5-0 out of 5 stars I'm completely satisfied!
If you are looking for a PCI graphic card with TV option, your search should stop here. This ATI AIW 64MB PCI card was a perfect solution for my Dell dimension 2400 XP home (it doesn't have AGP). First, I disabled my integrated display- installed the card- and the program/driver from the included CD (I didn't have to download from ATI), and I was watching TV on my computer in no time, and I love the GUIDE PLUS+ feature where you can click the TV program guide to select channels!! I'm sure there are plenty of powerful graphic cards out there for hardcore gamers, but this one does the job for me perfectly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately, it doesn't do the dishes too...
No, not everyone can afford a nice beefy graphics card to show off at the LAN party, and sometimes we can't even afford a computer with an AGP slot inside it. In which case, this card ought to fill up one of your PCI slots nicely.

The graphics boost is what you'd expect. But you know how these things are with computers - this card will be a proverbial goliath in less than a year. In the meantime, it should be enough to let you play graphic-intensive games with all your buddies until you've saved enough money for your next upgrade.

Having video input and output is nice. Since I can run wires to the back of TV, my computer serves as the de-facto DVD player of the house. The inputs are useful to friends with camcorders - though I personally haven't had much use for them.

But you know, it's nice to be able to watch my favorite shows on my own when the group concensus won't let me do so on the normal TV. Why pay for Tivo when you've got all of the same functionality right here? Just be sure you have ample hard drive space while you're recording (sadly, the included software won't let you record your shows straight to DivX).

Bottom line, it's not the greatest when it comes to just the graphics, but it'll certainly get the job done, and it'll do it with enough nice quirks to leave you feeling oddly satisfied with your purchase.

1-0 out of 5 stars be very careful
I have a dell 600sc (a server machine). The ATI install
program either (I tried about 4 diffrent version, on the CD
and their web site)
1) hung the machine hard (had to reset)
2) complained I wasn't the administrator (I was)
3) ran for a little bit and then terminated doing nothing

I tried it in a gateway 6400 (another server machine) and it
seems to work.

All times I tried it with windows xp -- eventually I'll use linux but I like to try out boards with the "vendor supplied"
software -- ATI may be the exeception to that rule.

On dells web site in the customer forums, I read about others who had the same problem...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great PCI card
Great card, comes with everything you need for analog tv tuner, s-video (in and out), and composite in/out.
It IS possible to use this in conjunction with an AGP card (i'm using the all in wonder VE with a Radeon 9700). Just go into your bios and set the PCI slot with your AIW VE as the primary graphics adapter (or let it autosearch). I currently switch between VGA (AIW VE) and DVI (Radeon 9700) as my primary display by toggling it in the control panel.

The one thing I did not like about this card was the software. YOU CANNOT USE THE TV PLAYER SOFTWARE PACKAGED WITH THE CARD WITH THE UPDATED CATALYST MULTIMEDIA CENTER. When you update the drivers, be careful not to install the updated multimedia center (or you can buy the updated MMC, which has an updated TV player for $10 from ATI).

It's a good card and has everything you need. It's a bit pricey, and the sound is usually mono (and fuzzy), but if you get stero sound for ur tv stations, sound is not a problem. I also plan to attempt to attach a entertainment system and display it on my monitor.

ATI support is also very slow and the website is not very helpful. http://www.lordsmurf.com was a helpful website.

-the audio problem seems to be fixable. Just make sure to plug the audio output (from the VE) to the audio input (not microphone) on the audio card.

-the software for recording that comes with VE for recording cannot record to DivX and does tend to gobble up a lot of HD space, but otherwise, the software is good. (comes with a TV guide with weekly downloadable files, recording software lets you set the quality of video/audio recorded, etc.)

-Regarding running this with an AGP video card: you tend to get blue screens when you switch if you have many programs running in the background. This could possibly be a driver issue (ATI...) and might not be an issue later

5-0 out of 5 stars No Problems
Very easy installation, very good performance. Very good buy especially if you do not have an AGP slot like myself.
But no remote in the package at amazon. ATI.com is giving free remote with the card ... I am trying to buy the remote on ebay. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars CRASHES on nVIDIA chipset motherboards
I was experiencing exactly the same problem as posted by another user. I am using AMD Athlon XP 2800+ on DFI LANPARTY nFORCE-2 ULTRA motherboard with the *nVIDIA chipset*.

ATI diagnostic program keeps pointing out that nVIDIA audio clock (built in to system board) is unstable. System freezed sporadically, especially more often when I use the ATI TV, and usually the sound will stop before the freeze.

Called ATI long-distance to Canada, and all they could tell me was pretty much to re-install driver. Didn't work, so I got transferred to TIER-2 OR LEVEL-2 techs, and they told me the EXACT SAME THING -- re-install driver! Did not solve anything.

I suspected nVIDIA chipset had something to do with it. Then I disabled AGP fastwrite from the BIOS, and all problems ceased.

AGP fastwrite is known for causing system stability problems, but I can't be sure if RADEON 9700 is contributing to the problem. I've not read anything about this issue in the manual, FAQ, or from ATI knowledgebase. When I called ATI, nobody (tier-1 and tier-2 supports) ever mentioned that it might be AGP fastwrite. I figured this out on my own, and I'm slightly disappointed that I'm not running this AGP card at its full potential.

2-0 out of 5 stars Similar Problem with A7N8X Deluxe
Hi all,

I too bought this product with the intention of using the PVR capabilities among other things, but for some reason, the nForce motherboard does not like the sound input from the TV tuner. It doesn't seem to matter what driver revision is used or installation sequence, but things just don't work between these systems. Makes you wonder whether one company or the other has a hidden agenda...

5-0 out of 5 stars Ain't Nothing Better (Unless you get the AIW 9800 Pro)
This is my third card in the ATI AIW series, and it rocks! As a 3D video card, although its not the king (anymore) its still plenty fast, its gorgeous. As a multimedia (TV, PVR, Video Capture, etc.) card, its the best single product out there. You get the best of everything, And it works.
Sorry for the guys who had problems: unless you got a dud card, I assure you its not the AIW 9700 Pro that's giving you grief. Check your setup, make sure you've installed all the lastest drivers (chipset, Motherboard, video card, etc.), and *follow* the instructions for the Catalyst driver installation. I have had no problems and have been enjoying beautiful 3D games, watching TV, PVR, etc. since installation.
Personally I would avoid mixing competitors products in the same rig (Nvidia chipset with ATI video?) but that should not cause a problem...
Unless you can get your hands on the AIW 9800 Pro, this is the one to get. If you're not interested in TV, PVR, etc., get the plain jane 9800 Pro.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not Great
I recently purchased this product and found that the graphics for game play is wonderful, but the tv functions are kind of hard to set up, I found a way to hook sound up for the tv but when playing the recorded video back, I notice there is no sound. I guess I will try a few other things to try and get sound but all in all this is an ok video card, I suggest getting the ATI 9700 pro instead if you are not wanting the tv functions.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing but trouble
While this card is undoubtedly fast for 3D games, I bought it for the integrated TV tuner and PVR capabilities.

Right to the point: My machine (Asus A7N8X Deluxe) reboots sporadically now. The driver updates from the ATI website are horrific... 9 separate downloads that you have to install in the correct order and if you reboot when prompted, you're in trouble. I have reinstalled Win2K 7 times now, and every time I install the ATI drivers and software, I get a different combination of working apps... no sound in recorded video, no sound in TV tuner, no TV tuner at all, crashes when trying to play back recorded video, etc etc.

I don't know why other companies don't offer a working, integrated PVR solution like ATI attempted to do.

Save your money. Save yourself. Do not buy this card. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ATI 9700 PRO
I AM a Serious, Serious Sammer!
Passed the ti 4600 thru my system.
Got me a Radeon treatment.
Read the numbers, check out the
web sites. Run the tests.
yea, yea, yea.
Your eyes don't lie.
I can see the way Croteam wanted me
to see the bangs, bursts, flashes,
flames and explosions.

This card gives me bang for the buck !
Can't afford to upgrade every time one
of them comes out w/ something new.
Dang good card.
Follow instructions and read the forums.
Dang good card.
Can't wait till the 9800 Pro 256 mg
card is within reach price wise.

I love competition.
Come on nVidia.
Top this.

Please!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Performance, but.....
The performance of this card is truly great! There is no better card in this price range. I have a friend who has a TI4200 and the 9500 is clearly superior. With the introduction of the 9600 pro, the price of the 9500 should drop considerably making it an even better value. I have even seen reviews on modified 9500's that will outperform the 9700 pro! Too Cool! The only problem I have with the 9500 is that sometimes I lose the video signal from the card. The computer isn't locked up, just no signal. This rarely happens, but I have to power down and reboot. Very, very annoying. All in all though, I would recommend this card to anyone. It Screams!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best damn card for your buck
This is hands down the best damn card for the money. Phenominal perfomance meeting or beating a GeForce Ti4600 card. Excelent showings agianst the GeForce FX chipsets. DX 9.0 compliant. Awesome Awesome Awesome *****

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond Incredible, Excellent.
Finnally I backed up my words and got a new video card. A very special one indeed ;-). MAN is it woopin fast that's all I gotta say. It defenitley beat out my ol' geforce 2:). And includes support for pure hw t & L, pixel shading version 1.4, vertex shading 1.4, and all kinds of other effects. Beat out my geforce 2 so bad it makes it look like a dust mite compared to a table.(well that is using a bit of sarcasim, but close to there.)Anyway, I scored at a 1024x768 res, 32-bit color, 2x aa, all other settings maxed in 3dmark2001se benchmark with directx8.1 a 8504 score. Damn good! when I turned off 2x aa it boosted pu to 9505. DAMN INCREDIBLE! I love this card. Has some rendering errors in older half-life engine used games, is a bit slower in older games such as rayman 2, but is defineteley worth it. And much more. I got about at all settings maxed in unreal gold, opengl, 160fps avg. in d3d I got about 137fps avg.(1600x1200x32, high world/skin detail, etc.). And much more. All I gotta say is this card is worth the money, espcially since it's directx9.0 fully compatible. It ain't much different from the 9700 pro, only difference is the 9700 pro has faster memory clock speed/engine clock speed by 100mhz, and a 256-bit memory interface and the 9500 pro has a 128-bit memory interface. Besides that, they are pratically the same. 100$ more for the 9700 pro certainly is a rip off. The 9500 pro isn't the fastest card you can get around with beyond beyond incredible visuals at the same time, but is an excellent card indeed. More than worth a 3-D hardcore gamer's purchase :) I recommend it :)

1-0 out of 5 stars WORST CARD EVER!
Does not run with any new games. Out of date card. BUY SOMTHING ELSE! This card is so bad it should be locked away forever!
Not worth the box it is put in. Terrible Again DO NOT BUY. i am writing this review so other people dont have the same problems i had. Spend more money on a better card

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Card!
I bought this card from compusa and the graphics look great.Back when i had my old 2mb card i couldnt play swat 3.Now i can play swat 3 and the graphics on that game looked just about 128-bit! and xpert 98 isnt a 128 bit card! Its not suspose to process those graphics!.I think its because i have 128 mb ram and 400 mhz.Faster processors mean better graphics.

4-0 out of 5 stars If only it was the All-In-Wonder...
I purchased this card about 4 years ago for my desktop system (which was top of the line at 200MHZ MMx, etx..how times have changed!) - This is probably the best 3D card out there ONLY if you happen to get the All in Wonder Pro though - with 3d capability and Video Capture you can't go wrong with the price but this card (even at the low price) is probably not going to help you in the area of video memory (only 8mb) if you plan on doing any type of extensive video editing or special effects. If you can, I would try to find the All-In-Wonder card (also 8mb) if you're willing to spend the money on it. (You're better off spending the extra 50-75 to buy a 16 or even 32 mb video card nowadays.) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What an eye full!
My Compaq 5660 came with a 4mb ATI Rage Lt Pro, what a great board, it's no Charles Atlas mind you but it truly was the little engine that could, or at least tried every single time. But with todays high software demands, the little engine had to be retired to the round house, now his 32mb big brother rules the rails of my computer. I have friends that have spent weeks working around patching problems for their Voodoo boards and it seems everytime I log onto Lucas Arts and other software companies web-sites they're offering the latest patches for Voodoo products, thank God I stayed with a brand I used and trusted. The installation was a breeze (and I'm a computer idiot), visuals are stunning and the performance... well in one word, flawless. And can you believe it, ATI is the only board I could find that offered a TV composite out, great option. Seems Voodoo may have won the marketing battle but in my book, ATI has won the performance war. Bravo ATI, keep up this kind of effort in all the hardware you develope and I'll demand it in every system I buy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Card Ok - Quirky Drivers
ATI is not known for its driver development. The card performs well...but installation was a bear...drivers frequently did not work with other devices (USB USR modem for one) I have since upgraded to the 64meg, dual processor, rage and have found that to be a bit better. Dont know if I will buy an ATI card again though

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Card, Great Price
This is a great card for the price. The Drivers are great, especially when you have the latest direct x from MS installed, as well as getting the latest from the web site (It worked fine out of the box with the drivers, but I think it is always best to have the most updated drivers for these cutting edge video cards!) The TV Out option is supreme, I have produced several videos with Adobe Premiere and exported to TV and they turned out great. Also if you ever want to play games out to TV they turn out great also. The Open GL and Direct X support have been superb. The latest games have been awesome looking with some fine resolution support. I can set the options to max settings for detail. I have njoyed this card the past 4 months. (specs I have-pent III 550mhz, AGP 4x, 20gb hd)

5-0 out of 5 stars BEST CARD FOR THE MONEY
Let's just put it this way, it saved me a $500 upgrade for a pentium III. I work off of a 300Mhz Celeron, and it performs beautifully. Will work better once I upgrade next week to Pentium II 400Mhz. CAN't WAIT!

1-0 out of 5 stars Ruined My Computer
this card ruined my computer! its not as easy as put the card in the slot and boot it back up.the instruction book doesnt tell you that you have to remove the existing cards drivers and remove the old card from the device manager before you shut it down remove the old card then install the new one.it was one gigantic disaster of a day for me and my computer.this cards tech support line is in canada and is a toll call, a $100 dollar toll call and they were absolutly no help. if your smart DONT install this card yourself, no matter how easy it looks, take it to compusa or your local computer store and let them do it. i had to send my computer back to the manufacturer for the second time because i thought i could do it myself. ...
