5-0 out of 5 stars I was given these by my employer - what a bargain - great!
I figured that you only get [junk] for work but these turned out to be very good speakers - especially for a small office. Work fine. Easy to hook up and lasted for a few years with good performance already. If you're not looking to rock the house with your PC speakers...these are a great deal. Reccommend.

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk
For $18.99 I didn't expect audiophile quality but the master speaker was dead out of the box. The slave speaker worked for a couple of minutes and then nothing but buzz. Let the buyer beware. ... Read more

Amazon.com Review

The Jensen Convergence Series JMP-50s are a great bargain if you're looking foran inexpensive pair of speakers to hook up to a PC.

Setup of the JMP-50s is easy and doesn't require the included documentation. Simply plug the right speaker into the speaker jack or sound card on your computer--Mac or PC--and then plug the left speaker into the right speaker. The wires are permanently attached to each speaker so there is no chance of confusing where each wire connects. The power cord is also permanently attached, and because the speakers have a built-in AC-to-DC converter, the plug does not have a bulky external converter. This makes it easier to find a place to plug the JMP-50s in--no need to move things around on your power strip to make room.

The cord that connects the two speakers is just over 4 feet in length, limiting how far you can space the JMP-50s from your computer. Fortunately, the speakers have ample magnetic shielding, so if you place the JMP-50s right next to your monitor, they won't cause any screen distortion.

The sound of the Jensen JMP-50s is a bit hollow and lacking in bass, but that's not unusual for speakers that cost less than 20 bucks. However, these speakers do lack bass and treble controls, which can often be found in other speakers in the same price range.

These speakers are perfect for your computer at work or for an extra home system for the kids. If you really want full sound for music or games and are willing to spend a little more, go for a set that includes a subwoofer.

Pros:

  • Easy to set up
  • Built-in AC-to-DC converter
  • Self powered and self amplified
  • Volume control
  • Headphone jack

Cons:

  • Lack of bass and treble controls
  • Lack of subwoofer

4-0 out of 5 stars What you would expect for the price
These don't sound nearly as clean as the Altec Lansing ACS50's I used to have on the computer, let alone the 3-piece Altec set I have in the office. However, since this is just for the kids to play games, it does the job and the price is right. I don't want the kids going deaf! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars What's that I hear?
"Wow!" was the first word that popped into my mind when I tested this out with a few CD's. Not because of the sound quality, but because of what you can hear. It seems as if this thing 'enhances' the parts you don't normally hear. It's kinda odd hearing your favorite song with the background music playing in the same level with what your really supposed to hear. Sorta like a concert experience. This isn't really bad, but you don't really hear what the singer is saying when the background music is in the way. If your into a more 'concert-like' experience, then this is for you. What this really shines though is in video games. After playing Quake with this, I was blown away. All the bombs and explosions are amplified. In Unreal, you can literally hear the people screaming in the distance (if that's what you want to hear, LOL). For movies, it's a mixed bag. I love this with action movies (because it makes the gunfire and explosions all the more convincing), but it's always kinda odd hearing the background sounds while the characters are talking.

It all depends on what your into. If you love video games, or want a concert-like experinece, then this is for you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars These speakers are top of the line for their catagory
For a two satellite, one woofer system, this 70-Watt system blows competitors away. It has a Dolby Virtual Surround setting that I found skeptical at first, but it surpassed my expectations. Coming from a two-satellite 5 watts per channel computer speaker with a 20W woofer (which I thought were the best), these 15Ws really do the job well. The room is filled with rich sound and a smooth sounding 40W sub-woofer-- Definitely worth the cash. No need to ponder. These have been the top on reviews on all my searches before I set out to buy them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Speakers for the price
I have owned these speakers for almost a year and have been very pleased with them. I use them for gaming, playing audio CD's on my PC, and hook them to my TV for better sound. They provide great sound and sufficient power. The Bass is truely exceptional (PC Gamer loved the sub-woofer). I love these speakers, but I might now opt for the Creative-Cambridge PCWorks FourPointSurround , though I haven't tried them.

5-0 out of 5 stars I auditioned many multimedia speakers and these are the best
I've seen these same speakers at major retailers and superstores for $50 more. The sound quality and the full range and depth of the bass from the sub woofer fills my room. Now I'm wondering how much better they would sound if I had a better sound card. Buy these you won't be sorry. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Really good speakers
The sound quality is surprisingly good. I took this for granted and only realized this when I bought the Yamaha YST-MS201 thinking I was upgrading. The Yamahas sounded like those cheap computer speakers that come free when you buy a computer. In contrast, these Advent speakers produce sound similar to speakers on a decent home stereo system.

5-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good sound for the price
I purchased these speakers on a whim at PC Richard, without checking consumer reports or any other review services. I connected them to my office computer and was impressed by the sound quality. Co-workers had spent the equivalent on speakers that were truly inferior- (small size, battery powered, tinny reproduction). These Advents are quite powerful - I have yet to crank them past 1/2 power, and usually keep them at 1/4. This is probably due to their relatively large size, and to the curved faces that seem to angle the sound directly at the user. One speaker has small dials that control volume, bass and treble. There is also a mute button and a headphone jack. There is an input for a subwoofer if you decide to add one.

They also look very good with the standard beige desktop unit; they resemble modern sculpture. Plus, they are tough. I dropped one of them while installing-no damage. The guy who designed these put his heart into it.

Bass reproduction could be improved, but without a sub-woofer what do you expect? The Advent name badge seems flimsy. That's it. All in all, I don't understand how Advent is able to produce these speakers at this price point. They are a real pleasure-I would be happy to bring these speakers home.

2-0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for
These are okay speakers but not if you are serious about good sound, especially with headphones. Anytime the headphones were plugged in, I was listening to static and lots of it. I even tried different sets of headphones. These are not good computer speakers.

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC SOUND
these speakers have a very small footprint, only 8-1/2 incheshigh.i purchased them not knowing what kind sound was going to come out of them,i was quite surprised at the rich full bodied sound.i am very satisfied with them, although i did find some drawbacks like the knobs are very small and the DC transformer is gitantic and takes up two socket spaces on my power strip. there are some features i was surprised i had in these speakers. a jack for a secondary input and a subwoofer.my advice...dont waste your money on those high priced speaker sets, grab these as fast as you can...

4-0 out of 5 stars Advent speaker pair
These are great speakers for the price. I'd highly reccomend them to someone looking for an inexpensive pair of computer speakers. ... Read more
