5-0 out of 5 stars Video and TV via your computer!
This product by ATI is a great one. We bought it in order to be able to place video on the internet.

What I did not know was that the card allows you to look at TV while using your computer. You can connect either rabbit-ears or a cable from your cable or satellite provider into the system and view everything crystal clear.

One note of caution however is that you should not try to install this product if you are not hardware literate.

I had a person who builds computers and they had a hard time in getting the images and sounds from the camcorder into the computer at the same time.

It took some time to get everything to work, but it was indeed worth the effort.

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT
This is a great product from ATI. The instructions for installing, using, and so on are outstanding, as well as the product :)

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great product
I bought the card and started to build my computer. I had some experience of upgrading a computer but this is the first time I build a computer from scratch. Every thing went on smoothly and the card worked very well. I'm using Athlon XP 1600 CPU with 256 MB of DDR SDRAM, Windows 98.

There are things ATI needs to make some improvement. The DVD player doesn't have the slow motion function; Sound quality from File Player or TV On Demand is distorted; The fast forward and backward on the File Player doesn't work well and I don't have a way to edit the recorded file. Maybe I don't have the updated driver, I couldn't find it from ATI website. If anyone has the information, please e-mail me.

Even though there is room for improvement, this is a great product and I'm glad that I bought this card.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Card
I bought this card with a little uneasy feeling from the reviews I read. However, the sale price and the functions of it were hard to ignore so I tried it anyway. After I snapped the card in and started to install driver, it surprised me with no error at all. All my games looked crisp. The usual crashes which I suspected from using the shared memory disappeared. Attaching the antena and viewing TV from my monitor made my comp suddenly look cool. Connect it to my TV set and watch VCDs with bigger screen made it look more cool. Haven't tried DVD & Video Editing function yet but I am very please about it. A very versatile card I must admit. And a very lucky man I am (no installation problem at all). FYI, I use Win98SE that may be the reason.

1-0 out of 5 stars This card is the worst - DON'T BUY!
If you enjoy paying [money]for something that does absolutely nothing, buy this card. I'm a PC technician, and I've spent at least 4 hours, nearly every day for the last year, trying to get this stupid thing to work. But it never has.

Whenever I try to use the TV feature, my system locks and I have to shut it off and restart it. So, basically the card is useless.

I've contacted ATI over 20 times, and every time I contacted them they took AT LEAST A WEEK to respond. On top of all that they usually gave me things to try that either; they had already given me, or I told them I had already tried. I've never seen worse tech support!

Pretty much all ATI's Tech support has told me, is if I had installed their software "correctly" I shouldn't be having any problems like this.

I've reformatted my hard drive over 100 times (seriously) trying various drivers and configurations, but I have never once got this dang thing to work. PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS CARD! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Card
I bought this card on a whim as one of my Goldbox offers, but I am happy that I did. The graphics are great, the remote is very cool, and the included software is great, but one note if you are using win 98 first edition...you have to install a patch in order to utilize the cable tv input feature. This drove me nuts because this information was hard to come by. I found the patch on a remote area of the ATI Technologies website...just do a search on it and you can find it. Also, if you plan on recording live tv make sure you have a pretty fast computer, otherwise what you record will be choppy. Other than that I would recommend this card to anyone looking for a good video card with better than average features.

3-0 out of 5 stars There are better options
I bought this card to start creating SVCD's (Super Video Discs - basically CD's you can play in your DVD Player) of my favorite show. I didn't have any problems getting this card to work right out of the box, but when I started watching/recording - I found a lot of strange static on the channel I wanted to record. After replacing all the cables I was sure it must be the card... as the same cable, plugged into an actuall television had none of this static. I managed to return the card for a new one, but had the same problem with the second card.

I later purchased a Leadtek Winfast 2000xp tuner card - and it has great sound and picture - but lacks the software features of the ATI. So, for anyone interested in recording and making SVCDs or VCDs of their shows, I offer the following comparison and pro/con list.

Picture quality and sound: The Leadtek was far better, showing a crisp picture, and with none of the sound problems of the ATI.

Software: ATI is the clear winner here. Leadtek has no built in channel guide (although you can use titantv.com - but it is much more time consuming than using ATI's built it guide). The ATI software allows you to create much better recording schedules, and you can modify most details of the recording. The ATI software created great SVCD compatible MPEG2s (on the non-static channels), but with that static, they were useless. Leadtek allows you to modify the recording options (like bitrate, etc) in their software - but you can only select the resolution from a drop down list (and the SVCD compativle 480x480 is not there) and making any custom settings seems to throws the audio/video out of sync by several seconds.

One thing to note, however, is that this card comes with an older version of the software. If you want the new stuff, you'll have to pay $ to get it from the ATI online store.

Pros:
-Great software

-I'm sure some people will have better luck with the whole static issue

Cons:
-Just OK graphics chip
-Have to pay for software update
-Less than perfect tuner card

End result: I started using the freeware Virtualdub to record from the leadtek card, and then convert this to compliant MPEGs. This works, but it is incredible time consuming compared to the extremely simple ATI setup. I wish anyone who buys this card more luck than I had!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Worth the Trouble
You just want to use your computer as a digital VCR right? It's unlikely you'll be doing so anytime soon with this video card. The TV feature wouldn't work until I uninstalled my NIC and USB. TV and DVD work fine now, but the capture (record) feature doesn't record any audio. Yes, yours may be ok, but here's one more thing: the software that comes with this card is version 7.5, but the current version is 8.5. Owners of the 7500 have to PAY $$$ for this upgrade, whereas owners of higher-end ATI cards get it for free. You want to do business with a company like this, be my guest.

1-0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY IT.
Ok, First of all, I have only 22 days using this device and Im sick of it.

Software:
The package comes with the 7.5 version of the Multimedia Center, if you have WindowsXP dont even try to watch DVD with the DVD player that comes with that version... Tha machine will always freeze. Also happens with the file player and eve worse with the TV Capture.

Hardware:
Graphics Card was much better than my Nvidia GForce 2 MX/200.
A lot faster, the Cable TV looks very poor but still you could watch your favorite programs, but still poor.

BIG REMOTE CONTROL ISSUE!!!!!!!
The remote receiver [is bad]!!! I dont know why but one day it just stop working and thats not all, my USB Ports doesnt work anymore. My Microsoft Optical USB Mouse is useless now. The only thing that works is my MP3 Jukebox and My Camera, thats it. I could not plug any other device in it. I tried several times to plug the USB remote freq. receiver and then I started to smell like "burned circuit".

Yeap, that was all for my excellent remote control... Right now Im trying to get the people at ATI to help and still no response.

Please do not buy this item. Try to find something else in the market... Im going back to my nvidia card.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great big bang for your buck
I spent a full day researching which tv capture card I was going to get and decided on the all in wonder radeon 7500. I'm glad I did.

The installation was smooth. Although it took a while to figure out how to set up to get audio. I have 4 surround sound speakers and an amplifier. When viewing TV, I finally did get sound, but it wasn't capturing the audio when I recorded. Just remember that the to plug the adapter into the "line out" connection to the sound card. Make sure that the "installation wizard" reflects that it is capturing to "line out" also.

This card comes with everything. All the cables for S-video, composite video, and audio cables. But the best thing it comes with is the radio frequency remote control. This baby does everything your universal remote can do. And since it's radio frequency and not infra red, you can virtually use it anywhere in your house.

The package includes an interactive TV guide that you can program to when and what you want to record, crossword puzzles, and Video Studio 6 (which I have not used yet).

I have read other reviews on this product and most people will have difficulty with the installation. When I installed the card, I went to ATI.com to update the drivers. When I did, everything went to hell, so I did a system restore to get me back before I installed. I'll keep the drivers that came with the disk, thank you.

This All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500 just blows my mind!! I think its about the best $130 I ever spent. I recommend the All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500 because it gives so much for so little.

UPDATE: 1/16/04 Must reinstall every few months. Software is buggy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Decent Tuner¿ Horrible Software, Support, and Price
I purchased the ATI All In Wonder mid 1999. I've never been impressed by the value of ATI products, but I hoped it would be different... I was wrong. I used the software briefly on a Windows 98 computer, but when I gave it a video speed test for 2D and 3D, it rated only a fraction of the speed of the average Creative Lab's card (18 points compared to 95). I moved it to the only other computer that I could, which was a Windows NT 4.0 system. Unfortunately, they don't tell you in their brochure that the software for this card is highly crippled when using it on NT... the capture drivers don't work within other programs, most TV features don't work, etc. When I upgraded to Windows 2000 in February of 2000, ATI's web site promised to have driver's for Windows 2000 ready for March. In March I checked in and they promised them by April... April, they promised them in May, etc., etc. As of December 2000, they STILL didn't have the drivers ready. Finally, out of desperation, I tried using their 'special purpose drivers', which are test versions, and it brought down my whole system. These 'special' driver's cannot be uninstalled once they're installed. I've written to them several times, but they've never responded. I've even written to them using my company's name, hoping to get a response that way, but nothing!

I highly recommend NOT buying this, nor any other ATI product... not entirely because of the quality of the card, but for the extreme lack of quality within the company's support policies. My only regret was not being able to give this card a '0' star rating.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Board, but not a simple install
I have had good luck getting the AIW 128 AGP to run on a PII, 300mhz, with Win 95B - but the installation and setup was a bear. You MUST plan on downloading the most recent drivers, as the ones supplied are full of bugs. Rearranging the hardware interconnections on an existing system is also a bit tricky because it is poorly documented. And, unfortunately, it seems like the tech support people at ATI will go to any length to avoid answering questions directly. You will be referred to their website repeatedly, instead of being assisted. This might be ok, but the troubleshooting info on the website is very superficial and full of disclaimers (there are some other good sources of help, such as CNET, since the product is so popular). It would be a good idea to see if you can find a few other people who have this board up and running, so that you can get advice if you need it.

Back to the board... The TV tuner works great, allowing me to use the computer monitor for Playstation. Also, the graphics acceleration may not be state of the art, but my 3D games run smoothly and the board cleared up several 2D problems I was experiencing.

Regarding comments on the OS. My guess is that this is a WIN 95/98 product, pure and simple. ATI has gone on to other things and probably will have questionable support for NT, 2000, etc.

1-0 out of 5 stars these cards are crap
If you buy any card from ATI, this is what you can expect. 1) the card might, or might not work on the operating system of choice, particularly NT4, or NT2000 or might be severely limited. 2) almost non-existent customer service 3) you get to test their software and drivers since they don't seem to do that before releasing. 4) you get to hang out with lots of other angry users in the newsgroups. 5) tv-out is no better than most other scan converters 6) dvd playback is consistently better and less troublesome with other cards, like hollywood magic 6) you can get a better performing graphics card for much less than this card.

1-0 out of 5 stars no driver updates ,unless you pay for them
I thought this product was ok at first but to great at any one thing. But while upgrading os's some of the drivers where not up to date and would not work properly(some drivers for win98, all for win2k, most for win me).So i tried the web site for updates, but could only find them for the 2d/3d and not for the other features build into the card. But they do have a new install cd you can purchase with updated drivers for the video capture and other features other than 2d/3d.

I feel that if you buy the product the support should go with it, not at an extra charge. If ATI build the product they should provide the drivers required to use it .

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding product,, great services, but with some glitches
To start off I didn't buy this particular model, I bought the very first ATI All-In-Wonder-Pro that ATI first came out with, but looking at the technical data on this device, it's pretty much the same thing but with more memeory for Video and DVD support. I'll first list it's good things.

If you like doing interesting things with your computer like me, then this is defenitely one thing you should get. This card gives you the services of Digital VCR, Digital Recorder, TV Tuner, Video Out mode, and DVD support. With this one card that I have in my computer I'm able to hook up my VCR to the card, and since my VCR has two Video inputs itself, I have an N64 and another VCR plugged into the computer. All in all the card allows me to have two VCR's and the N64 plugged into the computer. And this is all in digital quality. You get amazing looking images from your videotapes or your games, seeing them like you've never seen them before. It still amazes me how great my VHS tapes look when filtered through this card. Then, I didn't even buy a monitor when I bought the computer tower. Instead, knowing that this allows for Video-Out mode onto a TV, I'm currently typying this on a 27-inch TV monitor. That definetely beats out the largest Computer monitor you can find on the market. Then, with the Digital VCR option I'm able to record anything I want from the VCR onto my computer, including the TV channels my VCR outputs. You may ask yourself, why would you do that when that takes up so much space and instead you can record it on tape. That's true, but with the VideoWave CD-ROM that came with card I can play around with the material that was recorded, editing it, putting in special effects, and eventually being able to output it back onto tape. As for the DVD support, mine didn't come with that, but I imagine that all it is is just software. You won't be able to play a DVD on your computer unless you have an actual DVD-ROM drive, then with this DVD support I imagine you'll be able to do such things as record the DVD and play around with hit.

Now for the setbacks. Like some reviewrs mentioned earlier, there are some glithches that came with the card. When I first installed it, the optioins to have Digital VCR, TV tuner, or Digital Recorder were never available. The icons were simply not on the screen. I contacted ATI, and again like the previous reviewrs mentioned, it takes a while for them to answer back. However when they did, they provided me with the information I needed to know to fix this, in simple idiot-proof steps. But still, it was a pain to try and figure out first why those options weren't ready upon installation. Secondly, that TV-Out option is great, watching the computer display on the TV is defenitely better than on any smaller computer monitor, but only if you don't mind having the images slightly blurred. It's not the cards fault, it's the TV's. Since most TV's do not have the high resolution as some computer monitors do, when you install this you may be asking yourself why some of the smaller letters look slightly blurred. Games look great though, there's no impact there, but it's only if you're reading something that's really small, like fine print. That becomes a problem. And thirdly, the Video memory. Mine boasted 7MB, this one says 16MB. If you're planning on doing some serious video editing, or setting your games on the highest possible standard, this just isn't enough. On video, when you're storing video onto memory or retooling it, because of the small MB size this takes a while. On games, the MB size is a joke. If you're running games like Half-Life on the highest settings, be prepared to see alot of ping problems. But then again this card wasn't meant for games specifically. Something like Voodoo, or more SYNdram memory is better for that. I'm using the larger video memory that my computer came with myself. Another memory problem is again not the cards fault. If you're planning on doing some video editing or recording, be prepared to have some serious hard drive space for that. Great looking recorded images take up a lot of space, but an alternative is that if you don't mind the Digital Recorder comes with several modes of compression, easing the memory it eats.

So overall, I gave this four stars for its outstanding services that it provides, minus the one star for some of it's glitches. I highly recommend purchasing this as soon as possible if you want to do incredible things with your computer. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars love this card to pieces
i LOVE this video card; i had some problems wiht installing the drivers, but then 99% of the time you HAVE to get new drivers online anyway; everything is easy to use and picture quality is great. Although geforce4 ti is probably better for gaming, this radeon ran quite well when i used it for neverwinter nights; it was ok for CS, but i love what multimedia activities i could do! only disappointment is i couldnt rip copyrighted vhs and dvds.hehe but that's another story. This card isnt perfect, but it beats all other tv cards hands down. I tried the pinnacle pctv before this and that sorry excuse for a peice of electronic equipment didn't even work, my computer said "device couldn't start." The free software is easy to use and includes an bundle of accessories, and a free CS! I definately recommend spending a little more $$ on this card rather than getting cheaper tv tuner; for those who want their sanity still after trying to install non ati tv tuners.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good? Bad? Bugs?
I have seen many reviews on this card, i have found that the 8500DV card and drivers are very unstable. when the tv is playing it will freeze the picture or go dark and the sound keeps playing, must reboot as it freezed whole computer except sound continues to play. problem with IE and using the transparecy feature - or even rezizing the tv/video frame causes instability. I am using winxp pro w/ srv pk 1 and all updates installed - it is an ok card if you only use it for video display only. Also, card freezes system while playing tiger woods 2003 - sound continues to play but system is locked up. must reboot - i haven't tried other games yet as i am fearful of locking up. why doesn't ATI offer trade in trade up cards for problem issues??? that is an excellent way to keep their customer base satisfied and bugs to a min.

Overall, the card gets a 3 of 5 but a 1 of 5 when it comes to price vs. performance.

Good luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great deal...
I was surprised to read a lot of the bad reviews (after I bought the card)! I had absolutely NO problems installing this card on a W2K box w/ SP4. I've converted almost all of my (deathly-boring-home) VHS tapes to DV, edited them, and burned DVD's with only a few "reboots" and those were mostly Explorer related (right-clicking on 3+ Gb files too quickly w/ preview on can make Windows a bit unhappy!). The TV also worked great with no problems. The drivers that came packed with the card worked fine, but I quickly upgraded them anyway (out of habit) from the ATI site. I'm not sure why my install went so smooth compared to others - my machine is a dual-850Mhz HP Kayak w/ 512Mb RDRAM and it's usually pretty picky about what I install.

1-0 out of 5 stars no longer supported.
Setup absolutely sucks no install help.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great card but difficult to setup
As the other reviews noted, there are problems with installing this card, even though I got it working successfully in the end. Although it isn't my top pick for a graphics card, I have enjoyed being able to hook it up to my VCR and print my digital videos to VHS (yes, this is possible, although it is a bit tricky to setup.)

I withhold one star on this card for having lack of customer support and being hard to setup. If the user manual would have been more comprehensive, and if the ATI website would have had more help on the subject of installing this card, the whole nasty ordeal of card setup (that almost all night) might have been spared. ... Amazon.com Review

There are three basic reasons to buy a TV tuner card: to watch television on your computer, to input data via a camcorder or VCR into your computer, and for video-editing purposes. When it comes to performing all three duties, the ATI-TV Wonder is the Cadillac of TV tuner cards.

Installing the TV Wonder and getting it to work is simple enough. After connecting cable TV to it, we were watching TV on our PC in a matter of minutes. By far, this is the TV Wonder's most attractive feature. There's nothing like a Golden State Warriors game conflicting with "Martha Stewart Living" to cause serious angst among family members.

But the TV Wonder is also useful for maximizing your TV-watching efficiency. With its ability to monitor a show's dialogue, the TV Wonder's accompanying software can signal you when shows are on that include specified words. If, for example, you program the software to search for the words "love, men, sex, or Dexatrim," it will alert you that Ally McBeal is on.

But the TV Wonder is more than just a tool to aid your TV-watching fetish. ATI claims that making and editing your own videos on your computer should be easy with the TV Wonder. But while it is possible to get your videos on to your computer with the TV Wonder, editing videos is anything but easy. If video editing is why you're looking to buy the ATI-TV Wonder, expect a pretty steep learning curve.

If you're looking for a solution that will enable you to watch TV on your computer, the TV Wonder can't be beat. And for less than a $100, it's a great gift item. However, if you're interested in creating and editing your own videos, the TV Wonder can help you get started, but don't expect to make Sundance-quality films any time soon. --Julian Strate
