the appropriate direction (read directions).And everyone can get reception, it's just a matter of proper antenna placement.

You may want to look into getting the 50 foot Sirius antenna extension cable (see above for item information) to connect both antenna wire and boombox.You can connect up to 2 of them making a total of 125 feet of antenna wire.

Life Saver....
We purchased this DVD player for our children last year and it has been a life saver. We have two boys and travel a lot. We purchased a splitter and two head sets and off we go. Our DVD player has been dropped, stepped on, sat on, you name it, it's been done and it's still going strong. We love the slimline and the size of the wide screen. The clarity and color is so clear. Another plus about our Audiovox, after looking at several other name brands we found that the sound on this brand was great. Others you could hardly hear turned all the way up, even with headphones. This has become a staple in our home...if it broke I would be going to find another (Audiovox)!!! You will not regret it!!!

Set up is a breeze
I love this video player. It is compact, easy to set up and just the right size. I'm embarrassed to say it, but it's a wonderful babysitter for the car.

worthless piece of junk!
I wanted this tv so bad because of it's convenience and style that I purchased it and returned it 3 times to get a working one. Every one of them stopped functioning correctly after 8-10 days. The picture went fuzzy and only the sound could be heard. I went and upgraded to the same tv but the eddie bauer edition found at target for 50$ more and have had it over three months now with no problems. Don't waste your money on this worthless piece of junk!!!

Makes traveling with four kids a breeze
Bought mine almost 10 months ago and it's still working great. We are VERY VERY hard on things, and thus far it is holding up well. It's easy to use, and easy to take in and out of the car to use indoors and/or transfer to another vehicle.
The two headphone jacks are a great feature -- I got a couple of splitters and all four kids can use headphones at once, and I can listen to the radio instead of Scooby for the 100th time. Only down side is that the kids in the back of the van have trouble seeing -- I'm thinking about getting the extra screen to go in the back so I don't have to hear them argue about who sat in the back last time. Has been a good, sturdy product for us, and well worth the money.

Ours was unreliable
The second day we had this, a quarter of the screen went black. We returned it. If you do buy one of these, get the extended warranty because the unit only comes with a 90 day warranty. It's a shame it didn't work well because the design is very convenient.

Must have for those with little children
This has been a lifesaver for me on long car trips and short ones. It is very compact compared to the others. I also tried the RCA one but it does not fit between the front seats like this one. Look out! Not reliable!
It was fun while it lasted. Bought it last Father's day, and by this Father's day, it was already broken--won't load, freezes, won't play DVD (apparently the lens needs replacing). A local TV repair shop says it will cost more than the player itself with labor involved. Audiovox will charge a flat rate of 93.75 plus the cost of shipping it to them to fix it. So basically a year later I'm having to buy the player all over again. Pretty steep considering it is only one year old, and that I took impeccable care of the player (cleaned often and kept in padded case).

Terrific DVD Player for the money!
I bought this for a planned cross country road trip that did not happen. Now I use it often if not for movies, to listen to music.The picture is great, sharp and clear. The sound is great as well.It is lightweight and it comes with the things you need to either use it in a car or to hook it up to your tv at home. The battery holds the charge well. Things that are important to me in a portable. Do not let the price fool you. Yes it is lower than most other portables but the quality is outstanding. I would and will someday buy another.

Gift for husband
I bought this for my husband's birthday (50 - so I splurged a bit). He absolutely loved it! Our two teenage children were fascinated. My husband's co-worker wanted to see it - and then ordered one for herself. My husband loves to watch dvds that I don't really want to see so the portability of the dvd player is very useful to us. It has a great picture - extremely clear. I highly recommend this player.

Great little DVD player!
This is a great portable dvd player! I bought it for a trip, and found it never skipped or had any trouble, even when the plane went through quite a bit of turbulence! Also... I bought two dvds while on the trip, only to realize that they were in a foreign language with English subtitles. I was afraid of how the subtitles might appear on a 5.8" screen, but they were just fine - very readable!

I am so pleased with this little dvd player.. the picture quality is clear and the sound is great. I took it on a recent trip and it charged up perfectly and played just as I expected. No surprises! World Traveler
This is a great unit for the price. I've watched 2 DVD's while on a flight using battery power. The picture and sound are clear and the unit is very user friendly. I also hooked up our video camera and game counsel to it. This unit is a blast with all the options. I have not used the car adapter yet, but I'm glad it is there. I held off on giving it a 5 only because I would have liked a larger screen, and the unit is thicker than the others. It doesn't fit well in the Targus DVD case very well. I'd recomendd getting all the stuff you want to cary with it, headphones and DVD's and trying out the fit at a camera shop. I eneded up using a video camera bag and it all fits fine. If you are a frequent flyer I highly recomend Noise Canceling headsets, I'm sure Amazon has some for you to chose. Over all, a great little item.

Well worth the money!
I bought this portable DVD because of the reviews that I read on Amazon.com only. I bought one previously from Wal-Mart (Cyber-Home) and found that it got horrible reviews so I returned it, got my money back and ordered the Audiovox D1500A from amazon.com's store.

For $177.00 bucks total, the D1500A can't be beat. Great picture, great sound, not too big, not too small. Overall a great product, and since I bought it from the amazon.com store, it arrived in a very short period of time and I have no fear of replacement if that becomes necessary. I do suggest that you buy a set of good airplane headphones and an extra battery.

For the money spent, you can't go wrong with this unit.

DOA: Bad screen, and other features not as expected.
Arrived defective -- bad screen. Audio quality also poor, very tinny: the speakers are not nearly as large as they appear. Volume had to be adjusted frequently during a movie, as did brightness. Vertical viewing range was very limited, had to re-tilt the display if I sat back in my chair.

Note that with the battery pack attached, the unit is about twice the thickness of the one in the photograph. Any features beyond stop/pause/play require the remote, and the infared receiver is in an awkward location on the front of the unit. Finally, I don't know if I'd call a cigarette lighter power cord a "car kit."

Overall I wouldn't recommend this unit. It's a shame -- it looked really good in the description.

Freezes up A LOT!!!
I was initially very satisfied with this product but within the first week it began freezing up on a VERY regular basis, and often within the first ten minutes of use. In order to try again, I have to turn it off, unplug it, remove the disk, and try it again in a few minutes.

dont waste your money
I have owned 2 units. BOTH units have had the picture FREEZE up. The first unit lasted 12 months - I travel for business and used it a lot. I put up with the SCREEN FREEZE because I enjoyed having a DVD player on long plane trips. All of a sudden the DVD door broke. No warranty or extended warranty from Best Buy (DVD cost 140.00 warranty cost 90.00 - didnt see the value). Bought a second one and on the second trip the SCREEN FROZE. I returned it and got a Polaroid. So far so good but it bulky compared to the Mintek. So be careful with Mintek Products ... Read more
